INTRODUCTION

Now! Let's begin on the step by step process on creating a persona tailored by yourself! The definition of persona is 'the aspect of someone's character that is presented to or perceived by others.' There are many different and unique personas played on the LOTC server, played by people all around the world, creating their own adventure that's like no other. A persona consists of a name, personality, and their strengths and weakness, which all effect their actions and choices. Now, let's get into giving a brief description of the different aspects of a persona.

Spoiler

Name:

The name of your persona is a crucial part of creating a persona, and is the name people will refer to you as when roleplaying!

Race:

The race of your persona is what creates a division between other personas, each having distinct physical characteristics, cultures, languages, and etc.

Personality:

Your persona's personality is what drives their choices and actions, their thoughts and behavior. It's what makes everyone's actions unique.

Skins:

Your skins is usually uniquely tailored for your persona, and is used as a visual representation for others.

RACE SELECTING

To begin, let's select the race you'll like to roleplay as, which can vary between humans, elves, dwarves, orcs and much more! Each race has it's own features that makes it different from one another, each having their own style, language, culture and ways of life. Selecting the race first is the most logical order at the moment because you're name may vary depending on the race you've selected, each name tailoring to its specific race.

Spoiler

Here are some of the many races available for new players:

 1. Humans

Neither good nor evil, but susceptible to both. Humans are the most diverse race and the most adaptable to changes in the environment. They are the most numerous, yet the most short lived of all the races. The Humans have had the most nations of any race. They are usually driven, curious, and always pushing to expand and grow on what they have created.

"It's the only race that caters to me. I belong to the Westerlands and it's pretty zealous and god-fearing RP which is personally enjoy." - Gucko (Event Team)

 2. Elves

The Elves are a beautiful, tall and ancient race. They can easily be recognized by their pointy ears. If you meet them in combat, be aware that they are keen, agile, and excellent shots with a bow. Elves consist of three sub races, which are wood elves who live in Linandria located in the Dominion, high elves who live in Haleunor and dark elves who live in Ker'nor.

"I enjoy playing an elf because it has one of the most freedom, and that it has one of the freest society and culture among the server. It represents default fantasy to me, and that I enjoy the sparkles that come from interacting as elves with others." - Shimmeringbliss (Wiki Moderator)

 3. Orcs

In the harshest deserts you may find the Orcs. They have adapted to the unforgiving conditions of this environment. If you meet an Orc, be scared. These green muscular creatures don't even need weapons to destroy their prey. The most important things to them are hunting and their tribes. Orcs and Dwarves both share hatred and respect for each other, and let's not forget their love for a good fight!

"I enjoy playing an orc because you can be unique and free. You can kill, raid and trade drugs, yet people won't give a damn about whatever you're doing." - Sandk1ng (Member)

 4. Dwarves

Food and war are the most important things for the Dwarves. These short, stubborn, and passionate miners don't care too much about the other races. Just like the Orcs, they LOVE war. Even though they hate each other, they also respect each other just as much. They live in great underground cities where they can establish many mines and celebrate the finding of ores with ale.

"I enjoy playing a dwarf because of its unique race, they're tough and the other dwarf roleplayers always seem active and ready to rp. Dwarven culture is Lord of The Rings, but has a nice indie vibe. I like how the dwarves have accents and base themselves in the mountain." - Agamm (Member)

 5. Kharajyr

The Kharajyr are a graceful, proud, and strong people. They make their homes in great jungles where they can honor their gods and live in a tight-knit community. The Kharajyr are more likely than not to conflict with those of the Descendent races, due to the their immense pride. They usually reside in the Karakatuan Empire.

NAME SELECTING

After you've selected which race you'd like to roleplay as, you'll need to create a unique, and interesting name that'll be used to identify your character! When deciding what name you're going to use for your persona, you'll need to take into consideration what race you're playing as well. For example, humans will most likely have common names, while elves, and dwarves will have rather interesting names that may be hard to pronounce. Usually, if someone was playing another persona's child, then their parent will decide their name, but if you're creating a new persona, you'll be able to choose your name for yourself!

PERSONALITY

Your persona's personality is the combination of characteristics or qualities that form an individual's distinctive character, which help shape their actions, choices, behavior, attitudes. Personality can differ, based on their past or something they enjoy to do on a daily basis, and personalities can also consist of negative traits as well, now let's begin customizing your personality!

Spoiler

Let's start with building up the positive sides of your personality!

Some positive personality traits are:

  • Being honest no matter what the consequences are is one personality trait people should aspire to.
  • Having responsibility for all of your actions and being a little bit of a perfectionism are also personality traits.
  • Adaptability and compatibility are great and can help you get along with others.
  • Having the drive to keep going, and having compassion and understanding are positive personality traits.
  • Patience is a virtue and also another trait.
  • Getting up the courage to do what’s right in those tough situations and loyalty to your friends and loved ones are also personality traits.

These all are personality traits that are used to help build interesting characters and unique roleplay!

Now! Let's move onto building up negative sides of your personality!

Some negative personality traits are:

  • Being a little messy is hardly a deadly sin, but a lot of people equate it with being unproductive
  • Having a big ego is often looked down upon, but it comes in many forms, such as being arrogant and self confidence
  • Too many people view shyness as a weakness. Sure, being overly shy can cause you to miss certain opportunities, but it comes with its own strengths, such as being more reflective
  • Being distracted can make it hard to focus on your work—hey look, a squirrel!—but it can also help you be more creative.
  • For every 10 hard workers out there, there is one too lazy to do work—so he finds a way to automate the process instead.
  • Nobody likes a Negative Nancy, but a healthy dose of pessimism is good. Thinking about everything that could go wrong helps you plan for those situations, and ultimately avoid them.

These personality traits show that of negative ones, adding another layer to your persona's character!

Using a combination of these traits, you'll be able to fully build up your character, as well as identify their strengths and weakness based on their personality. Now! We have your person's name, race and personality!

APPEARANCE

Next! We'll begin on the appearance of your character! Though, your appearance can be portrayed from your minecraft skin, you'll want deeply describe how your persona looks like, because you can't really capture EVERY detail of your persona through a minecraft skin. Describing appearances can vary between clothing, to tattoos, and can be used to describe things that others can't really see from just looking at your minecraft skin as said before.

Spoiler

When describing your appearance, you must first think about what race you've decided because appearance differs based on the race you've chosen.

[Here's a link to the different races description, appearance, and culture] https://wikia.lordofthecraft.net/index.php?title=Category:Race

[If you're making your appearance based on your skin, please head to the next section and return!]

Appearances descriptions can vary between such:

  • Hair
  • Skin Tone
  • Eyes
  • Height
  • Weight
  • Body Type
  • Clothing
  • Tattoos
  • Scars

SKINS

The last step of finishing your persona creation is getting the perfect skin to match your appearance and getting one that's specific to your features of your persona! Skins help members of the server get an idea of what your persona may look like if we were in real life, it's used as another aspect of roleplay so we can make it as realistic as possible.

Spoiler

There are many ways to obtain a skin, either through internet, or through the wonderful LOTC community, with many awesome skinners who offer to make skins at a reasonable price, and sometimes for free! If you want to have a custom skin made for you, head to the forum section, or click the link located at the bottom of the spoiler, and if you're getting it from the internet, please make sure you get a skin that isn't a request for someone on the server. Usually, the skin has a label stating that no one else is allowed to use it on the server.

[You can request for skins in this forum, or apply at a skin shop for a skin to be made!] https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/forum/283-skins/

LOTC MEMBER ADVICE

To help further your creation of your new persona, I went out to members and staff of the LOTC community and asked them to prove advice to help new members, and old members looking to make a new and interesting persona! These are members who I felt have created unique, and different personas that I've enjoyed roleplaying with, and that form interesting emotes!

Spoiler

Here are some quotes from the members and staff of the LOTC community!

"When it comes to making a persona, make sure that you can relate to your character, even just a little bit. It's a lot easier to play a character that you can anticipate what their thoughts and actions might be! Perhaps your character will be sassy, emphatic, or adventurous. Pick a characteristic that you know and work from there!" - LadyRebecca (Game Moderator & Forum Moderator)

"Don't be edgy. No katanas (unless you're going to rp them properly like a real sword.), nothing unrealistic. Remember that we keep a level of realism when it comes to actions but keep a fantasy feel to it." - Nekkore (Game Moderator & Forum Moderator)

"Pick 3 flaws for your character. 1 mental and 1 physical and 1 extra. This gives you character something to overcome. Whether it's blindness, fears, or allergies. Make your character unique." - JadePetal (Member)

Have a backstory that fits the lore of the server, as well as helps explain how your character became how they are now. If  your character is afraid of lightning, it's worth explaining how and why they gained this fear. A good character will typically have a backstory that does not follow cliches and truly gives insight on the character’s life. Be unique and creative with your character’s backstory, but just remember we all have our good and bad times in life. Characters included.” - Farryn (Lore Master)

"When developing a new persona, its important to try and actively get involved. RP won't always come to you so don't find that discouraging, just take it as a means to go explore new places and find cool people to cure you of your boredom." - 6xdestroyer (Event Team)

"Start with an outline of your character but let RP dictate the path your character follow. Do not be afraid to take a loss or some consequences as those lead to the best RP experiences." - Cablam (Game Moderator)

"I would say the best thing a new wood elf can be is willing to assimilate into the culture, but also willing to flesh out their character and be different. Making your character emotional because she's a woman, for example, is weak story telling. Having them be sensitive to a subject due to a past trauma, is strong" - rosediode (Member)

Alright! This brings us to the end of the Lord of The Craft Persona Creation guide! I hope I was able to help many members create a fun, unique, and interesting persona! If you think I'm missing anything, or if there are any errors please don't hesitate to say in the comments!
