The People's Agrarian Republic

Reformation of the state!

The southern galaxy and it's residents have become something to truly detest. Even the PAR, everyone has sinned. And billions are dead and dying. Millions are displaces as their sector gets swept into war. Thousands try to do everything they can. Sometimes for the worse. And scant hundred rule it all, through their edicts does the blood flow. And but of course, one truly pulls the strings.....

The P.A.R was not a failing state. The problem was that they are not even a state. For so long the people were content for small scale government. Everyone had a vote, it was practical. Except, not so much anymore, right? Now ideals could rule above basic needs. Now violence and threat was an all to tangible thing. For now human nations were reaching true power. And of course the P.A.R was right there with them. But not in heart, not in order.

Bianka Klinghoffer and her demands were far too radical. With her in charge, no one would be safe. They would just have to comply and live under her thumb. Of course, she's a national hero. But she did what she thought was best for Germans. Not for everyone else. And so several hundred different committees convened. They all agreed immediate action needed to be taken. That, or let a despot take the reigns. And so they had formally voted themselves out of existence.

What would step from the ashes is the.....People's Agrarian Republic! As always agriculture was top priority. But now there would be a real government. Real action, a means to take more extreme actions. The system agreed upon was the old German parliament system. A prime minister is to be elected next year, alongside other delegates. But it was already apparent one party was in power.

The Nazi Party

Of course there was no evil or subtle coup. This party was very, very different than their supposed origin. It was mainly your everyday human worker. That alongside the majority of the aliens. They believed in the swastika. Not for being aryan loving anti-smites. But for what it truly represented. Peace. And so this parody of a party had taken root. The Nazis were to show that evil reigned in the south. But their true goals was peace, love, and growth.

The leader of the party was in fact a Protorian farmer. A zealous Nazi, he truly believed in the P.A.R. His goals were to expand their farming into something never before seen. He was also the leader in the polls for prime minister. After having held several long talks, they issue a proclamation.

New reformation in the People's Agrarian Republic! The Nazi party has taken control with the power of the people behind it. They have issued sevral new edicts for the colony!

-All surviving jewish practicing humans may pend P.A.R for compensation to past.

-The military and P.A.R will now be one. No more will the military act on it's own.

-A multi-party parliament system based government shall form in place of one citizen one vote.

-A new focus into health, science, and farming.

-Formation of vassal state 'Knights Radiant' in Jungle world Hamburg.

-All citizens of P.A.R (alien included) are now officially German!

Many other edicts and constitution laws are to follow after proper parliament elections. For now the Nazi party was clearly in the lead. What was ironic is that mainly aliens partake in the new government. The german humans were content to farm, serve in the army, and live their lives. The work of skilled labor and politics is better left to the aliens. In effect the P.A.R had just lost the last shred of a Human colony.

*The newest action of the P.A.R will be to retrofit their old colony ship. The very one that had so long ago carried them to safety. They revered this relic. And they also wished to return the kindness back to the galaxy. And so it will soon enter the shipyard. There it will begin intense upgrades. The P.A.R seeks to turn it into a state of the art and first of it's class hospital ship! It will have a massive capacity and hopefully up to par P.A.R tech.

**Following this the P.A.R will hire some northern medical experts. They are promised the ships first mission will be to aid the 8th crusade. It is hoped they will train the hospital ships staff and accompany them. They are promised solid wages and the chance to heal a broken southern galaxy.

***The Kalronians taken on the mission are settled in the top of a military tower. Though confined, the tower mimics their old mine homes as best as possible. For now they are left to their own devices to settle. Under heavy guard and surveillance of course. The crops taken are studied. The humans hope this elder race crops will prove most profitable.

The Galactic Trade Federation of Orimon

9v5lRx1.png

Tony Blaze Jr. shuffled his notes in front of him, his fingers running along the fine paper. Most people had done away with paper, sacrificed it to the god of electronics and computers, datapads and phones. Tony liked paper. It let him ponder every word as he scrawled it down, and make it disappear forever when he wanted to. Nothing was ever gone once you typed it into a pad. A soft ping in his ear followed by a hiss of opening doors brought Tony to his feet, with a smile on his face. Lips closed, the T’Jell never seemed to like it when humans showed their teeth.

“Greetings, please, sit,” he said, indicating the anatomically correct chairs for the T’Jell and Zyrka envoys. “I understand you have some issues with the newly imposed taxes and I would like to address them.”

With the formalities passed, Blaze Jr. shuffles his papers again, adjusts the on his table and speaks.

“The Trade Federation is just that, a trading federation. We invest our resources into perfecting this art, into making the flow of trade as fluid, transparent and fast as possible. Our money goes into your own pocket! What we spend, we spend on perfecting Nexus, and increasing the capacity of our docking stations, warehouses, factories. We spend money on our administrators, traders, dockmasters and dockhands. Every cent we invest, reflects back on you in showers of gold.

And yet, if we invest everything into trade, we have little production ourselves. Our reports correlate with reports before the introduction of the GTC and reveal a marked increase in North-South trade, and an even greater increase in profit and effectiveness since we have gathered trade into this central, safe, neutral place.

Surely, you understand that a nation such as ours, that works to increase the flow of trade, must live off it as well. We ask little. What we ask is but a fraction of the profits the GTC generates now and in the future for all of you. We ask only what little we need to grow this operation, and prosper as a nation. Indeed, to thank the Zyrka for their great contributions, we have halved the taxes that have been imposed upon their goods! We have ignored any taxes on finished materials such as robotics, medicine, weapons, armor, ammunition, etc. that would cause problems to those brave people fighting on the front lines.

All we ask, is for a mere fraction of every ton, to keep the GTC working, to keep the gears grinding and to keep the profits flowing.

Any questions?”

---------

With the minor waves of unrest rippling through GTC-P after the installation of the new ODC-S’, the government easily quells them by reminding the citizens that even the safest nations must take precautions against attackers. While the GTFO is not near most of the southern conflicts, safety is always a priority, and those cannons will deter any attackers. They gently remind the population that with no real fleet of their own, they must rely on other methods of defense.

However, to please those complaining of the blight they are to look upon, most are now covered in a thin dome of metal that would retract in times of need.

Oliver reclined in his chair at the back of the bar and sipped his beer. He had just finished his second run to Hephaestus in one year, and made a tidy profit off of it too. He scratched his grizzled jaw and glanced up at the TV. “...The Darkul Regime, from the Carina Galaxy has announced its presence to the galaxy…”

“An interesting prospect, is it not?” Oliver glanced up as a man in a suit slid into his booth and put a datapad down between them. He wore glasses, clear-lensed with the tell-tale traces of electronics around the edges. Even his jawline reeked of rich, with its sharp edges and smooth-shaven skin.

“What’dya wan’ mate?” asked Oliver, taking a quick gulp of beer. He didn’t always deal with legal substances, had the government traced down the Luen’s last drug shipment back to him?

“You’re a good pilot. Your last two shipments arrived to Hades without issue despite a Kalronian blockade during the first, and a pirate attack during the second.” The other man clasped his hands above the datapad, light filtering between his fingers and glimmering against the small metal insignia attached to his lapels. Yep, definitely a damned official.

“So? I do me job an’ I do it good.”

“Indeed, Oliver Murrel. Names Benjamin Quinnel. I have an offer for you.” Quinnel slid the datapad across the table and Oliver picked it up, his eyes running up and down the offer.

“You’re offerin’ me 500k a year to ship **** from anotha’ galaxy?”

“Yes.”

“Then you got yer man,” said Oliver, putting a hand out. Hell, for 500k he would have sold himself out to the Keerim. He barely held back a grin as Quinnel shook his hand quickly. Even his hands were smooth as silk. And he had thought the Hephaestus deal was sweet.

Officials in the GTFO send out advertisements and actively seek out highly trained doctors from the North, offering good pay if they are willing to aid in humanitarian activities under the People's Agrarian Republic in the south. Their mission would consist of moving from place to place, training doctors and overseeing operations as they help refugees. The pay would be good, incredible even. (2AP) (Payed by the P.A.R)

Scientists and engineers continue to toil away at project THEIA. (5 AP) (14 invested)

The GTC begins constructing a shipyard that would loosely connect to the main space station through a series of tunnels & automatic train lines. While they intend to start small, it is obvious that it is being designed with the possibility of being incorporated into the station at some point in time, or expanded. An offer is sent to Zyrka that goes as such: ‘If Zyrka helps build the space station, both with their knowledge and resources, the GTFO will allow them to rent out a generous section for a pittance so that they may expand their market farther south, and make use of the goods flowing through the GTC. In return, the GTFO requests that they be offered discounts if they wish to order ships from the Zyrka shipyard.’ (6AP) (6 invested) (SL2 should Zyrka not add to it)

With the excellent news that many alien engineers have joined the project, the GTFO begins to set the foundations for the massive building, that has now been renamed to the Central Administrative Complex. This towering monolith to the greed of mankind and the power of trade would house most of the administrative functions of the GTFO, the GTC and many government administrations. Not only this, but signatory nations would be allowed sections to house their own trading administrations in the GTC. There would also be various other lower functions, as well as some limited housing, many meeting rooms, and much more. (3 AP) (6 invested)

The shipyards above victoria would churn out the first ship they had ever produced, a freighter destined for great things. (3 AP)

The Krib citizens of the GTFO are approached and their greatest agricultural experts are found. For good pay and an opportunity to advance their status, they are offered the chance to go south, to the Thulean Republic where they would aid the ailing nation to improve its crops and agriculture for a few years.(0AP)

Darkul

Through mimes, mimics, drawings, map and some basic vocabulary gleaned by both sides, the GTFO attempts to show the trading influence of their nation in their galaxy, displaying the veins of trade that spread from it. While they actively attempt to improve knowledge of their language, they share an adapted english online dictionary that has many pictures and videos attached. Eventually, they would try to broker a trade deal with the Darkul, in which the GTFO would use their newly minted freighter to ship massive amounts of high quality grass tea & mood herbs to the GTFO, and ship in large amounts of highly refined xylorite. They would also begin to inquire about other goods of interest that the Darkul might have to trade. (1AP)

The GTFO approaches the Unity Council of Ymoria, offering to hire some energy specialists to help in maintaining and improving the energy grid of both the space station of Nexus and the city of GTC-P. (0AP)

The GTFO files a request to attend the Peace talks as an observer.

Dubai_2050.jpg
The Holy City of Eadn, circa 2140.

The Holy City bustled with activity, automated ars zipped through the sleek streets of the Eadni capital and in the streets Upper Class Eadni moved briskly to and from work making small talk about galactic affairs. All around them, screens boasted of the Eadni victory against the Karass rebels, and images of a planned memorial for those Eadni lost in the conflict were also shown.

Morale in the Holy Kingdom was at high, though truthfully the morale in Eadn was never low. Indeed, it wasn’t possible. Devotion and love for the state were essentially to the lifestyle of the average Eadni, regardless of class. The street cleaner and the banker had the same value to Eadni society and equally cherished and worshiped the wise rule of the Sultan who gave to them their lives and prosperity.

The propaganda machine of the Holy Kingdom ensured this, keeping its people in check and constantly providing the citizens with grand news of the successes of the government, some truthful and some not. Had the Eadni tasted defeat at the hands of the rebels, its people would never have known it. Indeed, the only newsreels prepared for reporting on the news of the battle were those of victory. Keeping the people happy was all that was required to keep Eadni society running, and as it turned out, it was rather easy to please the people when they depended upon the government completely.

In such a time of incredible prosperity, the Sultan has decided to continue a policy of growth and encouraged the expansion of Eadn both among the stars and on the Holy Planet. New industrial complexes spring about throughout the less-inhabited parts of the planet while infrastructure in the colonies continues to be expanded.

----

A single frigate, the IEN Talal hovers over a remote planet in uncontested territory several sectors north of the Eadni home sectors. The planet, a beautiful tropical planet, would likely make for an excellent colonial venture, however the Office of Naval Research and Development had other ideas.

Doctor Samira Ustaaz, an Eadni scientist renown for her research in REDACTED, looked out from the command deck of the Talal over the beautiful planet. She sighed a bit, thinking of all the potential for life on that beautiful rock, but quickly those thoughts were replaced with a sort of nervous excitement.

For two years now, Dr. Ustaaz and her team from ONRD slaved away at the project now undergoing its first test. Marid, the name quickly applied to the incredibly dangerous project, would revolutionize the way in which the Eadni Navy fought, if it could be successful. If the REDACTED could do as it was instructed, the REDACTED would REDACTED rapidly, much faster than any sort of defense system could respond.

Ustaaz and her team did not anticipate immediate success, in fact, they expected several failures. Marid was incredibly dangerous, and as such the decision was made to keep it far, far away from any of the home systems in case it got out of hand. They hoped that it could be contained to merely the planet, and that the kill procedures would prevent it from too excessive or rapid expansion.

After losing herself in her thoughts for a moment, the sound of a loudspeaker shook her back to reality. “Three minutes to test, all hands to their stations. Observation of test will be from the Command Deck.” Those three minutes seemed to creep by as the lone cluster of REDACTED was inserted into their small, bowling ball shaped shell. Subsequently, the tiny device was sent out into the void, quickly entering the atmosphere of the planet.

As the heat eroded the shell, something within the device began to activate…

The Marid Project, as it's now being called, continues to see progress. The first test of the system takes place on a moon far from Eadni space. [Encounter]

[4AP +4AP from P.A.R.] Work begins on a second Battleship. This one will go directly to the P.A.R, and will not possess the Eadni weapon systems. Instead, it uses mostly basic-tiered weaponry. It is made highly modifiable, so that the P.A.R. can do as they wish with it.

[1 AP] More work goes into the research into the foreign material on the Dajaaj colony. The evaluation of nothingness seems awfully peculiar, and dozens of the colony’s best scientists are sent to observe the material. The hope is to avoid a meeting with the Archivar for if possible, the Eadni hope to keep their possession of this material a secret.

[3 AP] Industrial Growth in the Holy Kingdom is prioritized yet again. The drive begins to boost the production capacity of the Holy Kingdom. Most of these factories are small arms and military vehicles factories.

[0 AP] Messages are beamed to the old co-ordinates of the Republic of Xie. They openly challenge the rule of the rebellious  Karass Lord reigning there and encourage the Xie to rise up. In secret, Eadni propaganda agents also begin to infiltrate the system and encourage Xie civilians to escape to the Eadni paradise. They are directed to the Dajaaj Colony in the Autef system, assuming any Xie make an effort to flee.

Star Republic of Edonia

cAbPk57-XEW4J66luun2FfD1iBnWDNKdcXpkajGWgRHXHITUSJYlLkoNPgYbHyw6AxuWBMgsTM7ZVceqsc-rw9SM7i8PugmB8mwvAF-AZqAjzJr9Coe-dXvOaYoWfx9auIsNMjc7

General Activity:

It’s been a long 12 years since the people of the Initiative could vote on decisions and chose their own path in life. A military regime was installed as a means to replace the ineffective and corrupt council that kept the denizens of Feldspar on a information lock since their arrival. The idea of a republic has grown strong within the people of the initiative and thus to avoid mass rioting in a time of strife the regime has stepped down in favour of a democracy. The changes were slow but became very apparent as time went on, there was more freedom in day to day life, less emphasis on industry and war. The newly established congress would set in motion to rename the Colonial Initiative to a proper nation’s name, The Star Republic of Edonia.

A presidential election would also be held shortly after, the system would follow in the footsteps of its earth ancestry and follow America’s old system. There was no true parties that would form within the first year but it’s obvious that a few groups of people within congress would eventually band together to better their chances in an election. At the end of the election only one candidate was loved by all, Derrick Shearing. The newly elected president’s actions would focus on opening the borders of the newly formed republic to all, alien or human. The second motion would to continue research on the weaponry that the navy uses and the rebuilding of its damaged fleet.

News from the western front is eagerly taken in by the citizens of Edonia, Over 600 souls were lost during the two battles with the Kalronians. Any news of victory against them was celebrated in the streets, barracks, and even schools. Despite this eagerness to show support, the people were hesitant to send in anymore troops until they feel that they could stand a chance. While news is taken in from the western front, the eastern war is largely ignored due to the lack of involvement. The USA’s freedom from the Keerim was celebrated for a short moment until they heard of the atrocity committed by them. Shortly after the people would be in arms and congress would be stormed by a flood of emotional citizens whom declared that the federation would receive humanitarian aid within a few months.

Also due to the forming of the republic, trade restrictions have been lowered all round allowing the nation to enter into the GTC. A single corvette is sent to their space in return for being members of the GTC.

"It's hot."

"I know."

"Father, where are we going?"

"We're moving, Mary."

"Where, father?"

"Ask your mother. Jenny?"

"We're taking a trip, Mary. To a cool place."

"Father owns Dublin House!"

"Trust me, honey."

The 2106 BMW 900ci raced away from the towering center at the edge of the half-sunken city, towards the shuttles that would take them offworld. Towards the fenced off compound marked as the Order of Malta's official launch site. Towards the mobs that surrounded it, away from the fires that lit Dublin's night sky.

"-report the riots are now in the fifteenth day, and the death toll has increased to 20,000. RTE will be back with more as it breaks."

It was cold, the room she was in.

"Father?"

No answer. Her head hurt.

"Father?"

"Your father is on official business, Miss Habsburg."

"Fine. Where's my mother?"

Jennifer Theresa Hohenberg, wife of John Frederick of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine, was killed in the Dublin riots of 2107 when their car and escort was attacked. John and their daughter, Mary, were spared. Her friends and family grieved her loss. His friends and family said he was never the same. The records of the Order show this was when he began his rise through High Command.

Colony ships are sent out. The first to the sector directly north of the capital, where the ocean world with xylorite will be colonized. The second ship goes to the best habitable world in range, and has no preference on those that board. In range means not in someone else's borders and hopefully near the capital sector. (0 AP)

“Francis Scott key went ashore, and immediately went into Fort Henry to see what had happened. And what he found had happened was that that flagpole and that flag had suffered repetitious direct hits, and that it had fallen. But men, fathers, who knew what it meant for that flag to be on the ground – although knowing that all of the British guns were trained on it – walked over and held it up, humanly, until they died. Their bodies were removed and others took their place. Francis Scott Key said what held that flagpole in place at that unusual angle were patriots bodies.”

Newly elected President Cuthos, sat at his desk as he looked beyond the camera to in the oval office to the man behind it counting down on his hand, the ruins of New Plymouth, the capital evident in the background.

“My Fellow Americans, for too long have been beseeched at the head of a restrictive, and hostile overlord. That time is over, and unfortunately many many lives were given in the pursuit of that most noblest goal, I could attempt to justify it, I could attempt to convince you, that our choice was the right one, but deep down we all feel that what was done was right, We have persevered, we have done battle and we have won. But the war my fellow citizens is very far from over. We have driven the keerim back and took away one of their most used outposts with not only our blood and sweat but the blood of the LC who worked to protect us. A new age is dawning, an age where we will have to work harder than ever before in our society, but we will rebuild, we will prosper, and we will win. It is with great disdain that I had to follow my orders to attack the Solarin Federation but such is the nature of armed conflict, our attack was much the same as the attack on the Han Dominion by the forces of SATO led by the Solarin Federation. They paid the reparations price as did we. But the cost of human lives cannot be redeemed. Regardless the actions of former President Hughes caused an end to many lives both within the federation as well as here at home, a costly price, paid for by the common people for a presumptuous and traitorous man, the forces of the United States are currently engaged in finding and capturing this traitor to humanity. My fellow Americans I plead with you to have faith, I have led the US fleet in many victories, and at the head of this fine nation, I will lead this too, to victory, goodnight, may god bless you and may god bless, the United States Of Arcturus”

Several soldiers of the United States Army stood at the entrance to the Capitol

war room. President Cuthos gave the slightest of salutes to return theirs as he walked into the room, the general hullabaloo and commotion came to a close as high ranking officers stopped their talking and came to attention “At ease Gentlemen, at ease. No time for small talk let's leap right into it.” President Cuthos slid into his seat as the other officers took their seats, many were empty. The bloody battle that had occurred dealt a savage blow to the populace and left many government positions vacant, former President Hughes had not been heard from since he boarded his private yacht two days after the attack and departed the system of Arcturus, without a proper line of succession a snap election was called, John Cuthos had no interest in leading the nation at his ripe old age of 74, however the officers under his command as well as the few surviving politicians nominated him and with no competition he ran unopposed and was sworn in as the 79th President of the United States that afternoon.

“Well it's very simple Admir-” The General corrected himself with a grunt “Mr President, the Keerim have been driven back across the sector lines here, here and here.” The General pointed to several glowing red spots on the holoscreen “The Skellar and the Libellan’s have once again become free and are assisting in the main axis of advance along the parallel here.” The General ran his finger through the hologram tracing a red line into keerim space. “Overall sir if I were to give my complete untainted and grim analysis, the deaths of 400,000 humans of our nation, were not for nothing Mr President, our ‘victory’ has led to a complete collapse of the keerim offensive and they are now on the retreat.” President Cuthos leaned back in his chair running a hand through his gray hair with a sigh “And what of former President Hughes? That idiot needs to pay for what he has done, throwing away so many lives for his own personal gain, did you gents know he emptied his accounts and sold his stock shares?” The General nodded “At this time sir we are not entirely privy to his location but I am sure we will find him.”

Janus City, financial district, GTFO

“Right there you see him?” Walters young protege nodded as he took Walter’s spot at the rangefinder “That's the guy?” A middle aged man stepped out of the large town car onto the sidewalk, with two men in suits next to him Walter keyed his radio “Okay folks, nice and easy bag and tag.” Former President Hughes walked inside the bank clutching a large leather envelope he stood in line. Outside a small commotion disrupted the regular flow of traffic three black panel vans pulled up along the sidewalk as seven men jumped out the back of each, wielding M-92A Assault rifles and clad in unmarked black utility gear they rushed into the bank, with several quick pops the men guarding Hughes slumped to the floor, several more ran up to the former President tackling him as a sack was thrown over his head and tightened, the plastic grip of zap straps went around his hands and feet, people looked in awe as the small force of men withdrew from the bank and back outside, quickly as they had come Mr Hughes was tossed inside the back of the van as the small force hopped inside, closing the doors they sped off in the black of night. Walter and James packed up their rangefinder as they left their spot on the rooftop and sulked into the crowded alleyways, of Janus city.

The HMS Lionheart

The HMS Lionheart bustled with excitement, Zukaden-II was close after so long and so many hardships, The people of the KUS wanted nothing but new lives after the former government had failed in the one task they had to do - Protect the people. But now with a full monarchy, the new King was sure to bring about peace and prosperity.

A single man dressed in a very regal outfit stood in a large ornate room looking out of a huge and elaborate window, looking to the icy tundra on the planet below.

"A new home for my people." The lone figure announced to himself before turning to a large metallic door, As he approached the door a loud knocking was heard from the other side "You may enter." The figure shouted to the door as he looked around the room and stepped towards a strangely shaped chair and took a seat.

The door flung itself upwards and a tall and uniformed man walked into the huge room and bowed.

"My King." The uniformed figure said loudly

"What is it Admiral?" Replied the King quickly

"Do you wish for us to begin landing on the planet?" The Admiral questioned

"That would be the next step yes, but keep the people on the ship until we know whats out in that wasteland." Responded the king

The very neatly uniformed Admiral then turned and exited the room, Soon after the ship began landing onto the nearby planet.

Months later the ground works had been laid and the city built in and around the colony ship, using the bridge as the throne room and the ships utilities, with some minor things around and buildings being put up outside.

The KUS was ready to announce existence.

The Solarin Federation

Year 2138 Terra, Sol Colony, Sol’s Rebirth System

“Only the dead have seen the end of the war.”

Above the Homeworld of the Remnants, the Local fleet detects a large incoming fleet entering the system before receiving a message. It’s the US Navy.

Attention, people of this planet, you are hereby requested to lay down any arms and offer no resistance, no lives need to be lost here today, surrender….

The Admiral would receive no reply as the local Station and Quantum Anchor would see to a quick evacuation. The Local Fleet would disengage and flee System. The Stations and Quantum Anchor are scuttled to not allow them to fall into enemy hands. Afterwards a large transport fleet of Keerim ships enter the system and begin landing at the Colony, taking it over within a few hours. Though a few brave souls attempted to keep feeding the Federation useful data this would end quickly. The Colony now dark.

It’s citizens looked above as the US Fleet would suddenly depart. The Federation Fleet would return in a few weeks time with a Protorian Strike Fleet aiding them. Though Upon entering the system they discovered something..amiss.

Salen sat in his command chair as the fleet exited hyperspace and came into system and began immediately scanning for hostiles. “Sir I’m not getting anything..

Salen sighs “They must have fled then. What about the Colony?” he asks. “No sir, you misunderstood. There is Nothing, no comms..no life signs...just nothing…

Salen stood out of his command chair “Did they transport them offworld?” he wondered perhaps hoping that was their fate at least then he would know they are alive.

The Fleet took up Orbit as a few ships and a large deployment of Shuttles, Dropships and Medical Shuttles landed down at the Colony.

Salen, Colonel Davis and Sergeant Miller depart their dropship quickly and rush onto the ground “I want an immediate…” the Colonel would stop mid sentence as he stared. As the rescue force exited their ships they discovered a horrid reality.

Nearly 300,000 Corpses of the Colonists. 80% of the Colony were just Civilians. Men, Women, and….children lay dead in the streets. No Burial, No Ceremony.

Shot, Stabbed, Strangled. It was a Genocide none had seen since the horrid events of WWII back on Earth over 100 years ago.

Sergeant Miller and Davis walk forward removing their helmets “Why?...Why would they do this!?” Davis would cry out “They offered no resistance! They didn’t deserve this!!!

Even the Protorians seethe in rage at the carnage, such a waste, pointless and without meaning.

Sergeant Miller suddenly drops his helmet and takes off into the town. Colonel Davis and Admiral Kotch chase after him “Sergeant! Wait!!!

Miller had a head start, he rounded corners, cut through buildings. The Carnage was everywhere, none had escaped it. “But surely someone had to have survived...Someone!” he thought...he prayed.

Miller rounds up a flight of short stairs and he charges through the door into a familiar building..his home. Davis and Kotch take a few moments to catch up, upon seeing the house Davis grinds to a halt knowing the house “No..” he mutters.

Davis quickly picks up his pace to follow his Admiral as they rush inside to find Miller standing in the doorway of a small bedroom..the walls painted pink, innocent art and decorations cover the inside. Blood ruining the scene inside.

Miller..” Davis looks down noticing the Sergeant’s sidearm in hand, loaded and safety off “L..Listen Miller!...” he would try to console him but what could he offer. “Miller put the gun down..please..

Miller stayed facing away from them shaking his head shaking visibly as he would step forward falling to his knees in front of the crushed crib. Davis would step forward “Sergeant...put down the gun.” he pleaded

Miller finally took a deep breath, he stopped shaking and nodded his head looking up at the picture on the wall “Yes sir.

Davis closed his eyes a split moment to breath a sigh of relief, that relief was shattered as the town echoed from a lone single shot from a 10mm…

Salen closed his eyes and turned away walking to leave the building. Davis opened his eyes to the sight of Miller’s lifeless body, as it lay with his deceased Wife and 8 month old daughter. He gritted his teeth and put on his helmet and left the room, as he passed the living room the slanted Vid-Screen was cracked but working. He turned to stare at a repeating transmission from the US Naval Admiral Cuthos

No lives need to be lost here today...no lives need to be lost here today...no lives need to be lost here today…” the vid screen would suddenly shatter as Colonel Davis took out all his frustration on the screen. Beating it till his hands bled.

Colonel…” Kotch would speak. Davis spun around too angry or too uncaring to worry about the damage to his hands. “They can’t get away with this..This..this God Forsaken act must be Answered for!!!” he would scream. Kotch moves up to him planting a firm hand on his shoulder “The US will pay for this...as will the Keerim..Both in time..

-Days Later-

The Old Remnant Colony lay silent. With aid from the Protorians and Federation Armed Forces all 285,000 Corpses were accounted for, at least those that could be identified. ONI Censors most of the carnage as it is shown to the other Federation Colonies.

The Grgl and Tassarans would receive the uncut and brutally honest nature of this genocide. The Tassarans would be the first to receive the broadcast, as they had ignored the Colonies Distress due to not having Hostile relations with the Keerim.

This attack, which was to be an initial Occupation of the Remnant Homeworld has turned into the single most Vile, Horrid, and Disgusting Atrocity to ever strike both the Federation..and Mankind as a Race. Federation Officials have stated the attack was Lead and Coordinated by Admiral Cuthos of the United States of Arcturus Naval Forces. Admiral Cuthos would soon after leading the attack abandon the takeover as LC Forces attacked the US Homeworld. Our sources tell us the Arcturans aided the LC in Repelling the Keerim and are now finally free from their Keerim Overlords.

The news anchor would remove his glances and stare into the camera “However, Admiral Cuthos knowing left the Remnant Colony without Naval Support and forced the Keerim to enact their vengeance of their Vassals betrayal on the innocents of Remnant. Over 250,000 Innocent Civilians lived on that Colony. The Men, Women, and Children were slaughtered. Executed, tortured and given a gruesome and terrifying death. While the Federation gives no Official comment on this Atrocity as of yet...the People of the Federation certainly do…

The Broadcast would change to the worlds of Terra and Harvest as massive Protests and Street Rallies show rage and sorrow filled citizens fill the streets, burning the flags of Arcturus. Crying and yelling out for retribution. Soldiers, Police, and Average Citizen all cry out for action, they cry for Blood.

-------

Uri sits in his Office staring at the viewscreen, Salen stands with a little girl at his side. A Nira Usenko, Vira’s Grand-daughter whom had lost her parents at Remnant, luckily she was at Terra at the Academy when the Atrocity struck.

I don’t know what to do Salen..We don’t have the Military Power to even fight against anyone. But the People cry out for vengeance.

Salen takes a breath “We could demand the Admiral.” he offers. Uri turns in his seat “And do what with him? Trial him for War Crimes?” he asks, Salen nods.

Uri shakes his head “I can’t do that Admiral. The US is giving us supplies and has already given us a massive amount of intel on the Keerim. They want peace, you know they have suffered to.

Salen looks to the Vid Screen “It’s not up to us though is it?” he looks to the screen as the title reads ‘Federation Citizen’s Call for Council Change’

Uri sighs “I suppose it isn’t…

Salen sighs “Do you have the drive?” he asks, Uri points lazily to the edge of his desk as a small black box sits on the edge of the desk. Salen looks down at Nira “Go on, you’re coming with me to meet him and you can give him that ok?” he ushers her forward as she silently grabs the device and walks back over to Salen’s side. Without her parents..and the recent death of Vira Usenko due to her old age Salen has taken her in to be her guardian.

I’ll be taking the Manta for this trip to the Protorians, After how they helped us.” Uri doesn’t even move “I won’t be your commander for much longer Salen, so do what you need to do.

----

Several Factions within the Federation now fight for popular support with the upcoming elections. This being the first forced public election through majority vote from the populace.

However dominant Military Group secures the votes and takes their place as the new Federation Council. All Members are Ex-Military with a very devoted and aggressive take on how the Federation should continue it’s growth and recover from the Arcturan Atrocity.

One of the newer Campaigns the Federation has undertaken is sending ONI Agents and Volunteer Organizers to nearly all other Alien Nations to rally and convince Humans to come to the Federation. The Federation has always and continues to strive to create a Human Dominant Power.

A small Diplomatic team is sent to the Lithruan Coalition to discuss the possibility of their aid in uniting Humanity. Terms and such are still in their infantile stage but progress is hoped to be gained through talks.

The Han Dominion

Winter, HSC 5

Year of the Pig

Shi Feng's life had finally caught up with him. For six years he had made friends in the underground of Xin Xi’an, free from the supervision of his usually off-planet father or his out-of-town mother. He’d neglected his schoolwork, focusing instead on fast cars, beautiful women and the easy profit that came from running drugs smuggled in from Huizhou. And he didn’t regret a moment of it. What he did regret was that he had gotten caught.

His father had been livid at first, but anger at him was soon redirected when the army found out about the incident. Yimu wouldn’t be able to save him from punishment this time. General Cheng didn’t demand much: only that his nephew be drafted into active military service immediately. By the time they came for Feng, his father merely looked worried, and his mother couldn’t bear to look at him. But the nineteen-year-old had accepted what he would have to do, had said goodbye to each of his girlfriends in turn, and had been ready when the soldiers came.

Perhaps he should have been more grateful: if it weren’t for his father’s standing in the Jinyiwei, he’d be working a rice field somewhere in the southern hemisphere, or worse, slaving away in a mine on Gansha. But Feng and his father had never been particularly close. He doubted Yimu had really done everything he could for him.

The transport dropped out of warp, and Feng smirked, looking out the window. Whatever had happened on Yuguo, it was all behind him now. He had made his way there alone, and he would do the same here.

Ahead, a small white dot quickly came into view: the tundra planet Taiyuan, home to the Dao Yi and ten thousand of the Dominion’s most fanatic soldiers. It lay at the very edge of Han space, a forward staging point for the army to gaze into the cosmos and dream of brutal conquest. Perhaps in time they’d see their dreams fulfilled.

1tvg9y5xqYd_3M82rq8kj8JPlw6tLidd-KMU3ISCI7Qf5uG2aFiQmpmHWuGO6TF4wbtE7i3a4unk4WXNjFENWHz1jcUXjhih91Ep3aLBZMn94XImvaRMUgFusGkf6CkBVGSmHZoq

Several small defense stations orbited the planet, but their guns went passive as the transport approached, and Feng contemplated his fate as it entered the atmosphere. Soon they were low enough to see military installations on the planet’s surface. Most were obviously training sites, or mining operations, but one stood out: a massive fortress-camp atop a mountain. The home of the Dao Yi. His destination.

tBano7Iwah-Nn7jMJkGMp-LBZwJiv1pGCj2k4KuT0FbKzSHUWggFRIq8K_IxRWtEQ3H9uUHeojnT4hvjth82yS4B8m1VZWpaV2tBTNDikpiYubb06OIJMJi0mRbcPNrX0sbq7X3g

The ship came to a halt on the tarmac, and immediately, an officer in the back of the transport fired his sidearm into the air. A blank, obviously, but it certainly got Feng’s attention, and everyone else’s, as did the man’s subsequent shouting. Then there was pushing, shoving, stumbling all the way to the exit, where he and the other recruits stepped out into ice cold winds.

Taiyuan was bleak. Yes, there was life and forests, and the air was breathable, but there was nothing but snow stretching as far as the eye could see. Grizzled soldiers laughed at the new recruits as they stood there shivering, still dressed for the temperate climate of Xin Xi’an. Another gunshot came from behind them, and Feng could think of nothing other than running towards the great fortress at the end of the landing strip, where shelter must await, on the other side of a line of high officers watching with interest. His fellow recruits went with him, herded towards the building by further shots.

A gust of wind blew over the mountaintop, and whatever defiance or confidence that Feng still clung to was sapped away in an instant. Why had no one told him what it was like here?

By the time they lined the recruits up before the high officers, he no longer heard what was being said. He did vaguely recognize the man in the center: his uncle, General Shi Cheng. But he was too cold to pay attention to any of his words, save the final ones: nobody would be entering shelter until they had run down the mountain and back up, and the last person to do so was to be shot. As if for effect, the grinning general took a rifle from the man beside him, loaded a single round, and looked directly at his nephew. Somehow, the wink he gave was more chilling than the climate could ever be.

Feng had never run so fast in his life.

----------

War rages in some areas, and it grinds to a halt in others. The Dominion watches it all, sending no aid, raising no armies, making no statements of support. When asked of their position, its agents merely change the subject. The Han are silent, going about their business with no regard to who is killing whom elsewhere. The Dominion watches.

But still, the Han are not idle. Rather, an immense amount of resources pour into the construction of a space station orbiting the outer edges of the Guangdong system, the same system holding the city of Huizhou. But unlike Huizhou, this station is not to be a limited gateway into the Dominion. Rather, it is to be neutral, its administration leased to the Trade Federation of Orimon, and none barred from docking, though perhaps from traveling farther into the system. Most tariffs will of course be sent to the Han authorities, as this is their space.

rz-T0cOcE8ec-U4UPOmU4ecySgPZihbDydHpkJroTjOQIJw5mt6EcDzD2RT2rUWwAW7cK5a8MUYtXVN2Bist09lBFu8bjqyPNefvLPr7jUPbFEeQQzooheqS3hTotWp_XQ9xfKw3

Christened Xin Hong Kong, the station is a personal project of the Dao Si, which is enthusiastic about a further working relationship with the Trade Federation, and is particularly impressed by their plan for a network of galactic hyperlanes...though of course it is beneath its dignity to admit it.

Amidst the events in the United States of Arcturus, a Han soldier arrives bearing a small gift for then-admiral Cuthos: a medal representing the Dragon Order, the highest honor within the Han armed forces. It seems the Han wish to commemorate his actions nearly ten years ago, which were of such great use to the Dominion.

Dai Hanying turns sixteen amongst the Protorians, and begins to ravenously tear through the knowledge stored in the archive. She, too, learns without ever revealing what it is she’s after, save to Chaal and the Archivar himself. And even as she does, her powers grow. Quickly learning that non-psychics don’t appreciate being read, she does so more subtly, practicing the more delicate side of her abilities in practical terms. Chaal doesn’t approve, of course. But one always needs to have some small rebellion.

In the north, far enough north that thoughts of home rarely come to him anymore, Huang Jie continues to do his duty. The 8th crusade is an endless battle, and his mind is occupied with the grim tasks he faces each day. The Corruptors fight hard for each planet cleansed, and Jie watches friends and allies die and be replaced over and over, yet somehow he survives. And still, he does not break. Every time a Ka’cezh he has come to know falls on the field of battle, it only feeds a bonfire of anger in his heart. Even if the Dominion were to call him back now, he would not go. Nothing matters but the crusade.

Alfacendi System: SS Santa Maria

As Prince Pablo looked out the large window of his quarters down onto the newfound arid planet, a blinking, yellow light on his watch caught his eye. As he pressed a button to turn off the light, he walked out of his cabin and passed numerous scientists and researchers in the hall on his way to the main deck. As he arrived he spoke up to a lady at the helm, "So, Sonia, what's the message, dear?"

Sonia turned to Pablo, and a wide smile spread across her face, "Prince José is sending a report from Benevoléncia on the progress of our projects there."

Pablo returned the warm smile, "Well, let's see him then, shall we?" He gestured to one of the deck members to open up the communications channel.

A large screen on the back wall would flicker to life as an image of Prince José appeared. He waved 'Hello' and proceeded to his message, "Relations with the alien party are distant, and no conflict has arisen. They seem to have received our request for identification, but they responded in a language that we do not recognize. We assume, however, that they responded with the proper identification despite language difficulties. I have made the decision to continue requesting identification from any new passing ship, and then record their response so that our linguists can looks for patterns and piece together their dialect. Isabella convinced me to do this rather than directly ask for assistance from the aliens so that we will not be branded as vulnerable or in great need of outside assistance. On another topic, Project Hidden In Plain Sight has been able to identify a concrete problem with..."

Sonia whispered into Pablo's ear, "Why isn't he using the cool acronym?"

"Oh, after using it a few times he decided he thought it sounded silly to call a 'confidential government operation' Project H.I.P.S., so he decided he was just going to say the long version of it every time. Personally, I think he's being ridiculous."

"I know, right? It really helps lighten the mood when things get so dreary and depressing. It just shakes," she wiggled her hips a little, "it up a bit." She giggled softly.

Pablo chuckled in response to his wife's pun, "Exactly! Oh, wait. We probably should have paid more attention to whatever José was saying."

"Nah, he probably just blabbered on about Project 'Hidden In Plain Sight'" The two smiled and began paying attention again.

"...entists are working on that now. Lastly, one hundred fighter planes have been constructed as we ordered, but as I said before, they will not likely need to be used anytime soon. I am awaiting your response." The recording ended.

"Well, maybe it was important. Ahh, he's probably got it under control, and we need to get to naming things around here!"

"Done!"

"Well, that was fast."

"Oh, I spent some of my free time thinking about it. Anyways, I was thinking we call the star Alfacendi, the planet could be Mónarid, and the colony might be Mindesorra.

"Sounds great! And much better than what I had in mind." Pablo clapped, " Well, now that that is done let's start setting up shop."

"Yep! Oh, and you need to make sure to set up a lab first thing for the researchers that are working with that black metal."

"Of course, meva estrella. Good luck keeping those workers on task!"

"It'll be a breeze! And you know, I sure hope the people in the Alpha Centauri galaxy are having as much luck as us.

Pablo groaned embarrassedly, "You aren't gonna let me live that down are you?"

"Nope!"

AP Usage

Project H.I.P.S. is continued. The scientists look for a way to reduce the emission of not-so-stealthy heat/electric/etc. signatures, or at least make it less traceable (2 AP).

The SS Santa Maria is once again put into use to set up a mining colony, Mindesorra, on the newly found, black metal rich planet, Mónarid (1 AP).

Researchers in Mindesorra experiment with the strange black metal to try and determine its properties and potential uses (1 AP).

The communication center continues to request identification from any new, passing cargo ship. They record the responses to be sent to the top linguists in an attempt to be able to find language patterns, and hopefully begin to understand the language (0 AP).

Buying Friends has Never been Easier!!

The Acquisition Frenzy continues on the new Hephaestus worlds, with natives and foreigners battling for market supremacy on all economic fronts. Unfortunately for the Aurorans, this was not a battle that could be won by anyone. Hephaestus was not a state seeking control, it was a cattle-ranch with the cows buying and selling the grass. This was Hephaestus' great economic strength. The Acquisition Frenzy was only notable for those living on the newly acquired planets. This was life in Hephaestus. The eternal war for profit. The Race. Soon, they wouldn't even notice, or care.

On the topic of grass, the introduction of the Darkul seems like an excellent opportunity for trade. The notation and samples of the exotic grasses they consumed made many farmers on Corporate worlds wonder what they were doing with their lives.

Happy to accept the Zyrka's contribution, and rewarding him appropriately, the Corporation upgrades all existing Tithonus models to the new Mk IIs. Cheap, expendable, and now smart, they were built for export. Granted, when the GTFO's monopolist license runs out...

Happy to accept the little Grgl's efforts in the Corporation, the Board watches the newest subsidiary ply his trade. They would be watching very closely. All of them knew that McPhaestus had potential to thrive if someone had talent enough to exploit it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The thundering clatter of a thousand metal feet echoed in a percussive, chaotic melody. The newly christened Tithonus Mk IIs marched into the cargo-hold of huge freighter without thought or question--flowing to their destination in an unrelenting river of steel and guns. Technicians darted around the ranks of those still waiting to be packed away, performing system diagnostics and general quality tests. Hephaestus was always cost-efficient, but though their products were cheap to produce they never skipped on functionality.

As the next line of combat droids walked themselves into the bowels of the waiting ship, an old Australian man stood next to his accountant. Both were watching the machines walk their way to their new owners with feelings of satisfaction only understood by ravenous capitalists. CEO Steven Penrith leaned on the gangway's railing, with his walking stick resting on his shoulder. His white hair and wrinkled features were a far cry from the man who expanded his business to an alien world all those decades ago. Phillip Narau - Super-Accountant - dwarfed his employer significantly. His heavily tattooed face obscured most of his expressions with the exception of his glaring, cold eyes. He carefully scrolled through numbers and shipping details on a comparatively small data-pad.

"We have at least six-thousand more to be loaded, Mr Penrith. Afterwards we will store the Silver Knight's order in this vacant space when they've been manufactured."

Steven nodded slowly and drew himself away from the railing with a grunt. Letting his cane tap down on the steel grating, he hobbled along the gangway with a greedy smirk.

"Bloody good business, this, Phil. We should manufacture a heap of the buggers just in case we get more buyers. People love our droids, mate!"

Phillip followed closely behind Steven without looking up from his pad. "We're fortunate in our timing. The Silver Knights-"

"Kingdom of Armathwaite," Steven interjected with a mock-British accent.

"-Kingdom of Armathwaite," Phillip corrected, "recently left The Human Cooperative. Perhaps they're worried for their continuing survival? We may be able to capitalise on ensuing paranoia."

Steven grunted half-heartedly, and turned a corner into a small office space. The desks were packed tight next to one-another, with clerks making calls and organising their paperwork and data-entries. All of them kept an almost reverential distance from Steven and Phillip as they passed through.

"I don't think there's much point in direct advertising. They're too savvy for that. We might try that angle with those Orimon boys later, though." Exiting the office, they entered yet another gangway, this time overlooking a factory floor. "This lot might be the last of the MK I variants we make. Bloody shame. I hope the Maltesers appreciate our 'bots."

Conveyors upon conveyors were covered in droid-parts in varying states of completion. Automatic servo-arms pieced together the war-machines bit by bit, while human workers installed the weapons and computational parts further down the line. The whole hall was a symphony of loud cracks and hisses from the machines, and the barking orders from factory supervisors.

"Talking about sales, has our ah, little fruit project been completed?"

"We have recieved the results, sir. We plan to begin our own tests next year."

"Yeah, good. I'm going to be honest, Phil. This was a dirty deal. Probably the worst one I've been a part of." Steven stopped where he was, and rested on his cane. With his shoulders slumped, he appeared decades older than he was. "No more, after this. You understand? Under no circumstances will we do so again."

Phillip nodded stoicly, and carefully placed his data-pad into a pocket. "Our PR was maintained, Mr Penrith. We needn't worry. I agree it would be wise not to do so again, regardless."

The two walked in silence above the manufacturing cacophony, until they reached an observation window. Tables and chairs were scattered around the area, clearly meant for lunch-breaks during the longer shifts. Brushing some paper wrappers from the table, Steven sat down with a quiet wheeze, and rested his weary legs. A thought occurred to him that brought a smile to his face. He waggled a finger at Phillip and laughed.

"You know my little Johnny bought his first business today? Bloody hell, the kid's a damn natural, Phil. Redmond-Rock Ice-Creamery is growing quick! I bet the little ripper already has expansion plans! I wonder if I should ask? I probably shouldn't, he won't want to reveal his strategy..."

Noticing Phillip was obviously unmoved by his glowing praise of his son, Steve changed his angle. "I'm surprised you don't have kids, Phil! You're getting a bit long-in-the-tooth to start a family. You may want to get started some time."

"I've already done so, sir."

"You have?"

"I have."

"Bloody hell! Why haven't I seen them, then?! I'd love to meet them!"

"That would be difficult."

"Why's that?"

"They're on Earth."

"Oh. They've karked it?"

"Yes, sir. They were not at the standard required to leave."

"Jeez, Phil, I would have let you bring them if I knew! Who was the bastard in charge of the passenger list?!"

"Me, sir. My spouse was unwilling to work, and my son was more occupied with alcohol and narcotics than creating his own wealth. They were a poor investment. I saw no need to bring them."

"Oh. Fair enough, then."

And so they quietly raided the employee-fridge and ate lunch.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aurora was not the planet it was a year ago.

The marketeers had arrived bearing money, business plans, and honeyed words. Now the world was uprooted from its technological vision and slowly being transformed into a hive of ever-changing shops, factories, and affordable housing. The citizens, at first resentful, now found themselves digging into the system—working for cheap, rising through the ranks, and building their personal wealth. It was difficult not to be consumed in the great dance of the market, and the former citizens were no exception. High above the growing sprawl, the rechristened “Grand Aurora Institute of Technology” was slowly rising further into the air fuelled by the resources pouring in from Hades. The old colony was being replaced brick by brick, except the inhabitants were too busy to care. In a brand new tenement building deep in an equally new budget housing district, a woman was making narcotics.

The Auroran highlands were filled with strange, intoxicating flora and fauna. Some of which could be refined into all sorts of addictive hallucinogens for the consumption and enjoyment of thrill-seekers. Lacy was a second-generation migrant to Aurora. Her parents had been from a small planet in the Tassaran Republic and moved to Aurora to capitalise on the primitive humans and aid their agricultural processes. Her mother was involved in the domestication of the giant egg-worms that dotted the landscape between the cragged peaks. Lacy, however, had never seen a Tassaran world--she was an Auroran born and raised, and proud of her little planet.

Sadly she wasn’t as attuned to the academic world like her parents. She was clever, but she lacked the same drive to learn and achieve. She skulked the streets in her youth and made friends in bad places while absorbing “skills” that would not be appreciated in the University of Technology. When Hephaestus took over, the criminal underbelly of Aurora was disrupted and upturned, leaving Lacy high and dry. So this time she chose to go into business for herself.

Lacy was quite frustrated with her latest experiment. She was tired of brewing the local flavour of narcotic-cocktails and her latest work with poisonous plants from Capricorn wasn’t turning out too well. She had attempted to grow a small tree in her living-room known for its hallucinogenic qualities. Yet, despite all the hydroponic equipment she had on her person, growing a tree in a house wasn’t particularly viable. Also, the seeds and cuttings she bought may not actually be an alien plant, but rather a common weed. Inside her sealed, plastic, hydroponic tent, Lacy groaned and stretched. The oppressive heat from the lamps was not doing the job, and her shirt was stuck to her back from sweat. With a sigh, she stepped out from her UV-oven into the relative cool of her living room, and tossed the remainder of the seeds in her auto-disposal unit. She would need to produce the boring, common varieties of drugs in order to make up for the loss.

In the corner, much maligned and ignored, a few monitors started flashing red. Lacy had set up a security system with a few subtle cameras hidden around the tenement complex; programmed to sound off when they detected significant spikes in movement. The movement in this instance seemed to be a squad of blue-clad, laser-toting Enforcers. They were securing the exits, elevators, stairwells, or anything that she could potentially slip out of.

****.

Even now they were clomping up to her level, which was less than ideal for her, all things considered. Everyone in this building was a law-abiding wage-jockey of some description (she had investigated them herself) so there was really only one person they could possibly be gunning for.

She acted fast—there was already a plan in place for this inevitability, but she had about five minutes, tops. She clearly hadn't time to pack, so she snatched up her thick, wormskin coat. Knocking books, pipes, and ash-trays off her desk, she scrabbled up her data-pad and wallet. Client-lists were important for her work, and losing these connections would mean she’d have to start from square one. There was a thundering of feet in the hall outside her doorway. It was now, or never.

Apartments with windows were always more expensive, but they were invaluable for impromptu exits. Lacy heaved the glass pane outward and wriggled herself through the opening with vocalised effort. Tassarans were always a little too tall for standard human dimensions, especially for doorways and windows. The fire escape she had pulled herself onto was mercifully wide, however, and she scrambled down the metal grating towards the alleyway below. Not bothering to kick down the final ladder, she jumped onto the concrete below, just as she heard the loud crash of her apartment’s door being kicked in. As she straightened herself, she laughed at her luck. They hadn’t secured the side-alley yet. The undulating mass of pedestrians was waiting only twenty feet away from her. No-one would find her once she disappeared into the crowd.

Falling on hard times, hey love?”

Lacy jerked her head to her left. There was a middle-aged man in a black suit looking at her quizzically, and leaning against the wall of the tenement. From his Hades’ accent she knew he was a foreigner, but what was he doing here? He dressed too well for a wage-jockey, and he was much too calm to be a resident.

He made her nervous.

Swiftly picking herself up, she raced at full-sprint out of the alley. Out of the corner of her eye, she could have sworn the man gave her a big, cheesy smile.

The crowds were packed tight in BestBuy Street. Hephaestus wasn’t used to infrastructure based around ground-cars, and was quickly doing away with wide roads. Above her head steel walkways were being assembled for faster commute among the buildings, while flying transports dotted the skyline. The street-lamps felt almost unnecessary in addition to miles of neon signs and holo-screens blaring advertisements, casting ghostly, multicoloured light on everyone around them. The planet was rapidly changing all around her. The old rules and etiquette were tossed out the back door with the government, taxes, and welfare. She remembered when the street had a line of cafes and a small art gallery—now it was shop after shop filled with slimy businesspeople. Except the art gallery. It was still there. Except now the curators were weirdos in latex overalls.

She felt a tingle down the back of her spine. It was a primal instinct she'd put of a lot of faith in during her life. She kept up her casual pace – running would be suspicious – and discretely looked around herself. She didn’t see any Enforcers, and employees surrounded her on all sides. Despite this, she couldn’t shake the feeling she was being watched. The cold sweat building on her forehead and the grimy, humid perspiration running down her back made every step through the claustrophobic sprawl chafing. She needed to look behind her, but she also couldn’t risk her pursuer knowing that she knew she was being followed. A wide glass pane on a shop-front was coming up on her right. This was her chance to get a brief glance. As she walked by the generic Hephaestus appliance outlet, she glanced in the widow’s reflection.

Not seven feet behind her was the suit from the alley, with his data-pad tucked under his arm.

He was still smiling.

She started pushing through the crowd as fast as she could. He wasn’t a businessman, or some rich prick slumming it around the tenements. He was a ******* Smiler.

She found a gap amongst the walkers and broke into a full sprint again. She needed to put distance between herself and the Smiler if she had any chance of escaping into what was left of the underworld. She wouldn’t look behind herself now. Couldn’t risk tripping over errant feet or refuse on the footpath. She charged around a corner, knocking over a pamphleteer bleating about the latest deals from some place or another. Pamphlets and coupons were flung violently in the air, raining down on confused customers. Food-carts pawing off Grgl goop by the pound squeezed out what little room was left on the street, forcing lacy to charge through cues of hungry employees. Angry shouts and rude gestures followed her as she knocked food out of hands in her flight. At the end of the street, her heart sunk when she saw two familiar blue uniforms. One of the Enforcers was talking on his communicator. As she violently burst out of the lines, the two Enforcers head spun to face her, and the three regarded one-another for a brief, silent second.

“Employee 697,112AU! Halt, and submit for audit!” shouted one of the blue-clad heavies. Both drew their laser-pistols and ran towards her. Lacy flew down an adjacent alleyway pushing over pedestrians as she went. The damp alley was unoccupied, aside from rubbish-bags and dumpsters. Local vermin scurried around the garbage of a hundred different homes as Lacy’s burning legs finally gave out. In front of her was a wire fence, too tall to climb, and she was too tired to make a pathetic attempt. Twelve enforcers marched into the alley wordlessly, weapons drawn. Lacy just watched and caught her breath. She had done everything she could. It was over.

As they approached, the squad parted in two, allowing a man in the business suit bearing a cheesy smile to walk towards her. The Smiler. Her Pursuer.

The little H.E.R.M.E.S. pin on his front pocket glistened in the neon light, and his ivory-white teeth juxtaposed with the relative gloom. HERMES agents, or Smilers as most people called them, were the Corporation’s... something. No-one really knew what their job was specifically, outside of the vague business jargon that made up their name. They always seemed to have their noses in a lot of places; so many that pinning down their purpose was difficult. Yet, they seemed to be everywhere. Their uncanny ability to hold big, friendly smiles earned them their eponymous nickname. Most people found them to be quite approachable and pleasant. Lacy however had always found them cold and creepy. When he finally stood in front of her, the pulled he data-pad out from under his arm, and his smile seemed to broaden.

“Employee 697,112AU? Ms “Lacy”? I take it? You don’t appear to have a second name registered. That’s okay sweetheart, we don’t need those.”

Lacy stood stock-still, and nodded once. She was still attempting to catch her breath. No point in denial now.

“Anyway, lovely to meet you, Lacy. I’m Tim Julie. I’ll be your auditor. Are you able to make a payment today?”

At this, Lacy simple stared blankly in confusion. Tim seemed to pick up on this instantly.
“As per Corporate protocols, all subsidiaries are required to pay a contribution fee to Hephaestus Enterprises in order to upkeep Enforcer security, unprofitable infrastructure, and other projects deemed necessary to ensure future profit and growth. Do you understand, Ms Lacy?”

Clearly, Lacy was not understanding.

Tim spoke calmly and continued toting his winning smile. “Aren’t you employee 697,112AU, owner of “Lacy’s Deep Trips?"  The hallucinogenic manufacturer?”

Lacy suddenly seemed to shake out of her trance, and nodded quickly. She made that ‘subsidiary’ as a joke with her friends! She didn’t even put her real employee ID on it! How did they find her? How did they know?!

“Now,” Tim continued, possibly tired from explaining the situation (though you’d never be able to tell behind his expression). “You’ve missed two of your quarterly payments, so you’re required to pay the outstanding 5,788 HEcreds. This accounts for the first quarter’s missing payment. Will you be able to make your second quarter’s payment today as well?”

It was as if she was in a dream. She took her wallet from her coat, pulled out her HEcredit-card and swiped it across the front of the data-pad. A cheerful “ping” and a green light briefly flashed.

“It’s just gone through, Lacy. Thanks for that. Try not to forget next time, okay? Have a fulfilling, Hephaestus evening!” And with that, Tim pivoted on his heel and walked back down the alley, flanked by all of the Enforcers, until she was alone in the alley.

What the hell was happening to this planet?

Activity

The Kingdom and Corporations third colony had finally been established, being named Falkland after the British territory of the Falkland Islands on Earth. Immediately in both the Kingdom and the Corporations Interest it would be to survey the planet for any special resources or anything of note at all. A survey would commence as soon as possible as the Colony would be set up. A Governor would be chosen later on, as for now the ranking officer of the local security forces would be put in charge until administration could be properly established and set up.

The Trade Outpost has more funds put into it, ensuring that it would be able to be finished within another two years or so, the Kingdom and Corporation prided itself on the Free Market and it was high time that its trade outpost becomes a bustling center for business in its prime location situated between three major empires. With the future expansion plans of the Kings own Cousin to ensure the banking business becomes intergalactic it was becoming something of a priority. Opening itself up to the possibilities at the same time for further trading ventures with other nations, guilds and corporations.

Naval Expansion is still considered something of a priority, but the Navy is now back up to full strength so less of a priority is put on it overall. However expansion would be needed for future, not just in the military but for the merchant navy if the Corporation and the Kingdom itself will ever have an impact on the Galactic Marketplace. Along with the economic and military troubles the outstanding projects that are having major investment put into them would need to be funded. Meanwhile on the planet of Huizhou the Contracted Police of the Silver Knight Corporations Subsidiary in Private Security would continue to put down gang activity in and around the space port, using its Riot Mechs and trained officers.

Action Points

The next stage of Project Gawain would go underway, creating a system of sustained flight in atmosphere and in space without the Mech in question having to transform. (3AP)

The Secret Project would have more funds put into it (3AP)

The Trade outpost yet receives more attention and funding for its completion (3AP)

The Shipyards would be given orders to construct a Freighter (3AP Oligarchy)

A Survey on the Newly Colonized Planet would occur (0AP)

Asgard Republic

2139

Leader - Chancellor Skadi Nielssen

Population - 270,250 Humans

---------

PBC NEWS - Asgard Public Broadcasting Corporation - Dispatches from the Frontier!

Anchor: "Every day we at PBC news bring you the latest from Asgard's endeavours into space, science and beyond - today we bring you a very special report from our very own Torvi Arnesdottir, coming to you from Vanaheim - One Year On. Let's see how our first steps as a multi-planetary society are going!"

-----

The scene cuts to a series of images from the bridge of the ARN Valkyrie II. Tense looking Asgarder crew members hurry around, floating across the zero-gravity control room from console to console. The view switches to the green and blue orb rapidly filling the view-screen and holo-displays. The scene fastforwards toward a turbulent atmospheric entry. Finally a patchy outer camera view catches the massive bulk of the Valkyrie II touching down in a jungle clearing on the edge of a small lake. The view switches again to jubilant crew members, now unsteadily walking on the now gravity-bound decking, and a transmission from the mission commander back to the homeworld. "Valkyrie II to Asgard. We have made planetfall on Vanaheim. Repeat, we have made planetfall on Vanaheim!"

The view switches again to apparent present day. In view is the reporter, and behind her the Valkyrie II and an enclave of pre-fabricated structures and a landing field.

Torvi Arnesdottir: "Those were the now famous scenes, just over one year ago, when the crew of the ARN Valkyrie II and the pioneers in her passenger cabins made landfall on this planet. Beginning a new chapter in Asgard's history. Since then the pioneers have made steady progress in establishing this world as yet another home for humanity."

The camera shows drone footage of the lush jungles and river valleys of Vanaheim, including the local wildlife and plant species. One shot shows a team of Asgarders sunning themselves on a beach and swimming in the sea - a rare occurence on their relatively frigid homeworld, except in some parts of the equator. Another shot shows the Asgarder flag raised on a bluff overlooking the main colony site.

"Since the first days, the early pioneers worked to ready the new colony for wide-scale habitation. While the skeleton crew that arrived here could live off Valkyrie II's resources and supply drops from out-system indefinitely, to ensure quality of life for an expanding population resources and infrastructure needed to be put in place."

Shots show the construction of a filtration system, the construction of solar panel arrays and the attachment of the Valkyie II's fusion reactor to the main power grid.

"A year on, the settlers of Vanaheim have had many new experiences. Although mirroring our settlement of frozen Asgard some 30 years ago, the humid and lush environment has proven its own challenge. Early in the expedition, all of Asgard mourned the death of Karl Larssen - the first child born on Asgard, and a member of the pioneer team - to an disease that swept through the colony. With stringent quarantine procedures and medical aid from Asgard and the wider human galactic community, further casualties were minimal and comprehensive vaccination programs enacted to limit further adverse reactions to the environment. But as tragedy struck, so too did the colonists have reason to celebrate."

Footage switches to home video images of a young couple expecting a baby, then on to labour screams and then the cries of a newborn baby.

"Surpassing expectations on colony growth, the first child on Vanaheim was born only 9 months after planetfall (and the planetfall inaugural celebrations...), a baby girl named Ali - daughter of exo-botanists Vendella and Martin Anders. Ali was closely followed by a number of other births, jokingly referred to by the colonists as the "Planetfall Baby Boom" - a similar phenomenon was recorded in the first years of Asgard's settlement."

Footage shows ships arriving and landing on Asgard, as well as a timelapse of the expansion of the original settlement and the spread of additional outposts to areas nearby. Robotic workers are shown clearing away sections of dense vegetation for agriculture and construction.

"With the initial groundwork layed, the Colonial Authority has worked to fast-track migration permits for citizens looking to settle on this lush new world. It's hoped that in the coming years Vanaheim will become an equal partner to Asgard in our Republic, with debates currently underway in the Assembly and Civil Council on how best to represent the new territory in our democracy."

The view turns to show a space station under construction in orbit and several Asgard Republican Navy warping in to orbit. A view from the surface also seems to show the construction of some sort of military installation.

"Many originally expressed concern on how we would protect such a far flung territory, given the current turbulent state of the galaxy. As military officials have informed us, Vanaheim will play host to a number of ground forces - bolstering the pre-existing security personnel - and a section of the navy. Vanaheim is also close enough to Asgard that reinforcements can quickly be brought to bare in the face of a hostile incursion."

"Despite these visible defensive precautions, the mood here is optimistic. It's a new world full of possibilities - much of the planet has yet to have detailed surveys or manned exploration, leading for many to hope for a gold rush similar to the asteroid scramble several years ago. But for most it's a fresh start, a chance to be pioneers on a new alien world. And while there's still plenty of places still to settle and discover on Asgard, for those born after Asgard planetfall it's a chance to connect with their parents' generation and the triumphs and hardships they endured to make a home for themselves on a new world. Torvi Arnesdottir, PBC News."

ACTIONS - AP Pool: 6

Base: 4

Trade: +2

1AP - While colonisation continues on Vanaheim, infrastructure and defensive concerns are addressed by the government. To ease with commerce, trade and supply, the government constructs a civilian authority space station in orbit around the jungle planet. While nowhere near the size and scale of Asgard Station, and totally lacking in shipyard faculties, Vanaheim Station is nevertheless the first port of call for ships arriving at Vanaheim. Militarily speaking Vanaheim isn't that far away from Asgard at warp speed, but the possibility of a lightning raid is alarming - to aid in the defense of the colony a military base is established a short distance away from the colony, built largely underground into a large hill and garrisoned with a contingent of regular soldiers and dropships for rapid response to trouble spots in the event on a ground invasion. It wouldn't do much against a determined aggressor, but it's a foundation for a planetary defense effort.

0AP - 2 corvettes and the newly built frigate are assigned to the Vanaheim system. This is primarily a show of force, as their standing orders are to avoid overwhelming hostile forces until reinforcements can arrive, but it should nonetheless serve as a deterrent to hostile elements and a comfort to those on the ground fearful of being so far from home.

0AP - 500 regular soldiers, 200 Hunter bots and 50 tank bots are deployed from Asgard to the base on Vanaheim.

1AP - State investment in industry continues. (5 AP total, counting this).

1AP - Detailed sensor and manned surveys of planet Vanaheim commence, aiming to discover anything of value or interest that the initial probe surveys of the system failed to reveal.

1AP - Research continues on Asgard's military suit technology. Special attention is paid on how to make the jump-jet functionality more practical.

2AP - Two corvettes enter parallel construction at Asgard Station.

Imperial Republic of Mankind

Location: Planet of Cadia, the mountain region, military base

Timothy Faulks an 18 year old, fresh out of high school with top marks and recomendations looked out from the viewport of the shuttle that was slowly descending down to a landing platform. All around him were large mountains, medium-sized mountain and huge mountains as far as the eye could see with some valleys in between. Right now the base he was in was on one of the medium-high mountains and even from here he could see a small road going down and up the mountain through the forests that grew on the mountainside. Then he readied himself as he saw the shuttle was about to reach the landing pad and packed what meager belongings he was allowed to take with him which had been heavily checked to make sure nothing was smuggled in.

Then as the viewports opened he could immediately feel a rush of fresh-cold air which made him feel delighted, after taking a trip for 3 days staying only inside one of the frigates of the IRM with only pre-arranged oxygen being around. In some areas the heat was hard not to notice and the air always feeling a bit lacking. Back to the topic together with the air came a few snowflakes since the facility was on such a height it would always be snowy here. He felt like the cold would be a harsh teacher and companion in the time here.

Seconds after the hatch opened he was pushed out by the other recruits and were forced to line up by the sergeant who had led them down here. Soon a few minutes later a regal and proud looking man walked down towards the landing pad from the facility. Whilst he had an aura of strength around him as well as some old kind of wisdom and experience. Something Timothy could not fail to notice about the man was the hair that was starting to grey as well as wrinkles on his skin indicating that the man was rather old.

He was acompanied by a man who looked a bit younger as well as a bit more rugged and had a large noticable scar on his face which looked like it had only gotten there a few years ago. And whilst the regal man had a kind attitude aroundn him his companion seemed a bit more brutal and hardy, though the former could be because of the age difference.

Then the regal looking man began to speak with a strong voice that held a strong aura of leadership in them which almost subconciously forced you to pay attention to him. "I am Hanmar Jaliks the director of the Cadia military academy. This academy has seen fine men go through here and I have trained fine men since before the existence of the Imperial Republic and I can make of anyone fine men no matter the background. Be it some poshy aristocratic kid or former scum from the worst kinds of households. All of them came here all diverse from all background and left here as one, one unit that would die for each other if it came to it. I believe I can make fine men of all of you but in the end you are the ones that make this happen. You may curse this facility you may wish that you had never gone here and may wish for the agony to end during your training but in the end it will be worth it." He would then point to his companion "This is Sergeant Hammer, he will supervise your training and be your superior whilst you are here, disobey him or any of his commands and he will choose your punishment. And whilst he is fair and does not prejuidice anyone it is just that. Everyone will get the same kind of punishement no matter who you are and for any mistake one of you makes you will all feel the consequences. Thus I wish you all a good stay at this academy, Ave imperatoria rem.

He would then walk away leaving only sergeant hammer behind and everyone remained silent waiting for the sergeant. He got a sneer and spoke to the men "What are you doing here just standing pack your stuff and follow me to give you fine and dandy ladies a tour of this little palace." The tone of the sergeant was a bit demeaning and frustrated Timothy as he heard it "NOW MOVE or it will be 10 round around the facility." The squad then softly said "yes sir." With which the sergeant responded "I can't hear what maggots just said SPEAK LOUDER. SIR YES SIR" the squad then quickly responded and did as the sergeant commanded and Timothy knew then this would be a rought time.

Thulean Republic

Admiral de Broglie was very pleased with how successful the various programs aimed at expanding the Thulean population was going. It was still almost two and half times smaller than the pre-massacre populations of Ultima Thule and Prométhée, but a nearly 50% increase in the inhabitants of Espérance in a mere two years was an impressive achievement of the Council for Military Governance's. These numbers of course exceeded initial expectations dramatically, but there was always room for more when rebuilding a nation. And there was always more to be done to increase those numbers. As such, further investment is put into advertising a life of Prima Thule in their neighbours' planets, as well as further funding into improving the Thulean crops.

Furthermore, the seizure of Kalronian crops by the Republic's fellow THC members while assisting the Ganvius offensive was of immense interest to the research teams on Prima Thule. They are handed over to botanists, geneticists, and the relevant disciplines of biochemistry and biology in order to see if they are of any use. Special quarantine measures are taken in case the plants induce illness or are particularly aggressive in ecosystems.

alien_plants_by_mickmcdee-d6xftz4.jpg

A most intriguing discovery though was that of Trizendrium deposits in the western system. Naturally, the Council was rather eager to establish a base and begin extraction, however the Republic, despite its growth, lacked the human resources necessary to do so. Planning begins for a mining colony on the desert planet though, so that when the time came the Republic would be immediately prepared for the expedition.

The Da'Nor population of Prima Thule, which now numbered over 5,000, also came to be of interest to the Council. They had heard of the psionic abilities of other alien races throughout the galaxy, including the Da'Nor, and Admiral de Broglie had personally witnessed a very brief but certainly impressive display of psionic potential. As such, a census is taken among the Da'Nor in order to establish how many of them possessed psionic abilities of any description, seeing how they might be useful to the Republic, and if so working on ways to develop and hone them.

xegity__psionic_by_ionfluxda-d5k5qfa.jpg

A military expansion is ordered by Admiral de Broglie and his fellow Captain-Oligarchs, who have all frequently advocated for the necessity of a strong Thulean navy. A Chasseur-class Frigate, to be named the NMR Lumière Endurant, and an Intercepteur-class Corvette, the NMR Faucon, are commissioned.

The news of a peace conference between the Karass, the rebellion against them, and the various other belligerents involved in that war was also of note. An offer is sent out to host the peace talks, Prima Thule's advantage of being equidistant from the main alien races involved and not requiring any navigation through enemy territory to get there being professed alongside the offer. The hope is that not only will the Thulean Republic be able to facilitate peace between these nations, but also act as a sort of advertisement across the galaxy for prospective immigrants and investors.

Summary

Continued immigrant attraction [1AP: Total now at 5AP]

Continued agricultural research [2AP: Total now at 10AP]

Seeing if Kalronian crops can enhance agricultural research

Da'Nor psionic survey [2AP; see above for details]
