The Delvan Mushroom

82SFbrE.jpg

((Source))

Habitat: Swamps and Lakes

Many individuals seek to free themselves from the trappings of our world, and yet most fail, resigned to look above and watch the birds who have flown above their heads for all time.  And yet another has beaten man to flight, and it is a mushroom.

The Delvan Mushroom is a rare sight, even for those who know where to look. The shrooms themselves are small, stout plants, and emit a faint blue glow when in any low-light condition. They grow in clusters with an average of two per cluster. The clusters hover over the water of lakes and swamps, their bobbing motions allowing them to occasionally touch the water and drink. As the cluster ages, their ability to float increases. Once it reaches maturity, it achieves the proper height to spread its spores far and wide.

As with most rare plants, they can be quite useful to anyone lucky enough to stumble upon them. The properties of the plant, it’s natural buoyancy, can be utilized in a plethora of ways. For example, a paste made from the shrooms could be applied to a heavy object, making it lighter and easier to lift. A fair amount of concentrated delvan oil could be worked into an object to allow it to float. Yet the amount required and the lack of strength of the substance would make this method very inferior to magics with can produce the same effects.

There are obviously other uses besides these, whether it be in potions or others mediums.

(Name of the plant )

Territorial Ruggine Flower

Short Names : Ruggine Flower

(Source : Twitter and Google Plus)

Habitat:

It grows in places full of plant life(Swamps, Forests, Groves, etc) and requires much free space for its roots to expand to their maximum radius, and requires immense sunlight and water; it cannot grow under trees, in between 2 close-vicinity trees, underwater, in caves, deserts, etc...

Brief summary of the plant

The Ruggine Flower is a very territorial flower, although the flower itself is quite short( largest being size of palm) it's roots; although weak, grow an immense amount. The Flower and its roots are quite poisonous, so since its roots grow a large distance any plants in its growing radius(3.5 - 7 depending on size of flower) will immediately die unless they are made to fight or absorb poisons; and even so, its roots would grow around the plant in a very  muffling fashion, thieving its resources and virtually suffocating it. It usually is white with a purple or green base, and is quite rare as a plant that uses immense resources.

Characteristic: (Physical description, Behaviour, Reproduction, Uses, Roles in ecosystem, etc)

The Territorial Ruggine Flower is used in Alchemy to create poisons and only poisons, although it is quite dangerous on its own. If touched too much it would spawn rashes on thin-skin, if ingested it would take over and completely destroy your bodies systems(Similar to a virus), and if it comes in contact with your blood stream it would destroy your blood cells ability to carry anything(Ability to Carry Oxygen, Ability to fight infections, and completely destroys the bodies ability to repair wounds).Overall, if strenghtened through alchemy as a potion it could be even more deadly than before, making its speed of fatality much faster if eaten(5hours - 3 days) or cut/in contact with blood(1 - 14 hours)If inhaled, it makes it abnormally harder to breath and if breathed in directly for too long it causes the victim to pass out. It was given the name 'Territorial' because its aggressive growth pattern and it's ability to completely take over your body and destroy it. With this being said, it can also be helpful to fight off other plants that are not enjoyable to the environment, and is said to decrease the amount of herbivores when grown in a certain area. Although it is fragile in terms of it's physical wellbeing, it requires much to grow...Daily water, Daily Sunlight, and can only reproduce and spread into a bush if there are neighboring plants to be sacrificed for it's own growth.

Cleansing Methods : Since the plant isn't blighted(diseased) and is instead a source of poison and kills plants by suffocating and stealing their resources, blight healing doesn't kill it completely, It assists in its growth in the long run. The only effective way known to kill the plant completely is to remove its roots that grow quite long and far across, due to its radius. The Territorial Ruggine Flower if helped grown by Magic, will eventually turn into a bush.

Arrisk

xNiaLHU.jpg

Habitat:  Alpine mountains, most commonly either in mountain meadows or along barren mountain ridges.

Brief summary of the plant

Characteristics: An arrisk is a conifer shrub that grows in groups along snow mountain ridges or in mountain meadows. It typically grows to be around 16 inches (.4 meters) in diameter and 4 inches (10 cm) high. The shrub is easily distinguished by its red tinged needles. In late spring and summer, if it is in a fairly temperate area such as a meadow, the shrub can fruit, giving off fleshy red cones that can can be eaten like berries which, while edible and highly nutritious, are quite bitter and waxy, making it not a particularly appealing choice for people. When they grow these 'fruits', the needles flatten out and mesh together into thin rows of scales around the cones, giving it the appearance of a flower.

Due to the the sheer and windy mountain ledges the shrub finds itself on, it grows thick, barbed roots that help to keep it in one place by hooking onto the rocky layers beneath them. These roots are capable of, over time, boring into the rock underneath what little soil they have around them to further secure itself. Due to the sparsity of nutrients along the ledges, arrisks in those conditions grow extremely long roots in order to get as much nutrients as they can. The ones that grow in mountain meadows do not grow roots that are quite as long, as they are able to get more nutrients out of the ground around them.

The plant plays two important roles in the alpine ecosystem, depending on where on the mountain it grows. Along ledges, its extensive roots monopolize space and what little nutrients there are around them, threatening to choke out the few plants that might be able to grow in the same habitats such as Silver Lines. However, it can be kept in line by herbivorous animals that are able to get to their roots. It continues this role as a producer in the more temperate meadows. While the roots don't grow as long in the meadows, their fruits provide a great source of food for animals, due to how close to the ground they are.

Its roots, when ground up, create a powder which gives a sense of delirium and drowsiness when consumed. It could theoretically be mixed with other ingredients to make a sleeping aid or a drug.

LM Approval Required: Yes, as I would like to expand upon the substance in the roots further in another Lore post.

Cream-blight-shroom

DNmgv6l.png?1

(Yours truly)

Habitat: Irregular: Discarded/Dead Sugar Canes

Brief summary of the plant

Characteristic:

A small purple mushroom with white spots, usually ranging from 1-6 inches tall when mature, that commonly grows on discarded sugar cane, yet can be harvested, and eaten.

The Cream-Blight-Shroom is a unique mushroom that grows in heaps of discarded sugarcane. Though such would be rare naturally, due to the commonality yet lack of uses for common sugarcane in farms, it is not uncommon for such to be harvested yet discarded immediately. The Cream-Blight-Shroom earn the 'blight' part of its name due to its tendency to grow on such dead sugarcane with an alarming speed, completely covering a discarded or dead sugarcane in as short as 2 weeks. These mushrooms mature in a matter of days, and begin releasing spores which likewise mature just as fast, until all the dead sugarcane in the area has been infested, and consumed.

Though, the most interesting quality of this mushroom is its oddly delicious taste. Though nutritionally bankrupt, lacking any notable calories, vitamins, or anything of note (though oddly enough not poisonous, the mushroom tastes oddly like vanilla cream. (Quite possibly gaining a sweet taste due to it's exclusive diet of sugarcane.) It is well suitable for culinary use, or even intentional cultivation.

Lore Origin: Found naturally occuring in Atlas.
