Siege of New Edo

The Siege of New Edo continues to drag on. Japanese bombardment of the Aztec camp is a common occurrence initially, but low ammo supplies force the defenders to use their cannons sparingly. The condition of the Aztec army shows no sign of improvement. Disease ravages their ranks more seem to buy into the belief that these strange invaders may be the gods themselves. Destertion becomes widespread by mid fall.

 

In a final attempt to rally his army and finish these invaders off once and for all Amoxtl rallies his army for a second attack. Early in the morning, before the sun rises, Aztec death whistles erupt from the forest once more. Thousands charge forward New Edo. Hastily prepared defenders take up their positions on the walls, cannons,  muskets, and bows alike exchange fire. Canister shots wreck havoc on Aztec men and morale, but the men push onwards. After nearly two hours it happens. A Japanese soldier is struck with an arrow to the throat, killing him instantly. His torch falls to the ground, igniting a nearby supply of black powder. The ensuing explosion creates a small opening in New Edo’s defenses.

 

Aztecs pour through the gap as samurai run forward to fill the opening and push back. The melee lasts for hours as the attack continues across the city. By midday, it is finished. Aztec forces were pushed from the city, rumors spread that Amoxtl himself was killed during the fighting. Only two days following the second assault, the Aztecs collapse entirely. The army disbands into the wilderness and much of their camp is left behind. The Japanese are victorious

 

The Aftermath of the siege is devastating. Mounds of dead fill the fields and streets. The stench of death hangs heavy in the air. Craters litter the ground surrounding the city, a product of the defender’s cannons.
