Duncan was born into a typical Highlander family in the Norlands. His parents were, however, killed in a raid, before he was 5. He was taken in by the local clan, and he was then trained by the Clan's champion. He became one of the fiercest warriors of his Jarldom and many of his peers marvelled and praised him. The sheer amount of praise caused him to become self-obsessive. This became so consuming he once rushed into battle during the Tenth Norlandic War to save his friend, convinced he was able to fight every enemy successfully. This action caused the clan to lose because he exposed a weakness in their defence. He was promptly banished for his vain actions, but thought little of it as he was still self-obsessed.
He ended up meeting a band of 5 fighters, whom he bested in combatted and then befriended. They live a nomadic lifestyle in which they do many violent tasks for what they need to live off. They occasionally resort to theft or small raids if they must. Among their acheivments they have managed to impress many Norlanders with their skills in battle after being sent on a skirmish mission during the Bloodying of the Bridge.
Duncan turns and looks at the man in front of him.
He eyes him up and down disapprovingly
He snidely states "Depends on what you can offer me"
He then pulls out his Great axe to show himself off as a fighter
