You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

"If I'm gonna tell you my whole story, I'll need a drink, preferably ale". I sit down on the chair, as if I owned the place. "I was born in the Hold of Khron'Hundmar, my Father was apart of the guard of the city, he was working as your average guard but I was told by my Mother that he was one the best in the place. Me, my Father and my Mother were very happy, living at peace in the Hold until he left when i was still a boy. He always used to talk about magic and things like that and how he wanted to experience what it felt like and what power would come with it. My Mother tells me that he left to go find all this and that he would return. He never did. With just me and my Mother left, we struggled. We struggled with money as my Father used to make most of it, and with this struggle, came the struggle of food, housing and so on. One day my Mother, she disappeared, she left in the mornings like usual but never came back, I think I was around 14, 15 at this time. I waited for days on end for her return, until the food ran out. Even after the food had vanished from it's resting place I stayed at our house just incase she came back, she never did, not when I was there anyway. I decided that I had to assume the worst had happened, and that she had died or something, maybe murdered or kidnapped. I left the house with nothing but the clothes I was wearing and tried to find somewhere to stay. I went to a blacksmith that I had heard about, it was an older looking fellow, hands dirty and his hair colour matched them. I offered to him, if he lets me stay at that blacksmith, I would work for him, help him out around the shop. After a mighty long discussion and all too much convincing, he agreed. I stayed there for a few years. Over them years I had a lot of time to think about what had happened with my Father and Mother, and I decided I would get to the bottom of both of there disappearances, that was my goal in life from now on. Every day after the shop closed, I took one the axes and practiced with it, just swinging it around for hours on end. Once I was about 20-21, I had gained quite a bit of muscle since I was working in a blacksmith, carrying fairly heavy things along with the axe training, I decided to start progressing towards my goal and joined the town guard. I used the 15 years in the towns guard to try learn as much as I could about the world, from asking the higher ups when I got the chance, to reading too many books, but even after all of this I saw nothing and didn't hear anything about magic. After the 15 long years, my belief in what my Father always talked about was hanging by a thread, so I quit the town guard and set off on the road, not knowing where to go, what direction or even who to ask. I just started walking, and now here I am."

"Oh, I just, uh…" you stutter, tensing up. You eye the crone, then back outside the tent. For a moment, the air thickens with anticipation, until…
