You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
Erras looks back at the old hag with trepidation, pauses in her step for a moment, and steels herself to respond. Taking a deep breath as she lets out, "You understand the repercussions of this discussion?"

How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Honestly, I don't know how to do most if not all of the things considered as powergaming, so it makes it easy, plus I think I would just genuinely feel bad if it was unfair to someone else.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Metagaming disrupts fair roleplay because it only exists outside the constructs of the "world" that you are playing in. It is the equivalent of talking to a time traveler in real life and making decisions or comments based upon that. If someone from the future told me a winning lottery ticket number that creates a playout of events that wouldn't naturally happen. It would be the same thing in game. If someone told me where a chest with stuff is outside of the game, and I could use that in the game without finding that out by inference or in character that disrupts the natural events of a game.
