THE EMPIRE

OF BRAZIL

THE BRAZILIAN ECONOMIC PLAN

Announced today was the new BRAZILIAN ECONOMIC PLAN. Designed by the Ministers of War and Finance as a way dual way of forwarding the war effort and boosting the economy, this new Plan will see contracts for coffee and sugar give to major Brazilian companies, to provide these luxuries for the Entente armies, as a means of raising morale.

In an attempt to provide adequate shipping for such goods, HEFTY SUBSIDIES and TAX BREAKS are offered to Argentine, Chilean and US shipping companies who choose to relocate themselves and their operations to Brazil, to expand Brazilian shipping power.

BRAZILIAN INDUSTRIAL EXPANSION

Brazilian industrial expansion continues, as the country attempts to upgrade her industrial base. Focusing on building modern factories, railroads and mines, vast sums of money are spent on the various projects.

As part of these industrial plans, the Brazilian government begins to survey for both minerals and for oil, hoping to give a much needed boost to Brazilian industries.

In addition, the Brazilian government also begins to lay the base for a successful steel industry, and construction of steel mills begin. Tax cuts and subsidies are offered to all companies who take part in the industrialisation.

COMMUNISM MADE ILLEGAL

Brazil has become the first nation in the world - after Russia - to ban communism. This ban, made in support of the Russian war against the Soviets, was enforced by the Brazilian States’ Military Police, who rounded up known Communist groups and charged them.

AGRICULTURAL EXPANSION

In an effort to provide more than plentiful supplies of food and to cement herself as a leading food exporter, Brazil begins to deforest large swathes in an attempt to create large estates of arable land, lumber plantations, rubber plantations, mining sites, settlements and cattle ranches, to be sold or rented at very cheap prices.

Using slash and burn tactics, these estates are created in places that will not adversely affect the Brazilian coffee, rubber or sugar industries.

Third French Republic

The war situation develops

Economy:

Exported French iron is now cheaper in Britain, the aim of this is to decrease the cost of producing the new British tanks.

A loan is requested from the USA (Player)

Evacuations of Paris begin, they are to be moved down to the South towards Toulouse, Marseille, Brest...

Military

“they shall not pass” the term was coined in Clemancaeu’s latest speech. The Germans must not cross into the capital. The line must be defended at all costs!

Recruitment drives made in French colonies, North Africans encouraged to join the French army and protect their lands from the Italian & Ottoman hegemonies.

Naval convoys will supply the North African French armies to ensure that supplies are abundant. This should allow a more extensive and mobile campaign.

Horses and camels are taken from farms in North African colonies, they will suffice for the French armies in Libya.

Kraljevstvo Srbije

Prince Alexander addressed the nation in a telegram published in all major Serbian newspapers, printed over two weeks and distributed to all corners of the Kingdom, as well as the frontline. Serbs across the Balkans deserve to know the betrayal that their brothers on the frontline had faced in the Spring Offensive, and so they would be told the truth.

“Good citizens, Serbs and Southern Slavs,

On the 28th of April, our forces began an offensive into the Struma basin. Our brave soldiers achieved resounding success, capturing key targets and forcing the Bulgarians out of their hideouts. Alas, the assault was halted when we were betrayed. The only other remaining member of the Balkan League, Greece, has stabbed us in the back, just as the Bulgarians did in 1913. They have sided with the enemy. Thousands of Greeks and Bulgarians attempted to push us out - but couldn’t hold a candle to the might of the Serbian army. Against overwhelming odds, we held our ground and eventually beat the enemy back. McQyv2SZd9dOFib_AgbPoFMuKZFB58sP-kFS3ueu5_jmnzKmo2w2y6UyO8UfkOefQ_sm_uuup-KbtIG8S0SRf8IyoFi3JiUoyv_HIByvRzvTemhb_Hldd5uMzdjUVn1B1Zwve4n0

It is evident however, that this is not what the Greek people want, as many have defected to join our side. For they recognise that we didn’t start this war. They see that we want only strength between the Slavic peoples, and understand our strife. No, the Greek people do not want this, but their corrupt and incompetent rulers have led them astray. They are not cut from the same cloth as the Bulgarians, they are not evil and treacherous by nature, but their government must pay for the slight against us.

But I bring good news also. We are winning the war. By the efforts of our brave souls in the armed forces, the brilliant minds of our tacticians, and the hard workers at home, the Bulgarians have asked for an armistice, and the Greeks will surely soon follow! само слога Србина спасава!”

Meanwhile, in Kosovo, the industrial hub of the kingdom, the first recon monoplane rolls out of the hangar and onto a military runway. There were only five pilots in the Serbian Air Force, under the command of Major Kosta Miletic. They’d seen only one mission in the first Balkan War above the Shkodra front, on a reconnaissance flight above Ottoman positions. Two of these same pilots would fly the first standard Serbian recon plane, fitted with a camera and machine gun on a tripod in the rear seat. The plane itself is not dissimilar to the French Blériot XI - an extremely lightweight, and altogether not too stable looking piece of machinery, capable of doing its job nonetheless. Soon it takes off heading towards Bulgarian and Greek lines, to scout and photograph troop positions. The quota for these plans is set at 200 currently, which would make up the first fleet of purpose-built military aircraft in the kingdom. Meanwhile, research would continue, as the aero-science division is allocated more funds.

Talks of an armistice begins with Bulgaria and Greece, as many expect the end of the war to come soon. But preparations for another assault begins should the peace talks fall through.

ACTIONS

  • Speech by Prince Alexander, regent of Serbia.

  • Serbian delegates meet the Bulgarians and Ottomans for peace talks.

  • Greeks are invited for peace talks.

  • Serbian aviation industry continues development.

Battle at Verdun

Rommel moved across the open land before ducking and rolling into a Trench, others looking to him as he stood. “Oberleutnant?” A man asked, He stood up dusting himself off of mud and dust “What is it?” he replied “We thought you were dead.”

“I was only scouting for a couple hours, for god's sake Heinrich. Get the men ready, we need to prepare for the offensive!” The others quickly move about grabbing their rifles and assuming their positions.

“Offensive begins tomorrow!”

-German Established Airfield-

Standing on the wing of his new Eindecker Fighter, he watched as two Zeppelins flew over the airfield. The Iron Cross painted large on the sides of these flying beasts.

“Richthofen!” a voice called, her turned to see his friend running past “Get ready eh?” he runs to his own plane, they move about, engines stir and pop as they build to a roar, The planes en mass move to the field as they begin to pick up speed.

Manfred watched as they lifted into the air and climbed away from the ground, forming up around the Zeppelins. The Sun was barely over the horizon as they flew over German Positions that shelled the french entrenched in Verdun. As they neared their positions they began to break apart from their formations. Manfred brought his fighter into a dive, watching hordes of french flee from their trenches. Open firing with his machine gun, the fighters massacred troops out in the open as they strafed enemy positions. It didn’t take long before the Zeppelins flew past..

Dropping the might of the German Empire obliterating enemy positions.

Rommel yelled out to his men “FOR THE VATERLAND!” he ordered the men to charge as the fighting grew brutal and bitter as the Red Devils and most Elite German Korps engaged in a fight for Verdun…

-Actions-

Officers from the Western Front are pulled back to Germany to aid in the regimenting and organization of the new recruits they had just gained, as they were deployed this year (Mod)

The Secret Project Continues….the INSANITY! (Mod)

Naval Production continues to focus on Submarine Warfare (Mod)

The German Government Issue’s a public demand for France to Surrender, prompting that if Germany must force the country into a surrender by total military force France will suffer far harsher under Military Occupation than if they willing surrender. Hoping to force parties to demand their own government to surrender. (Mod)

1915 (Later Months)

Revolution abroad! The 2nd International had certainly been busy this year. Trotsky and his coterie were followers of Lenin. But they did not firmly believe in one nation. While Josef Stalin and his Soviet Councils fight the civil war, Trotsky looks outward. Soviets going into China begin to organize and contact local student and union bodies. And soon with the Beiyang/Japanese war, many were angry. The final straw was Japan Razing the Chinese coast, leading to outright revolts against the War Lord cadre of China.

220px-Bundesarchiv_Bild_183-R15068,_Leo_

In the ‘Great War’ is it’s being called, many things shift. The Germans had successfully tricked the Entente around Paris. While they fortified the city, the Germans moves elsewhere. Combined German, Italian, and Austrian Army Groups all under German chief of staff Eric Von Falkenhein assaulted Verdun. The great fortress was now almost entirely surrounded, as France reeled from the blow.

In Egypt the British Expeditionary Force makes a tactical retreat. They would fight to the last around the Suez, a more and more common policy amongst the BEF. The Centralist and Entente navies of the mediterranean stare at each other across a vast Centralist mine network.

Bulgaria capitulates! Following relatively harsh terms, the Central Powers secures peace with the Bulgars. Germany and the Ottomans can now link up. The Serbians and Ottomans move to occupy their new land, and ensure Bulgarian compliance. Austria for her part received very little. Emperor Josef did not seem concerned however. With Franz Ferdinand alive, they had taken a true look at their empire. And it did not need more land nor people. The Austrian army marches home, and mans the Austrian borders. 1 Million Austrians are soon packed off to the Western Front.

This Easter marks a very unfortunate one for christians world wide. An irish Republican Brotherhood faction decided to stage an uprising in Dublin. Despite Ormonde and his Irish volunteers, all the MP help, these radicals decided to not wait for reform. The revolt was from the onset a sad, confused affair. Many refused to take part, or were ordered not to, than ordered to. Communication was bad, but several key buildings were occupied. Snipers took potshots at Dublin police and garrison forces. After a week of siege like conditions and the BEF/Navy being called in, order is restored. Unlike against Germans, the BEF showed mercy. Many ring leaders are rounded up, and it is up to Britain on what to do next.

Greece enters a time of uncertainty as Centralist and Entente followers clash. Will they follow Bulgaria?

In aerial warfare, German fighter pilot Kurt Wintgens becomes the first person to shoot down another plane, using a machine gun equipped with synchronization gear.

An extremely overloaded International Railway (New York–Ontario) trolley car with 157 passengers crashes near Queenston, Ontario, resulting in 15 casualties.

The United States occupies Haiti!

marines_1915.jpg?itok=KiaJFP4n&resize=11

Serbian Army private Radoje Ljutovac became the first soldier in history to shoot down an enemy aircraft, with ground-to-air fire. Granted it was a shoddy outdated French nieuport bought by Bulgaria.

William J. Simmons revives the American Civil War era Ku Klux Klan at Stone Mountain, Georgia. (Unfortunately)

Albert Einstein presents part of his theory of general relativity to the Prussian Academy of Sciences.

The 1 millionth Ford car rolls off the assembly line, at the River Rouge Plant in Detroit, Michigan.

Spain

The Women acceptance into medical staff is passed. However many are opposed to full on voting rights, etc.

The Officers learn it rather poorly. Simply taking learned information from news of the war and it’s battles is not enough. The Spanish army is dated, and will take time to properly learn the rules of modern war. To be fair France and Germany had hardly begun either.

Massed training go underway. Generals learn to move men in their formations, but not much else. Nothing compares to real war.

Refugees and immigrants flood into spain. Mainly poor catholic French and Italian, they move to stay. City populations grow dramatically.

bueno83_1914-26_fig48_corporal_campaign_

Poland

For now Poland had very little men or experience that would result in an actual logistic corps.

Polish Veterans from several wars and battles begin training the new Parliamentary army. Recruitment is high as Poles are more unified than before.

Using independent engineers and Russian funds very slow progress is made on lines around Warsaw.

Arms Industry sees a little spike in growth. But Polish industry was small and scattered. It will take more time.

With the Warsaw leadership actually agreeing to open elections, Polish civil war halts. Instead people flock to vote, every man having the right. The results are not exactly what the former Regime could of wished for. Democratic, Moderate, and Socialist parties take a joint 70 seats. Though not one big party, Poles were not exactly keen on autocratic rule of this new Republic. 30 Seats go to the nationalist party, many distrusting them due to being Russian ‘puppets’. This will soon cause problems, as the Russian Union Duma had banned all Socialist parties, would they try to do the same in Poland? Consulship is disbanded in favor of a proper President or Prime Minister. The National Party barely manages to get Pilsudki in as President, but he is elected.

Russia

The Army growth increases as the man power is tapped into. Their quality and arming them will soon raise their own problems as the army expands ever onward. In the next six months nearly 1 million men will enter training.

Aircraft Research falls flat, many companies not wishing to invest in a Nation in Civil war.

The Russian Arms Industry grows within Duma cities, adding to the potential to supply more men.

Russia focuses on heavy trains, and will soon have two properly modern armored trains (by 1915 standards) ready to choo-choo!

RIAN_00872900_468.jpg

Great Britain

British plans for tank go as planned. For now early on tanks are prone to breaking down, or other problems. But with every passing day they gain more knowledge on the subject. Funding is low as they focus on defense, but still continues.

Though 6 may be too hard to reach while repairing the navy, and arming, 4 are settled to be produced by mid 1916. Bringing Queen anne class ships to a total of 8 (I think)

Using Women and German POWs Great Britain's capability to produce LARGE amounts of supplies continues. However many are worried at the growing debt, as they struggle to keep to the gold standard.

Though European armies have no actual specialized subunits of infantry, Jan’s “Commandos” works. South Africans were promised a vaunted position as these men. However the truth was they were just more line infantry. They are ready for immediate deployment.

This strange Specialized units from colonies continues, as ANZAC troops and volunteers fill out these two divisions. They will be ready by 1916 April.

The BEF is sadly well aware of their position. But British pride and Government propaganda made sure they knew how important this fight is. They would hold to the very last! (ideally)

Brazil

Though her economy was sagging (Exports were needed for guns not coffee) The American Trade Pact and new reforms ensured Brazil would stay in the green. Troops on the western front get to actually enjoy good coffee, improving morale. Several German trench raids were made just to retrieve these stores. The Kaiser even drank some!

Industry slows down as a result to banning Socialism. Many democrats and socialist wanted unions, and actual representation. As a result the working class started several violent strikes, some rumored to be started by the Republican resistance.

Brazil Police sent to round of known Socialist are the first to die in what seems a looming civil war. Republicans and Socialist militias who had been arming since last year make to support their party leaders. Successful, they melt into the jungles. However some are rounded up, many in the capital to slow to get out.

Brazil finds a few new deposits of ores within the Jungles, but are constantly harassed by rebel factions.

Slash and Burn is effective, as the Jungle is pushed back. However in several areas they uncover nest of Indigenous and Republican guerilla cells, fighting is bloody and one sided. Brazilian army regulars are forced to be deployed to protect any efforts. The Empire’s control of the coast and arable land however was rather firm.

Steel mills and Industry expansion goes slowly, many scared to invest with brazil seemingly unstable.

France

Industry and Civilians flee from Paris. The Germans could shell it, making it dangerous to live there. Only soldiers and stubborn citizens remain. The blow to morale is big, many see it as the Government fleeing from German armies.

France continues her desperate entrenchment.

Pulling almost 100k men from her colonies, France reinforces the western front.

Japan

Recruitment and deployment continues as planned.

Japan is still busy building her first and second orders of ships! (Keep track please)

Korea continues to be tied closer into the Empire, their way of life largely unthreatened and they are allowed to live life as they please.

Blockade continues as China is robbed of most of her export/import capability.

Korean agriculture continues as planned.

Serbia

Serbia rallies around their new Monarch, outraged at the Greek audacity.

With much German and Italian help the Serbs get to a point where they can produce their own shoddy recon planes.

Model_H_over_Huffman.jpg

Ottomans

With success in the field, came success in politics. For the first time since before 1912, the Ottoman Empire was the one dictating results. Their soldiers carry back many stories that rallies the populace to the government. However the gruesome reality of modern war and the death it brings also come. Almost all the Sultan’s elite janissaries are dead.

Dejamal Pasha disregards the Ottoman government’s command. By now he was already far too committed. His army of some 12,000 were pushing into Armenia. ‘Rumors’ of Armenian Genocide filter back. The minority populations rallies around the Government’s denouncing the whole act. However many staunch Turks and Islamist praised it. The army continues to march on Baku….

Reprimanding the Phoenician events gave the Sultan some leniency. The Centralist Greeks were ready for now to accept the Sultan, so long as he helped get the Prince on the throne.

Though the Sultan order’s their arrest, very little CPC members are actually found. By now they had gone silent, or fled the country.

With direct routed open to the rest of the C.P now, Ottoman arms industry grows at faster rates in Palestine.

Production begins of both Gas Mask and Heavy Artillery.

coa_ottoman_empire_by_tiltschmaster-da42

Germany

Germany at this point has loosened all restrictions of recruitment. With a large manpower pool she recruited more than expected. At this point she now has nearly 6 million men under arms. 2 of that being the rawest, which the training focuses on. Many try to forget the almost 600,000 dead and 1.5 million wounded. But still, the Imperial army is healthy and growing.

More and more U-Boats roll out, as Great Britain begins to feel the hurt around her isles. U-Boats preyed on warships, and merchant marines carrying weapons. This helps ease the blockade, which is strangling German import from the atlantic. Germany more and more looks to Imports from Russian Union states (if allowed), her allies, and abroad.

The French spirit is still not broken. Many still support Poincare and the army.

Several elections across Spain occur as the new year arrives, with a shift in the political power. A new Prime Minister is seated as well. Out of the 409 seats in Spain, 213 are seated as Conservatives with Eduardo Dato leading the pack. Eduardo Dato formerly served as Minister of the Interior, and Minister of Justice. Several royalists also dominate as a separate unit from the conservatives but have heavy ties with the Conservative Party at 59 seats. Many liberals are unseated from power as nationalism rises in Spain with a locked control of power as a coalition government with 272 of 409 seats. Joaquín Sánchez de Toca y Calvo serves as Dato’s second in command who formerly served as Minister of Justice and Minister of the Navy as well as Mayor of Madrid.

Alfonso sits back in his chair, while he speaks to his wife. “My people may be angered by the outcome of the conscription but it is for a great cause. What I need is to get their minds off of the world for a moment…” He pauses in thought. “I believe possibly that a new holiday could be created for this very occasion.” Alfonso pauses again, “A memorial day. A day to remember all that our predecessors have done before us and to give thanks to what we have become. A day every person can have the day off.”

Charge! Spain launches its invasion into Portugal, claiming rights to several cities that were once apart of the Spanish lands under King Phillip I&II when he first united the Iberian peninsula. The government promises a quick conquest of Portugal with the new Prime Minister explaining in a quote, “The Portuguese will soon come to realize that they are beholden to the union of Iberia. Iberia should be one as was the natural progression of Castile and Aragon into Spain, so shall the natural union of Portugal and Spain be.” A two year war against Portugal is promised by Dato.

Troops along the French border move in their attack plans, aiming to capture the two closest towns to the border. Artillery batteries blast into any guard regiments in the area as Spanish troops move in to garrison captured land and dig in. The Rock, an old sore to the Spanish, is sieged with the entire town being surrounded by well trained companies of men. Over 32,000 soldiers put pressure on the Rock.

Prisoner of war camps are immediately established to allow enemy combatants who surrender to be safely kept away from the war. They also serve as a way to prevent mass killings of future Iberian citizens. In these camps, prisoners are taught to not think of the war of Spaniards versus Portuguese but of a war of unification of brother kingdoms.

Actions Taken:

A new holiday considered ‘Memorial Day’ is proposed to the government to honor the past and remember all that Spain’s predecessors had done for Spain. This day is to be May 1st.

A conservative government is established in office by the vote of the people from the promises of a better Spain and a powerful Iberia.

Spain officially joins the Central Powers.

War is declared on nations in opposition to the Central Powers. War plans are activated.

Prisoner of war camps are created, primarily for Portuguese soldiers.

Kraljevstvo Srbije

The war with Bulgaria was finally over - two, basically three, straight years of bitter and bloody fighting finally drawn to a close. Thousands paid the ultimate price for Serbian freedom, and as such a national memorial day is declared. Newspapers print two pages filled with nothing but the names of the deceased and their divisions, to be remembered as heroes. As the first troops begin pulling off the frontline, they parade through major cities, showered with roses and gifts, hailed as saviors of the slavic race. Soon, battles and detailed events of the war began to be declassified and published, highlighting the heroics and professionalism of the Serbian army during the conflict, though little is said of Austrian nor Ottoman participation. In fact, many high ranking Serbian generals criticised the Austrian involvement. One saying that gained popularity across the country came from Field Marshal Petar Bojović, who claimed the now infamous phrase in an interview with Txe Telegraf newspaper:Jc8hk4rZE0XfCOLYcuGE2LNM88OsCGP3WsjVMBeLEgsrivnj81e9yWWI5kTM0B1m_8GC-0zYbcR8cF8EjjIOD8Ih7wiVL6G53IAMG8S0hMbyRZwnZ9iWGp16YNKmDo4jr5w1NX2d

“The Serbs did the fighting. The Serbs did the bleeding. The Austrians? They did the looting.” This came as a reference to Austrian ignorance of suggested Serbian plans, as well as their march across the north of Bulgaria - which was mostly undefended. Instead of fighting the Bulgarian army, they raped and murdered the Bulgarian civilians. Not that Serbian treatment of the Bulgarians was much better, but those atrocities were by and large swept under the carpet, and censored from the press. Prince Alexander II, despite his father’s pleading, didn’t do much to discredit these claims, and though he didn’t say anything so controversial himself, the general opinion was that he agreed with the Field Marshal.

Besides, Alexander had more pressing matters to attend to than to support petty insults. He had 400,000 men returning from war, an experienced but hurting and disorganized army, and several internal problems that had to be solved before Serbia could progress to further stability and greatness. Over six months after the war had ended, Alexander planned and executed several key goals that would strengthen the Serbian state:

  • First, the military needed restructuring. The casualties sustained combined with patchwork reinforcements had left the divisions entirely jumbled, with some having a force of 20,000 whilst others had a little over 10,000. As a result, the standard division size would be strictly 12,250, with 6,000 support elements of the artillery and logistics corps headed by a Major General. This would leave the armed forces with 33 divisions, and make planning and organizing the army’s maneuvers much easier in the long run. Major Generals are picked from Company commanders with exceptional or impressive service records, the most famous of which being Vasko Aleksic.Niv9QknLCCmY5DnTwg__mYC6J5qXHvKfZFuTpK69quZqZuMAjx7pmEuPPnc1qroT398zY2E0RDoaMwlX6U5_ePxDZgLvuk9Hq5QuQGi0EDa-qes4d1ZOk-dDDnvS7UPylEfm_WSN

  • Secondly, using the influx of reparations from the Bulgarians as well as profit made from exporting to the Central Powers members (notably pork and grain exports to Germany, and motorvehicle parts to the Ottoman Empire), the Serbian National Rail company as well as the transport sector of the government begin buying railroads within Serbian land off of Austrian companies in order to finish off economic reliance on the larger neighbour. This was started by the King in 1908, but with his switch to Austrian appeasement the plan was abandoned. The project is now revived.

  • Alexander continues to abolish suppressive laws within the kingdom as his father had done a decade prior, in order to reestablish the consensus that Serbia was a safe haven for not just ethnic Serbs, but also Slavic culture and identity as a whole. Working hard through public appearances and speeches, he tries to instil the idea that no slavic race was inferior to another, and - begrudgingly, at the behest of the Minister of Foreign Affairs - started spreading the idea that even the Bulgarians now in Serbian land could redeem themselves through hard work and service to the Kingdom. Though public acceptance of this would be slow to come round, the government continues the propaganda push.

  • A program is set up to increase the population of Serbia in the coming years, notably by pushing for higher birthrates. Larger families will be entitled to subsidies from the government in order to support them financially if one or both parents have jobs. As for parents with three or more children, the eldest born will be entitled to attending University, public schooling or a work apprenticeship for free, whichever the parents (or child, should they be 17 or over and still living in the same house) decide. The second child will have the choice of the remaining options, and the third receiving a scholarship to attend the third.

  • The current standards to enlist in the armed forces is to be between 21 and 46, and as such will be lowered to anyone between the ages of 17 and 46, in order to potentially increase the number in the armed forces, if only by a few thousand. Racism and discrimination within the army is cracked down upon, and equal opportunities are guaranteed to soldiers from all locations and walks of life. Even ex-Bulgarian soldiers are allowed to join up and enlist into the Serbian army. Any form of bullying or racism will result in a severe punishment (beastings and revoked weekend passes for first offence, lashings for second offense, court-martial for third). Anyone caught physically assaulting a fellow soldier because of their nationality or original country will face prison time or (depending on severity) death by firing squad.

These reforms are installed over half of the year, supported by the government which, at the higher levels, was essentially under Alexander’s thumb. The railroad industry is put under the governance of the Economic Development of Transport sector, along with those companies working to establish better motorized vehicles, such as trucks, tractors and trains. This sector receives large amounts of funding, given the importance of movement of supplies in the war. For now, the aviation industry is kept under the influence of the military’s research sector, and continues development, even as recon planes roll off the line and pilots begin to be trained.

Meanwhile, the fractured government of Albania is notified of a declaration of war with the casus belli of subjugation and unfair treatment of ethnic Greeks in Northern Epirus, who had tried to form the Autonomous Republic of Northern Epirus in 1914. At the conclusion of this war, the lands of Northern Epirus will be transferred to the ownership of the now Centralist Greek government. Serbia had also never recognized the the new Republic of Albania as a legitimate government, only recognizing the independence of the Principality of Albania in the London Conference in 1912. As that government failed to keep their country under control and suffered ethnic Montenegrins and Serbs living in Northern Albania through a civil war, they are formally called a failed state in need of Serbian intervention.

-------------

ACTIONS

  • Restructuring of the military.

  • Purchasing of Austrian owned railroads within Serbia.

  • Abolishing of suppressive laws within the Kingdom, following Peter I’s initial plan in the 1900s.

  • Larger family encouragement.

  • Relaxed military standards for joining, from 21 down to 17. Bulgarians allowed to join. Discrimination and racism cracked down on within the military, but not civilian life.

  • Transport industries and aviation industries allocated more funding.

  • Albania is delivered a declaration of war.

Late 1915
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A lot had changed really fast in the summer of 1915. William Howard Taft took a step back from politics and focused on his job as a Professor at Yale University Law School. The man replacing him as the main figure for the Republican party was Charles Evans Hughes, governor of New York. Woodrow Wilson’s position within the democratic party was uncertain after all his arguing with Taft made a fool of himself. His position as the face of the party was being contested by men like James Cox, John Davis, Edwin Meredith and a man with a familiar surname, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the Assistant Secretary of the Navy. With Taft out of the picture and Wilson’s position for the next elections uncertain, Theodore Roosevelt began to seem like the light in the dark of American Politics, but then shocking news was shared.

All over America, September 20th, 1915

At noon on the 20th of July, all radios sounded the same presidential message, by dinnertime, the newspapers had caught up on it and the next morning, everyone knew what the President had said…
“What follows is a message to all Americans from the President of the United States of America.” Said a neutral voice on the radio before Roosevelt started speaking. “My fellow Americans.. Ahum… I interrupt your lives today to bring you a message, a message that might shock many of you as much as it did me. For the past months, I haven’t been feeling ‘fit as a bull moose’ like.. cough like I used to, I thought nothing major of it until just last week.” He wheezed slightly as he took a long breath and coughed a few more times. “Last friday, I woke up feeling stuffy, lightheaded and dizzy. I could barely.. cough stand on my feet as I got out of bed. For a bit I thought it would pass, that it was just a part of getting older. But as the afternoon approached, I didn’t start feeling much better yet. I… Called in my cough cough my doctor… And after some examination… He.. Diagnosed me with Tuberculosis...” He coughed lightly and took a deep breath again. “I’ve been under medication to give me energy ever since… But sadly, my condition is past the stage of the disease being likely to be cured anymore… I.. Feel capable enough to keep working, partly due to the abundance of great men in our government that are willing to work hard on everything.. But this does mean I will not be running for president again next year, despite already being nominated by my fellow P- cough cough cough COUGH cough my.. My fellow Progressives… By the end of the  year.. I will retire from politics to.. In the hopes of peacefully living out the last of my days. From then until the inauguration of the next president, vice-pres cough vice-president Johnson will take my place. I felt that I needed to share this information with you, my fellow Americans, as soon as possible, as my remaining days in life are counting down… I thank you all, for the opportunity thou hast given me, and this beautiful land we’ve shaped together.. I wish I didn’t have to let any of you down like this.. But I fear there is no other way. For as long as possible, I will still do what I can for you.. I hope you all understand my decision and support me in it... God bless you, and God Bless America!” A wheeze and incoming coughing is heard before the message cuts out.

Port-au-Prince, the Occupied Territory of Haiti October 5th, 1915

In late July, the president of Haiti was assassinated by rebels that wished to overthrow the government. The United States of America stepped in to aid their neighbour, sending US marines and soldiers in an invading force of about 1,500 men. The fighting didn’t take long, only 28 American soldiers were killed and  70 Haitian soldiers opposed to over 200 rebels. The Haitian government had regained control of the country, though it remained occupied by the USA due to remaining political instability. By October 5th, most fighting had died away and American soldiers were garrisoned across the island, including the capital… and the seat of government. No corrupt presidents could be allowed to ruin this country no more, so the US Army took control of the nation until they could find a suitable new president. Of course this had to be someone who understood the United States’ interests in Haiti… For now though, Haiti would remain a place where there was no government except that of general Shelton and the US Army’s 1,500 soldiers.

Governance Office, Lincoln, Nebraska (?) October 15th

Recently, the citizens of Nebraska, the large majority of which had German heritage, had been complaining to the governor of Nebraska to permit a referendum for changing the state’s name. A first referendum had proven that a majority of Nebraskan citizens did in fact want a name change. A second referendum had shown that the favourite optional new name was ‘New Hanover’. While the governor remained hesitant, he eventually saw himself forced to further the issue to be voted on in congress.

War Industries Board, Washington DC, October 31st, 1915

To further the mobilization programme, the Council of National Defense formed the War Industries Board as a government agency to coordinate the purchasing of war supplies and equipment between the War Department and the Navy Department as well as the producers of said supplies and equipment. Combined with this, the annual budget for the Council of National Defense sees an expansion to account for the greater purchases of equipment.

Food Administration, Washington DC, November 31st, 1915

As a joint effort between the ministry of Agriculture and the Council of National Defense, the United States Food Administration is founded to ensure sufficient food supply and production for a nation with a growing army. It’s main two goals are ensuring a sufficient American food supply in times of mobilization and war and providing food to be sold to the Entente. Other objectives include but aren’t limited to stabilizing the American wheat and corn prices as well as bolstering growth of the agricultural sector.

EMPIRE OF BRAZIL

“Dom Pedro de Alcântara, Emperor of Brazil, addresses the Parliament and the Nation, in regards to recent events plaguing the Empire of Brazil.”

“Brazilians! Men and women, boys and girls, all of ye who inhabit our most glorious nation! We are, by Light and Grace of God, brothers and sisters, all Children of Brazil.

And yet, a series of inglorious events has not only left us divided, but actively fighting, slaying our siblings, our fellow Brazilians. Political violence, unseen since 1889, now runs riot throughout our fair nation. The jungles run with blood, as Brazilian slays Brazilian over a difference in political ideology.

The cause of these events is two fold. The catalyst is, of course, the foolish and harmful banning of a political ideology by my government, while the exacerbator is the arming of the groups of that ideology with ill intent towards both myself and my government.

However, Brazil cannot and must not be allowed to descend into a state of civil war - to that effect I, as Emperor, hereby make the following amendments to the Bill.

Trade Unions are legal, and not only are they legal but all workplaces must allow a trade union should their workforce demand it.

There shall be no restrictions on striking - rather it is the unalienable right of the working man to stand up for his well being.

A policy of free school meals for children shall be put into place, emulating the British system - Children will be given either a free breakfast or lunch at school.

Also copied from the British shall be a policy of National Insurance - a small sum will be taken from employees’ wages, a larger sum from the employer and another from the government. What these payment shall go towards is sick and unemployment pay, providing money for those who find themselves out of work.

Finally, I pardon Communists and Republicans who have been arrested for their political beliefs rather than their actions, however, the actions of the Jungle Guerillas are inexcusable. Innocent Brazilians have been slain in hideous acts of violence, and for that these men must be brought to justice.” [MOD]

PEACE!

The bells ring with joy! Peace! Peace with Germany! With the Central Powers!

Following the brutal naval battle in the Mediterranean sea, the Brazilian government formally announces their official withdrawal from the conflict, and the return of their divisions, corps and ships to Brazil.

Trade between the Central Powers and Brazil, notably, has been allowed, and soon Brazilian goods will flow back out into the world, as the Empire licks her wounds.[MOD]

Trade Agreement with Japan

Brazilian and Japanese envoys formally signed a major trade agreement in Kyoto, after a short series of talks. [MOD]

Industrialisation

Brazilian industrialisation continues -the government continues to seek major investors for steel mills, mines, arms factories and the like.

Meanwhile, the Brazilian government continues the expansion and construction of both old and modern naval dockyards, aiming to create facilities capable of constructing Dreadnaughts and other major ships. [MOD]

Deforestation

Deforestation policy continues, with the Military States Police turned out to defend workers from rebels. Reclaimed land is up for sale cheap, in an effort to provide poor farmers and ranchers with plenty of lands. Meanwhile, surveying continues with military protection and the government again seeks major investors for mineral sites. [MOD]

Guerilla War

25’000 Brazilian troops are sent in the hunt for scattered rebel groups. These forces are also used to defend pushes to reclaim land from the Rainforest.

Notably, the soldiers are ordered to arrest rebels, and to shoot to incapacitate rather than kill.

A major government push to label these rebels as violent extremists is launched, with the names of every worker or policeman killed by them printed in the paper, as well as newly announced reforms for the benefit of the common Brazilian citizen. [MOD]

Army Restructure

In an attempt to modernise the Army, it undergoes a organisational restructure, the first of a large series of reforms aimed at modernisation. Organisation is as follows:

-Army Group(480’000 men)

--Army(160’000 men) 1, 2, 3

---Corps(40’000 men) 1, 2, 3, 4

----Division(10’000 men) 1, 2, 3, 4

-----Brigade(2’500 men) 1, 2, 3, 4

------Regiment(500 men) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

-------Company(100 men) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

--------Platoon(25 men) 1, 2, 3, 4

In addition, the organisation of a dedicated logistics unit begins, with significant funds being given over to the creation of said department. [MOD]

-Emperor Dom Pedro III turns over three Imperial Palaces, to be made into State Orphanages and Hostels. [MOD]

The young Serb was shook awake as the truck he was sitting in hit a rut in the road, causing a loud metallic clang to reverberate around the chassis from the front axle. He’d been dreaming of sweet nothings, but his face was a terrible scowl now that he’d been disturbed from his slumber.

“Watch the damn potholes next time will you?” he asked, rubbing his lower back in discomfort. “The wheels are only made of wood, and we don’t have a spare.”

Nedeljko, his friend, frequent partner on assignments and the driver of this new and unreliable vehicle for the next few hours, waved his complaint off. “Well, it’s a lot better than using a horse. At least we aren’t getting a whiff of **** every couple of minutes.” The truck bounced on, bumping and shaking when the road got rough, occasionally bouncing over tree roots and other obstructions. An hour or so passed with little conversation as the sun rose, until signs of activity finally started appearing. Farmers were beginning to bridle their horses for a days work as they passed, often either looking up and gawking at the loud, bundling vehicle passing by, or shaking their heads in disapprovement, waving off the relatively new invention. Eventually they passed through the countryside and into the fringes of a large town, eventually coming to a T-junction.

Pointing to a hand painted roadsign, the young Serb yawned before muttering “Down here, Dabrobosanska.” He pulled out a small book, scanning over a page before tapping on some words. “Yeah, we’re nearly here. Look out for a butchers.”

“Finally, my arse is numb from this damn thing. You sure we can trust this guy?” Nedeljko asked, though he was so tired that he didn’t really care for an answer.

“God only knows,” replied the Serb. “I don’t question these things. Besides, worst comes to worst, we get captured and tortured or have to crunch down on some cyanide. Nothing too bad.” He let out a short laugh at his own joke, before it turned into a rough cough, which he caught with a handkerchief.

“Humour has never been your strong point, has it?”

He received no answer as he pulled up alongside a shop where two men were hauling pig carcasses onto a cart. They stopped and turned at the sound of the vehicle, before one immediately dropped the carcass and ran inside.

“Well that was subtle,” murmured Nedeljko. He turned off the truck, and grabbed a pistol from under the seat, then relaxed in his chair. “If you aren’t back in 5, I’m loosing bullets.”

“Not that you’d hit anything,” replied the young Serb, as he dismounted and headed into the butchers. Inside, a grim man with a scarred eye and twirled moustache awaited him, holding a cleaver. He stood up, without talking, and stood to the man’s face. Cleaver in his left hand, he held out his right, and smiled.

“Brat!” he beamed, his grim face turning into a large grin. “Come, let us see what you’ve brought us!” He herded the Serb outside, and back towards the truck. Upon seeing them, Nedeljko seized up, before relaxing and folding his arms. He lay back and tipped his hat over his eyes, intending to catch his first wink of sleep in almost a day. Meanwhile, the pair walked to the back of the truck, opening the hatch and shifting aside several bags of meat and grain to reveal several long boxes. “Zlatan, Vidak! Dođite i zgrabite oružje. Take them into the attic.”

At that the two men from before drop what they’re doing and run to begin unloading the truck. Two boxes are hauled up and dropped on the counter of the shop, where the scarred man and the Serb inspect what is inside.

“A Chauchat, it’s French,” the Serb muttered to the other man, letting out a short grunt as he picked it up. “Cut down a lot of our men in Bulgaria this did, we grabbed them wherever we could.” He handed it to the butcher to hold whilst he opened the other box. All the while the two boys - now joined by Nedeljko, who’d been begrudgingly woken from his slumber - were hauling box after box upstairs. “This other one is a Lee-Enfield, British made. There’s three more of these, two French Lebel 1886’s and a few Bulgarian Mannlichers. Plus grenades and ammunition.”

“Very good, very good! When’s the next delivery?” The butcher lay the Chauchat back into its box, and called for - presumably his sons - to come and lift it out the way.

“They’ll come every fortnight, won’t be us again for a month however.” The Serb shook his hand again as Nedeljko came down the stairs, looking more exhausted than ever. “We’ve got to go now, many more deliveries to do.” He put his arm around his friend and said goodbye to the butcher and his sons, before walking back to the truck, covering up the munitions and locking the hatch. Suddenly he was hit with a sharp pain in his nose, followed by a light jangle as keys bounced off him and hit the ground.

“You’re driving for the next 5 stops, Princip. I feel like I could sleep until tomorrow.”

Gavrilo Princip laughed, before hacking up a cough and regaining his composure. “That’s nothing out of the ordinary for you, you lazy ****,” he said, before mounting up and starting the engine on his third try. They then pulled out, and drove north.

He thought of all the other delivery drivers doing exactly the same job as him, and smiled as he considered how they’d be remembered in infamy for their role in history.

The Great Patriotic War

In January of 1917, a combined Polish-Russian army swept across eastern Europe. The operation, code named ‘Mercury’ had been in intense planning for six months prior to launch. Polish and Russian soldiers had been intensively training to quickly occupy and rout the sparse German defenders. Finally, it had begun, East Prussia had fallen, and the Russians were at the gates of Danzig. The Polish National Army had seen its first taste of real combat in the south. fighting to liberate Polish cities of Krakow and Kattowitz, each man according to a source ‘fought with the ferocity of five Germans’

Across the country, propaganda filled the street. Posters urged men to enlist and fight for a truly united Poland. Other pieces brought news of the fall of East Prussia, The war was being dubbed ‘The Great Patriotic War’ and the hopes were to instill nationalism and pride in the peoples. More importantly hopefully rising the popularity of the National Party.

______________________________________________________________________________

The War Economy

The rather meager industry of Poland had been switched into an almost complete state of War. With permission from Congress, and the approval of Pilsudski any available factory was instructed to transfer at least 80% of their production capacity to war material. Rifles, bullets, and, equipment poured from the Polish industry to the frontlines. While the men head to the front, to finally liberate oppressed Polish lands, women were encouraged to work in the factories whenever possible.

______________________________________________________________________________

Call to Action

Poland has yet to be fully united. Austrian and German empires hold much of its ethnic lands. Sadly the war has matched brothers against brothers and friends against friends. Polish men serve on both sides. It is made known across all of ethnic Poland that the true Polish state will accept any defectors. Polish units under Austrian and German controlled are encouraged to rise up and join the Entente in the Great Patriotic War!

The German Empire was set upon by all sides, French Barbarians to the West and Russian Tyranny to the East. But the Vaterland remained strong and united despite the setbacks and growing situation.

German Industry continued to produce the assets needed for War.

_58484454_1915factory_getty624.jpg

Materials and Food flowed to the Eastern and Western Fronts as needed. The Civilian Population rationing even the most basic materials to allow their brave sons, fathers and brothers a better chance to save Germany from the Barbarians at her gate.

Despite the fact that they were new recruits, despite the fact that they had never fought a war or battle. Those two million brave young men have held back the Russian Horde from pushing into the Heart of Germany.

“The Russians have ceased Konigsberg, We estimate their numbers to be roughly three million according to initial reports.” he says shuffling through a number of papers on the large desk in the center of the room.

“Women are more and more taking up jobs in the factories, perhaps we could use this as another way to unite our people. Show how all do their part, for the Vaterland.”

“I agree Commandant, I’ll be sure to leave a heavy recommendation to our propaganda department.”

Germany signs a trade agreement with the Empire of Brazil, allowing Production Licenses in return for Rifles, Machine Guns, and most importantly Raw Materials (Mod)

The Mad Project continues (Mod)

Woman’s Work Force Propaganda spreads throughout Germany, the goal is to ensure the Industry does not falter due to lack of men in the workforce. But also as a way to further show the unity of the Vaterland to all those who would destroy it (Mod)
