For the first time in 1380, the King of Klagenfurt has left not only a sole heir, but one that is not of age to rule the kingdom. As the Kingdom follows a strict rule of male inheritance, the late King Antonio III Di Scema has left his court to rule the realm. The Court, consisting of the nine Dukes of the realm, rule along with the Queen-regent in the crown’s name until 5 year-old Thomas II Di Scema will be fit to rule at the age of sixteen.

The Kingdom of Klagenfurt was founded in 1157 by Prince Rupert of Styria when he invaded the region with his legendary Knights of 200, though Klagenfurt’s historians debate whether this number is accurate. Prince Rupert founded the city of Klagenfurt, declaring it the capital of his realm. Since then, the kingdom has grown two-fold in the east under the kings Rupert II who conquered past the River Selle, and Antonio I who conquered the Oryol Forest. While the kings were conquering the eastern lands, the Styrian clergy had moved in and erected a grand citadel, as is religious tradition, declaring the land subject to God.

During the early days of the Kingdom, aristocrats and generals from Styria were invited to rule the land. The impact on the local culture was significant in the fertile west with many adopting Styrian customs, and the Styrian language becoming that of the aristocracy. However in the eastern highlands the influence was far lesser as local cultures had been more detached from those of the west. In the recent years, the influence has grown, and all nobles across Klagenfurt have adopted Styrian culture.

Only four years ago, in 1376 did the Great Plague ravage the country, still lingering in the fringes of the western lands. Over 800 000 people died from the outbreak, mostly in the eastern lands. Many formerly sprawling urban centres reduced to mere villages after their population was indiscriminately slaughtered by diseases. Thousands of aristocrats died, leaving their land unowned, and serfs free to flee for the cities. The former King Antonio III Di Scema was amongst those who died after only a week since falling ill along with his five brothers, leaving only his wife and son to his name.

History

The History of the isle of Koper, or Morea, which is the name the natives have called it for generations, is one not shrouded in darkness. In a different age and time, Koperians dominated the Sea of Balaton and goods arrived in port from even the farthest regions of Klagenfurt. The Crunuluggia de Morea, the most famous literary work in Morea, recants the History of the Moreans.

According to the Crunuluggia de Morea, or Chronicle of Morea, written by ancient scholars, has it recorded that thousands of years ago there existed 7 tribes on the island. The Tivorpi lived in the east and were fishermen people, dedicating themselves to reaping the wealths of the seas and living in peace. Their King was a man simple man, however stupid and engaged in savageness and enthralled with brutish customs. The Tivorpi were constantly subjugated to pillaging and raping by the powerful Herari Mountain men, whom would descend from the peaks in the winter when their food stores were depleted and ravage the lands, leaving destruction in their path. The Herari were born and bred warriors, their long pointed sticks which they called the Dory, being their weapon of choice. The Tivorpi were the first victim of the Herari, and formed the bulk of their ranks, which is why the scholars stressed their importance. Another tribe, called the Moreans, lived in together, in clay houses built from the ground, which was different from the common custom of tents and wooden houses which was the status quo of the region. These were sea people, and their boats are legendary for being indestructible. Another tribe, who thought of themselves as cousins of the Moreans, lived in a fortified city, and called themselves the Banelos. The Banelos were master builders, and they used a stone which the Herari called, the ‘Devil rock’. The rest of the tribes accounts were either burned by the Herari, or were conquered by them. In fact, by a couple hundreds years time, the entire island was subjugated by the Herari, except the Moreans and the Banelos, whom had become closely related in terms of culture and traditions. In the year when the Morean chief died, the Herari attacked the Morean settlements, and famously, a local Goddess appeared to the Banelos, and warned them of the impending Herari attack, and the Banelo-Moreans were able to heroically transport the majority of the Moreans to Banea, the famous city of the Baneleans. To transport the Moreans, the Baleleans used hastily constructed Morean ships built by hands of the Baneans. During the Escape of the Moreans, a great battle took place as 1000 Banelo-Moreans famously Held back an entire Herari horde as most of the Morean families were departing from the beaches. These 1000 men are said to have fought with such bravery and pride that they have become instilled in Morean culture, being forever known as the ‘Heroes of Morea.’ When the Moreans arrived at Banea, they were much more numerous than the Baneleans, however, they themselves assimilated into the culture of the Baneleans, adopting their customs and traditions, as well as their architecture and famous artistic methods. The City of Banea, as it grew to be known, remained a Citadel that the Herari could never seize, despite controlling the entire island. Banea, in this time period, grew in wealth as it began trading with lands across the straits, gaining a vast reputation in the Herari for having an abundance in ‘gems, words, and stone.’ as one Herari put it. For hundreds of years, the eternal dream of all Herari had been to take Banea. Tens of times the Herari have tried to breach the thick walls of Banea, but none of them succeeded. The Morean  had become too good of builders, and despite almost constantly having an Army posted outside the Iron gates of Banea, the Herari could not enter. Morean Archers became known among the Herari as being able to shoot a acorn from a league away. However, this tension did not remain for long, and the Decades long standoff culminated in a massive siege carried out by almost 10,000 Herari against only 1000 Moreans inside Banea. For a month, the siege endured, the Herari using everything in their power to besiege the walls. They attempted to scale the walls, but they were repulsed. They attempted to burn the town, but stone does not burn. The siege was finally broken when the Morean forces inside the walls split up, with half staying inside the walls defending the city, and half mounting on their famous ships and sailing a couple hundred leagues up coast, before disembarking and marching to attack the Herari from the rear of their men, and the plan, formulated by the legendary King Vestru Eradi, was a stunning success. The Herari, being accustomed to centuries of being on the upper hand of battles, were pressed into a pinch, and were routed. Here and for years after this, the Butchering of the Herari occured, where 500 Moreans slaughtered roughly 20,000 Herari from across the Island were mercilessly killed, in a series of campaigns initiated by the Moreans to retake the Island. And in less than 20 years, under the Great Vestru Eradi, the entire island was now under Morean dominion.

This period is called the Golden Age of Morea. As Moreans colonised the rest of the island,  the people whom had for centuries lived under Herari rule were subjugated and assimilated into Morean society as Morean colonists intermarried with Heraris. During this period, Moreans spread their traditions throughout the island. Centuries and age old bridges, walls, roads, and government buildings all of which were built by the Eradi dynasty still remain today, hundreds and hundreds of years after the fall of the Eradi. The Port of Banea, which had become a massive trading center, was always full with hundreds of Morean ships, called a yatte. Yattes dominated the Sea of Balaton at one point, even colonising some areas of the coast adjacent to the island, which is why ruins can be found in the distinct Morean architectural style.

The Golden Age of the Eradi fell soon after, and the Island of Morea, despite its vast wealth, again retreated into the darkness as sickness, famine, and civil disputes plagued the islands for a hundred years, before the Styrians, whom had assumed control of the mainlands, invaded Morea, and through stiff resistance, assumed control of the Island. The Styrians  brought superior siege technology, such as catapults, rams, and trebuchets, technologies which the Moreans never encountered before, and technology which Morean Stone was not indestructible to, as it had been to the Herari eons before. Still however, the Styrians experienced trouble subjugating the island. A massive Naval Battle took place, where the Styrian fleet destroyed the entire Morean fleet assembled, the first time in history where all the local rulers united and all contributed their fleet. This defeat rendered Yattes obsolete for warfare by the eyes of the Morean aristocracy, and were gradually reduced to a trade vessel in the following ages. Once the Moreans lost control of the seas, the Island fell soon after. The Avesgraff family lead the conquest of the island, and after they defeated the Moreans, they were crowned Dukes of Koper, which was the new name given to the island by the Styrians. The Avesgraff family, while they introduced a massive cultural wave of Styrian customs into the island, were influenced heavily by Morean customs aswell, as their surname was changed to the more Morean sounding Amaveza after the benevolence and tolerance that many of their rulers had displayed towards the Moreans, something which had earned the Amaveza family much love and respect amongst Moreans. As a result of this, the Amaveza family has earned some chastisement from mainland Ducal Families for reputadley, ‘forgetting their blood’. The Amaveza family continued the long standing Morean architectural traditions, building large cathedrals and castles in a matter retaining both Styrian and Morean elements, forming a distinct Styro-Morean architectural style, which was integral to the conversion of Moreans to the faith and the assimilation of many Moreans into Styrian culture. This style remains overwhelmingly Morean however, with Styrian elements being more prevalent in the incorporation of circular towers and keeps. However it is much more prevalent in the interior design of large elegant buildings. Mosiacs, for example, a distinctly Morean tradition, now depict Styrian stories and cultures, a prime example of the fusion that has arisen between the two distinct cultures.

Despite the tolerance of the Amaveza family, ages of Styrian rule has caused drastic changes in Morean culture. The Morean language, now has had heavy Styrian influence after ages of Styrian rule. A significant language divide has arisen as a result of the Styrians. In the urban cities such as Banea, Styrian is used commonly, however there has been a creole of sorts developing, and the Styrian Language is being mixed with the language of the native Moreans. In the countryside however, many isolated families speak a variation of Morean very similar to their ancestors. This phenomenon is seen more in the mountains and hills and in the underdeveloped east of the island. However, this variant has still had significant Styrian influence and is distinct from the language of the Ancient Moreans under the Eradi.

Banea

Banea was once a magnificent city, however, it has fallen into much decay. There are many ruins to be seen throughout the city, many old temples and palaces which the only evidence of their existence are a lone column or several blocks askew the ground, a reminiscent memory of a better time. There lies an overall yellowish tinge to the entire city,a testament to its ancient age, and the city is, most of the time, full of ships entering and leaving the harbor and traders selling their goods. The city itself has many canals that run through it, making small boats, or Yattes, a favourable method of transport across the city. The famous walls of Banea, which have fallen into mis management and have several wide gaps, encompass the entirety of the old city, which includes the port, the old city, and the markets. The walls are connected to the citadel, which are built into a elevated hilly plateau  which dominates the skyline of Banea. The Citadel houses the Palace of the Dukes of Koper, and it has fallen only once since the times of Ancient Morea, and it is when the Morean Dukes surrendered to the Styrians to save Banea from destruction by the Stryrians. The palace itself is simply built on the exterior, however on the interior it encompasses natural aspects such as: natural light, water from fountains, and green spaces in its architecture. Several Styrian additions can be found however, such as the addition of several towers, and a moat, which is engrained in Styrian tradition. Inside the capitol, some key sights can be the Obelisk to Victory, which is a Ancient Morean pole commemorating their victory against the Herari. Several statues lay around the capitol, depicting elegantly the magnificence of the Eradi dynasty. Many of these statues however are in ruin, and are barely reminiscent of their original persona. Possibly the most recognizable landmark is the Cathedral of Banea, a massive church with several domes, the highest one being level with the ground of the Citadel. The outside of the Cathedral is adorned with hundreds of small statues and figures of important Morean, Styrian, and religious figures and symbols. The Cathedral was built in the  Styro-Morean style, and inside, hundreds upon hundreds of religious Mosaics can be seen adorning the Dome of the Cathedral, displaying icons and venerations of the Faith. It is said that at 3 o clock, the entire Cathedral is lit up with light reflecting off the Mosaics. Half of the gold and gems from ancient Moreas coffers were used to adorn the churches altar and icons, some mosaics being made from pure gold and gems.

DUKE HECTOR III OF AMAVEZA

Hector the III is the current Duke of Amaveza. He is regarded by much as a poor Duke, but he is known for being the most conservative of the Amaveza Dukes when it comes to retaining Styrian customs and traditions. It has been said by Court Servants that Hector has not uttered once a word in Morean, and is always seen dressed like a Styrian, and acting as one. He is an incompetent military leader, and an incompetent ruler. Banea is seen by many, to be in the worst state it has been in years--except for the Port. Hector’s connections and ties to the mainland, as well as his knowledge in trade and economics has caused activity in the port to increase massively, however the revenue does not return back to the city or the isle, but to the palace and the pockets of the Royal Family. The Duke has taken to lucratively adorn the interior of the Citadel with luxurious ornaments and regalia. His wife, Elena hails from the capitol and was birthed to a high standing military family related to the king. The crown prince, Amadeo  is often times seen at his family estate in the east with his own family, and does not share amicable relations with his father, whom Amadeo has reffered to as ‘tyrannical’. Amadeo has abused his isolation in the east to learn about traditional Morean customs, and has passed this trait on to his family, especially his wife who has grown much like Amadeo despite being from the mainland. There exists a rift in the family, between Hector, and Amadeo, whether to forget their Styrian Heritage or to replace it. Styrian or not, the Amaveza family is influential throughout the mainland.

Dutchy of Arintar

Coat_of_Arms_Lithuania.gif

History

The Duchy of Arintar has existed in some form since at least the late 9th century and is considered to be the most illustrious of the Nine Duchies in the Kingdom of Klagenfurt. Originally, under the Tyzenhaus family, the entire region was called not the Kingdom of Klagenfurt, but instead the Kingdom of Arintar as a testament to the Conquerer-Kings of old Arintar who conquered the fertile valley and founded the capital, Colonia.

Legend has it that the first member of the Tyzenhaus family clan was a distant noble hailing from further north, arriving in the strange land that would soon be his domain with one hundred heavily armoured knights. His name was Leopold Tyzenhaus, “The Conqueror”. Starting off in the north, he would make his way south demanding tribute and subjugation of every village along his path, burning those who opposed him. Eventually he would stop after weeks of looting and fighting at the spot of Colonia. There he would equitably distribute his lands amongst his knights and feast for the entirety of the harvest season. The following year he would start construction of his magnificent castle and his loyal retinue would start construction of their own at various parts around the river, dividing their farmlands with large wooden towers seen to this day.

The following decades Leopold, “The Conqueror”, would tear down the local petty kings with their large peasant levies and light cavalry with his massed knights, growing to nearly two thousand foreign knights by the end of his reign, with more men coming down to his Kingdom of plenty from the north every year. By the time of his grandson’s death in the 10th century, his grandson Antonio Tyzenhaus, had grown his domain to reach from the Northern Durrus all the way to the river Selle.

The following years brought trouble to the dynasty. Years of administrative stagnation and several reoccurring plagues robbed the region of much of it’s wealth and a nearly successful peasant revolt almost breached the walls of Colonia. A Morrean colony even managed to crop up along the delta and secure favourable trading rights with the Kingdom of Arintar, further crippling the Kingdom.

During this time the court culture diverged from it’s northern culture as nobility from the eastern forests and southern Durrus intermarried with the Arintari and the previous nobility of the delta region were restored titles. The Knights of the Arintari would develop unique “Antler” charge formations and they would come to wear long and pointy blades on their backs in the shape of shining, golden stars. Even the old Catholic religion was beginning to wane under assault from the traditional religion of the Peninsula. One hundred years after the troubled times for the Kingdom and right before the coming of the rightful King, Prince Rupert, the Arintari Kingdom was at it’s height. Under King Jean Tyzenhaus the realm boasted five thousand “Bladed Knights”, ten thousand lighter cavalry, sixty thousand spear and bow levy, numerous siege machines, and hundreds of castles.

The coming of Prince Rupert was a shock to the ruling Arintari family, now considering itself to be a local Kingdom with local routes and traditions. King Jean mustered his massive force against the Styrian invaders. Assembling along the Tiber pass after hearing news of a massive coming army, the grand army positioned itself wide along the mountain pass, with tens of thousands of peasants armed with slingshots and crude weaponry jeering the coming Styrians.

The Great Battle of the Tiber was a week long affair. Both sides, composed of similar armies, at least forty thousand men on each side faced off daily in a large melee where cavalry would charge the field. On the seventh day, in the rain, the Arintari army would camp, thinking it too rainy for any large fighting that muddy spring day, but alas it was not so. The Styrian army under Prince Rupert would assemble and charge, forcing the Arintari to reply in kind. Finally, once all of the Arintari cavalry was committed including King Jean himself, half the Styrian knights under Prince Rupert would sneak along a hidden mountain pass and slam into the mass of peasant levy, leading to a general route. In the chaos, King Jean would be killed and so would the vast majority of the Arintari nobility.

In the year following the successor, King Jean II would raise the remaining forces that his father decided not to bring, but alas King Jean II’s Bannerman would desert him and Colonia would come under siege in a rapid advance by Prince Rupert. In order to spare the city, King Jean II bent the knee to Prince Rupert. For his father’s defiance, King Jean II was reduced to owning only the Hinterlands around Colonia, rather than his once great Kingdom.

Ever since then Colonia has prospered and maintained it’s status as the largest city in the new Kingdom, slightly winning out over Klagenfurt. King Jean II married Prince Rupert’s daughter five years exactly after the battle and ever since the Duchy of Arintar have been the King’s strongest Bannerman. Even so, with only a boy on the throne of Klagenfurt after a frightful plague, the Duchy has grown restless once again.

Colonia

77332207-germany-medieval-bird-eye-panor

Colonia is the largest city in Klagenfurt and a testament to the wealth of the region around it. The city is home to a marketplace with capacity for sixty thousand people, several cathedrals and a large keep in the centre. The docks are filled to the brim with boats coming and leaving and going, and the city is surrounded by large walls, not the largest in Klagenfurt, but definitely enough to keep the city safe for years on end. The city is home to one university of some reputation and the Tyzenhaus family crypts.

Every day between dawn and dusk the city is alive with farmers coming from all around to sell their goods in the grand city. Perhaps the greatest monument to the city’s greatness is the large privy council building located by the keep and protected by a second set of walls like the keep, even maintaining an overland bridge to the Duke’s own office. The council building consists of massive gold-rimmed chairs once made for the Dukes of Arintar. Outside of the council chamber lies the numerous trade guilds, smiths, fletchers, and more and is the beating heart of industry for hundreds of kilometres around.

To the outskirts of the city lies a massive stable, the Duke’s stable, one of the largest in Klagenfurt it contains the Duke’s stallions and a place for tourneys to be held where the knights of the Kingdom can meet and Arintar can maintain it’s most prized corps of bladed knights.

Colonia is truly the prized jewel of the central valley.

Jean III

Jean III is the current head of the Tyzenhaus family. He is a dashing young knight known to have won a recent tourney held in Colonia. The fortunes of his family, even after the most recent plague, seem to be doing fine. He is a Styrian Duke proud and true and considered most pious. He is however, yet to make his mark on this world and has so far spent his reign throwing lavish tourneys and travelling to Klagenfurt when the King demands it.

Jean III has married the daughter to the Count of Havron, the Count whose castle rests on a small tributary to the Selle and whose mines produce most of the steel to be made into horse shoes and sickles further south. This man is the richest Count in Arintar. With Havron’s daughter Jean III has had one son and one daughter. The son is being trained and taught in Colonia’s university while also spending a fair amount per week practicing riding and combat in the royal stables. The daughter focus herself on etiquette and administration in Colonia University, additionally they are both renowned for their horse racing. The Duke, while eager to further his family’s loyal reputation, also has ambitions to once again further the extent of his dukedom and his wealth.

[Klagenfurt] Mercantilist Confederation

Across the now sprawling realm there were many sorts of people. Gone were the simpler days of farming just to survive and move on. Though the Great Plague had ripped away many souls, they had survived. And anywhere where there is some level of finance, there is merchants. The Confederation had formed gradually over decades. Ruling out other factions, buying in others, and possibly even killing the worst of their competition. In Klagenfurt itself the League keeps a dominant base. There they whisper in the boy King’s ear, and also the Dukes. Spread across the entire realm, opinions wildly varied. But elected as “Chancellor of the Confederation” one thing was certain. Sophie Brasseur and her vast wealth and loyal faction were the leading element.

Her story is one shrouded in mystery and scandal. Not from the Realm, she was a sailor from the southern oceans. Rumored to be a pirate, but officially she was an explorer. She had met her husband, Ormanno Sforza, at a brief stop to the capital of Klagenfurt. A rich man himself, he was a prime member of the Confederation. His power bloc was small, but stable and lucrative in their business. Mainly dealing with navigation and charting of the coast and water ways. After years of courting, the two married in the capital.

Becoming a Klagenfurtan, Sophie and Ormanno complemented each other in many ways. She brought a lot of ships into the ‘Sforza Guild’. With so many ships and experienced troops coming from Sophie, the Guild was at a strong position. Though slandered for Sophie’s now openly revealed pirate past, her and Ormanno were still well respected. As the years passed, the Guild expanded operations monthly. Mainly internal, they focused on winning seats in the Merchants Council, and furthering their status in the Confederation as a whole.

The Guilds big break came with the onset of the Plague. Already a prime guild in the M.C, Sforza and his Guild profited off the deaths. Their Guild and Family were relatively in tact, and their competition was dying off or selling out. Eventually Sforza was elected Chairman, and their Guild dominated the vast M.C . Tragically though, Ormanno also succumbed to the plague.

Taking her original name, Sophie Brasseur was not to be daunted. Though personally devastated, she kept the Sforza Guild running. Her deft handling of the crisis in the later years of the Plague won her the Chairmen seat. Though a women, her wealth, influence, and power, and former husband’s status meant she had all the credentials required.

Now at the head of a mostly loyal Confederation of dozens of guilds, Sophie was here to stay. The vast wealth and influence of the Confederation were finally stable, and under proper leadership. They could now turn from their internal bickering, into external profit and policy.

THE DUCHY OF VALDEK
BLUE

The Duchy of Valdek, or the Land of Rivers is one of the largest and most populous within the Kingdom of Klagenfurt. Rolling hills and fertile soil constitute much of the terrain, provided by the Selle river and its many tributaries, which divides the Duchy in two and characterizes the landscape. Valdek is mostly low lying, and floods frequently which has been dealt with through the construction of many dykes across the area. These not only help to reduce the occasional flooding, but also act as a defensive measure should the need arise. To the North, the Pannan mountains provide a boundary to both the Kingdom, and the Duchy. In the west, the Crownlands.

The lands of Valdek, naturally fractured by the numerous rivers, have always been hard for any of the native Valdenian lords, princes, or barons to dominate for any meaningful period of time. Occasionally, the area would see eras of fleeting unity, bound together only by the will of one man. The most meaningful of these periods came in the year 1123 when Valdek was, though rather loosely, united by the ingenious work of Lord Aldert II. This period, referred to as ‘Aldert’s Peace’ saw unprecedented growth and prosperity. Throughout Aldert’s Peace, the beginnings of what would become a somewhat unified Valdenian state emerged. However, Aldert’s Peace would not last, and his united realm would collapse upon his death in 1145. By 1157, and the arrival of Prince Rupert of Styria, The Valdenian states had become embroiled in yet another internal conflict, this more destructive than any before. Known as the Tulip Wars, much of the region’s infrastructure, population, and capacity to wage war were destroyed or expended. Rupert masterfully rolled over the area, turning many of the lords feuds on each other in order to further stabilize and control the area. The last of the Valdenian states and principalities were conquered by Rupert II in the years following.

Newly inducted into the Kingdom of Klagenfurt, the Duke Coen VII van Arensch was invited to rule the new Duchy. His rule was quick and efficient. The internal leadership of the Duchy was largely preserved, and order largely maintained. Throughout the reign of Charles, trade was emphasized, and Valdek once more prospered. The core of nobility and knights which were largely decimated in the Tulip Wars, and the conquests of Valdek, slowly begun replenish.

The Great Plague ravaged the Duchy of Valdek, which had only begun to eclipse the levels of population from the era of Aldert’s Peace. Huge swaths of the Valdenian population either died or fled from the Duchy, and even the reigning Duke and his wife succumbed to the Plague, leaving the then only 12 year old Charles as the Duchy’s ruler. The newly orphaned Duke, tutored by a trusted companion of his father’s, the Count William Van Albret, has grown into both an intelligent and ambitious man. He has become fascinated with the region’s history, and seeks to restore Valdek to the prestige once wielded by figures such as Aldert II.

The Valdenian army, is one of the largest in the Kingdoms. Overall command of the professional troops rests with the Count Van Albret, while the levies are entrusted to the command of their various Viscounts, Barons, and Knights. The core of Valdenian army is composed of sturdy and (atleast) internally distinguished Pikemen, who are rigorously drilled and trained. The Royal Valdenian Army emphasizes the importance of Infantry on the field, and flexibility in movements.

THE DUCHY OF GALLIAN

Image result for coat of arm

For long and long, the House of Antegenet have been residents of Gallian, ruling a short tract of mostly dusty farmland along the southern fringes of the Duchy, where they held sway of the marches. The fortunes of Antegenet changed in recent times, when the previous Duke, Richard, led an ill conceived attempt to establish an independent kingdom in the South-West. Swiftly stamped out, Richard found himself subject to attainder and execution, and his more loyal Antegenet cousins swiftly found themselves achieving mastery of the Duchy.

Many of the new Antegenet vassals chafed at the notion of serving a relatively minor and impoverished house of border lords as opposed to the deposed House of Gallius, and John I of Antegenet spent most of his rule fighting and putting down small rebellions and nomadic incursions from the south, however, by 1369 Antegenet rule was solidified and John passed down a relatively united Duchy to his son, Roger of Camebry, who seeks largely to extend his influence and authority, and means to take advantage of a weakened Crown in order to do it.
