Introduction

Hey, you! Are you desperate to download mods onto Minecraft, but unsure where to start? Well, you've come to the right place! Modding your game can be a difficult task, especially if you're unsure where to begin. This easy-to-follow guide will include all the latest version mods that are currently compatible with LotC, and won't get you banned! They will range from aesthetic to functional, to provide you the best possible experience when roleplaying on the server. I will continue to update this Guide as Minecraft updates change, and as more LOTC-friendly mods arise. If you have any suggestions for this list, don't be afraid to contact me!

Keep in mind, most of the mods listed below aren't incredibly resource intensive apart from the ones stated otherwise. You should check if your computer is able to handle these before installing them, and backup any important files on your .minecraft save to prevent unwanted losses.

How to Find Your .minecraft File

You'll need to know where and how to find your .minecraft file. This will be your main library of all the mods you install, and those you wish to remove. The following directories should work for most users, though you can always search for more tutorials online if you're still unsure how to do it.

Windows 7 and 8
C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\

Windows Vista/XP
C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\

Mac OSX
~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/

How to Install Forge & Safety

Most mods will require forge to operate properly within Minecraft, which can be obtained from their official website. You should always, only download modded content from official trusted websites such as Planet Minecraft, Minecraft Mods, 9Minecraft & Minecraft CurseForge. Whenever you are experimenting with new mods, it is best protect yourself against viruses and other malware that is often found on shady websites with little reputation. Be smart!

1. To install Forge, click on the website provided above and download the recommended build for the Minecraft version you want.

Better Foliage (1.12.2)

Spoiler

Better Foliage (1.12.2)

Better Foliage is a Minecraft Mod that makes your Minecraft worlds more impressive than ever, creating realistic looking vegetation all around you. It is fully compatible with other aesthetic-like mods such as Optifine, Shaders and even resource packs. The mod is 100% cosmetic, and will only affect the player client-side, meaning other players will not see the same you do unless they also install the mod. The effects of Better Foliage have no impact on the server, and cannot be interacted with unless in singleplayer.

Shaders (1.12.2)

Spoiler

Shaders (1.12.2)

The Shaders mod can be an extremely intensive change to your Minecraft, both in adaption to how different it makes the game seem and how difficult it can be to run on low-end computers. Despite that, Shaders provides a greater image of realistic reflections, shadows and smooth movements to your game. You can explore the world and witness things like never before with this mod, given it adds more life to the game with its insane shading and lightning methods. There are simpler shader-packs provided for PCs with older graphics card, though most of the time, this mod requires alot of RAM and a good PC to run properly.

You can download Shaders (1.12.2) here.

1. Given the complexity of this mod, I have attached a Youtube video I used to help me install Shaders, as a visual tutorial.
