Roman Empire

 

Seized Turkish Industry

Industry seized from Turkish companies has been kept by the government with mines, lumber camps, factories, etc. being available for private companies to rent. Employment would be managed by the government in co-operation with the company currently renting. The government would also take a 15% cut from all sales from the location and funding for it would be paid for by both the government and current renters with the renters only paying 30% of maintenance costs. Eastern Bloc Founded

The (Eastern) European Union or Eastern Bloc has been officially founded by the Roman and Bulgarian Empires. Entry has been opened to Romania, Yugoslavia, and the Soviet Union (Armenian, Georgian, Moldovan, Ukrainian, Byelorussian, and Russian SSRs specifically). Membership entails free-trade, easier access to foreign work permits, and co-operation of law-enforcement.

Eastern Bloc Proposals

The first proposal to the Eastern Bloc has come from Roman commissioner Nikolas Skandalidis to expand infrastructure in the rural regions of both the Roman Empire and Bulgaria.

The second came from Bulgarian commissioner Peter Delyan to pool small amounts of money towards a relief fund in the case of disasters or legal issues. [Mod]

With the integration of the Kurds, the existing soldiers deployed in the east work together to cut insurgents off from supply or communications. The Italian Hamlet Programme is adopted by the Roman forces and is employed throughout Anatolia. The Roman version or "Chorio Programma" sees the camps employing Turkish prisoners from either domestic crime or resistance fighting serving their prison sentences with male prisoners being required to be sterilised, and female prisoners being offered as (secondary) wives to soldiers. Macchi C.205 Purchase

An order for 150 Macchi C.205 fighter-bombers has been placed for £8 000 000 as well as a license to produce them and Italian assistance in production for £10 000 per plane.

Other

Mosques seized from Turkish control are granted to the church.

The Serbian priest is called a "threat to church stability and the faith" and is requested to be removed from the meetings.

Patriarch Benjamin I requests the invitation of the Oriental Orthodox Churches to the meetings and possibly joining their churches as well.

The Patriarchal Palace in the Phanari is rebuilt after the recent damage.

Diplomats are sent to the HRD and Bulgaria.

The New Day

Prime Minister Vallat stood before the new parliament, praising them and welcoming them to the beginning of a “New Age” for France. In order to squash communism once and for all, he calls for a vote for parliament to temporary dissolve itself and suspend the constitution while Martial Law is effect. “I am not Ceaser, I shall return power” states Vallat, explaining he shall restore power to the republic when the threat has passed. Internal Affairs

With the early failure of the French Film Industry, plans to create English Films are jettisoned while funds are doubled with a goal of creating a thousand films by the turn of the decade. (mod)

Half a Billion Francs are invested into the African colonies to improve upon its early infrastructure. “The Great Road” as Vallat calls it, it aims to be an intricate web of roadways and highways that will connect all of France’s African holdings (mod)

Peking Pact

France announces the Peking Pact, an agreement that grants France ¾ reduction in tariffs within China in exchange for modernizing the Chinese Air Force and slowly remarming their military with Napoleon I’s. (mod)

Research

GIAT Industries begin research into a new fighter aircraft, taking inspiration from the Royal Air Force and Luftwaffe. (mod)

The 2nd Council of Rome

On March 20th, Pope Pius XII and Benjamin I, Patriarch of Constantinople attended the second conference. Once again, both Benjamin and Pius will support and rouse the clergy to attend this council. This time, the Serbian Priest from the last meeting has been ejected under the request of Benjamin I. (Mod on effect schism).

 

Ministry of War

Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia are cleared of the remnants of the fascists and the fascists are either absorbed into the army or sent home. Many officers are given up to five years in prison. Top leaders are given life in prison in political prisons. Ethiopia begins the process of rebuilding, but more importantly, Christian missionary's are sent to convert Muslims. As well, the Ethiopian Oriental Orthodox Church is invited to Rome to discuss an additional mending of the schism. (Mod).

 

The Strategic Hamlet program continues its effects, turning every village and town into a fortress completely changing the sight of rural Anatolia. These next few months the Papal army will work towards clearing other sectors and seeing the effectiveness they have had on Central Anatolia. As well, the Counter-Terrorist Special Group will continue to try and find major enemy groups to destroy. (Mod for Army and Counter Terrorist Group).

 

The Papacy, at a meeting in Zagreb, requests that all nations increase the percentage of their national armies given to the Papacy to 20%. The Papal Army, with representatives from each nation controlling it, will take on more national responsibilities in return. The Papacy also recommends a general weakening of large-scale army formations, stating that the HRD must focus on "Naval, Colonial and Militant clearing operations instead of a general force to ward off neighbours." (Mod).

 

Two hundred thousand Italian Army and Navy personal head to Eritrea in an offensive posture. Several task forces and many transport ships are sent down near Saudia Arabia. (Mod).

 

Italy continues to buy German and Austrian weapons for it's military when needed. The Italian military also continues a constant stream of updates. Just this quarter, the Italian navy orders fifty new destroyers and scraps twenty-five older ones.

 

Foreign Relations

The United States of America is offered the chance to buy back their embassy grounds at a market rate after their seizure following illegal spy activities in Italy, this is widely seen as an olive branch being lifted back to the Papacy's American allies.

 

Saudia Arabia is sent a diplomatic offer to join the Kingdom of Italy as a colony. The current rulers will be allowed to keep much of their positions and power, but colonial officials will be sent to administer the new colony. Otherwise, the Papal Government makes overtures that they may be inclined to provide support for the internal enemies of House Al Saud and put the nation back in the wars it just came out of. (Mod).

 

The Papal Government makes large overtures to Switzerland and Austria, offering a one hundred year non-aggression pact and the demilitarization of borders. Additionally, work is started on the dismantling of tariffs and barriers to travel. Citizens of these two countries are given special permission to work in Italy with no barriers and are given a tax-free first year after moving. (Mod).

One hundred and fifty Macchi C.205's are sold to the Byzantine Government for eight million dollars. Additionally, Italy licenses and provides technical support to the Byzantines for ten thousand dollars per aircraft.

 

The Papacy, replacing Italy, reaffirms it's commitment to the LoN as a member with a veto. 

 

Administration

The Papal Government, with approval from the council, offers a tax shelter to foreign businesses and money willing to invest in the HRD. This tax shelter is aimed to make Italy extremely competitive in a world where government specialization and taxation is increasing globally. Specifically, this tax will aim to target American entrepreneurs and retired magnates who might see Italy as a low tax alternative to the extremely high American tax rate. (Mod).

 

The Papal Government begins surveying for Oil throughout Lybia after previous reports of oil found in water wells. The Expedition looks through places like Murzuk, Al Hamra and Sanir.  (Mod).

 

The Papal Government begins a project funded at ten million dollars a year to look for and discover creatures on the ocean floor. Academies in Italy rush for the grant money and all begin expeditions to catalogue and research new species. (Mod).

 

The Papal Government attempts to increase the quality of its pensioners and veterans through increased funding. With the massive birthrate throughout Italy with the banning of contraceptives and abortion, it is thought the government can pay this off in a few years when the average age decreases. (Mod).

 

One large push is made in Italy to improve consumer goods, hopefully, new products can be made instead of imported from abroad. (Mod).

 

The HRD attempts to strengthen itself, with approval from the council, banning further future independent diplomatic overtures without permission from the council beforehand, this applies to all states. As well, it is proposed that the HRD should have no internal barriers aside from security checks, and instead, citizens of either country should carry both a national passport and an HRD passport. (Mod).

 

The King of Italy is made Emperor of Ethiopia and his Royal Army settle down to rule.

The United States of America

 

The Fallout

Following President Long’s catastrophic speech he spoke again. He stated that after the recent events, he was forced to further withdraw internationally. He decided upon a complete overhaul of the CIA administration, intending to restructure and organize the CIA by the end of the year. He wished for them to be a respectful and fully functioning organization by 1944, and did not intend for any more mistakes like that of the rogue assassin. He continues on, promising a compromise with the courts in order to make the Veterans’ Act Constitutionally legal. He ends the speech by reminding the country of how much internal revenue has grown in the years following his election. He promises more reforms benefiting the common man and begins work on a bill in order to set the standards for the famous tax breaks into the law. President Long calls the act the “Every Man a King Act” and intends for it to be the first of many, providing American workers with guaranteed rights. [Mod Plz]

• President Long attempts to push a bill ensuring American citizens certain labor rights. A 40 hour work week would be mandatory, as well as three weeks vacation, and a new minimum wage. President Long asked certain accountants and the Secretary of Commerce to look at the bill before attempting to send it through Congress.
• President Long also is said to have stood by his accusation of the Republicans in their quest against the military. He vows to investigate the Bonus Massacre and Republican involvement in the Great Depression.

 

The Veterans’ Act

President Long sat down with the Supreme Court in order to amend the bill for it to be passable through Congress and declared legal. President Long allowed for doctors to opt out of the practice, but also ensured all doctors who participated would be ensured fair payment. He stated himself that he would be honored to serve a veteran in any way, and the press conference is ended with the promise of a veterans banquet should the bill pass, in which President Long would invite a number of veterans to the White House for a dinner in their honor and in order to celebrate the revised and passed bill. Breaking the Tax Breaks?

President Long requests the analyzation of tax breaks provided to the wealthy, and whether they are too excessive. Within the polls released about the foreign projects would be information regarding the tax breaks and it would ask the people if they believe the tax breaks are too much. President Long stated he will not allow the rich to get away unscathed, and that tax breaks are meant to increase their income, but not nearly to the unfair and absurd level, they had before. No action would be taken, but the analysts would be hired and asked to look into the policy, as well as public opinion towards it. [Mod Plz]

 

 

A Tour of Duty

Vice President MacArthur, Secretary Patton, and other officials close with President Long and the two military men are dispatched to bases throughout the United States. Officers throughout the countries are evaluated on a number of topics, including their political alignments. Soldiers are interviewed and asked to discuss the methods and personality of their officers. Secretary Patton spoke briefly on the goal of the mission, stating that he intended to overhaul the entirety of the army to make it more professional and in line with the goals of the country. Having potentially ideologically dangerous people in important positions already proved to be a bad idea in northern Germany, the same mistake would not be made in the army.

 

Long’s Agencies

The Minutemen, tasked with protecting the President, the people, and the rights of the workers, have been underfunded. He opens volunteering to a total of 10,000 soldiers. All soldiers are taken from elite branches of the military, as well as select members of the CIA and Secret Service. They would be outfitted with the M1 Carbine, as well as 500 M3 Medium Tanks. • The CIA would receive similar funding benefits, and would the structure and doctrine of the agency would be overhauled. The Director is tasked with creating new mission protocols and new training exercises to ensure the most elite, and in line agents. All future agents would be screened to ensure that enemy ties do not exist. This is prompted by the incident in north Germany. [Mod Plz]

Union of Soviet Socialist Republics - USSR

 

The first half of 1943

 

Internal:

 

The USSR begins development of a long-range bomber with four engines.  It is expected to have a 8,000km range, similar to other contemporary bombers with a hefty bomb capacity. (mod)

 

The USSR begins to put more resources into the Red Army reserve, giving additional training to the 4 million men that supplement the bulk force. In the event they are called up, it is expected that they should fare better in battle.(mod)

 

To increase the fighting effectiveness of the New Red Army, more durable helmets and body armor is put on the assembly lines.  It is hoped that every man can be outfitted with better survivability equipment by the end of 1943. (mod)

MacMillan would stand before his dispatch box, a sorrowful look on his face. Before clearing his voice looking to the Opposition benches as he claims

“ Members, colleagues. Political advisories and friends. I stand before you to announce my great dismay upon the manner in which this house wills their privilege putting this nation's security is the most important campaign this government has taken to fight back the threat of the red menace. Yet we have been blocked and stopped by the political chess of politics for votes and political punchlines. This government made a pledge to the British people to defend their liberty and freedom no matter the cost. The days of the Right Honourable Chamberlain's appeasement can no longer work as a model of peace. But through our might! As Britain has always done, lead the world in the darkest of times. This is why I hold this house responsible for this country failing to address the real issues that matter! Global security for generations to come. This is why with recent talks within the Cabinet we have decided to call for a General Election.

• Britain accepts the American trade deal with open arms saying a strong navy is necessary for a stable Empire.

• Defeated by the commons the toris take the pragmatic approach of rebuilding employment by expanding the shipyards to accommodate larger ships which could be built in the future

• They also invest heavily in the mining industry wanting to create hundreds of jobs in the coming years.

• In areas such as India and the more developed areas of the Empire heavy influence is placed on a growing industrial revolution to accommodate the growing British Economy which they all can share in by building factories to help the “British family continue to grow” the aim is to have Britain as the world's leading economy in a few short years.

 

Technology

• British aviation companies plan to est. affordable fast commercial airplanes for global usage in the next few years.

Saudi Arabia

 

King Abdulaziz  of Saudi Arabia considered the details pouring back to him. It was all so complex now. Back in the start of the century it had not been so. Forty men, that was what started the Kingdom. And praise be to Allah for that. They had stormed the walls, and founded a truly divine monarchy. And since all those years, Abdulaziz had ruled. His sons were many, and spread around. His immediate sons from wives also resided in court. But the oh, thirty or so left, were scattered. And it was these sons and their men that were reporting back.

 

Italian fleets were reported to be coming near their god given land. The specifics were unknown, just that it was a large undertaking. Threats had resumed to Abdulaziz from the Italian government. Threats to cause more violence, to dispel the peace he had worked so hard for. And they backed it with force. He rejected the terms, though never sent any form of response back to the Italians. He was too busy. Controlling the keys to power had long been his goal. And after the wars and unification with Hejaz, he was in his peak. 

 

He controlled the oil, and members of court who held power over the masses. They were quite rich, receiving vast wealth from the House of Saud. Through them and loyal members, Abdulaziz contained his stability. Bribes to his members of court would be inflaming but not truly right. Why would anyone want to go back into another war? The Italians beseeched them, yet still sent a large army to potentially invade. Why risk their new found wealth and power to just fight each other again. Thoughts like these were circulated throughout the kingdom.

 

However this matter would not be taken lightly, or matched with force. Abdulaziz and his loyalist forces held the new British guns, tanks, and airbase. Also a part of the United Defense League, they were not intimidated. Instead an official response is issued to the Italians. It stated to halt their aggressive mobilization. It was a clear provocation of war the Kingdom was happy to ignore. But they would not ignore the threat to their peace. They demand the Italians to come onto the negotiation table with UDL member states, and the United Kingdom. This belligerent act should not be supported by the global community. Especially with the House of Saud being a loyal UDL member.

 

Defensive precautions are taken. The oil fields are secured with the House of Saud's personal forces, and their British equipment. The militias and regular units of the Kingdom are beginning to mobilize. Coastal forces are mustered and equipped. Reinforcements of militia and regular army units will be dispatched with all haste to them. They would at least ensure any potential Italian coastal invasion would be met with force. The tanks and somewhat mobilized force of the Sauds are held in reserve, to respond to any potential break through. That, and keep the peace in the interior of the country.

Roman Civil War

Soldiers are re-deployed after the June Revolt to Thrace and Western Anatolia to push onto Constantinople. Kurdish militias with Greek assistance are set to re-take Pontus. A separate group is sent to Adalia. [Mod]

Motorisation of the Military

Steps are taken to improve the quality of the military by producing and further integrating vehicles into the military through use, training, and the development of new military-grade trucks and armoured vehicles. [Mod]

Religious Fervour

The Church has seized all Mosques in Turkish lands and has begun converting them to churches. In addition, the Church is granted small plots of land owned by the government or seized from Turks in the Kurdish regions to construct new churches. [Mod]

Development of Industry

New industrial regions are planned to be constructed in Greece proper to improve the urban development and domestically work more resources. This new industry would be state-owned while the goods produced would be for sale to corporations. New Chromite mines are also planned to be constructed in western Anatolia. [Mod]

Other

Diplomats are sent to the HRD, Germany, and the Soviet Union.

The harsh measures and brutality in the prison camps are cracked down on with prisoners being granted one hour of free time before curfew for recreation or further work.

The League of Nations proposed vote to impose sanctions on the Roman Empire is dismissed by the Emperor as a "Poor alternative to attempting to bring peace" and that "This is the nature of war, and if the League of Nations votes to support a force of terror, then they are no better than a force of terror."

The 3rd Council of Rome

On March 20th, Pope Pius XII and Benjamin I attend a third conference on the schism. This time it is more personal with close only certain representatives being sent from each branch of Christianity. This meeting focuses more on specifics on how a theoretical merger would work, like what calendar to use and when to celebrate Easter. (Mod on effect schism).

 

Ministry of War

With the fall of Constantinople, one hundred and fifty thousand soldiers are redeployed from Ethiopia and Europe to defend the Papacies Greek allies. An immediate offensive is declared towards the Constantinople pocket of Turks with one hundred thousand fresh troops. Meanwhile, Antalya is besieged by fifty thousand Yugoslav and Slovenians and Trebizond is attacked by existing anti-insurgent forces, quickly reassigned to more conventional fighting while still leaving some token soldiers to maintain the Hamlet program. Throughout this, some special directives are issued on behalf of the Greeks. All Turkish males in the Papal occupation zone are seized and sent to Greek forces, prisoners are executed for treason and European Turkey is cleared off all Turkish towns and villages. (Mod).

 

Forces in Ethiopia seize Somalia as the Germans gratefully gift the colony back to the Papacy. The colony is remerged with Ethiopia and Italian administration begins. Additionally, forces in Ethiopia, including the ones previously posturing towards the Saudi's, dramatically reduce to an appropriate peacetime level as most head back to Europe or Anatolia. The Ministry of War begins with the purchasing of small numbers of American weapons and vehicles. They are compared to both German, Austrian and Italian made weapons and vehicles. The Ministry looks for a final determination on their relative quality. (Mod).

 

Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Saudi's are sent an official apology by the Pope for the hasty ultimatum sent without prior consultation or enough justification. Two million dollars are sent to the Sultan himself as reparations for the diplomatic misstep.

 

The French Republic is offered fifty million dollars to help with the Schools in Africa Program in exchange for an extensive Catholic education to be added to the program. Additionally, the church offers to send its own missions to help set up and teach schools and otherwise help improve infrastructure. The offer even guarantees that the Church will help impress upon the children a French nationalistic education. 

 

Administration

Rome, once the pride and jewel of an empire and receiving massive growth through newfound government work and a booming economy is touched up to be more like the days of old. New plans are laid out on how future growth should be made for up to ten million new residents, the sewage, water and electrical systems are widened and expanded and new roads are cobbled. New wide main streets and wide side roads are planned out, planning for a large and mixed city with little to no future congestion. Train routes are built into this planning as well as parade grounds, gardens, etc. One Rome expands, it will truly be the model of a Papal Paradise. (Mod).

In the city itself, serious attempts are made to beautify the city. Historical sites are maintained with newfound vigour, the cities cleaning staff are increased to give a shined look the streets, new parks are made and maintained. Even in the ministries and Vatican, new glistening red carpets and Papal flags are laid out. The centrepiece of this new beautification is the new Circus Maximus. The new Circus Maximus is as large and beautiful as the previous, provides a box for the Pope, free concessions for the crowds and more. Four new chariot racing teams are subsidized to provide free entertainment to the masses. (Mod, especially for chariot racing, new favoured team).

 

The Yugoslavs are asked to come up with a plan to strengthen the union of the HRD. They are asked to submit such a plan to the council for a vote. (Mod).

Test Drilling continues in Lybia and survey are also made in other African colonies. (Mod).

Technology
The Ministry of War researches three things: New model of a destroyer, new submarine model, new torpedo boat. (I basically just want the historical Italian version).

VICTORY!

-In Germany, there is almost a festive mood in the midst of destruction. For roughly a month, there are celebrations all around Germany. Football matches, festivals, military parades and feasts are held in honor of the victory of the righteous greys. The Oktoberfest in the relatively untouched Munich is an especially joyful one. Rommel, who is almost treated as a living legend even makes an appearance at the well known German festival, himself being of Swabian origin. Photos of him happily drinking a glass of beer are heavily circulated throughout the German populace, and his character becomes exceptionally well liked among the German Populace, and even higher in the south.. The German Army lets roughly 2 million men weary from the war go home to celebrate and aid in the construction, as well as mourn for loved ones.

 

-After the celebrations slowly grind to a halt, reconstruction slowly begins. Most of the damage done to the German Industry has taken place in the Rhineland, and that is where a majority of the reconstruction efforts are centered out. Hundreds of thousands of men work long shifts to practically rebuild the city from the ground up as the Rhineland has been hit hard by the war. The roughly untouched industrial powerhouses of the war are ordered to produce only the essentials for German life, and the rest is to be sent to aide in the reconstruction of the Rhineland. Bombed and shelled factories are brought back, larger than before, to increase the industrial capacity of Germany and increase the economic output. Furthermore, they are often equipped with modern, more effective machinery to further increase the industrial capacity. Similar practices take place in Saxony, where the land was raped by communist forces. It is hoped that these policies can speed up the reconstruction process.(Mod)

-German Economists also begin tackling the ever growing issue of the deficit. Taxes are slightly increased to slowly decrease the debt. This, coupled with the fact that the German Army has sent home many young men to work, it is hoped these efforts will slowly and surely decrease the debt the German nation has accumulated by war. Tariffs are also slightly increased on luxury goods as von Kleist hopes to tackle the debt problem in the same way as the German war machine tackles a battle: quickly.(Mod)

 

-The rehabilitation and decommunisation of Germany also begins. Communist insignia, propaganda, and memorabilia is stripped and replaced with nationalist variants. A notable example of this is a massive red star which was placed at the top of the Reichstag, is blown up with dynamite in front of a cheering crowd. As a by product of this, many communists leaders and ex politicians are placed under arrest by the SS and face trial, and often times executions by hanging or firing squad. Including these people is Rene Kuzcenski, the economic minister and interim premier of red Germany in the final days of the war, whom is hanged in front of the Brandenburg Gate. -Von Kleist, himself being a centrist, declares that he will continue with the Centrist plan of hosting elections, as he sees this as a equal compromise for all parties. Elections are scheduled for the beginning of December. The National Conservatives, are the favorites of the election, and both Wilhelm and Rupprecht, already very close as a result of the war, have expressed their desire and willingness to collaborate to unite the largest and richest houses of Germany. The National Conservatives also receive massive support from the influx of nobles and the return of the aristocracy, which gives them a much needed edge over the other parties. Von Papen, the leader of the National Conservatives, has been regarded as a charming figure and has himself expressed that he is even willing to form a coalition with the centrists if the National Conservatives fail to secure a majority in the election and form their own government akin to that of the age before the Great War. He is liked all across Germany, in the south because of his religion, and in the northern Prussian Regions because of his ideological platform which often is similar to that of many Prussians. -The SS keeps a heightened presence in known areas of communist activity, especially in the south, and work alongside normal police to maintain order. The SS have displayed that they are a highly effective force to maintain order and put down minor communists rebellions in the eyes of the German Government led by Kliest.

 

-The foreign volunteers are given the choice to either remain in Germany where they are given full citizenship and offered a place in the military, or return to their home countries.(Mod

-Nobles, and political refugees who have left Germany at the start of the red regime are all invited back to Germany. Their properties are returned after the government has done all it could to restore any damage inflicted to it by the red regime, and those that have a noticeable or prominent military expertise are offered a role in the German Army. Thousands of nobles who were spread all about Europe, and to some extent the world, return to their ancestral homelands in Germany. (Mod)

 

-Churches, which were often the subject of vandalism  are rehabilitated by the Gray Government as a consequence of the religious fever that has spread throughout the country. The Government does not discriminate between denominations, and all are given the care and restoration their deserve to restore them to their previous beauty and art. The arts becomes valued in Kleist's heart, and he supports it in the reconstruction of the war torn areas, as he hopes to make the Rhineland cities an artistic marvel and be very much aesthetically pleasing. The overwhelming style used in the reconstruction becomes baroque or neoclassical, and even ordinary apartments are rebuilt in this style.(Mod)

Military Affairs

Generals revising maneuvers conducted by the Red Army in the Civil war.

-Kliest also orders a revision of German Military tactics to include new maneuvers learned of in the civil war. Kliest hopes that the civil war can serve as a learning curve for the German Army, and several improvements can be made to the German War doctrine because of it. The fields which Kliest mainly hopes to improve are: military intelligence, air combat, and defensive warfare as well. At the head of this a extremely experienced team built with highly decorated generals including: Manstein, Guderian, Rommel, von Rundstedt, Rupprecht, and others. It is hoped that they can also recruit some experienced officers to raise them up to the general rank. The latter is a highly supervised process which is overseen by outstanding generals including Kliest, as to not be too overly critical, nor allow mediocre or poor generals into the high command. The United States of America

 

The Campaign Trail
As the election cycle begins to come around again, President Long returns to the campaign trail and makes something clear. He will not be following Presidential tradition, and instead states that in order to ensure the passage of the remainder of Share Our Wealth, and to ensure that the United States enters a future unbridled by the likes of the Republicans who seek only to return the nation to what it was. He embarks on the campaign trail, alongside MacArthur and Patton. Vice President MacArthur is also rumored to be testifying with the Attorney General about an important case President Long has begun advocating for earlier in the year. The men would travel the United States campaigning and meeting with various local populations within cities and various states, though with a much heavier tone than four years before. President Long finalizes his speech with full disclosure on the officers who were fired during the investigation and states that each of them had ties to communism or fascism, and many to the presidency of Herbert Hoover. He states that these investigations will continue, and they will branch out. Communism had infested the United States under the noses of the hard-working citizens of the country, and fascism had begun to grow as well. He would stop communism at all ends, and with the permission of the people and Congress, would ensure that it had not infiltrated the very government built to protect them from such ideologies. Research and Development
Radar and sonar technology are worked upon to improve the design of the new ships ordered by President Long. The hope is to improve the capabilities of the navy in these fields. [Mod]

A Call for Change
President Long speaks in front of a crowd at the White House yet again, speaking angrily about a topic he is known to despise. The Republican Party would undo the great reforms to civil rights and would see the businesses returned to their former stature. President Long promises a referendum during the 1944 election, promising new tax breaks in return for accepting more Share Our Wealth reforms. Should the referendum succeed, President Long would see the bill passed into law. He reminds workers of the neglect and mishandling of the economy that led to the Great Depression over a decade before. He ends his speech with a reminder of the Bonus Massacre and states that after years of convincing his friend, Vice President MacArthur had agreed to testify on the incident, and based on the response of the Supreme Court there may be a trial. He ends his speech with his signature, “Every Man a King!” [Mod]

 

Monroe Doctrine
President Long returns from Sao Paolo after talks with the Brazilian Government and returns with promises of a healthy, beneficial relationship. Negotiations into an updated Monroe Doctrine are also underway, providing new measures for the protection of South America from foreign threats. 

 

The Long Night
On December 24th, 1943 the FBI and the Minutemen were dispatched to locations throughout the eastern portion of the country. The American Communist Party headquarters throughout the country were raided and searched. Evidence would be found of ties connecting them to Moscow, and the former German government from Berlin prior to the German Civil War. Party members would be arrested, and a warrant placed for the arrest of all high-ranking officials in the party, including the party leader Earl Browder. Following this event, President Long would announce documents linking a high number of public officials and private citizens who either had connections with Moscow or Berlin, the ACP, or the supposed Russian spies the ACP had minor data on. The CIA is quickly ordered to begin rooting out spies and investigating the legitimacy of this list. [Mod]

 

The Panamanian Navy
President Long signs an order for a newly upgraded navy, to be stationed in Panama. The upgraded navy would be built over the course of months. The initial order is for 30 destroyers and 15 light cruisers. President Long also orders the opening of new shipyards to speed the building of these ships. Share Our Wealth regulations are imposed upon all new shipyards. The naval base in Panama would begin to receive upgrades, with the expectation of a large number of ships being in port. The existing navy in Panama and secured after the annexation of the country would be outfitted with new technology and repaired, though it would likely remain a coastal navy. [Mod]

The Empire of Japan had remained silent, working on its projects and expanding its economy. The Navy was strong, the air force was strong and the army was standing ready for anything the Emperor commanded. Japan sought to make preparations for its moves in Asia.

 

Military Actions

 

The Empire of Japan would begin moving forces into and around various Islands in the Sea of Japan, East China Sea and South China Sea. Sending various teams to survey the area for natural resources. (Mod)

• Stability at last. MacMillan has finally won his majority and in a speech near the end of the counting MacMillan proclaims “Britain has chosen. And she will be heard! Britain shall once more be the centre of global excellence through a new plan for government now in this coming year!”

• Plans are laid down to introduce a policy known as the ‘MacMillan Initiative’ which is a project to increase British learning on STEM subjects with emphasis to increase engineers etc for the future of British industry.

• Looking to the massive economic growth in Italy Britain looks to continue to increase her GDP by offering lower taxes to foreign companies reducing the tariff on produce while ensuring british industry doesn't suffer.

• Designs are put in place for a new robust fighter which is to be named the T-1000 which is based of the Spitfire with greater firepower and speed.

 

International

 

• Britain urges the Japanese to take caution in their next steps, making it clear to them that another was in Asia will result in British Intervention.

• The Royal Navy is dispatched to the Pacific especially around Japan as a countermeasure to any attack on China. Britain would then make contact with the Chinese on the matter.

• The Development of the Atomic Bomb. Frontline new throughout the world. Britain calls for a global effort to ensure peace is maintained despite this breakthrough.

• Britain opens talks with the Iranians to discuss Iran moving into a British sphere of Influence for protection and access to wider global markets.

Recognizing the massive troop deployments by the Japanese and British in the East, Stalin orders the mobilization of the Eastern Forces, numbering around 500,000, as well as calling up the appropriate reserves.  T-34 tank divisions are stationed across eastern military bases. Troops are stationed on the border with China, and sentries are activated on the Eastern coast. Air command would be put on alert, with sorties being flown over the Transarmor to protect the USSR’s sovereignty.

 

“Any Japanese or British threats in the East towards the sovereignty of the USSR will be met with force,” declares Stalin.
