[Lore] Focus Crystals

Sorcerers twist their hands, energy flows between their fingers, out their palms to evocate great streams of fire, gusts of wind, waves of water, bolts of electricity, wisps of arcane, and chunks of stone. Those who weave spells have grown adapt in these arts, using nothing but their hands to evocate magical elements. However, some magical users take themselves to be of the Wizard variety, taken to mastering staves, wands and other such catalysts of power. But how, you may ask?

Focus crystals, these natural stones seem to sprout from trees and dirt alike, almost growing naturally like mushrooms. Although relatively useless in the wilderness, they offer a faint glow, illuminating the forests they seem to cover (or at least until they’re removed from the ground).  After harvesting these stones, transmuting them, and fiddling with the possible properties they may offer has unturned one thing, they’re inherently bound to the Void, although only faintly.

This bind to the Void is quite minute, but also extraordinary. Once plucked from the dirt, and refined, they serve as a perfect catalyst for magical endeavors! One can simply attach it to the end of a staff, which will then allow you to harness your energy at said crystal, which in turn will serve as the focus for your spell. An added bonus is that you can simply focus your energy, and make the crystal glow for added light in dark caves, or forests alike.

However this crystal doesn’t add any real bonus to the potency, or efficiency of your spells, it does give you a good distance to the possible hazardous nature of your magic. Fire evocation for example, will be further away from your hand and obviously less likely to burn you. And as before mentioned, can offer as a light source when need arises. It’s also noteworthy that you must be holding onto said Focus crystal in some form, else it’ll not function. A staff, wand, or other such ornament seems to serve such a purpose well enough.

- Kalameet Izalith, journal entry: Focus Crystals

((Much like my Spontaneous combustion post, this really just serves to bring the world to a more “full circle”, and clarify how stave's work.

With this lore accepted, this would possibly mean making said crystal present in our current world, which isn’t a really daunting task. It also means that once these crystals are taken and refined (cleaned and polished), then focusing mana into them will create light, and obviously serve as a catalyst for spells!

Any questions, feel free to ask!))

So, to get this straight..

- It adds not bonus to spell casting past a length from the caster which the spell is emitted.

- It does not act as a legitimate focusing aid cognitively that would allow people to shoot pew pew while wounded

- It does not allow any additional enchantments or enchantment types to really be placed, it simply is just a emission point for a mage to produce a spell

Basically, I fear people will use this as a excuse for enchants that usually shouldn't work what so ever, such as people running around with weightless war mauls smacking people. Its just a location with RP explanation for why a mage might use the end of a staff as a emmision point for their magics, right?

(Again, requesting it to be super clarified. We all know how bad certain enchanters are on this server with what they do.)

I mean, if that's the case, then sure +1

Eyup! It only serves as catalyst, not an efficiency increase, or power increase. It can offer light, but that's about it for its "powers".

A interesting post, given role play and can serve as more dynamic areas throughout. Though coming from the "light" function of the crystal wouldn't that just mean in a MC standard to 'turn brightness up'. Through role play understandable would the light be powerful enough to scare nocturnal creatures that hide from most lights, or would the light not shine that much.

-

That being said, if someone has a form of contact of the crystal, how far away from the body can it still be used. As with can multiple people use the same focus crystal?

I mean, it just allows you to do anything you normally could.

So lets say your a fire evocationist and you shoot fireballs, you can create the fireball in you view distance right? So if you can see the crystal, you can make the fire evocate from the crystal, but you could anyways from the same location in the same function without the crystal. It just explains staffs.

As for mech representation, mech standard is abolished, its not relevant, but I mean sure you can if you feel that's how you want to RP it.
