An Embargo

Fools of Arcturus,

We do not know what compels your leaders to lash out so blindly at their allies and friends, and we care little. We only know that such sudden withdrawal, coupled with your severing of communications, presents a threat not simply to the security of your region, but of ours as well. Such a course of action will not be taken lightly.

As such, we implore you to reassess your choices. A grave threat looms before us all, but we must face it united. Know that the Dominion views your silence primarily with disappointment, but we are committed to restoring order to the east.

To demonstrate our profound displeasure, from this point until otherwise stated no civilian Han ship will set sail for Arcturan space, nor will any civilian Arcturan be permitted in the port of Huizhou. It is our sincere hope that you recognize that the path you have chosen is an unwise one.

This embargo is ratified by the undersigned:

The newsroom buzzed with action. Reporters wearing out keyboards, editors insulting reporters, photographers being art critics, newscasters doing vocal exercises, and papers… everywhere…

Isabella sat across from a news anchorman who was neatly dressed in a suit and tie. “Alright, so you’ll just be asking the questions here on the list, right? Stuff about our plans with the galactic conflict and the royal birth of Pablo and Sonia’s twins, Aaron and Cristina, yeah?” She inquired.

“Oh, absolutely. Just some run of the mill questions about what’s happening in the capital.” Said the anchorman, whose smile covered any sign of the deceit like a true member of the media.

“Okay, we’re on in three, two, one, rolling!”

Isabella quickly straightened her posture and smiled towards her audience.

“Welcome to Mindesorra News! Today we have our very own Head Advisor, Isabella Abelló, visiting us to answer some questions we have prepared.

“Alright, let’s get the show on the road, Rafael!”

“Is it true that the government is involved in a conspiracy with the Darkul Regime?”

Isabella, retaining her forced smile, turned to the the anchorman with a look in her eyes that can only be described as pure enmity, and she responded, “Well, absolutely not. In fact, everything that we have done so far is to protect ourselves from their ever growing influence. What could possibly have made you so curious?”

“We have heard from reliable sources that special projects based on stealth operations have been undergone for years, and furthermore a single corvette for this sole purpose is being produced this very year.” He said, maintaining his devilishly handsome demeanor.

“Well, the project you are referring to is no secret at all, and I’m sure that your sources must have unintentionally missed the fact that it was initiated as a defensive tactic when we were suspicious of all outside forces. However, it has since developed to protect us from the known enemies of civilization.”

“I see, but the corvette. Who builds a single corvette? What use does it have? You must understand how suspicious this is.”

“I do, and I must say that it is also very suspicious that your ‘sources’ know about a merely planned addition to our navy that supposedly only exists in confidential government records.”

Rafael’s smile cracked when he heard this, a bead of sweat forming on his forehead. “Uhm, yes, well, they, uh, must have assumed that you would make another corvette to complete the production from last year.”

“Yes, they must have,” she said, narrowing her eyes and smile turning to smirk, “Well, I think that we have covered everything the public might be interested in, don’t you?”

“Yes, we… must have.”

“Alright! That’s a wrap!”

Isabella pulled Rafael aside, and whispered to him, “How did you know that? We have our system searched through and through, so there should be no moles.”

“W-well” He stammered, “Let’s just say I am quite good at… staying in the know.”

“I thought as much, you’re hired.”

“Wait, what?! You’re not going to arrest me?!”

“Oh no, I could never let such talent go to waste. Well, unless you do want to be detained for illegal espionage against the state.”

Rafael stayed silent, but shook his head.

“Good, and in that case,” she handed him a card, “Be here at 7 o'clock tomorrow, sharp.”

It was nearly four in the morning when Yimu got out of bed, exhausted but still unable to sleep. Careful not to disturb his wife, he padded to the living room, where a wide window looked out into the cold air above Xin Xi’an. More than half the Han in the galaxy lived here. Sometimes, Yimu wondered how they’d fare without him.

He sat in his customary armchair, and stared out into nothingness, too tired to focus on anything. Once again, the Daos had put the Dominion into dangerous territory. Once again, it was Yimu who bore the responsibility of guiding them through. Not Jie, who thought no more than his orders told him to. Not Xue, who remained caught up in his fanatic delusions. Certainly not the Dao Si, which did nothing but grandstand before foreign dignities, while pretending to chart policy. None of them had the slightest idea what it took to guard the nation against enemies on every side.

Enemies among aliens. Enemies among humans. Enemies within the Dominion. Enemies on Yuguo. Allies...rare. Friends rarer. Yimu sighed, and closed his eyes for a moment. When he did, visions came instead of sleep: what would happen if he failed?

The High Inspector shook his head, and got to his feet to jolt himself out of the stupor. It was obvious there would be no sleep tonight, so he set about making tea, while the kitchen console brought up reports from the night so far.

It was amazing how earth-shaking events became routine in his position. With a few taps of his fingers, he authorized the culling of a drug ring in Huizhou overstepping its boundaries. A report of a small Gakree uprising on Houshu merely made him yawn. A few reports did give him pause: the counteroffensive against the insurrection was finally beginning. Xue had organized an army, commandeered the new freighter, and set out for the xylorite-rich planet of Jianshan. It was sure to be a harsh fight, and Yimu fully expected his son would be there. He shuddered briefly and fingered the single coin he kept in his pocket, felt the symbol carved into it. It was such a tiny thing to be relying on.

The water reached near-boiling in seconds, and Yimu soon poured it over the leaves, breathing in the vapor. Xue would surely take back the planet, and when he did the Triple Crescent would gain even more support. Already his resources were informing him of significant growth in the underbelly of Xin Xi’an. This, too, was disconcerting: Yimu was supposed to deal with such problems before they began. He should have had the man killed when he had the chance. Perhaps he could at least take steps against his followers, while he was away. Find low-level offenses, blackmail them into selling out their comrades.

Yimu shook his head as he thought. As much as he hated to admit it, the Dominion needed Xue, at least for now. So long as his brother sat defiant a mere sector away, his soldier-fanatics were needed, or resolving the conflict would come at the cost of weakening the Han to external attack.

“A few more years,” he thought. He just needed to keep the balance of power for a few more years, and then he could move. It had been his job for decades of course, but still, the idea filled him with unease.

The High Inspector sat in his same chair and sipped his tea, waiting for morning.

Chapter II: Old Shadows

2150

Worlds clashing. Ideologies opposing. It has always been like that. Between people. Between countries. Between continents. Between worlds. The curse of the sentient beings as individuals, their freedom of thought and choice, their ambitions, their goals. True peace as a dream everyone strives for, but at what cost. Everyone to choose his own path to secure his own survival, the survival of his people, to the end of peace and prosperity. The path to it is covered in war and destruction. It has often looked as such. Causing chaos and war for the sake of chaos and war. The means to an end.

The Ar’gakari have been in the Milky Way for centuries. Peacefully colonizing, claiming unowned worlds. Meeting their agreements with those born here. Until they were cast out by others, the Darkul, who were not native to the Milky Way itself. The seeds they sowed so many years ago have come to fruition. But a slight is a slight. Whilst time may forget the original transgressor, revenge remains unforgotten.

And thus they have arrived in a galaxy in pure turmoil already, with billions in arms and nations fighting eachother for all the reasons there are. And they bring yet more fuel to the blaze that is covering the home of so many. Because war does not care where its fuel comes from. As long as it feasts upon it, all shall be well.

-----

The Erakat Caliphate

All the while, as the shipyard continues expansion (SL 4 now), the production capacities are near to burst for both shipyards as they do indeed manage to finish the entire planned fleet. Along with the massive amount of 25,000 new soldiers to man these ships, the Eadni’s strength is growing extensively and unexpectedly. War brings wealth to some it so seems. ((I have calculated 84 AP into Shipproduction, the excess into clones.))

The research projects, thanks to their proper funding progress without issue. But there has yet to be an announcement of success. Neither the ship development nor the Ribalite have seen any breakthroughs.

With long range communications, they manage to contact the Slavic Federation for these talks. They themselves to reply. ((Skype))

With the announcement of their presence something unexpected happens. Within two days, all Lone Star Arms office, outlets and trade posts are being forcibly shut down by either the governments of the respective nations, or suffer terror attacks, destroying them. All assets affiliated with them are frozen and blocked, with no chance to access them in any way.

Any Eadni attempt to contact is being ignored by both Backhatta Hive and Ymorian Unity Council. Only the Darkul remain in touch.

As the colony ship enters a system where a desert planet is waiting for them they immediately realize the world is covered in Itoron deposits, richer than the average mine one could say. Only issue is, that they are not the first ones to be there. A group of Ar’gakari vessels have shown up there and have landed on the world, clearly with the intent of establishing a base on the world. As the colony ship turns to withdraw it gets engaged on short notice by unknown enemy vessels, being destroyed within several seconds.

Asgard Republic (Kalronian occupied)

Despite all investments, the Asgard Republic falls under occupation very early this year. Any dissidents and resistance is pursued systematically and destroyed to the very root. And then, their lives are… to continue unchanged it seems?

((Any military assets are frozen. You lose all trade partners. Your forces are disarmed. You retain population, territory and other things.))

The Kalronian occupation is an odd thing. Only a month after they have established rule, they begin vast investments into the local industry on all worlds. (100 AP industry investments)

Republican Systems of Edonia

The ships are finished as intended, bolstering the GTC forces. The Kalronians show little activity regarding their Human neighbours, but they seem vigilant regardless.

With enough ships conducting the search, they soon find a world covered in savannah and steppes, with lighter forests around the temperate zones and vast oceans teeming with fish and life.

For those who stalk in the shadows are unseen.

Returning to the roots, they find out some old design flaws they begin to fix immediately. Nothing substantial or of effect, it should bring the project to conclusion.

Whilst communications are received by the Redon Imperium, the Ganvius Nation and the LC members, the entourage arrives in the Slavic Federation, ready to conduct diplomacy as needed.

Kingdom of Armathwaite/Silver Knight Corporation

Improvements all about. The new Quantum anchor soon bleeps in space, waiting to send ships rapidly across the galaxy.

A new project started, these new type of suits might prove beneficial to the defensive and offensive capabilities of the Kingdom.

Extensive stretches of farmland and farms themselves begin to cover the world, as government investments are at an all-time high. ((Please note the rules for agricultural bonuses.))

The request for negotiations falls on deaf ears with the Redon Imperium. With the war set on so early, they are unwilling to back down from their current position. In general, with conflict amongst eachother and the Redon Imperium being allied with the Darkul Regime, any attempts to form such a coalition seem futile and receive little interest.

Republic Star State of Kanata

At last the expansion of the shipyard concludes, a massive improvement in size and capacity over the previous one. (40/40 AP. SL 6 now.)

With a breakthrough they fix all issues and have finished the first dozen functional prototypes of the weapon. Given some minor fixes in some mechanical parts and they are done with the weapon as a whole.

Solar Ascendancy

The research projects continue without further ado, but there are no particular news regarding Horizon, Second Horizon. Expect for the mech, the project being concluded with astounding success in the prototype phase this past year, making it ready for production.

The ordered ship, assuming there are no qualms from Hephaestus, reaches the Solar Ascendancy unharmed and prepared for colonization. The purchase of the other ships from the Kingdom also goes without issue, as the borders of the nations between them are still open and not ravaged by war yet.

Given the simple mechanics of Xylorite warheads they are ready to produce them. Refined and highly concentrated Xylorite is dangerous.

They find a series of habitable worlds in their territories, but a dry and dusty desert world attracts most of the attention, as it shows to hold rich deposits of Xylorite, some ravines overflowing in crystal formations and such.

The Sanctum Regnum Melitae

Various stuff and various projects. Various.

The cruiser is not finished. They are too short on production capacity. (8 AP returned.) At least the ships built in the Maltese shipyard are done by the end of the year, ready to serve in combat and in the interest of their country.

((And there is so much stuff happening that it requires Skype to handle that on short notice. Way too many 0 AP actions, my friend.))

Thulean Republic (Redon Overlordship)

The Thulean dream is cut short, the shipyard requisitioned, their territories occupied. Thus begins yet another chapter in the Thulean struggle for peace and prosperity.

“Following will be enforced: The government of the Thulean Republic is reinstated. All military will disband, police forces are permitted with minor armament. A permanent Redon garrison will be present on all worlds. Any armament is forbidden. All technology will be seized for the time being, with all data stores locked away. Any production of tools of war or similar will be forbidden. The Shipyard will be put under Redon control. Any research for military technologies or technologies not of civilian nature are forbidden. Investments to the outside are forbidden. Anything else that may come up lies in the discretion of the Redon Imperium and they expect acceptance of potential changes or additional rules.”

((You retain population, your military vessels are mothballed, your troops disarmed. You retain your AP, but you lose all trade partners except for those permitted by the Redon Imperium.))

United States Of Arcturus

The targeting systems receive further updates, improving marginally by one to two percent on average in their performance.

The scientists and engineers quickly conclude an effective design for these Xylorite bombs, given with their high yield, capable of levelling vast areas within moments.

The Han Dominion

Secret.

More of the stone-skinned Kuilei reach the surface to explore this new world.

The Trade Federation

More business investments are always handy to have, no? Also Jeff Kaplan found his credit card again. (+1 AP this turn)

As the development continues, new tradeports are finished both east and west… to remain empty for this year, as there is little additional trade to gain with war raging everywhere around the Trade Federation.

The military investments go as planned, with ships and bombers and fighters ready for duty at any time.

At the same time, whilst an evil twin is brooding about its existence, a ruthless monkey steals all the bananas it can get. Oh my.

The Slavic Federation welcomes any envoys and ambassadors.

Frontier Colony Affiliation

That’s a lot of ships? Where are you building those? ((Skype for clarification.))

Hephaestus Enterprises

The Redon Imperium regrets to hear of the decision but accepts it regardless.

INDUSTREH.

All projects continue without further issue, but have little news to report.

The destroyers are completed, but you lack the capacity to build a colony ship on top of that, don’t you?

G.E.N.S

Infinity continues, yet there is no breakthrough to be seen. The project will just take a lot more time and effort.

On the other hand, the colony ship finishes and leaves its port, ready to claim another world for the GENS. That’s a good thing to have.

More soulless copies of people long dead are added to the constantly growing pool of inhabitants of the GENS territories. Not that they would make a lot of friends amongst the other races.

Andorra

Both projects progress well under the Andorran ingenuity. EVE is not complete yet, but the diffusal field technology is well advanced and ready for use by now.

A tradeport is finished to accept any excess traders coming in from the South, given that the North is blocked off by warfare. Nearby a single humble corvette leaves port, ready to serve.

The Kingdom of Unified Systems

The search efforts are quite fruitless, the KUS unable to find anything of value at this point in time, aside from the usual rich mineral deposits as they are quite common in the galaxy.

On the other hand, both the new colony ship and colony are built and established, a new foothold and a new opportunity for a new foothold for the Kingdom of Unified Systems.

Kyber Kore (Subject State of the Grand Alliance)

Merely one of the frigates finishes in the small shipyard, given the lack of production capacities. The remaining funds are returned. (Regained 4 AP. You lack the production capacity from what I can tell.)

At least the industry expands as planned, without further issues.

There are some interesting concepts on the table here, but they require deep research and study. The scientists state that they have high hopes for the future regardless.

-----

Events

Fighting North and South is excessively brutal, casualties of war rising into the millions. Nobody is backing down, everyone is intent to continue their gruesome battles.

To the general surprise, neither the LC nor Keerim engage in any combat and continue to stare each other down.

The Slavic Federation and Tassaran Republic announce an alliance, with negotiations taking place with the Confederation of Xaplonius for that matter.

The guests of the Trade Federation and Eadni at the Protorian Council are returned home well-fed and properly clothed.

The war between the Protorian Alliance and the Redons is bloody, with no clear victors as of yet.

The Kalronians are winning more on the other hand as they have retaken all their former territory and subjugated more than one nation per say

.

Up north, the Darkul and Zaxx are grinding down the Ka'cezh, steadily, with them losing system after system.

Early on this year news go around that the Ar'gakari are back. They arrive at multiple points in the galaxy and appear by no means willing to negotiate. Reports indicate that they have destroyed any envoy ships, scouts or civilian ships that have crossed their path, lonely at that, but still. From various “sources” it is claimed that there are about 10,000 to 100,000 Ar’gakari vessels all over the Milky Way in a multitude of fleets.

The Replicants remain idle and silent, nobody truly knows their intentions.

Republican Systems of Edonia

General Activity:

A SLAM rifle had become more of rarity in the Edonian army as the relations with LSAA and Eadn have fallen flat. Ross was one of the lucky twenty thousand to still own one of the deadly rifles, the rest had disruptors graciously donated to them by the Ascendancy.  Edonian regulars had been fighting on the Kalronian front for a year and to the surprise of high command, the men did remarkably well. Despite these welcome reports, a couple thousand more men would be sent out to join their brothers currently fighting. The newly minted armor would also be sent to better equip the regulars.

Edonian naval supremacy has been growing steadily since 2148, this year sees the trend continued. The Praeses places multiple orders in the shipyard, thousands of young recruits being placed aboard the ships made ready for war. The new training and officers are eager to receive their first test in combat, the homefront was prepared.

The arrival of Imperial troops turned refugee was unexpected to the populace of earth like Aldeban but regardless accepted them with open arms. They were treated like brothers and sisters many of them invited to sleep in the homes of the citizens. Their designated colony ship arrived this year allowing them to settle their own world, the Edonian military freighter would supply them until they become self sufficient.

================

The fireworks in orbit could easily be seen from the ground forces down below, Ganvius and Edonian troops running along a latticework of trenches and buildings preparing for the inevitable landing. An Edonian battalion apart of first Division had been deployed to defend a Ganvius frontier world. The time would come soon when the Kalronian ships in orbit would begin to deploy a task force to face them.

“Get the **** on the battlements!” An Edonian captain yelled as he stood aiming out into the open ground from the trench. With explosions racking the landscape Ross took his disruptor and equipped his helmet looking for his squad.

Seven Ganvius soldiers ran past him, one of them directed him to the east to which Ross spotted his squad arranged along the trench prepared. It took him five minutes to jog through the mess of Ganvius and Edonian men preparing for the assault. “Ross your by me.” The sergeant waved him down. Stepping up on a wooden box he peeked over into the open field below their hill.

When he looked to the sky, thousands of dots splotched the sky getting larger as they closed in on the surface. “They’re going to be landing on the embankment beyond the hill, expect heavy fire from orbit and infantry support weapons.” The sky suddenly was lit with many energy beams coming from the Ganvius air defences. Dropships were dropping Kalronian troops off behind the hills off in the distance.

Ross aimed down his disruptor rifles sight, few thoughts of home were going through his mind before the first shots were fired. The Kalronians began to open fire from the hills, the Ganvian-Edonian troops in turn lit up their hill’s with bullets and energy fire.  Ross fired at any black dot in the distance, some dropped but he couldn’t tell if they were getting into cover or dead.

Suddenly one of the men to the right of Ross took a phasic beam to the chest knocking him back to the ground. The man didn’t move, his helmet flew off and his eyes were cold looking to the sky. Ross returned his attention back to the battlefield, the Kalronians were attempting to push forward into the killzone. Ganvian soldiers were running through the trenches at increased rates filling up the gaps caused by casualties. A Ganvian soldier filled up the hole of the dead soldier greeting his human allies, “Hello little friends, enjoying the show?”

Nodding at the Ganvian’s comment, Ross continued pouring down disruptor fire onto the Kalronians. The fighting was beginning to lull as the Kalronians were beginning to pull from the combat zone, reports began to pour through the lines that their fleet in orbit was almost finished. An Edonian lieutenant stood once he was told waving to get the attention of his platoon.

The lieutenant’s voice could only be heard by the surrounding Edonian’s who stood to follow him. Ross saw about two hundred human infantry rushing across the field over the Kalronian bodies, he watched from his position as they went over the opposing hill. Weapons fire could be heard but shortly after a few Kalronian dropships left and Edonian soldiers although less then before came over the hill victoriously cheering.

Solar Ascendancy

Founded 2143

Onwards Mech Tutorial 101

Jensen sat still inside the Ascendancy’s newest technological advancement. A Prototype Paladin Mech. Itoron Steel Plating, Miniature Xylorite Core, Dual Phased Shields, LAS, Shoulder Mounted Missile Pods, and a Laser Cannon ‘Rifle’.

A man’s voice came over the radio

Alright Jensen..take it slow and let's ease her into it. Start her up.

Jensen sighed “Recognize Pilot Authentication, Juliet Zero Zero One.

The main screen came online “ID Recognized...Core Online...Hud Online..” as the machine went through it’s startup the lights and monitor came to life “Life Support Online...Shields Online.

Alright Jensen, move her out of the hangar.

Standing fully on it’s two legs the Mech took a few slow cautious steps forward, then again and again before it moves steadily and properly out of the hangar into the wind filled conditions outside. Swiveling it’s head Jensen took a look around the hangar going through the various visual options from Normal, Night-Vision, Thermal and UV. “She seems to work just fine Sir.

That’s great Corporal, but let's move on grab the Laser Cannon off the flatbed and let’s take her to the range.

It’s upper body twisted several degrees as his HUD located the mech’s primary method of attack, marching over the Mech reached out with it’s 3 crane claw like fingers grabbing the massive weapon.

Okay, good work. Now I’ve authorized weapons hot, we have some older Tank and Hunter Bot models out in the field and some older tanks. Light ‘em up!

Jensen turned the mech and moved to the edge of the concrete, the area marked where he was to stand. After acquiring it’s targets the Missile Pods on the shoulders fired a barrage into the field every missile finding and eliminating it’s mark. Raising the laser cannon Jensen open fired as it tore through metal, armor and bot alike. Jensen couldn’t help but laugh, it was quite exciting.

Last test Jensen.” his commanding officer called over the radio “Lower your weapon and stand still..

Jensen stood in a readied position as a Hunter Bot took a knee leveling a standard rocket launcher at the Mech, with a flash the missile fired directly at the chest of the mech, Jensen cursed raising the mechs arm instinctively as any human would to protect themselves. The Missile explodes into a show of light as it strikes the frontal shields of the mech.

Layer Lost…” the computer announced, Jensen relaxed in the pilot seat “What the hell!..you can’t have a pilot in a live fire exercise..Sir..

What’s the point of using it if you don’t trust the design Corporal, bring her back it.

"There's a Grgl in my Office?!" The NEW hit sitcom from Channel 555!

“Class” was rarely the first word someone would associate with Hephaestus Enterprises. Despite its wealth and success, Hephaestus remained committed to serving primarily regular people. They were always the biggest market, after all. Who didn’t love an affordable product anyway?

This disconnect from class is what made Steven Penrith’s office so strange in comparison to the rest of Hephaestus. The entirety of it was pure, unadulterated luxury. A polished, hardwood floor stretched from door to window was punctuated by neatly placed flowery rugs. Glass cases held artefacts of obscene worth, from Firstborn servitors to suits of medieval armour. A classic, red-brick fireplace crackled with dancing flames (though where the smoke went was anyone’s guess).  At the far end of the room was a heavy, mahogany desk that was framed exquisitely by an expansive window. A mere twenty years ago, all a person could see from that window was the blasted, rocky landscape of Hades. Now it was covered by habi-domes, factories, movie theatres, casinos, and any other service or industry that could turn a credit. The morass of business shifted like sand daily—no skyline was the same as the night before.

The serenity of the space was cut short, as the doors of a gilded elevator eased open, and two figures sauntered in. The first individual was CEO Steven Penrith, who had the gormless smile and glazed eyes of a man who was politely listening to a very boring person. The other was Wilfred Cooper, of Cooper & Sons Droid Foundries. Wilfred had invited himself up to Steven’s office, and Steven has humouring him—Cooper & Sons had recently absorbed and overtaken an Auroran automaton manufacturer, and had earned itself a place on the Hephaestus executive board as a result. Like all new arrivals to the Board, he had begun networking immediately.

“The way I see it Mr Penrith, the Corporation could use some heavier vehicles for its security forces! With wars being fought among every one of our trading partners, a few more diverse assets in our arsenal wouldn’t hurt, right?” Wilfred Cooper took a moment to wipe the sweat from his balding head. The nervous, wiry man always seemed to drip with it whenever he was excited. He also did it on every other occasion. “I-it just so h-happens that I have one! In the experimental stages, of course, but we have the designs! With only a little investment-“

Steven cut Wilfred off with a well-practiced jovial laugh. “Bring it to the Board then, Wilfred my old mate! We’ll have a chin-wag about the whole thing, yeah? We’ll talk later over lunch some time. Give you a ring in a week or two, maybe? Yeah great! See you then, pal!”

“B-but Mr Penrith you don’t know my nu-“

”I’ll see you later, Cooper!” Steven waved Cooper away, and the stuttering industrialist awkwardly walked back into the elevator with a morose expression.

Finally easing into his armchair, Steven sighed heavily. For nearly ten years he’d felt younger than ever, but now his body was starting to remember how old it was. It wasn’t 2108 anymore, that was for sure. He reached towards a drawer to retrieve a cigar, and was surprised to feel a large, warm, round shape in the place an empty space ought to be.
This struck him as highly unusual—that space was only ever occupied by his secretary/wife Sally, but she was on Aphrodite taking in the sun. And he couldn’t recall having any other mistresses. Steven, after all, was a virtuous man.

After a brief moment of thought, Steven looked down to the unusual object.

It was a Grgl.

It appeared to be wearing a tiny, Hephaestus-blue business suit that had been adapted to its physiology. It was silently standing with a data-pad covering its small face, and remaining perfectly still. Steven would have assumed it was a statue, if it didn’t occasionally shiver. Taking a moment to survey his office, he expected to see an employee nearby to explain why the Grgl was there. Aside from himself, the room was deserted. The situation was very perplexing.

Steven leaned down until his face was at the grgl’s height, and grunted. “Oi.”

The Grgl’s mandibles scrabbled briefly on the data-pad, and it let out a number of frightened chrips while it shivered.

Steven pushed onward. “What are you doing, mate?”

“I am attempting to mask my presence,” boomed a synthesised baritone. “I did not have enough time to hide.”

“Why are you hiding?” said Steven.

“I am feeling intimidated. You are intimidating. I am feeling very nervous.” The translator had a strange cadence, and structured sentences in an odd, fragmented manner. The Grgl beneath chirped nervously, as it peeked out from behind its pad.

“Good. I’m pretty bloody intimidating, if I do say so myself.” Steven leaned back in his chair. “Why the hell are you in my office?”

“I am currently your lead accountant.” The voice boomed, though it hardly matched the nervous, shuddering Grgl. “My name is Jimothy Sonjohn. I am here to discuss matters involving the dispensation of Corporate assets.”

Steven blinked in surprise. “Where’s Jim?”

“I am Jim. Jimothy Sonjohn.” Replied the Grgl.

“No no, Jim Bean, mate.”

“Mr Bean felt that he was overwhelmed by the current duties given to him. He has placed the accountancy department in my capable claws.” Jimothy seemed to perk up, with his chirps sounding cheery and light beneath his translator.

“Oh.” Steven stated flatly. “Alright, I s’pose. So ah, what do you need to talk to me about?”

Jimothy quickly skittered to the chair in front of the CEO’s vast desk, and tapped his mandibles across the surface of his data-pad.

“Item one on my list—Executive Woollard asks what he can do with the excess of itoron currently stockpiled on Woolongong, Grand Ares, and Bill.”

“Sell it,” stated Steven flatly, as he finally retrieves a cigar.

An ad appears around the southern galaxy. It appears to be a typical Hephaestus advertisement, but instead of a peppy young salesman, a fat, ugly, and watery-eyed man stands in front of a massive pile of rocks. You can see him visibly breathe in as a cheerful tune begins to jingle in the background.

“G’day! I’m Jason Woollard! And I have a problem!"

He gestures behind himself (with significant effort) and the camera zooms out suddenly to reveal an enormous pile of rocks.

“I’ve got so much itoron,
BUT I JUST DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT!!

Corporate heads have officially declared itoron (along with D3-Standard Microwave-Ovens and the Purgemaster Electric Toothbrush) to be a non-vital strategic resource, and I have

Prices aren’t just slashed, they’re QUANTUM-CALCULATEDLY SCORCHED IN TWAIN WITH A XYLORITE-POWERED SHELF-CLEAVER HEAVY LASER-DRILL!!!

A small plaque with the word PRICES?!?!?!” is appropriately sliced in half with a laser, with obnoxious explosion decals surrounding it.

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?! HELL IF I KNOW, BUT IT’S SO DAMN CHEAP WHO CARES WHAT I SAY?!!

A number of laughing, scantily-clad babes of varying species and sexes immediately start clambering onto the massive pile and rub themselves sensually with the minerals.

YOU WANT RAW ITORON?!
COME AND GET IT, YOU BLOODY RIPPER! YOU WANT IT SMELTED?! AW MATE, WE HAVE SO MUCH OF THAT YOU COULD FEED A STARVING PLANET ON IT FOR A YEAR!!

ARE THESE ROCK-HORNY BABES  BEHIND ME EVEN ATTRACTIVE?! I HAVE NO IDEA, BECAUSE I’VE BEEN STRUCK BLIND BY THE DAZZLING ARRAY OF DEALS AVAILABLE!!

Jason immediately begins packing his coat full of Itoron bars and rocks, covering himself in dust, but earning exaggerated, sultry looks from the babes behind him.

-With the loss of the Thulean shipyard, the Corporation recognised the need to return to “old friends” for cost-effective warship construction. They would not be left wanting when a battle was upon them. (-24AP sent to Han Dominion for four light cruisers)

-The Solar Ascendancy sends resources to Hephaestus in order to construct their Paladin Mechs, with which the Corporation complies (once equitable payment is received). (-5AP)

Resources are allocated in order to judge the industrial output of Hephaestus Enterprises. (-11AP towards the construction of Tithonus II combat droids)

-Due to administration failures in the previous year, an order for a colony ship was totally forgotten. In lieu of this, the Hades shipyard immediately begins construction in order to avoid total consumer lethargy. (-3AP for colony ship)

-The advertising campaign for itoron plays in every friendly nation of the Southern galaxy. Though the ones featuring Jason Woollard are mercifully few, they all stress that there is 2400 tonnes of itoron up for grabs, and that prices are very negotiable.  (-10AP for adverts.)

-200 tonnes of itoron are shipped to the Edonians. Why? Uh... (-0AP)

-Combat exercises and war-games are held in Corporate space. The fleet is needed in tip-top form in case of any hungry predator looking for an easy target. The Corporation releases a statement to surrounding nations before the exercises expressing that the manoeuvres are not intended as aggression or grand-standing. (-0AP)

“This war is just terrible!” Exclaimed Prince José.

“What do you mean? We haven’t shot a single bullet yet, nor have we been shot at.” Responded Pablo.

“Well, it’s bad enough that people are dying by the thousands out there, but it even has significant effects on us! We have lost FIVE trade partners. We can no longer reach the Cevelli Pact due the the Darkul Conflict, the Imperial Republic, Asgard, and Thulean Republic have their trade blocked by military regimes, and L.S.A.A. decided to spontaneously dissipate!” He said, clearly distressed as he waved his arms in the air and spoke himself slightly out of breath.

Pablo retorted, with a mocking tone, “Oh wow! I never noticed! I think this is the first time I’ve ever heard about it. But wait a second, NO IT’S NOT. I’m not living under a rock, so I know what’s going on. I just think we’ve been pretty blessed to be spared as much as we have been.”

“Well, yeah, but I’m still worried. There are wolves crouched on our doorstep, and all it is going to take is one fell move and we could have the same fate as those other human nations.”

“Is that all? Are you sure nothing else is bothering you? Being concerned like this is very out of character for you.”

José sighed, “Well, you’re right. As I’ve gotten older, I have begun to worry about my legacy. What have I done that will be so memorable for the people?”

“Well, you are the first of your line of co-princes to lead our people into space.”

“No, but you get all the spot-light for that achievement. I wasn’t chosen from the clergy until a little after we arrived on Benevolencia.”

“I suppose that’s true, but you have been fundamental in decision making ever after you received your position.

“Well, you’re right,” José leaned back in his chair, “And now that I think about it, we will all be forgotten when given enough time, so there is really no reason to worry about how I will be remembered. As leaders, it is better for our people to grow healthy and safe rather than them worship us, and we don’t deserve that kind of adoration anyway. Only God does.

“I couldn’t have said it better myself.” Pablo stood up and stretched his arms out, “Now, how about we get lunch, eh?”

“Yeah, I’m feeling like having a nice sandwich, how about you?”

“Nah, I’m gonna have a big plate of spaghetti while Sonia can’t stop me.”

The Trade Federation

9v5lRx1.png

Tony Blaze III stared out of his towering bay windows, and out into the city beyond. Or below, perhaps. Indeed, the Central Administrative Complex had lost none of its size, only its grandeur. Even then, the gigantic building still shone in the rising sun like a mountain crafted of jewels, and glimmering little shuttles shot from within its belly and out into the streets that flowed from its great gates likes the veins of the city itself. But it had lost something, a spirit that had once animated it like a great dragon sitting upon its riches.

The riches were gone, and with it, the dragon rested, hopeless and forlorn. Tony Blaze III leaned against the window and stared high up into the sky, his irregular breath rattling against the thick glass windows, as if trying to break free from the confines of his vast office. High above and below, clouds hung thick, like great patches of dread lingering upon the inhabitants of the once thriving trade world. They replaced the hordes of cargo ships and freighters that had once teemed through the sky like a million ants, furiously working towards the most profitable deal they could find.

Now only a few brave souls dared to cross through the wartorn South, or skip along the borders of the Darkul occupation zones. Even further beyond that, the plague of war had begun to spread its filthy hands across every nation in the galaxy, infecting them with the maddening lust for destruction and blood.

With a frustrated grunt, Tony slammed his arm against the window, the Kyber Kore alloys slamming into the thick glass with a solid thud. He turned away from the sight and looked into his office. It had devolved from the once clean, luxurious place had had made it upon its creation. The pleasures of the flesh had been stripped from him with the same explosion that had flayed half his body of its flesh. Drugs could now only subside the eternal pain that gnawed at his body, and women did nothing but turn his lust into frustrated anger.

He sat down in front of his desk and leaned back, staring at the screen. “Bring up GTC-2, profit expectations, year 2150,” he hissed, the mechanical components within his throat clicking most horrendously.

The VI complied, bringing up a series of charts, projections and reports. “Summarize,” he growled. A single chart remained, with an upward trend.

Somewhere up there, high in space, Nexus was once again taking shape, but Miranda had outstripped him. By a large margin. She had taken the loss of Nexus and like the vulture she was, capitalized upon it. GTC-1 was a dying colony. Where profit could not be made, a man of the Federation would not linger, and they now left in droves for the flourishing east, where only the minor threat of a Keerim attack could ever hope to endanger them.

All he could do was wait. Wait, for his new project to take off, wait for the Darkul resistance to crumble. Wait for luck to turn the tides once more. His father had disappeared in an explosion of scandals, and if Tony had to lose his spot, he would go down no differently…

Kyber Kore

The recent acceptance of becoming a Subject State of the Grand Alliance came as a relief to Johnny and the board. It gave them some breathing room and released the pressure from the Kalronians at their back.

However it wasn't without its drawbacks, Kyber Kore would be leaving the Dominion of Man. Declining any other offer to join a federation and they would be leaving the human lead coalition against the Axis.

Cybernetic research was at the top of Kyber Kore’s list of priorities. Kevin Thomas was a man who saw the vision that Johnny held for Cybernetics and donated a large chunk to help fund the university's construction. The new university would be located on the freshly established colony of Nova.

Activity

Armathwaite was in for a rough year with the advent of the Southern-Central Galactic War had begun, Armathwaite and its space had become the only truly safe spot in this part of the Galaxy. Armathwaite had declared full and complete neutrality in this conflict and refused to partake in the war for any side. It would be decreed by the Corporate Council and Crown that the defences of the Kingdom needed to be improved and the Royal Navy needed further expansion in both the heavy ships and more smaller ships to act as screens. Funding was pushed to the Navy much to the delight of Admiral McGraw who had been seeking more ships for the defence of Armathwaite and its interests. The Solar Ascendency is given resources to expand their shipyards and build Armathwaite’s first Heavy Cruiser.

The Silver Knight Corporation continues with its project of creating a new line of Mechs and upgrading existing technology associated with them. Continued funding of this project was considered paramount as it was considered part of the future of the Company and Armed Services of the Silver Knight Corporation. Outside of this, the Asgardian Republic were given shelter on Armathwaite with their own small settlement for them to settle until such a time their world can be reclaimed. Edward, the King of Armathwaite himself pledges that one day both the forces of the Kingdom of Armathwaite and the Asgard Republic would retake their worlds, even if it takes ten years, twenty years or even one hundred years.
