The Russian Union

The Caucasus Question

Shortly following Christmas and the relief the soldiers were given in Caucasus region during the holiday, Prime Minister Ilyin unveils the new strategy to be employed by the Russian military. In cities and areas where the population was opting for guerilla methods, the Grand Duke would be ordered to enact strict martial law. Families of suspected guerrilla fighters would be targetted and imprisoned. Civil rights were to also be suspended here, and none of the guarantees would be used for citizens of Caucasia. Though, Russians in the region were to be treated with respect and care, so long as they were not rebelling. In addition to this, any Socialist or Communist Party Headquarters found in cities would be searched thoroughly before being destroyed, and often burnt.

The Future of Russia

In another series of speeches, Vladimir Purishkevich and other leading members of the Russian Duma would plead to those not in the war cause to find somewhere to receive an education. They would again continue to push for people to bring their skills to the more rural regions of the country. Propaganda is spread throughout the country in support of education. After years of children in the cities receiving free education, the Duma hopes to encourage those who were near graduating and even those who were just starting school to not only see their education through university but to also return and share their knowledge with the country by teaching or working in research.

Russian Aviation

The research and development into fighter planes are significantly slowed down and instead, an increased effort is put into improving the existing bombers. Factories are ordered to lower the focus on armaments now that the Russian Army would not be growing any larger, instead, they would ramp up production of bombers.

ACTIONS

Martial Law is declared in the Caucasus regions, for full specifics please see [The Caucasus Question]

The education initiative continues to receive Duma support as they push for those who had joined the program years before to move on and continue their education, as well as promoting teachers so education could be brought to rural regions.

Fighter research and development is converted into improving bombers, while the production of guns is slowed down enough to increase bomber production while ensuring the army is still well armed.

The Federal Security Service (FSB) is created in Russia and is primarily tasked with rooting out potential threats to the country. The initial doctrine of the FSB would center around internal operations and rooting out potential terrorists.

1917 (Early Months)

Fascism on the rise! In Italy a growing movement of aristocrats and monarchs start calling themselves under that name. They wanted to seize power from the Liberal government. Opting by way of peace, they begin to campaign vigorously. The Liberals for their part were still popular, and had restored Italy to her full border splendor. It seemed likely they would stay in the majority.

In Romania outrage at Austria is at an all time high. While Austria places troops on her border, Romania does not do the same. Since 1912 she had focused on a neutral entrenchment as they call it. Rings of forts, bunkers, artillery post, and other surprises keep the nation safe. Growing Fascist movements use this Austrian fear to gain power rapidly, perhaps supported by a certain Balkan Tsar and King.

In other areas the changes are more dramatic. In Bulgaria an autocratic Tsar Boris III seizes power. Under the ideal of fascism, he had swayed the people of Bulgaria. Humiliated by their neighbors, they wanted to rise. He did not press military means however. Bulgaria would instead focus on herself. Intense control through Royal Police ensures peace. Many Bulgars leave the Serbian army or occupied Balkan land to immigrate back in.

In Greece the pro Central Powers King and his coterie maintain power. Through crackdowns and use of nationalist parties they hold power. May Greek democrats and republicans flee to Italy or France. A coalition of right wingers, nationalist, fascist, and others were forming in reaction to Greek socialism. It seemed likely Bulgaria would support the King.

pimg_223192_Gedenkheft-Streiflichter2_A.

In China the Socialist party makes a more lasting peace treaty with Japan. Mainly led by young idealist and students, they were a vast ring of Communes with their own committees. Education and industry was paramount, unions, syndicates, and business growing rapidly. In more military matters the ‘People’s Liberation Army’ is formed. It will be the most veteran divisions, some even coming from the former Beiyang armies. The civil war continues, against the democrats and others. But the Socialist are making steady gains, and increasing her factories.

In Sweden outright civil war ensues. After seizing the capital, the provisional Socialist government of Stockholm forms. Army defectors, citizens, and 2nd International fighters begin on expanding, and entrenching their gains. The navy was defecting, while the Swedish army and Democratic government fled to establish a base elsewhere. There was much discontent and poverty after the stagnation of the Great War.  Sweden was suffering, and the inspiration [and motivation] of the Socialist movement was strong.

In Spain the anarchist state of Catalonia continues its armed independence. They have already clashed numerous times with Spanish Republican troops. But Republic was a loose term nowadays. It was led by the King, Catholic Church, Generals, and Conservative Aristocrats. The more moderate and radical Republicans, Democrats, Socialist, and soldiers were in open revolt. Across Spain sectarian violence ensues. But Catalonia becomes the true focus of an actual war.

Growing Independence movements in Indonesia as in the Netherlands socialist begin to gain the majority.

Continued outrage at the U.S in all of Latin America is growing. The failed invasion of El Salvador used in various propaganda mills.

Poland formally reenters the Russian Union.

A blast at a munitions factory in London kills 73 and injures over 400; the resulting fire causes over £2,000,000 worth of damage.

An anti-prostitution drive in San Francisco occurs, and police close about 200 prostitution houses.

Hjalmar Hammarskjöld steps down as Prime Minister of Sweden; he is replaced by right-wing businessman and politician Carl Swartz.

The Commissioned Officer Corps of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey is established.

A tornado strikes Mattoon, Illinois, causing devastation and killing 101 people.

Ireland

Though still going through the process of separation from the Empire, Ireland begins her economic reforms. Many foreign and domestic investors cash in, with the Federated Ireland being far more lax than the British in taxes for now. However a dependence on imports is soon apparent for many more complex or lacking resources in Ireland.

The Gaelic Reform act is passed in the higher Government and King. However many English or Anglo-Irish citizens were not too keen on having to learn these languages and abide by them. The Ulster province and Belfast federal cty draft into their legislature, with all this freedom given them, to block the bill from passing in their provinces.

With open ports and low taxes, the Irish enter the Global market.

With the need on so much reliance on themselves instead of England, Irish jobs and companies form and begin to employ the populace.

For now agriculture reform falls flat. Ireland was already very busy with other bills.

Though many Unionist do leave Ireland, plenty more stay. They had land, or finance in Ireland, and were tied to it. Plenty still saw it as English, or Protestant land. Some were even moving in, such as Scots. The Irish Republican Brotherhood was also a major dissenting faction. They wanted more radical goals, and justice for the easter rising. These Ulster and Republican factions were at odds, and even clashing. This was all under the guise of a new Monarchical and Federal government. They had dissent in their own ranks, and are in a precarious position.

Austria-Hungary

The Conscript armies return home, flush with the victories won from the war. The core Austrian army, and some recent volunteers, all opt to remain. The Recruitment offices also sweep in many more men. Plenty of minorities wanted to be under Franz’s reforming army. The German language initiative was also taken as a necessity, many having experienced the lack of communication on the field.

The formation of these ‘Shock Troops’ begins. For now few had very little idea of just how big they should be, or how to use them. Besides increased training, and trench raid tactics, the concepts of specialized infantry were very new.

Imperial Academies begin, and hundreds of nobles and some commoners attend. The victories of the Central powers has emboldened the aristocrats of the Empire. They see this new non-conscript army (A first in modern continental Europe) as the Empire’s jewel. Many join the navy as well.

Radios do not exist yet, they instead focus on better telegram wiring, and smarter pigeons.

The Science University construction and gathering of Austria’s minds will be ready for work by 1918.

The condemnation of Socialism was not a popular one in Austria. It gained Franz some traction with the aristocrats, but plenty of average Imperial citizens sympathized with the 2nd International. Many unions and trade guilds followed some form of it, and had profitable results. In government itself there were socialist MPs, now blocked from their work. It leads to growing discontentment.

Soldiers out of work begin to repair Galicia, ironically paid with the spoils of war taken from Russia.

Coffee, wood, and other exotic Brazil goods begin to fill aristocrats manses.

Austrian.3.jpg

Germany

Though not exactly keen on handing power over, the German Generals had to. The Imperial army was defanged with post war demobilization. Instead they shed a good light on themselves, and entered Reichstag politics. Men like Moltke, Falkenheim, Ludendorff, Hindenburg, they were all becoming political animals. On the other hand a growing caste of civilian industrialist, democrats, and socialist were also rising stars. Elections for the entirety of Germany will be announced as 1918 begins. Women will also have the right to vote, making matters more interesting. Women's suffrage is passed under the current Reichstag.

Socialist, Democrats, and Unions form a broad coalition to flip the house from their opposition. Elections will be in 1918 as Germans start to do large political campaigns [opposition does the same]. Many socialist want peace, and are admirers of the 4th French Republic.

Shifting from military to domestic goals, DELAG begins it’s expanded Zeppelin works. Already having similar concepts of carrying things in mind, plans are made for cargo zeppelins. They begin work on a model which can hold a large bay to store goods, and increased fuel range. Passenger transport is put aside for now.

Germany’s portion of the Berlin-Baghdad rail-way resumes work. The entire rail is estimated to be done in two years.

The veteran German divisions are kept in service, as the conscripts are sent home. Many had shell shock, or were several unhinged. Others had picked up quite radical ideas in France, or Russia. Many others simply returned home, to start or re-join family.

A little low reaching, regardless Richtofen becomes leader of Germany’s air wing. He had been a massive star, but was relatively low rank. Now his talents are writing documents, and appointing staff. He begins to copy France’s newest tactics of an actual ‘Air Force’.

Having been a massive goal since 1912, Germany once again begins building up her navy. The U-Boat element was kept is, and the High Seas Fleet receives the attention. The fleet by now was fully repaired after the North Sea battle. But Germany will not focus on shifting her ships over to oil from coal. A small blessing was she had lost many of her outdated ships in the battle. She begins work on the newest German class of Dreadnought, one that ran on oil over coal, and had better range.

Arms are shipped off to Brazil, who know who they’ll end up killing.

From pilot to dictator of a colony, Goring rises in relevance. Him and a caste of German soldiers are incredibly racist to the populace. The only thing keeping them in check was the Kaiser, and Reichstag. German East Africa had been receiving improvements for years. There German settlers (after geocoding the natives for some years) had learned to live in peace. They were perhaps Germany’s only example of democracy in Africa.

Brazil

The Speech garners some favor to the Emperor and Brazil. They are seen as founders of the ATP and Latin stability.

With Japan leasing most of her ship yards, the Brazil navy plan can go ahead a little faster. However the bill is enormous, perhaps too much so. Most nations far more powerful than Brazil like France or Austria only employed three or four. To build and maintain 5 battleships, alongside cruisers, and a doubling of lower ships was too much. Instead they focus on a smaller version of the 5-6 Plan.

The articles are an ironic copy of the U.S Wilson scandal days. They have the same affect, as many Latin newspapers republish the story and it begins to spread. A victorious El Salvador remains quiet however.

German arms begin to pour in. Used mostly, they had seen their share of battle and death. And that will likely continue.

Industry continues slightly slower than planned, mainly along the coast.

The rainforest continues to shrink, as villages pop up in its place. Mainly ex soldiers, or socialist working in forester unions. It was like the wild west in some ways. Throngs of men with different ideas, all working side by side. Profits roll in.

Mainly having to focus on herself, Greedy Brazilian generals hoard the German arms. Lesser or outdated Brazilian and German equipment reaches Brazil's other partners.

With little experience or aircraft factories, Brazil was entirely dependent on foreign aid for this. Clumsy training begins on forming a recon caste of Brazil pilots. The one problem was, seeing past all the jungle. Regardless training and purchasing of equipment begins.

Newspapers begin and start stories.

3rd French Republic

Though her debt is growing, France gains the finance needed to continue funding herself.

The increased wages help a bit with morale, most men grimly saying at least they can die a little richer. Truth of the matter though every nation’s army was extremely low paid. Even 10% made French soldiers quite well paid by these days standards. It helps calm the less radical troops.

The French navy battered from her Great War fights returns to Republic hands. It helps morale somewhat. But after the disastrous naval invasion of Le Havre, lost much respect.

Propaganda continues to spread, becoming quite the ideological war with Socialist leaflets. Many French citizens have already made up their mind. Plenty others sit on the fence, swayed by both sides.

Whilst in the chaos of offensives and reform, Army brothels and healthcare is slow to take effect. The ideas are there however and the basic work begins.

Japan

The shift towards a more moderate Empire of Japan begins. Many die hard traditionalist oppose it, but are getting outnumbered more and more. With encouragement, the people of Japan call for another vote on the old bill proposing more voting rights.

Using Japanese curriculum schools begin to pop up in Occupied Chinese cities.

Work begins on the rail lines as well.

The word of Tanoisim continues to spread. In China this resonates with many of the educated men leading the Socialist Chinese. They were only too well aware of their nations history. Citizens were more skeptical, sticking to old chinese ways.

In Indonesia the results are more instant of volatile. Already having heard of Tanosim, many Indonesians were basing their own ideals now. Swayed by arriving Japanese prophets, the island begins to seethe.

With a shift back to domestic affairs, the Japanese army will receive less attention. But post war Japanese markets, industry, and steel are all thriving.

Great Britain

Many of the more minded Ulster parties agree with Baldwin, and welcome his support. All the Unionist do, but some might want to take matters in their own hands. However many Unionist rally behind Baldwin as a sot of national hero.

The less restricted Irish-Anglo trade begins to boom. GB begins to import a lot of her foods from Ireland now. The Investment pays off as the markets expand.

Many follow the newspapers and talkie reels of the upcoming Highbury Cup. It will be the first to be recorded with audio.

Portugal accepts every proposal, and begins nervously working on reforms as Spain burns.

Elsewhere in the Empire the new government’s reforms and plans continue.

large_000000.jpg

United States

A plan lauded by many, the United States once more focused inward. Passed through the house, the four year plan is implemented. U.S markets already growing, will become a global entity.

Investments also begin on the Rust Belt industrial strips. The cities will be the first focus, as incentive leads to more immigrants/americans moving in to work. U.S industry will grow at a steady pace.

Across America the hundreds of thousands of volunteers and conscripts remain in service. As the recruitment drive is ended, these men are the leftover. Across America they will now go to big training camps, and continue their process of joining the army.

More and more people arrive at Ellis Island. Particularly Greeks, French, and Italians.

After so many other nations allowing it, Women’s Suffrage is passed.

Zeppelin Programs begin in the U.S, as they must choose domestic or military pursuits with them.

President Carranza and his government graciously accept the American recognition. For their part they had been busy on industrializing their nation, and forming an actual government.

Paraguay eager to take a paper shield against the U.S signs the act.

Many were wounded, or dead from the grand French offensive. They return to the U.S and recount horror stories of the Trench Warfare. They had gained little, and lost much.

The Sleeper act is debated in congress but not much is done for now. It would have to sit, but is not outright refused. Many socialist parties champion the bill.

Socialist Transcaucasia

Continued drafting and training of the Federation’s people’s continues. (+25k Men +5k 2nd Int. Fighters)

Using funds from Baku, the Federation is able to stay afloat, and import many post Great War materials and guns.

Entrenchment of the mountain ranges continue.

Russia

Ethnic violence and communist run rampant in Russia’s newly regained territory. Many citizens have no choice but to obey, and order is gained. However the main Caucasian army remains aloof, most likely in their namesake mountains.

Some newly made teachers and older ones head to more rural estates. In more peaceful areas of Russia education begins, The Literacy rate was slowly but steadily rising.

Though ‘Fighter or Bomber’ planes did not exist, Russian recon planes suited for bombing operations continues. Learning their lessons from previous wars, they work on updating their current models to have more range and tonnage capacity.

The FSB though not allowed in Russian Union states begins in Russia itself. For now they begin to recruit and form operating procedure. More moderate or socialist factions are not to keen on the Duma’s “New Toy”.

4th French Republic

The Propaganda fights between Socialist and Republican France were at an all time high. With the recent failed offensives, the Socialist propaganda was beginning to take the most effect. Many dis heartened French just wanted respectable peace, not more offensives.

As a result more and more French and global volunteers pour in. The NLA and Foreign Legion were becoming proper armies, and properly armed too. The survivors of the first fights have learned the lessons of Trench War the hard way.

With much conscripted manpower and German aid Socialist Industry is now actually back to producing equipment and planes.

Colonel Charles and his attaches continue traveling France, aiding her people. He was increasingly popular, and rumored to run in elections after the war.

Ottoman Empire

The Empire begins to set up a centralized state, focused on the Sultan and Istanbul. Egypt after European rule was seeing a resurgent nationalism and Muslim movements.

The Ottoman shifts back to a peace time market, thankfully. Her nation had been feeling the strain, and needs time to heal. The more advanced weapon factories in Palestine continue.

People flood back to Cyprus as it becomes officially Ottoman. The now minority populations there anxiously tend to their houses.

Ibn Al Saud continues to consolidate power for his house, as he accepts Ottoman rule.

Many begin to see the Sultan as a religious figure as his tours continue.

Though not popular at home the Highbury cup does indeed bring revenue and Europeans. Everyone tries to ignore the shell hold in the pyramid.

This ‘Goth Mosque’ begins construction.

Work begins on connecting the closest major cities, but an entire rail network is some years off.

Many see a Pan Islamic creed behind the sultan as worth of praise. Plenty however fear a resurgent Ottoman state.

Across the Empire cities and towns take in the veterans, and see to their wounds, be it physical or mental.

Internal Reform

Unionists continue to leave Ireland in small numbers.

The Government of Ireland continues to push for the creation of public works programs to create jobs. As Well as a yearly continual growth of industry to the country.“Irish Mother and Irish Father, Ireland needs you to have a family! Irish Mother for the sake of Ireland have as many kids as you can to do your part to save Ireland and show the unionists they don’t control our lands!” Posters with just such messages are posted in great numbers in Northern Ireland by Irish nationalist groups, though majority of the messages do not promote violence against the unionists. They do paint a clear picture for Irish nationalist aims. To resist the Anglicization of Ireland, to hold onto their language and their culture and to one day be the majority in Northern Ireland by the sheer amount of children being born which has always been higher for the Irish. As in the North Unionists and protestants are treated as first and second class citizens while the Irish are stuck in the lower class being farmers and laborers and servants so they have the worst access to education and medical treatment. The Irish nationalists are planning to use that to their advantage and bear more children than the British living in Ireland while at the same time relying on the government to help improve their situation as to lower the amount of deaths per family.

The Great Gaelic revival continues full steam ahead. All Irish men and women are urged to learn Gaelic, use it daily in all aspects of life and all Irish children are urged to join Gaelic sports teams and football teams. Boxing is also becoming popular in the rural cities and in Dublin. Many supporters of the Revival are calling it an ‘Irish renaissance’ of mending the old Gaelic ways with the new, and expressing yourself in new ways. Many Irish poets and painters are expected to flourish during these times. Very controversial within the movement is support for letting women join in the Gaelic sports and the Gaelic national games that occur every year.

Many Opponents of the movement call it “socialist garbage intent on infecting Ireland and ruining her.” And see women as nothing more than walking wombs meant for nothing more than bearing children. Though not actually socialist many within the government including the King himself believe in many of the “socialist” ideals. Such as women having the right to vote, women being allowed to do play sports, and women being equal to men.

Meanwhile Farming reforms of all sorts are waiting to be passed through, These would help Ireland’s economy and her people immensely. More crops per yield, better, more efficient farming techniques, planting more than one crop, and more.

And finally the government of this new Ireland sets its trade policy to Free trade and will trade goods with any country including Great Britain, hopefully this will cause the opposite of the standard economic stagnation of countries who favor protectionism and while import tariffs are good, keeping them minimal means that Ireland would still get the tax on goods coming in while getting the benefit of actually having foreign goods flowing into the country. These reforms were largely ignored over the last few months, but now it receives significant attention with both counties as it becomes apparent just how important Ireland’s Agriculture business is for the economy and the citizens.

Lastly the Irish parliament votes to stimulate more economic growth in the northern part of the country especially in Belfast. Ship building is again needed in Ireland. Not just small vessels either. The private sector required many transportation boats and steam ships which would call for many new jobs. The smaller vessels and few men crew ships the average person might need are set to be build in other, smaller coastal port towns to create jobs for the small town Northerner. Furthermore Northern Ireland is to be the area in which three clothing factories are built with the wool Ireland produces it seems a good idea that some of her first factories put the wool to use, the factories are to be able to employ 1,500 workers each.

xpqmdlJ-3t095g2BnR5vmgXYSV9u4Bk_dGhfc5_ZG7A-jJAfrU97VNAIttL4oUZqSZvQYamKGwmynr1eZHH4VGo59P0f6hRwLEGSUWsk-A6YT8x7Q1E7uXI3rLXhSx6HwJIQPYbX

And finally the Government of Ireland establishes the Department of Public Health. And more hospitals begin to pop up around Ireland in the hopes of being able to improve the quality of life for the country's citizens. Most hospitals are built in more rural areas and in places where more farmers and lower class folks could come if they needed medical help, though places like Cork, Dublin, Belfast, Galway and Waterford see the addition of more hospitals.

    Foreign Policy

Ireland has received many investors and businesses popping up around the country and her economy is doing quite well, she remains open to the world's investors.

Ireland's army Officially starts training, the soldiers will receive a very disciplined and difficult course with constant drilling, designed to challenge even the toughest men and brings many to the breaking point. Their training from the insistence of members of the military staff like Tom Berry introduces guerrilla warfare tactics. But the newly independent nation also strives to have a very disciplined fighting force capable of fighting the enemy head on and only use guerilla tactics as needed under heavy push back by enemy combatants. The standard uniform of the Irish soldier is taken from the Irish Republicans and made standard for the army. Should take about 6 months to finish training the first batches of troops.

Fianna Fáil, “Soldiers of Destiny” is the motto of the Army and the insignia on all helmets and caps on the uniforms of the men.

And to be able to make enough uniforms the Irish National Army makes two of its own clothing factories to mass produce the uniforms and store them until needed. These facilities are to be built in rural Ireland, and bigger than the others opening in the north capable of hiring up to 3000 Irish workers per factory, and once enough are streamlined and stockpiled the two factories will be allowed to fill civilian orders for  clothing outside of the military. A multi-use factory. __lKOU8FKR9zbtB25FdOm04fpu0mDiFS2_T7cKDvQ16M5sGpobHn0kphI76Z_GVH07iVPInovvgsh7NaGSaqI9tx35cZ00mpTPSRK9cUHerRJSa8V1VnlFn9CL2MBXBUrPvOs3YC

The Empire of Japan

Naval_Ensign_of_Japan.svg

The Journey of a thousand miles start with a single step.

be1_2.jpg
Tōgū-gogakumonsho, that was the name of a university on mainland Japan. One highly appraised accros the nation and one which was for a large part focused on one particulair student. Hirohito Yamamato, also known as the heir apparent of the empire of Japan. Right now Hirohito was 16 years of age. Whilst in appearance he might have been similair to any other Japanese teenager he had much greater responsibility. With his father’s ailing health he was suspected to become Imperial regent sometime soon but right now that was not the priority. Right now he was having a philosopohy/history lesson with Sugiura Shigetake, an elder statesmen who was now focused on the eduction of Japan.

The two of them sat cross-legged on a carpet whilst between them was a low-levelled mahogany table with several books on it. Sugiura was now speaking to Hirohito. “My Prince, we have often talked about philosophy’s about the past but let us now focus on an important philosophy that is growing to be quite important, Tanoism.” The teacher then began to spoke in a lecturing voice. “As you might know Tanoism was created by the Korean Nu-Dong-Gun. He had seen the events on the Western front and seeing suffering from both the Chinese, Korean and Japanese soldiers saw the need for them to stay united. Because he also saw the looming threat of the West, who wish to increase their power at the cost of any other nation.” Hirohito nodded at this, listening intently to what his teacher was saying. Considering that it was an extremely important and active ideology. “In the Issho Ni Tsuyoko, Nu-Dong-Gon expressed three core tenents: 1. The need for a strong Asian state 2. The economic recover of China and 3. The folly of the Chinese warlords.

The first part is both the most important and the most relevant. The need of a strong Asian state is emphasised by showing the actionsof the European and for a large part allowing the reader to form a conclusion. It cites stories from the Opium wars until the battle of Bohai Bay where the Germans interefered with Asian affairs. The Issho Ni Tsuyoko emphasises that in order to withstand the pressure from Imperialist European powers a strong Asian nation is needed. With the only nation being viable to spearhead this Asian state being the Empire. ” Hirohito realized this and Sugiura did  not have to explain why the Empire of Japan was the only option. China was too fractured and Thailand was too weak. Whilst the rest of Asia was dominated by European powers. Thus leaving the responsibility of Asia under the empire. In the future under him.

The second, in contrast, focused on the recovery of China. This is needed in order to gain the support of our Chinese subjects as well as make that part of the empire more profitable. Making it easier for the Chinese territories to become assets for the empire rather than a pit that simply swallows up resources and manpower.” Hirohito thought about this. It was a logical solution after all. In his military lessons it was made clear what the costs of occupying foreign territories was. The garrisons needed and the measures that would need to be employed. Applying a military occupation accros a country so vast as China would be near impossible.

((TO BE CONTINUED LATER))

More work is put into building railroads to connect the cities of China. With the Japanese Government seeing the economic benefits a good railway system can bring as well as faster mobilization and troop movement accros China. Thus works on the Chinese railroads continue. [MOD]

On top of that the ideological war continues. Japanese ‘missionaires’ continue to ‘convert’ the socialists to the Tanoist cause. Whilst also doing their best to improve relations with the Socialist faction. This is so the two nation can get a closer bond with each other. [MOD]

At the same time more work is done in Indonesia. First of all the Japanese representatives proceed to set up a plan for the Indonesians to gain their independence.  The plan involves both a peaceful and more militarily focused approach. First of all, on an unspecified date, a revolution will start. With the start of the revolution protests will start on the streets with the Indonesians demanding their independence. At the same time armed Indonesians militia groups will occupy Dutch garrisons. Making sure that the islands of Indonesia can quickly be stabilised and aquired by the Indonesians if neccesary. Though the attempt to subdue the garrison should be as bloodless as possible. Making sure to first offer surrender and good prisoner treatment until the Dutch government acknowledges INdonesian independence.

The Japanese will also secretly smuggle in 50k guns and equipment of demobilized troops and reserves. On top of sending in several staff officers to make sure that the revolution will be well organized and will sucseed in a swift stroke of succes. Hopefully making the revolution quick and relatively bloodless

[MOD]

In order to continue improving the local economy of China and to increase the prosperity of the occupied territories the government sponsors several industrial projects in China. Sponsering new steel mills, new factories etc. with much of the factories being built in Tianjin where Japanese machines can easily be imported. This is so as to both increase the industrial output both in times of peace and in times of war. With the factories allowing the production of goods that will improve the standard of living accros Japanese China. [MOD]

-A plan is set up to vote for the new voting laws the next year. In order to properly review the laws and subsection and to allow both sides of the debate to prepare their arguments [No mod]

On top of that the army is demobilized. With the number of active soldiers reduced to 800k and reserves to 200k. With the number of active soldiers before the war increased so as to deal with the newly aquired territories. [No Mod required]

-An alliance is formed with Brazil

THE EMPIRE OF AUSTRIA-HUNGARY

TO MODERNIZATION!

The Empire was blooming under the diligent rule of Franz Ferdinand. The coffers were filling up on Russian War Reparations, the Military was becoming increasingly competent and efficient, and the overall populace was optimistic for the times to come.

Although a minor hiccup, Franz Ferdinand stood by his words when he meant the denunciation of Socialism. Though appearing lenient to some socialist ideals, the Emperor viewed the extremist form of Socialist Governance as a crime against humanity, in which one’s individuality is replaced by a machine like communalism.

But all this time politicking within his Palace had strained Franz, as he appeared increasingly weary, his wife, Sophie the Duchess of Hohenberg, took notice. Prompting the Emperor to take a leave from it all just for a few months. Unable to resist his wife, Franz agreed to a tour of the Empire. Leaving his Prime Ministers in his stead, he struck out with a small detachment of Imperial Guards, taking his children and wife on the proposed trip throughout the Empire in a clockwork fashion.

IMPERIAL STATE OF AFFAIRS

Civilian Affairs

As Woman’s Suffrage movements spill over from Germany and into the Empire, the Emperor and his Parliaments attempt to organize a proper response to such an ideal. To give Women equal rights on par with a Man’s would upset the status quo of Imperial Society, but it could also prove to be a boon to its various economies as Female workers flood into markets. Various legislatures are attempted to be passed through the House of Lords and House of Deputies in order to reorganize societal constrictions on the rights of Women, with Emperor Franz favouring establishing full rights for the Female gender.

The introduction of exotic resources from Brazil take the Empire by storm. The Dual-Monarchy had never been able to strike out into the world and claim itself a place in the sun, which had restricted its access to acquire any sort of rare goods. Coffee and Cocoa drinks become highly popularized by both the bourgeoisie and the common citizens that can afford it; it's even said that some furniture in the Emperor’s Palace was outfitted with Brazilian Mahogany.

The Imperial University of Scientific Advance continues its research into the matters of tele-communications. Hellbent on figuring out a way of improving the lines of telegrams around the Empire.

Military Affairs

Having understood the frustration that comes with mobilizing millions of troops throughout the Empire, the Imperial General’s Staff work under the Emperor’s Guidance a method of modernizing the Empire’s infrastructure. From establishing roads to far-flung reaches, to improving and expanding current railroads, the general goal of the objective is to improve the flow of Imperial Traffic, both in terms of military and civilian affairs.

This initiative works in conjunction with the Berlin-Baghdad Continental Railway.

Military spending this time of year around is spent mostly on the matters of Aviation. Some designated Academies that were previously established are now expanded with Aviation Schools, in which airborne doctrines are taught, improved upon, and drawn up. Pilots now enjoyed aviation on a leisurely level as they simulated dogfights and raced each other to designated checkpoints. A culture surrounding the matters of flight and aircrafts was forming around the various Academies as they begin to challenge each other to mock duels and races.

Coming at a standstill with the matters of Specialized Infantry, the k.u.k. Generalstab opt out of such efforts in favour of focusing on the previously mentioned Aviations affairs.

The Imperial Navy is dispatched from its ports in rotational patterns as they patrol its supply routes from the Adriatic to the Mediterranean tip of Gibraltar in order to keep it operational instead of having it rot away in its dockyards.

Foreign Affairs

Another bout of diplomatic conflict begins between Austria and Romania as the Emperor’s Parliaments accuse the Romanian National Government of funding extremists sects within the Empire during the Great War, as well as actively working with the Allied Forces despite claiming to be Neutral. The Austrian Parliament issues a demand of Reparation in order to repair the hypothetical damages that were incurred onto the Empire by Romania’s supposed clandestine activities.

IMPERIAL ACTIONS

  • Women's Suffrage gains tractions in the Empire due to the movement spilling over from Germany. The Imperial Councils begin to lay the groundworks to establish some sort of agreed upon Women’s Right. The Emperor being in favour of granting the Suffrage Movement its terms.
  • The Empire’s infrastructure undergoes an intensive project of expansion and improvement
  • The Imperial Military’s primary goal this time around is set upon the matters of Aviation, primarily the honing of the Pilot’s competence, with general aircraft improvements coming as a secondary thought.
  • The Imperial Parliaments initiate another bout of diplomatic conflict against the Romanian Government, going as far as to demand a monetary sum as reparation for their supposed interference during the Great War.
  • Telecommunications efforts continue as telegram outposts and lines are improved upon throughout the Empire. Methods are devised in order to figure out more effective ways to establish telegram lines to front-line units during wartime.

SPECIAL RELEASE: BALDWIN’S ‘LETTER TO THE BRITISH PEOPLE.’

BALDWIN: NEW ERA FOR ENTENTE

A LETTER TO THE BRITISH PEOPLE:

‘In the postwar world, we, the British, must stand for freedom and democracy in these troublesome times. But we do not stand alone. Our old allies in the Entente see the threat as we do, and we are prepared to act in defence of those principles which this country holds dear.

To that end, Norway has graciously agreed to allow Britain to send aid to Sweden. We will send military aid to the capitalist forces in Sweden and France, lest the light of liberty die in these countries.

I am commissioning with Mister Vickers of Enfield the construction of 1200 Mark III tanks. These machines will be immediatelly dispatched to France upon their manufacture. Any tanks we have spare from the Great War will also be sent. Within a few months, they will have a sizeable tank force.

Meanwhile, we will send ammunition and the thousands of spare Lee Enfields and field guns which we have left-over from the war to Sweden. I am taking this decision so that these weapons, which no longer suit a demobilised nation such as ours’, may be put to use defending our principles on the world scale.

Yours sincerely,

S. Baldwin.’

Baldwin has also entreatied Norway for a closer relationship between the two countries, pointing to the threat of Communism in Scandinavia. He first proposes reduced tariffs and closer links to the countries diplomatically. The talk is not of direct alliance, but it is thought to be a prelude to it.

-Britain manufactures 1200 more tanks and also sends any spare from the Great War to the 3rd French Republic.

-Britain sends hundreds of thousands of rifles and thousands of artillery guns to the Capitalist Swedish via Norway.

-Baldwin declares that the Entente must take a new role against Socialism.

-Baldwin entreaties Norway for a closer relationship with Britain.

“The Argentine Republic is a mighty nation, to be sure. Boasting one of the largest food exporting economies in the entire world, its’ neutrality in the Great War has allowed us to become one of the wealthiest countries in the entire world. Tragically, much of rural and lower-class Argentina will never see any benefit from this wealth, as most of it goes to the upper class, the wealthy. I denounce this, and, as your president, will continue to seek reform and reconciliation that allows for every Argentine man to achieve greatness, regardless of his status.”
Excerpt from the speech of President Yrigoyen, Aug. 15. 1916

Things indeed were going well for the nation. But there was still much work to be done. Just over 9 months into his reign of doing nothing much, biding his time, and solidifying his power and popularity, President Yrigoyen is ready to initiate his agenda. Firstly, he picks up his phone, prodding the dial for a few moments. It rings once, before a line on the other end picks up.
“Comenzar la operación Nécora.”
“Sí, señor Presidente.”

3 days later, the presidential cabinet had convened. Sitting in a wide office in the Casa Rojada, they sat with folded arms, listening to one General Enrique Mosconi receive orders from the President. Oil interests in the country need development, and rather than allow it to fall into the hands of the wealthy, it should be assured that the benefit from petroleum goes to the people. A state-run oil company is established, the YPF, with an 8 million peso startup grant, after which it is to be self dependent. General Mosconi is to be the head of this new department. This was a truly revolutionary project: the first state-run company in the entire world, the first realization of a growing socialist nation.

3 days after that, the president makes a major political move by publically meeting with leaders from the 2 major trade unions in Argentina: the Federación Obrera Regional Argentina IX and the FORA V, promising that the government will work more closely with the unions to build socialism and a united front against imperialism, and calling for mutual aid to protect workers rights. Once nicknamed “el poludo” (the hairy armadillo) for his his introverted character and aversion to public appearances, the president is overcoming this to deliver a major speech right after, calling for the remilitarization of Argentina, citing a growing imperialist threat domestically and worldwide, and the need more than ever to protect and arm the global proletariat to bring about democratic change and world peace.

Elsewhere, the growing socialist ideals are leading to some troubles. Beyond just some of the ultra wealthy clutching at their pearls, there is fear that the radical socialism spreading through the country might be becoming too radical. The most notable evidence of this is a new, increasingly popular youth movement. Juventud was Radical formed by anarchist students at the University of Buenos Aires, organizing strikes against perceived bourgeois and elitist policies. The movement is gaining smaller chapters in other cities, becoming a hotspot for anarchist and communist social activism.

Finally, at the behest of some prominent expatriate French Argentines as well as socialist groups, not least among them the Juventud Radical, the President agrees to arm and train volunteer soldiers, as many as will volunteer, to go to Caucasia, Sweden, and France, and aid them in their revolutionary struggle against imperialism. Additionally, Argentina will lend significant aid to other countries. Frozen beef, cereals, wheat, and other food exports are sent to Caucasia, France, and Sweden, and China to aid them in revolutionary struggle. Perhaps even more important, a shipment of 35,000 wool coats (10,000 to Caucasia and Sweden, 15,000 to China) is sent to Caucasia, China, and Sweden to help them against the bitter cold.

Actions:

  • Juventud Radical formed by anarchist students at the University of Buenos Aires, organizing strikes against perceived bourgeois and elitist policies. The movement gains smaller chapters in other cities, becoming a hotspot for anarchist and communist social activism.

  • President Yrigoyen publically meets with delegates from the 2 major trade unions to solidify ties between labor and the government

  • The Argentine Re-Armament begins, the Argentine army seeks new volunteers and begins training and equipping new troops as well as re-equipping old ones and mobilizing for war. Factories begin to pump out new guns and ships, especially the new Destroyer type ship.

  • The Argentine air force, in a pitiful state of affairs, is getting rehauled by new leadership. New planes are to be constructed, existing ones repaired, new air corps trained, etc.

  • President Yrigoyen appoints General Enrique Mosconi, a loyal general and close friend, to be the head of the newly created YPF.

  • Operation Nécora begins.

The Polish Army within the Russian Union would return home after seeing much service during the Russian Civil War. It was now a time to rebuild and modernise that which was in the homeland and get the men who had been fighting for such a long time back into work to have the Country become industrious and economically strong. Industrialisation, Agriculture and Education were seen as vital for the future of Poland

Domestic Economic Policy

It would be ordered that a mandatory education system be set up in Poland to begin educating the Polish youth in vital subjects so that they can go on to the workplace and make themselves useful to society. Emphasis on Polish Patriotism, Regionalism and teaching of the importance of the Russian Union would be part of the curriculum. (Mod)

With the aid of British Economists, Industrialists and advisers the Polish State would seek to formulate a four year economic plan so that Industrial Zones around the Cities and Large Towns can be instituted, vital agriculture can have production increased and see the needs of the people fed and preemptively assisting in the construction of a proposed Union Rail System so that Poland can be connected to other states in the Union. (Mod)

With the advise and help of foreign economic advisers, the Government would seek to identify key Polish industries that would help with the economic growth of the Country and attempt to further enrich the people to a standard of living shared by their counterparts in the West in time. (Mod)

Domestic Political Policy

An Election for the Polish State Assembly, the National Legislator would be scheduled for the year 1920, Józef Piłsudski would remain Prime Minister, Chief of State and Commander and Chief of the Armed Forces until stability had been achieved in the Economy and Political side of the State of Poland. (Mod)

A Constitution would be properly drafted that would ensure the political freedoms and rights of the Polish Citizens and would put in place limits and checks for both the Legislative and Executive Authority of the State of Poland, in keeping with the promises to the more moderate Socialists. It would limit the amount the Government could buy up Private Property also, attempting to ensure State intervention in such a manner in most dire circumstances. It would ensure workers rights no matter the circumstance be it working privately or publically. Lastly voting rights for men across the social classes is ensured. (Mod)

Lastly the Polish would begin setting up its own State Court System to ensure that the law can be enforced, contracts upheld and the Government remains lawful. (Mod)

Military Policy

In keeping with the Four Year Plan, it is announced up to 200,000 members of the Armed Forces will be released from service when there are ample jobs for them as they exit the armed Forces, until such a time the Army will remain at its size of 500,000 and salaries would be paid in full. (Mod)

The IX Corps

Charles Faucheux, a man of growing popularity and ingenuity. He had been present during the fall of Paris and the birth of the revolution. In late May, NLA command had made the decision to promote him to a position of Lieutenant General and place the IX ‘Pioneer’ Corps under his command. This was mostly a political decision, Charles had spent the last year since the fall of Paris touring the country, growing in popularity. Not giving him a position in the war effort would have politics backlash. Now it seems (High Command)’s decision has begun to pay off.

Upon his promotion, Faucheux began a rigorous examination of the Corp’s previous engagements. Comprised of veteran combat engineers some of whom even saw service in the Great War. The Corp had experience fighting both German and Loyalist foes, their use of improvised close quarters fighting, especially on the defensive to launch quick counter attacks was of great interest. Here, the beginnings of ‘Pioneer Tactics’ began to take shape. Over the course of the next months Faucheux would launch exercises to train the men in the beginnings of a new powerful offensive doctrine that could end the stalemates of the war.

______________________________________________________________________________

Besancon, Late 1917

Fighting raged all around the man, explosions erupted, splintering fortifications and sending his comrades flying. Maxim guns chattered, cutting down men on both sides like blades of grass. Suddenly he heard it, the familiar rumbling. From the dust and the smoke he sees them, Tanks, lumbering beasts rolling across the fortifications.

The man, a student of engineering himself had theorized how these awful machines of war might work since their first appearance. At least they were on his side then..

The tanks were drawing closer, some had been knocked out but they had to be stopped. He acted, quickly he produced the device he had conceived earlier for such a situation. As the tank drew nearer, he lit the rag and tossed the bottle. It lands perfectly on the grille of the tank, It continued forward for a few brief seconds before the engine sputtered and died. The device had worked.

Supreme Army Command

1917, a mixed bag of a year, though after the debut of ‘Pioneer tactics’ and tremendous gains in the north been it had been ruled general a success. However many issues plagued the French general staff. In the later months of the year, Republicans had been successful in small attacks on Riem, targeting the industry of the area. This alone threatened a majority of the Socialist heartlands, something had to be done. In the south, the Republicans had taken minor gains, besieging the city of Besancon, this was also an issue that had to be resolved.

(Pioneers from the IX ‘Vulcan’ Corps go over the top)

Further evaluations of the year had made several estimations. First, it was believed that the 4th French Republic lacked parity with their Republican counterparts in regards to both the armor and aviation departments. This made the Republic extremely vulnerable to Republican reconnaissance and bombing runs. In response to the latter of these issues, the French Government commissions the construction of numerous AA batteries. Due to the lack of proper Anti-Aircraft equipment, the batteries will use balloons with attached to cables to measure altitude beforehand.

Gzol2ytKazLMddRZaMGJOzlLmJj9ONnCH-RvNXmXfRZEHFNBgQSTj36HTWbIwQz1A_rflOZ5uo92G1sIKL5VUrvWEMdR9kKWYRu8Pi5DEUlrt8-y_pHDXfPnxSRGJ_z2HhFP6GYY

(French 75mm AA gun not far from Paris)

Additionally, the French government begins several competitions, a multitude of French companies are offered a large contract if they can develop a suitable armored vehicle for the N.L.A. Several criteria must be met however. The vehicle must not exceed 8 tons, have a power/weight ratio of 5hp/ton, be able to stand up to small-heavy arms fire, and fit a single 360 degree rotating turret that can carry a machine gun or heavier 37mm cannon.

The second contract pertains to aircraft. The need to control the airspaces over the republic is a priority. A contract is offered to any company that can produce a new design of faster and more nimble fighters designed for short range defensive operations.

______________________________________________________________________________

The National Liberation Army

The offensives of 1917 had seen major socialist gains as well as minor losses in the east. That's what the propaganda said at least. Socialist population centres were well informed of the army’s success, and encouraged to join up and support the revolution.

As action on the front slows down in the wake of both the offensives and the onset of winter, Engineer battalions get right to work; they repair vital infrastructure needed for supplying the front lines and oversee the construction of new, layered defensive lines.

______________________________________________________________________________

The Olive Branch

The war has raged for now 4 grueling years. The country of France has gained nothing but death and destruction. After the overwhelming success of the summer offensive. The 4th Republic, the more legitimate of the two once more extends the olive branch to the Republicans. A meeting to discuss to possibility of peace at Verdun is suggested. It is made well known to both the Republican troops and the Republican homefront that the 4th Republic is open to the possibility of peace, an end to the fighting, the bleeding, the dying.

______________________________________________________________________________

Actions

New ‘Pioneer’ tactics are introduced into the army, most prevalently in the IX ‘Vulcan’ Corps. Small amounts of officers from the rest of the NLA trained as instructors so they can form other Pioneer battalions throughout the rest of the army.

Printed instructions for the construction and use of ‘Poincaire Cocktail’ is distributed throughout the NLA.

AA batteries are commissioned in key industrial areas to deter Republican bombing.

Contracts for the design and production of an armored fighting vehicle or ‘tank’ as well as a contract for the design and production of lighter, faster, and shorter range fighter is offered to any French company.

Massive efforts are undertaken to improve the N.L.A’s supply lines in conquered areas as well as improve their defenses with layered lines.

An offer to discuss peace is extended to the 3rd French Republic in Verdun. In addition, pamphlets and leaflets are spread across the 3rd Republic making the civilians well aware of this offer.

El difunto presidente en su despacho.

The late president Carranzo at his desk, weeks before he died of a Heart attack walking up the steps of the Palais Nationale. The President's health had been ailing for some time before the sudden heart attack, and plans for such an eventuality had been made. The succession from Carranzo to Zapata was a painless affair, as upon his death a snap election was called. Zapata’s Nacional Agrarista won in in many of the Northern states, and unexpectedly swept many of the Industrial Southern states. Much was made of his military legacy and heroism, his fame in the Revolution carrying the party to victory.

Secretaria general Zapata.

As the chief of state was being laid to rest, the Secretary General of Mexico was sworn in - The Native born Emiliano Zapata Salazar. Born in Morelos state in 1879, he lived among the sugar plantations, his community suffering at the hands of the plantation monopolies. He became political at an early age, and revolutionary soon after. In 1910, he, along with the other Revolutionary heroes overthrew the Diaz Regime, and made a very successful career in the State department, overseeing the land reform that the nation so critically needed. Although Zapata and Carranza had profound disagreements - the Late president sympathizing with the Diaz Regime’s Oligarchs, whereas Zapata sympathizing with the country Mestizos and Indios - The two were able to work side by side to improve the country.

Zapata’s party is that of the Partido Nacional Agrarista, a country folk party for the farmers and non-urban dwellers of La Federacion, but much of Carranza’s support came from the Partido Mexicano de los Trabajadores, the Urban party of the Industrial worker. Although outnumbered by the Agrarian Mexicano, the inherited political structure from the Revolution still set most of the economic and political power in their hands, representing the businesses - and wealth - of the nation. In order to bridge this gap, Zapata has been rumoured to have been working on the framework of an entirely new party for Mexico, the Partido Laborista Mexicano. More will be announced as time moves on.

Zapata's immediate plans so far as he has announced are to improve on and attempt to fix many of the lingering problems of the revolution - the damaged infrastructure, the American dominance over Mexican business, the economic depression, and the chaotic state of the military. One of his first acts has been to implement a plan that was designed under the Carranza government - a redesign of the economic states of Mexico, now numbering thirteen. Questions about plans for reforming the Electoral states have been asked of the new government, but have received no answers yet.

Many of the fresh state appointees are very recognizable names, the two most notable being that of Villa and Patino - the Revolutionary Soldiers who worked feats of immense genius during the war.

FGd1kaV5sUxnb9UaXFnXsXNkxMnpRpaF3gvgd9fddAy5RuMyKHyQFvNS8G77YkuxRM1Mhs84V-uGuw3ECLH1EEOHIMLGkE5wUhPih79DpscQwlUiTMLv8n_3VcAaEtp0MNA2lGg2

General Rutilo Patino

Rutilo and Villa’s appointments to the military are surprising, and a definite upset to the doctrine of the day. Both served in the Revolutionary war as Guerillas, and have built their tactics around that of the ambush and hit-and-run. The Carranza Generals are grousing, but the popularity - and track record of the pair speak for themselves. Many young Mexicans have found an interest in joining the forces led by such august figures, instead of impersonal generals from Mexico city.

OOC SUMMARY

Emiliano Zapata and the Partido Nacional Agrarista take power in Mexico over the death of Carranza and the Partido Mexicano de los Trabajadores.

Zapata attempts to form a cohesive unity government and restructure his party to better appeal to all Mexicans.

Economic District reforms are put in place.

Pancho Villa and Rutilo Patino are employed in the Defense department as Generals.

Zapata’s cabinet audits the previous government as much as they can, and audits the country to gain as much information as they can before moving forward.

Vive la Mexico !

The Provisional Government of Sverige at Stockholm

1917-

First came a declaration--one condemning the failures of the Swedish Crown to protect its own people in the face of protecting the Crown’s interest in the ongoing Great War. Then, the growth of the movement. As many of the people, particularly laborers and farmers in the South, who generally kept the Swedish economy afloat in this time of neutrality, began to finally feel it. Imports failed to flow inwards, and the Swedish economy didn’t have domestic capabilities to replace it. The entirety of the country became impoverished--besides, of course, the Monarchy and their closest allies.

Gunnar Nykvist, a long argued defender of the people, and Swedish Chief of Navy, faced his removal and further conspiracy against him as tensions between the movement and the monarchy boiled early in 1917. However, he’d overplayed his hand. As Monarchist powers sought to eradicate him, it would put the Socialists in a tricky position: seize the opportunity, one which many movements in many countries might never have, or, pass on the chance, lose the widespread support of the entire Navy which they had then had, or ride it out with the political power gained until they could bide their time for a mutinous army in the face of starving families. But as the war ended, the Socialists had to seize the gap. The Navy began flying a new flag, workers got their rifles, and party members seized supplies, support, and the capital at Stockholm.

Months would pass, and war would break out. Nykvist, now appointed Interim Secretary General, ordered his navy to blockade the Loyalist Forces, as he began to starve them out, using his control of the South and the Waterways. After a brief period of time stuck with a contested zone, rough borders, and questionable diplomacy, it seemed Nykvist finally had the government and military in the stable position he’d long known would be necessary for victory. Reaching this position of stability, several new policies developed:

  • Men begin to entrench in their current positions. (Mod)
  • A blockade of all goods entering Monarchist Sweden is enforced. This includes all Swedish ports, as well as Finnish roadways into Sweden in the South. Military goods stopped at the borders are seized. (Mod)
  • Luxury, foreign goods swell into Sweden from Argentina and Mexico, along with food at levels not seen in years. The goods are quickly dispersed to the impoverished people and starving troops. (mod)
  • A recruitment drive begins,  and the Provisional government begins reorganizing citizenship in its territories. Military service is named mandatory for all citizens aged 18-24, with women serving non-combatant roles. (mod)
  • A propoganda operation begins. All loyalists, particularly soldiers, are dropped fliers, offering clemency, food, and safety to surrender to the Socialists. Additionally, with total naval control, offers are made to workers and Socialist in the north that they will receive full support and several thousand soldiers, along with food and supplies, should any cities successfully rise up and flip to the Socialist cause. (mod).
  • Operation: Swedish Fish commences (mod).

It is time to industrialize the south, foreign investors are invited to a Summit in August, it offers large companies severely reduced costs for land and no employee income taxation for 10 years upon the start up of the factory. This should greatly encourage investors into starting factories there, additionally, French labourers will work for much cheaper due to the war.

Military

Incorporating armor in assaults has proven to be more than effective. Their mobility, tough armor, and heavy armament makes the infantryman’s job a hell lot easier. Philippe Petain discusses this with his fellow comrades at Bordeaux earlier today, suggesting new ways in which warfare itself can be fought. A lesson learned from The Great War, the world is changing faster than we know it and the winner is he who adapts quicker and better. Change in doctrine is followed by a contract, issued to the Renault vehicle company. The requirements are that the tank has a reliable, powerful engine, and rotatable turret, along with a coaxial machine gun, built into the hull of the tank where the machine gunner may fire whilst protected.Image result for renault b1 blueprints

Philippe Petain has no doubt heard of the terrible defeat that the army has sustained in the North. All progress made in the past years was lost. The men mostly suffered from low morale which he believes, greatly affected their combat capacity. Along with him, he has brought trucks filled with dried meat and cheese.

Early 1917
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

White House, Washington DC, July 7th, 1917

General Pershing, accompanied by various other members of the American general staff were having a meeting with President Charles Evans Hughes, they were discussing the improvement and modernization of the army as a part of the Four Year Plan. Some men that weren’t invited, nor liked the plans they were making, were the Democrats.

“It must be nice, it must be nice… To have the generals on your side..” Thomas Marshall mumbled as he, Woodrow Wilson, James Cox, Franklin Roosevelt and some others silently observed the meeting from the second dining room in the government building, eyeing them through the glass doors. “It must be nice… To have the generals on your side..” He mumbled again. Wilson frowned deeply. “Every action has its equal opposite reactions. Thanks to Hughes our party’s fractured into factions.. We try not to crack under the stress but we’re breaking down like fractions… We smack each other in the press, and we don’t print retractions...” Cox nodded “I get no satisfaction witnessing his fits of passion. The way he primps and preens and dresses like the pits of fashion.” Roosevelt would add “Our poorest citizens, our farmers, live ration to ration. As Wall Street robs ‘em blind in search of chips to cash in.” Wilson stood up “This prick is asking for someone to bring him to task, somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him. I’ll pull the trigger on him, someone load the gun and cock it! While we were all watching he’s got the military in his pocket..” The generals and the republicans stood up, shaked hands and left the building. Thomas Marshall shook his head “If we don’t stop him we aid and abet it.” “I’ll have to resign..” Wilson sighed. “Somebody has to stand up for the south.” Cox frowned. “Well somebody has to stand up to his mouth..” Roosevelt rolled his eyes. “If there’s a fire you’re trying to douse...” Wilson started saying before Marshall joined in “...you can’t put it out from inside the house.” Roosevelt sighed and nodded. “We’re in the cabinet, we are complicin’ it, watchin’ him grabbing the power and kissin’ it. If Hughes isn’t gon’ listen to disciplined dissidents this is the difference: this man is out!”

London, Greater London, Great Britain, July 22nd, 1917
White House, Washington DC, U.S., July 22nd, 1917

During the Great War, the British Empire and the United States had worked together in developing tanks, leading to the America-made Mark I tank. Towards the end of the war, the British had come with an improved model, the Mark II. Now, the two powers had signed a treaty to continue their joint effort, starting the Anglo-American Tank Programme. This meant the United States would get the license to produce and replace the Mark I tanks with Mark II’s and the development process would be split between the two nations with the Americans focusing on cruiser tanks.

USDA Head Office, Washington DC, August 3rd, 1917
Agricultural University of Lincoln, Lincoln, New Hanover, August 8th, 1917

As a part of President Evans Hughes’ Four Year Plan, the American agricultural sector was to get a lot of attention. In the first step of this process, the United States Department of Agriculture gives Ford & Son motors a multi-million dollar subsidy for the increased production and lower buying cost of the new Fordson tractor. This subsidy would be spread out over the course of the four-year period and would ensure that even farmers who didn’t have an awful lot to spend, could afford to buy a Fordson tractor for use at their farms and ranches. The other part of this first step of Hughes’ agricultural programme, was the Agricultural University of Lincoln, which was to be founded in Lincoln, New Hanover, and would focus solely on agriculture and biology related studies, providing them for a reasonable price. This was to ensure that sons of more well-off farmers could come study here in Lincoln to expand their knowledge of the details of working in the agricultural sector and thus improve their farms’ productivity in the future. It’d also provide a place for experts to work on further developing farming technology and techniques, like what machinery or fertilizer to use, or experimenting with better food for livestock. Synthetic fertilizer would be a hot topic at the moment.

Fort Benning, Columbus, Georgia, September 11th, 1917

During the massive mobilization effort that the United States started during the Great War, Fort Benning in Georgia, which was previously just a minor military camp, was expanded a lot as new recruits were coming in every day. Now the mobilization had slowed down, but the army was not simply going to discharge these new men from service. Thus, Fort Benning with it’s massive amount of military personnel present, was to be changed into a more permanent base. The Department of Defense is given a 1 million dollar fund for rebuilding Camp Benning into a larger base with more barracks, room for bigger training fields, a tank garage, storage units for equipment, expansion of the Infantry School and room for the Tank School from Camp Polk to be moved to Camp Benning. Military refinement was on the rise.

Various secret locations, Federal land, America, October 10th, 1917

As a part of the military refinement programme of the Four Year Plan, not only were places like Fort Benning to be improved, in a meeting with the U.S. Army’s general staff, President Evans Hughes and namely General Pershing has planned for various so called Combat Simulation Zones or CSZ’s to be built around the United States. In these zones, soldiers who had already received training and were ready to become professionals, would fight battles against one another, with loose flodders coming out of their guns, rather than actual bullets of course. Objectives for capture points and the likes would be the missions they’d fight, but these places were mainly for giving them a sense of the physical toll of hours on end of action without breaks in some of the most challenging environments. Indeed, challenging environments, these CSZ’s weren’t to be built in a simple field, they were built in places like southern Arizona, Alaska, the Rockies in Idaho, the Everglades in Florida and the American islands in the Pacific. Officers would make sure the soldiers would not be slacking during these missions, they had to experience the exhaustion of battle and get used to fighting in it.

American Engineering Association, New York City, New York, October 28th, 1917

As the Domestic equivalent of the US Army Engineers corps, the American Engineering Association is founded with it’s main office in Lower Manhattan. With American inventor Nikola Tesla appointed as it’s head, the AEA is to ensure American science progresses steadily into the right direction. The extensive domestic use of blimps, domestic radio use were some of it’s main development focuses, as well as refinement of technologies such as the refrigerator or washing machine, so that these too could be used on a broader scale. The AEA was also tasked with researching electrics and experimenting with these, Tesla’s forté. The AEA is established as a semi-autonomous organization of the US government, meaning they can be called upon to work on various tasks, but in general they’re free to let their experimental minds run wild, backed by funds of both the government and anyone willing to invest in the AEA.
