How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming happens when a player uses information they learned out of character, to impact their character. For example, if a player learns about a possible attack and uses that information in character to aid in the attack, that is metagaming.

How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming happens when a character is overpowered in roleplay; if the character acts in exaggerated ways, breaking rules and limits of lore. For example, if a character is suddenly given the powers of a god.
