    How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming in my own words is when a character does or has something unrealistically unfair or stupid.
    How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Staying inside the limits of your character, a rock can't fly.

I would see how the others who came were responding and give out the most average response, if there were no others I would get suspicious, but respond with"I'm just passing bye, I have no need for wealth or glory. The views of the world and the people in it is all I will ever need."  I would then proceed to forcing a smile and speed walking past the gentleman.
