What is raiding meant to be bring to the server? Irl raids could be used to take out a target, capture someone, gain supplies, or demoralize the populace and more often than not raids on LoTC are meant to accomplish those same things. Unlike irl though, a failed raid means launching another would be risky since resources that include life to gear are lost which are both valuable commodities, but with raids on LoTC neither of those factors really come into play. It seems like wars started over raiding do not even curb the raiding regardless of whether or not the the side that was being raided won the war or not. It seems like the the only two guaranteed ways of making sure raids stop happening are to either br the raiders or kill the same people enough times they get tired, both of which are tiresome processes that create more ooc tension than rp. So what exactly are raids meant to do irp with this considered?

What is the point of consistently posting the same post several times in several different forum threads when there are already two sizeable forum threads on the subject already?

What is this post meant to do? Why couldn't you have just added it to the other two, now three posts on raiding?

Raids do precisely what they're meant to. Get people fighting outside of full-scale invasion scenarios. It's, in general, incentive to have a standing military and guard force, even if it's just to deter a minor annoyance that comes once every few days.

And when raids are unprovoked or there is not diplomatic action to take? Do you just kill them till they pk the character or quit?

Raids are a necessity in nation-politics and allow a numerically stronger faction to impose its strength on another faction, thus establishing a relation of authority and prompting the weaker to offer concessions.

Mind, the current system is totally flawed and has no chance of catering for this, only creating strife and toxicity.

So they should serve for political reason, but are instead it is just a way of harassing players

Ideally, yes. Ideally, raids are merely regulations on PvP, and PvP is merely a replacement for the burden that'd be combat RP en-masse. But people tend to forget this. I think staff should walk back on this thread and re-consider what raids truly are if they want to address them.

You can't compare irl stuff to a mineman pretend game. However, for lotc, there can be times when people raid for a real gain. Whether it be to capture a government official, get resources, etc. While raids might not have a real "purpose" or focused goal, it's an essential part of the server even if people don't like it.
