Jyor Volaren’s Warband confronting the Turkin inside the Harian duststorm.

History

Spoiler

(Axios)

The Rurikguard was formed upon the deathbed of what remained of the Ashguard come the downfall of Vilachia and the Dreadland remnants.  Ser Hakon Ruric had envisioned such a mighty force that could freely navigate the hellish landscape that was the Orenian Heartlands, and set ablaze with the vengeance of those who had been struck down by the Orenian war machine.  Hakon had however contracted illness and retreated to his shantyhome in the Dreadlandic foothills, leaving the camp of the now leaderless Ruric bannermen to their own ends near the Ruins of Vilachia.

The men sat in anxiousness and dwindled with supplies, leaving only the truly most loyal of warriors left in the camps when Prince Artyom had arrived to rally the leaderless bannermen.  The ashtree banners of House Ruric were a blessing directly from the All-Father himself to the skeleton crew left behind in the camp, instantly reinvigorating the lifeless and hungry men to the young visionary’s cause.  The Rurikguard had been revived.

Upon the most recent revival of the Rurikid guardforce, the Rurikguard as it was dubbed under Prince Artyom, was to be made up of a dual light and heavy cavalry division, with Lancers and Bowmen being in the supporting rank of each division.  With this tactic in place, upon entry to the Rurikguard each shall receive a Ruric Warsteed, along with powerful lances and wicked bows.  Each shall also receive either the thickly studded leatherwork of a Bowman, or an emboldened chainmail set, woven with strings of protective lace for the more heavy Lancer-type.

The unit was in sole possession of Prince Artyom Ruric following the collective gathering in the Dreadlands, and henceforth returned to the Orenian heartlands of Johannesburg to wage war with what remained of the defense.  They saw particular bloody conflict with their cousin Baldur the Black, son of their nation’s previous Champion who stood against him with their Black Legion.  Upon their initial conflict, the Rurikguard made a complete route of the legionnaires, blooding the recruits they had amassed along the way to the heartlands, and receiving extra armaments to add to their horde being amassed in what would later to be founded as The Krag.

The Rurikguard were among those present upon Johannesburg’s descent into blue fire.  The fight had been uncostly to the recently amassed force, and the action they saw prepared them for what savagery would sprout forward next, an unruly sort that arrived from the Asulian Badlands...

The Battle of the Sand

(9 Rurikguard vs 28~ Turkin & Harian Forces)

The Rurikguard had been tracking the Turkin Raiders that had last saint week had attempted a sack of Ostermark, only to be repulsed by his defendants after they had slaughtered an elfen daughter of Uther Grimlee.  For such trecherous actions, the Raiders had been tracked and pinned in the Kharadeen Capital of Haria.  Jyor Volaren, having grown disgruntled with waiting for the Turkin Raiders, sallied his forces and stormed inward only to be met with a vastly larger force of Turkin Screamers.  Unphased, Jyor stood even when the Kharadeen guard jumped from the walls to join the Turkin against the Rurikguard… what ensued afterward was absolute butchery.

Headed back to the Krag from their recent victory, the Rurikguard enjoyed a few saint days of relative peace, however it would only be plagued by the continued loom of the Turkin menace growing ever restless inside the hotbed of radicalism that was the Wastelands of Asul.  Such unwarranted provocation of faith was made ever vigilant to the Red Brothers, acting in accordance with the All-Father’s will, they had declared Holy War upon the ilk of Turkin, rallying all to the Ashtree banner to challenge this menace to the flock of the All-father.  The war has only just begun…

Unbloodied

“Remaining ever vigilant are the hordes of the All-father, for there will always be those to champion his banner, fresh uncut men to wage his wars…”

The Unbloodied is the initiate rank to the Rurikguard, most new recruits never making it past this stage.  They have yet to wage battle or claim victory in one, and are oftentimes treated with disrespect from the higher ranked until they’ve proven themselves.

The Marauder is a bloodied combatant of the Rurikguard.  It is said most proven fighters will embrace the life of a Marauder for many years before further seeking higher favor.  To plunder, pillage, and slay in the name of the All-father, truly a weapon to be respected among all of those in the Guard.

The echo of footsteps can be heard as Erik paces back and forth in the empty hall within the Ruric's keep.  He turns to Jyor, and exclaims "My friend, I know you are loyal to the Ruric, but I beg you once more.  The Reyurnt's deserve an equal guardforce to ensure the safety of our Jarldom as well.  Please oversee both forces and aid us in protecting the whole of Norland, not simply just The Krag"
