Imperial Republic of Mankind

40k_imperial_aquila__transparent__by_fug

Location: Solaris system, Luna secundus a.k.a. Moon of Novam Domum, moon base.

In the moon base on Luna secundus it was chaos, bullets, lasers and claws were everywhere together with screams and other sounds of desperation.
This was the siege of the moon base.
Commander Dante of the 1st Imperial heavy infantry regiment and leader of the operation to reclaim the base.
The operation had definitely did not go all easy with almost no one dying but he hadn’t expected so much of the abominations.
There were hundreds of them with waves of them coming from the vents or the corridors.
He had seen many of his men being shred apart in front of his face with the claws of the abominations piercing through the Itoron-steel plating after a couple of hits.
Yet the Imperials were not the only ones to be killed.
Further the men of the free human technocracy had also taken heavy casualties whilst helping in this operation as well as a large number of the abominations had died.

Commander Dante quickly replaced his ammunition and shot the Itoron bullets at the beasts coming towards him and with primal ferocity gleaming from his eyes and after a large number of shots with some of his men helping shooting the thing down it went down.
But this was just one of the many of the abominations and for every one of those things shot down it seemed as if there were another two.
Then finally after an hour of constant retreating and shooting it was silent and the base was clear except for a large shielded door, who knew what was inside and how it works and the base was controlled in a language that they did not know.
The news would this year not go out to the public but next year it would.

Actions

The Han Dominion

Winter, HSC 2

Rain sluiced over the edge of the new Jinyiwei academy’s pagoda-esque roof, nearly blocking out Yimu’s view of the current class of trainees doing their physical training in the field. Despite the mud, the grounds were an enjoyable contrast to the dense, gritty city which surrounded them, and the major enjoyed his chances to work here...provided he could stay indoors.

It wasn't the average cadets which interested him though, as he looked out over the field from his table in the blissfully dry officers' lounge. Far on the other end of the field, near the outer wall, six figures sat near each other sheltered from the downpour by a large conifer-like tree. Yimu couldn't tell what they were doing from here, but at one point he could swear he saw a small boulder lift from the ground. That'd be the farmer; the others hadn't managed to develop those kinds of abilities. At least not yet.

"Damn peculiar, them,” commented Colonel Long from across the table between bites of rice. "As if we didn't have enough to worry about."

Yimu kept staring out the window, but nodded in acknowledgement, taking a sip of rather excellent tea. "They all seem loyal enough," he replied. "And smart. When I talked to Jie he was full of ideas on how he could be useful, and quite a few of them were ones I hadn't thought of already."

"Which one's Jie?"

"The one who just lobbed that rock fifteen meters without touching it."

"Mmm. Farmer." The colonel grunted in dissatisfaction. "Can't say that's all that relieving, Yimu. If that...thing has started talking to our people, it makes our job a hell of a lot harder."

Yimu's brow furrowed as he stared out into the rain for another long moment. "I don't think there's much we can do about it, sir." He tore his gaze away from the window eventually. "Maybe we shouldn't keep them here any longer, though. I think any policy going forward is going to have to make broad exceptions for these people. It might be better for everyone concerned if they continued their training on Shiguo."

Colonel Long finished his rice, setting down his chopsticks, and took his own turn looking out to the distant tree. "Maybe so."

Just as they did the last time a new ship was completed, camera drones circled Shanghai Station, sending footage from every angle back to the television screens of Xin Xi’an. This, however, had been a far greater undertaking than any yet completed by the Dominion. At last, after years of research into the warp drive, after years of construction, after months of gathering civilians for the expedition, the Han were ready to expand their authority across the galaxy.

The supplies had been loaded. The colonists had boarded. And as the docking pylons retracted back into the shipyard, the black-hulled colony ship began to drift away. Slowly, the hulking ark swung its bow toward the north end of Shaanxi system, while the light from hundreds of windows began to dot its surface as the ship’s own power systems took over.

And finally, it came to a halt, and was still. At last, the viewers on Yuguo could see the colony ship Zhou Yu in all her glory. For ten minutes she drifted, her smooth broadsides exposed to the cameras, state commentators touting the new era that this ship would bring to the Han.

uCFDmqOoY5mBnWKCIF_nLtXFk7PKm6PyjfUCS2g9sdcEFbpFb-8xYkpMV3vgnSOMm5VHLkfoKfO-DrOquuUmpTPaGPn1YfWgxBGnFeUGKFWEsfHTC5PnZ_V06UKtCE6HXFwhy2MD

At last, the order was given, and her massive engines fired, and the first mothership of a Han colony engaged her warp drive. The mission was clear: bearing 15,000 of the Dominion’s bravest souls, she would seed Han civilization on the star system now christened as Guangdong. All four habitable planets were to be colonized, making the Han Dominion truly a star empire in its own right.

As the Zhou Yu blasted out of the system, she sent a single transmission back towards Yuguo:

“Victory to the Han.”

----------

The colony ship joins the HSF Anxi in the Guangdong system, and colonies are established on each habitable world: farming communities are established on the two earth-like planets, which soon bear approximately 6,000 colonists each. They are christened Fanyu and Shuzhong, and  Yuguo rice is soon planted at many points on their surfaces, quickly thriving in the new environment. A military base of 1500 soldiers is established on the gas giant’s moon, called Xuefen, while 500 colonists are sent to the arid planet now known as Gansha, where they are to begin mining operations. Without quantum communications and with a very limited number of warp-capable ships, each world is allowed a certain amount of autonomy, though Jinyiwei agents observe to ensure that the army and the populace are obeying the Daos’ will.

With colonies established, the army and their militarist faction renew their push for expedited rearmament, and this time the voices in opposition are notably muted. Immediately, a new type 081 corvette and a larger frigate are commissioned, in order to better protect the Dominion’s new possessions. Rhetoric concerning the return of the Wairen threat once again dominates the evening announcements, and the two months out of every year that each man must spend training are treated even more seriously.

Mysteriously, several disabled devices are handed to military engineers by the Jinyiwei. Apparently when they worked properly they created a shimmering force field in thin air, which resisted all attempts to physically break it down. The engineers are instructed to attempt to repair the devices, and to uncover the secrets behind their function for future use.

The six so-called “Wushi” are relocated to the Jinyiwei facility on Shiguo, where they can continue their development and education away from the general Han population, under the protection of the massive, opaque biodome covering the base.

People's Agrarian Republic

Designing a power armor that is light weight is something for the later future. First a proper Itoron alloy needs to be found and utilized in order to produce proper combat armor with such. The specifications for the jump pack to be an integral part of this suit should be doable and so the scientists set out to develop something that fulfills parts of the parameters. A Carbon-Itoron weave or an Aluminium-Itoron alloy prove to be promising candidates for a certain level of protection, whilst retaining a lighter weight. Of course, this is no full Itoron-Steel armor plating. A lightweight version of the jumppack which will then be integrated into the to be developed suit will provide additional mobility.

The trade of crops goes quite normal, the merchants origin from many different nations, even a Ceri trader buying wheat in bulk to bring it home.

The mesh as a layer gives the vehicle some additional sensor resistance it appears, although it appears impossible to make it undetectable with this.

the holy kingdom of Eadn

5 ap to SL 4.

Free Human Technocracy

Of the 500 sent soldiers, only 300 return still living. It was a gruesome encounter on the moon, but in the end, they managed to push through.

The expansion goes as planned. With the construction of additional factories and storage facilities, the production efficiency can be increased substantially, if there is enough effort of course.

On the other hand, a growing population requires more food, that is a natural way of things. So the addition of new farmlands and greenhouse domes surely proves a boon to the rations of the people.

Itoron tipped projectiles offer a significantly higher penetration than regular hardened steel counterparts or tungsten bullets. It is not wrong to utilize Itoron for such a purpose, if it is to bolster the combat strength of the forces. There is not much to be changed in the current ammunition production process, mostly some smelting and forging procedures have to be adjusted to accommodate for the harder material.

Hephaestus Enterprises

Soon the first Tassaran military freighters are picking up the droids and trainers and pilots for the frontline itself. Given the vast production capacities of Hephaestus, the first 8,000 machines are delivered. It is already quite the substantial production, that will grow over the coming years, as efficiency will begin to set in in the production.

A Itoron-50S Alloy (50% Itoron and 50% Steel) proves to be the effectively lightest and hardest material in relativity to the requirements, although higher concentrations of Itoron are harder of course, but heavier.

Even after a year of intense research, no results are found. The corrupter cells are incredibly resilient and still turn other cells into more of them, even under influence of the heaviest of chemicals.

For the initial order, the Tassaran Republic offers a gigantic military freighter with substantial cargo capacity, if Hephaestus also utilizes it to deliver their droids to the frontline. Otherwise it would be theirs.

The venture appears futile and there are no private business owners willing to take up Hephaestus' offers. Land is also unavailable for purchase. They do worry about potential intrusion into their own market.

In a surprise visit, unannounced with alerts going off all across the primary colony, a Redon warfleet warps into the system. (Encounter)

United States Of Arcturus

Bolstering the fleet with another ship is a right move to make. With the continous war, not far from home, it gives fuel to hope and the feeling of protection against the Keerim Imperium.

The project continues.

United Colonial Initiative

It's not quite there yet, but the theory stands flawlessly. Now only the prototyping needs to be done and the first drive needs to be built, in order to allow the ships to travel through the stars, faster than light.

With the addition of these military forces, it should certainly assist in the defense of the colony itself.

The wargames take place between distinct companies of the ground forces and the three ships up in orbit. They do experiment around and it certainly helps them to get used to their vessels and equipment in these new... circumstances.

The Solarin Federation

Contrary to the expectations of the scientists and the progress they have made in the previous year, the effort given, yields few results. Quantum mechanics for massive objects are a hard nut to crack, they all agree.

The standard issue for combat armor amongst neighbouring nations gives a Itoron-Steel alloy in some cases, sometimes Itoron-Aluminium, other have a Itoron-Carbon weave, and mixtures of two between the three. It is a decision to make, one is heavier, offers the most protection, one is lighter with less protection, and so forth.

Whilst grateful for the offer, the Trialition's governments decline the invitation. They have other things to turn their focus on.

A decision from the people of New Sephoria will be noted further down.

Silver Knight Corporation

And they find a very small deposit in a geologically active volcano region in the south of the world. A green metal, in very small concentrations that proves to outdo Itoron in every aspect possible. It clearly appears to be what the Redon was wearing as his suit of armor. Dakite.

The two frigates are finished as planned.

Imperial Republic of Mankind

Mostly with input from records received from the Ganvius nation, they slowly establish a grasp over the highly complex Kalronian language. This will allow full control over the cleaned out base.

Repairs are partially necessary, for ventilation systems, combat damage that occured, doors, entrance ways, corridors. The power system is still fine and fully operational as well as the ventilation system itself.

Let nature take its way.

A national holiday is called out and a statue erected for the brave seven-hundred soldiers who lost their lives on the moon. It is a reminder that the world is still a dark and hostile place. But the success fills the Imperials with... pride.

As possessed by the devil, more guns, more suits and more bullets are produced than ever. Another five-hundred suits with sufficient ammunition and weaponry are finished.

At long last, they find a system several sectors northeast, that has a very rocky planet with deep ravines that contain Xylorite crystals. The sector is unclaimed and the closest foreign nation is the Karass Dominion.

The Han Dominion

It's a glorious day for the Han, as not one, but four new worlds are to be in the grasp of their hand.

The addition of these ships will surely provide the needed firepower to take down small vessels such as the one that showed up earlier.

The technology behind the shield emitters is so advanced, nobody could potentially understand it. The engineers tasked with it are quickly warned off by Chaal herself, that they should not endanger the integrity of the base in such a way, lest certain... defensive mechanisms may activate.

Both colonies appear mostly... ignored, but alerts go off once in a while as regular ship traffic appears to pass the systems where the Han have their colonies.

Sovereign Order of Malta

The fruit appears to grow fantastically on the new world. Well enough, for having a substantial surplus of the fruit itself. It does not take long, before merchants of the Trialition, Grand Alliance and the Ganvius Nation flock to the new colony, bringing their wares in trade for the fruit itself. This bolsters the population growth substantially with the added immigration.

The freighter is finished as planned.

Events

Rumors have it, that the Karass Dominion is preparing for a bigger military maneuver. Some outlying systems are being closed down for trade, everything else slowly going into isolation. Trade ebbs down, more manpower is seen on the streets of cities and tradeports.

A fully fledged Corrupter offensive is started in the less combat plagued Northern reaches of the Tassaran Republic. Not only that, a first battle takes place in the Tassaran homesystem. Whilst the few ships that reached it were immediately destroyed by concentrated firepower from a multitude of warships, it is a dire signal to the Southern galaxy. The Tassaran Republic announces, that their losses in manpower have reached the one-hundred million mark.

The combat between Keerim and the Skellar and their few allies is hard. Very hard. Again, it appears as if the Keerim are playing with them, only extending a finger of their mighty fist toward the smaller nations.

The US fleet was spaced out in full formation, each ship facing a new direction. It was not limited to warships, but exploration ship, and freighters alike. They had promised before they left, that they would return, that they would indeed. Recover those who were lost, with the framework in place. With everything set, now was the time. Each ship began accelerating on its own, speeding out in one direction, with a brilliant pulse of flashing lights each ship engaged its warp drive and sped off, into the vast abyss that lay before them.

With the successful raid on the Keerim Mining base the Keerim prisoners would join the 1 pilot prisoner captured in the battle of iris bringing the total number of POWs to 168, The Captured freighter is offloaded of Itoron and pressed into service, the captured Keerim Corvette is also offloaded and granted a commission although it is sent to the orbital shipyard to be dry docked and repaired.

The People's Agrarian Republic

The initial round of business had gone quite well. With this came a new round of voting in the Republic. With every citizen carrying a vote, it was a pure democracy. Granted committees are voted in, and given power. There are committees for virtually everything. They are the true guiding force. In office complexes in towers, they make legislation. They're broken, or voted out, and new ones forged. And with this continuous flow, goverment edicts are made, and the people vote. But still, every citizen was first class. And with this Utopie blended it's socialist roots with democracy.

*And so with the new votes in, actions proceed. Utopie tries to increase it's trade deals. With such a massive agriculture complex, their plan was hopefully doable. They would begin to sell in bulk quantities, not smaller deals. With an over all cheaper price, it was hope this wholesale approach would work. Utopie is a stable and democratic nation. It is hope nations will turn to them for a reliable bulk dealer. Agri-bots are being bought up in the main city. The market was allowed contracts for them. It was they who were producing the bots, and making the rewards.

**Of course staple foods in bulk was not their only inventory. Utopie tries to advertise it's luxury crops to aliens. It is portrayed as an eccentric indulgence. Distinctly human delicacies could be seen as a fad, or curiosity. The main items being pushed are tea, honey, spice, incense, human toys, and other trinkets. Of course their main attraction would be the sale of opium. All crops are grown organically. They're harvested by well paid farmers who own the land and bots, and carry their very own vote.

***Utopie makes it known to the central galactic community it will sell large amounts of Xylorite for technology. The nation of course must be recognized by the galactic community. Xylorite will not be sold to any aggressive nations.

*****The power armor had begun to take it's shape. Realizations were made from the first test. It would be incredibly complex to make functioning light-weight power armor. But the best substitute was carbon-itoron alloy. The shock troops would have it no other way. Yes with steel they could be more protected. But what was that without mobility? Research will begin into making a carbon-itoron power armor variant. It'll have a jump pack and be Utopie's staple.

******Deflector Dish's could protect Utopie's star fighters and ground vehicles. But it was soon realized to make infantry ones would be too complex. And so the idea is stored, though regular deflector production remains. And so the research team heads in a new direction. They have already found ways to improve hand movement on droids. This has been adapted to their military models. The next step is to improve another part. Piece by piece, they will make a capable battle droid. Their next focus is on it's core processor. They want the droids to be able to calculate their own choices. Though hardwired into an Engineer's control, they needed some independence. It is hoped these advanced systems will make them more effective in combat. This could also apply to the Agri-bots. They can hopefully decide crucial small task farm work instead of being constantly looked over by a farmer.

*Galactic community offered new food deals.

**Galactic community offered luxury goods.

***Xylorite offered for technology.

*****Continuation into power armor research. (3 ap)

******Further improvements on droids. (2 ap)

The Solarin Federation

Year 2128 Terra, Sol Colony, Sol’s Rebirth System

Ever Vigilant.” - ONI Officer

dcc6577db28e32421bae41ae2d7134d7.png

Over the skies of New Bayside, the Old Remnant Fleet watches over it’s colony with vigilance. Havoc Class Fighter sly across the skies in formations of 3 to 4 fighters in a Tri-formation.

Down on the ground the world is changing for the Federation’s ground forces. For the better.

Sergeant Naer adjusts his uniform “Aside from the heavy fit, it isn’t half bad. What do you think Corporal?” he asks

The Corporal nods in his helmet getting used to the new interface of the LAS. “It’s very handy sir, should give us a leg up fighting the Corruptors, or those HCF Dogs.” one of the grunts taps the Sergeant's shoulder pad “Sarge..who the hell are they?” he asks pointing at the group of men standing with a group of Naval Officer “Those Private...are Spooks..ONI Spooks to be specific.

The hell are they doing ordering the Navy around?” someone asks. The Sergeant turns “Not our business, not a high enough pay grade to ask either. Come on, let's run through the course with these on and see how it goes.

The group sighs and grumbles in agitation as they run the course.

Meanwhile in Orbit above Terra..

The SFS Liberty, Vigilance, and Colton begin breaking away and spinning up their warp drives.

Take us away Gator.” ordered the captain, the helmsman nods “Yes sir, spinning up the cores now.” the Frigate takes off through the void as the three ships split up.

Eighteen hours into their patrols, ONI Officers onboard are given control of the ship. Crew weren’t to ask questions and any station with access to classified data on this voyage was done by ONI Spooks, Comms, Navigation, Astro-Navigation Charting and so on.

The goal, to locate a world for ONI to divert its manpower, funding, and secrecy to allow it to work within the shadows of the Federation uncontested.

With tensions falling with the Trialition, SATO ends the Ban a year early as a sign of peace with the Trialition. A small envoy of Federation Military Personnel currently on leave visit Solaris. The Home of Humanity, in particular they visit Mars. To view and see the world and all its wonders. An ancient planet with a new life ahead of it.

A small group of Naval and ONI Officers hike up the massive shield volcano on Mars. The beast is approximately 500 km long. Truly an expedition to undertake.

Admiral Cole heads the group, his vice Admiral Caleb in tow. Along with one of his personal students in the Federation Academy, Salen. Top of his class, he is not an Earth-born like the Admiral. Having no attachment to the place once called home he sees the Galaxy in a different light.

The Volcano 'Olympus Mons'

TWEQhzf.jpg

So what are we climbing this behemoth for Admiral?” Salen calls out as they continue their hike.

To teach you a lesson Kotch, you know what kind of volcano this is right?” the Admiral asks, Salen knows the answer he feels confused by the questions purpose “A shield Volcano Admiral! A massive...shield Volcano!” he calls up from behind them

The Admiral chuckles “A Volcano, a force of nature made to be destructive and engulfs everything around it.

Salen tries to think “Admiral, while I appreciate your efforts. What is your point?” he asks. The Admiral stops and turns back “I’ll answer that when we reach the heart of this monster.

The three hike on, for just over a week or so before reaching the top of the Volcano and stare down into it’s depths.

The point Salen..my dear boy. This monster is so fierce at a glance. Almost none would be willing to climb it, or even dare come half way. That is why I and Caleb here are personally going to oversee your transfer from the Navy to Black Ops.

Salen looks at the two of them “But sir, I’d be wasted as a Spook..with all due respect I’ve been training to become an Officer, to command ships. To lead the Federation against all its foes!

There would be dead silence for a few moments as the wind picks up.

The Admiral grows a crooked smile “Then if you are to be the Federations shield, you’ll need a Monster for yourself to command. Your own very own...

Imperial Republic of Mankind

40k_imperial_aquila__transparent__by_fug

Location: Novam Domum, Imperial square

The Imperial square was crowded yet it was almost deafeningly silent. People were silent and almost seemed to not breathe to disrupt the silence. This silence was not without purpose, this silence was to remember all those who had fallen during the moon operation and who had given the ultimate sacrifice for the Imperial Republic.

These men had gone through hell and not come back to bring greatness to the Imperial Republic.

Thus they were honored these fallen and to be remembered by Imperial historians as the first Imperial men to die in a large scale combat operation.

They would be the first and it was almost a certainty that over the course of the IRM's existence they wouldn't be the last no matter how long the IRM would last.

Yet Alexander knew as he saw the funeral chests standing there at the square that what they had done would signify the beginning of Imperial expansionism, stopping with only focusing on what was happening inside the colonies.

They would start to expand their horizon not being limited by any man and they would make sure the Imperial Republic would grow.

Since yes they are few in numbers and whilst they might be a considerable power in the human colonies they were not in his mind relevant in any way to galactic politics. They were simply an interest at best for galactic powers and he would try and change that. Even if it would take 20 or even 50 years he would make sure that the IRM would stand up and become a name to be recognized across the galaxy. At that time they would most likely not be a major power but if all went well then they could at least be a minor galactic power and that is what he wanted to achieve, make the IRM a real power no matter how strong it is. In the short term all these human conflicts did not matter they are merely delays to prosperity. Alexander did not want human war it would ultimately not be useful and he would need to help increase the IRM's population soon. But that could come through one of his promises he had given the previous election and with the next election coming in a few years he would need to finalize his election promises.
He had promised to destroy the abominations and purged the facility and thus the hardest promise had been achieved now there was only one promise he needed to do to make sure the people knew he always held his word.

Abolish rations, this would need large investment in agriculture but it would be worth it knowing that people could simply buy the food products they need and not simply wait in long lines with food stamps to get their daily rations. No he wanted people to buy their own food and do what they wanted with their food. They needed to have a choice of food not given the same food every week year in year out. No he would make sure that rations would be abolished soon. Then he could finish on other things and next term he could finalize his plan for the early period of Imperial establishment.

He needed to expand the empire, increase its population and increase it's territory and more specifically towards the Xylorite mine uncovered recently. He needed expansion since now they were still few in numbers and he needed to make sure the amount of resources available to them would increase.

Then Alexander turned back to the event and spoke "My people, recently a battle has taken place in the battle above our heads and whilst we did not see what happened we knew that the people on that moon did the best they could." "and they did, they have persevered against a foe we couldn't't even have imagined back on earth and it has finally after being a constant threat to us since we knew of its existence." "it are the abominations." He would then give the signal and then a corpse of the creature would be displayed and the crowd would gasp seeing the predator before their eyes. "There were hundreds of these monsters in this base and with their determination and sacrifice they have fought and defeated these abominations. These brave men have achieved the first great victory in the history of our nation and many have given the ultimate sacrifice and for that they will be forever be remembered as long as the Imperial Republic exists." Then a monument would be displayed, a fountain in the center of the square. "Here this monument will stand and whenever we will see it we will remember the sacrifice of these men and what they have done for use."

"LONG LIVE THE IMPERIAL REPUBLIC !!!" Alexander would say and this shout would be related all across the IRM and people felt pride for calling themselves Imperials.

Prices down? They've never been up!

vGh2uqV.jpg

Zeus, the sun that the planet of Hades orbited, was a deep, golden hue. Being just over 700,000 kilometres in diameter, it was comparable to the sun of old Earth (Before it expanding into its current form, at least). This sun put out approximately 1,300 watts-per-square-meter of sunlight. On old Earth, this light would be abated somewhat by the atmosphere, knocking it down to a little under 1,000 watts-per-square-meter. Since the planet Hades had no atmosphere to speak of, every watt of light made their way to the planet's soil. Including the window of CEO Steven Penrith's office, where the occupant was currently recovering from an enormous hangover.

Sitting in his large, leather chair, Steven shuddered after another fit of coughs. He often drank, but he had never been hit with alcohol as brutal as the Redon's 'Tryxar.' A mouthful had floored him. Courtesy of The Redon himself, Steven had a number of cases of the unholy drink down in "The Box." He was praying that his guest wouldn't come back, so he would not be obliged to drink any more. The sensation of the alien brew felt like literal fire sliding down his throat, and now his voice came out in hoarse rasps. He slowly massaged his temples and groaned as Phillip, resident super-accountant, entered his office flanked by Milly Price and Jason Woolard. Today was going to be a busy one, no doubt.

"Lets just get this over with quickly. Not really in the mood for a chin-wag this morning. My head feels like it's being made into grgl-goop."

Phillip cleared his throat quietly. "We understand, Mr Penrith, but we need to talk about our manufacturing goals. We're looking into furthering our production capabilties for the droids a..."

Steven waved the comment away, and sunk his head into his hands. "No no no. I don't care. Whatever. Manufacture the things. I SAID you could do that. PLEASE go away, now."

With Phillip being left slightly confused, Jason wobbled closer to the desk. "Hey uh, what about m-..."

"Do it. Don't care."

In a fit of frustration, Milly pushed in front of Jason, and placed both her hands on the desk. "What about the next colony, Steve? Are we going to look for a habitable planet like I want, or are we going to m-"

Steven dropped his head down on the table and groaned loudly. "Yes! No! Who gives a ****?! Get the **** out of my office you bloody troglodytes!" The trio stared, stunned, at their employer's outburst, but remained silent. "Do what you need to do! Christ, are you people incapable of personal agency?! No-one's stopping you!"

The three visitors glanced at one-another blankly, before looking back to the surly CEO.

"You are giving us permission to go forward?" Probed Phillip gently.

"Yes! Go! Piss off! No meetings. Cancel all meetings." With a grumble, he pulled himself out of his chair and crawled under his desk.

As he curled up into a ball, his three employees were rushing towards the doorway. Steven had technically approved their plans, and they were going to capitalise on them immediately. Jason Woolard heaved himself as fast as his undulating mass would allow. He needed to get back to Grand Ares in order to begin his massive excavation expansion. Milly Price was smashing the 'call' button to her driver--a new expedition was required in order to find a planet for her "Tourist/agriculture paradise." Phillip however walked at a more even pace. Once he reached the industrial district, he'd fire up the smelters and forge thousands more combat droids. All for the Tassarans to sacrifice with abandon.

And all three of them smiled in the way only capitalists could--when marching toward unprecedented profit.

Action Points

-The Tithonus Mk Is are produced by the freighter-full. They are produced in such numbers that the fabrication process becomes easier--almost as if the machinery itself is adapting to the design and production methods. More and more droids march themselves off the production line and into their crates. Ready to be thrown into the grinder at a moment's notice.
(-2AP)

-The first of the Itoron-forged Alastor Mk I droids are put into production. Much like their Tithonus cousins, they're build, armed, tested for flaws, then marched into their delivery crates. The engineers waited with baited breath to learn how their melee-focused murder-bot would function in combat. These droids, once delivered, would be put under the command of Rond Trazur and a small team of accompanying lieutenants. With the permission of the Tassaran government, they hoped to test them on the front lines, if possible.

(-3AP)

The small grgl freighter is sent on yet another scouting mission. They're ordered to search for habitable planets 'south' of Hades, as well as useful resources. They're especially interested in planets with tropical environments.

2100 hours. It was 2100 hours already, and Lin still wasn’t home. Normally she was a fairly resilient woman, but this was truly beyond the pale. Ten hours of work, only to get orders from some agent to telling her to report to the top floor of some apartment building on the other side of the city from home. Who did these people think they were? Whatever this was, her husband was going to get an earful, whether he was involved or not. Her fists clenched, and she paced quickly back and forth inside the elevator.

Lin’s anger was interrupted by the thought that anyone else in her position would probably be afraid for their life. Having a Jinyiwei husband was no guarantee of protection.  But before abject terror could take over, the elevator doors opened, and all her reservations were quickly swept away.

The penthouse was beautiful: from where she stood, she could clearly see that at least two walls were completely made from glass, and the view was fantastic. While the ground level of Xin Xi’an could only be described as ‘seedy’ if one were in a charitable mood, up here it was nothing but lights and fantastic skyscrapers, all the way to the ocean a mile away. The apartment itself had to be at least three times the size of the one she and her family lived in, but it was furnished in much the same way. Music drifted through the living room as her eyes fell on a bottle and glass of deep-red rice wine, resting on a heavy dining table.

Her table.

What was her table doing here?

“Welcome home,” came a voice from beside her, and she almost jumped out of her skin. “Yimu!” she replied in a high, shocked voice. Her husband had come around the corner without her noticing, and was dressed in civilian clothes, his own glass of wine in his hand. As she calmed down, he strode toward her, picking up and bringing hers, which she gratefully sipped.

It was only when she drew her lips back from the glass that she realized she was still confused. “What is this place, Yimu? Where’s Feng?”

“In the other room. Gone to bed.” Yimu smiled, taking his wife’s hand and leading her to the center of the room, where she could could see most of the dwelling. “What do you think?”

“I think you should have told me you were planning something like this,” said Lin. “How are we affording it?”

“Easily, trust me.” replied the major. “I may have received a substantial pay raise with the promotion. And…” he set down his drink. “With what you’ll be paid for your new assignment, this place will look like spare change.”

Lin raised an eyebrow, taking another sip of wine as the sides of her mouth curled upwards. “Assignment?”

Yimu grinned, and gently placed his hands on his wife’s waist as he explained. “Doctor Shi...the Daos have personally selected you to give them a process to express modified genes in a living subject.”

“We already have that, Yimu,” she purred, stepping closer to her husband. “So long as we can get a retrovirus to behave, we can get a body to produce whatever proteins we want. There’s not much work to do, unless you’re referring to actually changing a living body’s anatomy.”

Yimu only smirked, silent.

Lin’s eyes suddenly widened, and she pulled away. “You can’t be serious. That would require reverting trillions of cells to pluripotency. Do you know what happens if you do that to a living animal? It dies. Impossible.”

Yimu took a seat in the nearest chair, once again picking up his drink. “Surely you have some ideas.” He asked Lin without the barest hint of worry.

“None that I have any real confidence in,” she replied, pacing away from him to stare out the window. The apartment was high up, high enough that she couldn’t even see down to the streets from this angle.

“So you do have some?” The major walked to the table, and retrieved the wine bottle. Pouring himself a bit more, he approached his wife from behind her, watching the reflection of her face in the window. She said nothing.

“Did I mention the assignment comes with a new title?” He continued, refilling Lin’s glass. His own still in his grasp, his hand slipped around her waist. “How does ‘Director of the Dominion Center for Bioengineering’ sound?” There was a long pause before Lin spoke again, but at last she did.

“I might have a few ideas,” she admitted, melting back into her husband’s arms.

----------

A period of peace and prosperity falls over the Han. With surpluses of both essentials and luxuries, the heavy hand of the Dominion seems more bearable, and the New Year’s Festival is even more spirited this year than the last. The new colonies soon begin to produce goods by the ton: crops from Fanyu, livestock from Shuzhong, and ore from Gansha. To begin transporting these products back to Yuguo, the government orders the construction of a small transport vessel to link together the two systems under its control. This too will allow for messages to be carried between civilians in the two sectors, somewhat reducing the new colonies’ isolation.

Though regular Wairen traffic is detected on the outer reaches of the Guangdong sector, it does not appear to threaten the Dominion’s borders just yet, and though the military rattles its sabre as loudly as ever, their need for more ships supersedes their desire for an immediate war. A new corvette enters construction, and the Daos decide to order the continuing construction of a large fleet, to project Han authority further into the stars. Meanwhile, two new ships leave the dockyard and are deployed to Guangdong -- the corvette Feidong and the new type 071 frigate: the Guangzhou.

78E24vbvDc_9P7748f70Xho40I3XqbWBZlggtav1IEvqo3g15LsstzJIoOLMhhxMvzBuIwjGrRTVIaiJIOdu2s2GwNvBgWpEI_1YBn71oK9YfnqrOo6YTxmYlPP__b15P3Gt5iUa

Larger and less maneuverable than the type 081 corvette, the type 071 nonetheless maintains the same top speed as its smaller cousin, courtesy of only marginally increased armor and significantly increased engine power. It also carries a significant increase in armament: with double the flak cannons and the addition of two type 740 CIWS systems, it presents a fearsome answer to fighter craft. Larger autocannons and a total of five railguns, as well as capacity for slightly more missiles, mean it should be able to present a non-negligible threat to larger vessels as well...if it can reach the right position.

Under the new direction of Dr. Shi, the Dominion’s Bioengineering center begins to investigate efficient gene editing on living animal subjects. Accompanying this task is a more difficult one: inducing the genetic edits to actually take effect without killing the subject, even when they involve major anatomical changes. The first proposed approaches involve keeping subjects in stasis vats, and delivering factors to return cells to pluripotency and induce rapid growth to confirm to their new genetic code. These approaches would of course require that many vital systems be mechanically delivered to the subject as their body ceases to do its normal job, and there is little hope that the first solution proposed will be the best. But the scientists and engineers are determined, and they permit themselves to hope that initial results will give some insight into the project.

The moon spirit, Chaal, soon sees her following take root on the planet below. From dirty back rooms to the perfumed halls of Dominion leadership, many claim to have heard her voice, and they pass on her teachings and kindness to all who will listen. Though they remain a minuscule minority, something is special here. Under normal circumstances all religions are forcefully stamped out: the Dominion allows no worship of anything except itself, after all. But in this case, the Following becomes popular among the Jinyiwei itself, and so manages to survive. Agents are often seen in or out of uniform at such gatherings, and many can be seen to wear a new symbol in addition to their marks of rank:

k490PtTGJ8ApSCfwSmOCglzDeId5_KB0LnEm0PhRAkgR3sVdv5Iua4NqgV0g5AcH0hY0rfsf-rw7jUDBLT6gZAEhr_F0xK2B6GQqU4HvHIA06m_qLifg4dVHZwGotMzqfjJq9VzQ

A side effect of this involvement is that the organization can now watch those who hear the call. Those who appear to demonstrate extraordinary abilities are quickly noticed, and quickly recruited into the agency’s ranks. The rest of the Dominion government is less than pleased about the new development, but there is little they can do. The Jinywei’s influence over internal affairs is unmatched, and so Chaal’s light illuminates the city of Xin Xi’an unhindered...
