Virtuoso's Elixir

Description and effects:

The Virtuoso's Elixir is a swirling cyan concoction most rare and expensive-to-make, said to heighten a user's musicality and creativity to near-mythical levels, able to transform even laymen into musical geniuses or abstract masters of their craft, and to offer entirely new understanding to old concepts for those already versed. There are many varieties of the potion, however, leaving the 'perfect' depiction of the brew to nearly a legend in rarity. While many of its specific effects cater to musicians, the increase in creativity and related thinking can be applied to other crafts, or even just the world around oneself.

Lesser:

A Lesser Virtuoso's Elixir is one crafted with sub-par reagents, fewer ingredients, or with notable impurities, leaving a concoction both wondrous and vile, more equal to a narcotic than a practical potion. When used, a Lesser Virtuoso's Elixir will produce the effect of heightening a person's musical and artistic ability greatly, while additionally addling them severely, causing slurred speech, impaired inhibition, and difficulty pondering anything that does not relate to their chosen art or the music around them. Their mind swims, and begins interpreting sounds and experiences around them as 'music' and forming oddly concrete patterns with nonsensical thoughts that are not usually meant to logically be connected. This is a highly confusing, but occasionally pleasurable experience.

Repeated users of the impure potion find themselves drawn to addiction to it, as its use can be euphoric and strange, while causing them to feel as though they are not able to perform or think creatively without it, until they are no longer able to function without it. Unfortunately, almost everything the person may have learned or thought up while they were under the potion's effects is lost to them once they come down from its bizarre high, contributing validity to such thoughts of inadequacy.

( TL;DR strung out artists who can't perform without their vice )

Optimum:

The elixir in its intended state is one that grants the drinker a substantial boon to creative thought, musical sensitivity, and understanding. Those under its effects find melodies and art coming smoother and more confidently to them. Things that are normally hidden within them have a way of flowing freely and pleasantly, their thoughts and ideas laid before all, a near-empathic connection forming between them and their art. A man who has watched his father play the lute for years may suddenly find he understands now how his father produced his melodies; A woman may find greater control over her voice and tone, easier to sing beautifully with.

Like the lesser variety of the potion, there is a risk that one who drinks it often may begin to feel as though they are not able to perform to their fullest without it. Unlike the lesser, however, the concepts and practice that one gains while under the optimum potion's effects are kept once the boon to their creativity has left them, leaving them legitimately more skillful in their chosen art, making the potion wondrous indeed to one attempting to learn a new craft. They cannot outright learn a new instrument overnight, however.

( TL;DR a good, useful potion if used in moderation )

Greater:

The Greater Virtuoso's Elixir is nearly a potion of legend, alongside the likes of the Elixir of Life, to Alchemists with a bardic inclination. Not only does the potion grant a near-supernatural boost to creativity and musicality, but it also offers an intrinsic understanding of any instrument after seeing another perform with it even once. This miraculous talent comes with another effect; Those under the effect of the greater potion find the world around them interwoven in a beautiful sort of 'flow', somewhat the antithesis of the lesser variety's discordant, confusing addlement. Everything around them 'clicks', makes sense like reading a composition: All of its parts, interacting in perfect order, each complimenting the other. Many small things, working together to form the perfect orchestra of life.

This powerful experience is pure and comes without the jaded feelings of its lower-grade cousins, however it may still leave a person yearning for another, if only for the bliss of all things seeming to click together just-so. Its addiction is less direct, but more sinister; After such a powerful experience, it leaves a person with strong cravings to taste it again, often causing them to resort to impure batches in an effort to reclaim the feeling, effectively ensuring that they become addicted should such a thing transpire.

( TL;DR the embodiment of 'too much of a good thing' )

Song in a Bottle

Description and effects:

A mystical concoction born from the wave of essence-fueled alchemy, the 'Song in a Bottle' is a glowing admixture which, when exposed to sounds and vibration, seems to retain a hauntingly beautiful simulacrum of it, which may be released at a later date to be enjoyed.

To be ready to use, the potion must first be heated until warm, but never boiling. In this state, sound through the glass will be converted to memory within the magical concoction, up to a certain point. Depending on factors such as reagent quality and mixture purity, the maximum duration of memory could be up to two minutes. Throughout the process of encrypting such melodies, the potion's coloration will begin to mimic the auras of those around it, rendering somewhat of a 'signature' to the concoction.

Due to this method of conception, the potion is very vulnerable to heat, extreme or not: For that reason, it comes with an expiration date, with the average ambient temperature of somebody's shelf causing the potion to degrade completely in a matter of two years.

Once cooled, the potion need only be uncorked and its contents poured in order to function. The liquid will rapidly deteriorate into a fine, glittery powder when exposed to air, and the energy and memory it holds will be steadily released as it drifts upon currents of air. The sound the released potion creates is not at all similar in composition to what initially went into it; While its key ingredient is capable of reproducing a wide array of sounds, the process of brewing renders the result capable only of producing ethereal chiming and whistling sounds, unlike any instrument. Its melody remains the same, however, and can be quite beautiful nonetheless.

For clarification; No, speech rendered unto the potion will not come out legible when released.

( edit: ) To consume the Song in a Bottle would offer a tingly, tickly feeling down a person's throat, and persist for the entire duration of however long the memory was intended to be, being incredibly uncomfortable the whole way through. They may cough and choke, however it would not have any lethal consiquences. Also, they ruined the music.

Aqua Fero, a.k.a. Witch's Stock

Description and effects:

A backwoods substitute for the ever-popular alchemical distillate Aqua Vitae favored by those without the means to produce the refined reagents and advanced alchemical equipment such requires. Aqua Fero, or Witch's Stock. While Aqua Vitae is purified by basic, conventional sciences, Aqua Fero is purified through the metaphysical properties of alchemy itself.

With symbols of nature, clarity, and a bit of oddity donated by its key ingredient, it produces a similar product to its contemporary cousin; Pure, free of contamination, and a base worthy of advanced feats of alchemy... But, only to a certain extent. In potions where chance of failure is a factor, using Aqua Fero likely doubles the odds of things going poorly. Additionally, the negative effects of many potions may be found to be amplified by an impure Aqua Fero.

Otherwise, the potion serves as an alchemical substitute to Aqua Vitae, crafted mostly with ingredients found in deep wild places, where one may have easy access to such things, but not the capabilities necessary to produce Aqua Vitae. Treehugger science.

( edit: ) Drinking the Aqua Fero solution would, incidentally, be less lethal than consuming a draft of Aqua Vitae. Aqua Vitae is a concoction of terribly potent alcohol, wheras its cousin is a proper potion. Thus, the only effects rendered upon a curious person is a lightly upset stomach and indigestion, until the potion has run its course.

Malicious 'Salve'

Description and effects:

Spoiler

A violent salve-like based substance that has an innocent green tinge to it. This oil can be applied to weapons and arrowheads, which induce their effects upon entering the bloodstream. Upon entering the blood-stream, this salve acts as a strong pathogen, which instantly goes to work in destroying red blood cells (if removed, the remnants of the blood cells seem to be a sludge-like greenish red tinged liquid). If induced into the bloodstream, it will begin to circulate around the body via plasma, killing red blood cells, one cut wouldn't do a lot, however the area around the cut would become quite squishy, and green in coloration. If a significant number of 'injections' (Cuts, Stabs or literal consumption) are induced on a victim, it will eventually kill the target.

Damage roughly to 'injection':

Spoiler

One cut - Cause a green colouration and intense pain around the inflicted area

Three cuts - Light-headed as less blood is able to carry oxygen to the brain

Four cuts - Loss of consciousness

Six cuts - Death.

Stabs work x2 as well as cuts, as the blade enters the body allowing the oil to get into the blood stream easier.

Ingestion of the oil will result in death, unless in small dose (Anything more than a small shot-glass is lethal, if you do take a shot-glass of it, you'll recieve intense pain and throw up repeatedly as your body struggles to remove it, your throat would feel as if it's being burnt and light shock would set in)

Pros and cons

Spoiler

Pros:

* one of the few designed poisons that aren't difficult to achieve however still require some work and knowledge of it in character

* has a drawn out use, meaning it has to be used repeatedly on a target, instead of just instantly knocking your victim out - Drawn out fight meaning the opposition has a chance - Fair.

Cons:

* If you don't use gloves and it manages to somehow enter your body, you will receive the same effects based on the amount of ingestion

* Has to enter the blood stream, slashing against a man in steel plate or chain-mail is useless.

Recipe:

Spoiler

Lard base, all symbols crushed up and mixed in aqua vitae, before lard kneaded into a bowl of it (wear gloves), once all ingredients and aqua vitae mixed into lard, let it sit out in the sun to dry for a short time, applied to weapons via rubbing the salve (has the consistency of Vaseline) over a weapon

1 Water Symbol: Fluidity

1 Fire Symbol: Chaos

1 Air Symbol: Travel

Aqua Vitae

(Yes I know Salve is something made to help people, it's just a cool name I wanted to give it because it looks innocent but is very dangerous)
