✷ FOUNDATION OF THE BLADES OF MALIN

✷ By decree of el’Sirame with the full assent of the Elder Council, heed this, all peoples of Aelwen:

As war rages on, the council must raise a military force proper to protect ourselves from our foes, whether they await us on the field of battle or lurk within the halls of the Sanctum. Thus, we create the Blades of Malin, to act as our state military and harken to the Elder of Blades, a position upon our council yet fulfilled.

✷ RANK STRUCTURE

✷ The following ranks are the formal hierarchy within the Blades of Malin, which all Aelwen citizenry must adhere to.

Okarir’sil - Commander: The Commanders of the Blades shall act as advisors to the Elder of Blades, ensuring that all operations within the Blades run smoothly and without error. Commanders may organize various parties of Blades, be they temporary or permanent, for specific tasks. Commanders must enlist a Captain, two Veterans, three Blades, with Recruits assigned as the Commander sees fit.

Anniler’sil - Captain: The Officers spearhead various operations, patrols, and movements on the battlefield, embodying the voice of the Commanders and Elder as needed. Often, the Captains have the flexibility to pursue goals set by higher ranks, so long as there is assurance in the completion of the desired goal.

Diraar - Veteran: The Veterans are the most seasoned and proven Blades, with their ascension in rank being additional proof. Their tenure, while important, is not the only thing that will raise them higher in the military hierarchy. These stalwart servants of Aelwen must use their experience and skills to mentor the newer combatants. Their duty ensures both efficiency and camaraderie among the lower ranks.

Sil’malin - Blade: The Blades, as the namesake of the military, make up the bulk of the structure and fighting force. They are rank-and-file soldiers, entrusted to guard the Sanctum from all dangers, near and far, that threaten the fair city.

Evarir - Recruit: The Recruits are citizens of Aelwen who wish to join the Blades. They sit at the lowest rank, initiated into the military proper once they prove themselves capable in war and honor alike.

✷ THE CULTURE OF THE BLADES

✷ On Service and Glory

Within the Blades of Malin, service is the highest devotion to their home and faith. For a Sil’malin to put their life on the line and defend the Sanctum or boldly confront darkness, in the name of kin and country, is sacred in itself. It is reverence for the hearth and ahe’Malin. In this understanding, glory is proof of their devotion and sacrifice, too. Sil’malin must be proud of their service and rewarded for their bravery. When their service meets recognition and completion, Blades become eternally respected members of Aelwen’s society in life and death. Retired Sil’malin themselves are free to act as they see fit, likely to become members of council or civil government thanks to their valor.

On Honor and Discipline

Glory is honor; great respect and distinction rooted in good actions. For this reason, the Sil’malins hold firmly to discipline and integrity to weed out those who would sully the hearth and faith of Aelwen. No Sil’malin may claim great achievement unearned, or boast beyond the truth. No Sil’malin may conceal their service out of false humility, for their role is vital and a source of virtue. All Sil’malins must know obedience, of their commanders and themselves, for restraint is a mighty tool. Strength is not an instrument of cruelty, but righteousness.

Alongside their restraints and strengths, a Sil’malin must demonstrate their care. They must care for their superiors, peers, and especially their own equipment. Sil’malins must maintain their manners, armor, and arms. The soldiers of Aelwen represent both its force and the state itself.

The Rite of Ascension

When an Evarir is worthy to take the mantle of Sil’malin, their promotion is a public ceremony. The Rite of Ascension takes place before the gates of the Sanctum, so that the people of Aelwen may witness and recognize another guardian among the halls. At dusk, as the night readies its advance, the Evarir approaches the gate, both unmasked and otherwise unarmed. Their blade, instead of at their waist, remains in their grasp and pointed downward. Before the gate, the Evarir kneels and faces the people of Aelwen, signifying their pledge to the people. A Diraar and Okarir’sil stand behind the Evarir, both masked, yet the Diraar wields the Blades of Malin’s banner and another helm. Clearly, the Evarir recites the Code of Brotherhood unto the citizenry. Upon completion, the Okarir’sil steps forth and declares:

“Rise, and let Aelwen see your strength.”

At these words, the Evarir rises to their feet before the people. The Diraar present then comes up behind the Evarir, placing the additional helm upon the Evarir’s head and then handing them the banner. The Okarir’sil asks the Evarir to sheathe their blade thereafter, only allowed to unsheathe it to defend Aelwen, its Prince, and its people.

The Code of Brotherhood

“Stand in honor. Hold in discipline. Advance in fraternity.”

The Sil’malin hold three central virtues: Honor. Discipline. Fraternity.

Honor demands truth and integrity in word and action. A Sil’malin does not lie to kin, does not abandon post, and does not stain their service with cruelty or corruption. Their name must be clean, for it carries the trust of the State.

Discipline requires mastery over impulse and obedience to lawful commands. A Sil’malin shall not be ruled by fear, rage, or pride. They must be governed by restraint; disorder within the self is weakness.

Fraternity binds the Sil’malins to one another. No Sil’malin stands alone in battle, nor in burden. The strength of the Sil’malins lies in unity. To forsake a fellow Sil’malin without cause is a grievous failing. 

Together, these virtues form the foundation of the Order.

It has become necessary to decree clarity regarding the nature of the Mori’quessir, for confusion breeds either hatred or presumption. Both are disorders of the mind, and both lead to a breach of harmony. Therefore, this ruling is set into record so that the people of Aelan Haelun’or may speak precisely and judge lawfully.

What are the Mori’quessir, and what is their standing among the Children of Malin?

It must first be established that likeness does not constitute lineage.

To be an elf is to be bound by an ancestral braid that leads back all the way to ahe’Malin, to bear the obligations that proceed from His origin, and to be formed under the covenantal burden of the evarn’sae. The elven peoples do not merely live beneath the law, for our identity is made up by it.

In contrast, the Mori are not bound to ahe’Malin, and thus are not part of the Elven braid. They are Fae.

They are creations of an Aspect, formed in the shape of elves but not from the blood of Malin. Their likeness is but a garment. Thus, it is impermissible under the eyes of Acaelan to name them “elves,” even as shorthand, because shorthand collapses categories, and collapsed categories become the seed of unlawful claims. They are not to be counted among the Mali’ame, Mali’aheral, Alder Elf, and especially not the Mali’ker.

It must also be noted: it is equally impermissible to call them “corrupted elves,” for corruption implies deviation from a rightful origin. The Mori are not deviated elves; they are not elves in origin. They are what they were made to be: fae creatures, spidered in nature and in form, separate from our kind.

If they are not Descendatns, why do they resemble the Mali, and what does likeness mean in law and faith?

In el’taynuel, resemblance is common, but essence is rare.

All creation has patterns, and they can reappear like motifs in a woven cloth. The deer and the elk share form, and yet the elk is not the deer. The river and the sea share water, and yet the sea is not the river. So too may beings share shape without sharing covenant.

The Mori resemble the Mali because they were formed in a world already marked by elven patterning. The elven shape is a known and powerful image: that of capable hands, of upstanding character, speech, craft, and of social order. A being fashioned for will, cunning, and community may be cast into an elven silhouette because that silhouette fits the function intended. This is not unprecedented in creation. Many beings are suited to their ends by the forms they are given.

HOWEVER the law does not bind the silhouette.

THEREFORE, likeness carries no automatic inheritance. The Mori are not granted automatic claims to elven rites, no right to elven lineage-recognition, no seat among elven councils, and no entitlement to be treated as kin. These rights must be earned. It also does not grant automatic suspicion, for that must be earned by action and not assigned by appearance. The Mori may be feared by memory, but they must be judged by their individual deed.

✷ CIVIL APPLICATION OF THIS ANNILERN

Because the Mori are fae, and because the Sanctum has long admitted fae creatures under law when they are not hostile to harmony, it is ruled that Mori may reside within Aelwen under conditions of peace.
 

Therefore, a Mori may:

✷ Dwell within the realm, in designated and lawful settlement.

✷ Own property and hold title to such property as any resident may.

✷ Enter contracts, conduct trade, and seek civil remedy in disputes.

✷ Travel the roads of Aelan Haelun’or, subject to the same restrictions placed upon residents.

✷ Be protected by the realm’s law against unlawful harm.

However, a Mori may not:

✷ Gain automatic citizenship under the law of ancestry.

✷ Have a pathway to citizenship through ordinary means.

While anyone can live in Aelan Haelun’or as a resident, citizenship is a part of our identity, lawmaking, defense and sacred obligation.

Therefore, because the Mori are NOT elves, citizenship cannot be granted by mere dwelling, nor by time, or marriage, nor purchase. Instead, the only lawful pathways are those that prove loyalty through sacrifice.

✷ I. Military Service

A Mori may gain citizenship by honorable service in the defense of Aelwen & Haelun’or.

Such service must be:

• Verified by command authority.
• Held at least until they reach the rank of Sil’malin.
• Concluded without dishonor.
• Ratified by the Crown and entered into public record.

✷ II. Singular Mori Sponsorship

A Mori who has gained citizenship through military service may sponsor one (1) Mori individual.

This sponsorship exists because the realm recognizes that trust may be transmitted through proven loyalty, but only in narrow measure, so it cannot be abused or multiplied into an unearned class of automatic citizens.

Therefore:

• Sponsorship is singular
• Sponsorship is binding
• The sponsor bears civic responsibility for the sponsored for eight years.
• Misconduct by the sponsor may imperil both parties’ standing.

Mori’quessir who are found in violation of this program or gravely violate the law will be returned to the Eternal Forest.

✦ DOMICILES are defined as property in which people live. Commodities and flats fall under similar conditions.

✦ DOMICILES, of which are classed as LOW-END, shall be priced at 10-20 Mina

✦ DOMICILES, which are classed as LOW-END, may only have ONE basement if it is feasible to do so. Doing any further additions than so will add on to your taxes and become a clause for eviction. HIGH-END may have two basements and follow the similar rule set as LOW-END.

✦ GUILDS are defined as internal domestic groups that commune under one sole purpose, goal, or creed/tenant.

✦ VASSALS are defined as cities of Aelwen, which are given out to by privy of the Elder Council and the Prince of Aelwen. 

✦ VASSALS must negotiate with El’Sirame to have a defined tax price.

The Green Banner of el’Taynuel is hereby lowered and retired. In its place, the elSil Malin’leh Banner is raised. We are called to defend what is threatened, and to strike where corruption has made peace impossible.

Under the Falchion Banner:

1. The realm stands in holy vigilance for the defense of the Sanctum.
2. Common Law is now suspended. All crimes will be judged under the Martial Law system.
3. Acts of aggression taken in defense of the Sanctum are sanctioned, and may not be punishable after the Falchion Banner is lowered.

The Falchion Banner shall fly above the Motherland for the duration of this conflict.

1. All citizens, mage and non-mage alike, are required to bear arms against the foes in defense of the realm.
   1. All citizens shall be required to carry a sword and crossbow with them at all times.
   2. Non-mages shall be required to wear armor at all times.
2. Militia officers shall be selected by the el’Sirame or Elder Council from the citizenry by either volunteering or by skill.
3. All members of the militia outside of the selected officers shall be equal in voice, and listen to the el’Sirame, Elder Council and Officers.
4. The Militia shall disband once the Falchion banner is lowered, and the conflict has ended.

The Heial’elaetah, or Elder Council, serves as the highest governing body of the realm. The Council guides el’Sirame, interprets the law, and maintains the preservation of memory, ancestry, culture, and the maintenance of spiritual and natural balance.

The final authority of the Sanctum and the sole source of statute. The Throne confirms decrees, oversees the military, and reserves judgement in matters of spiritual treason and sovereignty.

Presiding over the Elder Council is the Sohaer, who serves as First Speaker and Steward of the Council. The Sohaer presides over the Council of Elders in session and serves as el’Sirame’s chief civil advisor.

Duties of el’Sohaer include:

The Elder of Nature, known as the Archdruid of Aelwen, is the steward of the land, the forest, and the living sanctuary that is Aelwen. They oversee the health of the natural world. She guides growth, restoration, and environmental balance and is the voice of the Sun Circle in the Elder Council.

The Elder of the Arcane presides over the Great Library and the study of magic within Aelwen. Their duty is to ensure magic serves understanding and preservation, never excess or corruption.

AËLAN LEGAL CODE:

THE LAW OF THE SANCTUM

The laws of the Lordship of Aelwen are all written, issued , and agreed upon by the sole authority of el’Sirame, Adriél aen Araleth. These statues are written by virtue of the Autumn Prince’s spiritual insight and wisdom in order to uphold the principles of the evarn’sae and to ensure that the san’taliyna is maintained. The laws of Aelwen are sanctioned across the Sanctum, to be followed by all who reside within or enter it.

These laws cannot be changed without contextualized discussion with the Sun Circle and only with the seal of approval from the Autumn Prince himself. If any law additions are made, these will be declared by means of a Decree of the Sanctum, announced, and spread across the sanctuary.

At the current moment, the laws are split up into three partitions:

✷ The Common Law: The law of the Sanctum applies to crime and offenses against people and property. These laws are specific to all stations: citizens, residents, or otherwise. For the most part, these laws are dealt with by the Blades of Malin at the discretion of the punishment tier system.

✷ The Sacred Law: The law of the Divine is for all offenses against the Creator, the evarn’sae, the sanctity of el’Taynuel, and the core tenets of Acaelanism. Due to the nature of these laws, they are handled by the Sun Circle and the tir’sairan.

✷ The Martial Law: The laws of the military coincide with all legislatures for the Blades of Malin. The martial law of Aelwen is under the direct scrutiny of el’Sirame, and it is for him, or is appointed Captains, to hold martial law. This does not supersede the Sacred Law.

ON THE THREE-TIER PUNISHMENT SYSTEM:

All Blades of Malin are required to follow the current listed punishment tier system for Common Law offenses. Each crime has a listed punishment, which can be offered at the discretion of the Blade on a case-by-case basis but should still be followed in earnest. Certain offenses listed under the Sacred Law and high treason may not follow a tier system.

✷ 1st Offense: The first offense constitutes a lesser punishment depending on the offense.

✷ 2nd Offense: The second offense constitutes a middling punishment depending on the offense.

✷ 3rd Offense: The third offense constitute the harshest punishment depending on the offense.

ON THE MATTERS OF SOUL AND STATURE:

✷ The Children of Malin

The Lordship of Aelwen is the sacred sanctuary of the Lye’naeran. Citizenship is granted to all of Elven blood, as they are the direct lineage entrusted with the evarn’sae by ahe’Malin.

Citizenship Benefits & Rights:

• Automatic Citizenship: Any individual of proven Elven blood may petition for and receive automatic citizenship upon swearing the oath to uphold the laws of the Sanctum.
• Tax Exemption: Citizens are exempt from property tax on their homes.
• Right to Bear Arms: Citizens are allowed to carry personal weapons within the Sanctum without restriction.
• Right to Uncensored Speech: Citizens are allowed to freely express themselves and their beliefs without fear of persecution from the government.
• Military & Civil Access: Citizens may become a Blade of Malin (upon meeting standards) and may seek employment in the government, or join the Sun Circle or serve as a tir’sair.
• Economic Advantage: Citizens are granted priority for all civil and commercial licenses and hold the right of first refusal on all newly discovered resources or land within the Sanctum.
• Legal Standing: In civil disputes involving nonresidents, the citizen’s testimony shall be accorded greater initial weight by the tir’sairan until contradictory evidence is provided.

✷ On Non-Elven Descendants

Owing to the sanctity of Aelwen, those of non-Elven birth are provided the lesser designation of Resident until they can become Citizens. This designation explicitly excludes Adunians, who are considered of the Blood of Malin.

Residency Duties & Restrictions:

• Financial Duty: Non-Elves residing within Aelwen must pay property tax on all land dwellings, and structures they own.
• Weapon Restriction: They cannot carry personal weapons within the Sanctum except when traveling with a sanctioned guard or within their own premises.
• Political Restriction: They cannot hold any office of government, cannot join the Sun Circle, or be appointed as a tir’sair, and cannot become a Blade of Malin.
• Legal Standing: They cannot testify in civil court until their Oath of Purpose is accepted by a matir’sair.

Path to Citizenship:

• A Non-Elf is unable to become a citizen of Aelwen without fulfilling three sacred requirements, which are non-negotiable and confirm fidelity to the evarn’sae.
  • The Scholarly Contribution: Must contribute a book of original knowledge or philosophy, written by themselves, to the Library of Aelwen. This must be judge by the Archmage of the Library to contribute meaningfully to the preservation of knowledge.
  • The Oath of Purpose (il’halern): Must publicly and formally renounce any and all worship of Gods, Daemons, Aspects, or any Mani other than the Creator.
  • The Stewardship Course: Must successfully complete a comprehensive class on the proper ways of maintaining the Sanctum, including environmental care and the principles of orderly development.

✷ On the Exalted Houses

The duties and restrictions outlined for Non-Elven Descendants do not apply to:

• The immediate Imperial Family and their guards.
• The immediate royal family of Idunia and their guards.

We must return to the root, to the Source, to He who carved the cosmos not for leisure, but for judgement. For what is the worth of freedom, if it is untethered from virtue.

Thus I, Adriel aen Araleth, servant of the law and warden of Aelwen, have compiled the law of the Acelanites into ordered texts, so that the faithful may walk rightly and without error. From the nature of God to the nature of the soul, from the curses of the Deceiver to the obligations of the righteous, nothing has been omitted. These books are a mirror of the will of Acaelan.

Chapter I: On the Nature of Acaelan

1.1 All life within el’Taynuel is of Acaelan’s crafting. To take life without just cause is to mar the artistry of Most High.

1.2 Blood is the vessel of soul within the mortal shell. It is not to be spilled lightly, nor offered to false powers.

1.3 The Acaelanite must abstain from rites of sacrifice to Aenguls, Demons, Aspects or Mani, for these are not the creator. Such rites are heresy.

1.4 The shedding of blood in defense of life, in protection of the innocent, or in fulfillment of the Entwined Imperatives is sanctified, and no sin lies upon it.

Chapter II: On Prayer and the Hours

2.1 The faithful shall offer taynueliir, morning prayer at first light, facing eastward, towards the direction from which the Light first entered the world.

2.2 At midday, the sul’iir, or sun-prayer is to be done in silence, a moment of inward clarity and remembrance.

2.3 At dusk, the fiyemiir, or vigil of twilight, shall be recited aloud, that the darkness not enter the heart.

2.4 Each prayer must include words of gratitude, remembrance of the laier’fiyemalan, and call for strength upon the evarn’sae.

2.5 The unlearned may recite simply: “Acaelan, sulnûl, guide me through the trial.” This suffices when spoken in truth.

Chapter III: On Sacred Space and Cleansing

3.1 Wherever the name of Acaelan is spoken in reverence, there is sanctity. But let there be sanctuaries, humble and without idol, for the sake of reflection.

3.2 No carved image of Acaelan shall be made. No likeness shall be offered, for He is not to be fashioned by hand or fantasy.

3.3 Before entering a place of prayer, the Lye’naeran shall cleanse his hands and brow with water drawn from natural spring, rain or stream.

3.4 Let the sanctuary be adorned with light: a lantern of white flame, or skylight open to the heavens, for Acaelan is the sulnûl.

3.5 The sanctuary is not a temple to be ruled, but a place of quiet, for reflection, for guidance, and remembrance of the trial.

Chapter IV: On Fasting and the Days of Stillness

4.1 Each year’s end, the faithful shall observe the Day of Stillness, refraining from labor and indulgence. This is not to be mourned, but welcomed.

4.2 Fasting from dawn to dusk shall be observed during the first week of Malin’s Welcome, which commemorates ahe’Malin’s journey from the forest into the high realms.

4.3 Fasting is not for punishment but for sharpening. The body is hushed so the soul may be heard.

4.4 No fasting is required of the infirm, the child, or bearer of life. Acaelan’s law does not punish need.

4.5 In fasting, one shall remember the burdens of others. Let food withheld from oneself be given in charity.

Chapter V: On the Conduct of the Acaelanite

5.1 The faithful shall not adorn themselves in excess, nor speak in vain, nor delight in cruelty or lies. The tongue and hand are the mirrors of the soul.

5.2 One shall walk in san’taliyna, the sacred rhythm, by keeping their word, honoring the aged, aiding the lost, and shunning those who sow corruption.

5.3 The Lye’naeran shall speak always with integrity, and never invoke Acaelan’s name to mask their deceit.

5.4 If one errs, let them return to the way without shame. Repentance is not weakness, but the truest kind of strength.

Chapter VI: On Marriage and the Bearing of Kin

6.1 Marriage is a bond sanctified by intention, not by ceremony. It is the union of two souls walking the evarn’sae together.

6.2 Let it not be made in haste nor sundered lightly. To commit in the name of Acaelan is to bind one’s journey to another’s burden.

6.3 Children born to Acaelanites are not possessions, but souls entrusted to guide by the Most High. They must be raised with discipline, clarity, and love.

6.4 The household is the first sanctuary, In it, prayer shall be taught, mercy practiced, and the Imperatives upheld.

6.5 If a soul remains unwed, they are no less blessed. For each path is unique, and all are tested according to what is given.

Chapter I: On the Nature of Acaelan

1.1 It is the universal truth that there is but One, the Whole of All, called in the elder tongue Acaelan. Before all things, before time and breath, Acaelan was.

1.2 Acaelan is not a being bound by plane or form. He is not shaped, nor limited or born. He is immanent and transcendent, the sulnûl, the Light within and beyond all.

1.3 By His intent alone was reality made into two realms: el’Taynuel, the mortal world, and Acaelan, the unreachable sky, which is Himself.

1.4 To wonder at what came before Acaelan is heresy. He is the Origin without origin, the Breath without lungs, the Flame without tinder.

Chapter II: On the Dual Realms of Being

2.1 In the beginning, there was only Acaelan. When He willed Creation, he brought el’Taynuel, where life may grow, and Acaelan, which remained untainted into being.

2.2 el’Taynuel is the temporal world: earth, sea, sky and soul. It is the world, carved from the being of Acaelan, and entrusted to the Descendants.

2.3 Acaelan is the Everrealm, the plane beyond, the radiant height of the Seven Skies. 

2.4 The boundary between the two is sacred. One cannot ascend into Acaelan by craft or spell, but only by purity, endurance, and the favor of the Most High.

Chapter III: On the Ascent of ahe’Malin

3.1 From the clay of el’Taynuel was shaped the first Man and Woman, into whom the Breath was instilled.

3.2 In them, he laid the root of the evarn’sae, and from their children arose civilization.

3.3 Their eldest, ahe’Malin explored the world, named the trees, rivers and the stones, and his children shaped the world in that image.

3.4 When all was complete, ahe’Malin ascended, not by sword or strength, but by keeping the san’taliyna (sacred order) and fulfilling his duty.

3.5 Thus was born the Ascent of ahe’Malin, who now abides in the heights of Acaelan, as the first of the il’halern, those who reach the Seven Skies by endurance of faith.

3.6 His children keep the throne open for the day that the Immortal King returns to rule over Elvendom once more.

Chapter IV: On the Deceiver and the Curse

4.1 Among the Aengul and Daemons born before the world, one turned against the Most High, the Deceiver.

4.2 His rebellion shattered the stillness of el’Taynuel. He brought promises of pleasure, of immortality, of dominion, and many fell.

4.3 To ahe’Malin he offered children unending; to Urguan, treasures; to Horen, timeless life. Only Krug resisted, and his skin was scarred in fire.

4.4 When war broke out, the Deceiver reaped death and unlife alike. For thirty years the world was drowned in his malice, until the Hosts of Acaelan descended and cast him down.

4.5 Yet before he was banished, the Deceiver spoke his curses, and they endured as trials. The laier’fiyemalan are the scars of our burden, not to be lamented, but to be overcome.

Chapter V: On the Entwined Imperatives

5.1 In the Acelanite way, there are Entwined Imperatives: to guard el’Taynuel, and to ascend to Acaelan.

5.2 The first is external, by tending to life, to kin, to forest and flame. This is the charge entrusted to ahe’Malin.

5.3 The second is inward, by resisting temptation, overcoming curse, and walking the evarn’sae. Few reach the Seven Skies.

5.4 These imperatives are not contradictory. The soul must serve both the World and the Light, or it serves neither.

Chapter VI: On the Way of the Lye’naeran

6.1 The Lye’naeran does not bow to Daemon or Aengul, nor Aspect or Mani, for none but Acaelan shaped existence.

6.2 He walks in the memory of ahe’Malin, but does not worship him. He keeps the san’taliyna, the sacred rhythm of life and law.

6.3 His path is not ease, but burden. His work is to purify himself, to aid the weary, to rebuke the wicked, and to sanctify the ground he walks.

6.4 For in el’Taynuel, we are shaped. In trial, we are weighed, and in Acaelan, if we are found worthy, we endure.
