Roleplay:

The clouds parted enough to shine light onto the city of Senntisten, the jewel of the Kingdom of Renatus-Marna.

King Aurelius stood, staring intently at the crowd that had formed around a guillotine with eyes as intent as a gyrfalcon. He made it his business to observe justice be done, yet he still took no pleasure in the thought of exposing his people (or the children) to such violence. Ordinarily, the King could have been found with kingsguard hovering about him, but he was alone in his viewing.

He was in company of a small portion of his most trusted atop the battlements of the palace. Hundreds of people had gathered to watch the execution with the morbid curiosity that the living had of death, but there was something else…Aurelius could tell. The breeze carried their hushed whispers and rumors to his ears.

There was an excitement amongst the crowd to watch the death of an elven man who had threatened their safety and there was worry. A fear of the knowledge that this was not the end of their war hung over them and weighed them down. Soon, Aurelius figured that he would let them know that their concerns were not unfounded.

           Chop.

The crows in the trees scattered. The squeamish in the crowd recoiled and the religious bowed their heads.

Justice. But only the beginning, Aurelius thought.

“Father, you called for us,” Antonious said from behind him.

Aurelius turned to a pair of men who’d waited for his attention, Aran Talraen and his son: Antonious Horen. “The people know what is coming,” he said. “The question is if you two understand the same.”

It was Aran Talraen who responded first. Having been born in Adelburg, he was accustomed to being in the presence of a Horen, even one as lofty as Aurelius. “Haense must fall.”

Aurelius gave him a weary smile, the wrinkles around his eyes becoming more pronounced. He was met with only expectation of what his next words would be. Aran wanted something from him. He wanted a call for war. Aurelius felt this.

Responsibility pressed down on him, making him more aware of his aging frame. He answered aptly, “And so they will. Justice must be done.”

“Justice must be done,” they all repeated.

“But there is more to it then just that. While the Kingdom of Haense will fall in my lifetime…and this I promise,” he said to his son most importantly. “There are other demons beyond the Baltas River. Far to the east, from where the elf came from.”

“You speak of the Reds then. Norland,” Antonious said.

Aurelius nodded. “They too have taken action against us and our Church. They have slighted us. Like the trees they once worshipped, they too must be felled. They have attacked our people and even my own children and killed our priests and nuns. They have painted the cobbles of our own city with the blood of her people.”

“Haense lies between us and them,” Aran said. “They would attempt to stop us on our way if they are not dealt with first.”

“No.” Aurelius said, rising tall to his full height. “Let them too meet us in our march against Norland. And let their bodies return to the earth far from home. Let them send their boys and men to die in foreign pagan lands to defend those who would never do the same for them.”

Aran nodded, relaxing his hands behind his back. He seemed pleased by this statement. “A wise decision as always, your Majesty.”

“They must be taught that the way of nature, and of all things, is to bow to the dragon. Are we ready, Antonious?”

“We have the iron, food and resources to begin our march, father. They will never know what hit them.”

“Speak to our allies. Assure them that this will all be over soon. And help them prepare if need be. You’re both dismissed.”

Aran was the first to depart, leaving father and son alone.

“I will prepare the military, father,” Antonious said.

“You will do more than that, my son. You must prepare yourself more importantly. The people look up to you. They respect you for your strength and fear you for your firm hand. Trying times are ahead. A Horen never looks down so neither should you. No matter the circumstances.”

The King turned back to look upon the aftermath of the execution. From here, he saw the head of the high elf, a leader in the pathetic army that had formed against them. The crowds had dispersed and the birds had returned to their nests in peace and happiness.

A fitting allegory for what would come to Atlas after the Norlandic savages were dealt with. A smile played upon his lips in reaction to the poetry before him.

“A Dragon always gets its dues.”

TLDR for CB's:

-Several accounts of the attack upon leadership.

-Kidnapping leadership

-Aiding enemies.
