Pre-History

According to Frostbeard legend, the clan has its origins with the fourth son of Urguan, Kaz’Ulrah. Kaz’Ulrah preferred the more solitary lifestyle of the cold mountains and journeyed there with his followers. From there, he and his descendants would make a home there that would eventually be called Jornheim. Over time, the name Frostbeards became akin to them for whenever they would descend from the mountains, frost and snow would be in their beards from the snowy mountains.

The Frostbeards were a group of Dwarves who lived deep within the mountains of Aegis. They were not very well known nor did they want to be; they admired their culture and traditions and how they lived. Soon, however, a group of travellers came into their village seeking refuge and shelter from the unforgiving snow storm. Generously, the Frostbeards opened their doors and sheltered the cold and hungry travellers, but these travellers were soon to cause a lot of havoc. The travellers thanked them for their generosity and asked if they could purchase a house in the village for their goods that they were selling. The Frostbeards gave them the house without hesitation, but the Dwarves could not have known the travellers true intentions.

After the travellers settled in Jornheim, the townspeople slowly grew more hostile towards each other. They began to fight over prices of food and minerals, which ultimately led to a rift forming between the inhabitants. Soon, without the knowledge of the Jarl, the town was to become divided into two sides, one being the Domnu’s and one being the Dechtire’s. Both sides were evenly matched and had around the same number of supporters, but what it was they supported was the question that was never asked. Without notice the travellers had corrupted the minds of the innocent civilians of the town of Jornheim, causing a civil war to take place inside its mighty walls. It was to be a massacre that was never forgotten.

The Jarl grew anxiously worried of the actions of his people towards each other; he drew his attention towards his mercenaries, who were to go and restore order within the town and bring all this chaos to a halt. However, the mercenaries misinterpreted the orders of the Jarl and instead caused even more havoc by threatening the civilians with severe consequences for their actions. This only further stirred the tension, as the Jarl was now being targeted by his own people. Meanwhile, the travellers watched as the town grew angrier and angrier with one another, and without notice the travellers slipped away as if they were never there. Finally, a meeting was called in the centre of the town by the Jarl, where they were to negotiate on terms the Jarl did not approve of.

The Domnus wanted to be separated from the Dechtire’s and wanted a wall between the town separating it in half, the Dechtire’s, however, wanted to take a more aggressive approach towards the situation and said they wanted to burn down all the Dechtire’s houses, but then the Jarl shouted at the top of his lungs, "Silence!" Responding, the town quickly comprehended and grew quiet. The Jarl then asked his people "Why, Why dae ye want tae fite each otherr! Why!" No one had an answer to that as the crowd slowly started mumbling and talking between each other, but suddenly, an arrow was fired from a far flung watch tower hitting the Jarl in the heart. He tumbled down from the platform, then  landing in the middle of his people. His blood poured down from the back of his head forming a ruby puddle in the street. The people watched in horror before a loud voice shouted, "The Domnu's did it!" This caused the Domnu’s to take out their swords and stand defensively as the Dechtire's gathered around them shouting "Death!" While others agreed, "Aye death tae tha wee bastardsh!" The voices echoed as a dark shadow stood in the watch tower overseeing all this with a slight grin on his face. With that, a civil war had been started.

The Domnu's hurried to their side of the town where they had stayed and armed themselves in a defensive manner. The Dechtire's did the same; however, they were charging towards the Domnu's with everything they had. Blood stained the streets as the Jarl’s body was hidden within the Tower of the Dead. The sun slowly began to rise as the result of the Domnu's and Dechtire's skirmish was revealed. The stone had turned from grey to red, and only three people were left alive from the bloodshed; however, the handful of survivors soon left the empty, blood-stained town behind.

Asulon

In the lands of Asulon, the Frostbeards plunged to their lowest point in terms of honor and strength, and later on their highest point in honor, strength, and power. Right after the arrival to the sanctuary of Asulon, many of the Frostbeards split apart. Karl Frostbeard, the clan father at the time, did everything in his power to reunite the scattered Frostbeards but to no avail. Soon after, Karl the Orcbane vanished, and not a single Dwarf knew what had become of him. Years later, several Frostbeards banded together and returned to Karik, reuniting under the clan name and with the leadership of Clan Father Liam Frostbeard. This was truly a new era for the Frostbeards, for better and for worse.

Many years had passed by and the Frostbeards, who had ended up taking up residence in Alras, had decided to mend the tensions between the clan and the Dwarven Nation by returning to their roots. The Frostbeards did not return to the Nation empty handed, however, they returned with an entire Kingdom in their grasp and granted ownership of it towards the Nation of Karik. During this time the Frostbeards had created a marriage bond with the Goldhands, living under their wing in the times in which they struggled. It was around this time when Goruk “The Great” Frostbeard, son of Karl “The Orcbane” Frostbeard, had returned to join the remaining Frostbeards and lead them to greater glory. That he did, leading them into many battles and returning the Frostbeards to their former glory in terms of power and strength. It was around this time when the Frostbeards took a plot of land in the Nation of Karik, and upon it they built a stronghold that will be spoken of in old tavern tales for many years to come. The Frostbeards had the money, the power, and the strength to stop living under the Goldhands wing, so they did exactly that and took up their rightful birth name once more, while living under their own traditions and teachings.

Years later, after the three holds had mended under one Kings rule once more, the Frostbeards had risen to take up council positions within the Kingdom and restore the glory of the Dwarves. Chief Goruk the Great had become Lord Marshal of the Dwarves, and Gorum Frostbeard had become the High Ambassador of the Dwarves. Goruk was known as the Dwarf who restored the Legion from the shards it was left in by the previous Lord Marshal, Grimloth Irongut. The Legion was restored to its former glory entirely, leading the Dwarves into a new era of power, wealth, and ever expanding land conquered by the power of the Legion all under the leadership of Goruk. As time passed by, tensions began to rise between Lord Marshal Goruk and King Hiebe Irongut. Goruk and the Frostbeards had tensions with Hiebe and the Ironguts, tensions that had been contained until one day Goruk and Gorum fully attempted to overthrow Hiebe;however, not in a dishonourable way. They wished to go about it while still entirely following the Dwarven constitution by using a re-election of some sort. The Frostbeards had the full backing of the council members, but when it came time to vote the council backed away and betrayed the Frostbeards trust. Afterwards, both Gorum and Goruk Frostbeard stepped down from their military and diplomatic positions before taking a leave from the Dwarves for quite some time.

It is common belief that the Frostbeards are not good merchants, but they are on par with the Goldhands, if not better at some points. In Aegis, Asulon, Anthos and now Athera they have been the richest Dwarven clan. It is the Frostbeard tradition to maintain wealth that has been acquired through hard work and labour.

Anthos

Many years had passed, and Goruk the Great had vanished in similar fashion to the disappearance of Karl the Orcbane. Liam Frostbeard, former Clan Father, returned to the Frostbeards for a brief amount of time before getting back to his hunt. Upon arrival to the new lands, the Frostbeards had once again taken positions of authority within the Dwarven Kingdom. This time, however, they had no quarrels with the reigning King. Gorum Frostbeard had become one of five Lords of the Dwarves, directly under King Omithiel, and Moruk Frostbeard had become the Grand Merchant. It was also around this time that King Omithiel proposed to Moiruh Frostbeard, making her the future queen of the Kingdom of Urguan.

The Kingdom of Urguan began to prosper under the rule of King Omithiel, and the Frostbeards began to prosper as well. They had kept to their tradition of remaining and maintaining the title of the richest clan, but the same could not be said in terms of power and strength. The Frostbeards were leaderless, lost, and near the brink of a second collapse when an unexpected arrival happened during this crisis. It was the second coming of great Clan Lord Karl “The Orcbane” Frostbeard. A new era was to unfold in the lands of Anthos as it did in the lands of Asulon, an era where there would be no rise and fall for the Frostbeards, there would only be ascension.

Athera

When Fimlin was king, in the world of Athera, Verthaik Frostbeard journeyed to the kingdom, the sole living known member of the clan. He took over as Clan Father as there was no other and immediately began finding and connecting members into the lineage. The clan began to grow again as members flocked to Verthaik’s leadership and soon became one of the largest. Soon, Verthaik became recognized as a capable leader and warrior and after many failure Grand Marshals, Grand King Vorstag made Verthaik the new Grand Marshal. Fresh out of beardling hood, he was the youngest Grand Marshal in the history of the kingdom and he would go on to prove his youth did not mean incompetence. He had received a Legion that did not exist and recreated it from the ground up. Even though the Grand Kindom was in tatters and its population small, Verthaik created a competent and organized military that could actually function.

At this time Verthaik began to enter the politics of the kingdom, as he sought to bring Frostbeard back to its glory and remove the corruption of the kingdom. He quickly became Arbiter after a few moves and made himself a big player in the council and worked to bring his clan into membership of it. However, as Verthaik was too busy with the war against the humans, the cave dwarf coalition made a power move and removed Verthaik as arbiter. As Verthaik finally moved his attention back into his politics, he quickly was able to obtain a seat on the council for the Frostbeards. He made an alliance among the mountain dwarves and a clear division was made as Verthaik had gained control.

It was not long after, though, that Verthaik had enough of the petty politics of the kingdom and took his clan and left the kingdom in self exile.

Eventually, Vulkin returned to the kingdom and attempted to lead the clan back in a failed attempt and left. Afterwards, Verthaik’s grandfather, Rhewen took over the clan and members began to slowly migrate back into the kingdom until the Orc-Dwarf war. During the war, Rhewen was killed savagely by the orcs and made into a hero and rallying call for the dwarves. The power behind this even moved Verthaik into returning to the kingdom once more, obtaining clan leadership again and a claiming commander in the Legion.

Right now, Frostbeards stand as one of the largest clans and possess great potential for the future.

Wolves

Wolves played a big part in Jornheim for the Frostbeards. They were used as hunting animals and even house-pets by those who had trained their wolves as such. The Frostbeards adore wolves and they are used as a honourable representation of previous Frostbeards. In Jornheim there was a statue of a large Wolf as tribute to Gimri Frostbeard. The Frostbeards use Wolves in war, for hunting and as pets.

Clan Appearance

The majority of the Frostbeards have a similar look. Jet black hair lines their heads and facial hair along with chilling blue eyes. It is the distinct look that Frostbeards are born with and if it describes you, then most likely you are a Frostbeards. Among the dwarves of the kingdom this is one thing that makes them unique for most other clans in the kingdom do not hold this trait. There are a few rarities among the clan, however. Some clan members boast notable differences such as the odddities of Red and purple eyes and sometimes even green. Frostbeards are also one of the few clans that hold a rare line of blond dwarves among its kinsmen.

Most Frostbeards are average dwarven height of around four and a half feet tall. Though sometimes they can grow to a rare five feet tall. Frostbeards are stocky, hardy dwarves, built to endure and survive from living in the cold and frigid temperatures of the snowy mountains of the Kingdom.

Clan Personality

The word honor holds the utmost esteem within the clan of the Frostbeards. They will hold true to their word and never go back on a deal or oath, unless they’re a stark dwarf. This, however does not mean that they cannot be rude and stern, for if their honor is disputed or disrespected they will most likely become engulfed in a grudge and can act like a wild beserker if the situation is not handled correctly.

Though on the outside they may appear stern and unfriendly, they are usually quite the opposite (At least to friends.). Be on good terms with a Frostbeard and they can be the best of friends of allies. Turn on one and make him your enemy and he can be the most dangerous and fiercest enemy you could ever have.

The kinsmen of the Frostbeard Clan are loyal to the kingdom and their fellow descendants of Urguan, but they have the utmost respect and loyalty to their clan and their kinsmen. If one is offended then it is as if you have offended every single one. If you are friend to one, then you are a friend to all. The kinsmen of the Clan will always work to better their clan and their kinsmen and in turn the Kingdom.

Frostbeards are exemplary fighters, honing their battle prowess most of their lives and partaking in brawls, friendly fights, and tournaments as often as they can to better their skill on the battlefield.  In turn, they find fighting a crucial part of life that is never ignored by a Frostbeard. They are known to be some of the fiercest fighter among the kingdom. It is said that eing one on the field of battle is akin to seeing a bear savagely tearing away at its prey.

Frostbeards are also known to be renown partakers in the luxuries of life. They love to gamble, eat, and drink ale. You’ll never find a Frostbeard to turn down any of those three, if offered.

Trials

All Frostbeards must participate in their trials before they may ascend from beardling hood. On the day of their trial, they shall journey to the forests, armed with nothing but a spear and wearing naught but the simplest of clothes. Their task to track down a great bear and slay it, then proceed to skin its pelt and bring it back to their kinsmen.

When he returns, the Frostbeards gather and the Clan Father and his elders examine the pelt. They study it and decide whether the pelt the beardling has acquired is worthy of becoming a true Dwed among his kinsmen.

If the pelt is accpetd, the final step of the Ceremony is lighting a grand bonfire. The Clan father would walk to the beardling and place his hands on the beardling's shoulders. "BARUK KHAZAD!" is what the Clan Father exclaims and then the beardling would say "KHAZAD AI-MENU!"

The Frostbeards are marked by the very same pelt that most wear upon their back and shoulders for the rest of their days and it is a rare sight to see one without theirs on. The trials that a beardling passes are a test of courage and valor for those are two of the esteemed traits a Frostbeard must hold.

Silvervein Description

Silverveins usually have Jetblack, Orange or Gray hair with blue or grayish eyes. their diverse looks come from their background of being a mix of Frostbeard and Irongut/ireheart. Despite this, Silverveins have a lot of physical similarities in their clothes such as a preference to wear light blue clothing, as well as all Silverveins wearing a Neck Ring out of Silver. To this neck ring a line and personal Runestones can be attached as symbols of a task they are sworn to complete. Silverveins are also usually found with their Hounds, one of which each member has.

Silverveins are Thinkers, Tinkers, Engineers, crafters and scholars. They live in Laboratories usually constructed in the cities or near the mountain peaks. These Laboratories are as much practical workshops as they are homes for the clan where they can meet and live. Silverveins unlike many Dwarves usually like to spend a lot of time outside the mountains in the high peaks where they make camps, complete trials and perform rituals. as well as do their crafting if they set up their laboratory there.

Silverveins are also a very free clan muchly because their homes in the mountain peaks allow it and their connection with the Frostbeard clan. However unlike frostbeards, Silverveins don’t start rebellions or are aggressive in their freedom. Silverveins view all their relationships as Friendships, to other clans or kingdoms or even to the Nation of Urguan. if by a friend they are treated well, have friendly terms and so on, then they will be the best of friends and fiercely loyal. give gifts, host feasts and stand up for their friends no matter what. If however a friendship is toxic the Silverveins will leave it, if this means stopping interactions with a clan or moving from the Dwarven capital to their mountain peaks, the Silverveins won’t stand anyone infringing on their freedom.

Silvervein Warriors have the finest armour crafted by their kin and train tirelessly in the arts of hunting, combat and surviving the harsh climates of mountain peaks. The best warriors become Silver Rangers, an elite order of the Silvervein fighters.

Silvervein Engineers and Smiths are not afraid to use all kinds of knowledge to their advantage, including magical, nature and symbolic rituals, it's common for Silvevein dwarves to make charm runes and put on their work station for luck and blessings from Yemeker and other Braths.

Their key eye for both science and nature leads a lot of Silverveins down the road to learn herbalism and this can then be applied to the Silverveins profession in any way that might bring them advantage, such as elixirs and alchemy, to heat flames further for crafting or for healing.

Silvervein Trails

First Silvervein Trial is to forge a mighty weapon, this is to resemble the workers part of the clan. Clan father, or clan elder will inspect the weapon, and decide if the beardling has passed.

The second Trial is to duel a warrior of the clan (rules decided not by the beardling). This is to resemble the warrior part of the clan. A Clan Father or Clan Elder will watch the duel and decide if the beardling has passed.

The Third trial is to hunt an impressive beast, this resembel the Ranger part of the clan. when returning with a trophy of the beast the Clanfather or clan Elder deside if the beardling passed.

Finally, after completing all trials the beardling is to take a blood oath over the Fire Oath in front of the clan.

VI NOTABLE SILVERVEIN

Edel Silvervein

Edel Silvervein has done much more to the Silvervein clan then any other Silvervein, Dwarf, or any other living being. Edel had founded, and liberated the clan from Throri “Dishonorable” Stonemace, he signed the Blue-Silver Concordat,  he formed the Confederation Of Hammers, the true home of the Silvervein Clan, he revived the clan twice, and these are only few of his achievements. 

Thalrim Silvervein

Thalrim Silvervein, beside from being chosen to be the Clan father,  he had decided to stay loyal to his roots even during the darkest ages of the Silverveins he stayed loyal to his clan. Instead of joining the Frostbeards, he and few others decided to be Mugbeards, when Gimli changed the clan’s name to Emberbanes, Thalrim stayed loyal to the Silverveins. Besides staying loyal to his routs, when Edel revived the clan in the realm of Atlas, Thalrim helped him.

Zokhamil Silvervein

Zokhamli Silvervein has done many things to the clan, he was chosen to be the clan father, changed the trials, and had made the clan bigger then ever before and he has calmed the winds with many former enemies of the clan, such as the Frostbeards.

Dwarger Silvervein

Dwarger Silvervein is arguably the Silvervein to have done more to the clan then any other Silvervein but Edel. He was chosen to be clan father twice, has continued expanding the clan even after Zokhamli left, signed the Silver-Wood Alliance, brought the Silverveins back to their true home, to the Confederation. Years later Dwarger completely changed the Silverveins aswell and years after all his kin vanished, Dwarger still remained loyal to the clan.

The Aspects and Mannerisms

The Emberhorns are fair of skin, with bright eyes the colour of emeralds which shine beneath bushy brows. Their hair is auburn, and rarely worn long enough to braid- though oft-times the older Dwarves among them will decorate their beards with braids and clasps.  The Clan-members are slightly less broad and stocky than most Dwarves, but are still possessed of barrel-like torsos and powerful arms well-suited to the hardy professions. Their ears are slightly leaf-shaped- a peculiarity which some believe results from a far Elven ancestor. Mention this to a member of the Clan, however, and you may swift find yourself a few teeth lighter. While some are grim, prideful, and solemn, they are seldom evil-hearted, and cruelty does not come naturally to them except in the rarest of cases. They are possessed of a fortune to rival those of the richest clans and individuals upon the Isles, and as such the Emberhorns are somewhat more inclined to display Urguan’s Curse than others. Even still, the Clan will often be willing to help those in need, and charity is common and encouraged.

There is only one line of the Clan at present, that of Hodfair, though it is believed that there may be others which have not yet returned to the Kingdom of Dwarves. Dwed of this blood bear all of the earmarks of Mountain Dwarves, but are not purely such- as stated above, it is quite likely that the Clan had an Elf in its ancestry, and even more-so that the Clan interbred extensively with Forest Dwarves. Their affinity towards their slightly leaner build and willingness to welcome their forest-dwelling kin into their clan is testament to this.

They dress in tones of green, brown, and other natural colours, preferring to stay away from brighter shades and considering them needlessly garish. They often ornament themselves with gold to some degree, with many wearing engraved golden clasps and jewelry in their beards. This also translates to their armour, which is traditionally enameled green and gold like so:

The Stones of

Much of what is known today of the history of Clan Emberhorn finds its origins in the revered Tumun’zahar Stones, which were partially deciphered soon after the family's re-emergence in Axios. A series of seven stone-carved tablets, they appear to have been created around the year 800 by a skilled mason who used the moniker ‘the Keeper’. Of these stones, the first three detail the genesis of the Clan, and the last four various tales and stories of their exploits. Together compiled, they form the Song of Tumun’zahar, which is held in regard above all other relics of the family- though it was not always so, and a few of the stones (primarily the first few in the series) bear a great deal of wear and damage due to being at one point used as paving material.

A central focus of the epic is the eponymous Citadel Tumunzahar, known also as ‘Hollowbold’ in the Common Language. Said to have been constructed some thousand years ago by Dwarves fleeing an unnamed cataclysm (possibly a dragon,) it nestled among mountain peaks and was possessed of a vast underground system of natural caverns. Precious little is known of this burg save its name and reputation for tremendous beauty, for the Stones which regard its construction are among the most damaged. To further cloud the matter, the stories that are translated have a tendency to conflict in the location, structure, and size of the settlement. This has led some to believe that the “city” is actually several cities, spread out over a long period of time, and that the Song of Tumunzahar is simply a retelling of much older stories.

To quote the testament of the late Hodfair I Emberhorn, who spent many years translating the Song:

“I shall tell it as it was told to me, many centuries ago, by my father- who heard it from his father, and his father from his father’s father, who had seen the glories of yore with his own eyes and beheld the founding of the great city Hollowbold, known as Tumunzahar in the Old Tongue. Carved into the side of a great and mighty mountain by myriad stonemasons, the citadel stood defiant in the face of all tribulations. By hammer, chisel, axe and shield was built upon that mount the greatest legacy of our Clan, the likes of which shall never again upon this world be seen. Such beauty there was that even the hardest of Dwarven hearts softened to see it.

But ask me not to tell of it fully, for even my own father did not know its tales but for scraps and pieces which avail us naught. Perhaps it was as they say, in days of old, or perhaps not- those secrets are lost but for the earliest of the Seven Stones, and all our will must now be bent to translating them.”

+= The Ram =+

While we know very little of the city itself, it is told that the lone mountain of which Hollowbold was carved was surrounded by verdant highlands, upon which was found wildlife diverse and varied. Among these there lived an unusually large and abundant type of mountain-ram, exceptionally woolly and twice as dangerous as the frozen moraines upon which it survived. The rams were possessed of a pelt-wool softer than any other, well-suited for garment, rug, and all manner of weaving- but perhaps more importantly, their swift cloven hooves could traverse the treacherous alpine paths better than any Dwarven pony. Their violent disposition and resistance to any sort of domestication, therefore, presented itself as an obstacle to be overcome.

A late passage in the Song of Tumunzahar tells that the dwarves of the colony attempted for many years to tame these so-called ‘Gabhar Rams’ to no avail, until the coming of a particularly lucky individual. The following excerpt from the Song details his victory over the largest animal in the herd, which led to the domestication of the species:

"He leapt forth then, this tamer mad,

whom in his hand a rope-length had,

And with this made to gabhar bind.

Lo! Ramhorn fierce, he kicked behind,

for hempen bonds behooved him not,

And dwed fell sprawling, temper hot.

He tore his beard and cried aloud,

To make return with spear he vowed.

That clamour echoed through the peaks,

There was a shattered, grinding shriek,

And moraine swift came tumbling down.

The dwed did sweat, and he did frown,

And tumbled too, as not to fall,

For snow, and ice, and boulders all,

Came quick to bear upon his heel.

He shut his eyes, his death to feel,

But instead found himself aloft,

As if by bough of tree. He coughed,

And, baring frightened eyes, beheld,

That by fair goat was he upheld.

It bounded twice, s’if borne by wind,

And as the falling glacier thinned,

It set dwarf down upon the ground,

Who reached fair up, removed its bond,

And ever since, my sons, to fore,

Gabhar and dwed, they fight no more."

Whether it be true or fanciful, this passage records the beginning of a fruitful friendship which has lasted many generations, and in many ways defined the legacy of the Clan. The ram and its horns are often used in imagery, and the family employs them in everything from warfare, to caravans of goods, to shearing their wool for weaving.

Members of the Clan who have proven themselves in war or other service to the family are said to have ‘earned their horns’, and receive the right to wear upon their helms the great spiraling antlers of the rams- a fearsome sight. Artificery, however, is not the only thing in which the rams have contributed to Clan’s culture, for they are also the inspiration of the Clan’s modern name- though it is never once mentioned outright and was never used to refer to the progenitors of the family. The passage is such, and recounts a battle against goblins late in the Song:

And in that fateful charge of auld

The dwedish clan, those brothers bold

Dealt death unto the eldritch dark,

Threw down their enemy, and hark!

From that brash clamour embers flew,

‘Pon clashing horns, and bloody dew,

which fell like rain upon the ground.

And filled was glen with death’s grim sound.

From which was gathered the name ‘Emberhorn’, and henceforth such was used to refer to the family in present times. The ram’s horns are also on the Clan’s banner, writ in gold upon a field of verdure.

THE SURFACE DWARVES OF UR

PENNED BY THE PARTNERSHIP OF

URIST AND URRION

I. History

The wild goat of a dwed known as Ur the Hammer was born to Urric Doomforged nearly half a millenia ago. The baseborn dwarf possessed a coarse temperament thoroughly common among his kin, but where he differed was his restless sense of ambition. Even at a young age, Ur routinely found himself questioning the strict hierarchy of the old Grand Kingdom at every turn - the dwarf felt trapped within the caves of Urguan and questioned how he could find his ancestor’s glory through cutting stone and patrolling deep roads. When opportunity struck for the dwarf to take his leave from the Kingdom, he did by electing a path common to many houses of yore, and setting sail for Aeldin seeking glory and conquest.

There, the dark dwarf established a legend of conquest by serving under a multitude of mercenaries, eventually building the renown to command his own guard. In his campaigns, he even encountered the madcap Balthar Blackaxe,  great uncle to King Wulfgar and brother to Paragon Valen. The stark dwarf of old was impressed with Ur command of battle, and offered his daughter Val to him to maintain surface dwarf ties - thus Ur began a family with Val, who brought with her an inheritance to the then wealthy West Karik Trade Company.

An uncommon sight in that far-flung continent, it was not long before many of the imperial court wished to see the berserker dark dwarf. He soon found himself before the Emperor Audemar Horosid, who took favor on the dwarf and offered him a crest and honors if he were to serve alongside the Nauzica Brigade in the Exeter Wars.

Ur, upon receiving the offer, had feared he had become complacent as he once found himself in Urguan as a beardling - he accepted the Emperor’s offer, but on the condition that his children would take his stead. His two sons, Urir and Urri, along with his berserker daughter Urara, took to military service under Charles Henry Horen and Frederick ver de Line with grace and tact, offering strong berserkers and dwarven steel, while Ur sailed off once more to start his legend anew. His children took the name Drumm (pronounced Droom) as a bastard form of Doomforged and were granted the coat of arms of a goat in honor of Ur’s pride against the Emperor, enabled to fly their own banners as they fought alongside the Nauzica Brigade.

Yet, the fate of that Nauzica band is known to many - Urir and Urri both perished at the calamity of the Battle of Ronda, where Charles Henry Horen had attempted to coup the Horosid usurper and reclaim his birthright. Their young children, Urrigon and Urist respectively, were forced into exile alongside the remainder of the Nauzica Brigade.

Urrigon and Urist, the dark dwarf cousins, had kept to the Johannians in their exile and restoration until dismissed by the third commander of the Nauzica Brigade, the entitled and presumptuous John Jrent, bastard to John I. Despite this slight, they still kept their allegiance to the surface and even played a minor role in establishing the Blue Mountain colony, with Urrigon wedding the daughter of the Blue Mountain King. The pair of cousins kept afloat through mercenary work and the mining trade, awaiting the ripe opportunity to restore their name to glory...

The cousins Drumm found themselves in Ves not long after the burning of Adria and the installation of Prince Myre, seeking the favor of the young pretender Emperor Joseph I. The pair had hoped their Nauzican heritage would enable them a high position in court. The Orenian was willing to hear them for the sake of their forefathers, yet decided against any action concerning them. Shortly after Joseph fell from Grace following the defections of Curon, Ves and Haense. While he settled into his role as a member of the city’s elite class, the wealth of Drumm at his side, the other kin of Ur came to settle with him. They ventured from far and wide, heeding the call of their cousins, and soon the Clan was reunified in Ves, and bestowed lodging by the City Clerk in Mt. St. Catherine. They achieved two seats in the City Assembly, and now seek Patrician status. The Clan refounded the West Karik Merchant Company, originally conceived by Balthar, one of their many great ancestors.
