Enhancing the Curse: Frost Witch Addition

The curse that manifests in worthy Fjarriauga candidates is not simply one of hunger, it is one of revenge and malice.  Since their inception, Fjarriauga have taken their ancient anger out on those among the living, using their demises as fuel to continue living themselves.  Frost Mothers are unique in that their curses can produce new Witches, but they are not alone in their ability to imbue these curses.  Any Witch may touch the back of someone’s neck, and instill within them the torment that a newly created Witch faces, as an act of revenge on anyone who dare question their prowess.

Though this touch can be placed stealthily, the immediate effects cannot be hidden, and make it clear to the victim that they’ve been touched by a hand of frost.  Immediately, the victim will feel a frigid, frightening chill creep up their spine, before it manifests in the area that was touched.  This feeling will not go away until the mark fades, leaving the victim feeling as though their neck is constantly in contact with ice, and imbuing within them a constant feeling of dread and loneliness.  Furthermore, the victim will begin to feel a dull ache in their stomach, as if they’re hungering for something unknown.  This hunger will only be sated with the flesh of a man, however unlike Frost Witches, the victim will continue to be able to be nourished by regular food.  The hunger is merely an illusion, and if ignored will not starve the victim.  Unfortunately, though, the foods that the victim once loved will simply taste like ash, and eating too much will most certainly make the victim feel ill.  Once more, this is simply an illusion, and it is up to the writer’s disgression as to how their character would react.

The curse grows with time, before tapering off towards the end.  The first elven day of the curse will simply leave the victim feeling cold and isolated.  However, by the second elven day, an intense feeling of pain will fill the victim’s mouth, as if their teeth were being ripped out constantly.  This is akin to the pain that a fledgling witch feels as her teeth sharpen and elongate.  This pain will continue until the mark on their neck has faded, and their symptoms all diminish.  This curse works on both males and females.  However, as with the normal Frost Witch curse, this curse will not work on anyone with a deific connection, as their deity will protect them from letting the curse take hold.

Just as Witches who make eye contact with one another can sense each other’s curse, a Witch who makes eye contact with one of the cursed is able to tell that they’re under the effects of another Witch.  If this Witch feels pity for the victim, they may bring them to a Witch Mother, who are the only ones aside from holy mages capable of removing it early.  In exchange for having their curse removed, the victim is obligated to offer a favor to the Mother, just as all Witches are obligated to offer favors to someone who discovers them in disguise.  This favor functions just as a normal favor does:  The victim is bound to obey it, but it must be in reason.  These favors cannot be sexual or romantic in nature, cannot break any server rules, and cannot harm the victim or force the victim to harm any of their family.  Remember, removing the curse is completely optional.  All curses fade eventually, and if the victim is willing to withstand its effects until the mark fades, they are not obligated to accept the Mother’s offer.  This means that a victim may listen to the Mother’s offer and decline it, without any further obligations.

The duration of the curse depends on the prowess of the Witch who imbued it.  A fledgeling is unable to curse anyone, due to their own curse not having fully developed yet.  A regular Witch is able to curse someone for three elven days-- under half of the time that they themselves spent under the curse during their transition.  A Frost Mother, however, can imbue the curse for as long as a week, just as she does to create a new daughter.

Redlines

  • This curse, similarly to the curse to become a witch, can be removed by holy magic.  It can also be removed by any Frost Mother.

  • Illusions made by this curse are able to be masked with mental magics, as the curse itself functions as merely an elongated illusion.

  • Hunger created by this curse is non-lethal.  Though food is gross while the curse is active, it is still food, and will still keep your character alive.

  • As a Witch is unable to disobey favors, so too are the victims of the curse.  They physically cannot break the favor that the Witch Mother gives them, so long as they choose to accept her offer.

  • The curse’s effects are weak for the first day, then grow stronger each day, until it peaks in the middle (day 2 if cursed by a normal witch, day 4 if cursed by a Mother), then tapers off.

  • Witches must be taught how to manifest the curse for the first time.

  • Only one person may be cursed per each witch at any given time.  Once their curse wears off, the Witch may curse another.

The First Coven was born of scorn and malice, just as the first witch, and so their capacity for cruelty was unbound by their own woe. The nature of the curse did not bode well for the defense of the Fjarriauga, seldom did any shieldmaiden succumb to the curse and their nature begged them to make victims of men, who seldom make complacent victims. Ever the clever beast, Wyvurn had foreseen his creation’s folly, their wrath would lead them to desolation and his accord would be broken. The Solution to this problem was found in the similar cowardliness of men and women, cowardice bore greed and so Wyvurn instilled his witches with the ability to share their curse of everlasting stillness with any and all in exchange for their unending servitude, some poor few might act against the coven and be sentenced to this fate, or merely surrender to promises of everlasting life out of cowardice, unashamed of their sacrifice.

Jökulthrall [FEAT]

Jökulthrall, often referred to as Thrall, are those that choose to serve a Witch coven in exchange for immortality.  Whereas a Frost Witch is able to manipulate and create ice from thin air, Jökulthrall are simply able to withstand frigid temperatures. A Jökulthrall is created from a seed of cursed ice, implanted beneath the skin on the back of the neck.  A Frost Mother must then manipulate the cursed ice, causing it to meld with the tissue in the future Jökulthrall’s body, a slow process that is incredibly painful and must be in the presence of an altar to aid in the manipulation.  Once the cursed ice has sufficiently blended with the Jökulthrall, the Witch Mother must then place a curse over the wound, as if she was cursing a normal candidate.  Over the course of three elven days, the Jökulthrall goes through a chilling transformation.  The temperature of their body lowers significantly, their hair fades to a lighter color, and their skin takes on a grayish hue.  Most strikingly, their eyes turn bright blue, akin to that of a Witch in frost form, save for the usual glowing.  During this time, the Jökulthrall-to-be is extremely susceptible to hypothermia, as their body has not yet adjusted to the cursed ice woven throughout it.  It is crucial that the Jökulthrall candidate be kept warm, so that they do not succumb to the temperatures and die.

Once the transformation has been successful, the newly formed Jökulthrall’s body is resistant to frost, meaning that nearly no temperature is cold enough to harm them.  The only exception is the direct area around a T5 altar, which after some time may begin to take a toll on the Jökulthrall’s body in the form of numbness and shivering.  This resistance to frost makes Jökulthralls capable of wielding cursed ice weaponry with their bare skin and allows them to inhabit the same frigid areas as Frost Witches.  Their bodies seem to be frozen in time, the cursed ice woven through their skin having completely stopped the aging process.  Unless the gift is removed, Jökulthrall will remain the same aesthetically (unable to gain or lose muscle mass) for eternity.

In exchange for their newfound resistances and immortality, Jökulthrall are bound to protect the coven from which they were created.  While they aren’t mindless slaves, they are bound to obey the word of their Frost Mother creator, and cannot bring harm to any member of her coven, whether it be through physical altercations or spoken words.  Upon death, Jökulthrall reform at the nearest altar, much like the Frost Witches they serve.

If the Jökulthrall is found to no longer be needed, or somehow has become a liability to the coven, a Frost Mother may remove the cursed ice from their body and take the gift away.  Taking the cursed ice from the Jökulthrall’s body is even more painful than inserting it; the cursed ice often comes through the skin in shards, leaving scars where it emerged.  Once the cursed ice is removed from their body, they are no longer resistant to frost, but still retain their lighter features.  Furthermore, they are no longer bound to obey the witches, nor protect them.  However, it would be difficult mentally for a former Jökulthrall to bring harm to the coven they once served, and would require sufficient reasoning in order for any information to be disclosed from the time they spent as a Jökulthrall.

The conditions for becoming a Jökulthrall are similar to those of becoming a witch-- except Jökulthralls can be male or female, and need not be depressed.   This means that anyone with a deific connection is unable to become a Jökulthrall.

Redlines

  • These are not new creatures.  Though a character may be a Jökulthrall, they remain whatever race they were before, in the same way that someone who practices mysticism becomes a mystic and gains abilities, but does not change races.

  • Jökulthrall is a feat, meaning that it does not take up a magic slot.

  • Susceptible to holy magic in the same way that Frost Witches are, but the effects will not be as strong.

  • Weaker to heat due to the cursed ice throughout their body.  It will simply cause more pain, and if the Jökulthrall is trying to cast magic, it will more easily interrupt their concentration.

  • Colder to the touch than a normal being, but a bit warmer than a corpse.

  • If removed, the Jökulthrall will continue aging from when they were transformed.

  • They are only immune to the temperature of ice.  Being cut with ice or hit with ice will still harm a Jökulthrall.

  • Their skin, although cold, is not harder or more durable.

  • Jökulthrall are able to sense the Frost Mother who created them, even if she is disguised.  They cannot, however, tell who is a witch in disguise.

  • Jökulthralls can be made into Witches or Ivojurs later, so long as the Jökulthrall is female.  Their MA should then be denied, as it is no longer necessary.

  • If at any time the Jökulthrall wishes to gain a deific connection, they must first have the cursed ice removed from their body.

Love the concept and that you are allowing dudebros to play with the strange cold ladies.

I do question however, what is stopping a frost witch from running around and ravaging people's necks to imbue this curse to anyone? Perhaps a 2-emote minimum to establish the pseudo-curse, or a cap of affected folk.

Otherwise, gucci ****. Holy dude approves. +1

Surprisingly fine with this, tbh. Seems to just open up more avenues for rp, though I recommend that a debuff for the feat of J-whatever-the-hell is that people with the cursed ice in them are extra vulnerable to fire.
