Desired State: New York

 

History of said State’s history, leadership, and government: New York began as a Dutch colony on the island of Manhattan after the island was purchased by the Iroquois in 1609. Before long it would become the British colony of New York and was a major trade port for the country. The island itself is where New York City would develop, while the colony would stretch to the mainland to the north. After the United States achieved its independence in the American Revolution New York City would become the temporary capital, before the writing of the Constitution. Once a member of the Union, the state capital would become Albany and New York City a thriving economic center. Already businesses on Wall Street boomed under the hand of John Jacob Astor, and J.P. Morgan was a rising entrepreneur and banker at Duncan, Sherman, & Company, while Cornelius Vanderbilt led his country-wide railway empire from New York City. New York had already become a center of culture as well, being home to the Hudson River School and writers such as Washington Irving and the journalist Horace Greeley. In the darker sections of New York City, William “Boss” Tweed led Tammany Hall, often regarded as a corrupt way to gain the votes of immigrants. While the Union had fallen, the Empire State was had yet to even reach its peak.

Desired State; Wisconsin

 

History of said State’s history, leadership, and government; Before the arrival of European settlers, Wisconsin has long been inhabited by various Native American Tribes. It wasn’t until the late 17^th century until it was discovered by a French explorer by the name of Jean Nicolet. The area remained under French then British control until after the war of 1812 when an American presence finally established itself. The large migration of American miners soured relation with the native population of the state. Two wars ensued and ended with the removal of native tribes from a majority of their territory. 

 

Wisconsin’s population grew in size over the following years a large population of German and English immigrants settled within the territory and established small towns and farms. The Catholic and Lutheran churches that sprouted around these towns helped solidify a common identity for Wisconsin residents. The rural industry and production of dairy products became the lifeblood of the territory and was assisted by the ever-increasing population of foreigners and Yankees arriving within its borders. It wasn’t until the succession of multiple states from the union that Nelson Dewey took it upon himself to declare Wisconsin as a sovereign state of its own. The governor worked tirelessly to transform Wisconsin into a proper state by improving infrastructure and creating harbors and railroads. Dewey was a strong abolitionist and regularly condemned the practice of slavery and expressed his democratic views. His opinions became almost universally shared by his successors and the citizens of his state.

Desired State; Arkansas

 

History of said State’s history, leadership, and government; Ruled over by the Quapaw indian tribe for years and years, the spanish explorer Hernando de Soto, in 1541, found these tribes and the Arkansas river, and climbed the Ozark mountains. Founding resistance from the Indians and nothing of value, de Soto and his men retreated to the Mississipi river, where he fell ill. In his deathbed, Hernando ordered for the massacre of the Quapaw people in the village of Anilco, and a year later, in 1542, he died. Soto’s men tried an on-land return to Mexico, and where eventually backtracked and returned to Arkansas. They built a fleet off the trees in the region, nothing more than two or three boats, and returned to the Mississipi river and down to Mexico. Later, Henri de Tonti and Robert La Salle in 1681 founded the Arkansas post and the region was only truly organized in 1819 as the Territory of Arkansaw and admitted as a US state in 1836 as simply ‘Arkansas’.

Desired State; Ohio

 

History of said State’s history, leadership, and government;

Created a state in 1803, Ohio was formed out of the Northwest Territory, as the 17th State of the United States. Cillicothe was the first capital of Ohio, followed by Zanesvilles and finally by Columbus in 1816.

 

The Ohioan State Militia is a neglected and ramshackle affair, with little in the way of men or serviceable weapons, but it does benefit from several notable officers and many federal career soldiers, including Captains Ulysses S Grant, Philip Sheridan, William T Sherman and George Custer.

 

Ohio is a rich industrial and infrastructural hub, with a large population and an abundance of major industry, making the State a major player in the fractured American dream.

History of said State’s history, leadership, and government;
California didn't have a history that dates back a long time like that of most other states. It had only become a state ten years earlier, when it was conquered from Mexico. The area had been settled before then by a mix of Mexicans and American pioneers, the latter group increased significantly since the start of the Californian Goldrush. While the Goldrush had lasted only seven years, it lefts it's mark on California. The territory had rapidly changed, becoming the first somewhat tamed part of the 'wild west’. Towns had sprung up everywhere and the land had started being developed, the American west coast was becoming civilized.

While California had been ruled by a governor like any other U.S. state, this fell into questioning as the U.S. itself fell. There were other figures in California, they may not all have been as qualified, though they were sure more popular. One such figure was a certain Joshua Norton. A man from San Francisco who the citizens of the city had begun calling the Emperor of the United States. He lacked any significant backing, he was a businessman who'd gone poor and now lived on the poverty line, instead he made made himself Emperor and declared it to the San Francisco newspapers, who thought it'd make for a fun article. Immediatly it caught on and people started going along with it, calling Norton 'his majesty’ and the likes. Norton became so popular in fact, that he started getting some actual power and recognition. Not only were San Francisco toy stores selling Emperor Norton dolls, mister Norton was provided free public transport too, some people, who felt sympathy for Norton's impoverished lifestyle, even went as far as to donate money to him, calling it "Tax Revenue”. It didn't take long before Joshua Norton was perhaps the best known man in San Francisco and the surrounding region, and his rise to popularity came at exactly the right time, because when the United States fell, people started looking for a man to lead the newly independent California in the right direction. Thus, in 1861, the Federal Empire of California was founded, with a small senate as it's government and Joshua Norton as it's popular figurehead, the Emperor from San Francisco.

New Hampshire, the first of the Thirteen colonies to set up and independent governent and create its own constitution in 1776, was now independent again. Slavery had never been much prevalent in New Hampshire, as it was abolished, at least to an extent, in the early years of 1783. 

 

New Hampshire now stands alone, wary of the English to the North, Maine to the East and New York to the West. Though there is no doubt that New Hampshire will find its place in the new political landscape of the Americas. But what role will it play?
