    How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming is acting on or recalling knowledge you have gained OOCly which your character has not gained ICly. An example would be reading in someone's character bio that their character is an extreme arachnophobe and summoning a spider when their characters first meet to purposefully frighten the other character.
    How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming is giving one's character unfair and unrealistic advantages which often result in taking control of other's characters. For example, while in a fight, player 1 emotes, "Johnny Boy taps Larry on his shoulder and when Larry turns around Johnny incinerates him with his laser vision!" This is powergaming because player 1 doesn't give the other player a chance to counter and also emotes for their character. It's also powergaming because laser vision is an over-powered ability in this scenario.
