Hanrahan 2884 Share Posted August 15, 2018 (edited) LA BELLE EPOQUE 1885 La Belle Epoque is an FRP set in 1885, in the peak of the European domination, splendor and power. The world, although settled, is in constant flux between the great Empires of the world. New powers are rising, the regional United States, the German Empire, and possibly Japan. . . Invention and Artistry fill the halls of European civilization, the automobile and motorcycle are invented by Karl Benz, Louis Pasteur develops the Rabies Vaccine, Dr. Pepper is first released to the public, and the Statue of Liberty is erected in New York Harbor. Chester Nimitz and George Patton are born. The Indian National Congress gathers for the first time, the first wave of Prussian Jewish deportations occurs, the Berlin conference wraps up the precarious state of Africa, and the Northwest Rebellion in Canada rises to its climax. Victor Hugo, Ulysses S. Grant, George McClellan and Charles Gordon die. This setting is entirely vanilla at the start, there is no alternate history. You decide where this world goes. All Nations are free to be chosen, but Major powers will require a strong application. Majors are as follows; The British Empire The German Empire The French Empire The Russian Empire Qing China Austro-Hungarian Empire Japan The United States Map The map will be constantly updated with every turn, unless no territorial changes occur. Turns and Game Systems Turns will be 2 months long, unless specifically noted as a War Turn which will require an update to the original posting (Post the initial movement, then mod/opponent response, then your secondary movement.) Mod Posts will (God Willing) be weekly, most likely on Fridays or Weekend days. Technology will be ranked and put into national census data. War Rules Battle maps will be made by both players (Unless attacking an NPC), then submitted to the mod. From there, I'll calculate results based on Battle Maps + Descriptions of the movements and engagement plans. I suggest using Paint.net + Google Map screen-caps for battle maps. Will (TauFirewarrior) 2465 Share Posted August 15, 2018 Nation: Qing China Leader’s History (Research your Monarch!) : Guangxu Emperor, the Emperor is only 14 years of age and is currently under the regency of Empress Dowager Cixi. The Court Eunuchs currently attempt to sway the boy Emperor however he is becoming quick on the uptake and is beginning to take audiences by himself without the regent or the traditional court factions knowledge or authority. It is likely that the Guangxu Emperor wishes to exert his Imperial authority and it may lead to conflicts within Court. Nation’s Recent History: Suffering badly from the two Opium Wars the world had shown the Qing Dynasty and Chinese Civilization at large that it was lagging behind. Its island neighbor under the reigns of Meiji was rapidly modernizing while China remained largely agrarian and backwards. It would be the time for cultural and technological reform to ensure that thousands of years of Dynastic Rule in China would continue. Praetor 1548 Share Posted August 15, 2018 Nation: Japan Leader’s History (Research your Monarch!) : In our times, he took on the title of Meiji the Great after his death. In 1885, he is The Emperor. A man endowed with a magnificent beard and wise eyes, he leads his nation through a time of great change. A time of gunpowder, capitalism and renewal. A time where Japan pulls up a seat to the table of great nations. Often called a bully in later tales, he was brought up in the times of Unequal Treaties, and this no doubt lingered in his mind for years to come, in his times of rule. Married to Ichijo Haruko and living, as his name implies, in an era of Enlightened Rule (Meiji), he faced many changes, shifts and the disappearance of the Shogun as supreme authority. Throughout all this, he has religiously attended cabinet meetings and other governmental functions, every day, even when he kept silent, he watched over his proud nation, proudly. Nation’s Recent History: The Meiji restoration changed everything. As did Matthew Perry's Black Ships, who broke Japan's isolationism and opened it to trade from around the world, even if it was cripplingly in the Westerners favor. A fact that persisted for quite a while. After him, the restoration brough the end of the Shogunate, the Boshin wars, and finally, a centralized state. Even now, in the year 1885, there are serious talks of establishing a Prime Minister, much like in the west. It is almost certain, by now. Japan modernizes, it changes, and looses many of its Feudal roots. But many still linger... Discord: Król Bolesław I Chrobry#9839

. 6 Share Posted August 16, 2018 (edited) Country: Persia/Iran Leader: Naser al-Din Shah Qajar assumed the throne in 1848 after the death of his father, Mohammad Shah Qajar. Naser al-Din had brought about many political, economic, and military reforms such as creating the Persian Cossacks which were armed by Russia, centralising the country and empower the government. Naser al-Din was also the first Persian emperor to visit a European nation in centuries, and was knighted by Queen-Empress Victoria of the U.K. into the Order of the Garter in 1873. Recent History: Iran had been in a state of decline since the early 1800's, but as Qajari rule settled in, the empire had been steadily growing back to its past state as a powerful country in the Middle East with British and Russian involvement in the country bringing it closer and closer to becoming a modern state. seannie 6851 Share Posted August 16, 2018 Nation: The Dominion of Canada Leader’s History (Research your Monarch!): Sir John A. MacDonald Originally born in abroad, like many other Canadians Sir MacDonald was of Scottish origins. His primary career prior to his engagement in politics was that of Law. Serving in the city Kingston as a Lawyer, MacDonald was involved in many high-end cases that served to propel him to influential status among the politicians of the fledgling Canadian Colonial Confederation. He was elected to Premier of Canada but found himself in trouble, for the Canadians had difficulties establishing a permanent form of governance for the colonies; though the troubles would be stopped once he worked together with a man known as George Brown. With both major parties (Liberal and Conservative) working in union as a Coalition, they federalized the colonies into a Confederation and through the British North America Act of 1867, the birth of Canada as a nation was completed. Now in 1885, Sir John MacDonald now faces new troubles with the Metis tribes of the Plains of Central Canada and their rebellious Louis Riel. Nation’s Recent History: Canada is a Colony-State of the British Empire. Numbering at 4.5 million citizens, the Canadian Government is only sufficient enough to moderately tame the cold and gigantic terrain and tap into the vast raw resources the wilderness holds, but with British and others immigrating to the Colony, the Country finds itself burgeoning with potential within the economic sector of resource exporting. Though not at is easy for the fledgling nation; its mistreatment of the ingenious population has stirred much discontent, such leading to the North-West Rebellion in what would come to be known as the Provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta in central Canada. Under the leadership of Lous Riel, the Metis people have risen up against what they perceive to be oppressors of their existence and seek an equal status alongside the new White British Colonizers spreading into the western portion of Canada on-mass. The year is 1885, and the Federal Government of Canada is in the heat of conflict as the rebellion continues. Discord: seannie#666

SuperKeziak 8 Share Posted August 17, 2018 (edited) Country: FRENCH THIRD REPUBLIC Leader: JULES GREVY is the third President of the French Third Republic. He is the first true Republican leader of the Republic, known most prominently for his attempts at blocking the ascension of Napoleon III, he is a major figure in the Republican parties of France. As well as his obvious Republican leanings, Grevy has also served as Head of the Assembly and Chamber of Deputies. This leaves him as France's top politician and a man with a steady enough hand to lead his ship of state. So far Grevy has been known domestically for introducing free and secular education to France, as well as breaking up and selling France's crown jewels. In foreign policy, Grevy has pushed back against nationalistic revanchism and colonial expansion. Ultimately though, Grevy is most well known for his lax Presidential hand, vastly preferring a strong legislator. Recent History: HISTORY has recently treated France rather poorly. Defeated in the Franco-Prussian war, France finds itself economically recovered but weaker than it's German and British rivals. Having just recently dealt with an uprising in the form of the Paris Commune has not helped much either. But those issues are already fading into the background as France looks forward, domestically. Monarchist support in France has begun to die off and a Republican wave has struck the nation for the first time in several decades. Additionally, this is the age of modernization for the rural peasants of France: Standardised prices, department stores, investments, education, railroads and more. Another pressing domestic issue is the painfully slow separation of Church and State, which has caused a rift within France and with the Pope. This internal focus has led to a foreign policy generally dominated by a few key diplomats who are generally restrained. But still, General Anglophobia exists due to colonial and historical conflicts and at the same time, revanchism and worry towards the Germans is ever strong. France stands at a diplomatic crossroads, but for now, it looks inwards. Discord: PLEBIAN#7281 Edited August 17, 2018 by SuperKeziak
