“Hello there! I’m actually just visiting, and if you wouldn’t mind, could I have a tour of the major attractions in the city?” He invites me to follow him, and begins to discuss the history of the city. As I follow closely behind him, I constantly check to make sure he is occupied, filling in the silence with small remarks, while simultaneously looking for the perfect opportunity to steal a coin or two from his pockets.
I despise his attire, as I can tell he is well-off and not struggling for money, unlike me. The disdain fills me with anger, but I know I cannot reveal this secret to him. The feeling of nervousness also makes it’s presence known, even though I’ve accomplished this task successfully many times before. With my quick nimble fingers, I reach for his back pocket before seeing something out of the corner of my eye, a pretty trinket, a gleaming locket, lying out in the open, ready for anyone to take. I break away from the gentleman, looking for any diversion to distract the gaze of the shopkeeper. Suddenly, I spot next to the keeper, a large dog, laying down in the prime position for my goal. Slowly, I sneak over, tying a corner of the canopy that is drooping too low to the animal’s tail. Now, all I need is something to cause the dog to go mad.
My eyes scan my surroundings, but there’s nothing to suit my needs. I grow desperate as my time to steal the locket dwindles. As the tension mounts in my muscles, I decide to simply improvise my attack. With a quick jerk, I use my sharp nails to pinch the dog as hard as I can. Before I know it, the dog is off and running, carrying along the canopy with it. The shopkeeper is immediately covered as the cloth comes crashing down. He immediately scurries out, before chasing the dog, leaving his wares wide open. I reach for the locket, and feeling it within my palm, shove it deep into my pouch, before making off, leaving the bazaar behind.
