Introduction

My idea was to have a follow up and conclusion to the harvester event that occurred in early-mid Vailor (Event is explained in ‘Context of Lore’) as background lore for this idea. Obviously, I’m no LM. I did have difficulties writing some of this up over the fact that, I don’t know what the Lore Team already has planned. I don’t know if using the harvester event as a base is even viable anymore, nor do I know what I’m allowed to do regarding the limits of Aengudaemonic powers. I understand that the Lore Team do a lot regarding a map change so, while I have written lore as ‘how’ this could work, the main point of this post is to offer up the map style while additionally offering possible lore behind it. So be sure to check the OOC Pitch below.

I have also heard rumors that the next map is already in production. Whether this is true or not, I'd still like to propose the idea.

OOC Pitch

Spoiler

[Insert realm name starting with A] is a vast continent accompanied by countless amounts of other floating islands. For the majority of the land, the depth would be as a normal map of 62 layers from the sea level along with mountain ranges and all sorts of naturey stuff. Having a layer of bedrock on the bottom would probably be for the best with the possibility of getting a GM to remove said bedrock incase you want to throw a crazy wife (Or husband. I’m not sexist) down a moondoor.

From talking to many people, I realize a lot of people may not like a high fantasy setting, while some just not wanting a large change to effect their usual RP. To try and lower issues, I’ve made sure nation capitals require to be on the mainland and you could look at the idea as if it were an ordinary map, but with the edges cut off. Let’s take Vailor. Take out the outer ocean and blocks/bedrock. Done!

General idea is that, it’s just like an ordinary map. But in the sky. Only difference is, the edge of the continents are the end of the map. However, there is much more potential with this style of map.

ET/LM’s can add extra islands as they see fit to help with events and quest lines. There is the potential to add different levels of large landforms as well which can be seen in the above picture. During the map the floating continent could slowly break apart and create more of these different levels of land.  It could add something interesting the guilds with bases on their own little island, as long as the land itself is accessible to all in some way.

I would like to note though, nation capitals would not be allowed to be on their own island, and would be required to stay on the mainland. This is to make it so nations at war cannot have a safe haven. Sure the nation can have a town or base on an island, but not the capital.

Which then brings me to Elytra, the glider wings added to the 1.9 update. These would work amazingly with this style of map where you have to reach other sections of floating land. Different types of creatures could see more of an appearance such as Sky Whales, which could be an option for Fast Travel animals if we were to require it.

What’s more is the possibility of using the land that was left as an RPly accessible area. I won’t go into specifics what is down there, but if players were to traverse back down to the land, it could also prove useful for events and such, while not being habitable for players to try and stay for a long term period.

Also, you cannot use water flow to safely get to the surface…

Context of Lore

Spoiler

So the harvester event was the cause of the volcano eruption, smoke covering the sky and the plague. After the plague was cured, the event was then cancelled by the Lore Team for unknown circumstances. The story behind it was, according to the Archaengul, Gazardiael, ‘The Veil’ holding back Wrath would break open unless souls were harvested. The Veil to my belief was a Verge Portal, the bridge between the two mortal plains, Aerios and Axiom. Wrath who I and many believe to be Iblees is trapped in Aerios which was the plain in which Aegis was. On the server, we are currently in Axiom, as were the other maps after Aegis.

The plague that occurred during the event was to be the mass harvest of souls, having only a select few characters being immune to the sickness. While Clerics and Druids were told by their deity's that they were to protect the harvesters in their duty, the Paladins and Ascended were told they were bad! This went on to cause a bit of conflict rp and once the plague started, the paladins went on to cure said plague. This is where the event was cancelled. Due to the plague and Harvesters failing to harvest the required souls, the shattering of the veil would have occurred, resulting in Iblees returning.

Lore

Spoiler

The Veil is breaking. Iblees’ influence has begun to seep out from the cracks, causing the land to change. This in turn would be displayed by the rumbles felt by all (See ‘The Vision’). Upon the complete disintegration of the veil, Iblees would  initiate a calamity upon the plain of Axiom. Most noticeable effect in Vailor would be the eruption of volcanos along with earthquakes. This destruction would not be limited to Vailor however. His machination would slowly spread to all corners of the mortal plain. Vailor, being a rather small realm compared to the rest of the plain, its destruction would occur at a relatively quick rate.

Knowing that this is to occur due to the mortals not completing the harvest, and not allowing the plague to finish the job, Gazardiel would send them all a message. One to their conscious minds, and a vision into the unconscious for them to prepare to flee the realm (See ‘The Vision’). After sending this message, Gazardiel would begin his own preparations of raising an entire continent from the mortal plain.

Once the boats have been built and the mortals flee the destruction of Vailor (and depending how long transition takes) and get close to a new land, Gazardiel, after much preparation would raise a new continent, using pieces of the visible land and earth from below the ocean (See transition event). Due to the large waves passing by earlier, some of the land raised from the ocean would yield grassland and trees.

At the centre(?) of this land would be a huge ice mountain. During the winter, due to the altitude of the continent, the already frozen mountain would condense the water within the clouds before freezing it which would create a visibly growing effect. During the warm seasons, this ice would melt which then streams throughout the continent which in turn, allows for the infinite supply of water flowing off of the floating land, down to the surface.

Scattered across the land, a few tunnels would be present which act areas where large quantities of water filter through, falling to the surface.

o97Yusw33H4Wl954FCYSEJwwu4emZnRGv-SMecr2

The surface of Axiom after a while would be completely consumed by Iblees’ wrath, turning it into a tainted landscape.

NIxYwAPb-Rjbu92XfwS-ZP5c_Q6oYSdPJTpJGvAh

Iblees’ power does not have the ability to make direct contact with the floating continent, However, it is not unheard of for minions of his to show up on the rare occasion to attempt to spread his asperity (Mainly for event purposes if ET/LM’s wish to make something happen.). So unless the mortals traverse to the surface themselves, they will not confront Iblees on any level, apart from the odd minions that show up.

While the surface is traversable, one cannot survive there for an extended period as they will be subject to the attacks of Iblees’ minions, searing dust storms and toxic gas.

The new land wouldn't not be lacking new flora or creatures. Due to the new altitude, many new types of life have become known.

Flora:

Ice rose.

Spoiler

02x97VMVKBxvgOGNasXMK2EsRMGdu3wFLgI6CcBz

This flower would only grow during the cold seasons, or other where it is cold all the time. This flower would have the form of a rose, expect the petals appear in various shades of blue, growing a darker shade as temperature gets lower along with having a soft luminescent glow, only noticeable when it is dark. The flower thrives off having its petals frozen at all times, instantly wilting if the petals were to thaw. Because of the frozen nature and the very rare droplets of water running down its stem, them Ice Rose never requires watering! If one were to find a way to keep it frozen, it would prove to be a very beautiful gift.

In summary, if the ice on the mortals were to melt, the flower will and would not yield the following representations in alchemy, and prove to be useless.

Water symbol.

Moderate strength. (Rare to find during non-winter months.)

Representations: Beauty, freezing, fragility.

Soultie:

Spoiler

These grey, very light and aerodynamic styled flowers would start growing as a normal flower would. However, these flowers would only grow at the edge of the continent. Right before the petals bloom, the Soultie would break away from its own stem, awaiting a gust of wind to take it off the edge of the continent. If the flower is taken over the edge, it'd use the updrift of wind to simply float at a stable level of height. At the force of the updrift, the budding flower would break open to display it's twisted, white petals. Due to the volatility of the direction of wind, it is rare for the flower to be blown into the right direction, making finding it floating off the edge rather hard. It is also a very dangerous flower to try and collect, as there is a possibility of the collector falling off the edge!

If one were to inhale the fumes of burning the petals of a soultie or consume them directly, the consumer would feel an adrenaline rush which would last a few minutes before being met with a faint feeling of depression which lasts for a couple hours. Due to this, the substance is highly addictive.

Air Symbol

Strong

Representations: Flight. Death. Strength

Hanging Moss:

Spoiler

This deep green coloured moss with small red dots would only grow at the bottom of floating land forms. It thrives off of the underlying airflow and seeping water from above. While it is quite common, it is rather difficult to collect due to where it is found. This moss would cause an odd reaction with animals when it comes in contact with the skin. When this occurs, the skin would seem to puff out and bloat a noticeable amount. Nothing enormous though.

Earth symbol

Weak

Representations: Expansion, Life

Seeker’s Silence

Spoiler

GsgjnAG-8U7OAbnz8t4CBzihFHR3ep-3shzsKgZ3

One of the most unique and rare flowers to be found, if you could even call it a flower. Born from the corpse of a Valkyrie, these amethyst like crystalline flowers would take 5 years to bloom from the time of death of the Valkyrie in question. So this means, there can only be a potential amount of 8 of these flowers at a time.

A Seeker’s Silence would act as a light source, illuminating its surroundings as would a torch. An odd yet calm pulsing sensation would be felt as one would approach it and if one were to touch it, loss of voice and an unpleasant burning sensation across the entire body would be an effect for as long as contact is made.

Attempting to connect to the void while in contact with the crystalline flower would allow it to occur almost instantly, and with it the burning sensation would fade. In its place, an enormous amount more mana would be drained from the person, only allowing them to utilize a few seconds of void magic usage before needing to disconnect of fainting. This effect can only occur once per elven day, per flower.

Energy Symbol (Or Unknown)
Strength: Unknown
Representations: Death, Life, Illumination, Light

Creature

Valkyrie

Spoiler

VrsgRnrmO4iBJkrRRTyWc6FB_9j_4jgN8d5ftV5d
Although they are a rare sighting, the armoured female humanoid with wings would make the odd appearance within the skies. Their origin is clouded in mystery. Only clues, if one were to see one, would be that they all seem to fly from or towards one direction relative to the continent.

Valkyries would act as an ET/LM playable race, and servants of Gazardiel (Being event creatures means no, you cannot ftb with them.). With only being 7 Valkyries (Originally 8, one having already died), all are equipped with Aengulic armour (Like, literally, not profession based) despite their passive nature. They have a calm personality, although they are not creatures with set dialogue. They are separate being to all others, but while their purpose is unknown just as is Gazardiel’s, they will sometimes assist players who find a way to traverse to the surface, and protect them if needed, or if minions of Iblees make their way up to the floating continent.

While they would never be found threatening any person, they do defend themselves if a fight is brought to them, for whatever reason. Ground combat, they would prove to be formidable opponents against the likes of swordsman and marksman. Due to their heavy armour though, striking them with voidal magic such as fire, earth, water or electricity would prove highly effective in injuring the creature which then allows swordsmen to deal the final blows.. If the creature is flying, piercing the Valkyrie’s wings with an arrow or crossbow bolt would prove highly effective, bringing the creature down along with injuring it greatly. Voidal magic would not prove as effective against a flying Valkyrie as they are much more mobile which gives them a greater chance at dodging with the exception of electric evocation.

Upon death, their body, weapon and armour would deconstruct into ash which then begins the growth of a Seeker’s Silence in its remnants. Moving the ash or flower before it has bloomed will prove pointless, as the Seeker’s Silence will yield no effects in return.

The Vision (Beginning)

Spoiler

((My take on a vision post similar to

))

The once amber skies transformed into a vast expanse of jet black that engulfed the lands. A canopy of incandescent stars soon becomes visible amongst the ocean of darkness. A presence across would be felt across the land to all elves, dwarves, orcs, humans and the Kha. A rumble within the earth. While faint, an eery breeze would flow through the land as a familiar whisper in the back of the descendants minds would be heard.

The Veil shall open

Burning of the Flesh

The inevitable outcome of choices

The whispers would suddenly become incoherent, multiple words being spoken at once before it becomes silent for a short moment.

No land is free of His machination

So a land you shall not reside

The voice would then cease. All incoherent whispers along with it.

Should the descendants sleep, a vision that would not proves to be unfamiliar to those of older age would rush through their minds. Steel. Wooden planks. Sails.

An ordinary boat

However, in such vision, the boat would not sail upon water. Instead, upon clouds

r1HOaTyFeVeE2WChjyLN1imllnaz_JJ_-hcHGvlm

The voice would be heard for a final time before fading.

Feel Wrath’s fury should you not traverse

Build

Sail

The vision would end, the descendants being left with silence

Transition Event Idea

Spoiler

(Rough notes)

Over the week before the transition date, the rumbles across the land would slowly intensify. The volcanos would begin show signs of activity. On the day before or even a couple days before, an avalanche in the snow regions would occur.

---After writing this, it reminds me of Majora’s Mask for whoever has played it. Slowly the inevitable destruction creeps up. This would allow for RP that causes people to actually worry and show that yes, there is a need to get out. I found the whole worm event was just outta nowhere.---

When the transition event time strikes, two massive, simultaneous booms would be heard across the land. Ground shaking, the tides becoming unpredictable. The Dark Elven and Orcish volcano would have erupted. Aerial projectiles of magma and searing boulders would spread the entire realm.

---Ideas include placing them near RP hubs. Possibly burn some of the wood elven structures. Simply demolish others building in other capitals. Set trees alight. Throw about some RP items around certain areas for the heck of it such as ‘Hardened Magma Shard’.---

As people would flee to the boats, even more rumbles within the earth would occur. The landform splitting open (Earthquake) forming chasms and lava beginning to rise out from them and continue to cover the land. As far as any PvE (Or PvP against ET characters) events go like in the last transition event. As far as what as what creatures are attacking the players, you could choose from a variety of natural creatures from the creature index which are fleeing the area also and will prove act violent towards descendants who happen to be in their path.

Other events on the day could occur as rescues. ET’s, or even normal players who agree to help out could play the role of NPC’s who are being attacked by said creatures or their house has caught alight. It is up to the other players to rescue said people. If a transition map (Last time there was just the boats) was required, those who were successfully rescued could prove useful or helpful in some way should the ET provide further events during that transition map period.

Once boarded on the boats and sailed off, the opportunity to bring back The Devourer would show up. With earthquakes occurring, it would be sure to cause the creature distress along with causing large wave pulses within the water to raise and lower the boats to a large extent. The Devourer could knock some boats about. Maybe destroy the least manned one to which the players can swim to safety before the creature itself would escape the destruction of Vailor.

Once dev’s are ready to change the map over.

As soon as the players spot land, a storm would brew, the clouds stretching as far as the eye could see. The water upon which the boats lay upon would lurch. Waves mid-ocean would form, tilting the boats even further as they are hit with the ocean's fury.A continuous rumbles would begin as the boats would appear to get closer to the clouds, lightning beginning to strike. The strikes would light ablaze the sails of one of the boats. Closer and closer the boats would get to the clouds. (Perhaps global emote the clouds seem to be falling, all while the continuous ocean fluctuations and waves would continue)

Upon entering the clouds themselves, lightning strikes would occur around the entirety of the boats, possibly striking some. The groups of boats would begin to draw all towards one direction with no signs as of why as the clouds would disperse upon the ocean (They have gone above cloud level.). As the clouds clear and the clouds disperse, the view would become clear. They would all be getting pulled over towards a gorge of two high rock formations, the water clearly being suctioned towards it.

One boat would get wedged into the thin gorge, the other boats piling up behind it. Slowly the suction would cease as the gorge gap would fill. Behind the boats, out in the distance, more large rock formations would appear, creating a large, calm, circular sandy bay. This is where the players are then free to begin exploration.

I wouldn't mind having floating bits on part of our map but I don't want the entire map to be that. Too radical and restrictive imo.

So would this be the next map? I am a bit confused on this, also with the Elytra I believe it should take a tinker and lumberjack to craft a 'hang glider' and it should take some amount of time otherwise a metasquad will swoop out of no where on you.

I agree with Pie but if you fix that I'm 100% on board and think some good work could be done with this.

The sky whale master approves

edit: rivel used to be a floating landmass likes this, instead of being the entire map this could easily be a section of the map

Steam Airships. The LMT won't like this. ;)

I like the notion though.

My thought behind it was for most of it to be a single landmass. All nation capitals and such would be on the large landmass to avoid silly situations. Extra islands can be used things such as guilds, populated towns, events and such.

Yeah, next map idea. As for the Nexus requirements, no doubt dev team will figure it out.

Ok that makes more sense; though I am also of the mind that the novelty of the floating islands will wear off pretty quick. I'm worried that people would get bored and annoyed with a floating island map pretty quick. Perhaps the floating islands would be best suited as a "temporary" map in between two more "permanent" ones?

If this ever happens, the Dwarves could kiss their supreme defenses goodbye.

I really like this idea, I think if it's done correctly it could work as an affective permanent map. I think it'd work to have several (Maybe three or four?) huge landmasses and then a ton of smaller islands as well as all this new creature and plant life lore.

+1

Always right before I make a post with my own ideas, for a world of floating islands, someone else goes and makes one with very similar ideas.
