Born in the cold north to a proud group of people, he grew up with a close group of friends and once they were old enough they set off to find glory. Slowly their group dwindled in numbers as some people went their separate ways and others died, eventually it was just him and his friend. One day they broke into a bank/ dungeon/ cave and stole a valuable jewel. While escaping on their horses his friends horse was injured and couldn't continue, as their pursuers got closer he had to chose, go back for his friend and risk getting caught, or leave him to die, chose the latter. As far as he knows his friend is dead and he hates himself for it, knowing his friend would've gone back had they switched places. Now he travels alone most of the time, fighting for money or stealing from strangers.

" Money," I'd say, lots and lots of money." If he offered no further conversation I'd walk past him to the jailhouse to find any wanted posters, I'd find the one with the highest reward and take a mental image of the persons face. I'd walk around the city for a bit before stopping and asking where the sketchiest bar in town is. I'd wait until dark before heading there buying a couple of drinks and watching the door. The next day, there would be one less wanted poster.
