A Burning World

Leo the Thracian appointed Julius Nepos, his nephew and governor of Dalmatia, ruler of the Western Roman Empire in opposition to Glycerius. Julius quickly rode off to Ravenna and depose Glycerius. He now stood at the capital in the purple, ready to make the western half anew or will he fail?

After the death of Leo the Thracian, The Senate of the east elected Leo II as Emperor. His father Zeno was appointed to rule as co-emperor. Before their reign even started, Leo died, possibly after being poisoned by his own mother Ariadne, who became Empress, and Zeno the Emperor. He still faces threats from the north and the east, will he succeed or will he perish?

In Gaul a Roman king inherited his father’s domain and sought to keep the Roman way alive in gaul, Syagrius has enemies on all sides and will need to strengthen his position as a Roman Rump State to a full fledged Kingdom or will he decide to bow to the Emperor again?

Far to the east lays the Sassanid Empire, the Persian Empire of this age. Will it clash again with it’s rival the Eastern Empire, or will it thrive the other way? Will it subdue all the minor nations around it?

And so are there many other countries that are to be played in this scheme, will you make Rome burn, or help it prosper once more as their ally.

Ravenna, capital of the West, 474

The room was quiet, at its center a large table with maps and figures spread across it. Julius Nepos, Emperor of the West, poured over the map. Several of his advisors surrounded the table alongside him. “The situation is grim Emperor, what’s left of our legions are spread thin. Barbarians are at the gates. The west is doomed.” Uttered Orestes, one of the few remaining Generals at Julius’s disposal. “All will be resolved my dear friend, rally what remains of the Auxilia & march north. Drill the men, fortify the borders & prepare for any & all barbarian incursions.” Orestes offered a quick nod before exiting the room.

The rest of the council remained in deep discussion deep into the night. For hours they debated the best possible course of action for the remainder of the Empire. Finally, a conclusion was reached and a list of directives was established. Edicts were drafted, orders distributed, tasks were assigned and Imperial cogs turned.

Thuringii

Year: 474
The men and women of the Thuringii are a tough breed.  Once upon a time they had been ruled by the Huns, forced to fight as their vassals in wars against the Romans.  But that time has ended by the grace of Woden and the Nailed God, and the Thuringii hold an empire of their
own, and stand poised to fight not for the good of another, but for their own people.

In this endeavour they are led by Bisinus, a cunning and clever leader known for his generosity among his retainers.  Many halls have been sprung up throughout his lands in his name, and his people rejoice for such a benevolent ruler.

With a weakened Rome to the south, the Thuringii stand poised to hold the reins for the course of history.  Whether or not they assault Rome itself is up to the will of the King, but nonetheless without Roman intervention, surely he could unite the fractured German peoples and bring forth a new empire…

King Genseric and his advisors sat discussing the best next move. Genseric and his men had carved out a kingdom for which they could finally settle down in. But for Genseric this was not enough, he was out for a far more. All of north Africa would fall to him. But to Genserics displeasure Rome had to be allied. He had spent his entire life fighting Rome with the goal to bring it to its knees. Which is accomplished and now in his old age he had no interest of losing all his life’s work so  begrudgingly sent an offer to Rome. On top of this the Vandal army needed far more men if it would successfully expand its Kingdom so the existing army went town to town conscripting new men for their ranks.(15k men are raised)

March on Rome

With the legions raised and the changing of the seasons, Julius Nepos I performs an act of political daring. On the first of the September the gates of Rome are sealed and senatorial assets are seized. Those deemed ‘Unruly & disloyal’ are arrested, many now vacant seats of the senate are replaced with more, compliant individuals. This is to occur not only to allow the Emperor to more easily enact his will, but to rid the West of corruption on the senatorial level.  As to not disturb the public order after the Emperor has finished his, march a great celebration is hosted in the Colosseum, non essential food supplies are to be used to host a great feast for the people of Rome.

Message for The Vandals

As word of the Vandal request reaches the Emperor’s ears, a set of demand are compiled and returned to the Vandalic leadership. The Imperial conditions are as follows, in exchange for a military alliance the Kingdom of the Vandals will cede the following areas to Roman control. Sicily, Sardinia, & Corsica
