IT IS WITH GREAT SORROW That the House of Reinhold announces upon this day the passing of its Margravine and Matriarch, Lady Amelia Rhoswen Reinhold. For many years, the Margravine had fought with a slow-progressing illness which was held at bay by her personal physicians, and by her own admirable willpower. Lady Amelia continued to lead the house with sharp wit and diligence for many years while concealing her ill state from the public, and only in recent years was confined to the walls of Dùn Mòindamh as her condition declined. Her passing occurred on 15th of Sun’s Smile, as she sat at the piano which was beloved to her in life.

Assuming power shortly after the people of the Commonwealth arrived on Azura, Margravine Amelia’s reign was defined by her creativity, intelligence, and energy. She revitalized a family weary from the tragedies of Aevos, and made their name one well-known in the new capital of Riviènse. In a vital time of transition where many houses fail to adapt, Lady Amelia’s sharp mind pushed her family to even greater heights than those she had inherited. It is undoubtable that she left her household a greater place than when she found it, and for that, she shall be always honored

A ceremony shall be held to celebrate the late Margravine’s life and works at the keep of Dùn Mòindamh. All who knew her in life, or simply wish to honor her memory alongside the family, are welcome to attend.

Though Lady Amelia did not sign a formal writ of inheritance before her passing, her decision has long been known within the family, and is re-affirmed by her widow, Margravine-Consort Iris Reinhold, as well as her two other children. 

As the eldest daughter of the house, Lady Alma Therese has long exemplified all that her name stands for; Scientific curiosity, a love for the natural world, and a strong sense of justice. Her mind is as sharp as her mother’s, and her heart has made her well-known throughout the Commonwealth. Highly educated and well-trained, her skills both as an archer and a scholar have made her a paragon of her house, and she holds its traditions dearly. It is with utmost confidence and pride that she is henceforth named the sole Baroness of Raònoir, Viscountess of Stormont, Countess of Anairgrid, and Margravine of Abhmòine, Fifth Matriarch of the House of Reinhold.

I do not write this missive expecting any scrap of honour left in the parasitic shell of life you call a body. I instead write it to appeal to your bloodlust, your vile impulses, the suffering that sustains you. Many may read this, as I intend to spread it far and wide in the hopes of reaching you, but only a few will know the true subject of it. If you were one of the foul beasts who participated in the slaying of Sir Capric Reinhold of Anairgrid, I pen these next words directly to you.

I know you have killed my husband. I know you are either in possession of his body, or have disposed of it already. The rites of our family demand that he is laid to rest properly, and that his remains are not desecrated any further than they already have been by the likes of you. I will not deny him the honour he has earned and the peace which he deserves. I am aware too, that you will never release his body or the place of its burial freely.

And so I issue to you a challenge, which may entice only in that it promises you blood; Send to me the strongest and most capable of your order to face me in single combat. Armor and steel, no magic save for what may be already enscrolled upon your blades, no ambush or shadowed tricks. A single second may be brought to observe the duel is conducted with the honour you do not deserve. Should I claim victory, I will return to my family with my life and my husband’s body, or the location of his remains. Should you claim victory, my own life, blood, and body will be traded for his.

In either outcome, Capric Reinhold shall return home to be laid down amongst his forefathers. If you do not respond to this call within three Saint Days, know that I have other ways of locating you. Know that I am too a hunter. Know that when I find you, there shall be no thin shred of honour left within me either.

Fight like the man you are not, or be put down like the dog that you are.

Letters find their way to the halls of Tor’Urldar and Dun Moindamnh. They are crude parchment, yet the letters upon them are written with a steady, yet somehow rushed hand. 

Letter I - Dun Moindamnh

I have been captured by a group of Higher Vampyres; so far as I can tell, at least. They plan to ritually execute me within three days, and have heeded my last request to write out some letters. If you have this, then they trusted the first part of their agreement. At the same time, if you have this, I am almost definitely dead, unless I show up to confirm otherwise.

I have not been a very good grandfather, at least in my eyes. I put too much focus upon keeping our family safe and not enough on keeping us happy. My work often took me far from Petra for months at a time. I’m not writing to excuse myself, though. Hopefully, the servants will have received some packages containing items I wish to pass on. My body will likely not be returned to you, though. If I am reincarnated and you encounter my corpse, do not hesitate to strike it down.

Alma and Alford - I feel I have neglected you two the most, Alford perhaps more so than Alma. I so very wish I had more time to spend with you two, but the time I did manage to find imparts comfort upon me now. You two are House Reinhold’s future, and I am confident that either of you will lead the House well. 

Savannah - I spent the most time with you for training, and I did not pause to ask about your wellbeing beyond the physical. I will, of course, not be able to teach you magic, but Guildmaster Lothric did give his approval for you becoming a Scion, and as Sir Rowan has returned, you may be able to find a path with him. 

Caz - I fear that my death will not affect the state of things for the House very much because of how little time I spent with it. You handled everything I could not, even when some of those things were my duty as Count before abdication. I love you still, and always will, be it to the Hells or the Skies I go.

To the House Guardsmen - That black-armored fellow is still abroad. Strikes at night, and our most recent clash revealed that he’s learning to use chain-weapons much like how I did. If you would hunt him, change tactics every single time, for he can and will mimic them.

DUALITY IS AN IMPORTANT ASPECT of House Reinhold’s philosophy, as is the celebration of all growth. Day and night, summer and winter, brother and sister. Each time a Reinhold reaches the age of adulthood, they are given a chance to show themselves before the Commonwealth’s society as they enter into it. It is a time-honored tradition that the newest generation will be given a celebration in which they can show off their hard earned skills, their intelligence, and their individual strengths. It is a gift to the house to have two of its youngest members reaching the age of adulthood within the same year, and such an event can only be honored with an appropriately grand celebration.

Alma Therese and Alford Ainsley have both been a shining pride of their house even in their adolescent years, dedicating themselves with intense passion to both schooling and training. Lady Alma has had an eye for nature since her childhood, with great care for animal life, a fascination with flora, and a deep understanding of the balance needed for our environment to thrive. As a young woman, this has evolved into a natural skill for the art of hunting and tracking. The young Lady has also taken a great interest in the realms of society, politics, and history, studying all three with equal fervor. 

Lord Alford has grown into a young man of great fortitude and strength, working past a severe childhood injury in order to train into a skilled fighter. Experienced in both the blade and the bow, Alford too is dedicated to the Reinhold legacy of maintaining balance in both nature and society. A well-studied young man as well as a well-trained one, he has a passion for reading, writing, and architecture.

In line with family tradition, Lady Alma and Lord Alford have set a challenge for the guests of their joint debut, in line with their shared skills and interests. Each guest of the celebration, alongside the siblings, will be given a challenge of dexterity, speed, and tracking, shooting down faux-targets in an archery game designed to test the skills a true hunt demands. Afterwards, all will be invited into the grand dining hall of Dùn Mòindamh for a traditional Agnethe feast, complete with music and entertainment.

ITINERARY

➼ THE HUNTER’S CHALLENGE

In the lightly forested lands beside the keep of Dùn Mòindamh, both amateur and experienced bowmen will find themselves challenged by hidden targets and a limited quiver. The siblings Lady Alma and Lord Alford invite their guests to compete against them in a unique archery contest, where they will not have to aim just for targets propped upon the ground, but those tucked in the bushes and hanging in the trees. Guests will be grouped into small teams, and given limited time to both locate their assigned targets and set loose their arrows with accuracy. The scores of all members of a team will be added together, with the winning team being gifted a hundred and fifty mina prize.

➼ THE GRAND FEAST

Once the challenge has concluded, the celebration will move inside the keep where guests will be treated to a grand Agnethe meal. Venison, boar, haggis, and sweet oatcakes are only a few of the finely prepared dishes that will be offered, alongside aged whisky and wine. Music will be played throughout the night to entertain, and all will have a chance to mingle with the hosts, the debuting pair, and their fellow guests.

AFTER A REIGN OF 30 YEARS, Sir Capric Reinhold, Third Count of Anairgrid, and his Count-Consort, Cameron Harper, have accomplished much to honor. Together they guided their house successfully through the trials of war and exodus, from the stormy end of Aevos to the new shoes of Azuras. Under Sir Capric’s rule, House Reinhold saw growth and prosperity beyond even that of his predecessors. As Count he enhanced the military competence and standing of the house, as well as solidifying many cultural traditions. He began a strong relationship between the house and the Order of Helwyr, which shall no doubt continue for generations to come, working in tandem to rid the lands of the Commonwealth of vile revenants. 

As the Reinhold patriarch now grows in age, with his legacy solidified, he has chosen to lay down his mantle and abdicate the title of Count of Anairgrid, turning his focus fully upon his mission of banishing dark forces from this world. 

By his word it is his eldest daughter, Amelia Rhoswen Reinhold, who shall take that title forth. Lady Amelia Rhoswen has been prepared for her inheritance for over a decade, highly educated in the matters of diplomacy, law, history, and leadership. She has not only shown her intelligence and shrewd mind, but also her kindness, and her strong moral character to the rest of her family. Her work in the taverns of both Vallagne and Riviense have made her a familiar face within Petra’s metropolis, her sharp wit making an impression on all who meet her. There is no doubt that her experience and steadfast sense of duty shall lead House Reinhold into an even brighter, more prosperous future.

And so, with the publishing of this missive, it is decreed that Amelia Rhoswen Reinhold shall henceforth be known as the sole Baroness of Raònoir, Viscountess of Stormont, and Countess of Anairgrid, Fourth Head of the House of Reinhold.

In celebration of both Sir Capric’s abdication, Countess Amelia’s ascension, and the recently passed hundred-year anniversary of the house, a Centennial Ball shall be hosted in the family’s keep of Dùn Mòindamh to mark the occasion. All people of the Commonwealth and greater Idunia shall be welcome to roam the grounds of the keep, drinking and dining freely.

ITINERARY

➼ THE STAG MELEE

To begin the festivities, a hand-to-hand combat tournament shall be held in Dùn Mòindamh’s training grounds, where fighters may compete to prove their raw strength and prowess. [PVP] Spectators may watch the contest, or socialize and familiarize themselves with the grounds during this time. At the conclusion of the tourney, the winner will be awarded a hundred mina prize. To ensure relative brevity, the number of competitors will be capped at eight. Interested competitors may send a letter to Cameron Reinhold ahead of the tourney, though signups will also be welcomed at the event if the cap is not reached.

➼ THE MOUNTAINEER RACE

After the winner of the tourney is declared, a more lighthearted challenge will take place on the nearby mountainside, introduced by the Countess Amelia. Guests are encouraged to bring their strongest and hardiest horses, and those who choose to participate will set off in a race to the top of the mountain, using their horses to climb the steep slopes to a marked finish line. The first to reach the peak shall be gifted a set of high-quality horse armor for their steed. [Diamond Horse Armor]

➼ THE CENTENNIAL DANCE

At the conclusion of the race, all guests will be summoned to the ballroom for drinking, dancing, and music. Attendees are to be invited to a traditional Agnethe circle dance, which in and of itself may be a test of endurance for those who choose to take on the challenge. All are encouraged to mingle with their fellow guests, and enjoy the night.

FOR A CENTURY, the House of Reinhold has lived and grown within the Petran Commonwealth. Through war and peace, independence and union, a family which originated from a gaggle of lowborn scholars and artists has expanded into a house of local repute, with a determination to revive the fading Agnethe culture from which it came. First raised to nobility in the year of 95 Atstana de Regne Petrère, the year of this document’s publishing marks the hundredth year since that first title was received from Queen Catherine I. There should be no more fitting time to lay down a formal record of the house’s culture, traditions, and trade, so that it may be referenced for another century to come.

Built on foundations of academic pursuit, political integrity, and militant honor, members of the House of Reinhold tend to value curiosity and sharp-mindedness in all things. Historically, many within have found work in all branches of Petran society as politicians, architects, courtiers, and knights. However, there lies between most a common thread of scholarly pursuit, a cultural love of knowledge and the worldly sciences. The natural world is seen as both something to be studied and honored, and the hunt is viewed as both a trade and a duty, taking up a significant role in Reinhold’s cultural identity. Studies of alchemy and the runic arts are seen as useful paths to these ends, though they are travelled with utmost caution and wariness, and a knowledge of the dangerous roads which can branch from them. For there is nothing a Reinhold despises more than that which opposes the natural world; The dark, the revenant, and the unnatural.

LINEAGE AND SUCCESSION

To an outsider, lineage in the House of Reinhold is one of its most unusual and non-traditional elements. For several generations after its founding, out of what seemed to be repeated coincidence, the Patriarchs and Matriarchs of the house found themselves unable or unwanting to create an heir of their own blood. For each generation of Count or Countess, the head of house chose to instead ward several children as their own, eventually adopting them as full-blooded members of the family in accordance with Petran law. What began as a way to navigate around limitations developed into a cultural disregard for blood relation within the house, and a more intense emphasis on unity through tradition, ideals, and familial love. It is considered not only usual, but common for a child not to be born from his mother, or for a grandfather to share no blood with his granddaughter. 

With a lack of care for blood relation, naturally there instead arise traditions which keep clear the true line of Reinhold. First and foremost of these is what is referred to simply as ‘First Hunt’, a private and close-kept tradition hosted for the youngest generation of the house once most or all have reached young adulthood. The first hunt undertaken by a Reinhold is considered a highly important affair only to be witnessed by immediate family, and the completion of it signals that those young members are ready to act as adult representatives of the house, its spirit, and its ideals. An adult Reinhold who has not yet completed their first hunt may still carry the name, but is not considered as being of the primary line, regardless of birth. A Reinhold who has completed their hunt will often carry a trophy of it at all times, such as a pelt, claw, or tooth.

Alongside this more private ceremony, a public celebration is held for each child individually when they come of age, usually around the age of eighteen or nineteen. These debuts into society are built to highlight the young man or woman’s skills, and to emphasize what role they desire to take in the public eye. It is tradition that the debuting Reinhold will set a challenge of their own designing for their guests, either of physical prowess or mental acuity. This is both another way of displaying what the young Reinhold has learned throughout their schooling, and to foster an environment of friendly competition. 

In a family where station is so heavily decided by merit, it is no surprise that the House of Reinhold follows the rule of Renatian Succession, where the heir of the house is chosen from any of the eligible children rather than being determined by order of birth. In fact, the House of Reinhold traditionally does not announce an heir until all, or almost all, of the youngest generation has reached adulthood. Though highly unusual, this gives much time for the head of house to consider the temperaments, skills, and desires of each eligible child. In the case of a Count or Countess passing on before an heir may be chosen, it is typical for the head of house to preemptively assign either their consort or an eligible sibling to assume their duties instead.

Though blood relation may not be held as overly important within Reinhold, that does not mean common traits cannot be seen, especially with the family’s effort to unite some of the Agnethe diaspora through its warding and adoption of Agnethe-descended children who have lost their birth families. Many members of House Reinhold show features associated with the Almaris native clans, such as pale, cool-toned skin and freckles. Light brown, dark brown, or auburn hair of either curly or wavy appearance is another common trait within the Agnethe members, alongside brown or green eyes, and a taller average height between them.

Notably there is also the line of Reinhold à Lucien, a branch of the family which finds its roots instead in the Southeron diaspora, specifically those who have integrated into Canonist feudal society over the past several centuries. In appearance, this line tends towards dark skin, tightly curled black or auburn hair, and dark eyes.

The appearances of those within the family tend to be quite varied, most notably between these two lines. However, where members may differ in hair, skin, and eye color, they can still be easily identified by other aspects of their appearance. As one example, it is not at all uncommon for the men of Reinhold to wear their hair long, as both men and women are known to sport elaborate, braided hairstyles. Well-kept, long, and clean hair is seen as a highly important aspect of one’s appearance within the family, and it’s a common form of familial affection to assist a sibling or child with brushing, braiding, or otherwise caring for their hair.

Indeed, this is not simply for the sake of appearance, as the different braids worn by members of the house can have varied meanings. Children wear simple three-strand braids, and no more than two of them at a time, while adults who have undertaken their hunt may wear up to four or five. Four-strand braids are reserved for the head of household and their consort. Colored ribbons are often utilized as accessories, while full hair coverings such as scarves and veils are very rarely seen, as covering one’s braids is a counterintuitive act.

Many tells of House Reinhold’s Highland origins can be seen in their clothing, though some of the traditional thick cottons and wools have been traded for lighter fabrics in favor of the Commonwealth’s more varied climate. Most clothing is still heavily layered however, featuring vests, cloaks, furs, and hunting coats in excess. There tends to be a distinct difference between a Reinhold’s outerwear and social wear, though the presence of a fur from one’s own hunt is considered acceptable for both. It is to be noted that only a fur one has hunted and prepared themself is thought of as proper to wear, as bearing a fur upon one’s shoulders is seen as a declaration of both duty and prowess. To wear a fur hunted by another, unless it was given as a gift, is viewed as distasteful. 

Outerwear refers to what clothing is typically worn on hunts, during travel, or for the purpose of hands-on research. These clothes tend to feature even more heavy layers, long coats and cloaks, as well as darker, more natural tones. This may be coupled with light pieces of armor, such as chainmail or gambeson. When it comes to physical work in either martial or scholarly pursuits, it is not uncommon for women to opt for a pair of pants similarly to the men. 

Social wear refers to what clothing might be worn about the town, or at public family events. This tends to have slightly less layers and lighter colors, often featuring a vest or light jacket over a collared shirt. Detailed embroidery and displays of the family tartan are common to see, as well as a practical combination of skirt and buttoned blouse for many women. 

MARRIAGES AND FUNERALS

Marriages and unions are considered as much a cause for celebration in House Reinhold as in any other family, though they have been notably treated as a less elaborate, more intimate affairs compared to social debuts and other extravagant celebrations. A bit ironically, the same could be said for how the House of Reinhold treats its funerals. 

In a traditional wedding or union, those to be wed will each bring to the altar two short lengths of colored rope. The colors are usually determined by the engaged pair in whatever manner they wish, though if it is a union of two houses often the shades will be chosen to reflect the two families. As the Reinhold and their betrothed recite their vows, they will slowly begin to braid their pieces together into a single, four-part length of rope. Though sometimes a couple will opt for rings as well, the joining braid is considered a more important and potent symbol of marriage within the Reinholds. Wed couples will hang the braid over the doorway of their home or room, a way of symbolizing their joined household, and intertwined lives. 

Great emphasis is placed on family bonds within Reinhold unions. It is expected for both families of the engaged couple to spend time getting to know each other, to become familiar with each other’s traditions, and to send care for each other when in need. Similarly, both members of the engaged pair are expected to treat the other’s family as their own and care for them as if it were their own, barring any circumstance where one’s family is estranged. Most weddings and unions are celebrated primarily between the two families and any invited friends, and are often made to be simple, lighthearted occasions.

A Reinhold funeral is a similarly humble occasion, though surrounded by notable superstitions and a great number of possible taboos. The chiefest of these is the body of the deceased, and who can come into contact with it. If a Reinhold dies on the battlefield, during a hunt, or otherwise while away from home, retrieving the body becomes a great priority for the family at large, Once the mortal remains are safely home, only immediate family are allowed to even lay eyes upon them. A private cremation ceremony is to be held with only the family present. For anyone besides the immediate family to come in contact with the uncremated body is an extreme taboo, as there is a great paranoia within the house surrounding revenants, ghosts, and any dark powers which can disturb the natural slumber of the dead. To even request to see the deceased’s body as someone outside the family is seen as highly suspicious and offensive.

After the cremation of the body is finished, a public funeral is typically held. These events mostly serve as a time of reflection and remembrance for the living, and as a way to receive a formal blessing for the dead, easing their way to the Seven Skies. It is encouraged for those who knew the deceased to speak among each other and share stories, immortalizing those who have passed on in words. The ashes of the deceased are scattered, as keeping them would be considered inviting malicious tampering. It is a strong belief within Reinhold that solace can be found in knowing those who have passed on rest within the Skies, and that erasing any physical remains is the highest way of honoring their peace, ensuring they will not be disturbed. Tombs and memorials are built in remembrance to the dead, but no remains are ever interned within.

COMMERCE AND TRADE

House Reinhold has found success in various fields of trade over the years, though the source of its current fortune is indisputably its standing as the largest producer of paper goods in the Commonwealth. Much of its inventory of literature can be seen at the family’s primary storefront, Solstice Books in the Petran capital of Riviènse. The printing, copying, and artisanal binding of books are trades which the Reinholds have come to pride themselves on, and while the house has always hired a number of skilled authors, printmakers and bookbinders to assist in production, several members of the family themselves have also chosen to carry on the traditional methods of printing and bookbinding established by Reinhold’s founders. The house prides itself on an ever-growing collection of volumes which it sells copies of, both to individual buyers and to institutions such as libraries, museums, and schools. 

Books aren’t the only paperworks House Reinhold is known for, as it also briefly produced a local newspaper and assists in the printing of official government missives. Besides selling individual books in its shops, Solstice Books sells large shipments to institutions such as libraries, museums, and schools both inside and outside Idunia. As a result of this trade, Reinhold is a large purchaser of paper, ink, and printing blocks. The family is known to sponsor and fund the careers of authors and bookbinders which it finds promising, in exchange for selling their works. 

The secondary trade House Reinhold is known for is its production of alcohol, specifically a smoky, well-aged whisky known as Caithian Scotch. Reinhold serves as the main whisky supplier for the Commonwealth, though the family has also recently begun funding local winemakers and brewers during the time in which it has stewarded Petra’s tavern. At the time of this document’s writing, multiple members of the family continue to be involved in supporting the tavern’s operations, making it almost a secondary family business in recent years.

Finally there are the oldest trades of House Reinhold, which is its production of enchanted items and customized weapons. Though it is not the largest producer of weaponry in the Commonwealth, that honor going surely to House Theonus, the family prides itself on its aptitude with slayersteel and aurum. Smithing is another trade, similar to bookbinding, which is carried on personally by several members of the house. Meanwhile, though items of magical attunement are sold by the family, clients tend to be chosen individually and sparingly.

WEAPONRY AND WARFARE

Weaponry used by members of House Reinhold tends to be multi-purpose, as much of it will be utilized less often in direct combat, and more often on hunts, scouting missions, or wilderness expeditions. Axes can sport spikes or hooks to double as makeshift climbing picks, for one example. This is one of only a few common traits, as for both the members of House Reinhold and their armsmen, the weapons wielded can vary greatly from lightweight hunting spears to heavy Agnethe claymores. Influence from the Helwyr guild upon the house has also introduced the use of chain weapons, such as flails and metal whips. Only recently has a ‘uniform’ weapon been tentatively established between Reinhold armsmen, in the form of a combination seax-bowie knife, though this is mostly used for utilitarian purposes. 

It is at range that Reinhold’s levies are at their strongest, with most of these forces being primarily huntsmen. Both members of the family and their guard are trained rigorously in archery, as it is not only seen as a necessary skill for battle, but a nigh-sacred tradition within the house. Heavy crossbows or smaller recurve bows are the ranged weapons of choice for these mobile hunters. Runic spellcasters can often be found within Reinhold’s forces, typically alongside archers within a ranged group. These licensed wizards are trained to work alongside martial fighters, with precise uses of magic that aim to control a battlefield rather than adding to its chaos. 

This mix of archers, spellcasters, and versatile lightweight fighters means that the armsmen of Reinhold are particularly suited for asymmetrical warfare, often prioritizing flanking and shock troop tactics over large, heavily armored defenses. Medium and half-plate armor is more commonly seen instead of full-plate armor, as being able to quickly adjust position and strategy is necessary in order to make these tactics work. That said, House Reinhold has standardized a uniform for full-plate and gambeson armor, as well as the usual half-plate. Spellcasters often opt for the lighter gambeson, while some noble warriors choose to take to the field in full plate.

MYTHOLOGY AND SUPERSTITION

House Reinhold is home to a wealth of mythology and legends, most of which finds its roots in the original Agnethe culture, or what of it has not been lost through centuries of scarcity. Much of these tales and beliefs can be traced back to the native pagans of Almaris, though over decades of being passed through the families of Canonist converts who travelled away from the homeland, aspects of the stories have evolved naturally to fit the Canonist perspective, laws, and morals. One interesting example of this is the tale of Èibhlin and Sorcha, a classic Agnethe children’s story about a princess who cleverly escapes the schemes of her envious mother. As it is told within House Reinhold, the Princess Sorcha is aided throughout the tale by the voice of St. Arianne, who speaks to her through the winds of the forest. It is St. Arianne who advises the pious Sorcha on how to outwit the hunters her mother sends after her, and who teaches Sorcha’s handmaiden how to wake her from a deep, cursed sleep at the end of the story.

However, recent study of Agnethe oral legends shows signs that in earlier versions of the tale, St. Arianne was not originally present, and may have taken the place of some other mythic figure. Regardless, the version of Èibhlin and Sorcha which is known to the Canonist Agnethe of today is one that has been treasured by generations of House Reinhold children.

It is no surprise that St. Arianne was incorporated into this tale, as she has long been a saint of great importance for many Canonist Agnethe, including those of House Reinhold. Alongside those of St. Rhosyn, idols and symbols of St. Arianne make frequent appearances in homes and holds that the family inhabits. One of these symbols takes the form of antlers, as many Reinholds believe that hanging the cleaned antlers of hunted game over a doorway invokes the protection of St. Arianne, and wards off ill will. As the patron saint of archers and forests, she is often invoked before hunts in order to steady the hands of the bowmen, and guide the feet of the trackers. 

It’s generally not unusual for worship and the hunt to be combined in this manner, as young Reinholds who are preparing to undertake their first hunt will spend much of the day beforehand in prayer, humbling themself to God’s guidance. Within the house, hunting is seen as far more than a means to an end. It is a trade and skill that is intertwined with every aspect of life, including faith. 

As an extension of this, there are several hunting practices that the family generally regards as inviting ill will. Beyond simply being seen as against tradition, they border on the taboo. ‘Waste’ is one of them, which is the act of killing an animal for only one part, such as the pelt, and leaving the rest behind. The pelt, meat, fat, and bones of slain game are all put to use in various ways, and leaving too much of these valuable resources behind is seen as distasteful. This particular tradition may be a holdout from the days before House Reinhold’s nobility and wealth. Contrary to what one may think given how important hunts are to the house, hunting for the sake of sport alone is also seen as taboo. Though the house has hosted some sporting hunts in the past, they have typically doubled with other goals, such as culling an overpopulation. The family focuses primarily on hunting aggressive beasts that threaten their lands, or invasive animals which target livestock. 

These traditions speak to a greater respect for the natural world, which doubles as a deep suspicion of anything seen as opposing the natural order, such as spirits and the revenant dead. The house goes to great lengths to ward itself from these foul creatures, and even non-combatant members of the family are educated on how to detect and dispatch them. This paranoia has been compounded by several ill encounters with revenant forces in the family’s past. Though all creatures of the dark are reviled by the hunters of House Reinhold, it is those who reject the natural order of death which earn the most fear and ire. As such, these revenants often show up tales and myths as antagonists, slain by the clever heroes- A notable instance of this is the dread warrior Deadmund, who is a recurring figure in much of Petran mythology at large.

It is not only fearful creatures that appear in Reinhold’s Agnethe mythology however, but helpful and kindly ones as well. Chiefest of these is the Cròin-Lagan, or The River Serpent. This more recent mythic figure first appeared in oral storytelling between the Petran Agnethe of Aevos, though the full tale was eventually put to paper formally by Norellie Reinhold. Legend says that this oversized serpent dwelled in the River Petra, protecting the people of Vallagne from pirates and other threats which sailed up the river. In the tale the creature is misunderstood as a monster, but shows its benevolence and kindness, saving a young girl from harm. The Cròin-Lagan is a particularly beloved myth amongst House Reinhold, especially amongst its children. 

Other beasts of Agnethe legend include the scalefolk, a race of aquatic, shapeshifting creatures which were once believed to dwell in the Memory Pool beneath the Aldtree. Curiously, descriptions of these creatures bear some resemblance to the Shuul, though it’s unknown why they would be associated with such a small, inland body of water if this was the case.

Though there is much to catalogue of House Reinhold’s past, it is inarguable that its most interesting chapters still lie in the future. It is the hope of all members of the house that in another hundred years, there will be twice as much to write down. A centennial celebration is to be planned within the following Saint Weeks, where all may share in the revelry of this landmark, and a grand announcement shall be made regarding the house’s future.

“Celebrated in early summer, la Lavandrêv- Lavender Day- is an unofficial holiday which has come around in recognition of the actions of late Pontiff Caius I and late Queen Catherine I, who respectively permitted the holding of civil union ceremonies in all Canon nations, and created a standard for legally recognized civil unions within the Commonwealth of the Petra. This was a move widely celebrated by the people of the Commonwealth, allowing couples of the same gender who were not previously recognized as legal families to gain that recognition, with such rights as allowing to be seen as each other’s official next-of-kin. Because of this, the yearly anniversary of the decision is often observed with good cheer by those who were most affected by it. 

Though the origin of the name ‘Lavender Day’ is disputed, it perhaps comes from the fact that the color purple, or lavender, has been sometimes associated with same-gender couplings. Regardless, la Lavandrêve is celebrated almost exclusively in the region of Val de Lagne, usually in the form of tavern gatherings or large dinners between friends. A sign that someone is celebrating the day might be shown in the existence of lavender blooms on their clothing, either pinned in the lapel of a shirt, woven into hair, or some other form of adornment.”

AS THE SEASON OF SUMMER Begins to reach its crest, a number of Petrans from different classes and creeds prepare for the celebration of la Lavandrêv. Never a large or formal holiday, it has all the same been a valued anniversary within the lands of the Commonwealth, marking the beginning of a tide of change. Friends, family, and lovers use the occasion to spend needed time together, to bring together a larger community of shared experience, and to show appreciation for the actions of Saint Caius and Queen Catherine all those many years ago. Breaking bread with friends and strangers alike, and dressing in a manner bright and jubilant are two of the traditions that have recurred most frequently through all variations of this celebration.

This year, House Reinhold wishes to extend the invitation of la Lavandrêv across all Aevos, to any who wish to partake and celebrate. Whether one was personally affected by laws of Civil Union or not, all may come to enjoy the community and cheer of an occasion that has long held deep importance to the members of this house. The gardens of Manor Caithian will be opened with food aplenty, and all visiting revelers are encouraged to don bright colors, especially shades of violet and lavender.

ITINERARY

➼ THE FEAST OF MANY

A large buffet will be arranged just outside the garden walls, and though House Reinhold will provide food and drink for all to enjoy, it is also encouraged for guests to bring their own drinks and dishes to contribute to the table. Meals from all different cultures and regions are encouraged, with the hope that each guest will get to experience something they’ve never eaten before, and that each cook and brewer will be able to share their unique tastes with others.

➼ SUMMER BLOSSOMS

Inside the garden, an array of flowerbeds will be available for guests to pick from, alongside cards that explain the meanings of each bloom within the famed language of flowers. These flowers can be arranged into a meaningful bouquet, either for the guest to keep or gift to another. 

➼ A CONTEST OF FABRICS

During the celebrations, guests will have a chance to participate in a ‘best dressed’ contest for a first place reward of a hundred mina, a second place reward of fifty mina, or a third place reward of twenty mina. Judges from House Reinhold will choose the victors based on color and aesthetics, and all are encouraged to show off the most vibrant items of their wardrobe.

HOUSE REINHOLD has always found much reason to celebrate when a child of Anairgrid reaches the age of majority, and watching young Amelia Rhoswen grow into her own has been no different. From a young age, Lady Amelia has shown great interest in her schooling, particularly excelling in the subjects of language, history, and political research. Much of her time has been spent watching the political developments of the Commonwealth in recent years, and learning the land she came to call home only six years ago. She has developed a sharp wit and a keen eye, two skills she intends to use to make her mark upon Petran society as a woman.

In celebration of her nineteenth birthday, Lady Amelia shall make her official debut into Petran society with a unique game of her own devising- One that will test both her own cleverness and reasoning, and that of the attendees. All of the Commonwealth, and the greater realm of Numendil, are invited to participate in this grand game of mystery and deduction. After it has concluded, the celebrations will continue on with drink and dance. There is no doubt that by the end of the night, the wit and personality of the debutante will make an impression on all who come to meet her.
 

ITINERARY

➼ WINE IN THE GARDEN

As attendees begin to arrive, tasting tables of drinks and light food will be served in the front garden of Manor Caithian. Guests will be encouraged to socialize, meet with the debutante, and make themselves comfortable as the celebration begins.

➼ THE CAITHIAN MURDER MYSTERY

Once all guests have arrived and settled in the gardens, they will be issued a dire task; To solve the faux-murder of Count Capric Reinhold. Those guests who choose to participate in this game will be split into groups of two or three, and sent to seek out staged clues around the manor and its surroundings. These teams of investigators must solve puzzles, explore the manor, and use their own powers of deduction to figure out the mystery before anyone else does. The winning team will receive a prize of 150 mina for their efforts.

➼ DANCING IN THE BALLROOM

Once the main event of the evening has concluded, all attendees will be invited to spend the rest of their evening in Manor Caithian within its ballroom, enjoying a quartet of strings and more light food and drink. Those who wish to explore the manor’s renovated library will also be welcome to venture to the upper floors to do so.

With deepest sorrow, the County of Anairgrid shall here officially announce the passing of Lords Wilford and Atticus Reinhold, founders of the House of Reinhold. After two long, intertwined lives, and a storied legacy, the Lords passed away peacefully upon the morning of Sigismund's End the 20th, 171 Atstana de Regne Petrère. 

Atticus and Wilford spent the greater portion of their lives forging a legacy that will not soon be forgotten. Even more importantly, they spent it touching the lives of many around them, both within and outside the Commonwealth. They were known as teachers, mentors, friends, and family to more than can be numbered.

To celebrate the life and legacy of these two men, the House of Reinhold invites not just the Commonwealth, but any who knew them in life to an ash ceremony within the city of Vallagne. After a small sermon by Bishop Godfrey in the Abbey of Saint Edmund, the procession will move to the bridge over the River Petra, where the family of the deceased will scatter their ashes into the river below.

After the ceremony, those in attendance will be invited to a celebration of life within Manor Caithian and its surrounding gardens. Friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances alike are welcome to trade stories, eat, drink, and celebrate the memory of these two men as they would have wanted- In good spirits, appreciating all those who have passed and those who still remain.

With all the great changes taking place in the Commonwealth, and across the world, we must accept that it is not in the wizened minds of the past that we will find the shape of our future. The house of Reinhold has always believed that it is in the dreams of the youth that new ideas are forged, paths created, and bright tomorrows are carved. In times such as these, it is to our children we must turn, their minds unclouded by nostalgia and looking ever-forward. 

With the changing of the tides, so too will we adapt. As Countess Adelyn Isla retreats to care for her health, having left behind a long and treasured legacy, it is her chosen heir who will take her place. 

Capric Reinhold was adopted to the family at a young age, quickly proving himself as sharp-witted, brave, and steadfastly loyal. Despite struggles in his youth, he overcame each and every challenge, and completed his rite of passage in the Ailmere at the age of nineteen. He has served the Commonwealth for years as a soldier of the Swords of Saint Emma, and there is no doubt that his ambition and experience will lead the house of Reinhold into a brighter tomorrow.

IT IS CAUSE FOR GREAT CELEBRATION When any young woman or man reaches the age of majority, taking the step out from their childhood and into society at large, placing their mark on the lands of their loyalty. So too is this event celebrated in the house of Reinhold, and so too will it be celebrated for the Taigh’s youngest as her eighteenth year quickly approaches.

Lady Norellie Catriona has long spent her childhood intent upon her schooling, learning under tutors of sciences and mathematics, growing adept in her penmanship and abilities of research. The young Lady Norellie will now take these skills into her societal debut, seeking to mingle with the people of the Commonwealth from all Cantons and walks of life as she prepares to enter the world as a working woman.

AS A RESULT OF A longtime fascination and love for Petrine mythology, Lady Norellie has chosen to center her debut around the tales of the Cròin-Lagan, or River Serpent, which is fabled to roam along the River Petra and the Blanchette Basin. The celebrations will take place along the bank of the Blanchette, where the riverside will be lit up in luminescent colors. Guests are encouraged, though not required, to dress in shades of blue and green to accompany the theme.

ITINERARY

➼ A TEST OF WITS

As is traditional for every young Reinhold when they come of age, the festivities will start with a challenge chosen by the young housemember. It is the choice of Norellie Catriona that her trial for the party guests will be a test of intelligence, an exciting match of trivia on topics such as Petrine history, culture, and mythology. 

➼ BOAT JOUSTING

Following the debutante’s challenge will be a traditional bout of Petrine Boat Jousting, where guests will be provided with canoes and long, hooked sticks in the place of horses and lances. The goal of the boat joust is to flip the canoes of your opponents, sending them into the water, and to be the last one standing. Participation can be solo, or in teams.

➼ GRAND BUFFET

After the games are complete, guests will be welcome to pick through a themed buffet of seafood, sugar pearls, and other treats specially chosen by the debutante and her mother. All will be encouraged to mingle throughout the enchanting Blanchette Basin, enjoying nature’s scenery, greeting the debutante, and making connections throughout the Commonwealth.

TO THE PEOPLE OF THE COMMONWEALTH,

As the house of Reinhold becomes host to its third generation, it is seen as only fitting for the growing household to step beyond its first holdings, and into something new. Upon its establishment under Wilford and Atticus Reinhold in 95 ARP, the house of Reinhold was given a parcel of land within the city of Vallagne by Queen Catherine, with the intention that they would continue to work closely with the city's residents to ensure its success. After more than fifty years of residing within the capital city, necessity and growth have led Taigh Reinhold, with the blessing of Therin I, to establish the new holdings of Manor Caithian upon the Northeast road of Val de Lagne. 
 

Taigh Reinhold pledges itself to continue its support of the capital and its people, starting by inviting all the people of Vallagne and the greater Commonwealth to partake in a gala and garden party within the newly completed manor. 
This event will celebrate not just the completion of Manor Caithian, but the eighteenth birthday and coming-of-age of Capric Reinhold, eldest of three siblings. Originally taken in as a ward, Capric was adopted as a full-fledged member of the house at a young age, and has since proven utmost strength and dedication- Being both diligent in his studies, and disciplined in his military training under the Swords of Saint Emma. Taigh Reinhold holds great pride in his accomplishments thus far, as he moves forth into adulthood.

ITINERARY 

➼ AXE THROWING

As is tradition for children of Taigh Reinhold when they come of age, the celebration shall begin with a contest of either strength, dexterity, or cunning, chosen by the young housemember. Selected by Capric Reinhold, an axe-holding competition will be first held outside the gates of Manor Caithian. Guests will be invited to test their accuracy and speed, points being rewarded based on how precisely the provided hatchets are thrown, rather than strength.

➼ BLIND PORTRAITURE 

The party will then move to the garden courtyard, where tea will be served and easels will be provided for the attendees to practice their artistic skills. All will be invited to draw straws for a game, where each guest will be assigned another person at random, and will paint their subject to the best of their ability. Upon the conclusion of the time set, guests will exchange their completed painting with their assigned subject, and receive a portrait of themselves in turn.

➼ WINE TASTING 

The festivities will conclude inside, where guests will be encouraged to mingle in the ballroom, enjoy a selection of fine river wines and music, and explore to their hearts’ content. Wine flights will contain a selection from each of the various wine regions in the Commonwealth, including a small map identifying each region and the wine that originates from it.

As the Countess of Anairgrid takes on the mantle of leadership from her fathers, she does not do so alone. For years, Annette Alexandra von Theonus and Adelyn Isla Reinhold have served as each other’s unmoving pillars of support, close confidants through times of prosperity, and times of turmoil. As friends from childhood, Annette and Adelyn have watched each other grow, prosper, fail, explore, and change. They have stood together through all challenges, and weathered all odds. Their journeys in life are undeniably bound.

The celebration shall take place within the grounds of the historical Vissingren Castle, and shall follow closely with Agnethe tradition, tying together the histories and bonds of both families. In the forty years since the founding of the Barony of Raònoir, Lords Wilford and Atticus Reinhold have led their family in tandem. Originally gifted under the reign of Queen Catherine I, and continued under the reign of Queen Adalia I, their primary goal has been to create a stable foundation for the future generations of this still-young Petran house. To secure a starting point that their children, and grandchildren, may continue to build higher and higher upon.
