Human Republic

“Navigational changes in progress. Standby.” the onboard AI stated as the bridge crew looked out the window.

“This is risky, you know that?” a digitized voice spoke. “Risk versus reward, we can’t keep operating under the constant watch of the Republic or the ‘Alliance’ of Xenos.”

“Navigational re-route commencing, twenty ninth course rework finished.” the AI spoke as the pair of vessels made constant jumps and drops throughout space.

“Without the Republic’s Industry and Shipyard access-” the Captain would interrupt “I’m well aware of that fact, but it doesn’t matter. We’ve secured more than enough of what we need to establish ourselves, besides our Sovereign is still working alongside and inside the Republic.”

“This is an entirely Private venture, well within her legal right to do.”

“If it was legal..then why have we made twenty nine course adjustments, Screened the crew to an absolute maximum, taken the bare minimum of anything to not raise ‘suspicion’, and have a human only crew?”

“Because Xeno’s have no place where we are going, nor do they have a place in our mission. Humanity is the mission, it’s survival our goal no matter the cost.”

“I doubt Sovereign Usenko would approve of such a view.” she’d cross her arms looking at the captain. “She doesn’t have too.” he says looking out the viewport as they drop out of warp.

“Orbital Bodies Located, twin planets current range from the sun puts them at the same distance as Terra.”

“Cold and very non-welcoming, just what we wanted.”

“You’re certain about this, Syrz?”

“The dirty Attusians think themselves invincible! If we want our allies to help, I have no choice. I will prove them wrong, colonel.”

The Rontan stormed out of the room, and Hu Yan’s concerned expression faded into one of amusement. If he had doubted the Jinyiwei’s ability to stir up chaos in the past, that notion had been dispelled the moment he’d returned to Han space. The people of Rontus were at each other’s throats, and no one seemed to notice that the belligerents were the two superpowers where Han investment had fallen most heavily.

But the job was not done, and so Hu Yan had been sent as an advisor to the Kachak pact, where he was to keep them convinced that the war could be won. As he exited General Syrz’s headquarters, he passed two disappointed-looking Ganvius observers, and winked. In the distance was the fortified city of Jetklan, still smoking from Attusian air raids. It had been taken the day before, and now Kachak was going to take it back.

If he had been maybe half as smart as he was, Yan thought, he might have liked to be a soldier. There was something thrilling in watching the vast cogs of an army whirr into motion, the massed strength of a nation hundreds of millions strong. The Kachak pact was made up of several such nations, and even though not all had yet joined the fighting, the ones who had still brought enough determination to go around. Yan had watched three major clashes since he arrived, and in each one they’d suffered abominable casualties. Attuse was the wealthy, advanced “heart of Rontus” after all. But it made not a shred of difference to how Kachak fought. Today, like before, they loaded their soldiers into armored cars, massed tanks together, and the constant rumble of artillery raised to a deafening thunder.

Yan wanted them to win: though he could say nothing about it, Chan was on the other side of the lines, working the same mission for the enemy. Every night he called her, and he didn’t think he could stand it if she was able to gloat again over the quality of her advice. That’s why he had done a bit of extra work this time.

Kachak’s assault started the moment the first rays of sun crept over the nearby mountains. A massive tank column hundreds strong surged into no-mans-land, while thousands of infantry advanced alongside, backed by thousands more. In the highlands around them the fight would have gone on through the night, and Yan was happy not to have been there: despite their short stature the Rontan were fierce fighters, curling like pillbugs to roll through hails of bullets. An infantry battle on Rontus was a chaotic melee, and few made it out unscathed.

He and the Ganvius observers were to watch at a safe difference, and he chatted with them in a cordoned-off area for foreigners, exchanging empty pleasantries on how unfortunate the war was.

“Senseless butchery,” said one.

“Pointless slaughter,” said another.

“Such a waste,” agreed Yan, his attention elsewhere. On the north side of the battlefield, to his left, there was an even but sheltered patch of ground in the arid highlands, overlooking both the city and the eastern road into it. It would make a perfect place for heavy artillery to isolate the target. Had the general taken note of his offhand remarks the night before?

In the valley, the tanks began to run into resistance. Attuse had worked quickly: a minefield was already in place blocking their advance as much as Kachak’s. They must have been expecting a counterattack after all, and Yan realized Chan knew him better than he gave her credit for. The thought only made him more determined to win.

General Syrz was ruthless. With their armor held up the infantry advanced straight into the minefield, clearing it by hand or by their sacrifice. Every so often the roar of jets would fill the sky, and Attusian bombers would sweep in to defend their gains. Yet still the soldiers of Kachak pushed forward. Yan watched a dozen tanks fall to an ambush through his binoculars, and then surmised that the Attusians had been subsequently surrounded and caught. The opposition was effective - if they could reinforce their numbers, and they usually could, they would beat Syrz’s back.

Now the army was at the city outskirts. Machine gun fire belched from garrisoned buildings, and the advance slowed. This army had been in this position before, and it had never turned out well. Attuse had maintained air superiority for the entire war thus far, and the general had few options to clear strong defensive positions. The tanks would penetrate a few blocks, but beyond that the city would be a death trap.

Suddenly though the Han’s heart leapt, as despite the odds The Kachakers were receiving precision support against the defenses. He looked to the highlands with his binoculars, and grinned with excitement. Somehow, in the night, Kachak had taken his position! With proper air defenses and some decent artillery crews, they could more than match the Attusian air force in express-delivered destruction. As he watched, already Kachak infantry was pouring into the town’s streets, the assault moving along smoothly.

“Three-one,” Yan thought in satisfaction, smiling. Though he was at still at risk from air raids outside the cordoned foreigner’s area, he turned to walk back to his quarters, already looking forward to speaking with Chan in the evening. He suspected she’d deny his role in the victory, but that was fine. There were going to be many, many battle to make up the difference.

Beyond the bounds of the galaxy, there was darkness. It wasn’t like the darkness at the edge of a solar system, nor even like the vast space between stars. It was the sort of inky blackness where a flashlight would seem to be a supernova, and yet at the same time the Milky Way hung below, a grey cloud strewn across the endless horizon.

Through this sea of black a single corvette crept forward, great flood lights spewing forward into the abyss and revealing nothing.

“Sensors are reading debris ahead, captain,” called the ship’s comms officer. “But no station.”

Feng was stonefaced as he ordered shields up. He had been angry when he found himself in Han space, but that anger had passed. He could not take out his frustrations on the likeable agents who had hired him in disguise, nor could he fault the soldiers on Hanguo for whisking away the mysterious package he’d delivered. They were all the minions of his adoptive father, and he would save his decades of angst for Shi Yimu.

But now Yimu was missing.

Feng recalled his briefing. Before he could leave the planet, the odd priest character who seemed to run the place now had summoned him, looking desperate and ragged. There was a station, he had learned. A prison, out here where the light of a trillion stars could not penetrate. The priest would tell him little else, apart from that his father had last been known to be there, and had not returned.

A fleck of light on the viewscreen, a mote of dust reflecting the headlights. They were close. Then a door, a piece of plumbing, and finally the entire rear half of a transport came into view. Feng glanced at the sensor readings as he called a halt. The ruins of Heibai station floated all around them.

“What in Yuguo’s name happened here?” the first officer was the first to speak. Tangled in the ruins and debris were bodies. Most were Han. Others had the carapace and mandibles of Ar’gakari, their black eyes staring lifeless into his.

“The debris field appears heavily irradiated,” the comms officer spoke unsteadily. “A reactor overload?”

“Maybe,” said Feng at last. The station had been torn to bits, but who could have found it out here? “Life signs?” He asked without particular hope.

“None, sir. But there are still power signatures coming from that transport.”

The captain doubted it. The twisted wreck floating in front of them was barely recognizable. But the priest had asked for a report, and he would gather one. “Tell security to meet me at airlock three. Bring me a vac-suit.” No one contradicted him. The corvette was keeping watch, and its commander was never one to give up this kind of chance to prove his bravery.

A minute later, Feng had pushed off the ship, and was gliding towards the wreck accompanied by two ensigns. There was no identifiable name, but it looked like the kind of transport his father would use, small and comfortable. Sparks flew occasionally from where the ship had been ripped apart. Perhaps there was still something inside.

The corvette pulled in closer, and Feng and his men spent the next hour creating a temporary coupling between the ships, filling the most intact hallway with breathable air. The bridge was sealed, and if anyone was inside there would be no killing them when he entered. He needn’t have worried.

The door to the wreck’s bridge was forcibly opened, and nobody was inside. Some of the men wondered aloud how the door could have been sealed with an empty bridge, but Feng was silent. The lights were still on and faintly flickering, and the ship’s computer seemed still barely functioning, albeit while emitting a constant faint noise of static. The captain leaned in to inspect it, and suddenly the noise was unbearable. Almost unintelligible, he heard laughter, and then a voice.

“Too late, Shi Feng…….” The voice crackled and cut out over the poor speakers on the ship, and Feng lept back. Again, laughter echoed in the bridge. “............late………already won………...home.”

“Who the hell are you?” Feng looked around him, and noticed that his men were swiftly backing away, back down the hallway. “Tell me what happened here.”

“Human fool!” The laughter was back, maniacal and shattered by intense static. “Don’t recogn…….livered yourself?.....won in the e………..gika Traa’k………...igh Commander of the Ar’ga………...”

None of it made any sense to Feng. He shook his head, and heard his first officer calling from the end of the hall.

“Sir? Something wrong?”

“May have found something,” he replied, narrowing his eyes as he turned back to the console. He could not tell where the voice was coming from. The communications unit seemed irreparably damaged. “What happened here?” He asked, ignoring who he was talking to. “Where is Shi Yimu?”

At that, the laughter hit a sudden crescendo, and the static rang in his ears. It was a shrieking laugh, the kind one might hear from the kind of person who’d be quietly put down on Yuguo. “Dead!” It cried victoriously. “...illed him! Ju….like he killed me! Killed me and put me in…….veryone else too! He thought he…………………...”

“Sir, the bridge says they’re detecting a power surge. You might want to come back.”

Feng took a step back, looking through the viewport at the destruction which surrounded him. “Dead?”

“....ead, Shi Feng.” The static suddenly cut out, the voice as clear as if someone had been standing just next to him. “And you’re next.”

Feng was not the type to run. But he ran then, down the hallway as the laughter came again, and the half-ship bucked and heaved. A single reactor, undetected at low power output, overloaded in an instant, and Feng threw himself clear as the wreck melted. The shock hit his corvette immediately after, and the wall around the airlock instantly collapsed inward. Not fatal damage, and he had his vac-suit still. But it would be a slow journey back.

His father was dead. Whatever that had been, it had killed him. Feng couldn’t blame it, he had wanted to do so on many occasions. But as he walked back to his bridge in a daze, he couldn’t help but feel empty….

Two hundred thousand Indian refugees arrive in Han space. They aren’t exactly the pure Han master race, but with such a shortage of manpower the Triple Crescent takes what it can get. A new colony is to be founded next year, where the newcomers can have some level of self-governance - under the watchful eye of the Jinyiwei, of course. The colony ship is already on hand from years before.

Somewhere in the galaxy, Yimu still breathes.

The 'Grgl Gondola' puttered through a Protorian solar checkpoint and continued on to Proteum Davun deeper in the system. On the observation deck an ancient human gazed up at the alien warships and defences with barest of interest. This was the third time he'd been here. Or perhaps fourth...? He didn't really remember. Ever since he left 'Failure Central' (Earth) the galaxy had felt smaller and smaller. Once that thought seemed exciting, but the unknowable was known and the impossible realised. Now all he could think about was the ticking clock that had been in the back of his mind for twenty years to the day. In one of his gnarled and weak hands, he slowly turned a coin. The coin was a promise -or a 'deal' depending on who you asked- of life afforded to the eccentric industrialist Steven Penrith. This was on the promise (contractual obligation) that he would return the coin to the Archivar Selraku after twenty years, and now those twenty years were up.

That's how he chose to remember it, anyway. His memory was bad enough without over-complicating things. Only problem was the one who gave it to him happened to be very, very dead. But **** it, a promise was a promise, and he wasn't going to let minor technicalities get in the way of his business.

"Excuse me, Steven?" The condescendingly pleasant tone of his head nurse Nancy penetrated his door like a rusty nail tearing through paper. Steven scowled at the doorway and muttered the command for it to open. Nancy, a short, plump woman of human-redon descent entered with three other cheerful looking orderlies. "We're almost there, sir! We'd just like to look you over before we touch down-- make sure you haven't got any welts or sores on your skin, and check for any accidents today. Is that all right, Steven?"

The old man sighed deeply. Death couldn't come quick enough.

After a long flight (and far too much invasive scrubbing), the tiny freighter finally landed on a platform just outside of the Protorian Archives. Steven grumbled angrily as his orderlies helped him down the ramp and up the stairway to the cavernous library. At the doorway, the bubbling anger, embarrassment, and misery finally boiled over.

"You lot, bugger off back to the ship. This is private."

Nancy glanced nervously to the other orderlies before her slow, saccharine tone returned with a smile. "Steven, I think it'd be better if we followed along with you. You don't have your wheelchair and-"

"I said bugger off!" Steven roared hoarsely. Though there was further resistance to the idea, Steven managed to convince his dutiful orderlies through strategic yelling and strikes from his cane. After they had all retreated back to the ship, he took a moment to take in his surroundings.

While the planet’s activity had vastly increased due to the Allied Council establishing its headquarters nearby, the Archive wing was strangely quiet. If it wasn't for the small maintenance drones whizzing above his head every so often he'd have thought the place abandoned. His eyes were not as good as they used to be--he thought there was a Protorian scholar far off in the distance, but it was just a few drones flying close to the ground. He took a moment to observe one for its marketing potential, but quickly remembered why he had come here. There was no longer reason to perform business-related investigations or inquiries, and this made him feel a little empty inside.

After a long period of hobbling with intermittent rests, he arrived at a great, central room. A throne, supposedly where the Archivar would sit, was placed in the middle of a central dais. Apparently the previous Archivar was entombed beneath, and for Steven this was as close as he could get to handing the coin back to him. He stood and stared at the spot for a few minutes with only the gentle hum of the surrounding databanks breaking up the silence. Finally, he reached in his pocket, and pulled out the spiral-patterned coin.

"Here you go, mate." He muttered as he flicked it on the floor with an echoing 'ping.' "Done. Nice joke. May I bloody die, now?"

"That's rather rude, Steven Penrith. You should not talk to my brother like that." A reply came from his side, as the current Archivar Kradoku himself stepped out into the open. He may have been drawn by Steven's very diplomatic dismissal of his party. From what could be seen of the data-pad he was carrying, he was interrupted from viewing Saryn artwork. Bloody nerd.

"Though, to your benefit, you are the first to do that." He hummed, smiling mildly--something one attuned to the alignment of death was rarely known to do.

Steven turned as quickly as his feeble frame allowed and squinted at Kradoku. "Hey? This joker had a brother?" He glanced back down at the coin for a moment, then turned fully towards the Archivar. "So do I give this stupid coin back to you then, or is there some kind of return box?"

"Coin?" Kradoku approached, setting the datapad aside on a nearby table. He stood next to Steven, looking down at the coin that lay on the ornate floor. "He gave you that?" he said as he knelt down to pick it up.

"Yeah, the cheeky bastard." Steven pointed a wobbling hand at the coin angrily, remembering the day the Archivar gave it to him. "Brief immortality for the sake of some in-joke with him and the old bastard in the white digs." Even the act of moving his arm was exhausting, and he dropped it with a wheezing cough.

"I've had my twenty years. I'm tired. I should have died decades ago. He said to bring it back when I reckoned it was my time to go, so here I am." He glared at the floor where the coin once lay.  "I'm pretty annoyed he decided to kark it himself, though."

Kradoku nodded slowly, turning the coin around to its back reading a tiny inscription upon it. "’A promise unbroken.’" He looked up to Steven again. "Does that mean anything to you?" The Protorian's golden eyes examined Steven thoroughly, almost as if looking through him rather than at him. Steven was unsure if it was unique to Protorians or psionics, but the previous Archivar was much the same. Damn space-wizards.

"The previous feller said I'd have twenty extra years to live. I thought once I tossed the coin, I'd fall over, or something." He shook his head at the coin in the Archivar's hand with an angry grunt. "That's probably what it meant.”

"If it is truly death you wish for," the Protorian motioned to the coin, "and this is to be left behind here, I can help you."

Steven regarded the Archivar for a moment before nodding slowly. "Yeah alright. What are you going to do. Vaporise me, or something?"

"Give you eternal sleep." Came the calm reply from Kradoku. "Or in other terms, dissolve your lifeforce. To allow you the rest you desire."

"Bloody wonderful!" Steven wheezed with sarcastic triumph. He leaned on his cane, and made himself as comfortable as possible while closing his eyes. "Get on with it, then. I've got a schedule, here."

Steven felt Kradoku placing a hand upon his head. "Apologies, this may seem a bit... off-putting. It will be over in a bit." Seconds passed and then Kradoku's hand seemed to withdraw. For a moment Steven thought the deed was done, but then he felt something else. A presence, perhaps?

"Brother, this is not the way it's intended." Came a familiar voice as if from a distant memory. Steven opened his eyes suddenly, and saw Salraku, the previous Archivar holding back his brother's hand. Behind Salraku stood a rather unassuming old man clad in a white suit-- the Guardian of the Milky Way.

"Aw ****'s sake." He groaned.

"Well, Steven, that's one way to say hello." Spoke the Old One. "You returned the coin I assume? That would belong to me now." He stated as he casually plucked it out of a surprised and baffled Kradoku's hand.

"Yeah, look mate, get to my age and you really stop caring about the pleasantries." He patted down his coat with a loud, irritated tsk. "What are you and this joker doing here? That one's supposed to be dead, right? He can swap with me, if he likes."

"Spot on." Stated the Old One. Salraku laughed warmly at the comment. "That's exactly what's going to happen now."

The Old One's words seemed to catch Steven briefly off-balance. "Oh. Alright. Well." Steven cleared his throat and drummed his fingers on his handle of his cane. "Go on. You got your coin back. Is this the part where I die, or are we going to just stand in a room looking at one-another?"

"The door is behind you, Steven Penrith." Salraku said, gesturing. Steven glanced behind himself, and indeed a door had opened on one of the walls of data-banks. It appeared almost as if it had always been there, but just out of sight.

"But before we go through, let's fix a few things," the Old One added. As he approached Steven, he carefully turned him around towards the wide opening as white light poured from it. When he faced it fully, Steven could feel himself straightening up, and his muscles felt stronger and tougher. He looked down to his hands and watched as the years of wrinkles and age-spots slowly melted away from his skin. "There we go, that is much better, don't you think?"

"Hey!" Steven stretched his legs, and pushed a hand through his thick, itching head of hair. "Well that makes a nice change! I could hardly remember what it was like to have control over my bowels!"

He shifted in place awkwardly and readjusted his trousers. "Diaper's a touch uncomfortable though. Ah **** it, I'm dying. Who cares."

The Old One cleared his throat and snapped his fingers, and Steven felt the uncomfortable heft of his nappy be replaced by svelte, conventional undergarments. "The door ahead." The Old One said, as he placed an arm around Steven's to gently push him along. "I am sure you have a lot of questions, don't you? I will tell you everything you want to know once we are through, but first there are some people up ahead. Some friends perhaps? I think they have been waiting for you." The Old One rambled, as they walked towards the door, leaving behind Salraku and Kradoku.

"Oh yeah? Well, that's the bloody best I could hope for!" Steven chortled as he squinted at the bright light. "And here I was thinking heaven would be some kind of philosophical meta bullshit..."

"To be honest, it can be anything, Steven. Anything you want." The Old One remarked. "Now you should definitely go and see what Jason Woolard has been doing. Personally, if I had an opinion about it... so, wasteful..."

And with that, the door slowly closed behind them. In this case literally, and figuratively. This was the end of the story for Steven Penrith, but in the grand scheme of things he was nothing special.

He was neither an intellectual, or a politician.

He never had nefarious plots, or a desire to engage in skulduggery.

He never sought to harm if he could help it.

He was just a strange little man who wanted to sell the galaxy microwaves at an affordable price, and never complicated things beyond that. Some would say he was an idiot, or a bloviating ‘bag of greed.’

He was a businessman, an entrepreneur, an industrialist, and a dreamer.

But in the end, he was still only a human. And he was content with that.

Imagine for a moment there is a very big game being played that nobody knows about.

And among all the normal mortals--all the races present in the Milky Way and those close by--nobody knows about it.

Except that Salraku happens to know. Well, know-ish.

He predicted some things, and predicted them correctly. The little spiral coin was given to him for a favour he did the Guardian.

It was meant to grant him a free wish from that same Guardian's powers.

And what occurred is exactly what Salraku wished for, because of that same foresight.

But fate isn't written.

Liam Fulamius strode down the luxurious hotel hallway. As a member of HERMES, he was contractually barred from taking on private work without the consent of the Board or the HERMES administrator. However, he was a man of significant ambition, and when he smelled a big payday he grasped it with both hands and damned the risks.

A Tassaran by birth, his family had been living in Corporate space since first contact. It was rumoured that his mother and father had been professional escorts when they met, and Liam had the handsome features of one who would excel in that same line of work. But good looks, a smooth voice, and a lovely smile were just as useful in business as they were in prostitution--some would argue the two fields were very similar.

Millicent Suites was the premier hotel on the resort-world Aphrodite. Its grounds spanned kilometres in order to cater to the vast numbers of visitors, but this month was quiet, due to the planet's winter season having arrived. It was still sunny, but not really swimming or hiking weather.

Finally arriving at his clients door, he straightened his tie, put on his best smile, and pressed a little blinking button on the door-frame. A tinny, automated voice rang out after a short beep.

"PLEASE STATE YOUR NAME FOR THE OCCUPANT."

"Ryan Seacrest," Liam announced with a smirk.

"PLEASE WAIT." The voice went silent. After a few moments, a number of clicks emanated from the door, and it slid to the side. Liam sauntered forward into the suite.

The place was tastefully decorated. He had expected something a bit more obscenely decadent when he first came here, but it was clear the designer had taste. Turning a corner into the main sitting room, his client sat with her legs crossed on a sofa. Blond, and in her late twenties, she was flicking through something slowly on a datapad and nursing a cigarette. The open bottle of wine and well-filled ashtray gave away her distress despite her cool appearance.

"Hello Ryan." She spoke monotonously. "Have you more for me?"

Liam, or "Ryan" in this case, tried his best to look sympathetic. "I'm afraid I do have more pictures, Mrs Penrith. Video, too. Your husband has been very, ah, busy, if you don't mind me saying."

"Say what you like about him." Snapped Alaya, putting down her datapad. "All I care about is knowing how many women he's been sleeping with since we've been married. That way, I'll be able to tell him their names when I castrate the bastard in front of his ******* Board."

Liam nodded quickly, and placed the evidence down on the coffee table. He tried not to look smug, but failed so dramatically that he was worried he'd laugh.

-Fleet expansion was prepared once more. 1 dreadnought, 1 battleship, 4 carriers, 3 support carriers, 2 experimental beholders, and 1 light cruiser. (-150AP)

Furthering Empire’s Claims

In most recent news is the collapse of the Zyrka. The Utopians, who had plenty of personal history with the Eadni, saw their chance. The Eadni had tried to genocide the former Utopie and shatter the Affiliation. And for that they would never be forgiven. Alongside this the mines of the Eadni’s formal capital were vital. The Redon’s had left it to the Zyrka, but now was clearly the time to press those claims. The Duke petitions the new Redon to push said claims, and retake the former Eadni Capital.

Important; Surveying the records of the 4k Psionic graduates and roughly 6k draftees from the Imperial academy/Utopie Records for gifted members. Alongside assessment of Duke’s Psionic power.

“Reactors at peak efficiency” Sounds continued to be emitted from the control room below him as the leadership of the United states stood looking out the large video panels that showed the target in sight. “Targeting array information uplink established” Admiral Jones stood next to President Cuthos as they studied the data-pad “The expected effects on a world with atmosphere are amplified at least 20 fold.” James nodded slowly as the rest of the group comprising of different congressmen and military officers looked back to the viewing monitors

“Initiate power coupling sequence.”

The lights throughout the station began to dim as everyone began to grow silent.

The Fire Control Officer continued running down his checklist.

“EXS Primed, power conduits green.”

“Initiate loading sequence.”

Deep inside the massive station yellow lights flicked as a large magnetic lift slowly began lowering a 100 ton itoron-dakite projectile into the chamber a laser quickly scanned the outside in a final check as the breech sealed and air was evacuated from the loop.

“Beginning projectile runup.”

The floor beneath President Cuthos began to rumble deeply as the massive slug begin to go around its electro magnetic loop carefully guided along as it made its way around the 300km loop, first once then faster and faster.

“Beginning final target solutions check.”

Even so far below them James could hear the sound as the projectile traveled in its loop, looking up to the monitor he watched at its velocity increased .10C then .20C, Looking out at the planet below it was covered in rock, ice and dirt. He looked back as it slowly crept up .70C .90C.

“Standby for firing.”

Everyone in the room held their breath as the velocity display finally hit .99C

“Firing”

As the Projectile went around the loop for a final time the magnetic fields changed and instead of being guided around the loop once more the itoron slug travelling at 99% of lightspeed flew out of the station.

The flash as the projectile hit the planet with the force of a 45959954 megatons momentarily reset the cameras, there was an audible gasp in the room as the video feed returned. The entire side of the planet was stripped from its blue icy surface as truly massive crater could be seen at the point of impact. Rock debris and ice could be seen travelling away from the point of impact at ludicrous speeds, the ‘planet’ if it could be called one anymore was a shattered cracked cratered ruin.

Several battleships, cruisers and a carrier disembarked from the stations well protected docking bays as they began to perform scans of the system.

“Take us home”

President James said calmly

Admiral Jones nodded “Of course Mr President” The admiral stepped towards the control room as the ships reactors once again began spewing out power to the FTL and the station warped away from the test site quickly as it had come. Leaving an eerie scene behind.

Chapter I: The Great Wars (Ended)

Chapter II: Old Shadows (Ended)

Chapter III Act 1: N’Fe a Te (Ended)

Chapter III Act 2 - Endgame

Alea iacta est

The Alduu’uuranean Protectorate was no more. A region of space fully overrun by a species that showed no remorse, did not reason, did not argue, but just came to kill and consume. The Drag’nix are advancing, steadily, never tired, always hungry. And thus millions of people are fleeing South. South, south, south, to safety, to gain distance between themselves and the maws of monsters. In the West, the frontlines against the Ar’gakari have grinded to a halt, thanks to the steady efforts of the Allied nations under command of Antor. However, the Zaxx and Rak’nak’thax remain cut off, encircled by Ar’gakari now, unable to render assistance or be helped.

What appears to be of help is that the Ar’gakari have finally clashed with the Drag’nix, the battles apparently needing more of their strength as they might have anticipated. One may just hope yet. However, always forgotten, is the third threat in the East. And this year, 2162, would be a milestone for the Keerim Imperium. And what a milestone it was going to be.

-----

Commonwealth of Redskap

Aside from a system holding a rich rocky giant covered in Itoron they find nothing else of value.

By Antor’s inquiry, on even exchange, the Shipyard capacities are being utilized to construct an assortment of destroyers and also Light Cruisers, to be manned by the Allied nations and to join the fight on the frontlines in the West.

The new colonies find their homes on worlds ranging from lush and forested to dry steppelands.

The State of Elysium

Encircled and cut off from the remainder of the galaxy, merely three nations remain with some kind of integrity. The Zaxx Empire hard pressed, short on combat craft and also losing a lot of manpower, the smaller nation of Rak’nak’thax and the State of Elysium. All they can do now is to dig in, to weather the Ar’gakari’s push. At least they have been given a moment of peace as the Ar’gakari have halted their advances, as they have clashed with the Drag’nix in the East.

With the Zyrka now flooding into the State of Elysium, it brings new innovation and prosperity. The creation of new sentient Synthetics goes incredibly smoothly, the know-how of the Zyrka is truly amazing. Michael himself might just say yes, for he could be fully aware that his continued existence is rather secured by fighting than getting slaughtered.

Asgard Republic

As the many allies before have tried and failed. The Ar’gakari technologies are like riddles, like living entities that defy any foreigner attempting to crack or access them.

Kingdom of Britannia/Silver Knight Corporation

And with tenous effort and exhausting the majority of the accumulated Dakite supplies, they finish the construction of the Dreadnought. A ship of such resilience it can barely be fathomed.

The Android and Synthetic research is in early steps, setting on from present robotics research, but with little experience and know-how at hand, it’s going to be a long and tedious task.

Human Republic

With the additional access from the Allied Council to technologies further beyond and scraping together what there is on record and still exists physically (namely the Protorian Avatar vessels), a functional schematic that passes all standard stress tests and mechanical requirements is finally developed and ready to be built. However it requires a shipyard of substantial capacity and is certainly a very expensive investment.

The Han Dominion

The Rontan homeworld delves deeper into its world war. More nations of both Attuse and Kachak begins to join in, the resources and manpower invested into this conflict is on an unprecedented scale (for the Rontan). It’s a stalemate that does not appear to be broken quite yet, but Attuse clearly has the technological advantage and continued superiority on sea and air, access to more needed resources, food and supplies. The Ganvius Nation has sent ambassadors by now in order to negotiate with the combatants to bring a peaceful solution of the world, and the Rontan Coalition, to warn them of the dangers that are out there in the galaxy right now, to warn them of the one war. The Great War.

The Grand Polish Republic

A grand archive is being set up and begins to store the sheer endless amounts of data and information accessible from the Allied Nations. However, the people assigned to this might require funding from the state in order to successfully and more quickly proceed with the further expansion of this archive. It might even become a copy of what the Protorians have on Proteum Davun.

United Baltic Confederacy

The Western Galactic Barrier it’s being called. With engineers and scientists and generals from allied nations all over working on it, just behind the frontlines against the Ar’gakari, a network of the most deadly and well fortified solar systems is being erected. High-capacity detection in every system to observe every move of the enemy, resupply stations, battle fortresses glaring with guns and turrets and so forth. But to be fully operational the way it’s intended it requires more men. More resources. And much more time.

Hephaestus Industries

The Zyrka in said area of space do not really fall for Hephaestus’ bait. Remaining mostly isolationist, they appear to focus on rebuilding a functional Zyrka society, with the millions of refugees that have flooded in from the North.

Trade Federation

An astounding breakthrough is being made in regards to all research projects. A dire discovery. ((Skype))

Kyber Kore

With Kyber Kore’s affinity for research, they continue to do... exactly that. With the fresh data from all the Allied nations, new perspectives, opportunities, options thought impossible or dismissed are now being explored. And within the span of a year, results become visible. And the Allied Council is pleased, ready and willing to fund Kyber Kore more for additional research subjects they deem necessary. Antor himself approves of it, and inquires about Kyber Kore’s plans for the future. ((Skype))

Frontier Kolranate Affiliation

The Redon remains quiet about the FKA’s intentions, but he... lets them do as they wish. Naturally the Zyrka are bewildered by the sudden aggression of this particular group of Humans.

The Kolran himself is soon to be found of the rare alignment of Chaos, with seemingly boundless potential. Amongst the drafted men and women, about a quarter show psionic affinities, albeit in majority rather small.

United States Of Arcturus

Armed up, slow but devastatingly dangerous, the massive battle station is reminiscient of the Ar’gakari world ships. Perhaps it’s capable of standing toe to toe with one, although that still needs to be proven. What is more imminent for the USA is the third enemy in the East. The Incursion, for dire news are coming in.

-----

 Allied Nations & Events

The African Union, the Latin American Federation and New India have been evacuated, nine million humans brought to safety in other human territories. But this would not suffice, as billions of Krib, Cevelli, Alduu’uuraneans, Adaptaar, H’wong and Cynn are flooding south, straining the resources of every nation that is there. And they are not running from the Ar’gakari, they are running from the Drag’nix. Protorian, Saryn, Galaron, Backhatta and Tassaran fleets are stemming the tide of the Drag’nix as well as they can, to allow the unceasing massive withdrawal and flow of refugees. The Allied Council is distributing the refugees as they can.

The Keerim Imperium is breaking. The Keerim Empress has died, leaving three sons and a daughter behind, who are vying for the throne of the Imperium. The Ganvius are trying to negotiate as they can, to keep their Keerim allies focused on the fight against the Incursion which appears to have grown in strength and number, quite substantially.

Thadon Datrax remains at Lithrua, his condition unchanged. The Lithruan Empire continues to tirelessly defend each sector of space from Drag’nix, Incursion and Ar’gakari.

The First Archivar, Salraku Remvate returns from the dead, and calls an immediate emergency meeting with all galactic leaders on Proteum Davun. Those who can’t make it, are projected by holograph.

Word has it, that a Korosi invasion fleet is being prepared in Ursa Minor, to be sent to the Milky Way.

Frontier Kolranate Affiliation

Duke Markus Klinghoffer stood at the head of a dozen men and women. All human, they were the Psionic Academies top graduates. Markus himself had been holding onto an untapped power. One of chaos, and destruction. He and his hand picked twelve will form the high nobility of the planet. From them would orders be enacted, with the Duke as the sole leader on the planet. The growing Redon population was increasingly enlisted as Royal Guard. To ensure the Redon remained the head power, and to keep Markus safe. The twelve disciples will take quarters with him, in a growing palace.

The new city of Utopie has been steadily growing, and the population exploding. The predominant Human-Protorian population was regarded as the ethnic elite. Markus himself had Protorian blood, and was extremely Psionic. As the tiered and garden city grows, so does the palace and temple.

One, for the Duke and his disciples, the Temple, for the man in white. The Triple Crescent creed had essentially been confirmed in recent crusade events. Alongside the Han the Duke and all Psionics worshipped it. Knowing there was a protective force was a growing fact for the Kolranate. A growing schism in the church was apparent though. The dour and prickly Duke did not want to be associated with the Han’s Yimu and fanatic creed. Instead they saw the Man in the White Suit as the protector of all, not the Han’s champion.

*A Utopian fleet is deployed to the former Eadni capital. The advance probe from last year however sent back hurried reports. Though the Zyrka government had collapsed, the holdout here was still in tact. The Redon had given the Duke permission, but it rang sour with the Affiliation’s more democratic ideals. He sends assurance to the Zyrka Mining Collective the Utopian’s will not invade. Priorities had changed. The misunderstanding had been cleared, and he would not try to conquer them.

*Instead Utopie sends Freighters, and a defense force. With a prestigious amount of tonnage, the Utopian freighter fleet could ship a lot. For the year the Duke will lend the Zyrka his freighter fleet, and offer assistance. It will be a form of apology, and offer for increased business and defense.  They Duke ha also fought to defend the Zyrka in the Crusades. Utopie will build a Quantum Anchor Route, to solidify the planet’s sector defense. The Defense Fleet will ensure the vital freighters are kept safe.

Liam took a bite of his Knäckebröd as he watched the news in his office, refugees could be seen stepping off their shuttles and being greeted by hundreds of Redskap citizens and soldiers bringing them through processing at efficient speed and giving them clean clothes and an overabundance of food thanks to his previous campaign for agriculture funding. Spinning his chair around to look out his high rise window at the city below, teeming with life as usual he thought. “Prime minister!” a squeaking voice erupted behind Liam as he jumped in his chair rolling around to see Hugs, his department of defense minister.

“I’ll cut to the chase since our affairs minister isn’t here, you’ve been invited to speak with the revived Archivar.” Liam was immediately taken aback cocking his head at the large man before him. “What the hell do you mean?” The comment made Hugs shrug before he pulled out a datapad with information on it. “You have about five days before it starts so I suggest your quick about getting packed up, the cabinet can hold the fort down while your gone.”

The prime minister stood stretching his legs and fixing the yellow tie on his suit. “Set about preparing the shuttle, I expect I will be gone for quite a while. I will leave instructions with the rest of the cabinet, I want it followed to the letter considering our situation Hugs.”

Hugs nodded before grimacing, “Might I add our Elysian allies are now held up completely cut off-”. Liam cut the twink off, “I know quite well, I’ve included it in our list as for the Korosi I want them questioned though I doubt any of them know. Make sure we keep tabs on these people, it is imperative.”

At that the conversation ended as Hugs simply nodded taking back the data pad the Liam offered watching the PM leave the room with haste. The twink walked directly out the office into the vast hallway crowded with people rushing left and right coupled by guards quickly shifting the Korosi to speak with them. Chaos was gripping the nation given the concern of a southern invasion, something did that did not sit well with Hugs personally. Turning to his right he walked down the many corridors and halls of the Skyscraper before he made it to the elevators going directly down to the hangars.

The door opened and immediately the myriad of sounds filled the elevator as Hugs stepped into the vast space before him. Vessels of all shapes and sizes inhabited the bay, the presidential shuttle being prepped as Hugs came into view of it. Hundreds of men running about as they loaded in a new xylorite reactor and shield, the guards nearby conversing. A few men could be seen walking up the ship which Liam must have been apart of. “Hey! Mr. Johansson!” he called out to Liam who must have not heard him. Picking up his pace he rushed faster to speak with his prime minister one last time, he had forgotten to tell him one more thing.

Liam spun around as Hugs shouted once more, his expression obviously irritated that the man caught up, “What is it?” he barked. “Karl, Karl is on his way back…” Hugs exasperatedly told his Prime minister, “Our quantum’s labs are completely set up, should I set him to work?” An inaudible sigh came from Liam as a transport buzzed by the hangar. “Tell him to get to work immediately, we didn’t conscript him for nothing.”

Bastion Alpha

Unknown Installation, Valley Green

Nira stood in her quarters, having been deployed in the Protorian Navy for well over a year. She looked at a hologram. “Knight Captain June, glad to see you.” he bowed “A pleasure my Sovereign.”

“How has Gaia been going?” she asks “Eve and I along with the others are working day and night. Gaia’s prototype stage is being tested this year.” the AI would speak up “Knight Captain June has been assisting me in overseeing the first four thousand to be produced. They should be mature and ready to assignment by the end of the year.”

“Excellent, I have to go I have duties to tend too. Take care the both of you.” the feed would cut, June would sigh leaving the Comm Room. “June, your pulse is high. Is something wrong?”

“No Eve, let it go.” he felt a sudden stiffness from his suit “I’m not your Suit’s companion, June. I can keep you locked If I wanted.” his suit would release back under it’s normal controls, He grunted looking around to see if he was alone. “She gave you too much freedom.”

“I’m not all that different than you, June. I might not be your version of a living being but don’t think I’m simply here to be your assistant.”

“Fair enough Eve.” he sighed walking along “I’m just worried about all this.”

“Mrs. Usenko and I had a long talk about this entire operation, I support her completely.” he glanced out into the science wing. “I don’t recall her telling me that.”

sparth-nicolas-bouvier-engineroom-sparth

“That is because it was a private conversation, June.” she projects herself into his helmet visor. “You aren’t betraying any oath or loyalty you have for the Republic or for Nira.”

“We are here because of the dangers that the galaxy is in, to preserve whatever we can. This is to be the Hidden Bastion in the Milky Way should the other nations and humans fail.” June removed his helmet continuing his walk “But my issue is not with the mission, I feel like this is all for her to escape to if whatever else fails.”

“I would have thought you knew her better than that June, after as much time you two spent working together.” he enters his own personal room. “She won’t come here, this place wasn’t meant for her.” she would leave his suit projecting herself from his rooms personal projector.

“The Soldiers we breed here, the Bastion we create, the life we preserve here..”

“Are for her children.”

Four Tigers Holdings, Lmtd.

200px-02_C098_big.jpg         200px-02_C085_big.jpg

T’aigang, Xingzhou’s Capital City, transforms to avoid scans.

It had been three years since the company had gone dark internationally. Freighters were grounded as best they could, Xingzhou’s sprawling cities modified to retract into geo-sectors when the sector’s outer perimeters heard movement. Buildings were roofed with arrays meant to block heat signature checks and, when retracted, look like little more than strange geography to the alien eye.

In fact, the Board of Directors had been so wary that their production queues had been completely changed to reflect their current predicament – after acquiring the schematics to the Tithonus droid from an unusually charitable Hephaestus employee right before Xingzhou shut off its quantum communications, they immediately changed all production lines to build it – after renaming it the 臺周哪 四 “T’ai Zhou-na Si” (Fourth of Taizhou) droid, of course.

Actions [80 AP]

[70 AP] – 280,000 T’ai Zhou-na Si droids are built in TSMC factories, and immediately put to use. As most Xingzhou society has moved underground, they make it nearly permanent, posting hundreds of thousands of droids across the planet in menial labor jobs, coding them to run a rudimentary economy amongst themselves and funnel supplies into the hidden Four Tigers cities. Called “The best idea since steamed rice,” by many analysts, it is done to deceive evil alien empires into believing the planet is the lifeless remains of a once-average society.

[10 AP] – Converting buildings and putting up rudimentary scan-blocking arrays.

[0 AP] – Three light freighters leave the system, broadcasting a mass escape signal to the galaxy, as if a very small human fragment survived a crash and has made it offworld, attempting to flee south.

[If AP can be used from missed turns, 233 extra AP (77, 77, 79)]

-932,000 T’ai Zhou-na Si droids manufactured, to further contribute to the Board’s expert ruse.
