THE DISBANDEMENT OF EBONWOOD

I, Amaesil Vuln’miruel, by the authority of Regent Veronna  Heial'mal Valmi’uhier of the Ebonwood, hereby declare that the Ebonwood and all Her territories and holdings are disbanded. The elves of Her realm are pardoned from their oaths and loyalties to the Ethereal Council and the Princep. Furthermore, all titles and claims given or asserted by all members of the Ebonwood are hereby revoked and dismantled in perpetuity. The land will be left vacant for any who wish to claim it and, so, inherit its doom.

To the elves who remain — return to your homelands. Defend your livelihoods elsewhere and walk amongst your kin once again. Aspects guide you all.

 The body of Minuvas, seen as gaunt and Ill had finished it's travels from the Ebonwood.

Onlookers who may have seen the procession would have noted the sickly look to the Elf, unsure if it was a corpse being escorted to the grave or a living descendant.  

The Ebonwood people, friends of Minuvas and adherants to the way of Malin led the great procession of Elves from the former Imperial territory where they lived. 

By Malin's Will the people suffered no assault or ambush, having to ferry across perilous water travel, and hostile foreign forests.  Traveling along paths used by the very people of Elvenesse that seemed intent to kill their  leader. Uruks roamed the wilderness, looking for Elysians - though no doubt would also have liked to have befouled the Elven people. 

Enduring the hardships of the road, the month long journey saw the Elves  had arrived finally.....

In Vortice. 

The great procession came to an end. The hiding, the scurrying, waiting for patrols to pass - they had arrived in Talon's port pleading with their Elven leader to take them in. 

The Benevolent Lenora , took them all in. Minuvas' body taken somewhere unknown. The refugees began to fill Vortice streets with anticipation of the future, fond remembrance of Ilandria, and as they were approaching half the year with no sign of Minuvas health improving. They now called for healers and doctors across the realm to come look at the Elf. Malin's flock would live in exile this day, but their eyes already looked to the horizon. 

To the former denizens of the Ebonwood — 

The news of your realm's disbandment was sudden. I write this short missive to achieve one purpose: to explain.

The Ebonwood was in great danger. Minuvas Melphestaus' self-anointment to "Speaker of Malin" soured the moods of elves across Almaris. In an attempt to silence him, assassins of Elvendom were sent to butcher my close friend. The rage I felt for this kinslaying was only surpassed by one other thing: duty. The Ebonwood cannot defend itself. When Oren rallied its banners, only two of us stood against the dwarves. At the conclusion of the Orenian Civil War, the woodlands would have garnered wrath and ire from both Oren and the other elven nations. Soon, the Ebonwood would be at war without an army willing to defend it or councilors willing to lead it.

And so, I disbanded it. You may think it cruel or unjustified, but the alternative was utter annihilation. I pray you all see that some day. For now, take pride in what once was; find peace in the lands beyond the Ebonwood. Aspects guide you all.

He who ‘Speaks’ for Malin (Part III)

[ An Elf hurriedly ran into the room, “Quick! Get everything…everything. The books, the artifacts…get it all”  the panic on the Elf was apparent as the healer tending to Minuvas dabbed a cool cloth on his “Wh…whats going on?”

“Didn’t you hear? They say that Frederick fellow won the war, and he’s coming to kill us all”

“Wait…w…why? What did we do…?”

“It doesn’t matter, you want to debate this while some White Rose freaks come here to murder us. Or some Fenn decides were not a part of their future -  or do you want to live!? We’ve gotta get out of here”

“Wait, what about Minuvas….should we bring the headband?”

“The bastard is dead, do you really think you’d want him to  live to see this anyway?”

“He’s not dead!” ……. “ No..I..suppose you are right”

They looked between each other, realizing they might have consigned the man to death “Okay no…go grab some folks who believe in him, his ways, get all of those books he wrote - we will lead the procession from the city with his body.” They looked at eachother,then ran their hands along Minuvas’ forehead “We know no King but Malin” and his body was taken from Imperial Lands, his regent Veronna escorting his body, leaving behind a place he had called home for over a century]

The Drifting had gone on again for some time. Once Minuvas had thought it a punishment, but now he had lost complete track of time. Whether he had been here for a few moments or all of eternity seemed irrelevant and unknown to him. For some time, the nothingness was maddening. But eventually….it became serenity and peace.

His consciousness traveled the cosmos of his mind, the endless void about him. He felt himself slip away, memories of who he was, where he was from, what he believed melted off his body. Like the melt of a snowman on an unexpectedly warm summer day, each drip of water is like a memory departing him.

But deep in his conscience was a core that was using all of what was left of him to hold himself together. From becoming nothing.

“En Guard!” The Dark Elf boy cried, the sword penetrating into Minuvas’ chest.

“Agh! You got me, its the end!” Minuvas grasped the wooden toy sword, making a dramatic sounding death in theatrical style. After a pause, Minuvas rose to give a speech “It was on this day that the conqueror showed his true colors, a tyrant! Oppressing the people!” He would continue for a few minutes, orating a lengthy monologue to the Dark Elf who mostly seemed uninterested.

An Older High Elf walked by them “Enough with the games you two….always with the speeches Minuvas, you and Hieran run along…go get some bread from the market, it will be dusk soon in Helena”

The image paused, blurring, 

Minuvas found himself looking at his child self and brother, looking and pondering. “I don’t remember this at all”.
 

Yet Minuvas was nothing but a thought. His physical body did not exist, only his conscious mind - looking onward at a century old memory.

“It was you” That ancient figure said in his low and lumbering powerful voice.

“Was?”

“I have remade you” The figure said, it's very words as he spoke and constructed Minuvas into reality before him now.

“Who am I now?” He said as he looked down at himself coming into existence, unsure of what he was any more. Just a thought, something that occupies some dark space of some strange universe somewhere?

“Who are you now?” The figure returned the question.

Frustration. Now he came fully into his form, remembering these conversations. His mind began to anchor around this frustration.

Without saying anything, as if already penetrated with in his mind 

“You do not approve? I have remade you as you see yourself. If you do not like what you see, it is you to blame”

“I …what? I didn’t say anything”

“You were almost ready. You still hold on. You speak less, but think the same” He told the stubborn High Elf

“Am I to be judged for what I keep to myself?” Protested Minuvas, proud of his restraint - he felt.

“The poison of the soul does not require the affirmation of your words to make it any more deadly. There is still arrogance. Divisiveness”

He waited some time, silently - a full day perhaps, drifting with Minuvas  before  the figure  added.

“What good is a voice, if it cannot speak its heart?”

“You continue to torment me, my King.”

“The ignorant learn through pain” It added

“I must be horribly ignorant” Minuvas said sarcastically

“So you say” He rumbled. “Do you know who you are yet?” it adds

“I am…Minuvas” The Elf added

A long hmm, as if thinking “You are ignorant, but less than before. You are still not ready”

And so came the nothingness once more. Embraced like an old friend, ah the comforting feeling of…being nothing…it wasn’t long before any doubts and frustrations he had melted once more away into the river of his mind.

[The people hoisted Minuvas’ body onto the wooden platform, the Elves hoisting his body out of the Ebonwood. The procession was unceremonial, conducted in the dead of night to avoid Human patrols - only whispers of where it was to be taken. There was no doubt many thought these Elves who had been the target of countless hate would scatter to the winds, but the Elves of the Ebonwood knew home is where their people are - not the land where it settles. There was nothing long or drawn out about it. There were no weeping Imperials to bid a citizen a farewell, most of them were dead. The hushed whispers of his escorts could not raise too loud lest they attracted the attention of roadside bandits - or worse -   How could it be? Minuvas wasn’t awake, his entire life had changed and he knew nothing of it.]

The head of the House is too ill to continue leading it. It is the best medical advice received thus far that Minuvas may soon depart the realm of the living. You are encouraged to say your farewells to him, the next opportunity to do so may be at the foot of a tombstone.’

Our Ebonwood

The Mali'Ame stood before Minuvas' door, knowing that when he awakes there will be great disappointment. The missive in her hands crumpled up from the tight grip she had on it, afraid it might disappear and the truth would never come out. Sighing deeply she puts a hand on the door, "May you forgive me, and see I did what I thought was best." Sending this out, she hoped that those who lived here would understand, even though she expected the disappointment.

My dearest Ebonwood, my people, my kin. Please know that this was the most difficult choice I have ever had to make, one weighing down on my heart with a great sense of loss. After discussions with many leaders, it was clear that Ebonwood will not survive. The Empire is in ruins, and it is not our responsibility to fight a war which is not our. I have not abandoned Ebonwood, for I will be sure all our people find peace elsewhere. Minuvas will wake once more, and we will rise from the ashes of a city which was doomed to fall. May you all understand, it was not easy to pick up that quill, to sign it all away when I am merely standing in for shoes too big for me. As the council has spoken, those two present had decided that it would be for the best. But that does not mean our community is gone, though we might not have land, or a specific place to call home; we will rise again and be stronger than ever. 

I will take care of Minuvas, the one who I owe my life to. Under close watch I will be sure that he awakes, that he comes once more to speak of Malin. To teach us the ways in which we are supposed to live. For Malin, would He have left us to perish on land which was out to destroy us? For the sake of our people, my people, I did what was best. For Minuvas' legacy is not over, neither is ours. Let it be said here, for all to read: Ebonwood will rise again, and with great faith we will come back stronger than ever. I have not abandoned you, I will presonally see to the relocation of each and every one of my people even if it is the last thing I do. 

May Malin give us His grace, may He give us a chance to rise once more in His name.

He who ‘Speaks’ for Malin (Part II)

[ “He’s as cold as a corpse.” the Elven healer holding Minuvas’ hand said
“Maybe he is one….I hear they’re making funeral preparations for him” remarked another who brought him new linens, and a cup of tea. 

“Bring that tea here into his mouth, the one that Luthriel said to make…and don’t say that! You would condemn the Elf in his own home? I’ve heard a rumor that if you speak ill of him, Malin himself will curse you” the other folded the linens and look over “You don’t actually believe that, do you? I mean, I like the guy and all,  he took us in when every other Elven place thought we were freaks or lessers” a long solem pause between them “I don’t know. I used to think he was just a nice Elf who was a little crazy, but now….who knows. Don't you just feel something changing around here?”

“Yeah, I do. A Civil War for the Humans, you know once they’re done killing themselves they’ll try to kill us” another long pause “If he lives, maybe…I dunno” the Elf threw a rag at the other “Stop with that if he lives! He will live, he must!”]

How long had he drifted in nothing. Three days? Three weeks? A month, it might as well have been eternity at this point. He could sense nothing, feel nothing, he had only awareness of his drifting - left contemplating his last words so long ago to what he presumed was his Father.

But after another month of this drifting, his eyes squinted suddenly - the darkness interrupted by a glorious sunrise over his face - and he felt once more. Warmth at first, then, the feeling of cool grass beneath his body. As if awaking from a dream, he rose once more in a field.

He was wearing nothing but a simple white garment. Another dream? He reached for his ears, they were still jagged and cut - a damn shitty dream, he thought.

This serenity ended when he saw a beautiful Elfess, in the woods, she was conjuring a great magic gate of marble - pulsing with a radiant light. Her very appearance was motherly, instantly drawing Minuvas to her like a moth to a flame. Many more of the pale, silver colored Elves followed soon, entering into this portal within- thousands into it!

“Breathtaking…” That ancient and powerful figure said, now sitting with one legged propped between the other next to Minuvas.

“Is this…the work of Larihei?”

“So you say…”

Such an obtuse answer, does nothing clear come from him. There was an awkward silence that followed them for a long time. Watching what occurred before them. Eventually Minuvas thought to prod the Elf’s primordial thoughts.

“Aren’t you mad at her, she betrayed you, disobeyed your commands…took your people away”

The Elf’s hue of his eyes changed once more when discussing Larihei “Do you anger at your infant child, Elf, when they stomp their feet and disobey you?”

Before he could ponder the answer to that question a great crash shook Minuvas from his feet. He was now to the rear of a ship which had just smashed into shallow shoals. Minuvas stumbled to gain his footing, the ancient figure with arms behind his back kept a perfect balance - his bare feet seemed to sway his body in rhythm with the waves, never betraying his stance.

Minuvas was drenched in the thundering rain and waves, choking on sea water - and hate. As if anger incarnate had swelled into his very mind.

Another Elfess reached for a weapon, raising it high “Kill them all! Take everything!” the other Elves on the ship roared, leaping from the vessel and slaughtering and plundering the coastal town.

 The rain and the lightning drenched the town with wails, and in a single crack of lightning, Minuvas was transported to a great throne room. The same Elfess was now in chains before that ancient figure, who stood no longer at his side, but in command of the room itself. Minuvas could not hear the words, but the ancient figure gave a commanding point of his finger into the distance and she was dragged away.

“One of his daughters left him, the other he sent away…to die by her own son’s hand” Minuvas remarked at the scene.

The figure’s voice rose in anger “You speak. But you rarely know. You are still ignorant.”

Minuvas pleaded “Tell me! Why do you torment me with this. Surely you are a demon, a shadow an agent of ibleese….I am being punished in some Valah conjured hell”

“So you say it is”

A deafening roar caused Minuvas to cover his ears. He turned around, transported to a new place. A fantastical dragon, not the great terror of ibleese, but a different one. The Dragon became a humanoid, and it embraced another bronze colored Elfess. The Earth swallowed the one who was a dragon.Tears filled the eyes of the bronzed elf.  The Bronzed Elf departed,bow in hand, none followed her.

“And the last of his daughters followed in his footsteps…leaving her people. His children,  Aheral, Ker…Ame”

The ancient figure responded, his language seemed older than existence but when he used the names for the subraces it was foreign, barely translating in Minuvas’ mind. The being itself struggled with the words, creation that had occurred beyond his power 

“You have seen, you have heard. Do you understand, have you listened?”

Minuvas knew each word he spoke was being measured, thinking carefully before he responded“I have seen ....arrogance, a thousand fold. Division. Pain”

A long silence “And who do you say that you are yet, Elf?”

“I am the Elven Prince Minuvas Melphestaus, speaker of Malin” He says defiantly

“You are still ignorant, unworthy. You do not yet know me as King”

Minuvas wailed into the darkness of the void. Spiraling into they very nothing once more. His body had become nothing, only his thoughts drifted in the cosmic beyond. Alone. Cold. Dark, left only with the feeling of “Unworthy” in his mind.

[The Healer looked him over “I’m not sure what else we can do. His condition isn’t improving. He shows the faintest signs of life, I’m not sure how much longer before he is no longer among the living....it is best we notify his relatives.”]

The Regent Malin’tir of the Ebonwood

The Mali’Ame stood in the throne room, not daring to take his seat. Her hands shook ever so slightly as she faced all those looking at her, if it was possible her heart would beat out of her chest. It had barely been a day since her dearest friend had fallen into his coma, beaten to the brink of death by those who he saw as allies. An image she would never be able to forget, something which would haunt her dreams for many years to come. 

I am in over my head, who do I think I am to stand in front of all these people? To tell them Minuvas is barely alive? And then to follow with me just taking over! This is insanity, I am delusional to even think for a moment I will be accepted as the Malin’tir. 

Her thoughts were racing through her mind, a whirlpool of emotions taking over her very being and threatening to drown her. If it had not been for Wynanya, Edvard and Tarathiel by her side; she would not have faced all those looking at her. Either way, this must be done. 

“I regret to inform you all, our dearest Minuvas has fallen into a coma. On the brink of death, yet still clinging onto life by a small thread. May we all appeal to Malin, ask of Him to bring our beloved llir back. A man who we all look up to, a man kind, understanding and strong. Someone who wishes to unite us all under Malin once more. 

Ebonwood is a place of hope, a place where we can all live freely and without any fear of being judged, without feeling like we are less. May Malin grant us this one blessing, our one wish to have Minuvas back. A man who speaks for Malin, teaches us of His ways, a man who deserves to live.”

Whether she wanted to or not, it was her duty to her Princeps to step up and show Ebonwood that nothing will break them.

He who ‘Speaks’ for Malin: Part I

[ Blood soaked the dark oaken table within the tree palace of Ebonwood. Minuvas' body had been bludgeoned, sliced, his head especially damaged. He had been stripped unceremoniously after his attack, like a mugged highway victim. Beads of sweat formed on his head, his body shook as his eyes rolled into his head, and foam dripped from the side of his mouth. Courtiers and healers poured in

"Everyone who doesn't know shite about medicine, get out!" yelled someone.

"A warm cloth! Hurry!. infection! I need clean cloths, more clean cloths...By Malin, there's blood everywhere"

Mourners wailed at the base of the tree palace. " Who!? Why!?" they cried.

Wondering if this was the end. A martyr for Malin. The Ebonwood had known no elf like Minuvas, and they wondered if all they would know now would be of his history. 

This was the reality occuring around Minuvas, yet he experienced none of it. He was in another reality…another place entirely]

Darkness. Drifting. Minuvas floated in his consciousness for days, alone, in pain…silent. Almost madenning. Then, it seemed when all light was finally to extinguish - he found himself in a tree palace, a balcony overlooking a horizon of forest, filled with Elves and their cities as far as he could see. He stood, confused, for some time before he spoke - not expecting noise to form from his thoughts as if his own conscientiousness had been reborn "Where am I.."he blurted out.

The voice that responded spoke in a tongue that was alien, ancient, and powerful. Reality itself seemed to come into being around the sounds that were uttered, contorting vibrations into literal creation as it said "You are in Malinor"

Shocked, surprised, yet not afraid. Minuvas realized he understood the Elf's language despite realizing he could not speak his tongue "What, how, Am I dead?"

"You say that you are."

A frustrating response, he thought.  It was then Minuvas realized his ability to rationalize and use logic were available fully to him. He outstretched his hands, like a newborn realizing the sensation of their own fingers before looking to thefl figure. 

"Are you Aengul? A Daemon? Is this some illusion, a simulacrum?"

The figure, he just realized, up until his point was entirely blurry. Only now did the Elf come fully into his focused  visage, sitting on a throne that stood thrice the size of Minuvas. Firm hands gripped the edges of the throne, peering down at the small Minuvas. A crown adorned the Elf's head, his light colored hair and lightly bronzed skin, the hues of his eyes now blue, he spoke

"What do you say that I am?"

"Are you my father? " Minuvas replied. 

The figure said in a low echo , "I am not your father, but I am your Father" and in his ancient and powerful tongue the words' meaning were clear. 

"I say than, that you are King alone" Minuvas proudly stated, expecting admiration for his response.

"So I am. Yet who are you?

"I am Minuvas Melphestaus, Aheral Princep of Ebonwood, Warden of the  Pale Aldemar"

The figure clicked his tongue "Your words are foreign. Speak plainly, Elf " 

He tried again "I am Minuvas Melphestaus"

Silence. 

"I speak for Malin" He added, finally.

"You speak for me?" The figure seemed to raise in a voice that might be taken for anger, rising from his throne, the hues in his eyes taking a darker tone "I was the first of the brothers, I have communed with spirits as old as the world. I conquered ibleese, fought the great devouring dragon and slew the spirits that would consume the Elven people" The figure seemed to return to a calm state, returning to sit.  Was this ..arrogance? Minuvas had witnessed. No sooner did Minuvas finish this thought did that ancestrally powerful voice rise once more 

"To what reason would I need you, to speak,  for me?" And now the Elf had become similar in stature to Minuvas, approaching him directly to stare him in his face. 

Minuvas was over his head. Whatever he was dealing with was a primordial, and powerful entity that possessed an intelligence and wit far surpassing his own. He could not help but look away in embarrassment. 

"You are afraid. Ashamed. This is the first time you are speechless" the figure grinned. 

"I am. I do not feel I am worthy"

"You are not. But I have chosen you"

"Why? Why me? You yourself seemed to cast doubt on the need for a speaker. I was raised by Humans. The Princes, many would see me dead." Minuvas would say as he paced about the room, clearly brought to a distraught state.

The figure snorted "A thousand crowns of a thousand Princes and Elven Kings will never amount to one gram of the purpose I have invested in you"

"I am persecuted, hunted" Minuvas claimed in exasperation "I cannot do this anymore. End me, if it be your will"

"You cast a mirror into the eyes of my children and you make them afraid. For you tell them of their arrogance and greed and they hear the truth. "

"Am I to die for the Truth?"

"If you must." He coldly responded. before adding "Have you cast a mirror to yourself, Princeps…..Warden….Aheral…How else do you divide your lineage from me, and claim yourself worthy to speak of me as King?"

The feeling of guilt, shame, arrogance now struck Minuvas and he was again cast into the driftless void of his mind. Return to nothingness. Alone in nothingness…… 

[We're losing him! Someone go get a damn Doctor, we're losing the Princeps!]

To our Kin and Lliran

It is with great sorrow that the Ethereal Council of Ebonwood announces the dire injury of His Serene Highness Minuvas Melphestaus.

While the Princeps and Saneyir is expected to recover in time, it has been decided by the majority of the Ethereal Council that Lady Veronna will stand in as Regent Malin’tir until the Princep’s recovery. Tetarch Wynanya Arvellon de Melphestaus, Lord Tarathiel Daemyar de Melphestaus and Artano Edvard Kervallen stand at her side to so fulfill the duties of the Saneyir and to act in the interests of the Ebonwood.

In the absence of our Patriarch, House Melphestaus also declares our support for the Council and Regent’s leadership, as we so believe is the wish of the Princeps and the will of Malin.

Until further determination, the Princep's Proclamation of Extremus stands. Our focus remains wholly on the Princeps' fullest recovery; the cause of his injuries and a full investigation into any involved party; and the safety and endurance of the Ebonwood and its people.

Ebonwood: Proclamation of Extremus

His Serene Highness,  Saneyir Minuvas Melphestaus, Mali, Speaker of Malin, Princeps of the Ebonwood, Warden of the Pale of Aldemar, makes the following statement in regards to the current situation in Oren.

To our Imperial Valah friends, the children of Horen of whom we have made friendship with. We know this must seem to you a crisis. In the past century, I have seen not one but four conflicts for the legal succession of the Imperial Crown. Two of which I have directly served at the pleasure of that Crown.  While it will offer no comfort to the suffering levies called to war, or the peasants and farmers who thought they had peace - now called back to armed conflict, I offer you two words of advice:  these conflicts are rarely 'civil' but in time, they will end.

We do not know the proclaimed Emperor Peter IV, nor his younger brother King Frederick I. I once deeply knew the Imperial Family, for many years, raising their children and mentoring and serving the household since the era of Peter the third. Princess Josephine Augusta provided me with an Imperial education unmatched in all of Almaris. The sovereign's  father Emperor Philip III honored the Mali people with a simple promise, pay the Imperial tax, defend the Imperial Crown, and the Mali people shall be safe and left alone. I intend to honor this arrangement with whoever sits on the throne. Yet these sovereigns are strangers to me.  The Elves, as a general rule, have no business involving themselves in the conflict between the fighting of the Imperial Household. We were proud to fight with the Empire against the Bortu who unjustly struck off the ears of our Mali brothers and sisters, but we have no business deciding Valah peerages and their leaders for the Humans of this Empire.

We have heard disparaging rumors that the younger Imperial Prince, now styled King Frederick I, and we hope these are but rumors, shall support factions that would seek to repress and destroy the Ebonwood - I would warn the Young King against such an action.I have not forgotten the betrayals against the Sons of Malin, my ancestors,a century ago - a betrayal I had believed I could forgive , yet I am glad I have not forgot. I would have no qualm turning to our cousins from Fenn, Haelun'or or Elvenesse to find a sovereign who would respect our people to avoid this butchery, and where I shall rally the Order of Malin against any leader who seeks to committ genocide against the Elves. I shall remember this betrayal long after your children are in the grave - if true.

Further, it is difficult to deny Imperial Law - Peter IV is the legal successor to the crown. Yet we already begin arrangements to meet with Frederick I and Peter IV respectively to determine the force of each-others claim, and dispel the rumors already being written to my palace. Not to determine who is justified for anyone other than the Elves. We encourage each Sovereign to meet us, and we shall measure their words carefully. I say to Emperor Peter IV and King Frederick I, do you come to reign as a terror over the Elven people or as friends as your ancestors before?

Our people made an agreement between Empress Anastasia I and Emperor Philip III, binding upon their legal successor. This legal succession is in dispute, and thus we must declare a state of emergency for the Ebonwood. 
 

I declare a state of extremus within the Imperial territory of “The Ebonwood”, and decree the following.

I. In order to preserve the continuity of government, the Ebonwood is now a Client-State-Protectorate of Oren, owing its fealty to the legal successor to the Imperial Crown as outlined in the Ebonwood agreement. Its status in this conflict, as of today, is NEUTRALITY. However, this decision is not final - I make this decision as Malin’s Will to ensure the safety of Elven people caught between Valah wars on each other.

II. The Ebonwood shall execute full domestic and foreign diplomatic autonomy, to include the use of its Paramilitary wing of the Order of Malin and with the ability to enter agreements with other nations as a Sovereign entity. 

III. I have recalled Colonel Hieran Melphestaus from his duty as Colonel of the Imperial Legion, for his safety, and he has accepted this request.

IV. All Elves of the Empire are directed to stand down from this conflict, until such time - if at all - a legal successor has been affirmed OR a genuine threat to Elves has been determined. As Every Emperor in Oren has been crowned by the Pontiff, to include Emperor Philip III and Empress Anastasia I to whom the Valah Church claimed anathema, we shall acknowledge this legitimate action as the historical and satisfactory precedent to affirm the legality of any claim.

V. The Order of Malin is directed to take up no arms. As Speaker for Malin, I declare at this time that there is no threat against Mali kind. For our adherents outside of the Empire, we encourage a partial mobilization and preparation to answer further summons should either sovereign decide to take action in spilling Elven blood.

VI. Ebonwood taxes shall be placed into a seperate account, to be paid in full, upon determination of the legal successor to the Orenian Crown. 

VII. As a client-state of Oren, in return for lands, it's full autonomy,  and the defensive guarantee of its sovereignty, Ebonwood shall pay it's rents, and fight to defend the Imperial realm when jeopardized by foreign invaders - for the legal sovereign of Oren. 

VIII. The Ebonwood, at this time, shall not raise arms or pledge fealty to either Sovereign - with our oath of service still in effect for the Imperial Crown , we acknowledge the holder of the Imperial Crown is in dispute. 

IX. The Ebonwood shall endeavor to meet with each Sovereign to determine the validity of their claim, and the threat to Elves in this Empire. 

X. We ask that each of the participants in this conflict do not fight in Ebonwood territory, though we will take refugees, and aid the sick, wounded, and suffering from either side.

XI. Violation of this recognition shall be seen as a threat to Elven kind, constituting a breaking of the Imperial oath to our people. We shall immediately declare for the other side of this conflict, and look to move our people into a place with a more benevolent Elven sovereign.

The Order of Malin strives at its heart for this very basic principle: We must return our king, Malin, by following his tenets so that he can usher once again an age of Elven power, authority, and tranquility among his people.
 

Malin’s children enjoyed a near millennia of peace and kinship under his Kingship. It was only after the hubris of Elven Princes did Malin’s realm fracture, adopting new names for their subraces and beliefs that have caused wars and animosity between his kind. A desire to return to this unified peace & power is at the heart of the way of Malin, the philosophical teaching of our King developed by ‘The Sons of Malin’. The way of Malin is a philosophy that spreads the pan-elven and unifying belief of oneness through Malin and our common elven ancestry. The  Order of Malin, led by its Saneyir, works on behalf of Malin alone. This global force of Elven warrior- monks shall owe no allegiance to any sovereign save Malin and his  Saneyir. They shall transcend the petty squabbles of the Elven Princes of its time - seeking to enforce Malin’s tranquility, and prevent desecration of Elven peoples and sites of cultural importance by other beings and Elves alike. They primarily seek to defend the interests of Malin and his teachings, which emanate from its Saneyir within the Temple of Malin. They shall seek to establish their Chapters across all of Elvendom, defending the Elven Leaders on behalf of Malin when those Anti-Mali forces seek to bring ruin upon them. In times of Inter-Elven conflict they shall remain neutral - unless an aggressor is so egregious against the Elven kind that they must be stopped, mustering the entirety of the Order to aid in the conflict.

The Brothers and Sisters of the Order of Malin accept any Half-Elf or Elf, of any nation, willing to devote their life to the cause of Malin as initiates. Elves younger than 30 cannot surpass the rank of Initiate. The basic requirements for enrollment as an initiate are;

• At least 18 years old

• Are an Elf or Half-Elf of any mix.

• Have taken no oaths that would prevent their ability to serve the order

• Capable of making an Oath of no less than 8 years.

Standard equipment for the Order is their 72 hours of field rations, medical equipment and survival gear. A quill and book are expected and inspected to be carried. In addition, each disciple carries on them a copy of works of “The Way of Malin”. Initiates wear a padded gambeson, and from disciple onward begin to wear more chain-mail armor. The ‘bronzing’ accent of armor designates seniority, with Eramites and Elders seeing the accents become more prominent. However, Soldiers may earn the right to bronze their uniforms if they have conducted spectacular deeds of courage on Malin’s behalf.

The order of Malin is structured as a paramilitary theocracy, but each member has a philosophical requirement to uphold and spread the teachings of Malin. is the core location of his teachings.

 

 THE TEMPLE OF MALIN

The Temple of Malin is the central location and repository for artifacts, knowledge, and worship dedicated to Malin. It is also the seat of The Saneyir and the conclaves that meet to determine Malin's Will.

 CHAPTERS

Chapters are the foundational unit to which all members of the Order belong. The first four chapters are all assigned to defend and teach within the core territory. Each Chapter, other than the fourth, is led by an Elder, and two Eramites. These chapters are named after legendary Elves from the time of Malinor that defended the King and Elven sovereignty. These ancestors shall serve as emulated figures of the ideals on how to serve Malin.

MISSIONARY CHAPTERS

 Additional Chapters may be started, operating from a small keep within another nation or settlements territory with their permission. These Chapters are expected to be self-sufficient for long periods without support from the core Chapters and are usually smaller, often consisting only of the Elder, their Eramites, and maybe a few disciples. Initiative is highly valued in placing their Elder.  Members of that Chapter are sworn to defend that nation in times of war unless decreed the war is a threat to Elven Kind. They must also defend themselves, and can expect no help from the local Sovereign unless promised. These Keeps serve as a place to train, meditate, and promote the way of Malin. No initiates may serve in a Missionary Chapter.  

AUXILIARIES

 The Auxiliaries are all assigned to the Auxiliary Chapter, and it is where all members of the Non-Militant Wing of the Order and Non-Elves are assigned. These individuals may believe in the goodness of the way of Malin but are otherwise unable to serve in the Order proper. They are led by a single Elven Eramite. Auxiliaries play an important role as they may have unique talents or abilities the Chapters might require. Auxiliaries are valuable members of the Order, providing numbers to an otherwise barren people. Can be called to be great scholars of Malin, though may never take up the more martial aspects of the Order. 

 INITIATES

Initiates are the fledgling adherents to the Way of Malin.They will spend their time under the tutelage of a Disciple, who will teach them both on combat and on His teachings. Initiates are not required to take an oath, and they generally hold no leadership within the Order. Initiates will spend many of their early years within the Temple of Malin preparing for their trials, being indoctrinated in the philosophy of Malin, and learning those skills that will save their lives and harden their mental resolve against false doctrines, and those who seek to divide the Elven people. All initiates are assigned to the Temple of Malin until they complete their trials, after which they may be assigned to a chapter abroad or remain in the Temple of Malin. An initiate must complete the following trials to become a Disciple, relating to the five instructions.

o The Ritual of Legacy (Half-Elves only)

All trials are supervised by Eramites, and conducted within the Temple of Malin. 

DISCIPLES

Disciples are the footmen of Malin and keepers of his legacy abroad. They are expected to take on 1-2 initiates, and now begin to spread His message, potentially serving as messengers of the Saneyir, and escorts of the Eramites and Elders.  Frequenting foreign Elven realms and returning to the Temple to take part in the great conclaves in determining his will. Disciples are expected to be well learned scholars of his philosophy, and capable fighters. Disciples may also specialize as the need requires, perhaps as quartermasters, relic keepers, or other specialty niches the Order or their local chapter requires. Disciples also enforce the law within the Temple of Malin, ensuring the domestic tranquility of the heart of his realm. Disciples are inducted fully into the order and take an oath brought fully into Malin’s teachings by the Saneyir. Disciples receive a discount on their tithes in Temple of Malin and are paid a stipend from this rank and beyond.

ERAMITES

Eramites are senior members of the Order who manage the basic operations they are tasked to accomplish. Eramites take on larger missions, usually of 2-3 disciples and some initiates, into highly contested territory and in combat. Malin scholars in their own right, they must be as capable to meet an Uruk in the field of battle as to defend Malin’s philosophy before a Mali’Thill.  They frequently give lectures on the teachings of Malin. They must also be responsible for the discipline of the Order itself, supervising trials, ensuring disciples are trained, and leading small forces. Eramites are granted voting privileges in the administration of the Order. Eramites may be called as emissaries or diplomats to foreign nations.

ELDERS

Elders are the Senior Brothers and Sisters of the Order, who have now taken lifetime Oaths to his philosophy. They conduct the majority of planning, both within the Temple of Malin and abroad. They are master scholars of The Way of Malin, fierce combatants, leaders, trainers and mentors. Elders lead a Chapter, crafting for their chapter an identity that they see fit. Elders strictly manage the security of the Saneyir and it is them that make up the Orders council of advisors to the Malonn’Elberun. In addition, Elders are considered minor Elven lords and they may stylize themselves with the moniker of their Chapter’s ancestry.

Example: Lord Minuvas “Tharsion” Melphestaus would be the title of the 1st Chapter’s Elder.

THE MALONN’ELBERUN

The Bronze Brother. They are the senior operations office and are responsible for the entirety of its operations and administration. They sit on the Ethereal Council of Temple of Malin and advise the Saneyir on matters that may require the Order to intervene, or to protect Malin’s interests. They constantly seek out recruits, and threats to Malin's realm, they also determine who shall be elevated to the rank of Elder. The bulk of the administrative duties of the Temple are delegated to the Malonn'Elberun for the day to day operations of the order, and ensuring the running of the Temple, its appointments, and the quasi-state like existence such as paying taxes and dealing with construction.

THE SANEYIR

The Saneyir is the senior teacher of the Order of Malin. As Political leader, he manages the Order of Malin with administration focused on the spreading of Malin’s Will in business, policy, education, and administration. The Saneyir is beholden to political neutrality and the defense of all Elven realms, often called on to speak for Elven realms that are the targets of violence of their own kind. As the Philosophical head of the Malinist Cult, he speaks directly of Malin’s Will, discerning it for all Chapters with the aid of the conclave. The Saneyir keeps and protects artifacts of Malin, and it is rumored Malin provides visions and clues to the Saneyir as to the future of the Elven people. The Saneyir is chosen from among the Elders, ensuring his Will is a continued succession elected by the scholarly followers of his teachings. The Saneyir no longer goes by any Elven subrace, not considering themselves Ame, Aheral, or Ker. They are simply "Mali". The Saneyir owes no allegiance to any Elven Prince, and is bound by Malin to not conspire or actively work against any of them. However, he actively seeks to advise and counsel those Elven Princes in an effort to lead them closer to creating Malin'or as it trulyw as.

VI. banih | RITUALS

The Order of Malin has a series of rituals that helps bring them closer to living as Malin did. Most of these rituals occur at each stage of an adherents promotion within the Order, as a rite of initiation - but some can be performed independently of rank.

Rite of Apotheosis 

This Ritual is rumored to make any Elf transcend their Ker, Ame, or Aheral appearance to look as close to an Elf in Malin’s time did. Damaged ears are restored, skin tone, eyes, and hair color all change.  Upon completion of the ritual, the Elf will never go by their subrace again. Half-Elves see the greatest physical changes in their body, the other descendant  portion of their blood-line greatly diminished. However, the ritual is not fully effective on Half-Elves, making them look more like their Elven Subrace than an Elf of the original era. The Saneyir is required to undergo this ritual.

Ritual of Legacy 

Half-Elves who wish to rise within the Order of Malin must undergo the Ritual of Legacy. During this rite, the Half-Elf will be fully meshed in Elven culture. They will make pilgrimages to multiple Elven realms, take up the Elven language, observe the many creeds of Malin. The Half-Elf will then spend two full nights within the Reclamation Hall, with the blessed way of Malin texts. They must endure the entire time without sleep, food, or water. Deeply immersing themselves in the Halls tomes, and artifacts of Elven history. Finally, they will stand before the Elders who shall determine if the Half-Elf has come to fully embrace their Mali heritage with a final test of their choosing. Should the Half-Elf complete these tests, they shall be deemed fully embraced of Malin's legacy. Though only the Rite of Apotheosis can purge them physically of their mixed heritage.

The Rite of ah’kina (Honorable or Sacred Death)

If any Elf of the Order feels they have descended into madness, no longer able to control their shattered minds from creeping trauma of centuries, they may appeal to the Council of Elders for the Rite of ah’kina. All attempts shall be made to try and heal the elf of this calamity, believing the loss of any immortal is to be avoided. If approved, the Elf shall be assigned a great challenge of considerable mortal danger and high value to the order . If they succeed, the Elf may find solace knowing that they have not lost all the faculties and are still contributing to the community,  earning the right to bronze their armor even if not an Officer of the Order and earning the special address of ‘mar’paronn’ (Venerable Elder). If they fail, their death is considered to be with great honor and they shall be remembered in the chapter rolls.

The Rite of Malin’s Peace

This Ritual is required for a Disciple to become an Eramite. It requires a pilgrimage to every Elven nation and important Elven historical site in Almaris. The Disciple must complete no less than a single task in three separate realms that contributes to the benefit of those people. There is no proscription as to the type of task, the Elf must show they are not so beguiling to choose a task of little effort, and not so foolish as to involve themselves in a task they cannot handle. 

The Rite of Malin’s Might

An Eramite who wishes to become an Elder must complete the Rite of Malin’s might. The task is simple, yet difficult. They must defeat another Elder of the Order in single combat. If the Elf is victorious, they must prove their philosophical strength by then defending a single argument on the way of Malin to the Saneyir or the Bronze Brother.

VII. laier| AUTHORITY

The Order acts with the authority of the Saneyir of Malin, and is granted the full jurisdiction to protect his realm and his teachings in the Temple of Malin. They may detain, and submit to the political protectors of Malin’s will those who violate his will while on Temple grounds.

Outside of The Temple of Malin, they are afforded those rights guaranteed to them by what sovereign leaders of Almaris allow. However, they shall at a minimum defend members of the order, professed adherents to his philosophy and any Elf in distress.

Chapters which are granted land or territory In another realm shall agree to defend that nation in times of war, but shall never raise arms against another chapter or other Elven nations unless authorized to do so by the Saneyir. They shall accept no positions of leadership or responsibility within that realm unless deemed by the Malonn'Eberun to be in the interests of advancing the way of Malin. 

An epicenter of magic, alchemy, and scholarly studying  has opened in Ebonwood 

It fills me with great satisfaction to announce that the Ilandrian Spire has finally completed its construction to the very careful and protective building requirements to ensure the free practice of the arcane, that promotes learning and has opened its doors to the public. Many years passed without scholars having a place to perform their duties, one that was safe and had a healthy environment, where knowledge was more important than politics or creeds. 

Today is that day, so I am proud to announce that the opening will be celebrated with a feast, where food and drink will be provided to the guests. In addition, any group of scholars who wish to assist in the performance of the Spire will be welcomed.

The ceremony will close with fireworks produced by some of our best scholars. I invite any and all academics, scholars, and Magi across all of Almaris to share in celebration with us in this new refuge. I encourage all of them to bring a few books that will be exchanged for one of the Spire, we will also promote exchange between the different groups, being that the first step for knowledge sharing.

 Residents of the Ebonwood are encouraged to use caution when traveling the Western Woods along the paths to the Spire. Sightings of blood filled caves and unknown beasts have been reported. The Spire of ilandria has been asked to investigate the monster dens and provide any information they might have on fantastical beasts in the area, a bounty has been placed on the quest board for the death or capture of any unusual creatures found in the woods.

There are no known reported attacks against residents at this time, but residents are encouraged to arm themselves.

sirame ito kae'leh, nae oroment, llir'Malinor. This past Elven Day the Uruk horde and their Valah friends yet again see fit to target the Elves of Ebonwood, and it's heart ilandria. The curse of violence rings in them - and it shall be met in a manner that Uruk understand best : Violence. We are no strangers to foreign invaders, and we no longer attempt to appeal their good reason to leave us alone. As Malin once desired to live content in his woods, long have we sought the same - only to be nipped at by biting fleas. 

Unable to breach our walls, we are surprised by the Orcs cunning in infiltrating the gates and underestimated their deception.  Whomever has taken advantage of our benevolence in having gained entry to our city shall be found, and given Malin's justice. 

To the Druii and Mali across Almaris who came to the aid of Ebonwood in saving our prescious tree palace, a grateful Ahernan and a hearty debt owed. 

To our lari'onn and mal'onn of Nevaehlen who heal the tree it is decreed that should the Ebonwood cross paths on the field of the Tripartite conflict, we shall spare conflict and make all attempt to negotiate Nevaehlen captors from Orenian prisons. We must fight fully against the Bortu who are led by a King who comes for the ears of Malin's kin. As Saneyir of Malin - I declare there shall be no conflict between Malin's people. 

To the Monarch and the Mali people of Vortice who extinguished the fire with the help of our ancestors. We affirm our fellowship with the Vortician people, and make offerings to the ancestors this eve. I use this opportunity to let the one known as Peralien Maelstrom know that she is to be summoned before the Ethereal Council of Ebonwood, to answer for her actions in the threatening of Malin's realm with the indiscriminate use of alchemical fire which threatened the Mali citizens and the Ker ancestor shrines of Vortice . At this time, until the completion of this investigation, she is stripped of Gwaithorship of Pinemaw which is to be passed to a Rayalia of Pinemaw. 

To the many Mali across Almaris who rallied to our city, regardless of national origin. Malin Lives! Let none say his people do not live in fellowship, casting aside their petty disputes for the betterment of all Elves. We shall come to call on these friendships soon, for the Uruks seem fit to make enemy with the realm of Elves - and it is pehaps time we answer their call with bronze.

The Ebonwood Feast

Welcoming the forthcoming spring of the Ebonwood

I am very excited to announce the first Ebonwood feast, which will be held in the base of the tree-palace in ilandria. This feast will honour and celebrate our achievements, our community and most of all, our stomachs. Food and drink will be readily available to all guests, as will games and prizes. Guests will be provided the chance to show off their archery skills in a friendly competition to see who will be crowned the ‘Champion of the String’. First, second and third will be rewarded with prizes of various types. I look forward to seeing everyone there!

• Barkeepers: Barkeepers are paid ⅓ of their drink sales, and ⅙ of their food sales.

• Cooks: Cooks are paid ⅓ of any of their food that is sold.

• Brew Masters: Brew Masters are paid half of yearly (OOC: Weekly) profit after taxes and payroll expenses. 

• Entertainers: While Entertainers are not outright employed by the Inn, should they provide their services long enough, or are well respected within the community, they will gain the ability to claim a yearly (OOC: Weekly) payment of 20 mina, with ability to earn more in the future.

A good sense of balance is one where both parties have some of what they want, and some of what they don’t. We shall not belabor this point other than to say we believe we have found a tentative balance. Where all of Mali kind may pursue their innate talents of magic and knowledge without harming the natural world. Such a balance requires constant monitoring, as we maintain that the Void does not require protection from Nature. We fully embrace and welcome Magi across all of Elvendom, to study in a way that enables practical scholarly pursuit without the great temptations and corruptions that gnaw at the edge of the void.

It is a joyful day for the Ebonwood!

On this day — the 9th of the Sun’s Smile, 69 SA — the Conclave of Ebonwood voted to amend the Balance Compromise. In its place, my Balance Law now resides:

In the chambers above the great hall, the leaders of the woodland voted unanimously to pass the law; however, votes were changed when the request to announce this as a unanimous decision was proposed. Some of my peers saw this as undue strife or bragging, but I see it as something much greater and stronger: unity.

We did this together. The sons and daughters of Malin — druid and mage alike — brought lasting, safe change to the woodland and found common ground beneath our feet. Every voice spoke; every voice agreed. It did not last long, but such is the way of politicians.

The future is brighter today. The natural world is protected and the mages are granted a new, safe path of practice. Ay'elame!

To Refine Silver: Malin’s Offer

sirame ito kae'leh, nae oroment, llir'Malinor. elCihi’Thilln, once stood as a veritable gem in the realm of Elfdom - a pinnacle achievement of the Mali’Aheral , highlighting the best qualities of the Malin’onn when they put their Father’s talents to their finest. Today this gem is tarnished in the blood of its own people, with no end near in sight. 

Recently, we had written to all of Malin’s realm to rejoice in the hope of a peaceful future for Elfkind - but we are reminded, so quickly, how often we mali err when we forget our Father's way. We recall the first great schism of the Aheral, and arguably the second great schism of all Mali kind,  ignited between Lomal and Larihei - in fierce contest over the very philosophical vision of the Mali'thill. A contest that involved schemes, the arcane, and deception of the highest order. We should not be surprised by the means of which the Silver City makes its Sovereigns; and we should not judge them for it - cunning, deception and intelligence have always been attributes of Malin’s children - Larihei’s flock especially. Larihei herself was given laurels many times over from our Father for these attributes - this is not meant as an insult, for such alacrity served Elfdom well in its war against Ibleese - and in the governing of Malin’s realm during our near millennia of peace under his Kingship.

The Sohaer Braxus had been universally condemned for his cruelty, and he was unceremoniously attacked for his accused crimes. At the onset of the war of ‘Silver and Snow’ the allies of Princess Ivarielle had shown restraint, and limited their violence to those who had merited it during war. Yet in victory, there has been an abundance of indiscriminate violence and little mercy. Kinslaying, as aheral butchers aheral in the streets. The legacy of Haelun’or is certainly one that has lacked humility,  for this they have paid a price many times over. As the saneyir for all of Malin’s Children, I shall be a voice that says it is time for this era of suffering to end. For I speak with concern for no one Elven creed or nation, but all of Malin’s realm and those within it.

Let me speak truth to power. The Silver Princedom does not command the will of the people of which it claims to lead. The Republic of Haelun’or does not have the military strength to press its own claims. This division of martial strength and the consent of the governed has resulted in kinslaying in the most extreme. These are not accusations; they are truths.

I offer the Republic and the Princedom to meet in the neutral realm of Ebonwood, and offer to arbitrate this dispute to an agreeable outcome to both parties. To send a delegation representing your leaders, your safety in our walls shall be guaranteed by the Ebonwood. We have no doubts that both sides can agree there is no more a neutral force in all of Elfdom than Ebonwood in this conflict, sharing in fellowship with Mali who claim either government as their own.

 We appeal for a cessation of hostilities between the Republicans and the Monarchists during these negotiations, should both sides agree.

Accept this offer, Malin’s children, blessed flock of Larihei - and let us bring the realm of Elves to a new era.

Further, we shall accept all political refugees of this conflict in the Ebonwood. However, any such refugees must take up an oath of political neutrality - promising to absolve themselves of the current conflict within Haelun’or.

On Unity & Malin’s Mantle

sirame ito kae'leh, nae oroment, llir'Malinor.  The Elven realm rejoices at the cessation of violence amongst Malin’s realm, with the end of the Thill and Fennec conflicts bringing what we hope to be an era of Mali prosperity. The ending of the spilling of Mali blood allows us to once again focus on those matters dear to the heart of every Elf - our industrious pursuit of bettering the Elven people.

Unity is uttered openly in many circles, both public and private. Yet what dialogues exist about unity are rather nebulous, and poorly formulated and dare we say - self serving. The great Elven mind is called to do more, to be greater. We must show the great intelligence our Father expects of us in the age to come.

It is therefore that I call all Elven scholars, philosophers, and adherents to the way of Malin to the Ebonwood, within the capital of ilandria, to begin the great debate on the Mantle of Malin - a transitory stage of Elven living that proceeds our King’s return. We shall first attempt to define what the Mantle of Malin is,  using the writings offered by a Mali’fenn entitled  ‘The Pursuit of Malin’s Mantle’ as penned by Aldred Tundrak as the basis for this discussion. We shall use the Princedom of Malinor and the Dominion of Malin as two examples of Malin’s Mantle and their successes and failures. As always, any Elf may cast aside their national and sub-racial status and talk as equals in our walls - all of Malin, in the pursuit of this knowledge. Community before the individual.

These debates and discussions shall be held yearly thereafter, addressing different topics related to Malin’s mantle-  with the hopes of offering a framework of this existence to the great Mali leaders of Almaris to pursue this noble cause.

Malin’s Revelations of Charity, Salt and Balance

sirame ito kae'leh, nae oroment, llir'Malinor.  A minor conclave of Ebonwood was summoned to discuss matters magical and charitable this past elven day. Many Elves from across Almaris and from the Ebonwood came to discuss matters in the heart of Malin’s hope. The Five instructions of Malin teach us of industry, community and temperance. Each of these instructions was on display as we discussed the use of voidal magic within the Ebonwood, the method of paying ones tithes, and the rising tide of the Almenodrim House of Kaeronin on Ebonwood shores.

Voidal magic and balancing the harm against nature is a difficult matter to discern Malin’s will. On one hand, we know that Malin was an avid defender and protector of nature - at home amongst the great many natural spirits of the world. It is also true that Larihei, one of Malin’s most favored daughters, use of the voidal magics is what may have driven her apart from her Father. The matter is therefore complex. Was it Larihei’s personal arrogance that drove her to disobey her Father or was it the void itself that cleaved her from the timeless wisdom of Malin? In this matter, Malin’s will is often undecided.

On the matter of tithes, we have seen the value of Malin’s labor - that there is value in exchanging goods. An industrious Mali works toward the promotion of their talents, and should find ways to compensate the community for that which they have given them. 

Lastly, the great Sea Elves of Almaris have long been land bound. Yet the great waterways and river mouths of the Ebonwood lay as entryways to the wide ocean. The Princedom of Aegrothond once let loose the great sails across the entirety of the seas, and with the dwindling number of these Elven Ships - so has Malin’s splendor also darkened. We would be pleased to see these events reversed.

Revelations of Malin by Conclave

oem. It is determined by conclave, that it is Malin's Will that the balance of the Ebonwood between the void and the natural world be maintained. The Ebonwood shall aid in the construction of the to be named  ‘Spire of ilandria’, which shall serve as a protected haven for the study and use of voidal magics and artifacts.  In time, a special set of laws similar to those that protect the ‘Preserve’ shall be drafted for the facility.  The spire shall seek to concentrate magical arts to maintain the balance of Ebonwood, minimizing its use unnecessarily. There shall also be afforded the construction of alchemy labs, and grants for research projects

It is determined by conclave that it is, Malin’s Will that the Ebonwood shall make a formal pledge of support to the Sea Elves of Almaris, affording them shoreline land and access to the seas so that they may live again with Malin’s joy. We shall continue our discussions with the Heads of the great Almenodrim Houses and welcome them as brothers and sisters of Malin - offering to support the funding of the construction of their settlements and shipyards.

Revelations of Malin by Self-Reflection

oem. I reflected deeply on the matter of tithes, and the recommendations of the conclave made to me in this regard. I thought on the instruction of industriousness, and consulted the written economic works of Malin within the Princedom of Nor’Asath. After this reflection, I determine it to be Malin’s Will that the Ebonwood shall accept bartered goods as valid payment for all services. Residents and merchants have two elven weeks to determine whether they shall continue to pay for their residencies with minas, or negotiate their rent in goods. Some residents shall be directed to pay with goods instead of minas, based on their profession. The Princep shall review each resident and begin this discussion with them shortly. Industriousness is essential to a community, to work the forge, man the walls, hunt and forage - and so we shall encourage the Malin’onn to continue to become bronze and avoid sloth in this era.

The Order of Malin

(Elven: Malin'naeri).

"Become Bronze"

Origins:

The Order of Malin reflects the many creeds and people of Malin - the many creeds of Malin - that take up arms to defend their home by becoming bronze. Many Elven cultures have influenced its organization, but as with all fi’Eldari institutions it draws heavily from The Sons of Malin and The Pale of Aldemar which serve as their cultural predecessors. 

Summary:

The Order of Malin is composed first of conscripted militia known as Initiates. All Mali residents must take up arms in defense of Malin’s people (see: Malin’s Revelation of Hope & Strength). All able bodied adult Mali of the Ebonwood are expected to rally in times of war and in defense against bandits and raiders.

Those that wish to make a full time life of expert Soldiering and who are of significant talent may be recruited to the Order of Malin. This is not a full-sized standing Army, but a small precision force meant for rapid raiding and defense operations most often in small scale teams known as ‘Glaives’. While all residents are obligated to become Initiates, only a selected few will be oathed as full brothers/sisters and fewer still allowed to join its officer corps.

Section I: INDUCTION

Once a resident has come of the age of 30, they will be conscripted into the Order of Malin and will receive initial training. They will draw their first set of military equipment. They will be taught how to operate gates, defend themselves and others, introduction to the law, basic wilderness survival, and work basic security functions of the city. It is imperative that every Mali be capable of defending themselves and the collective community. They are expected to wear their uniform when performing these functions. The good of many over the good of the individual. Individuals who show particular dedication and wish to be part of the full time standing military may be oathed into the Order of Malin. Initiates may be of any race.

Residents who wish to become an oathed Brother/Sister will undergo additional training and receive a special set of armor to identify them.  The Order of Malin are a collective of Mali under the direct command of the Princeps, they are expected to endure rigorous training that shall mold them into efficient, cunning, lethal units. This training regime will include: expeditions outside of Ebonwood lands, mock skirmishes, monster-hunting, sword mastery, archery training, navigation and mapping skills, and lectures on the way of Malin. Oathed members of the Order of Malin will be composed only of Mali and Half-Elves.

To climb the rank and file of the Order, one must first be identified by a current officer. Upon selection, they will undergo a series of trials upon which our ancestral Eldari once conducted and upon completion of said trials, the individual shall be inducted as an oathed member, and be given their set of armor.

Section II: OATH

All full time members of the Order will take an oath of loyalty to the defense of Malin’s teachings

“I, _________, do solemnly swear by the might of Malin, that I shall bear the weight of the mantle of elvendom and safeguard the legacy of Malin against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I shall become Bronze, defending and promoting the cause of Malin.   I will never falter in my duties and obligations as Eldari;  I will give my life in exchange for this unity and serenity; and that I will obey the command of the Princeps of Ebonwood and the Officers appointed to me so that order and justice will forever follow in the wake of the Eldari; this I swear and shall hold to my heart; that which is demanded of me shall be done, from now until the day of my release from this oath. I state unequivocally ‘There is no king but Malin’ ”

Section III: DECORUM

All members of the Order of Malin are expected to maintain a certain standard of excellence during their service. In observation of this, the decorum of them is loose but respectful. The Order is an organization of brother and sisterhood firstly, and titles of address are earned amongst each other.  It is one of the few institutions of the Ebonwood where rank and structure are more formalized; with expectations to address each other by rank that has been provenly earned by each brother and sister. 

Forms of address:

• Initiates are addressed as 'Initiate'

• The most common address amongst Blades regardless of rank is “ mal’onn/lari’onn” (common: Brother or Sister).

• “Karin/Ker’ayla, [rank]” suffices as an appropriate address to an officer.

• When departing from each others presence it is appropriate to state "Become Bronze".

• It is always appropriate to address anyone of any rank with “There is no king, but Malin”.

 Uniforms will be provided to each member of the Order, by rank. Uniforms must be worn at all times when on official duty.

Section IV: STRUCTURE

Below entails the structure and ranking of the Ebonwood Military:

Command

Okar'Elberun (Literal: Guardian of Bronze, More common: Bronze Captain, Shorthand: Elberun) : Appointed by the Princeps, seated on the Ethereal Council, the Elberun is tasked with the administration of all military forces, strategy, communication with foreign bodies, the war office, and the establishment training routines, and the general stewardship of the Ebonwood’s military faculties. He is ultimately responsible for enabling all Mali of the Ebonwood to ‘become bronze’, refining them into something greater than they are as individuals, defending the teachings of Malin.

Officer Corps

Glaive Leader: On approval by the Elberun, an individual may undergo training to become an officer themselves. Glaive leaders are capable of acting independently, executing missions under general guidance by the Elberun. Glaive Leaders are responsible for identifying talent for recruitment into the Order of Malin. Glaive leaders shall be salaried officers and given significant residential tithe discounts. Glaive leaders will be expected to lead glaives of 3 brothers/sisterswith limited guidance or instruction, often in dangerous situations and with little support. Each brother/sister beneath them is also their student, learning from them the art of this warfare style.

 

Soldier Ranks

Initiate: All residents of the Ebonwood who are over 30 years of age are conscripted into the Order of Malin, they will obey the commands of the Order. Each resident should provide their name and residence to the Order so that they may be summoned to the defense of the Ebonwood. In the absence of an oathed brother/sister, all Initiates are still required to defend themselves and their local property. When activated in times of war, they shall wear a basic militia uniform for use in battle. Any resident may be activated temporarily to conduct law enforcement or investigative issues as required by Ethereal Council.

 

Section V: DUTIES OF THE INITIATES (MILITIA)

           Below entails the duties of the Initiates of Malin (Militia)

I.  All able-bodied residents of the Ebonwood aged thirty and over are immediately conscripted into the militia. Requests for exemption from militia service must be taken up with the conclave, and are taken into consideration on a case-by-case basis.

II. All members of the militia of Ebonwood are under the direct command of the Elberun and his/her subordinate officers in all situations regarding defense or upholding the law. Should no commanding officers be present, then the highest-ranking government official present may issue orders.

III. Should a member of the militia witness an act of crime take place that does not put themselves or anyone else in immediate danger, they are to report it to the nearest oathed brother/sister or government official.

IV. Brothers/Sisters are obligated to defend the realm and rally others to the defense of the Ebonwood - Initiates who shirk this rally cry shall be shunned.

V. In the event of an attack on the Ebonwood by either bandits or a foreign army, all militia members are called to the defense of the Ebonwood.

VI. As representatives of the Ebonwood, all militia members are expected to act in a conduct that upholds the dignity and humility of Malin.

The Way of Malin Part II

The Five Instructions

Preface

sirame ito kae'leh, nae oroment, llir'Malinor. The ‘Way of Malin’ is the philosophical living that binds and unites all Elves across time. We are a people of many creeds, many nations, and many ideals - some wildly different than others. Yet there is one unifying principle that binds us all, our common ancestry through our Father Malin - to live as he did. The Five instructions were discovered by the Malin'onn. Now More than a century ago. The Instructions have served as a necessary guide to those who adhere to the philosophical teachings of Malin, and they remain vital to us as a people who wish to see our King returned.

A brief history lesson is in order before discussing the need for the instructions. After sealing away Ibleese with his brothers, the blessing of long life upon Malin’s flock was notably irreconcilable with Uruks of Krug, and the Bortu of Urguan - whose violence and greed respectively could not stand amongst the ethereal, tranquil, and enlightened Mali people. Bringing our people to the island of Malinor we lived as a homogenous and tranquil people for centuries - with Malin as our King we prospered, united by his way and our common bonds of kinship. Our troubles in this time were mostly exterior, the other descendant races wished to destabilize our realm for their own vain pursuits. We lived in connection with nature and had a close friendship with the Druii. It was said that Malin himself could commune with the aspects and lived harmoniously amongst the natural world despite not being a druii himself.

The downfall of our unity, our people, is the result of Malin’s children's personal vices and their latter inability to unite the entirety of Elfdom. It began with the disappearance of our Father as King. Malin certainly lives, but the reasons for his absence are made clear to us now: his people began to divert from his teachings and his Council of Princes became petty and inward focusing on their own ambitions. Larihei strikes the first great betrayal in Mali history, willingly diverging from Malin’s teachings in arrogance towards misguided perfection and calling themselves “High Elves”. A perfection, to this day, lined with the blood of the so called impure and 'lesser' Elves. Princess Veluluai would cause her people to be cursed, and require a blessing from another being - turning many of our people’s skin to ash. The flock of Veluluai noticeable changes came with cultural differences, and soon they too would leave the fold of Elfdom.

Shocked by the changes and behaviors of those around them, what would later become the Mali’ame, would retreat deep into their forests unable to resolve what has wounded our people. The Division of Malin’s flock would grow ten-fold during this time, whether by appearance or culture. Yet each of these people retain a fracture of Malin’s talent and as such their pursuits are not entirely invalidated. Many have sought, in their own ways, to enhance those talents given to them by their father. Yet what we are left with is partial truths, no one Elf Prince or one Elf subrace can truly transcend beyond their own near term pursuits. Regardless of the Elven nation where one might reside, each has only a fraction of the great wisdom of our Father. Are we therefore doomed to live in a perpetual state of conflict between us? Succumbing only to the conquests of our own people, or the oppression of the other descendants? This depression may, on its outset, seem a factual existence of Elven living…are we mali doomed to live separated by our own local tribalism?

The enthusiastic answer to this question is of course, no. Yet the way ahead is hardly simple. The only way to unify the Mali people, as we once lived in penultimate peace, is with Malin as King.  There is an intermediate stage of existence written about, known as the seizing of ‘The Mantle of Malin’ - pursued by Elven nations and people since the time of the Princedom of Malinor itself - yet the mantle must only prepare the way, for its true King. We know no King but Malin. We say enthusiastically;

Malin Lives!

Our Father, ever careful observer of his children from afar -  and only by living by his instructions - ‘The Five Instructions’ - might bring our Father to return to us. To reclaim not only his mantle, but his Kingship.

Until this time the instructions have been passed primarily in oral tradition; but we now publish them for the greater good of all of Elvendom.

“For Malin’s children shall revere him, above all else, and shall venerate him as their sole King and Prophet, as well as their progenitor, casting aside all idols and any false prophets.”

Malin’onn should strive to revere their Father. A great and powerful King, diplomat, wielder of powers, negotiator, leader and Father. This is not to say we cannot look to our ancestors and other powers to assist us, but Malin reigns dominant above them!

Community

“For Malin’s children shall act in fraternity to one another, and shall hold their brotherhood before any petty quarrels, organizing into communities in the cooperative interests of their fellowship.”

The Children of Malin should strive to live in brotherhood with eachother. Community before the individual always. This applies not only within their local realms, but amongst the Elven Princedoms. The needless waging of war between Elven Princes must come to an end, united at the same table of fraternity.

Humility

“For Malin’s children shall reject acts of boast and aggrandizement, as well as temporal entitlement and worldly politics, so as to both refrain from usurping the father and to restore the integrity of elvenkind through his vision.”

Of all of the flaws of Malin’s children; it is known that our people suffer greatly from arrogance. This causes many ancient Mali to confound their long lives as equitable to great wisdom. It causes great Princes to lose touch with the reality of their realms, and it is this arrogance that causes Malin’s children to violate his other teachings - pursuing their own greatness over their Fathers.

Temperance

“For Malin’s children shall temper themselves and refrain from fleshly desires such as greed, carousing and lust, maintaining an ascetic lifestyle, denying degeneracy and depravity so they might preserve their bodies made in his image.”

Malin’s children should not alter their bodies with degeneracy. The use of dark powers and the consultation of beings to inhabit an Elven body or mind is a flawed and dangerous premise. The Elven form is in their Father’s image, we should not seek to damage it. This includes the mingling of Mali blood with the other descendants.

Industry

“For Malin’s children shall be tireless in their industry, remaining perseverent and diligent always, considering all their virtuous pursuits an art whilst pledging to never remain idle or slothful.”

Malin’s children must constantly seek to better themselves. An immortal body did not lend itself to an immortal mind. Malin’s teachings reflect lessons learned by the Mali’ame of the Bronze Law, that the mind and the body must be fortified through a constant honing towards improvement.

The five instructions shall guide the course towards how all Mali should live their lives. To reject the Father is wholly unnatural to Mali, having only suffered fractures, wars, and disagreements between his people since the first betrayal of Larihei and the great splintering of his people since that time. Adherents to the ‘Way of Malin’ shall continue to strive for the growing bonds of kinship between all of Malin’s children

The Ebonwoond Principatus hereby summons the following Mali to judgment by Malin’s Will…

The aforementioned Mali have been charged with crimes against an Ethereal Councilor of the Ebonwood by attempting to assault them in their home.

 As all of the suspected individuals are Mali, they may request of four systems of redemption before Malin.

1. They may appeal directly to Lady Veronna Heial'mal Valmi'uhier, and accept her direct judgment. As an Ethereal Councilor, she may impose any punishment upon a Mali save death.

2. They may request trial by a public or private conclave. Elves from across Almaris may observe and advise the Ebonwood on the judgment and outcome of a public conclave. A private conclave will be limited only to residents of the Ebonwood. 

3. They may request trial before the ancestors within the Ker fighting pits, where each may individually accept a challenge from Lady Veronna, or her named champion, in a contest of strength before our Mali ancestors. Defeat shall result in judgment passed by Lady Veronna, save for death. Victory shall result in a full pardon within the Ebonwood.

4. They may request service in the Nameless Bronze,  a para-military organization where criminals may serve out penance, or Half-Elves may seek to walk the path towards Malin. The length of service is to be determined by the weight of the crime, by recommendation of the Ethereal Council.

These individuals have three Elven days to write to choose their form of judgment, and may be allowed to travel freely within the Ebonwood save for the Valmi’uhier clan halls until such time. Upon the sunset of the 3rd Elven day, they shall be banished from the Ebonwood and made wanted criminals and bounties placed upon their heads for capture.

We are not a petty people of grudges, we encourage them to face fair justice before their own kind and resolve this matter with justice.
