The Exegesis of Lifeforce

The essence of life is all around. It dwells the grass; the trees; the wolves and the sheep they hunt. It coils with our blood, makes it warm and healthy and alive. That is the ambition of the essence of life, after all; it is the quintessence amok with darkness that keeps the world striving, an ever-present and existential system of order in which all beings must hold it bar they linger the unnatural, vile way of the world that all of mortalkind struggles to keep locked away.

It is said in the Doctrines of Dhurzûmkal that it was not the divines who were made the first life keepers of Aegis, but it was the element of lifeblood itself that the Creator invoked and spread across all realms in order to keep them aligned with the canon and universal function of that very same Maker's image; the perfect model of life and harmony, imbued with a most raw essence of creation - lifeforce. It is not known where lifeforce comes from now. The world very may have a limited amount, and when it all fades away and brings ruination to kingdoms and countless peoples, God would step down to cleanse the earth and renew the banks of antediluvian, dark-shaded power that lingered so strongly before. Or, it may be limitless - an element that cannot be purged, keeping the worlds alive even when shaken and broken by the wars of the mortal and the divine. Time aligns with life as it's brother - so if life is unending, those that threaten it would wither with passing centuries so the realms may become reborn again, and without the help of the Creator.

But these are simply claims, and then only facts that are known is that which stays true to the name of lifeforce; it is an existential force that embodies all life. Whether life is natural, and young and true or wretched and fleshless and furious and ornery, it is present, and it keeps those who hold it dear alive and well. Yet, it is a naive energy, malleable and moveable as if a puppet to the whims of strings. Lifeforce was discovered by the vile-minded long ago, and thus taken control of - giving birth to the first necromancers who would linger the mortal realms. Legends speak of primeval man awakening and stealing the power of the Fallen One, so that they may with great power become one with the Creator's coveted lifeblood. The Khôrgul, the first Wraiths of Aegis, were the first to discover lifeforce initially as mortal men, only to become the same as the quintessence they sought - everlasting and submerged with darkness. But these proto-necromancers became obscure with passing time, giving way to another generation that would come eras later.

The true nature of lifeforce is obscure and ambiguous. While necromancers may use it to raise the long-dead with stolen dark essence, they cannot heal with it; Clerics and Druids mend the wounds of the fallen, yet they do not use it. This confusing aspect in itself spans forth in volumes, where contradictions are abundant and puzzling. However, with what is known as solid, concrete fact had been formed into formulas and laws in which lifeforce had been known to follow, presumably since the beginning of time. They are as followed;

- The essence of dark may not be destroyed, only displaced and faded to return again one day. The torn flesh of men does not scar and heal over by itself -- thus lifeforce returns to nurture what is harmed, to slowly settle back into the body of mortals so they may naturally return to good health. This has been the true way of things.

- The essence of dark is not divine. All things were shaped by God, yet some things are not influenced by Him any longer. Though just as men may raise a sword, lifeforce can be raised just as high by keen mortals whose curiosities bring them closer to the dark arts. Or, the ambiguous nature of lifeforce may be exploited by the divine to fuel their own vague machinations.

- Without the essence of dark, life cannot live. Without the shadowed quintessence, the heart will not beat, the oak will not bloom, the wound will not mend, and the grass will not grow. Yet, most puzzlingly, with nothing to give life to, the world would be engulfed in a peaceful, yet oddly "lifeless" equilibrium -- lifeforce would simply submerge the realms into a sunless darkness, for if there is only stone and sky to make up the world, the essence thought to be limitless would fog all places with an impassable cloud of shadow; raw lifeforce, everywhere. This is what the Abyss is theorized to be, for there is such an utter lack of things to keep alive that lifeforce leaks from the world's center like misty water from a waterfall, entirely obscuring all things within the eternal Abyss.

- The essence of dark is not a fuel for any magic beyond Necromancy or any other art that utilizes it. A magi cannot summon a ball of fire from the Void using lifeforce, and a Druid cannot heal a wound with lifeforce.

- The essence of dark cannot be purged from existence, only when in its tainted, necrotic form.

- The essence of dark may prolong the life of the feeble for some time, but it will not make men immortal. Likewise, an excess of this essence will cause a mortal to become ensnared by cancers and tumors; undefined and uncontrolled growths that sap the body of its life as per the rapid growth of lifeforce within oneself. Only those who have mastered the dark, such as Liches and Wraiths, may defy time and become one with the quintessence they control.

These are the laws defined in the Doctrines of Dhurzûmkal, whom was the first to master lifeforce as the Wraith of Prophecy. Forever, they shall be true.

[ This will be the first revision and/or Necromancy clarification thread of several. ]

I support this! Not that there is much to support, as one cannot deny this. Why? Because it is a clarification of already accepted things, made clearer.

That made me like the whole thing. It's rather good stuff.
