INTRODUCTION

The following is a list of all currently-available courses based on the current roster of teachers and what they can teach. This list is open to change at any given point in time. As a note, any student may start a club so long as they have the headmaster’s permission and at least one teacher to oversee it.

The study of the skies, the various realms, and astrological beings.

Different creatures, where they live, and techniques on how to flee, fight, and befriend them.

Herbology

The study of herbs, their various uses/dangers, where to find them, and how to harvest them. 

Religious and Cultural Studies

Prerequisites: None

The study of the many distinct cultures and beliefs across Arcas.

Theory of Artificary

Prerequisites: None

Learn about golemancy and atronach forging and how they work. 

Theory of Magic

Prerequisites: None

Understanding the voidal planes and their history, properties, effects, and applications.

Theory of History

Prerequisites: None

Learning about the history of different magics and how they came to be. 

Theory of the Dark Arts

Prerequisites: None

In Theory of the Dark Arts, students will be learning what differentiates Dark Magics from other magics, how they function, the dangers of engaging in such practices, and common methods used to determine whether someone you know is affiliated with Dark Magic allegiances to avoid them.

World History

Prerequisites: None

Important events, races, and supernatural occurrences in Arcas. 

INTERMEDIATE

Defense Against the Dark Arts 

Prerequisites: Theory of Magic OR Theory of the Dark Arts

In Defense Against The Dark Arts, students will go over the various types and species of Dark Mages and Creatures, common weaknesses found within them, how to exploit such weaknesses, how to determine whether it would be smarter to run from a Dark Mage or Creature or when fighting is the best course of action to take, and what a student should do in the event they become negatively affected by a Dark Mage or Creature, such as through being cursed.

Materials and Magic

Prerequisites: Theory of Magic

A study of the material world and its varied interactions with magic, and vice versa- A study of flesh and stone to better understand ones surroundings.

Medicine

Prerequisites: Herbology

Learn the different uses of herbs and other medical tools in surgery, emergencies, transportation of patients, etc., as well as what different injuries can occur and how to treat them. 

Theory of Evocation 

Prerequisites: Theory of Magic

Learn the further basics of evocation, how they work, and further study of the void. 

Theory of Other 

Prerequisites: Theory of Magic

Understanding magics that are not encompassed by the Void.

ADVANCED

Air Evocation

Prerequisites: Theory of Magic, Theory of Evocation

Learn the principalities and physical application of wind, feeling & learning to be confident in your air evocation cast, and the many ways you may evoke and cast your wind. 

Arcanism

Prerequisites: Theory of Magic, Theory of Evocation

Understand how to conjure and manipulate the arcane in different ways.

Conjuration

Prerequisites: Theory of Magic, Theory of Evocation

Studying and learning how to conjure beings from the void.

Divination

Prerequisites: Astronomy, Theory of Magic, Theory of Other

Understanding the basic practices of Divination, including but not limited to: Tarot Card Reading, Tasseomancy, Precognition. Furthermore, students will learn about Omens, Blessings, Warnings, Dream Audiences, Aura reading, Inner Eye Awakening, and Mental Exhaustions. 

Earth Evocation

Prerequisites: Theory of Magic, Theory of Evocation

Fire Evocation

Prerequisites: Theory of Magic, Theory of Evocation

Study the practice of fire evocation and how to utilize voidal fire. 

Illusion 

Prerequisites: Theory of Magic, Theory of Other

Telekinesis

Prerequisites: Theory of Magic, Theory of Other

Transfiguration 

Prerequisites: Theory of Magic, Theory of Other

Students in transfiguration will learn how to alter the material world around them, create enchantments and even how to destroy other spells.

Voidal Translocation

Prerequisites: Theory of Magic, Theory of Other

Students in translocation will learn how to manipulate the void in order to create their own pocket space within it.

Water Evocation

Prerequisites: Theory of Magic, Theory of Evocation

Water Evocation is the act of drawing forth water of all types of forms from the Voidal Realm into the Material Realm.

CLUBS

Dueling 

Requirements: Ability to use some sort of magic

Understanding how to defend yourself against other magics, command and control whatever situation you're in, work both alone and with others, and succeed with or without magic. 

Theatre

Requirements: None

Write, act in, direct, or help with players put on in our very own stage.

INTRODUCTION

The Coalition of Arcane Knowledge has a vast amount of jobs available to those seeking to earn some extra Mina. If you have an idea for an additional on-campus job, please send a bird to the Headmaster, and to apply for a job, refer to the applications linked below. Pay is given every elven week to those who seek out the Headmaster. If you are accepted into a position you’ve applied for, you will receive a bird within a few elven days.

Teachers at the Coalition may teach a variety of subjects, including courses such as Theory of Magic, Creatures, Draconic Studies, Cooking I and II, or even advanced courses such as Fire Evocation, Illusion, Transfiguration, and much more ((please note that advanced courses require accepted TA’s to teach, though basic/intermediate courses do not)). Teachers also get free tuition so long as they remain a teacher during their time as a student. Pay for a teacher varies depending on how many courses they teach, how many students they have, and the types of courses they teach.

Librarians are in charge of managing the donation of books, sorting them into sections, genres, and shelves, and ensuring the protection of all knowledge within the Coalition. They also may scribe books that are unable to be copied.

Guards are those who handle the gates and general security of the Coalition. If assistance is needed, guards are expected to defend and protect students and faculty. 

Newspaper Editor

There are a handful of positions available in terms of helping with the newspaper, such as bringing gossip to the table, writing articles, editing, and more. Each position pays slightly different, though the accumulative job of all newspaper editors is to send out a weekly newspaper for the Coalition and its going-on’s.

What is a Genus?

Genuses are groups of students that compete in tournaments and various events. There are three: Purus, Avis, and Malis, which each stand for different things. 
 

What is the Genus Cup?

The Genus Cup is the competition between the different Genuses. Students can earn points for their Genus by participating in tournaments, answering questions in class, helping teachers, and other methods. It closes about every two Elven months and restarts again. The winning Genus gets a party and discounted tuition for intermediate/advanced courses if they are to enroll in the next term. 

How many points does my Genus have?

Is there a tuition?

Yes, but it's a one-time fee for all basic courses and a one-time fee for all intermediate/advanced courses. Check the general informational guidebook for more info. 
 

How do I pay tuition?

Head to the hole just inside of the gates that lead to the Coalition with the sign labelled "TUITION" in front and purchase one tuition slip. Place it in a barrel of your choosing, lock the barrel, then send a bird to Emeline with the barrel number you chose.
 

When is tuition due?

You will not be put into your classes until you’ve paid tuition, so if you haven’t done both of those things in a semi-timely manner and haven’t informed the Headmaster that you require assistance getting started, you will be expelled. 

Where is the school located?

If you are facing Sutica, head left and go past the farms til you find the little island with a wall surrounding it. It's just past that island. You'll see a stone bridge leading to an island containing a large building with a greenhouse in front.
 

How do I change one of my courses?

Speak to the Student Coordinator ((Amelica#8025)). 

Where do I get my uniform?

The Heads of Genus are in charge of ensuring you have your uniform ((check #infromation under your Genus’ category in the discord)). 

How do I get citizen door perms / region perms?

Request them if you have been sorted and accepted ((please read #perm-request)).

2k Mina Reward

[!] Two sketches of an armoured male are etched onto the quickly-scrawled poster.

Lazarus La Croix has gone missing. Last seen in the Coalition, any information about his whereabouts is helpful. If you’ve seen him, please contact Emeline via a bird. He is wanted returned to Emeline alive, either restrained or incapacitated. Either works. 

He is seen oftentimes wearing either turquoise armour (second sketch) that makes him look like an awkward male fish creature or black armour that resembles that of a dark mage (first sketch). He’s creepy-looking and will not be seen without some sort of mask. 

Whomever returns him to Emeline (send a bird upon capture to receive the drop-off location) will receive 2k Minas as compensation. 

INTRODUCTION

At the Coalition of Arcane Knowledge, students are sorted into Genuses based on their aura colour. In simple terms, one’s aura is the smoke of their mana, if mana is to be compared to the fire, and mana is the energy one uses to cast magic. 

Auras come in a vast range of colours, though they are typically a singular colour. This colour can be anything from red to blue to yellow to white, though it cannot be black unless one’s soul has been corrupted (ex. dark magic) or rainbow. Auras can be a loose representation of one’s base character, though by no means is it a fantastic judge. Individuals’ auras can be a colour that has nothing to do with their personality, or it can be something that aligns loosely with it. However, once one’s aura has formed and adopted a colour, that colour remains stagnant unless a major event occurs in that person’s life, though it is rare for that to occur. 

In order to sort students into their Genuses, students should reach out to the Headmaster, as an aura colour only forms when a student is performing magic, so unless a student is connected, an estimate will be made based off of the provided information by the student and they will be placed in a Genus according to their estimate. Later on, if they eventually do connect and are able to perform magic and form an aura, their Genus will be adjusted as necessary. 

AURA COLOURS

While it is true that aura colours are a very poor gauge of personality, they can be used as a loose and not-perfectly-accurate judge of base character. By studying the connections between colours and personalities, the following interpretation of colours’ connections has been formed. Keep in mind that there are countless other interpretations that are different from the following one, though for the purposes of the Coalition, this one is to be used. 

• White: innocence, purity, order
• Pink: gentle, kind, caring
• Red: passionate, brave, wrathful
• Orange: creative
• Yellow: cheerful, easily distracted, craves attention
• Green: nature, envious, greedy
• Light Blue: Calm, serene, introverted
• Blue: logical, heartless, cold, calm
• Purple: mysterious, ambitious, authoritative
• Black: malicious, corrupt, evil, chaotic

This brief guide was created with the purpose of assisting new students in deciding on their Genus and nothing else. 

 

10^th of Amber Cold, 1780

The Avis common room bustled with activity. Students chattered among themselves, excited for the beginning of the term. Rha’kir, the Head of Avis, led the students in a welcoming activity as they introduced themselves to one another. 

The newest Avis student, Luna, slowly makes her way into the school, awkwardly looking around at everyone. 

“This is our newest member, Luna. She’s a late enrollment,” Rha’kir introduces the girl to the group. Luna offers a slight nod in greeting. 

”Hi, I’m Alith!” one of the others says. 

”Hi, Alith. I’m Luna.” The girl’s face turns bright red. “But... y-you already knew that. Sorry.” The awkward girl shifts nervously in place as those around her begin discussing the various drama, including Malis being unable to enter their own dorms for unknown reasons. Overwhelmed, she freezes, until a student by the name of Osiris approaches. 

“Hi. I’m Osiris. Would you like some tea?”

“S-Sure.”

“What kind would you like?”

“My mother used to make l-lemon tea.” Osiris leads her to sit at their table, brewing the new girl some lemon tea like her mother used to make. The girl looks down at the tea, smiling slightly at her newfound friendship. She blows on it, takes a sip, then nods to those around her, mumbling, “I need to pee.” And so she goes to pee.

She would never return. 

A scream is heard from downstairs. The Avis students rush to the bathroom. There, they see Luna, covered in blood. Blood seeps from the stab wounds in her right side and cakes the Avis logo on her back. It blankets the mirror and floor. Splatters are visible all throughout the room. It is a horrific scene. Luna’s eyes barely shift up to face the incoming rush of students as Osiris kneels beside her, the teacup she was previously given thrown across the floor. She stares blankly ahead, her heart barely thumping in her chest. 

Bum bum. 

”I-...”

Bum.. bum. 

”P-Pl...-ea...se...”

Hours later, the students gather together to say goodbye to the young Avis, laying candles in a field before burying her beneath a tree. There, her body lays beside the teacup, forever a reminder of the unidentified murderer that has been set loose in the Coalition.

In order to encourage financially-challenged students to still attend the Coalition of Arcane Knowledge, we offer a large range of scholarships. This list is subject to change at any time. You may apply for scholarships before you’ve paid for the basic OR advanced courses, so even if you’ve already paid your basic tuition, you may till apply for scholarships that can go towards your advanced tuition. If you receive the scholarship, you will be informed before your tuition payment is due.

~ Rulebook ~

INTRODUCTION

In order to prevent mass chaos, there are some rules at the Coalition. If you fail to comply with these rules, you may be expelled from the school or banished from the campus. If you catch anyone breaking the rules, contact a guard, council member, or the headmaster immediately. 

RULES

1. Unregistered students or teachers may not enter the campus with weapons of any kind. Once registered, it is permitted, though the use of said weapons is strictly prohibited unless in self-defense. 

   1. Self-defense, the case of the Coalition, is limited to incapacitating an individual to prevent yourself from being physically harmed. 

   2. Unregistered individuals may not enter the campus unless approved by a staff member (guard, teacher, etc.). Students may not let them in. They must go through the gate.

2. Intentional physical harm is absolutely prohibited unless it is for the use of education and allowed by a registered teacher. 

3. Discrimination against registered students, teachers, or other staff due to location of origin, race, residency, occupation, etc. is prohibited. 

   1. Disgruntlement between Genuses is allowed and encouraged so long as it is not taken too far. 

4. Instructions given by a council member or the headmaster are to be followed and adhered to, no matter the instruction. Council members have the final say, which can only be overruled by the headmaster. 

   1. Complaints about decisions, rulings, and/or instructions given by council members are to be taken up with the headmaster. 

   2. This applies to being asked to leave, though this includes guards in this specific instance. If a council member, guard, or the headmaster asks you to leave, you are required to leave the premise. If you do not comply in a timely manner, you are breaking the rules of the Coalition. 

5. You may not ride a donkey between the hours of 15:00 and 18:00.

6. Curfew is between 20:00 and 6:00. You may not wander the halls during this time unless you are accompanied by a staff member. You must remain in your Genus’ common rooms or dorm rooms. 

7. Students must be at least 14 years of age to sign up for basic and intermediate courses. Advanced students must be at least 16 years of age. 

8. Students under the age of 25 are not permitted to drink alcohol above the alcoholic percentage 5% between the hours of 7:00 and 6:00. 

   1. As such, they may only drink alcohol above the alcoholic percentage of 5% between the hours of 6:00 and 7:00. 

9. Students may not use their citizen door keys to let anyone but themselves inside of the Coalition. 

   1. If students require citizen door keys, they may as the Headmaster. 

   2. If a student lets in someone other than themselves, their keys will be permanently removed and potentially expelled. 

10. If someone is brought into the school not by an official guard ((denoted by their Guard tag in the discord)) and if they don’t have citizen door keys, they are considered illegally trespassing. 

~ Informational Guidebook ~

INTRODUCTION

The Coalition of Arcane Knowledge is a school for the arcane arts. Learn various arts, such as evocations, alchemy, theory of magic, herbology, and more. Become part of a Genus and participate in tournaments, competitions, and Genus events. Perform in plays or join a club. This guidebook will walk you through the various aspects of the Coalition, how it works, and where to join. 

HOW TO ENROLL

LOCATION

The school is located on an island near Sutica. While facing the front gates of Sutica from the road, turn left. Head past the farms to the very end, then turn right. Past the garden island is the island the school stands on, connected via a stone bridge. 

Keep in mind that the school is a war-free zone. This means that the Coalition guards will not arrest you if you are a criminal in Sutica so long as you do not venture inside of Sutica’s walls. The school is open to all, no matter race, residency, origin, sex, etc. 

COURSE TYPES

There are three different types of courses at the Coalition of Arcane Knowledge: basic, intermediate, and advanced. Advanced courses are those that actively teach the different magics such as Air Evocation, Divination, and Illusion. To reach the advanced courses, though, students must complete the prerequisite basic course, which varies depending on which advanced they’d like to take. After completing and passing the required basic, students may apply for the advanced they’re interested in. Teachers of these advanced courses are not required to take any student; they handpick their students from the pool of those available. While students are waiting to get picked, they are placed in an intermediate, which is a course more specific to what they’d like to learn. For example, if a student wished to learn Fire Evocation, they must first take the basic Theory of Magic, then they are placed in the intermediate Theory of Evocation until they are picked for Fire Evocation.

COURSE STRUCTURE

Each course offered at the Coalition of Arcane Knowledge has a lesson plan that it follows, depending on how the teacher decides to structure their class. However, the following information is true for all courses:

Homework

Homework is given as an alternative to attending class if a student cannot make a certain class. You may complete homework instead of going to class and still receive credit for that class day, though students must attend at least 50% of classes in-person to pass the course. Students may also complete homework in addition to attending class in-person for extra practice and credit. Homework must align with a course textbook, and since it is offered as an alternative to attending class, textbook pages must be referenced to provide a source for where students may obtain the necessary info to complete their homework. 

Quizzes and Exams

Exams are given to students once they receive credit for every single class and have attended at least 50% in-person, no matter where their classmates are in the course. This way, a student may join in the middle of a “semester” at any point in time and continue as normal. For example, if I join during class 1, I do classes 1-15, take the exam, and move on. But I can also join during class 9, take classes 9-15 then 1-8, take the exam, and move on. Exams must be held within school grounds. The student taking the exam must be supervised by a teacher, council member, or the headmaster. While quizzes are taken during class, exams are not, due to students being able to take them at any point during the semester. Lastly, if a student misses a quiz, they must complete it on their own time. They do not have to be supervised nor on school grounds to take a make-up quiz. 

TUITION AND SCHOLARSHIPS

Although the school does charge tuition, there are only two fees, each of which are one-time. To take basics, students must pay a tuition of 500 Minas, and to take advanced, they must pay 1,000. If a student only wishes to take basics, they only have to pay for basic courses. However, since advanced courses require basics to be completed, to take advanced courses, students must pay for both.

GENUSES

Within the Coalition of Arcane Knowledge, there are three different Genuses that the students are divided into based on their aura colour. In the enrollment application, an estimate of a student’s aura colour is determined along with the Genus that they will fall into, each of which value and represent different things.
