Victor would tell the man “no” and walk off. If the man were to persist he would be threatened with the shimmer of a blade. If he continued, the man would be lying dead in the hull of one of the boats with a slit across the front of his neck and no money in the pouch at his waste. Meanwhile Victor would already be at his planned destination counting his earnings and wiping his blade, muttering to himself; “I told him to leave” and darkly chuckling, remembering the man’s sobs and begging as he dragged him towards the port.
