Neu Munchen

The first thing that had been built was the Church.  Otto von Wittelsbach, the first Graf von Unbekannte demanded it, as leader of the army out of Bavaria.  None dared to question him, and none truly disagreed with him so it rather worked out well.

To say that they were a colony of Bavaria was not quite true- it would be much more accurate to say that they were a colony from Bavaria.  Bavaria was a landlocked nation, and in truth, they had only made it over to the New World thanks to stolen ships.

But now that they were over here, their path was clear.  To bring Catholicism to the new lands under the German culture.  There would be none who could oppose them. This they knew.  The Light of GOD borne by the warriors for the Vicar of the LORD... Were there any nobler than they?

AN EMPIRE REBORN:

Following the other kingdoms westwards, the Holy Roman Empire would land near the shores of the Gulf Coast. Here the HRE would revive its glorious empire. As soon as a settlement was erected, Emperor Charles would order his men to explore the new world, he would send 2 groups to colonize the land nearby. Colonists would be ordered to start the construction of farmlands and lodges Scouts would be sent out to the west and

East of the colony. With the completion of the port, the HRE could now begin to fish along the coast of the new colonial lands. It was time for the HRE to rise again, the New World was a land untamed, and rich with resources and opportunities. The HRE would seize the chance.

An age-old engraving of the famed Jewish Corsair and Admiral, Sinan Reis.

For over a century now, the Iberians had expelled the Sephardim. For a great while, revenge was taken at the hands of Great Jewish Pirates working on behalf of the Ottoman Empire. Men like Sinan Reis, local hero of the Jamaican Corsairs. However, Moshe Cohen had ultimately brought 2000 people to the New World for a greater act of vengeance: survival. With support coming in from global Jewish Communities, Ottoman allies, Dutch allies, and many merchanting enterprises, the Corsair's Council had great confidence in their ability to expand over their (rather quiet) island and establish a Jewish Republic there, safe from the ills of Europe and European rulers who perpetually abused them, as well as the harsh war-ridden lands of North Africa.

Though the people were desperate and low of morale due to the recent disease, the festive that was popular and well known back home was not to be missed in the New World. The Market was busy, as people went to collect their gifts for their loved ones, their children or their parents. Young and Old gathered together in their newly constructed homes, exchanging gifts to each other.

Iroquois scout meeting the Dutch sentries

As if Germans or Dutch refugees weren’t enough in this crazy New World, the Dutch found themselves to be watched, observed and looked over by Indians. One day they went as far as the walls of New Amsterdam itself.

They did not speak our tongue, nor did we speak theirs. At first we did not know they were watching, but they grew more bolder by the day. They even dared to show up at our walls, it looked like they were investigating our walls.

But we did not shoot, no, we gave them food, water, and supplies. Those natives were surprised by our generosity. They left, with smiles. - Heindrik Vermeer, Journal of Heindrik

They landed….Away far from the Turk rule and freedom to do as they please! With a land rich with the opportunity the Syrians began building their new home, a home that they will cherish ever so close to their hearts. The dream of coming to the new world and touching its soil, filled and pumped into all their hearts, A place where they can pray, and not be taxed and didn't have to worry about the far-off wars. The first thing that began as they landed was a prayer, They began their zikr in which it seemed the words encompassed all around them.

The Syrians had grasslands and forest but not like this, Back home it uses to make them happy and it was viewed as a rich man's life to live within such...Now….they have forests and grass all around them, bringing goats and horses, they let them graze, the Shepherds were happy and content...It seemed a bright and happy future was there...and there to stay.

Scouts were sent to look at the surrounding lands, making sure to stay in groups of five and Didn't leave to far from a safe territory, If they did meet the Natives they heard so much about, then-No hostility will come forth but Make sure they only defend themselves. FOR THE NEW WORLD! YA ALLAH!

Fall and Winter of 1601

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor schilderijen david schulman

Current Leader: Mr. President, Cornelis Tromp

Autumn came fast after the summer. By then Tromp's colony was well settled within their new environment. New Rotterdam had become a proper settlement and farmers had began settling a large part of the Tjessepieck bay region. The harvest was good for the first one, and food was plentiful, something that was also due to there being less mouths to feed than expected... A disease had swept through the region, their kin in New Amsterdam had also suffered from it they knew. 63 people in Trompsylvania had died from it, which may not seem like much, but it certainly was for a little world that only counted about 2100 people. Cornelis Tromp was one of the many individuals that suffered from the disease, but luckily didn't die. Nevertheless the brave little colony, the home of the free, lived on. The few doctors they had, had learned from the disease and set to work finding a cure. Food and supplies were hoarded for the winter, the first snow fell soon.

But then came a time to set aside the worries, and celebrate. First came the Dutch feast of Sint Maarten, or Saint Martin. Children from all over the little town of New Rotterdam went outside after dark with little lanterns, going from house to house, singing songs in return for candy. Then came the 5th of December, Sint Nikolaes' feest, Saint Nicholas' birthday. In great anticipation, children and teens awaited all day while they drank warm chocolate and tea, and ate speculaas cookies. Great anticipation, because they were worried Saint Nicholas maybe couldn't come to America. Perhaps he was too busy with Europe? They sang prayer-like songs at the fireplace, wishing for Saint Nicholas not to forget them. Then they heard it. A loud bang on the front door. The children went silent while the parents smiled softly and encouraged them to go look. When they opened the door they were faced with a bag of presents and a dark individual disappearing in the cold, snowy night. "Zwarte Piet! Zwarte Piet!" The kids called after him, hoping he'd maybe come back to give them something sweet, but to no avail. The next day children all over Trompsylvania showed eachother what Sint Nikolaes and Zwarte Piet had given them, playing with their kites, dolls, hoops or playingballs, all of them telling they believe they saw the Saint himself riding on his white horse through the night.

Then finally came Christmas time, the feast to celebrate their saviour's birth and to share love and presents. A small band of people left the colony and rode their horses through the snow, taking presents with them to share with the Iroquois people up north. Surely they'd appreciate the share and care in this cold and dark time of the year, perhaps they could make some good friends.

---

Amidst all the celebrations, Tromp was still recovering from the disease. He was worried, the doctor had told him he'd never fully recover, and his health would most likely remain weak. He'd survived for now, but the doctor couldn't guarantee for how much longer. This got Tromp to worry about the future of their small independant colony and the future of his people. He needed to secure a peaceful future for them. To make sure they would never lose their freedom to anyone. He had to establish a proper base for their nation, a safe one. He figured he could do this by starting with limiting his own power and that of his inevitable successors. Four years, that'd be the period of time their ruler would rule for. In four years you could make some progress, but not give yourself too much absolute power. It seemed good to him. He also decided to take the Republican Experiment to the next level. Not just the council should be able to vote for their leader, all people should! (all people concerns not all people, women, children, slaves, indians, and people of other races excluded). So what should be his title? Everyone just called him mister Tromp, but that was moreso because he hadn't given himself a title yet. Some called him admiral, since he used to be one, but even that was too prestigious to him. He wanted his title to be something humble-sounding... Nothing like emperor, king, prince or even stadhouder or governor... His secretary rolled his eyes, he found the whole question of title a bit overexaggerated, "For the love of God! Why don't you call yourself 'president' if you want to be the humble guy, Cornelis?!" he said. Tromp failed to see the sarcasm in this remark, and instead found it a brilliant idea. 'President Tromp', like he was the president of a bookclub or something.

Prince Donal and his retinue were easing into their roles of power. The committees were numerous but scattered. The true power was laying in the hands of a select few. An oligarchy if one was to label how their government worked. Donal, the general of the militia, and wealthy nobles/merchants called the shots. The entire population was under their thumb. None could leave or enter the city without their express permission. Money, resources, and land dictated who had a say in the commonwealth.

With the discovery of other nearby colonies Irish doctrine increased in zealousness. They would completely isolate themselves in their city. No foreigners are allowed in, at all. Instead any wishing to trade or negotiate would have to meet Irish merchants on the beaches of the harbor. There they would see the imposing stone walls, and constant troop patrols. This is not because of any ill will though. The Irish saw past religion and race. Mainly because they were blinded by one thing, wealth. Anyone who would help them would soon earn a great friend. Plans begin for grander economic cooperation.

Following all this new commotion is the Commonwealth's first expedition. 100 brave militiamen are pulled from the city garrison. It would be their mission to scout the immediate land bordering Dyflin. In teams of 25 they will look for resources and fertile grounds.  They will be the precursor to a soon to be civ settlement. The news of the other colonies sent shockwaves throughout New Munchen.  Protestants, barbarians… Believers in false faiths at the very least. They would have to be made to see the light of the LORD, that Otto knew.  But for now he was content to continue construction in the town, and send for trade to the colony of Neu Brandenburg.

After all, they might be Protestants, but they’re also Germans.  That was something, no?

Autumn and Winter of 1601

The summer had passed quickly for the people of Vinland, and now autumn and winter approached.

They had met no other settlers, no natives, no anything. Truly, Vinland had proven to be an isolated haven away from any foreign threats. The people went by their days quietly on the island, tending to their farms, working on builders, preparing to settle other lands.

The Duke-Governor, Prince John of Holstein had spent his time away in his manor, carefully overseeing the development of the colony. Yet, the absence of other people’s nearby was one that worried him. How could they possible be allowed here?

The ships departed a few days later, settling sail to explore the coasts. Cartographists were present on the ship, going to map the area around their colony.

One year, they had spent here. Now it was onto the next.

The Colony of Hanseong

Pae Seung-Su sat in the ‘Capital’ building with several others as they looked over their situation. It was very clear the so called Germans had hostile intent. However they hoped for a peaceful resolution but Pae knew it was unlikely.

Despite his and many others doubts on the situation, he had ordered a small group to New Brandenburg in hopes of finding a peaceful resolution.

The days had turned to weeks and the weeks had turned to months, yes, that was how much they were partying. Well until they weren’t, about two months in (after they discovered a settlement) the brigands stopped partying. It was time to pirate. Marcolo begin preparing his crew, checking the cannons, and generally making sure during those two months nothing had really gone wrong on those ships. Though there was a huge problem: rats, these suckers set them back months as they had to exterminate them.

Anyways, Marcolo decides to send a frigate, two schooners, and a small freighter as an “envoy” to these lovely people. The frigate with himself on it, and the schooners n’ stuff manned by irrelevant captains. Off he goes to some island west of him!

Also known as New Spain...

These Colonists and their leader? Well they’re doing swell. Antonio was managing everyone quite well, they even got an alright harvest! Until the Pirates took most of said harvest… Ya, by swell I mean people were starving and still scrounging for food. Finding little when they went further inland, Antonio hatched up a plan.

See the Pirates had found numerous settlements and Antonio was sure at least one of them wasn’t starving and might even have a surplus of food. So he persuaded a pirate captain, through the usage of promising a percent of next harvest that pirates didn’t have to steal, to go attempt diplomacy with him. And that is how it went, well except that Antonio continued to till more land in an effort to be self-sustaining of course.

Nouvelle-France

King of France: King Henry IV of the House of Bourbon

Head of Colonial Expedition: Samuel de Champlain

Colonial Holdings: Quebec

Religion: Catholic

Quebec, Mid Autumn, 1601

Inside the trading lodge constructed north of the city a well aged gentleman standing in front of a fine desk in his private room, his attention focused on the stack of papers unceremoniously dumped upon his table. With a sigh he walked around the table and seated himself, staring at the paper with a look of contempt for a moment before taking the stack and straightening it out on the edge of his desk, a look of concern and worry growing on his face as he began reading the words of the first paper. What in God’s name are the Russians doing here, and furthermore can we even be sure of our safety with them so close? Setting the stack aside for a moment, he considered why he hadn’t been informed the minute the scouts returned with news, but he quickly shook his head lightly and grabbed the papers again. Of course he wasn’t informed, the others didn’t even want him here, let alone trust him, and in all honesty he felt the same way. No, his journey here had not been of his own volition, it was his cousin, the King of France himself who had sent him to this god forsaken land. It had been a punishment wrapped in the pretense of a gift, being sent as the King’s own representative in the New World, a title meaningless to his kinsman who cared more about trade and wealth then the state and honour. Such a dishonour was a slap in the face for a man of his prestige, especially after securing the throne for his cousin during the succession crisis after Henry III’s death. No, Henri, the Prince of Condé, was not punished for his disloyalty or betrayal, but for his faith. Being a Huguenot in France was not as bad as it had been under previous rulers of course, but Henri knew he still faced discrimination in the eyes of the catholic majority, assuming his downfall being plotted by groups of Catholic nobles influencing the King. Instead of being in his rightful place at the head of France’s army, he was wasting away far away, absentmindedly signing decrees and acts on behalf of the King to govern the new colony. Of course despite the facade of leadership, it was obvious from the beginning the true head of the expedition and colony was to be Samuel Champlain, a much more charismatic and younger man who had extensive knowledge of the lands they had set out for. But perhaps these Russians could change his luck, if he could petition the King for a force to be sent in the coming years he could seize their lands, showing his true worth and perhaps earning his way out of this hell hole. So with a lighter heart, the aged Henry de Bourbon set aside the papers to deal with them later, quickly setting to work on a formal letter to his cousin, asking for reinforcement of supplies and men in order to seize the wealth of the Russians.
