The sun burned overhead as a small, out-of-place dark elf stumbled down the gangplank onto the dirt road. Her eyes searched the scene before her, a hand raised to shield light eyes unaccustomed to the brightness of the midday sun after so long at sea. She passed through the sprawling city gates by the docks, presenting her papers and being ushered into the city proper. Ready with her list of purchases to make, she was stopped by a foot in her path. The foot belonged to a man, she soon found, asking about her aspirations.
The question gave her a moment of pause, not because she was unsure of why she was there, but because it spoke to a larger question. One she was entirely unprepared to answer as of now. “Nothing of the sort, sir. I’m merely here to purchase some ingredients for my employer. Now, if you’ll excuse me...” She edged around him, hurrying off into the market.
