Soul Tree/Tree Lord Clarifications

Due to the fact that the Soul Tree lord is lacking in a few areas, this has been written to fill in some gaps and balance things a bit.

Sapling Limit

Spoiler

A gift allowed to be given for the survival of the Tree Lord should something occur to their tree, a druid trusted and worthy to be told of the Soul Tree’s location is guided there by the Tree Lord. When there, the druid in question is able to cut/remove a sapling from the tree and nurture it. Because the sapling holds a piece of the Tree Lord’s soul, the Tree Lord themselves find it impossible to remove such a gift themselves, as well not able to maintain more than one sapling at a time. While the sapling is in obession of a druid, it must be supplied with druidic energy to keep the piece of the soul maintained. Due to the nature and strain upon the soul with this gift, should another sapling be removed, the first sapling would wither and vanish. If the Soul Tree should perish or be destroyed, the soul of the Tree Lord is transferred to that sapling and has a limited amount of time to be planted as stated above.

Ungrowing a Soul Tree

Spoiler

A soul tree is capable of having the ungrowth ability performed upon it and reverted back into its sapling stage for a limited amount of time, where it must be properly taken care of by a druid. Two to three irl days (exceptions made for map changes) for the amount of time is allowed before the soul of the druid begins to weaken and wane to the point where eventually a risk for the soul to depart if not properly placed and nurtured within the ground.  Given that the soul of the druid is within the tree and combined as one, the tree lord must be notified and give their consent OOCly for the ungrowth ability to occur as well as able to be there RPing their tree’s reactions. One cannot forcefully ungrow a soul tree as it goes against the very nature of communion and control with the Aspects.

Soul Tree’s Defense

Spoiler

With the merging of the descendant soul and that of the tree, the soul tree becomes that of a sentient being and able to react if one seeks to harm it. While indeed fire, axes, and all the usual means of destroying the tree is possible, the Soul Tree  is able to move to a certain extent in an attempt to ward off the attackers. A branch swinging down to strike away, a vine moving to entangle its victim, or perhaps roots popping up from the earth to grasp ahold of the assailant. Such things are possible with that of the Soul Tree. However, more extreme feats such as getting up and moving away strains the tree to much and not able to occur. When the Soul Tree is under attack, the Tree Lord begins to feel its stress given the direct connection to the tree and will want to rush over and defend it. However, if not in the immediate area, the Tree Lord would find it’s body begin to weaken and fatigue as the effort to defend itself requires complete focus and thus the body falters. The Tree Lord must be notified oocly and present, at least oocly, to RP their tree.

Unattunement

Spoiler

As the blessing becomes severed from that of the druid, so to does the binding that holds the  Soul Tree together. Because of the nature of the Tree Lord and the Soul Tree, attunement has a unique turn upon how to proceed. While normal means is indeed plausible, much like the same way if the Tree Lord decides to suicide and thus the soul connection is severed from the tree, the Soul Tree itself can have the unattunement ability preformed on it. Upon a soul tree being unattuned, the soul will be ejected from their tree due to the fact that without the connection to the Aspects, the blessing fades and thus the soul incapable of remaining inside the tree. When this occurs, their soul heads up to the soulstream and their current body perishes. This is due to the fact that the link between the soul and their body is severed, thus reverting to that of nature.. Saplings cut from the Soul Tree cannot be performed upon given it is only a piece of the Tree Lord’s soul, however if the Soul Tree is destroyed and the soul transferred to that sapling, it is able to occur. This entire process results in a PK for the player.

Red Lines

Spoiler
  • Only one sapling can be cut/removed from the soul tree at a time. If another is removed,
  • the first sapling will wither and die.
  • The Tree Lord cannot remove a sapling from their own tree.
  • Upon ungrowing a Soul Tree to a sapling, a limit of 2-3 days is allowed before the risk of the soul weakening or fading begins to occur. (exceptions with map changes)
  • Tree Lord must be notified/give OOC consent and be there RPing the tree for the ungrowth ability to be performed.
  • Unattunement upon a Tree Lord or the Soul Tree results in a PK.
  • A sapling cannot have the unattunement ability preformed on it unless the Soul Tree is either destroyed or it’s the Soul Tree itself reverted back to the sapling stage due to the ungrowth ability.
  • OOC signs must be placed near the soul tree for the person to be able to contact the Tree Lord.
  • Any interaction with the Soul Tree requires the Tree Lord to be notified and at least OOC present to RP their tree.
  • Only within the actual region of where the Soul Tree resides can the Tree Lord be allowed to go to it’s defense. Any further, the Tree Lord is weakened and fatigued, only allowing to be OOCly there to RP their tree.

Under review, expect a verdict in about a week.

One sapling seems a little draconian, but otherwise this is pretty alright!

I believe the previous limit that was in mind when this was discussed was 3.
