the Warriors of Yong Ping

DEFINITION

  The People’s Army of Yong Ping, also named the Yong Ping Army, are a force of volunteering and conscripted citizens alongside allied mercenaries who have chosen to take up arms in the name of protecting the people of Yong Ping. Whether it be against an internal or external threat, the YPA and its Soldiers are purpose-trained to their specific duties. The most soldiers or regular ranks are familiarly known as Zhànshì or Lion Guard, whilst the commissioned officers are known as Guān or Dragon Guard. 

  The Army has a strict code of honor, which all soldiers regardless of rank must follow. The soldiers stand as a representation of Yong Ping itself, alongside its history and its population. Hence they must portray utmost honor and bravery in every given scenario before them.

  The Yong Ping Army is divided into two Regiments. Those being the Zhànshì Regiment and the Bushi Regiment. The soldiers and officers of the Zhànshì Regiment specialize in siege work alongside community services, while the counterparts in the Bushi Regiment are trained and exercised specifically in the art of cavalry and tax collection. Both Regiments have a unique culture within them, yet follow the same ranking structure and code of honor: Their purpose is twofold; To serve and protect Yong Ping.  

HISTORY

  Formed as a defensive volunteer force conscripted from the City’s population, the Yong Ping Army has stood proudly as a protective barrier against all dangers and threats posed against the people of Yong Ping for many years. The Tianrui zhànshì have long stood a bulwark against that which would harm their people, serving as protectors and monster hunters in the past. With the growth of numbers in their countrymen joining them in the West though, they soon realized they alone could not uphold this duty alone. Tianrui Ren saw to the establishment and training of a civilian defense force in their then resident district in Talon's Port, a group which would be known as the Tai Ping People's Army.

  The militia at the time was aided in numbers as needed by the Icathian Company, an ally who continues to stand by Yong Ping and her people in valued service to this day. With an even further surge in population and founding of Yong Ping, the YPA was formally established and the handbook written as a guide of conduct and service for all enlisted. New supply requisition was contracted out to the local San Xiong Di Company, outfitting the ranks with the finest the city had to offer. It was also during this time that two main regiments were established. 

  The Zhànshì, a regiment of Li-Ren under the command of then Duhu Tinarui Ren specializing in siege equipment and civil service; and the Bushi, a regiment of Oyashimans under the command of then Sōchō Masamune Musashi specializing in cavalry and tax collection. Whilst specializing in different categories, the two served the same purpose and remain flexible in duty to fill needs as required.

  In modern Yong Ping, the Zhànshì regiment serves as the sole pillar of the YPA in both law enforcement and city defense under the command of Duhu Tianrui Ryu. Stationed in the east wall side Long Keep, the crimson and gold uniform can be seen patrolling all districts as symbols of safety and security in the Jade State.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The armed forces of the Jade State of Yong Ping, often referred to as the “Yong Ping Army” or simply the “Y.P.A.”. They are a trained and organized military fighting force equipped for fighting on land and sea in order to protect the Jade State of Yong Ping and her people, be it from a threat of internal or external origin. During an era of war and conflicts, the modernized Yong Ping Army shall act as the sword and shield of the Jade State, protecting her citizens and territory. 

THE ARMY:

The Zhanshi Regiment

Under the command of His Excellency, the Protector-General of the Jade State, this regiment is the main fighting force the soldiers of the army are organized into. The name “Zhanshi” translates into “Warrior”, hinting at the main attributes of this regiment. It’s soldiers are highly focused upon infantry combat, as well as artillery support. 

The main duties of this regiment are not only upholding and securing the peace within the Jade State of Yong Ping, but also to protect her from any internal or external threats. Being a soldier within this regiment is neither a task nor a duty, but an honor which must be deserved through rigorous training and exercise. 

The Fukuro Tantei-Sha Company

The Fukuro Tantei-Sha Company, or short FTS-Company, is a subgroup of the Zhanshi Regiment, which focuses upon investigating criminal matters of both civilian and military nature. They actively look into cases and work in conjunction with the regular body of the Yong Ping Army to solve and deduct any criminal activities against the Laws of the Jade State which require an investigation.

The commanding officer of this company is a Duifu of the High Commands direct choice. Once a candidate is suggested to the High Command, a vote is held to see if the candidate shall fill the position. A simple majority is enough to have the Duifu positioned into command, though if no majority is achieved, a new candidate must be presented. During the command of the Duifu, he can neither be demoted, nor removed from their command unless a majority is achieved within the High Command.

Although this company operates quite independently from the rest of the YPA, they are first and foremost soldiers of the Yong Ping Army and still a part of the regular chain-of-command and under the direct authority of the High Command of the Yong Ping Army. 

The Ishiguntai Regiment

This group of highly trained and equipped Soldiers stand as the special operations command and are an essential part of the Y.P.A. operations, both internal and external. Throughout the Regiment’s history, most major operations required Ishiguntai Support alongside their Regular counterparts within the Yong Ping Army. It is through their combined efforts that every operation, every mission and every task is completed with the amount of professionalism it requires.

The Ishiguntai Regiment is not a part of the regular chain-of-command and follows their own command structure. Although this is in effect, this Regiment is under the direct authority of the High Command of the Yong Ping Army as well as the Chancellor of the Jade State.

THE CHAIN-OF-COMMAND:

The High Command;

Duhu (Protector General)

Their Excellency, the Duhu of the Jade State, also known as the Protector General of the Jade State, is the commanding officer of the entire Yong Ping Army. They are the primary executor of the Laws of the Jade State and serve as the head of the Ministry of Defence. The holder of this office is appointed directly by the Zhu of the Jade State of Yong Ping and has the duty to ensure the protection and security of Yong Ping. Furthermore, the Duhu may author field reports while on campaign or during a military operation to inform the general public and Jade Government of the current circumstances of the Army. 

Jiangjun (Commander)

This rank serves as the executive officer to the Duhu and his primary military advisor. They are the second in command within the entire Yong Ping Army. They are charged with assisting with clerical matters as well as the training and maintaining the military for it to be prepared to defend the territory of the Jade State at any notice. 

Jinzhou (Colonel)

Within the Yong Ping Army, there are two Jinzhou. These act as the regimental commanding officers of the Zhanshi Regiment or the Ishiguntai Regiment and aid their superiors in decision making as junior members of the High Command. Furthermore, this rank has the duty to oversee the day-to-day running of the Regiment and the order of the guard. They are an essential block that keeps the pyramid of the Yong Ping Army together. 

The Officer Corps

Duizhu (Captain)

Duizhus are the final rank before High Command. They overview and manage enlisted soldiers and Duifus, acting as an extension and tool of the High Command of the Army. These Officers of the Army may suggest promotions of subordinates from the ranks of Kanshou to Duifu. Duizhus also have the duty to organize and coordinate the Duifus and their own respective duties in order to ensure the readiness of the Yong Ping Army.

Duifu (Sergeant)

A Duifu is a junior commissioned Officer within the YPA Officer Corps. They have proven to be capable and reliable leaders both in and outside of combat. These junior officers neither cower in the face of fear or adversity, nor do they allow their subordinates to. 

Duifus are the first rank which are permitted to hold military exercises and drills in order to prepare the armed forces of the Y.P.A. Their authority directly acts as an extension of the Captain and with that of the High Command.

The Enlisted Corps

Senior Kanshou (Corporal)

Senior Kanshous are the most experienced soldiers of the enlisted corps and stand as a shining example of loyal soldiering and honor. They are proven to be battle hardened and formidable protectors of the Jade State and her people. These soldiers have similar duties as Kanshou do, though have the authority to assist directly with the holding and organisation of military exercises. 

Kanshou (Private)

Kanshou make up the tip of the sword for the Yong Ping Army. They have proved themselves to be worthy and capable of enforcing the law as a peacekeeper and protecting the Jade State in times of need. They have passed basic training as Xinbings and are ready to defend and protect the Jade State and her interests. These soldiers have proven themselves to be strong and loyal to the Army and Yong Ping.

Xinbing (Recruit)

Xinbings are citizens which have decided to serve the Jade State militarily. These brave men and women undergo basic military training for two dragon’s weeks. After passing and attending 3 military exercises, held by a Duifu or higher, and under the circumstance of no disciplinary actions, these citizens can be promoted to Kanshou.

They possess the authority to enforce the law as any other soldier of the Yong Ping Army, though their actions are closely monitored by their superiors.

THE MILITARY LAW AND PUNISHMENTS:

Yong Ping Army Military Offenses:

All active duty soldiers of the YPA, both enlisted and commissioned,  are held to the same laws which they enforce upon a daily basis. Though to ensure discipline is maintained, each active duty soldier of the YPA is held to a strict basis of regulations and codes of conduct. To distinguish simple and minor disciplinary issues from major and criminal matters, the aforementioned regulations and codes of conduct are generally organized into three different subtypes:

-MINOR OFFENSE- An issue of smaller size, often petty in nature and handled by Duifus in the form of direct on-the-spot punishment.

-INTERMEDIATE OFFENSE- An issue of larger importance. Handled by direct commanding officers from the rank of Duizhu or above in the form of a military tribunal, requiring 2 other commissioned officers to assist in the giving of the verdict.

-MAJOR OFFENSE- An issue of extreme importance and commonly violent in nature. These offenses require the presence of the Duhu himself/herself and a military tribunal.

The lesser of the two offense subtypes are categorized higher depending upon the amount of offenses committed by the soldier in question. This equals to the following;

-2 minor offenses equal 1 intermediate offense.

-2 intermediate offenses equal 1 major offense.

MINOR OFFENSES

Malingering while on duty.

Undue behavior before a superior officer.

Showing disrespect to a superior officer in any way or form.

Neglecting one’s guard post for leisure activity. 

Not fulfilling the duties of the assigned rank with the utmost respect and diligence. 

Attempted minor criminal activities against the laws of the Jade State.

Participating in any minor criminal activities against the laws of the Jade State.

Failing to report criminal activities to a superior office. 

Unintentionally antagonizing civilians in de-escalation situations. 

Not keeping one’s military equipped uniform up to army standards. 

INTERMEDIATE OFFENSES

Intentionally antagonizing civilians in de-escalation situations. 

Direct responsibility for the death of civilians in an arrest situation. 

Undue surrender in the face of battle.

Insubordination towards a superior officer.

Accepting a bribe in every circumstance.

Attempted intermediate criminal activities against the laws of the Jade State.

Participating in any intermediate criminal activities against the laws of the Jade State.

Directly causing lethal harm intentionally or otherwise to another member of the YPA in a friendly fire incident.

Directly causing non lethal harm intentionally or otherwise to another member of the YPA in a friendly fire incident.

Threatening a citizen or visitor to the Jade State of Yong Ping whilst on duty. 

Impersonating a different rank or position within the military as the currently assigned one.

Looting during any military operations.

Treating one’s brothers and sisters in arms in a disrespectful and dishonorable fashion.

Selling or trading military equipment without direct permission from a superior officer.

MAJOR OFFENSES

Committing treason against the Jade State of Yong Ping.

Fratinersation with enemies of the Jade State of Yong Ping.

Espionage against the Jade State of Yong Ping or her allies. 

Inciting mutinous behavior within the Yong Ping Army.

Attempting to incite mutinous behavior within the Yong Ping Army.

Participating in any form of mutinous behavior within the Yong Ping Army. 

Attempted major criminal activities against the laws of the Jade State of Yong Ping.

Participating in major criminal activities against the laws of the Jade State of Yong Ping.

Misconduct as a prisoner of War.

Yong Ping Army Military Punishments;

After the commanding officer presiding over a disciplinary issue comes to a verdict of guilt, they may choose, depending upon the offenses committed and the severity of them, a punishment fitting the crime from the following lists. The chosen punishment must always be in accordance with the offense committed.

Punishments for Minor Offenses:

Short timed removal of command.

Short timed suspension from rank and pay.

Minor disciplinary action in the form of physical punishment. 

A dragon’s day confined in the brig.

A fine of up to 50 Minae.

Punishments for Intermediate Offenses:

Demotion or prolonged removal of command.

Prolonged suspension from rank and pay.

A prolonged military sentence for up to 5 years in the brig.

A dishonorable discharge from the Yong Ping Army.

Punishments for Major Offenses:

Demotion or prolonged removal of command.

A prolonged military sentence for up to 10 years in the brig. 

Military Execution by either firing squad or hanging. 

Branding of the culprit.

Removal of the culprit’s dominant hand.

A dishonorable discharge from the Yong Ping Army.

Court Martial Procedure

After a servicemember of the Yong Ping Army is accused of committing a military offense of the grade intermediate or above, a court martial is organized with the Duhu  at its head. During the process of the Court Martial, the accused is relieved of command and placed under arrest within the brig until the trial is concluded. After preparations are made, evidence and or witnesses are collected, the Court Martial begins. 

The charges are then to be read aloud to the accused and the accused may plead guilty or not guilty. The accused shall then truthfully and honestly explain their case and their actions to the Duhu, presenting any evidence or witnesses.

The evidence and or witnesses are then questioned and processed, the Duhu then allows the High Command to advise them upon the verdict. If the accused is guilty as charged and the verdict is given, the verdict shall be accordingly, depending upon the degree of the crime committed against the Yong Ping Army.

Though if the accused is not guilty, they shall be reinstated to former military command and be publically set free from a stain upon their vest. 

BENEFITS AND PAYMENT;

Soldiers of the Yong Ping Army receive pay at the end of each dragon’s week. Xinbings are not given payment, as they are still in training. Members of the YPA are only granted wages for an active display of their duties and services within the dragon’s week the wages are handed out. Wages and payment are to be distributed in accordance to the following chart:

Furthermore, servicemembers of the Yong Ping Army enjoy a wide array of additional benefits within the Jade State. These are both economical and social in nature and only apply to soldiers which have been promoted to the rank of Kanshou or above. These benefits are;

-Free healthcare within the Jade State of Yong Ping and her borders.

-A tax reduction of 5 minae and up with rank every dragon’s week.

-Free room and board within assigned military quarters of the Dragon’s Keep.

-A price reduction within the Teahouse and any other participating shops

The Ishiguntai and Zhanshi Regiments attacking an enemy encampment during the pirate war.

The Yong Ping Army was founded in the 14th Year of the Second Age by the former Duhu Tianrui Ren and first served as a small militia, consisting of conscripted citizens and mercenarie with the task of defending the newly founded Jade State of Yong Ping and citizens. 

Though the Jade State stood proud about itself over its neutrality, the rest of the continent fell into deep and brutal war against one another. This war, named by historians the 10th Nordling war, lasted for many years and it was during these years that the Yong Ping Army modernized and reformed. These reforms were both strategically and politically of great importance for the Jade State and fortified Yong Ping’s presence within the continent.

The YPA often faced battles on their own territory as well as foreign territory. During the until then rather new command of Duhu Tianrui Ryu, he was ordered by the Zhu to assist Norland militarily against the Skanarri during the siege of the Lunner Keep. He swiftly rallied the Zhanshi Regiment and led a devastating attack against the besieging Skanarri with the use of both cavalry, infantry and artillery. This victory was the baptism by fire for many soldiers of the YPA, including Protector General Tianrui Ryu himself.

Soon after, the Jade State was faced with a different threat. A pirate fleet approached the shores of Yong Ping and demanded slaves, money and the Jade State’s surrender. Duhu Tianrui Ryu was ordered once more to take his men and defend the Jade State and her citizens from the aforementioned threat. He, alongside the Zhu and a YPA Frigate approached the enemy vessels during the dead of night and caused massive damage, but at the cost of the YPA Frigate itself, resulting in minor casualties for the Yong Ping Army. 

After this battle, the pirates began bombarding the city of Yong Ping for retaliation, resulting in major civilian casualties. The High Command of the Yong Ping Army in cooperation with the government formulated a plan to wipe out the fleet’s lead vessel by sending an armed boarding party of both the Zhanshi Regiment and Ishiguntai Regiment aboard. This boarding party discovered that these pirates had a large force of slaves within their ships, making it ever so hard for the YPA to directly attack the enemy. Many slaves were rescued from the boarded ship and given a new life in Yong Ping. 

Yet as luck had it, only a few nights later a large tsunami wreaked havoc amongst the sea south of Yong Ping, completely decimating the pirate fleet. Those who survived made their way to the shorelines of a beach eastward of the main city, setting up a camp there. This camp was highly defended by the surviving pirates, yet eventually fell after a coordinated attack by the Ishiguntai Regiment in order to rescue YPA Prisoners of War and surviving slaves.

Ever since that day, the YPA has proven itself to be a capable force of soldiers, ready to defend their home at any time.

AWARDS AND MERIT;

Any and all medals handed out to servicemen of the Yong Ping Army shall be under the direct supervision and agreement of their commanding officer. Each soldier is able to recommend a soldier of any rank for a medal of any kind, yet the decision has to be made by the respective commander of a regiment or further high-command officers.

李人 Dragon’s Honor

An aurum talisman upon which a star is pressed, attached to the hip of a soldier’s service belt. This talisman stands as a symbol of honor and is bestowed upon a soldier of the YPA for an act of valour and heroism within their respective line of duty in times of conflict. This may either be through direct combat or decisive leadership action. 

李人Dragon’s Heart

A small golden medal in the shape of a five-pointed star, which bears the inscription 荣誉与牺牲, “Honor and Sacrifice” alongside the emblem of the Jade State of Yong Ping- the snarling maw of Yong Ping’s Long Dragon stretched over its golden sides. Worn attached to the service belt of a member of the YPA by a red and gold braid. This medal is awarded to a soldier of the Yong Ping Army who has either given their life or has been severely wounded during combat against an enemy of the Jade State of Yong Ping. 

李人Dragon’s Eye

A silver plated medal that would fit in the palm of one’s hand  bearing four triangles pointing towards the center of the award, where a golden circle lies. Pressed upon the golden circle is the Long Dragon of the Jade State of Yong Ping, with the words 荣誉与服务, “Honor and Service”. It is attached to the service belt of a member of the YPA by a red braid. This medal is awarded to a soldier of the Yong Ping Army, who has made use in combat of their respective weapon beyond the range it is normally used and fired at. 

李人 Dragon’s Honored Welcome

A golden six-pointed star with small silver triangles placed at the tips of each star's arm. Within the center of the star lies a silver emblem of the Jade State of Yong Ping, alongside the words 荣誉与成功, “Honor and Success”. This medal is attached to the service belt of a member of the YPA by a red and gold braid. It is awarded to a soldier of the Yong Ping Army who has recruited five new Brethren in Arms into service who have all achieved the rank of Kanshou.

李人 Dragon’s Honored Dedication

A prestigious aurum medallion award, upon which a silver star is pressed that bears the Long Dragon seal of Yong Ping. It has thirty small smooth golden spikes stemming from its sides, each spike representing a year of service within the Yong Ping Army. This medal is only granted to those who have served the YPA with honour and strength for 30 years.

李人 Seal of Yong Ping 

A wax seal pressed onto the right shoulder plate or sword sheath at the recipient's discretion denoting their completion of training and ascension from the rank of Xinbing to Kanshou. The red and gold seal features the serpentine Long Dragon of Yong Ping with its maw bared in a fierce snarl.

李人 Medal of Dedication to Service 

Awarded to members of the YPA who have gone above and beyond their day-to-day duties in service to the people of Yong Ping. This engraved aurum talisman features a vertical line of characters, 值班有荣誉 "In duty there is honor." This talisman is worn at the right hip, either tied hanging from the front of one's belt or attached to their upper greaves.

李人 Medal of Moderation 

Awarded to members of the YPA who have shown incredible restraint and compassion in their duties to the people of Yong Ping, the mark of a patient peacekeeper. This ornate aurum coin with a square hole punched through the middle features a tightly embossed circle of characters, 我的行动是我立足的基础 "My actions are the ground upon which I stand." This coin is worn at the right hip, a cord looped through the middle so it may hang from the belt.

RECRUITMENT, TRAINING AND OATH;

To join and enlist into the Yong Ping Army, one must fulfill three criteria;

-Be of age

-Be physically capable

-Be a citizen of the Jade State of Yong Ping

If these three criteria are fulfilled, the person wishing to enlist simply has to speak to any officer of the YPA to be inducted into the Army as a Xinbing. They then recite the oath of loyalty before the Duhu or another member of High Command and are then given their equipment and keys. It is from that moment on that their training commences.

Such training takes at least 2 dragon’s weeks and consists of 3 Combat trainings and 1 de-escalation training. After these were attended and the Xinbing has had no disciplinary issues, they can officially be promoted to Kanshou.

The oath of loyalty;

 I pledge to be faithful and obedient to the laws,

 and the superiors placed above me,

 to follow all orders of my superiors punctually and precisely,

We of Yong Ping last year received an ultimatum from a Captain Ha-Jun of the Black Pit Fleet. Demands were made of the Jade State’s surrender, all our resources, and a force of twenty workers on threat of our destruction. They gave a Dragon’s Day to consider, however Yong Ping does not negotiate with terrorists.

An attack was launched in the dead of night, lamps snuffed in hopes of an unnoticed approach. Below deck stowed enough munitions and Dragon’s Fire pots to level a small fort. The JSS Límíng and crew made their approach on the pirate flagship. There was one error which would tip the battle against our smaller target with concentrated firepower. When we had thought to approach, the ship navigated to their port rather than aft. Placing us within direct range of broadside. 

Shots were loosed, and our presence made known. The battle was long and hard fought, a small group harassing their starboard to lessen attention on our artillery corvette. Dragon’s Fire launched into their decks and hull spread, tongues of green flame engulfing those sent to extinguish them. Blows traded through the night saw their galleon battered, and crew thinned. This was unfortunately in vain as eventually shot after shot into our hull could no longer be sustained and repaired. Lifeboats were deployed to evacuate the Límíng, charred bodies dumped from the pirate vessel bobbing beside us now. From the ferrum chain and bindings, it looks as if slaves were sent to deal with the fires we set. This was something to be considered another time as fire caught to the Límíng, her stores of munition still plentiful. Most of the lifeboats were thankfully out of range as she exploded, the final death of her spirit felt in my bones as the machine erupted into a massive verdant fireball. Shrapnel of wood, metal, and glass covered our return to shore. The green fires burned well into the dawn next day. Her machine spirit shall be remembered, and her loss learnt from.

We got naught a day of rest as the next day a volley struck the South Sea Dragon Gates, beheading one statue and demolishing the other. The next shots destroying the top floor of the Tianrui Teahouse. A rally is swiftly called to the Long Keep, the YPA returning fire from the ballista. A few shots land on the assaulting vessel before the pirates destroy the ballista, and put a hole through the floor of her tower. Rotations are made to man the scorpio, a call for reinforcements sent before they decide to start using more than three cannons. Reinforcements do arrive from Haense and Tsutenkaku, however by the time they do a parlay must be called. Both sides have sustained damage enough and need time to recuperate. I am able to negotiate two Dragon’s Days of ceasefire to meet demands in exchange for four barrels of plum wine and Tsutenkaku brews. One of which containing an Ishiguntai samurai infiltrator.

The two Dragon’s Days are in truth more an effect to prepare for a final counter assault. Reinforcements are gathered to briefing to discuss the plan. It is clarified we believe there are slaves aboard the flagship, and we wish to free them. Our infiltrator is stowed aboard with knives to arm the slaves and wreak discord on the ship. Once the crew is sufficiently distracted, a YPA patrol corvette navigates to their aft and punches a hole to exfiltrate our people and as many slaves as possible. Once this is done, the killing blow may be made. Kalruk’Gorkil offers as well to pose as an orc slaver to sell disguised allies to the pirates, further allowing our forces to disable the ship from within. This is confirmed between myself and Duhu Ryu, and volunteers step forward for the task. The task ahead shall have little allowance for deviation. May the Ancestors smile upon us.

The day had begun rather quiet and peaceful. I had been conducting my investigations into a case concerning one of my officers for the most of my morning. After finalizing most of the information I had found, I called for an address to the soldiers and officers of the Yong Ping Army. During this address I awarded two Dragon's Honor medals. One to the current chancellor and former Duhu, the other to Kanshou Kin. Following this ceremony Kanshou Kin was also promoted to the rank of Duifu, following his work and dedication to not only the Army but also Yong Ping itself. I then dismissed all of the soldiers, thinking the rest of my day shall be just as peaceful and quiet. I was soon to be wronged.

Mere minutes following my address to both of my regiments two messengers came from the Lunar Keep of Norland, bearing an important note for me. After I read said note, I immediately rang the bells of the Long Keep once more and called the soldiers of the Yong Ping Army back to the assembly. I stood before them and ordered them to get ready for a fight. I informed them that the aforementioned messengers had brought the news that the Lunar Keep of Norland is currently under siege by the Skanarri and that we must rush to their rescue.

After having given this order, the soldiers rushed to grab their weaponry and armor before lining up before me once more in full combat gear. The Bushi Regiment then saddled up upon their war horses and began to ride alongside the Infantrymen of the Zhanshi Regiment. With the Cavalry we towed a ballista to be used as field artillery against the enemy, alongside enough ammunition.

Following our arrival close to the Lunar Keep, I sent out a small squad of scouts to check out the terrain and the enemy positions. Once the scouts returned we began to march closer and closer to the keep. The two horsemen towed the artillery south-east of the keep, in perfect firing position and range for our ballista. The rest of the cavalry moved in directly to the keep and began to rush the enemy head on, while the infantry began pushing the right and left flanks of the enemy infantry. The battle had begun. 

Shortly before the cavalry made its first push the artillery fired its first shot, landing directly into the enemy lines. This combined with a cavalry push and its respective infantry immediately overwhelmed the enemy forces. Within minutes of our arrival the entire enemy raiding party of 30 had been completely wiped out and destroyed. No prisoners were taken. There was no escape from the Dragon Guard of Yong Ping. The battle had been won and the Lunar Keep secured.

We saluted the inhabitants of the Lunar Keep, who at first believed us to be soldiers of the Northguard. Following this we then made our way back to the Jade State of Yong Ping, where I dismissed the soldiers and congratulated them on their victory in battle.

Jotohei Masamune Fumi began plans for an upcoming camping trip, a friends coming of age meant as something that'd last for quite a long time as a series of trials are undertaken, the friend group as a whole attending. Before that, though, there was a rule. The only things to be brought are the clothes on your back and a blade you've made yourself. Her work as a blacksmith came in handy and with words that only came from her years of experience, she'd manage to explain the process of blacksmithing and show the others the concept, so they'd at the least have a rudimentary blade. Complaints were made by the neighbors as the teens gathered and planned and after speaking with their superiors, they'd set off the next day.

The first night was cold, bitter as the group struggled with the basic necessities of life. Finding a place to set up, where the rain wouldn't flood the ground and where they could overlook any animals coming their way, turned into setting up a crude shelter and only grew from there. The struggle soon turned into something fun, the group finding something during that year spent out.

A bond, furthering past that of friendship and evolving into that of brotherhood.

The collecting of fruits spurred on talks of a future farmhouse, the finding of animals bringing mention of training their Shibas to sniff out drugs upon their return to the nation and the creation of tools from the most basic of things helping to better the very foundation their knowledge was based from. Laughter came as some get jump-scared by a falling coconut and wonder abound as a Turtle stood close by a newly hatched egg.

And as the group eventually returned, a casual confidence is taken up, the group and Masamune Fumi herself sure of her steps and movements. Soon after their return, the trainings of the YPA seemed to ramp up. With more and more at the age of law and needing to commit to three years of service, she'd find her friends alongside her, clad in gear and marching along the road until they'd be briefed in the newly created training area.

Looming walls met with the neighing of Horses as the clack of hooves sound as they're brought into the newly constructed stables. The military was seemingly undergoing an upgrade and more then ever, if she were to earn her place, let alone keep it she'd need to work harder then before. Ballista training bled into siege training, and soon she was learning to draw a bow at a moving target in the wheat fields below.

How cruel the thought would be, at how the trainings began in true and the practice turned into reality.

A thundering roar, bellowing out from the back of the city, the creature unknown in origin. Orders sent out and a group of the YPA, her included, marching out on a scouting mission to seek its source. As near silent footsteps came to a jarring stop, the group would crouch behind the stone boulders, though they were soon seen.

A creature, large and frightening, with a tail akin to that of a swinging mace and seemingly made of ice, fur and flesh. An Ice Creature of gigantic proportions running at them, past bellowing roars and rattling the ground as the scouting group bolted for the city, shouts to ring the bell and to arm the ballista's soon reaching the citizenry and military alike.

The air turned to ice, breaths frosty and fogging out in front of them as they'd reach and man the walls. Arrows fired and nay striking the target as intended, ballista's and arrows are lit aflame via molotov as they'd come at the creature rapid-fire, one after another in an onslaught of firepower.

At first, it was the five, the scouting group just barely awake themselves before the roaring began. Jotohei Masamune Fumi leading the siege against the Ice Creature as requested but soon, more and more joined them. Citizens and soldiers alike banding together to take down the creature that dared threaten their prosperous home. With a bolt landing to blind one of its eyes and its fur and flesh scorched with flames, it'd finally flee, joy overcoming those there after their long battle and celebration would take place.

Seventeen and enjoying the taste of aged plum wine with her friends in the teahouse, she'd slump back, exhaustion clear to her face though joy clear in her tone.

Alas, this wasn't the end to what was to come, as the increased trainings weren't for the Ice Creature; but for the assistance offered to Luciensberg as they'd prepare a siege against the Ratiki who'd taken over their neighbors home.

A drink is enjoyed after a battle hard won and the next battle prepared for in turn.

Would a time come for the Apprentice to rest or would it only continue to build? Leaving her but a choice as she comes to a careening precipice: Rise or Fall.

Masamune Fumis life gotten better with her new friends at her side, and she found herself smiling more as she'd meet them by the ramen cart day by day. Foreigners often visited and she'd find herself opening more, speaking to them as she'd work the gates and as time went on, she came to fill in her gear and boots properly, snug as she'd go on throughout her day. She'd come to know the Duhu, Tianrui Ren whenever she'd visit the teahouse, the man slipping her mooncakes in secret, the added treats helping to fill her cheeks further and giving her a healthy flush.

With her working the gates, she met a boy who just moved from Edn by the name of Oijin. Hitting it off relatively quick, the two fast became partners-in-crime, leading foreigners away where they'd enjoy the thrill of gambling.

It took some time for her to get used to. Her blood Chichi was a horrid gambler, betting away most if not all of the families savings when he was still alive and that inner turmoil she'd turn out like him lingered in the back of her mind near constantly.

But Oijin kept her stable.

A limit is kept to what was bet and as the risks heightened and the adrenaline flowed, she'd find she had a gift for winning these high-stakes games where one might just bet their entire life savings away for a mere chance.

The young girl soon didn't leave the older boys side, both never far apart from one another and as the friend group gradually grew, a decision was made. A home within the slums, an alright size but recently burnt down from someone thought to be a murderer is bought up cheap with minas gotten from their bets and they'd begin their journey of repairing the home little by little.

Floors are laid down with what little carpentry skills they had.

Fabric from the markets is bartered for and then strung about the backroom in a haven of plush blankets and pillows.

Blood is scrubbed away from the previous torture room making it into what would come to be known as the Clubhouse.

It took time and yet as the group worked together, it was repaired within months and soon they had a base of operations.

With a better day-to-day life, her performance improved in the military itself. Nearing sixteen years old, her boots thudded along the road with a newfound confidence even as her family life seemed to take a dip.

A commission is gotten and a favor done in return.

And as Nitohei Masamune Fumi arrived at the called upon award ceremony, they'd come to be Jotohei Masamune Fumi and her true journey began then, amid laughter, tears and plum wine snuck in the dark of night.

The Yong Ping Army War Goat has long been a mascot of our military, fed a good diet and loved by soldiers and civilians alike, when news came of the War Goats consequent kidnapping and harm, a program has now been devised in the following day. We do not accept the harm of Little Xiu-Ying or any future War Goats and this will actively work to prevent this from ever happening again.

Base Information

A War Goat tends to weigh anywhere from 100 to 120 pounds, give or take while keeping in mind its base weight and gear.

Needing feedings two to three times a day due to their strenuous work, hay, grasses and various grains are recommended of high quality to keep your War Goat in top shape.

For your War Goats continued health, if partial horn-growth seems to be coming from the original horns, also known as scurs, they’d need to be trimmed. Only done in 1-inch segments at a time, you’d use a bone saw and warmed iron in order to get the job done, a painful but needed process.

War Goats Diet

While grasses, hay and grains are usually opted for, there is a variation of what a War Goat can eat. Raisins, greens, carrots, sunflower and pumpkin seeds are some of many things they eat and enjoy. Bananas are considered a sweet treat and something recommended in use when training your War Goat as a treat to show they did a good job.

War Goats Gear

On your average War Goat, one would find 40-50 pounds worth of gear on them, 50 being the max they could carry as it’s a portion of their body weight.

The padded gambeson weighs in at 10 pounds, multiple layers of fabric and cloth meant to protect the wearer.

The safety harness above the gambeson would have a loop at the top, for their handler to hook and carry the War Goat along if needed and weighing in at 20 pounds.

This leaves at least 20 pounds that you can do with as you wish, though most popular is pockets along the gambeson or harness, filled with bandages and tinctures for the soldier on the go.

Recommended Base Kit

A recommended base kit would be to have at least two rolls of bandages, some form of spirit to disinfect a wound, a tincture of Tippens Root and a tincture of Blissfoil. This would be the medical basics.

Moving from there, if separated from others or somehow stuck out somewhere overnight, three tightly packed boxes of rations [enough for you and the Goat], something sweet mixed inside to aid in possible blood loss and to help prevent shock. Alongside this would be a small packet of matches, a rolled-up blanket and a mirror which could be used for signaling.

War Goat Training

Once a handler gets their hands on a Goat, this is when the training would begin. Something to keep in mind, they think of you as them and will react in kind. A War Goat is a soldiers best friend and you’d do best to treat them that way.

The first rule in training your War Goat is to never physically discipline them, things such as pushing, striking or hitting them would turn their aggressive behavior towards you and they’ll respond in kind. Instead, if you wish to show they did bad, use the term you want them to associate this with like ‘stop’ or ‘no’ and squirt them with a bottle of water.

They’re a lot like cats in this, hating water and they’d begin to associate the word with water and when hearing it, would stop immediately and before long learn what actions bring along the term said.

When first training, it’s recommended for them to wear a collar and be leaded around. They tend to duck their heads to get away, so keep the goats head up with one hand under their chin and the other on the collar, though careful not to choke them.

If the goat is running, grab them by their back leg and not the front, as if gotten by the front, it’d break their leg.

Instead of chasing your War Goat, lead them with food instead, things like apples, peanuts or what would be considered a rare treat. You need to be sure to reward good behavior.

When handling your goat, especially one with horns, firmly grasp the base of the horns in order to bring them somewhere.

That is all for today, though advanced handling might be touched on at a later time. YPA soldiers are recommended to undergo this and to speak with Heicho Masamune Fumi in order to see about their own War Goats Gambeson and Harness today.

Woke up as usual at 05:00. Had a small cup of tea for breakfast before meditating for half an hour. All soldiers present at morning parade, except my executive officer. They had an incident and are on sick-leave. I will be visiting them and check on their health once I have inspected all of the walls and YPA facilities around the city.

Inspection went flawlessly. No issues reported and no lack of security. My executive officer, Duizhu Watanabe, seems to have drunken an awfully strong tea and is in bed for the rest of the week. Nothing serious. Forth inspection in a row without any security issues. I am most impressed and satisfied with their duties.

Within the entire Zhanshi Regiment, I am yet to see a challenge they do not stand their ground against. Every threat, every fight they are engaged in, they are yet to disappoint me in any way. It is truly an honor for me to call them my brothers and sisters in arms. It was not an easy duty to turn them all into soldiers, yet thanks to the help of my fellow Soldiers the road was a short one, regardless of any stones placed in their path. Though since this regiment surpasses many of those who stand against the banners of Yong Ping in bravery and honor, it is no surprise to me. 

Yet ever since my most recent event within the temple I am feeling unwell. I can see little and feel as if I had drunk the Teahouse’s entire sake storage. Though rest is something I am unable to afford. I shall have my senior non-commissioned-officer take over some of the morning formalities with my staff so I can get an extra hour of sleep and rest. An hour desperately needed, or else I might just as well get myself to the clinic.

Carried on my afternoon meeting with my non-commissioned-officers, ordered them to give the soldiers a light afternoon before having an archery training session, followed by close combat lessons. Went to bed immediately after and slept for three hours before waking up in the middle of the night. Was not able to sleep, hence I went on a small stroll along the walls and city defenses. Nothing out of the ordinary, as usual. Headed to sleep at 01:00.

I awake 06:00 hours, a splash of water in my face then breakfast, green tea, seeing the teahouse in order before I don uniform and see to the Keep. Jiangjun Ryu has already seen the troops in the barracks through exercise and morning change of guard. After comes seeing to the mess to make sure the pantries are stocked before seeing to the armory, both of equal importance in running of the guard. One would hardly expect his fellows to stand watch for hours on end fuelled by base rations. Adherence to discipline does not require you to stop eating good food, just a balance of it. Daily duty proceeds as normal, my own task of the day seeing to a restock of spare plate for repair. As a thankfully quiet day takes to a close, I am left now to reflect on my past years of service as Duhu to Yong Ping.

For as long as I could remember after calamity struck my family in Arcas, I held these private fantasies of a warrior’s death- to die fighting for my family and kin folk, a cause greater than myself. A death time and again lived in my mind where my death might mean something more than what I had lived so far. That I might be remembered in greatness for my death. Duty to my family kept me from any such foolishness, and with time I have healed and come to terms with my sense of self. I know now more than ever before that my living gives more meaning than any death I could experience. This does not mean I am now afraid to die, it is simply the realisation I am no longer afraid to keep living.

The uniform fit better now, the recent growth spurt helped and the added muscle mass due to Masamune Fumis work as an apprentice blacksmith on the side certainly didn’t harm that. She wasn’t quite there yet, though, the sleeves were just a bit too long and the chest piece fit better but still felt too loose at some points while too tight in others. Dark blue meshed with black, shifting the vest until she was assured she’d get it the closest she could possibly do so.

The training wouldn’t start just yet and she couldn’t find her Cousin. Maybe he was with the Bison again, she wasn’t sure. That was an ordeal, one that left her with a twisted ankle and broken ribs and nearly one less Cousin. Masamune Fumi was happy he was back, though and that she was healed fully and able to get right back to training.

Her gaze clashed with a young boy, close to her in age as she’d focused once more and seemingly suddenly right in front of her, about to say something. Coming to a hard stop, an awkward smile is offered as he’d signal her to a stop, words a bit hard for her to understand due to the Li-Wen interspersed with his Common. The girl herself knew Oyashiman alongside Common and it took her a moment to make sense of his question. Another boy seemingly came from nowhere and she’d find herself showing both where to find the Duhu, both orphaned due to certain circumstances and soon being conscripted into the YPA as fellow apprentices.

She was no longer the only apprentice and now, she had this urge to help the two, even if she could barely help herself.

All three attended the training, a bit more of a skip to Masamune Fumi's step. It wasn’t just her anymore, she wasn’t the only odd one out and that gave her some sense of peace.

This training didn’t feel as embarrassing, she had new friends to share in her mistakes with and to trade smiles as they’d go through each formation.

Sparring took place outside of the training not even a few days later, bamboo sticks clacking against each other as an armored group approached. Bandits, by the looks of them. The sweat could be felt cooling against her flesh, amber eyes shifting along the ground, even as she shifted back. Even with her training and uptick in confidence, it’d drain away in an instant, not prepared for this.

Threats were made and it’d seem the group took notice the city-state was in slumber, leaving soon afterwards with threats not to tell a soul. Chest tight, she’d join her sparring partner within the gates of the city, seemingly in the process of getting help. The situation is explained and a report is made.

Her newfound confidence seemingly crumbled, though not quite to the bottom of where it was originally. She still had a long way to go, a uniform to fill out properly and if she was lucky, people to befriend and learn alongside with. Maybe the Army wasn’t so lonely after all?

The uniform is big, maybe a bit too big. Masamune Fumi struggled with it for a bit, tucking away errant hair falling from its ponytail and straightening out elbow pads with a frown, anxiety tugging at her. She had to look her best, present herself in the best possible light for this first day, her Chichis ever-looming disappointment hovering over her. Her hair is rearranged, pulled back into a neater, tighter ponytail and feeling like she was ready, she'd march on over to the training area.

Right away, the young girl, nowhere near an adult felt out of place. The others fit their uniform, walked with a certain amount of confidence she had yet to grow into. She was more awkward and gangly, arms too long, uniform just out of size and not able to quite fit right. Shifting, she'd find herself in line, standing tall at 4'8 and swallowing convulsively as she'd stare ahead, listening to the rattled off instructions.

Ponytail swaying behind her, she'd take in the sights and sounds of the city. Laughter filtered out in the distance, coming from the nearby teahouse. The heady scent of glass noodles and spices causing her stomach to roll and mouth to water at the thought of dinner later on. Masamune Fumi focused once more, coming to a step alongside the others before the temple, standing in two lines. It was hot and she was sweaty, resisting the urge to fidget with the uniform, even as she stared across at her father.

Her cheeks are soon hot in embarrassment. The girl was wearing the wrong uniform for her regiment. She silently promised to be better.

As the training ended, she sent a prayer up and got the correct uniform. The apprentice had a long way to go and to grow, too.

Woke up at 05:00 Hours. Began my morning with a small green tea and half an hour of meditation before waking the troops for morning exercises. After finishing their exercises, I order them to relieve the night-force stationed on the gatehouse, keep and walls. 

Change of guard works flawlessly. For now I shall retire to my quarters and commence writing up orders for regiment in the coming months.

After finishing my orders and having them distributed to my subordinates, I inspect the Keep and salute my fellow servicemen as I pass every firing position and watchtower. Though Yong Ping takes no side in the war, every day as I peer over those walls I get a feeling of anxiety. That at any moment me and my soldiers must take up arms to defend Yong Ping and its citizens. A duty we are more than prepared for. I reflect under the guidance of my ancestors and hope that such a day must never come to Yong Ping and its peoples. And if said day comes that me and my men shall be ready and ensure that the sun shall set soon on the enemy forces.

Having finalized my inspection I head to the teahouse for a small sit down with my Executive Officer, Duizhu Watanabe. Together we spend the rest of our afternoon discussing combat training and further deployment of our troops while drinking our month’s salary away in the form of tea. As the hours pass and we conclude our discussions of business, I salute the Duizhu and move on to the barracks, where I meet with the General. 

Our talk ends with a formal salute. I then march on to my quarters where I retire at 22:30 Hours for a few good hours of rest before my day begins anew.

Overview

The People’s Army of Yong Ping (hereafter referred to as the Yong Ping Army abbv. YPA) are a force of volunteering and conscripted citizens and allied mercenaries who have chosen to take service in the name of protecting the people. Whether it be against an internal or external threat, the YPA are purpose-trained to their duties. All regular ranks are familiarly known as zhànshì (warrior) or Lion Guard, whilst the commissioned officer ranks are known as guān (officer) or Dragon Guard. 

General Regulation Protocol

Code 1: Conduct

All enlisted members of the YPA are held to the same community standard which they are meant to enforce. Violation of Yong Ping Law or  major charges of disorderly conduct will be met with stripping of rank and privileges, along with seizure of state provided equipment. Minor charges of disorderly conduct will result in lesser disciplinary action and probation at the overseeing officer’s discretion.

Subsection I

While in and out of uniform, enlisted members' actions represent the YPA, and as such disorderly conduct will be met with appropriate disciplinary measures. 

Subsection II
While on duty, YPA members are required to greet superiors and fellow officers in accordance with Code 1 Subsection III along with a hold fist salute. The hold fist salute is carried out by holding one’s right fist against their left open palm at chest level. When performing the salute, the fist’s thumb must be pointing away from the individual.

Subsection IV
YPA members can be charged with disorderly conduct for the following:
-Direct disrespect of a superior officer. (Major Offense)
-Neglecting their post for leisure activity. (Major Offense)
-Causing harm intentional or otherwise to another member of the YPA. (Major Offense)
-Intentionally antagonizing civilians in a de-escalation situation. (Major Offense)
-Direct responsibility for the death of civilians in an arrest situation. (Major Offense)
-Unintentionally antagonizing civilians in a de-escalation situation. (Minor Offense)
-Wielding a katana without license and proper authorization of Jinzhou or above. (Minor Offense)
-Repeat failure to properly address members of the YPA as according to Code 1 Subsection II regulation. (Minor Offense)

Subsection V
Punishment for Major Offenses depending on severity includes:
-Dishonorable discharge.
-Stripping of rank and privileges granted by membership of YPA.
-Seizure of any state provided equipment.
-Permanent barring of entry to the YPA.

Subsection VI
Punishment for Minor Offenses depending on severity includes:
-Demotion of rank.
-Temporary probation.
-Repeat of basic training.

Subsection VII
YPA members cannot be charged with disorderly conduct for the following:
-Offering emotional support to distressed citizens.
-Tending to any medical needs while on duty.
-Illness.
-Tending to a family emergency while assigned to regular duty.

Code 2: Maintenance

Enlisted members of the YPA are expected to maintain themselves and their equipment to the highest standard in order to better carry out their duty to the people. 

Subsection I

Physical and mental inspections of all enlisted are required to ensure enlisted members of the YPA are suited to continue service. These inspections will take place once every Sun’s Smile (Sunday) in the Yong Ping clinic.

Subsection II

All equipment issued by the state to enlisted YPA members are subject to inspection every Grand Harvest (Saturday). Any broken equipment that cannot be serviced by the YPA member must be returned to the quartermaster for appropriate repair or replacement. 

Subsection III

Full standard equipment for field service is as follows:
-Jian shortsword
-Rectangle shield
-Medium crossbow
-Ferrum binding cuffs
-Light gambeson coat
-Light gambeson greaves
-Light gambeson cap
-Cord and plaque cuirass

-Plated boots
-Plate helm
-Plated gauntlets

Subsection IV
Equipment cannot be modified without prior consent of the quartermaster, or directive from Duizhu or above.

Code 3: Discharge from Service

Subsection I
An Honorable Discharge may be issued to YPA members in the event of the following:
-Retirement from service after the state-mandated period.
-Retirement from service due to severe injury.
-Retirement from service due to old age relative to the descendant race.

Subsection II
A Dishonorable Discharge may be issued to YPA members in the event of the following:
-Being charged with a Major Offense as per Code 1 Subsection IV.
-Being convicted in the courts of the Ministry of Justice for violation of Yong Ping law.
-Deserting one’s post.

Ranking Structure

(GEN) Duhu:

Commands all forces, heads the hierarchy and oversees clerical matters. Able to promote any rank.

I. Serves as the Yong Ping Minister of Defense, corresponding with the other heads of Ministry.

II. Required to see the organisation of guān as well as the overall wellbeing of troops.

III. Required to review army ledgers and ensure the army stocks are properly supplemented.

(CMD) Jiangjun:

Officer rank, leads a company in a division as well as assisting with clerical matters. Able to promote from Kanshou to Jinzhou.

I. Requires minimum 2 Elven weeks to pass from last promotion.

II. Required to hold minimum 1 session siege weapon training or combat skirmish (PVP skirm) per Elven week.

(COL) Jinzhou:

First officer rank organizes training sessions, oversees day-to-day running, and order of the guard. Able to promote ranks from Kanshou to Duizhu.

I.Requires minimum 2 Elven weeks to pass from last promotion.

II. Required to hold minimum 1 session siege weapon training or combat skirmish per Elven week.

(CPT) Duizhu:

Rank for those being vetted for officer training, assists in organization of Duifu assignment. Technically the first commissioned officer rank, though seen as an intermediary between the zhànshì and guān ranks. Able to promote from Xinbing to Duifu.

I. Requires at minimum 1 Elven week to pass from last promotion.

II. Required to hold minimum 1 session drill training (RP basic training) or combat skirmish per Elven week.

(SGT) Duifu:

Non-commissioned officer rank showing capability of leading a squad of 3-5 zhànshì.

I. Requires at minimum 3 Elven weeks registered citizenship.

II. Requires at minimum 1 Elven week to pass from last promotion.

III. Required to hold minimum 1 session of drill training per Elven week.

Kanshou:

First rank of a fully fledged guard expected to uphold regular guard duties and act as peacekeeper in the community.

I. Requires at least 1 Elven week training at the rank of Xinbing before promotion to Kanshou.

II. Must tend to at least one Elven day of gate duty per week.

Xinbing:

Basic entry recruitment rank for training.

I. No required prerequisite for enlistment other than citizenship qualified by the Ministry of Justice.

II. Requires attendance of 3 officer held trainings to be promoted.

III. Requires attendance of de-escalation training to be promoted.

Auxiliary:

These other ranks of the army may include lorekeepers and agents dedicated to the safekeeping of information.

I. While not always officially enlisted, Auxiliary must always report to YPA guān.

II. Auxiliary may not be required to wear YPA uniform on duty, but will still be required to follow full regulation protocol if it does not compromise their mission objective.
