Ragnar was born in the city of Helena His father was a highlander, who worked as a soldier in the military. At the time of the War of Two Emperors, Ragnar's grandfather was a soldier in the army of Norland under the command of King Alvar I. It was after the end of the war and the death of his grandfather on the battlefield, that his father decided to leave his hometown of Nordengrad behind and settle in the city of Providence, and get enlisted in the army of the Empire later on. And that's where he met Ragnar's mother, she was a heartlander and worked in a local tavern.
Ragnar's parents gave their all to provide the best possible education they could afford for Ragnar. For much of his time in school, Ragnar was the only highlander in his class, the rest were all heartlanders. While some of his classmates were afraid of interacting with him because of his big stature, many students, especially the ones from the nobility, made fun of him and bullied him. As such, Ragnar never really got the chance to make true friends, which made him more socially awkward with time.
Ragnar's mother taught him to be modest and considerate with others, which is why, he never really used his strength to harm his classmates who bullied him. However, that changed one day, when one of those bullies, a kid younger than him, disrespected and made fun of Ragnar's parents. This made him so angry that he lost his control and punched that kid hard on his jaw. He only realized later that he punched him so hard that the kid's jawbone shattered. After he calmed himself down, he just couldn't forgive himself for hitting that kid. So he went to that kid's house the next day to apologize to him. That kid's father was absolutely furious, and being a noble, he had the privilege to punish a lowly commoner for hitting his child. He told the guards to hold Ragnar tight. He then brought out a sharp dagger and forcefully shoved it into Ragnar's left eye. Ragnar screamed in pain but there was no one to listen to him. The guards then threw Ragnar out of the house. His left eye became blind and it left a scar that will always remind him of the time he lost his control and burned in rage. Despite the overwhelming pain, Ragnar accepted his punishment and didn't seek revenge on that kid or his father, for he believed that he deserved this punishment.
Ragnar's father trained him in the art of basic combat from his early childhood, and wanted him to one day become a soldier and protect the people around him. Ragnar admired his father for his loyalty to the Empire and dedication to protect the people around him at all cost. However, Ragnar himself wasn't much interested in war and bloodshed. Instead, he was more keen on politics and diplomacy, and he also loved the wonderful architecture of Helena and hoped to one day become an architect himself.
Ragnar's father died when he was 18 years old, due to a disease that inflicted him on the battlefield. And his mother died a year later, due to old age. Since Ragnar had no friends and family left in Helena, he decided to leave this city behind and move on to settle somewhere else, somewhere he would find more people of his origin, people who wouldn't make fun of him and discriminate him, people whom he can call friends and family.

"Oh, ...uh..., hello there. ...Nice to meet you.... Pretty wonderful city you got here" says Ragnar as he moves his head around looking and admiring the beauty of the city. "I traveled here seeking ... adventure..., and I hope to make some friends along the way", he then starts walking around with the gentleman, looking at all the exotic wares in the shops, while getting pushed around a bit by the crowd, "Wow..., I have never seen so many people in one place", he then turns towards the gentleman and asks, "Is this place always so crowed?"
