FireCrimson 109 Share Posted September 14, 2018 (edited) Neu Munchen The first thing that had been built was the Church. Otto von Wittelsbach, the first Graf von Unbekannte demanded it, as leader of the army out of Bavaria. None dared to question him, and none truly disagreed with him so it rather worked out well. To say that they were a colony of Bavaria was not quite true- it would be much more accurate to say that they were a colony from Bavaria. Bavaria was a landlocked nation, and in truth, they had only made it over to the New World thanks to stolen ships. But now that they were over here, their path was clear. To bring Catholicism to the new lands under the German culture. There would be none who could oppose them. This they knew. The Light of GOD borne by the warriors for the Vicar of the LORD... Sander 3154 Share Posted September 16, 2018 TrompsylvaniaVirtus libertas est, et independentiaeFall and Winter of 1601Current Leader: Mr. President, Cornelis TrompAutumn came fast after the summer. By then Tromp's colony was well settled within their new environment. New Rotterdam had become a proper settlement and farmers had began settling a large part of the Tjessepieck bay region. The harvest was good for the first one, and food was plentiful, something that was also due to there being less mouths to feed than expected... A disease had swept through the region, their kin in New Amsterdam had also suffered from it they knew. 63 people in Trompsylvania had died from it, which may not seem like much, but it certainly was for a little world that only counted about 2100 people. Cornelis Tromp was one of the many individuals that suffered from the disease, but luckily didn't die. Nevertheless the brave little colony, the home of the free, lived on. The few doctors they had, had learned from the disease and set to work finding a cure. Food and supplies were hoarded for the winter, the first snow fell soon. But then came a time to set aside the worries, and celebrate. First came the Dutch feast of Sint Maarten, or Saint Martin. Children from all over the little town of New Rotterdam went outside after dark with little lanterns, going from house to house, singing songs in return for candy. Then came the 5th of December, Sint Nikolaes' feest, Saint Nicholas' birthday. In great anticipation, children and teens awaited all day while they drank warm chocolate and tea, and ate speculaas cookies. Great anticipation, because they were worried Saint Nicholas maybe couldn't come to America. Perhaps he was too busy with Europe? They sang prayer-like songs at the fireplace, wishing for Saint Nicholas not to forget them. Then they heard it. A loud bang on the front door. The children went silent while the parents smiled softly and encouraged them to go look. When they opened the door they were faced with a bag of presents and a dark individual disappearing in the cold, snowy night. "Zwarte Piet! Zwarte Piet!" The kids called after him, hoping he'd maybe come back to give them something sweet, but to no avail. The next day children all over Trompsylvania showed eachother what Sint Nikolaes and Zwarte Piet had given them, playing with their kites, dolls, hoops or playingballs, all of them telling they believe they saw the Saint himself riding on his white horse through the night. Then finally came Christmas time, the feast to celebrate their saviour's birth and to share love and presents. A small band of people left the colony and rode their horses through the snow, taking presents with them to share with the Iroquois people up north. Surely they'd appreciate the share and care in this cold and dark time of the year, perhaps they could make some good friends. --- Amidst all the celebrations, Tromp was still recovering from the disease. He was worried, the doctor had told him he'd never fully recover, and his health would most likely remain weak. He'd survived for now, but the doctor couldn't guarantee for how much longer. This got Tromp to worry about the future of their small independant colony and the future of his people. He needed to secure a peaceful future for them. To make sure they would never lose their freedom to anyone. He had to establish a proper base for their nation, a safe one. He figured he could do this by starting with limiting his own power and that of his inevitable successors. Four years, that'd be the period of time their ruler would rule for. In four years you could make some progress, but not give yourself too much absolute power. It seemed good to him. He also decided to take the Republican Experiment to the next level. Not just the council should be able to vote for their leader, all people should! (all people concerns not all people, women, children, slaves, indians, and people of other races excluded). So what should be his title? Everyone just called him mister Tromp, but that was moreso because he hadn't given himself a title yet. Some called him admiral, since he used to be one, but even that was too prestigious to him. He wanted his title to be something humble-sounding... Nothing like emperor, king, prince or even stadhouder or governor... His secretary rolled his eyes, he found the whole question of title a bit overexaggerated, "For the love of God! Why don't you call yourself 'president' if you want to be the humble guy, Cornelis?!" he said. Tromp failed to see the sarcasm in this remark, and instead found it a brilliant idea. 'President Tromp', like he was the president of a bookclub or something.-Actions- AP = 6 current + 5 base + 3 from settlements + 5 (market) - 0 AP army upkeep - 0 AP navy upkeep = 19 AP FS = 1 base + 2 from farms + 2 from fertile lands = 5 FS Population modifier = 5% base + 0.1% from farms + 0.1% from fertile lands = 5.2% Population = 2104 -63 (from disease) = 2041 * 1.052 = 2147 No Army 1 Small Freighter Trade relations with West India Company are accepted. The committees were numerous but scattered. The true power was laying in the hands of a select few. An oligarchy if one was to label how their government worked. Donal, the general of the militia, and wealthy nobles/merchants called the shots. The entire population was under their thumb. None could leave or enter the city without their express permission. Money, resources, and land dictated who had a say in the commonwealth. With the discovery of other nearby colonies Irish doctrine increased in zealousness. They would completely isolate themselves in their city. No foreigners are allowed in, at all. Instead any wishing to trade or negotiate would have to meet Irish merchants on the beaches of the harbor. There they would see the imposing stone walls, and constant troop patrols. This is not because of any ill will though. The Irish saw past religion and race. Mainly because they were blinded by one thing, wealth. Anyone who would help them would soon earn a great friend. Plans begin for grander economic cooperation. Following all this new commotion is the Commonwealth's first expedition. 100 brave militiamen are pulled from the city garrison. Cararax 5 Share Posted September 17, 2018 Nouvelle-France King of France: King Henry IV of the House of Bourbon Head of Colonial Expedition: Samuel de Champlain Colonial Holdings: Quebec Religion: Catholic Quebec, Mid Autumn, 1601 Inside the trading lodge constructed north of the city a well aged gentleman standing in front of a fine desk in his private room, his attention focused on the stack of papers unceremoniously dumped upon his table. With a sigh he walked around the table and seated himself, staring at the paper with a look of contempt for a moment before taking the stack and straightening it out on the edge of his desk, a look of concern and worry growing on his face as he began reading the words of the first paper. What in God’s name are the Russians doing here, and furthermore can we even be sure of our safety with them so close? Setting the stack aside for a moment, he considered why he hadn’t been informed the minute the scouts returned with news, but he quickly shook his head lightly and grabbed the papers again. Of course he wasn’t informed, the others didn’t even want him here, let alone trust him, and in all honesty he felt the same way. No, his journey here had not been of his own volition, it was his cousin, the King of France himself who had sent him to this god forsaken land. It had been a punishment wrapped in the pretense of a gift, being sent as the King’s own representative in the New World, a title meaningless to his kinsman who cared more about trade and wealth then the state and honour. Such a dishonour was a slap in the face for a man of his prestige, especially after securing the throne for his cousin during the succession crisis after Henry III’s death. No, Henri, the Prince of Condé, was not punished for his disloyalty or betrayal, but for his faith. Being a Huguenot in France was not as bad as it had been under previous rulers of course, but Henri knew he still faced discrimination in the eyes of the catholic majority, assuming his downfall being plotted by groups of Catholic nobles influencing the King. Instead of being in his rightful place at the head of France’s army, he was wasting away far away, absentmindedly signing decrees and acts on behalf of the King to govern the new colony. Of course despite the facade of leadership, it was obvious from the beginning the true head of the expedition and colony was to be Samuel Champlain, a much more charismatic and younger man who had extensive knowledge of the lands they had set out for. But perhaps these Russians could change his luck, if he could petition the King for a force to be sent in the coming years he could seize their lands, showing his true worth and perhaps earning his way out of this hell hole. So with a lighter heart, the aged Henry de Bourbon set aside the papers to deal with them later, quickly setting to work on a formal letter to his cousin, asking for reinforcement of supplies and men in order to seize the wealth of the Russians.
