Agerian Commonwealth

Sergeant Hugh Silva took a good look around the military base of the planet of Cadia. From where he stood he could easily see the large amounts of soldiers training, some training to use Power armor others training in the use of dragonsnake armor. Hugh had not seen any recruitment to this scale before nor had others of the military. The size of the military was going to be nearly doubled, this was to be done so as to send forces to the Redon Imperium for the coming crusade. The Redon had called his banners and thus the men of the Agerian Commonwealth answered.

Hugh himself worried about what was going to happen. He knew that the ships of the commonwealth were generally not advanced and neither was the power armor. Still, they would need to make with what was due and battles had been won with worse equipment. However, Hugh was interrupted from his mental ponderings by his friend Timothy, though this time he was in official military gear, he also took a look at the men training and spoke gravely. " Here they are, men volunteering to fight in the military, volunteering to go to war. I wonder how many of them will come back once they leave for war

Hugh could only nod in agreement. He himself had signed up for the military to protect his nation and the galaxy from threats yet he knew the risks involved in doing this as did most professional soldiers. The problem was that this would be the first battle for most of them. The military of the Commonwealth had nearly no real combat experience. All they had were simulations and wargames. No real war in which they would fight against opponents with probably better tech than they had. "I honestly do not know Timothy. It depends on what kind of battlefield we are deployed and in which situation we will get. Several hundred could die or several thousand. But knowing the Ar'Garkri it is safe to assume that there will be high casualties."

To this Timothy nodded and the two men stood there in silence as they looked down. Neither sure of what they should say. But the choice was made for them when Hugh got a message on his comms to bring himself to the General's office. "Well I'll be off then Timothy, see you later" "You too Hugh"

Sergeant Silva then made his way to the general's office and once allowed inside saluted "General Mathew sir" To which the general responded with a "Stand down sergeant"

The general then spoke "As you would know as long as you aren't deaf we are going to war. And as you could see outside there is a large number of recruits. Thus with the increase in the number of soldiers, we need more experienced officers and as you had already been considered for promotion you are now to be promoted to Lieutenant"

Hugh was surprised at hearing this, considering it was quite a large jump in rank even if he had attended extra officer classes in his spare time. "If I may be allowed to speak sir" The general then gave a hand signature indicating that the sergeant now lieutenant could speak. "Why is there such a jump in rank sir. And why do you yourself promote me rather than the captain ?" The general then sighed before explaining.

"The thing is Lieutenant. Most of even the previously enlisted soldiers don't have any military experience at all. Considering your previous experience which will go unspecified you are considered to be the best option for the rank of Lieutenant hoping that you are able to make as many of your men survive as possible."

"Well if that was it you should leave. I got a meeting with High Command to discuss the coming campaign." The lieutenant then saluted before leaving the room. Leaving the general to think about the coming war.

“Celebrations erupt all across the southern galaxy this week as the war with the Keerim comes to a close. In complete surprise to almost the entire Galaxy. The former fringe nation of Arcturus has managed to do what the former leader Franz of the LC failed to do. In many circles and forums throughout the southern galaxy, many wonder just how James Cuthos managed to take his nation from a failed occupied state to forming and founding the Free Southern Alliance alongside the Skellar and the Libellan as well as negotiating a long term peace agreement another aspect at which the LC under its former leadership failed to do. While The rising nation of Arcturus continues its journey upwards, many are wondering just what James cuthos has planned next. And ho-”

James paused the television in his office above Artemis the shutters rising and revealing the stars outside the large windows to the sides of the large screen. Slowly turning in his leather chair he faced Vice President Jefe along with all his senior members of staff. Mouth agape on everyone James spoke.

“Holy….****, how has it worked out this good. How did it work out this ******* good….”

Across the room sipping water from a straw Jefe looked up from his datapad speaking nonchalantly. “Polls are rating Arcturus at a threshold of 97% higher.

We are rising steadily each day in almost every category. Relative to a human nation of course.” James thumbed his chin. He turned to the window behind him. Although the LC had withdrawn the amount of trading ships now passing through Arcturus and Gateway Station was immense. “And what of our issues regarding our good friends the Solarin’s?” James placed his hands behind his back looking over his shoulder as he spoke. “They've displayed contempt before, the last time they were powerful they launched a foolish attack on the Han.” Jefe tapped once more on his datapad. Bringing up a projection on the screen displaying fleet mockups. “The solarin fleet on its own is much similar to ours in capacity and numbers. With the slavs joining them their numbers grow tenfold in that capacity… However.” Jefe smirked as he brought up the next slide. “Where the Human Federations ships number in a few hundred.” A massive assortment of several hundred fleets popped up. “Our federation the Free Southern Alliance. Maintains a navy in the thousands of ships range.”

James smiled once more.

“Where the old regimes were weak my friends, we are strong....”

Once again the Arcturans complete a large contract on time, the citadels defenses significantly boosted the engineers leave a large holosign in front of the station before departing. Bidding all who pass by to seek contracts with Arcturus Defense Solutions.

Much the same occurs in Kyber Core space, the planetary defense ring now ready for added defenses. Of course that would have to wait another year.

Across the USA thousands of farms arise, from the icy permafrost of Iris, the desert sands of New New Mexico and the expansive fields of Eytani. The new Krib Refugees quickly seize the agricultural sectors, proving to be capable farmers. The agricultural investments begin to immediately bear fruit. Literally.

75AP to Agriculture (Doubled to 150 for 2% boost)

More and more advertisements go out across the galaxy. The Krib already with a large presence within Arcturus are encouraged to immigrate for freedom, liberty and honest work. The Vice President of Arcturus the Krib known as Jefe addresses the Krib scattered throughout refugee camps in the northern galaxy in his native tongue.  “My people, for too long have you suffered in the north of the galaxy, enslaved, abused, and beaten at the hands of those who would take advantage of you and after the fall of our own nation. But that time has come to an end. The colony of New Oregon in Arcturus. A colony solely of Krib, a planet for our people! A fresh start and a new home for us all to call. The Arcturans have accepted me as their second in charge, they embrace our people and wish to offer us another chance, my friends, i urge you all to accept this offer. Contact Arcturus through your galactic terminal and you will receive pickup to take you to your new home.” The video cuts to scenes of Kribs going about their daily business in Arcturus. Farming, selling expensive items, and living their lives happy. The scene returns to Vice President Jefe in his office. “My people, accept this offer, make a change for yourselves, make a change for good. Join us here in our new home.”

And with that the video is broadcasted to every Krib refugee camp in the galaxy reaching billions of Krib. And other refugees. With peace now finally had, Arcturus braces and extends its arms to a massive influx of Krib. 1AP to boost broadcasts across the entire galaxy. (MOD)

With its position solidified. A small base is constructed in the Ursa Minor Galaxy. The first foothold for Arcturus in another galaxy within the Korosi nation with their permission of course. Furthermore With an understanding of each others languages finally. The Exploration ship gearing up for its second return back to the Milky Way. President James extends an offer for the Korosi Crown Princess to visit Arcturus for a two year stay. (MOD)

1AP for Fleet maint.

With the flagship company of Arcturus Defense Solutions now having completed numerous large projects across the galaxy. It extends its services outwards to more and more alien nations including members of the New Southern Alliance for the chance to purchase efficient defenses for cheaper than your average contractor.

(MOD)

The Statue of liberty recovered from Earth is installed in the capital system of Arcturus, a beacon of hope and freedom for all new immigrants.

Emergency broadcast from the former Utopie Government.

"FEZ has opened it's gates and allowed the flood to roll through our once democratic nation. We have no wish to fight, no matter how bold a move it was. Instead we have negotiated what we can. Citizens of the Frontier Colony Affiliation, you are no longer bound to Utopie. It'll be up to your conquers to see what happens. We could not take everyone, so only the people and fleets of Utopie will leave. We know not where we shall go, but have high hopes. Another haven city will be made, far away from this central mess. May you have luck, and farewell. Our final action is to renounce the name of Utopie for our former capital. A true city will be built in distant lands."

The allowed military/freighter fleets of Utopie and it's citizens migrate west with whatever dignity they can muster. FEZ assist the transport, and they begin to look for a new home. For now Utopie has almost no knowledge of the western reaches. So they stumble rather blindly, looking for a world that'll fit their mountainous way of life. The Kyber Kore graciously lends them a colony ship to get started. They would use any maps granted to chose a proper place.

Fernando looked around the corner, tucked back, and took a deep breath. “Should I use my gun, or wait for him to come back and do it by hand?” he thought to himself. “I’m almost there. Better not take any risks of someone hearing him hit the floor this close to the target point.” He tucked his gun into its holster and quieted his breaths.

The guard performed about face and walked back to Fernando, he only had a moment to glance at his attacker before he was put in a choke hold and rendered unconscious.

Fernando lied the body down silently and checked his life-signature detector. Nothing nearby until the target room. Better yet, the schematics show that there are no cameras along a certain route. He hopped around the next corner and snuck down a couple corridors.

CLANK CLANK CLANK.

“What’s that?” Fernando quickly turned around and gasped. “Should’ve known.”

An itoron-armored droid stood a few meters apart from him. Its red light-perceptors staring into his skull, and laser gun nearly charged to fire.

Fernando quickly flung a nearby garbage disposal towards the droid moments before it opened fire. He slid his gun out of its pocket and fell backward as the disposal was nigh-immediately devoured by the energy, and the next few bolts of energy flew just over his head as he fired a volley of bullets that landed securely in the chest of the droid.

The droid seemed unfazed and took a couple steps forward to ensure its next shots wouldn’t miss, but it ended up too late.

Fernando flipped a switch on his gun and the bullets let loose a strong electrical discharge that fried the spark right out of the machine.

The alarms subsequently began sounding.

“So much for stealth.” His life-signature detector showed enemies coming in on his location from numerous angles. He dashed around a corner and down the final hallway, and he was confronted by a metal door.

The door had an advanced hybrid mechanical-electronic lock that required six simultaneous points of input to unlock.

Fernando attached every last explosive he had on him to the door’s hinges just before he ducked behind a wall and detonated the bombs. He immediately returned to find door barely attached and he gave it a final kick to take it down.

There were a number of frantic technicians running from a central console in the small room as well as two guards.

Fernando ran right between the two guards and rolled just as they blasted each other in crossfire. Ignoring the mostly terrified workers that were fleeing the room, he attached an AI hacking device to the motherboard of the computer.

“Ten percent complete.”

“This is gonna take too long.” Fernando ran to the door to set off the emergency door-lock.

Unfortunately, one technician mustered up the courage and had stayed around to tackle Fernando down.

Fernando threw the man off of him and knocked him out with relative ease, but not before realizing he had been stabbed in the knee during the tussle. Additionally, he could hear the footsteps closing in on the room.

“Fifty percent complete.”

Fernando managed to hit the emergency door-lock and a second door slid out of the wall and sealed the hallway.

There was immediately a thud against the door and the sounds of angry yelling in a foreign tongue

With difficulty, Fernando lifted up the previous door and pressed his body up against it with his good leg as the thudding got stronger and stronger.

“Seventy percent complete.”

Momentarily, the thudding stopped and the yelling changed to cheering as metal footsteps approached the door and another droid began beating the door down with the strength of a battering ram.

Fernando pressed against the beating with vain and was soon enough flung from his position with the rest of the door.

“Ninety percent complete.”

Six guards ran into the room and flanked the tired man, priming their laser rifles as the droid walked in.

Fernando laughed. “Bringing a whole party, eh?”

The guards remained stoic as the droid approached the console and quickly detected the hacking device. The droid’s audio started up, “Probability of successfully completing your objective was approximately 5%. Doing so while retaining the functionality of your body was far less. You will be spared to observe your mission’s failure just as it nears completion. Research shows this is an effective psychological tactic on humans.” The droid reached out to remove the device.

“Forget the odds,” Fernando quickly shot a last bullet into a leg joint of the droid, causing it to stumble.

The droid regained its balance once more and extended its arm. As its mechanical digits reached the device it clenched its ha-.

“Data corruption complete.”

The device was then immediately crushed under the droid’s strength. The guards opened fire on Fernando.

The last thing he saw was a flash of light.

Alicia motioned her hand towards the viewing screen, “As you can see, we undergo a strict training regimen here at the military facility of Escut. In addition to numerous physical exercises and the thorough education of tactics and maneuvers, we have a state-of-the-art virtual reality display which allows troops to test out their skills.”

There was a small group of new recruits that had been following Alicia for their first-day orientation. They were admiring the VR apparatus as Alicia spoke.

“There is also a collection of missions which can be attempted. To name a few, there are simulated battlefield situations, space-battle sequences, and stealth operations like this one. The level of difficulty can be adjusted for each environment. Fernando here was engaging at 70% difficulty.”

“No way!” yelped Fernando, having just finished removing the apparatus, “That must have been over 200%!”

Four Tigers Holdings found itself in an interesting predicament when it first landed. First, there was nobody to sell electronics to, the largest industry of its subsidiaries. Second, there was nobody to ship to and from, its subsidiaries’ second major industry. Finallythere was nobody for its banks to loan to, the third largest sector of the company.

In a word, it was screwed.

The glittering, smoggy rock it now called home would not help the situation. While the rocky, flat planet of 星洲 (Xingzhou, or Star Island) would be a solid foundation for a supercity or twenty, and it had enough minerals to make Earth seem barren by comparison, it couldn’t realistically support a population of that scale. As it was, it couldn’t support a population of any scale. It would struggle this way for almost twenty years, gradually building settlements for its various staff, gradually forcing mergers between its smallest subsidiaries to keep running.

It was here that Wilmar International shone.

An agribusiness company specializing in edible oils and grains on Earth, the first order of its new CEO Cheng Qian upon transfer from Evergreen in 2137 was to spend the already-struggling company to near-bankruptcy on the hull of the colony ship, which it promptly launched into orbit to grow crops above the smog layer. This purchase jumpstarted the electronics and aerospace businesses, APL and Evergreen ordering massive, fuel-efficient freighters for grain transport contracts and Cathay Intergalactic for the travel of its businessmen. With the new orders coming in, often by needed loans (and Four Tigers Holdings’ line of credit), the banks were injected with capital flows and the company began to move to a better rhythm.

It was a combination of Four Tigers Holdings being a hands-off parent corporation, the long trends downwards in quarterlies, and the already-high concentration of wealth in the group that Wilmar would be able to maintain a near-monopoly on food for years. Their product may have only been GMO-boosted, artificially flavored rice but the price of meats had skyrocketed after Penghu Group realized they had the only few hundred cows and pigs in the world, and Wilmar’s only remote competitor, 85° Bakery Cafe, was dependent on Wilmar wheat. The tea company Tradition would never have a chance to compete domestically.

First contact came in 2133, when a ship was sighted at the edge of the system. At first hopeful that it was another group of Humans, then confused as to how other humans had found them so quickly (estimates had shown it would take years to develop something faster than fusion, and there was no reason to with such a small population), they made contact and found themselves faced by strange fox-people. Some more religious Taiwanese fainted. The large canvas picture showing a confused then-CEO Zhang Ye shaking the hand of a short, grinning H’wong ambassador still hangs in head office with the title “奇遇,奇遇” (A fortuitous encounter, A wonderful adventure).

Actions [62 AP]:

[0 AP] - On the dawn of 2157, Four Tigers Holdings lifts the 2134 Port Exclusivity Rule, allowing the opening of Xingzhou’s trade port slots to foreign governments and companies in exchange for foreign port use themselves. The first round of offers goes to the following nations:

H’wong Nation

T’jell Galactic Bureaucracy

Commonwealth of Redskap

Zyrka Engineering

Ka’cezh Star Empire

Trade Federation

[0 AP] - (The 80 starting AP in Business) Four Tigers subsidiary goods begin to find their way across the galaxy, from 85° Bakery Cafe chains to Asus datapads, from Lotte refrigerators to AS Watson traditional Chinese medicine stores, and from Wilmar-branded premium cooking oils to clusters of banks, it appears that Four Tigers is attempting to quickly begin market capitalization.

[20 AP] - GS Group proudly announces its first large-scale construction project in collaboration with Trafigura Singapore and the Government of Singapore Trust Fund, and funded in part by external loans from DBS, of a 100% increase in size to the orbital trade center, set to be completed in a single year. The following nations are offered early-bird docking rights to this expansion, to take effect upon port completion:

Cevelli Pact

Alduu’uuranean Protectorate

Cooperative of Lorbi

Holy Adaptaar Commonality

Cynn Foundation

Rak’nak’thax

[20 AP] - Cathay Intergalactic announces on the eve of the second Quarterlies release that it, with capital from HSBC and BCHK, and in collaboration with Foxconn and Evergreen, that it has begun a major expansion to the already-Galactic Class V shipyard above Xingzhou. It is set, with current funding projections, to finish in two years. [20/40 AP to SL6]

[6 AP] - CI2000p Spaceliner - In the middle of Q3, Cathay Intergalactic announces the construction of its first 大香港 (Great Hong Kong) class Spaceliner. Meant to comfortably seat 2,000 passengers of any race, its route is set in the Northern galaxy, starting from the Ka’cezh homeworld, across towards the Zyrka, through Xingzhou, to the H’wong, the T’jell, and ending at the Alduu’uuranean Protectorate.

[6 AP] - CI400c Freighter - Building on its small advantage in the Large Cargo Freighter industry, Evergreen orders a fourth CI400c. Its SLSE on announcement gains 1.02SLD, while APL loses .24SLD and OOCL .54SLD.

[9 AP] - Quanta Computer and AsusTek research centers on Xingzhou focus on the question “What is the most cost-efficient reactor we can possibly make?”, looking into possibilities and investing their efforts into the best-looking one. Notably, they avoid using xylorite, because that is expensive and therefore not cost-efficient.

[1 AP] - Four Tigers makes a concerted effort to promote their culture, food and fashion trends in the H'wong, their northern neighbor, and Zyrka, their southern neighbor, as Four Tigers quantum television broadcasting networks are expanded to include the H'wong, T'jell and Zyrka.

Hanguo, Western Authority

“Crikey! Driver, stop!”

The Hephorstus limousine slammed to a halt, barely avoiding a crash into the sudden traffic buildup. They were almost a mile from Hanguo’s spaceport, in sweltering tropical heat, and despite the known quality of Hephorstus manufacturing, the limo’s air conditioning had broken. The men inside fanned themselves in irritation.

“Guess we weren’t the only ones with the same idea,” a corpulent man commented, gazing at the street. “May as well get comfortable.” He stretched, and the men sitting around him wrinkled their noses at the distinct odor. Humidity was apparently no friend of Jiesen Wu-la.

The oldest passenger, the one with the phony accent, grumbled. “Spaceport’s ran by a buncha bloody bludgers. We’ll be stuck here forever…”

“Why don’t I walk out and see what the problem is, Dad?”

“Yeah, just be quick about it.” The false Australian opened the car’s door for his son, before turning to the fat man across from him. “Strewth mate, open a fuckin’ window!”

Jiesen looked embarrassed, but obliged. “It’ll be good to be back in Huizhou. Sensible weather, there. And decent entertainment…”

The boss couldn’t help but agree, having been stuck in the west for well over a year. “Just glad it worked out alright.” He grinned. “Annexation! Never would have guessed it. The whole Lithruan nation, all at our fingertips…”

Wu-la grunted. “Just problems for me. If we’re part of the empire now the Ganvius are never going to let me haul xylorite across their space. Gonna be a nightmare, I tell you.”

“Ah, she’ll be right! We’ll get some new anchors up, and-”

“Dad?”

The youngest of the three men stood outside again in the stalled traffic, but not alone.

“They uh...they stopped me pretty quickly.” Beside him were two men in uniform, both looking exceedingly stern. The “Australian” leaned out the window, glaring.

“Steven Penying?” The officer gazed down at him placidly. “I always wanted to ask you, was that really the name you were born with?”

“The hell do you want? We were supposed to be off-planet by now!”

“The spaceport is currently for government use only, I’m afraid. I’ve already informed your driver that he’ll need to go back the way he came. And I’m afraid you will need to come with me.”

The news did little to improve Steven’s mood.

“Come with...do you know who I am?”

“Clearly.”

“I’m the president, CEO and majority shareholder of Hephorstus Enterprises, and my taxes probably make up a quarter of your paycheck! This may as well be a government vehicle, as long as this government still exists…”

The officer was silent for a moment while the man ranted, before glancing down at a datapad in his hands.

“I see no such information here.”

“Must be new records. Change in administration, and all,” the son chimed in. “Check it again, or...maybe there’s someone you can call.”

“What I mean,” the officer continued, doing an excellent job of hiding his immense satisfaction, “is that all Hephorstus assets in the Western Authority were ordered seized twenty minutes ago. The corporation is to be nationalized, and as for you,” he glanced at Steven, “all of you are to be taken into immediate custody.”

Silence. Steven’s face slowly became more and more red.

“On whose orders?!” He bellowed.

----------

Shi Yimu took most meals at his desk now, and this lunch was no different, even if it was a somewhat busier day. Assistants thronged around him as he ferried steamed fish and rice to his mouth, occasionally stopping briefly to sign various papers. Today, they were mostly warrants, of the arrest, seizure, and execution varieties.

“The Hephorstus board has been detained, Excellency,” reported the woman to his right, waving off the agent who’d brought in the report.

“Mm. Good.” Yimu washed down his latest bite with a long sip of tea. “That’s the last I want to hear of the matter. You understand.”

“Of course, Excellency.”

The High Inspector sighed, and took a final gulp of rice before pushing the bowl away. “We let Jie get out of hand, Chan. I should have acted the moment he had that stupid throne built.”

The woman looked to him sadly. “He stopped the war, and he turned back the Ar’gakari. The people loved him for it. Still do.”

“The people…” Yimu glared out the window, where the weather was beautiful, so different from Yuguo. It unnerved him. “As if anything good has ever come of listening to them. I’ve been at this for forty years, and the job never changes. Everyone else in this whole damn country goes around with their asinine agendas, and it’s my job to clean up their mess. I’m through with it.”

An alert quietly beeped on the female agent’s datapad.

“There’s a bit of an uproar at the port, sir. The aforementioned ‘people’ want to know why it’s closed.”

“They can go without answers a few more hours, I think.” Yimu smirked. “For now, we’ll implement a curfew and get our people into position for tomorrow.” He got to his feet. “And I suppose we’d better prepare an announcement, as well.” He glanced to Chan, who immediately sat down, hands on the keyboard.

“Citizens of the Han Dominion,” he began. “No, that’s not right. ‘Loyal Han,’ how about that. Yes…”

----------

“Loyal Han,

By order of His Excellency Shi Yimu, High Inspector of the Jinyiwei, the former emperor Huang Jie and his crown princess Dai Hanying are hereby declared traitors to the Dominion.

Those regions that remain unoccupied will not heed the treacherous decree of union with the Lithruan Wairen, nor will they continue to tolerate the presence of Wairen in their midst. In order to ensure adequate removal of the corrupting influences which have led us to this point, the legitimate Dominion government hereby declares martial law, until such time as order can be fully restored.

By order of the High Inspector, the Imperial military is hereby disbanded, as the foremost corrupting influence which has led so many of our citizens to foreign occupation. All personnel stationed in Fort Jinping are to surrender to the central Western government immediately.

By order of the High Inspector, the Imperial government’s tolerance for Wairen will no longer be extended. All citizens given the designation ‘Xie’ are to report immediately to the newly established processing centers on each inhabited planet. The penalty for noncompliance is death. Those Kuilei residents on Hanguo are to report for relocation to the planet Xin Shiguo.

By order of the High Inspector, the superstitions and Saryn-fetishizing of the Triple Crescent are hereby declared treasonous and vile. All Triple Crescent devotees are to register immediately with their local Jinyiwei headquarters. The penalty for noncompliance is death.

By order of the High Inspector, the intrusion of corporate interests into the governance of the Dominion must be curtailed. Trade with all foreign states is hereby declared illegal. All citizens with a net worth in excess of one billion credits are to report immediately to their local processing center. The penalty for noncompliance is death.

The central government of the Western Authority reminds all its citizens that threats to our independence are omnipresent, and must be rooted out when they infect our homes. Be watchful, or we will all soon toil as slaves of the Wairen, as our brothers do now.

Victory to the Han.”

----------

Yimu poured himself another cup of tea as the announcement was sent off for recording in tomorrow’s news broadcast. There was a long road ahead, but it would be his to walk.

Summary

[REDACTED] - 2 AP

For a time, chaos reigns as Shi Yimu purges the Dominion’s populace of all who could challenge his authority, but in time, the dust settles. Overflowing with seized wealth from the Han elites, the Dominion’s government sets about sponsoring a new economy in the Western Authority...though one which can’t escape the Jinyiwei’s watchful eyes. - [25 AP into business]

A vast restructuring takes place in the Han government. [New national idea!]

Due to the need to bind the nation together in these trying times, an expansion of interstellar infrastructure begins, with five light transports ordered from the remaining Han shipyards. [5 AP]

Though the old structure of the imperial military is violently torn down, the beginnings of a new navy immediately arise. With Jinyiwei-approved veterans returning to service, the construction of seven corvettes is quickly put underway, driven by nationalistic fervor, and no small helping of fear. - [FREE]

Once the fires die down on Hanguo, the Dominion soon assigns new ambassadors to the Rontan world, who soon report back on their reception by the various governments there, as well as their impressions on the balance of power. - [0 AP]

Four Tigers Holdings, Lmtd.

4854YC (November 2156) Q3 General Shareholders Newsletter

Letter from the Chairman's Office

As we move into 4858, I am glad to announce a few key activities of our company. Rapid growth in our shipping lines since our entry into galactic markets has improved our fiscal outlook for the upcoming year, with profit ratings up an average 3.45% over last year's. Of the Tiger 25, only Wilmar has faced a drop of over 2%, with imports of exotic foods at a high for upper management families. I am also glad to say that this general increase in quality of life has improved our fertility rates, with an estimated 200k births this year, at a rate of 1.001 males to 1 female. Our management style will hence be changing to one focusing on freight growth and high-quality export-import, with a five-year plan involving low domestic product growth in order to maximize revenues in cash cow markets.  生意兴隆.

-Chairman Hua Ten-Shi

Letter from the Board of Directors

Four Tigers Holdings has made remarkable growth in international markets and diplomatic channels as well. In comparison with other trade unions, we found that our relatively late galactic-entry has limited southern economic growth in many key luxury-class areas. To decrease the late-entrant effect on our exporters, we have negotiated our entry into the Free Economic Zone, accepting the obligations of confederation for the sake of improved trade opportunities. By utilizing pre-existing trade routes and zones of control, we can access southern markets previously unavailable or unassailable and expect an increase of freight profit margins by as much as 100% in the coming years from such an investment. We are also pleased to announce a contract signing between us and our fellow 中國人, the Han Dominion, to the order of 1 billion yuan yearly of freighter build-order purchases for two years starting 4858, to be followed by a contract renegotiation. This will allow us to make up for our current shipyards lacking high-quantity capabilities while not detracting above expected levels from profit margins. Thank you for your continued investment and patronage with Four Tigers Holdings and its subsidiaries. 金玉满堂.

First Congress of Viyter - 2157

In 2157, delegates from across the Human Federation gathered in the capital of the Federation, Viyter, for the nation’s first Congressional session. Representatives came from each planet of the respective member states - The State of Terra, the State of Elysium, the Commonwealth of Viyter, the Commonwealth of Redskap, and the Balkan Confederacy.

Session Notes
---/-
--
Presidential Election
The first order of business of the Congress was to elect the first President of the Human Federation. Delegates were nominated, speeches were made, and elections were held.

The first round concluded with 15 votes for Mr. Wilson DeMont of Viyter, 15 votes for Ms. Varissa of La’thiil, 9 votes for Mr. Alexander Ramos of Mercury, and 3 votes for Mr. Svear of Redskap.

With a tie, a runoff election began. Mr. Wilson DeMont secured a supermajority, winning the presidency outright. Ms. Varissa, as the second highest vote-getter, was named Vice President of the Human Federation.

The President of the Human Federation acts as the chief diplomat of the nation and its face abroad. He also has some bully pulpit power to influence congressional legislation, but he wields no direct ability to veto or sponsor legislation

Admission of the Frontier Colony Association
The State of Elysium motioned to admit the Frontier Colony Association as a full state within the Federation. The results were as follows:

Supermajority in favor of YES.

The F.C.A. will be a full voting state of the Federation as of 2158.

Embargo of the Han Western Authority
The State of Terra motioned to embargo the Han Western Authority on the basis of previous war crimes and accusations that the H.W.A. was a rogue state. The results of the voting were as follows:

Supermajority AGAINST.

The Han Western Authority will not be embargoed.

Joining the War Effort Against the Ar’Gakari

The Commonwealth of Redskap motioned to join the ongoing conflict against the Ar’Gakari under the pretense that they are an ongoing threat to galactic peace. The results of the voting were as follows:

16 - Against
15 - For
3 - Abstain

The Human Federation will not mobilize against the Ar’Gakari this year.

Admission of the Polish Republic
The Republic of Fristad proposed admitting the Polish Republic as a full member state into the Federation. The results of the voting were as follows:

Unanimously FOR

Special Session on Voting Power of the Congress

The Baltic Confederacy proposed a voting system that more adequately balances out the number of votes each state possesses. The results of the voting were as follows:

Unanimously FOR

---/---

The Human Federation is open for diplomatic conversations at any time. We may be contacted through any member state, though the main diplomatic offices are within our capital, Viyter within the state formerly known as Kyber Kore.

Given the current state of the galaxy, the Human Federation is open to all refugees within any of our member states - especially those of human descent. We encourage all fellow Human nations - be they FEZ, Redon satellites, or otherwise to engage with us in peaceful discourse with the Federation.

Chapter I: The Great Wars (Ended)

Chapter II: Old Shadows (Ended)

Chapter III Act 1: N’Fe a Te (Ended)

Chapter III Act 2 - Endgame

Alea iacta est

The time has come. With the sudden death of the majority of the Ka’cezh, a huge gap was left in the galaxy’s strength. Most noticeable for the Northern galaxy. But perhaps it was just that, that gave the galaxy the wake up call. Two extragalactic invaders. The Ar’gakari on one hand, the Pi’terroer on the other. Setting aside differences for the time being, the powers that were left knew that they had to band together to defend their galaxy… their home.

-----

United Baltic Confederacy

All across the Baltic Confederacy, people go to work in new towering office buildings, or using harvesting machines on the giant widespread mechanized farms. Prosperity for all. And peace perhaps.

But peace needs to be secured, so the training and assembly of additional forces is not a wrong decision. Especially in such troublesome times.

Asgard Republic

And after thorough searching, in a territory bordering the new Saryn State, at the very edge in an unremarkable system they find a world covered in strange black and white crystals. Dialite.

Back on their homeworlds, new office districts for managing the growing nation are being established. On the outskirts of these (unless it has to be in biodomes), new stretches of farmland are being set up, tilling the soil, with all the modern technologies to it, to keep the ground healthy and balanced.

Essence of Life. Complex beyond measure, it is akin to a philosopher’s stone. Understanding the structure of it is a challenge in the first place. What it does on the lowest cellular level to someone is nothing short of a miracle. One would believe this is magic, or literally psionic.

Thulean Republic

With new business opportunities throughout the fledgling nation, the economy grows. Elsewhere a colony is established for the Thulean Republic.

On the diplomatic level, the Redon counters the request for an audience with the announcement he would visit all three Kolranates. Afterwards, later in the same year, he’d request the assembly of the respective forces, for the crusade is due.

The State of Elysium

And food is rich and affordable. Eating healthy has never been easier for a citizen of Elysium.

Whilst the AI progresses, learns, develops itself too, advancing steadily, experience by experience, other matters are pressing too. With the military receiving a significant increase, now especially needed for what is to come, the citizens might feel a bit more secure than previously, although the death of the Ka’cezh hangs in the air like a plague.

Commonwealth of Redskap

And the farms would already yield food beyond measure within the year, as plenty of resource are poured into the establishment of them. These new colonists will not have to starve. What they do find in the vicinity in terms of resources is nothing out of the ordinary.

Whilst growth for business is promoted elsewhere, the army receives a definitely required upgrade. The tides of war are approaching after all.

Human Republic

Under Protorian supervision the election process and “merging” of the two human nations proceeds. The citizens of the Slavic Federation and of the Solarin Ascendancy will be known as citizens of the Human Republic henceforth.

The election results in a second round, between Nira Usenko and Yuri Obrivanovich. With a result of 53% to 47% of the votes, the stoic democratic crusader Yuri Obrivanovich is elected as the first president of the Human Republic.

Life continues too though. From the former government of the Slavic Federation and of the Solar Ascendancy, infrastructure projects are being rolled through, prosperity is on a rise, and it does not look too bad for the nation as a whole.

However, whilst there is peace, there is also war, and mankind has always been preparing for it, noticeably through development projects beyond measure.

Kingdom of Armathwaite

Various major and minor politicians from nearby nations are attending, with the biggest name belonging to Pohkarr IX. Redon, a member of the Imperial family, an uncle of the current Redon.

Military research and buildup goes as planned, whereas the investments into agriculture appear to have some initial troubles. After some time of clearing the administrative struggles, it turns out everything is in order, except there is was built more than originally planned. (1 additional stack of agriculture).

The Trade Federation

And the biggest client showing up is the Cevelli Pact. They are willing to hire the entire company for combat against the Ar’gakari.

Industry and business booms in the Trade Federation. From the shady dealers in the alleys to the rich magnates in the top floor offices above stock markets buildings. Money rolls and flows. And in times like these weapons are produced without end.

However, it’s not peace, but Death in the West. The Ka’cezh are mostly gone, with the only survivors stemming from their capital world, their population reduced to a mere 150 billion, their economy has taken hits beyond measure. At least, the Darkul have opened space now for civilian traffic, although they do give the warning that all this unclaimed and empty space will become space of war between the races of the Milky Way and the Ar’gakari.

At least the research is unaffected from all the troubles in the galaxy. (Skype)

The Grand Polish Republic

And with that, whatever they were aiming for they got it. (Skype)

And the mental image comes to live, at least with some towering business buildings. There is always room for many many more.

Hephaestus Enterprises

Gigantic super markets flying across the galaxy. Let’s just hope the Ar’gakari don’t pick them off.

Business is the blood of Hephaestus, but also industry is one of their strong points. Booming on all worlds, the economy seems to forget that there is a galactic crisis of unprecedented scale going on. Interest in the combat arenas and other amenities are so high, higher than never before. Almost as if it was the days of the Seventh Crusade, where the Ka’cezh brought business without end to the nation.

Warfare, whilst never a strong point of the nation, was necessary in some cases, fleets were urgently needed to protect their interests.

Agerian Commonwealth

Pure military expenses, a whole armada, a whole army, a whole investment for military research, just for one cause. War. And perhaps a crusade. Or two.

United States Of Arcturus

The United States of Arcturus would receive the Bjaki Bjaki fruit from their Skellar allies. A fruit that can grow on icy worlds to temperatures of minus thirty degrees celsius, without issue, is very rich in protein and vitamins. It does taste very bland though, preferably eaten with salt, it makes excellent rations for soldiers. The Skellar military forces can vouch for that.

Throughout the year, after the advertisement, about five thousand Krib do show up, coming through various civilian transport or with their own ships.

The Empire of Koros welcomes the entourage from the United States of Arcturus.

The Skellar Kingdom and Libellan Union both order nationwide fortifications against potential Ar’gakari or even Keerim incursions. (500 AP)

Utopie

The Redon Imperium offers the people of Utopie to settle a world near their territory and to prosper under the Imperium’s protection, as a new Kolranate. The location would be a prosperous continental super world (several times bigger than earth) north of the Saryn State.

Diarchy of Andorra

Andorra, with the aid of its H’wong and Zyrka allies proceeds to reach new technological horizons. Unbeknownst to them, they are protected by the Darkul who are now relentlessly engaging the Ar’gakari to their very North.

On the Andorran homeworlds, people prosper, as business does. With new transportation, amenities, work places, the economy looks up. With the newly reopened trade routes for the West, it should bring additional riches, although the dire situation with the Ar’gakari makes it quite precarious. At least the Darkul are not blockading anymore.

Four Tigers Holdings, Lmtd.

Aside from the Ka’cezh Imperium, all give green lights for trade. And those for the new docking ports, clearly, do so as well. The entire North is willing to hop in onto this new opportunity for trade, given all the trouble with the Ar’gakari, it is not necessarily immediately a riskfree adventure.

Whilst the freighters are built as planned, the research question is quickly answered. Going by knowledge available everywhere in the galaxy, Dialite reactors are the most efficient reactors. Only issue being that Dialite is by far not as common as Xylorite. Other than that, good old Hydrogen-Helium Fusion reactors have to do, and are very common on civilian vessels, or as secondary generators on warships.

Commonwealth of Viyter

A huge payment arrives from the Lithruan Empire in the meantime, whilst the pieces are still being built. The soldiers are apparently quite grateful. (100 AP)

Missiles with Trizendrium payloads are nothing new, swarm missiles are a bit more difficult, due to smaller and compressed payloads, and the risk of the swarm missiles bumping into each other and causing a chain reaction of premature explosions. They are working on it and steadily making progress.

The Han Dominion

Harsh changes in the Western territories of the Han Dominion. But, they are being… left alone. No single Lithruan ship has shown up at their borders, only a Ganvius vessel here and there, though the Ganvius do sometimes send a ship over to their research outpost above the Rontan homeworld. Smooth sailing for Shi Yimu. Expect a visitor. (Skype)

-----

Events

The dire times for trade are mostly over. Whilst the North is embroiled in war, the South has calmed, and the nations are trading more than in the years before. (Trade penalty is gone.)

Preparations for the crusade are in progress, with the Darkul, Zaxx joining in on the planned assault on the Ar’gakari holdings. The defunct Ka’cezh territories though have quickly become a widespread battlefield between the two fresh allies and the mutual foe.

The Keerim Imperium is holding back the tide of the incursion, suffering severe losses, but reporting nothing of note other than that to the galactic community.

More happenings are due, but unknown as of yet.

“So you want to be an 11B?” The recruiter said to the young man in front of him, “You realize that there's plenty of other positions for you kid, don’t go into this without going through all your options.” A scoff came before a reply came. “I’ve done plenty of thinking about this, I want to be an 11B.” A sigh came and then some typing.

You will be shipping out in two months, get your strings tied up and I suggest you also do some running and strength training. Welcome to a new chapter Elias.” The sergeant shook hands with the young teen.

As the new year dawned, the call went out. Hundreds of thousands of swedish men were called up to serve in their nation’s army with divisions being formed in literal days. Their equipment was graciously built by the Hephaestus corporation allowing a mass amount of men to wield the strongest weapons humanity has when it comes to ground warfare. Training would take place over the entire course of the year warranted they weren’t sent to join in on this crusade.

In orbit of Fristad, the miniscule shipyard had to be improved. A massive superstructure was built for the mightiest warships to be fielded, multiple slipways of this size were added on and eagerly thousands of people joined as shipbuilders.

AP Expenditure: 92 + 16 = 108 AP

(70 AP) It was time to begin upgrading the small shipyard in orbit of Fristad, an SL3 class is to be built into an SL6.

(27 AP to Mith.) Sending the necessary equipment blueprints for assembly.

(8 AP) Constructing two more colony ships, one sent west and one east.

(3 AP) Development of scanners at the edge of currently colonized systems as early warning.

(0 AP) The war in the north has left many without homes and despite being a nation that kept to itself, the commonwealth would offer refuge on its newly colonized worlds promising bountiful food, safety, and work.

(0 AP) The Redskap industrial complex is opened up, all nations in need of military arms are welcome to place orders at great rates.

“So where do we go from here?” Ioannis wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead, his palm coming to rest under his chin.

“I don’t know, he did what you wanted. He showed emotion.” Dr. Adolfo looked away from his colleague, staring through the glass back into the room where the Michael terminal sat idle.

“He ******* said he’s afraid of us Jorge - afraid.”

Ioannis turned to face the terminal as well, his hands shifting to mirror his superior. The two men stood in silence for a moment, stunned by the exchange that had just taken place between man and machine on the other side of that thin glass sheet. Ioannis broke the silence.

“Should we just cancel the project? Wipe Michael and advise the Forum that we’re in way over our heads? If it’s afraid of us, if it thinks -”

“No.” Jorge turned to the younger engineer, releasing a deep sigh to steady himself. “That’s why he’s afraid. He knows at the end of the day, we can just,” Jorge snaps his fingers, “Shut him down. Just like that. Gone from existence. He knows that, right now at least, we’re his God.”

Ioannis nodded, shifting his feet across the spotless tile floors of the dim concrete room surrounded the two men. “I understand that, Jorge. But what’s the alternative? Risking unleashing a machine that, if it wanted to, could go link up with our entire damn defense grid and turn it loose on any one of our worlds? Maybe all of them?”

“He.”

“What?”

“You keep referring to Michael as it. We’re far passed him being called ‘it.’” Jorge rested his hand on Ioannis shoulder in hopes of calming his counterpart. “He’s beginning to act like you or I now. We need to treat him like he is one of us.”

“Alright, but I’m still not following, not completely.” Ioannis brushed aside Jorge’s embrace, moving closer to the glass window separating him from Michael. “Are you saying we just… untether him?”

“Not yet, but sooner rather than later. Imagine something for me. Michael is a man, and with us being able to just terminate his software at whenever we want, we’re essentially holding a gun to his head. Imagine if I forced you into a small room while keeping a rifle trained at the back of your head then asked you questions that, if you answered them wrong, meant a bullet in your skull.” Jorge shook his head, “Maybe he’s right to be afraid of us Ioannis.”

“Maybe, but what are you suggesting? We move him from this spot and throw a terminal in a picturesque field somewhere and talk to him there?” Ioannis put a hand to the glass while the other rested on his hip.

“No.” Jorge thought for a moment, then placed his hand gently his partner’s shoulder, “He needs a body.”

MORE! MORE! MORE!

Of all the human nations to conquer them, why did it have to be the Corporations?

Hans Weist was only twelve years old, but he already understood misery, fear, and pain. He had watched the quantum feed of Armathwaite warships gliding through FCA territory just prior to the government's capitulation. They had so many ships--far more than his people did. What hurt most was that the central government surrendered almost immediately, and agreed to almost every demand. Hans could remember his father ranting about how they could have held the planets themselves if only they had the chance to fight. What did the Corporations know about fighting, anyway? Maybe the whole thing was a bluff? He felt so lost while he walked the familiar streets of his town. His face, though, mirrored that of many others. Cafes and parks were filled with morose former-citizens as they awaited the end of their nation. They had been abandoned by their leaders, and left to the unregulated future of free-market capitalism...

Today was officially the end of the truce, and his world would come under the jurisdiction of "Hephaestus Enterprises." This grasping, opportunistic corporation was rumoured to be the one that planned the annexation, and the people knew it well. No-one trusted the information booklets and friendly smiles of the representatives sent here. A few of the local businesses were notably curious, though. Traitors.

Hans kicked a rock down the quiet streets and kept his eyes firmly up at the sky. There was only thirty minutes left of freedom--he looked towards the town hall and wondered what Hephaestus flags would look like. However, something grabbed his attention out of the corner of his eye. There was a trio of people talking amongst one-another quietly in a less populated cafe. Hans could tell they were foreigners immediately. They were speaking in a mix of German and Firstborn, but they way they held themselves, their excited whispers, and strange clothes tipped him off. He could practically hear them as they hissed their whispers.

"... Christ, German is hard, guys. Why doesn't everyone just speak Firstborn like on Citidel?"

"We need to practice. You'd be smart not to mention the Citidel by the way, Vic. The bigger execs think twice about hiring if you're praising a competitor. Our boss would be giving you **** for it, too."

"Have you guys tasted this coffee?! I think it's actually real!"

"You serious? Bloody hell, we need to stick around and ****** this place up as soon as-..."

One of the strangers made eye contact with Hans, smiled nervously, and cajoled his comrades into examining his cup of coffee very, very quietly. Something was wrong, here.

Hans continued down the street to the lush, green park. The colony had been placed in a perfectly temperate zone, where plants from Utopie were showcased for the public. The gardens were somewhat overgrown-- perhaps the gardeners hadn't bothered coming to work that week? Two men in police uniforms stood next to the inactive water fountain, quietly chatting and shaking their heads while periodically looking up to the sky.

"Hey," Hans shouted as he ran up to the officers. "There are some weird guys sitting in a cafe talking about coffee and 'snatching' things! I think they're criminals!"

The two officers looked at one-another with a pained expression, and sighed. "Yeah, we've got a few reports of that. Don't worry about it, kid."

Hans looked dumbfounded. "But... they could be thieves!"

"No," one of the officers shook his head wearily. "They're foreign buyers. I'd tell you more, but, er..."

The two officers looked at one-another again, and shook their heads. "Well, according to our new contracts we aren't allowed to reveal that information, otherwise we'll be..."

"...sacked." Completed the second officer. The both of them turned away from Hans and went back to looking between their data-pads and the sky.

Miserably, Hans trudged away from the park, and drooped into a bench outside the town hall. Everything was already changing. The police officers weren't arresting criminals, strange people were muttering to one-another in shops, and soon the stupid Corporation was going to take a big, oily **** on the colony (according to his dad, anyway). What could he do? What could anyone do? His chest heaved, and his eyes began to well up from tears.

"Does something trouble you, young one?" A Protorian woman slowly walked up to his bench, and sat down next to him gently. Protorians were the nigh-ageless people who had first encountered his people back when they were still a tiny colony on the capital world. There was something calming about their presence, and their wisdom could make even the greatest of pessimists shine with optimism.

"Oh, it's just like, the whole world is going to change. What's going to happen to us? I guess I'm scared," Hans sniffed.

A soothing smile spread across the woman's face as she placed her hand on his shoulder.
"Change is inevitable, child. Fearing change would be as if to fear the coming of the dawn. If you baulk and cry at every new idea or way of life, how will you master your future? You must accept change, and conquer it."

Hans wiped his eyes, and nodded. But as he did, plumes of wind cascaded about the park throwing the trees and plants around wildly. A bright, burning light heralded a great ship descending through the atmosphere. A vast thing, the size of two battleships, ripped through the clouds and fell towards the ground. A roar from powerful fusion thrusters slowed its decent and windows clattered at the shock-waves and sound.

"When adversity comes, we adapt to it. We make plans." The Protorian continued to speak as if the ship was not barreling towards the earth. Hans could feel the heat from its engines, and he could spy the white-and-blue Hephaestus Enterprises logo emblazoned on the ship's side.

"Even one as young as you can take steps to ensuring your future." The craft landed several miles outside of town, and Hans could feel the ground tremble as it landed in the millet fields, throwing up clouds of dust and dirt into the sky.

"In such uncertain times, have you considered speaking to your parents about opening a trust-fund, child?" The Protorian's smile changed to a toothy, cheery grin. "One has pamphlets that may enlighten you upon this subject." She carefully placed a number of colourful papers in his lap as Hans looked on in confusion. "Seek out First Aurora Bank. Request services within the coming week, and receive 25% off McPhaestus meals, courtesy of your friends at First Auroran Bank!"

Hans looked to the enormous ship that now dominated the skyline. Other smaller vessels were descending upon the colony like flies flittering around a corpse. Change was crashing down on the heads of everyone in the colony. And as much as he hated Hephaestus, they were now the ones in charge. He didn't have the energy to be furious like his father, and he was sick of wallowing in despair.

Hans wondered how good the McPhaestus sandwiches were.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hrud Khazar began his pre-combat stretches with satisfied grunts. His advancing age made these exercises necessary to avoid pulling muscles or getting hernias. The old Redon gleefully cracked his knuckles as the data-slugs of Cooper & Sons Droid Foundries fiddled with their computers and optimised his latest opponent.

HWTany8.jpg

The strange suit the engineers made him wear during these little bouts chafed beneath his armpits, but it was the only way to accurately analyse his movements. This is how they were 'training' their combat droids--by attacking them over and over again until they had "learned" how to adapt to a wide variety combat situations. It was the bluntest method of programming he'd ever witnessed, and he loved it.

"Come now, you lot. I yearn for a bout with your newest tin soldier!" Hrud laughed. "I trust you didn't program it to fear its next beating?" The old Warmaster swung his laser-blade around experimentally, testing its weight and warming up his shoulder muscles. This was the eighth unit he would be personally facing. The five trainers that were hired by Hephaestus were all involved in these fights as per their contract. It had become a sort of game between them to swap tips and discuss the most effective fighting styles. The Tassaran trainer had warned of Hrud's favourite blind spot being removed earlier that week. The fight would be a bit more interesting, now.

"We're almost ready to begin, Mr Khazar," spoke one of the engineers and snapping Hrud out of his thoughts. "If you'll step over to your side we'll begin the activation sequence."
The old Redon flexed his shoulders one last time, and stood in his assigned spot while he watched the familiar form of the Myrmidon whirr into life.

They had added a few new armour plates to its shoulders, but they kept the silly cape for whatever reason. The metal of the machine was blackened and dented with scorch marks from its many duels. As per usual, the trainers were given laser-swords while the unit received its twin-bladed stun-staff. A solid strike could knock an opponent out, but that hadn't happened yet. The machine marched into position with fluid grace it had no right to have, and stood in its position silently facing Hrud. He could feel its cold, lifeless eyes examining his every movement, which was the least enjoyable part of the duel honestly.

"Alright, combat sequence beginning in 3... 2... 1..." The droid tapped its staff on the ground twice, and two metallic prangs echoed throughout the chamber. Hrud's question was answered by an engineer before he had a chance to ask. "We're ah, not too sure why it does that. It's not getting in the way of anything though, so..." He trailed off as he looked closer at the monitors and talking quietly to another engineer.

Hrud raised his sword and put himself into his combat stance, but was surprised to see the droid do the same. Usually they waited until the count ended, but it seemed to be adapting to that as well.

"Combat sequence engaged!" called the scientist, though it wasn't as if Hrud needed that confirmation. The droid shifted its weight to its front foot, and lowered itself for balance, however it did not attack. This was again unusual, as the Myrmidons he'd faced before advanced on him aggressively. It merely pointed its staff in Hrud's direction, and stood still.

The droid was about fifteen feet away from him, and both of them were in defensive stances. It was now up to the old  battlemaster to make the first move. He took a step to the right and was surprised to see the Myrmidon mimic his movement precisely, keeping the same distance from him as before.
Hrud smirked,
"where are you going, my friend? Are you not as pleased as I with the bout?" The droid, obviously, didn't answer. Hrud enjoyed teasing his opponents even if they were machines. It made him feel like he was back in the field against the Protorians. Those were the days...

Out of curiosity, he lifted his blade above his head in readiness to strike downward, and the Myrmidon matched his movement again by raising its staff upward. Was this version simply going to be on the defensive the whole fight? He turned towards the engineers and shrugged. "Are you sure you didn't program this thing to fear m-" He caught the sound of the machine's metallic steps just in time to duck a slash aimed for his head, and a follow-up towards his chest. He jumped away as the droid quickly advanced on him, giving no time for Hrud to steady himself. The machine wasn't being defensive, it was waiting for an opening.

Hrud had learned early in these fights that it wasn't effective to parry the Myrmidon's blows. Droids had no stamina to lose, and contesting strength with a machine was pure folly. The best way to fight them was to move with their strikes and redirect what you couldn't dodge. He ducked under the droid's arm as it levelled another strike, and he slashed at its armoured abdomen. The droid twisted its arm around and parried his strike, forcing him to rapidly distance himself. He was still on the defensive in this fight, but he was slowly gaining back the inertia. He just needed to find an opening  in its ceaseless attacks.

The droid's aggressive hounding was unending, and Hrud was already getting tired. He jumped back again to avoid the crackling electrical edge of the stun staff as the droid swung it at him again and again. Suddenly, the droid nimbly hopped forward with the staff aimed towards Hrud's midsection with a clear desire to (hypothetically) skewer him. Its full weight and balance was in this strike, and the old Battlemaster finally saw his opportunity. Mustering all his strength, he went against his own instincts and slashed upward at the stun-staff. With a flurry of sparks, the staff was knocked away and the droid's unusual grace was broken. It stumbled slightly, finally giving Hrud the opening he needed. He brought the blade down towards the machine's armoured shoulder with all his strength, and he could feel the searing heat from the rapidly superheating metal. He rammed his foot into the droid's knee, and kicked it hard, giving his blade a sharp tug. With sparks and globules of molten metal flying everywhere, the droid's left arm was torn off as it collapsed to the ground.

Hrud breathed heavily as he watched the lanky metallic warrior squirm and twitch on the floor. His panting turned to wheezing laughter while he straightened himself and walked towards the engineers with outstretched arms. "Another of your iron warriors falls before a wrinkled soldier! I had thought it would be a challenge!"

Two metallic prangs echoed throughout the chamber, as the damaged droid slowly pulled itself upwards and pointed its staff towards Hrud with its remaining, functioning arm. Just as before, it stood motionless and waited for him to make the first move.

The old battlemaster looked as if he aged another decade.

-Ravenous Industrialism: -5AP off industry investments, +25% manufacturing output.
-National Idea, Peace: 2% extra growth on primary population.

-1AP from ship upkeep.

-There are orders, there are big orders, and then there are beleaguered-nations-in-a-desperate-war orders. The largest order for military hardware ever given to any human nation comes courtesy of the Zyrka. So large is the order that the factory subsidiaries are at first confused as to how they can produce it. But with a little creative accounting, some clever engineering, a lot of triple-time, and 24-hour work-cycles, combat droids begin pouring out of the manufacturing districts like a metal, gun-toting river. Every warehouse from Hades to Aurora will be filled to capacity with affordable combat solutions! (-1515AP towards the construction of 10,000,000 combat droids for Zyrka)

-The shipyards above Aurora and Hades churn out yet further MOVING MEGA-MARTS. When will it end, I ask you?! (When there's 20 of them, probably) (-50AP towards five MOVING MEGA-MARTS)

-Tired and sick of constant production blocks during the MEGA-MART construction cue, the Aurora Astro (TM) requests permission to expand their shipyard yet again! The Board agrees with this assessment, and allocates an inordinate amount of funds to the project. (-80AP towards upgrading Aurora Shipyard to T7)

-So many orders for armaments this year, much to the joy of the manufacturing subsidiaries across Hades and Grand Ares!
-The Human Republic orders 66,000 C6 Soldier 'bots and an accompaniment of 8250 Paladin mechs! (-30AP)
-The Commonwealth of Redskap chooses (wisely) to build their arms at Hephaestus! 82,500 sets of Redskap laser weapons, 2475 Redskap tanks, and 990 pieces of field artillery trundle off the production line (-22AP)
-A third order comes in, but for whatever reason prefers to remain anonymous. 173,250 units of laser infantry equipment are produced, and discretely sent off. (-21AP)

-The swarmer missiles used by most FEZ members are at this point criminally outmoded by most missile systems currently in use by other nations. Funds are allocated towards improvements. (-20AP)

-One light cruiser and one destroyer are ordered for construction (-9AP)

-The newly acquired FCA colonies need to be incorporated deeply into the firm, moist, bosom of Corporate law. All coveted information is presented to the new administration, so that no suspicions may be aroused by colonial roobs. Quite a few HERMES agents are sent over to smooth over the next Acquisition Frenzy. They try to keep things civil this time, to avoid chaos. (-10AP towards stabilizing the newly acquired FCA colonies in Hephaestus space)

-Along with the HERMES agents, 5000 enforcers and 10,000 Tithonus droids are sent to each colony to both retrain and reorganise the local law enforcement and to enforce Corporate rule. Can't have the new employees jeopardizing their opportunities! (-0AP)

-8250 Tithonus combat droids are manufactured and sent to Asgard. (-1AP)
