I The Leadership of the Sacred Grove

1.1 The Nanotzin is akin to a mayor of sorts. They are the leader of the grove. They are capable of vetoing decisions made by Xometls or inhabitants. This can include building illegal buildings or taking illegal action.

1.2 Under the Nanotzin, there are the Xometls. These are much like elders. They hold the second most power in the grove. When looking for permission when the Nanotzin is not around, an elder will be second-in-charge.

1.3 When no Xometl or Nanotzin is present and an immediate threat is taking place such as verbal offenses, inhabitants are allowed to decide what their following actions are. However, Inhabitants are not allowed to execute  individuals for this offense. This can solely be done with Xometl or Nanotzin permission. However, if there is a case of physical attacks, inhabitants can main or kill in self-defense.

1.4 The closest figures of authority when no Xometl is present are the  Priests and Head of Workers. Though they are not allowed to give permission for maiming or executing either.

II   The Rights of the Inhabitants

2.1 All Kharajyr and certain non-kha who are permitted are allowed a house and protection within the Mitzuul Grove.

2.2 All Inhabitants have a right to a trial if they are accused of crimes. 

2.3 If an inhabitant of the Grove is found to be executing crimes on foreign borders, they shall be evicted and handed over to the according authorities.

2.4 Inhabitants are not to be punished for self-defense within borders. If it cannot be proven harm was done to another individual in self-defense, it shall be considered assault and be trialed.

2.5 No inhabitant should have to experience the feeling of famine. Enjoy the grove’s riches to its fullest; there is food enough for everyone to share.

2.7 No inhabitant should experience the event of pestilence. There are sanitary facilities for all to use for their own personal hygiene.

2.8 No Inhabitant should experience the event of a lonely death. A funeral of equal value shall be held for every passing inhabitant sponsored by the Grove’s leadership.

2.9 Be respectful towards the Dwed of Urguan, they and their Grand King gifted the land so the Mitzuul Grove could come to existence.

III.  The rights of Visitors

3.1 The saying: “Treat others how you want to be treated” is taken very seriously within the Mitzuul Grove. You are treated hospitably, we expect you to remain respectful.

3.2 If anything happens to a visitor within the Mitzuul Grove, it shall be investigated and fair punishment will be dealt.

3.3 Visitors are allowed access to the gate to the Mitzuul Territory if they stay within the Inn for a period of time.

3.4 Racial slurs are seen as the most insulting verbal offense and one can be banished for it from the Grove. A banishment can be revoked by the Nanotzin, or by taking part in a trial of Forgiveness

3.5 Verbal slurs towards Metztli are seen as one of the most insulting verbal offenses and one can be banished for it from the Grove. A banishment can be revoked by the Nanotzin, or by taking part in a trial of Forgiveness.

3.6 Any form of assault or battery on inhabitants shall be punished accordingly. 

3.7 We shall not stand, for whatever justification you may have, let you push our inhabitants around, brandish weaponry, or commit other crimes in our Grove.

IV.  Rules

4.1 Kharajyr and non-Kha are not allowed to have an intimate relationship with each other. This is seen as a felony, heresy and is heavily frowned upon. Punishment may lead to banishment or worse, depending on the judge’s verdict.

4.2 Unwanted advances (such as flirtations) to whether Kha, non-Kha, males, or females are not tolerated. If no consent is given, you have no right to continue advances. You shall be imprisoned and judged on severity of your actions, ranging from a fine to sacrifice. One’s body is for the individual they love, and is not deserving of a simple pleasure-grab for a creep.

4.3 Assault, battery, or any form of physical violence towards another individual will be punished by trial. 

4.4 Slander and defamation of character shall be punished accordingly, so no one’s public image shall be damaged due to jealousy.

4.5 Kharajyr inhabitants are not allowed to fully dye their fur an absurd color such as pink. Facepaint, on the other hand, is quite alright. You will be forcefully scrubbed down and fined for your absurdity.

4.6 Vandalizing of property, nature, or public areas shall be punished severely. You have no right to destroy what has been built by others.

4.7 Burglary and stealing property is disallowed. You shall be trailed and given proper punishment for an unfair gain of wealth. 

4.8 When suspected and found guilty of one or several counts of murder or manslaughter, you shall be trialed. You will be imprisoned and the most severe punishments can be handed out for this act. The most severe punishment being sacrifice.

4.9 For acts of treason, one will be publicly displayed and their fate will be left in the hands of those who they betrayed. The public may choose the punishment openly for the conspirator with final judgement being enacted by Grove Leadership.

4.10 If one is found to be threatening, either by verbal slurs or brandishing a weapon, they will be subdued and allowed to be immediately banished from the grove by any present inhabitants.

In case you are trialed and you are found guilty or not forgiven, you shall be escorted out of the Mitzuul Grove again. You will not be executed on the spot unless it is specified that execution is a possibility. Not showing up to a trial results in immediate arrest warrant for your name.

Health

public cleaning

Contrary to popular belief, Kharajyr value their physical and mental health greatly and have developed methods to keep them in optimal shape. While tribalistic and a little more primitive in their ways, the Kharajyr have always had a great advantage on their health. While other folks preferred to concentrate as much manpower as they could in one city, which allows the spread of diseases faster, Kharajyr understood the value of clean, open public spaces. The cities of others that were filled with slums, scurvy animals, rats, and large pools of filth were often a good cause for disease to spread. This prompted the Kha to take good care of their settlements, as well as their animals. So it’s not rare to see Kharajyr doing a communal effort by keeping their environment clean and their pets healthy.

The streets of  the Kharajyr empires and settlements were regularly swept clean of filth. The rivers, aqueducts, and public spaces were cleaned of anything that was unhealthy or could attract unhealthy creatures. All the filth were gathered and dumped onto compost piles outside of the respective settlements. With no rats, enough space, and especially cleanliness, Kharajyr in the past did not suffer that heavy under diseases. 

Sanitation

Keeping themselves clean was also of top priority. The Kharajyr empires that existed on Khalenwyr and Anthos were a supreme example. For the Kharajyr that could not afford a steam bath in their own house could make use of the several public bath houses scattered around the cities. The water in these public spaces were cleaned regularly. But long before many others invented it, the Kharajyr made a primitive version of soap. A type of lather was made of the ‘soap tree’ that grew inside the jungles where the empires were located. This was used for the cleaning of almost everything.

The Kha have developed from the simple lather. They are more likely to use bamboo milk as washing products for their skins. Gel from aloe vera and nectar from agave plants are also used for cleaning products. The gel is often smeared into bandages to keep the area around a treated wound clean. Though, the gel can also be used in actual soap blocks like the agave nectar.

The Kharajyr also invented a primitive type of luxury cleaning for their teeth: charcoal toothpaste. It was made from the charcoal ashes mixed with water, which caused it to foam a little. It’s still used today by Kharajyr for their dental hygiene, but it’s further developed and craftsmen often infuse flavors to their ‘toothpaste’. It has many names.

Sauna

Saunas, which are  similar to steam baths, are also publicly accessible. They’re not exactly believed to be helpful for cleaning someone physically but rather mentally. The Kharajyr believe that saunas are capable of clearing one’s mind with the steam. The steam will supposedly ‘attack’ the negativities in one’s mind once breathed in. The steam will then take the negative thoughts and feelings with it as it’s breathed out.

 Medicine

herbal treatments

Kharajyr doctors, although very good surgeons as well, often use herbal alternatives for illnesses. They’re more likely to attempt a herbal treatment first before anything else. Though, cases that need actual surgery are taken care of with the utmost care.

The jungle where the Kharajyr lived throughout the majority of their history was stocked with medicinal herbs. They used parts or the entire herb in their medicine. Everything was made from these herbs, ranging from simple salves to teas. Here are a few examples of used herbs:

The Sunflower (Chilamak): The sunflower’s seeds are cooked by a doctor with a little bit of bamboo milk in a pot. The crisp seeds can be eaten later but the oil-milk mix can be used for a salve that is used to treat fevers.

White Sapote (cochit): The leaves of the White Sapote tree are used to create a paste. They’re ground up and mixed with aloe vera gel and honey. The paste that comes out of this is eaten in spoonfuls to sedate a person and put them to sleep.

Avocados (Mochit): The pits of the avocado are roasted and ground up. They are then mixed with aloe vera gel. This salve is then applied to relieve sores.

Almost all herbal treatments from Kharajyr doctors come in the form of salves, pastes, tea, incense, or infused with food for ingestion.

chiropractic practices: Ometrism

In rough times as the medieval ones, where one can easily get hurt, sick or get scars, was the motivation of developing a practice meant for increasing one's strength. When the Kharajyr figured out that one’s body also contained a skeleton, it was quickly discovered how it played part in one’s strength. They discovered chiropractic uses which they believed at first would stimulate one’s strength. This practice gained the name of Ometrism and those who practice it are named Ometrists. The word was guided from the Kharajyr's word for 'Energy'.

However, they realized later that this was not the case, when they realized that they instead cured joint pain, popped shoulders, and even a few cases of abnormal bone growth. Though nothing comes with risk, and there have been victims who were giving permanent paralysis in the early stages. This trial and error let the Kha believe that the spine could fix almost any mechanical problem in the body, or worsen it if something went wrong. They realized that every part of the body was connected to the spine through what they call 'Energy Paths'. If they disturb a Path, they can permanently cut it off according to their beliefs. Or if something is wrong with the Path, potentially fix it through their practices.

These practices are still used to fix joints, relieve skeletal pain, bone pain and much more. The body is also often treated with forms of muscle massaging to make sure all the pressure of someone’s body is relieved through the muscles.

Copal

 Copal is like another style of incense, yet with another name.  The Kharajyr believe that this Copal can help with illnesses as stated earlier. Copal is made by grinding up herbs, tree bark, or seeds. These are put in little bowls in typically small amounts and lit on fire. Copal bowls are decorated fiercely to portray how important they are to one’s health.

The Kharajyr believe that Copal can help with mental or physical illnesses. So when someone experiences long periods of an illness, they receive medicine in doses, which is oftentimes Copal. The herb or ingredient that is meant to alleviate or cure symptoms is manufactured into Copal for a patient. This system is also used for someone who is feeling mentally ill or is experiencing negative influence. The Kharajyr believe that, similar to steam, the aromatic air can literally take away symptoms from the body by breathing the smoke in and out. The Kharajyr also believe that Copal can infiltrate the body much better than steam can, hence why steam isn’t used as a curing method for physical illnesses but more as prevention.

Diet

Nutrition

Food is the source of strength, so one’s diet had to be optimal. The Kharajyr have a balanced diet due to their jungle roots. fruit, vegetables, meat, fish and much more accounted for a very diverse diet. A diet which is still upheld today.

The Kharajyr replaced the standard bread with their own version made from corn: tortillas. A flat, round version that wasn’t left to rise, thus remaining flat. This is eaten with beans, meat, corn, chili peppers and many other ingredients that they grew in their floating gardens. The gardens also grow cocoa beans, squash, tomatoes, mushrooms, wheat, and quinoa. Of course several fruits such as pineapples, bananas, and mangoes are cultivated.

The Kharajyr also hold pets and livestock. As livestock they’re more likely to keep turkeys, chickens, salamanders, and birds. Some of these are also held as pets. The Kharajyr also often hunt for their food. Gophers, boars, fish, and bigger birds are acquired through hunting and trapping methods. 

Though, there is one particular pet which has been bred and kept by Kharajyr for very long for they were discovered in the ponds of the jungles where the Kha lived. The small, colorful axolotl’s are bred and kept in ponds. The ponds near Kharajyr are filled with them as they are seen as nature’s beauty.
