(( Small opening note. This is our take upon the previously removed contract magic, we’re taking a very different take with much greater restrictions and limitations. We hope you enjoy reading through it. ))

Lex

Pacta Sunt Servanda

Agreements must be kept.

A pact cannot be made unless both parties agree to the conditions.

A “mage” cannot incorporate unagreed upon terms after a pact has been made.

A contract cannot function without proper ritual.

Pacta Sunt Servanda.

Llahir - The Trickster

(( OOC note, this is previously accepted Daemon but has unfortunately remained shelved for several years now. We’re attempting to slightly refine some of the details of this daemon to make him able to be unshelved and used among the server once more. ))

Llahir, The Lost Daemon, one of tricky, luck and theft. Often symbolised through the insignia of an open lock, floating feather or a single eye engaged within a helix. Unlike his immortal kin he is lost among the abyss of time as his position, presence and power remains lost to the other daemon, hence the title. Some have come to believe that he perished within mortal form whilst others believe he is merely a dagger's blade away, patiently awaiting the perfect occasion as he toys with his prey.

AtbeGDJYMhC1e4Lai9H9l5P_2F1TR_pAI-XN54tN

Nevertheless he remains far away from the malicious path of his brethren as he does not wish to see the world coated within flames, or beneath his thumb as he rests upon a mighty throne. In reality his goal resides within the trickery and deceit of others, inspiring chaos within every crevice of reality through acts of varying degrees and never truly being inspired by a single purpose. Whether it to ruin the life of a single mortal, to bring an entire city to its knees, his drive is merely influenced by the way of the blowing wind.

His drive for chaos made him retain mortal form for considerable time, ambling through the many roads and cities merely looking for inspiration. However as time passed, the clock handle ever spinning, his memory started to wane. First, a mere few memories lost but as further leaves fell from trees his entire existence came beneath scrutiny. What he is and was locked beneath the scrutiny of his now mortal self, unable to truly access the capability that lay within. His drive, his mortal form, he desire, would soon to be his downfall. An unfortunate encounter leaving him struggling to breath and natural instinct dragged him back towards his true realm of existence. His memory slowly coming to be restored, his strength siphoning back but.. Still unable to manifest as flesh and blood once. His love for mortalship stripped away, his natural urge for chaos and deceit stripped from him as he remained locked within his own prison.

The Lost Daemon’s Compendium

Within his mortal time, as his memory faltered and his multiple faces became moulded into one, a single object would retain his thoughts, ideas and faces. The compendium was an infinite tome of Llahir’s writing, each page another adventure into the twisted and chaotic thoughts of the godly but restrained being. Should a page be torn, lost or withered any memory or life associated with it shall be also be gone; the daemon and the compendium are one of the same entity. A solution to life hiding behind mortal hood.

A single page from his compendium, one of many.

* * *

“The gentle sound of rain flowing with the chilling northern winds that blow after the passing of the great freeze would finally be filled with a new sound; that of powerful thunder booming as a new season arrives. The darkened skies would be changing now as the Sun’s Smile’s spring storms wash the normal litter that crusts the edges of the streets within the merchant capital of Petrus. A single hooded figure, unnoticed amongst the rest, would bump through the seemingly endless crowds whom are making their way to shelter.

Each passing gaze that would meet his would find what seems to be a lost man, but their faces to him would be but a blur. The blurred vision he had would double, losing himself as he’d bump into walls fabricated by his ailing mind. His sight would darken, and the the whole world would be swirling as he grew nauseated, knees weak, and arms heavy. The man would raise a hand to his sunken face, rubbing bleary and drooping eyes devoid entirely of sleep.

His mind drifted to a whole other place, a time perhaps, that’s all he could piece together. His body moving on it’s own pushing itself forward to a window shop, a bookstore. This hollowed man would peer downwards at what he’d believe is comforting. His eyes would fixate over this large leather bound book, reaching out as if it were apart of himself, a lust to possess it again.

What does he seek, why does he want to possess this strange book, even when he knows it isn’t the true item. Or mayhaps, he does not seek anything at all, and his curse is to wander the vast nothingness with a search to only know why.”

* * *

Within such were what came to be known as the rules, once used to define his actions as a mortal and now used to define that of others.

Secta  -  The Method

Unlike other deity magic you’re never one to be imbued with power. The strongest of the Lex hold no greater internal power than the newest, however what does change is Llahir’s trust and will he invests within you. To advance you must continue to become his agent of chaos and make more contracts, from there he shall enforce more potent pacts/contracts.

To establish a contract between two, or a single person, you must first utter the terms. The terms must follow the compendium rules and all involved parties must agree to the terms presented to them, upon such being established then a single phrase is muttered.

“Pacta Sunt Servanda.”

This is the communicative phrase to almost ‘speak’ with Llahir. The Lex never truly established the contract but is merely an advancing catalyst to Llahir’s will, he shall always form the influence and power behind a contract and also be the influential authority of such. Failing to meet his rules, his terms, shall mean the contract does not become established.

Nuntius - The Pact of Communion

(( The method of teaching, available after the teaching limit. ))

The way one becomes established within the way of Lex. A trusted individual will be blessed by Llahir to bring others onto the path. To do such a pact is formed, one that follows all the rules of the compendium, the capability to form pacts at consequence of needing too. Disobey during this time and fear having your pact revoked. .

Vicarius - The Proxy

With agreement of a third party, the consequence/benefit of a contract may be brought upon another. Although a contract must always be fulfilled who takes upon its acts does not matter. As long as they’re aware of the full conditions, and agree, then they may take upon the rules. Llahir is also unlikely to accept the proxy should the consequence not relate to them, the loss of an arcane mages knowledge to a knight? His terms must always be met, reward cannot be without cost.

This can be done at any time after the pact/contract has been established, and may often to some bring an interesting turn of events. Shall another enduring the consequence merely for your benefit?

Compendium  -  The Rules

I) Permutatio The Equivalent Exchange.

For that which is given, must be returned.

In return for that which we offer you must define something to take also, balance must ensue throughout anything else. Anything we grant to another must be returned of equal strength, either within the present or the future, to another or to yourself.  An example of such is granted someone immediate strength, however mere weeks later they shall be frail, weak and withered.

II) Contra The Counterpart.

The return must relate to that which was given.

The benefits you may grant, must be partnered with a similar drawback. They cannot be entirely opposites such as increased strength for the inability to lie, but instead for instance; in granting someone arcane strength, they shall become weaker than ever after a single week. In forcing one into truth, another must be forced to lie. To take away illness, it has to be given to another.

III) Veritas The Reality.

Reality defines all, to defy it is impossible.

All semblance of reality must be held accountable when a contract is made. To inadvertently or intentionally breach an agreement established then the individual will be held liable to conditions and their reality. For example, if within the clause created in case the contract was breached you were to die. Then ultimately that individual would one day meet their fate through whatever means that may be.

IV) Fulcio The Upholding.

The words we issue cannot falter.

Once an agreement is made, it must continue until fulfilled. We cannot interrupt the process within play and to attempt such would be shunned upon; the cycle of the words is one bound by the infinite power of time itself.

V) Adverto The Punishment.

To attempt to break the rules, shall not be ignored.

The rules are there to define, control and restrict what we may do. Those that attempt to break them, and even more so those that find the rare success in doing so are subjected to the will of the spirit. They may be stripped of their capacity, punished with a contract or perhaps even face the gates of death.

Retorta  -  The Aberrant Pacts

(( These are pacts that are slightly more questionable/powerful within their nature, thus require MD/LD approval before they may be used within RP ))

There are certain pacts that hold such significance and power that they should not be taken lightly, and to even consider using such it must be approved by the grace of Llahir. The terms spoken within private, and the catalyst phrase muttered.. He shall show you if his approval has been earnt.

Pacts of Life

Life is a tricky and delicate concept.

Any pacts which try to control life, for instance bringing back a person from a state of eternal death, must be thoroughly approved by Llahir. Although feasible another must trade placement with the soon to be returned, embracing the eternal night for the return of one lost.

(( More shall be introduced as concerns arise around certain functionality of this magic type))

Documen  -  The Examples

The Pact of Truth

Whilst one speaks the truth, another can only lie.

This pact implies a connection between two, often used to prove the innocence of one. However as one may only speaks words of truth for twenty four elven hours another is constrained to lies. Can one truly interact with people, knowingly unable to turn their tongue away from the twisting lies?

The Pact of Mending

Wounds may be cleansed, yet at what cost?

One inflicted with a wound, an illness, or harm may lose such. They may be cleansed of all that hurts them however, it cannot just disappear. Another must take the place as a victim, another must take upon the wound of his peer. Suffering must be paid by suffering.

* * *

“It is quite simple…” Artius drawled, the eldritch being’s lower mandible hangs in a dreadful sense of anticipation. Two sapphire orbs burned within its skull as they peer over the quivering father; a young boy within his arms, his breathing becoming more and more labored as they held their dealings. “Save my son… let him live. You have the power to…” the father bows his head before the lich in shame. “No my friend.... I do not. But together we can save your son.” the lich quickly interjects, with the flick of its wrists now creakily kneeling before the man . The young boy barely opens his eyes to see this mysterious broker his father deals with  for the fever is soon to take him, “Pacta Sunt Servanda.”  it utters rising to loom over the father and son. A long silence would befall the household, only Artius would be seen swaggering out from the pauper’s home; candle light flickering in its window. Only a shadow cast of a wailing boy laying over his father remains.”

* * *

The Pact of Strength

Great strength, for great weakness.

For a single week the muscle and resilience of one shall grow beyond all possible thought, easily taking down a foe within a fist fight, or perhaps claiming victory upon that tournament. However after a few elven days it’d quickly come to wither; their mighty strength taken away by withering muscles.. Soon becoming weaker than ever before. A large cost for a small victory?

The Pact of Arcane

Enhancement through loss.

Similar to the pact of strength within nature, an arcane mage becomes afflicted with a significant buff (similar to that of a blood mage) for a few days. Casting spells with ease, yet when such a time period comes to end then they shall lose months of learning. Once more, a useful tool, but for how long?

Acies - The Red Lines

A slightly more OOC based section to help better define the rules and procedures of using this magic.

I) The rules do not just represent IC belief but also OOC restriction, any pact/contract formed must follow the regulations within place and to break such will imply the contract/pact will not work.

II) This magic requires a lot of creative input, loosening the restrictions to a specific spell list. In turn you are responsible for the roleplay that you provide, it should be engaging and interesting to all parties involved and not used to merely empower friends using loopholes.

III) Consequence must always be enforced through the contract/pact as that as what Llahir demands, he is an agent of chaos and to deny him that right would mean he would deny yours.

IV) The fifth rule is not just an IC/OOC restrictions but a means of control for the MD/LD teams. If they believe someone is breaking the rules of this magic or going too far, they have roleplay sufficient means of implementing punishment and/or the removal of magic.

V) A Lex of several months holds not greater power than one of mere days, the only factor that changes is Llahir’s trust of you as a one of his catalysts. You only ever speak with him, you never force him.

VI) In using a proxy the person must always be aware in both RP and OOC the consequence/benefit they’re becoming involved within. It can never be forced upon another, for both reasons of IC and OOC.

VII) The aberrant pacts must always be approved through the MD/LD beforehand, otherwise cannot be used. The roleplay explanation is that Llahir denies the opportunity to use such.

I think it's a well done rework, it'll be quite an uniquely interesting dark art on the server.

I think this is utterly fantastic! Great re-hash of Contract magic :D

How will this fit with the "no more magics" rule, however?

Hope and pray a re-write doesn't fall beneath that rule.

May I first say this lore brings joy to me.

Second, as this magic is directly given by the deity to create chaos this will not take up a magic slot? As the person has no real power.

Third, what of the previous existing contract magic users, I understand this is completely different.

(Lets say, shamanism was removed and arcane evocation was just accepted you couldn't transfer(gf) into it).

But more so, users of the art prior, would have some knowledge if still interested to learn and or would they be the first of people to acquire a 'test' for this lore?

Last question. With these types of contracts, are you able to bind the use of blood to put it in stasis, as a conditional part for "chaos" to be brought onto fray if the contract had it written? For conjunction use for soul puppetry.

-=-

Also I hope that even though you're an admin you don't get a "by-pass" to the magic rule set in place, regardless of how good the lore is. Maybe sometimes exceptions can be made as this was a previously accepted magic just with a twist?

It'll still take up a magic slot due to the significance of what it can do, just because the person isn't empowered doesn't mean it isn't powerful.

The difference is too much for people to be grandfathered in, it'd really need to be learnt again because of the massive differences. This is both from an RP point of view, and also an OOC. I mean-- even the power source differs.

Regarding the soul puppetry, I'm really unsure. Its very different to prior contract magic with greater restrictions on what it can accomplish, the idea of 'stasising' blood doesn't really make sense with this newer variations.

I would hope not! I thought this being a re-write meant it wasn't regarding that rule, maybe not?

The Compendium plays a major part in the creation of a pact,

so long as a contract follows "Da Rules" it could become a possibility.

So any ideas for pacts can be submitted and just might be added to Abhorrent Pacts!

Me and Dan are around and ready to take questions!

Loving the lore being pumped out lately. I'd like to see this return so hopefully this'll be given consideration in lieu of the no new magic rule.

Liches such as Artius can't learn deific magic, and I'm also quite sure that they can't use it as well.

Other than that, it's a good piece of lore; and I don't have enough knowledge of the old contract magic to compare the two. However, I think it'll probably fall to the No More Magics rule, as it would still be adding another magic that is not currently implemented. Then again, it might not.
