Ulya, at the peak of summer

Eurylon hobbled down the steps into the courtyard of the Crimson Keep, his raven black hair untamed, sprawling in every which way. He groaned as the summer sun invaded his eyes, straining his half-asleep pupils. He pulled his black fur closer around his body as he stepped off the last step, exhaling outwards as the frost seeped into his southern bones, his breath turning into a cloud momentarily before dissipating into the atmosphere. In his hand, he held a hollowed out white tusk of an animal, wringing it frustration, peering inside it every once in a while. The lord came to rest at a stone railing rounding the green area of the courtyard. His brown eyes, carrying a couple of thick bags under them, scanned his surroundings, muttering complaints in a foreign tongue. He sees nothing. Once more, his vision darted across his environment. His search had become frantic. Where was it? He’d seen it last night. Once more, his drowsy vision surveyed every inch of the courtyard. Finally, there it is! In all its glory, a wooden barrel laid, as if fallen from the rails, underneath a tree.  He made haste towards the barrel, focused on it. His bare feet making a melodic tapping sound on the polished stone every stride as he crosses the enclosure, with a spring in his step, his hobble being vanquished. He made his way to the green tree, its trunks and hearty leaves blanketed in a thick layer of fluffy snow. With an audible ache, he bent down, knocking the barrel over on its side, and casually sticking his horn in the earth, underneath the cork. He popped it out effortlessly, and watched as a clear liquid began gushing outwards. He removed his horn from the grasp of the black dirt, leaning back as he gulped it all down, in nearly one sip. Pleasure overtakes his face as he releases gas, and he begins to lean in once again for another hornful, until a voice calls out, from a very close proximity, and rather monotonous. “Hello, Lord Eurylon.” Startled, Eurylon, spins around quickly, gasping for air. Upon coming to a realization of who it is, his guard drops, and he leans over once more, to collect more of the gushing liquid, seeping into the frosted soil now. “Prince Eirik, to what do I owe the pleasure of this entertaining encounter?” he calls out, lifting his body up and downing another horn of alcohol. Eirik stood some one-two feet behind him , his arms folded behind his stained red robe, his blonde hair in a bun and flaunting a rather forced smile. “I was on my way to a council meeting, when i saw you under a tree, my Lord. I was wondering if you needed any… assistance.” croaks Eirik, his body remaining unmoved. Eurylon removes the horn from his lips, licking them as he sets it down, rising to his feet and hauling the barrel up, placing it on the railing of the courtyard, where it was previously, with a groan of effort. “Never needed help getting a drink, prince.” he'd say, the clear liquid flowing out unhindered, splashing on the stone of the floor when not caught by the horn. He picks up his horn on the ground, and blocks the stream of liquid, filling the horn to the brim and downing it quickly. “Never will.” he'd say sticking the horn under the stream, the intensity of the stream waning. The pair would simply stay idle for several moments, the air between them turning awkward. “As you wish, my Lord.” Eirik breaks the silence, and he bows his head lightly. Hed begin to walk off, before pausing, and rotating his head back towards Eurylon, who cautiously watched the shamans light footsteps traverse across the stone paths of the courtyard, heading towards a hallway.”Ah...It escaped my mind, my lord.” His entire body turns to face that of Eurylon, who remains unmoved, downing his 4th hornful of alcohol. “You may attend the council meeting too, if you'd like. Prince Bjorn has made it so. You’d probably make it there before Knut!” Eirik concludes with a plastic giggle, his vision hacking inside the very soul of Eurylon. Awkwardness plagues the two once more, as the reins of the conversation are taken hold by the rustling leaves and the chirping birds in the distance. “I'll leave you to it then, my lord.” once again chirps Eirik, performing an about face and disappearing through a hallway in the castle. Eurylon produces a troubled face, which his quickly hidden by the gaseous side effects of the ale.

The soft taps of Eiriks feet rebound across the long lonely hallway, eventually making their way towards a lonesome wooden door, through which behind it could be heard the audible muffles of a chorus of men quarreling with each other. Eirik removes the bolt, opening the door wide for his lean body to pass through. At once he is greeted by the arguments and cries of dozens of angry lords, with Bjorn, Tormund, and even Knut, with his usual displeasure though, present at the meeting. The Lords pay no mind to Eiriks entrance, as he silently makes his way towards his seat. The room is intimate, with some dozen or so lords engaged in a shouting match surrounding an elongated table with eaten bits and pieces of food on wooden plates. “The County of Ryapa will not recognize a new Duke, simply because a letter said that this boy was the Dukes favorite son!” screeches a pot bellied stout man. A chorus of ayes and chants of assuredness join the man who casts a face of spite towards Bjorn, whose face is saturated with unbelief. An elderly lord, more elegantly dressed wearing fine thin silks rises, with his hands clasped, and his frail voice begins to sing. “My lord, the rules cannot be bent under these circumstances. The Lords are in agreement. The Clash must go on.”   Once more the various lords agree, displaying it by a collective ‘aye.’ Tormund rises, and begins to go down the road of a long winding monologue. Knut however, grows restless. His posture has changed and is changing. He seems anxious, as if teeming to leave the confines from his seat. Thormund’s monologue engages the audience, his words infesting some of the hearts of the lords with doubts, and throwing the chamber once more into a fit of insults, name calling, and debate. Knut did not want to listen to this, as the lies and tales of bureaucracy was not for him. He had pressing matters to attend to. In the heat of the argument, no one noticed his silent departure from the council. Some looked as he crossed in front of seats and between the legs and through squeezes between chairs. They noticed, but they did not care. The chances for a successful candidacy were slim for him, was the recurring thought in the minds of many of the Lords in the council, preoccupied with defending the traditions of the Dukedom from the hands of an eager young candidate.

Knut had shut out himself out from the bickering of the men with the latch of the wooden door that separated him from the world of politics. But as he stepped out, the flames within him grew. The flames of curiosity. These flames propelled his every step through the halls of the crimson keep. However the fires grew, and his tempo increased with every corner turned, his light stride turning into a brisk walk, turning into a jog, turning into a sprint. He ran through the halls like a madman, bypassing maid, soldier, and lord alike. Even Eurylon, quite cleaned up from the earlier affair, who looked at him in a dazed confusion, yet continued trudging along, not paying much attention after. Eventually, the endless running ceased,at the presence of yet another, plain looking wooden door. Knuts hands shook, as a result of a combination between the running and his yearning for what awaited him on the other side of the wood. He threw it open, revealing an empty room, nothing on the walls, no tables, no furniture, no banners nothing. Yet there was everything at the same time. One artifact, laying on a stand against the wall. A gleaming set of armor, ruby red all of its plates. Its craftsmanship was excellent, yet it bore evidence of wear, struggle, and war. A relic of his forefathers. This was Knut’s life. His every thought for the year since he'd seen it displayed in the throne room. He wanted to find out its secrets with a passion. No one knew what it did, its mysteries were held away, as only for the future Duke to exploit. But Knut would know, he needed to know. “I am forever indebted to him” muttered Knut, his jraw hanging half way down to the floor in awe at what was before him. His jaw recollects himself, and a grin transforms his face.

The door shuts, and after a couple of moments, a red light seeps out into the passageway, for a mere instant, and everything had changed.

-Scientists and engineers from both nations continue to labor over finite adjustments to lenses, mirrors, and brass mechanisms. The image is there, it simply needs the finishing touches to procure a clear, detailed rendering of the objects hidden deep within the heavens, away from the prying eyes of the man in this world. The project consumes yet even more gold, as the scholars need the best tools and resources to create an eye into the celestial realm. Should the telescope be completed, and a clear image can be shown, they quickly begin on their prophetic task:studying the planets. (-30k, 70k total towards Telescope, Supreme has 7 edu and I have 2)

-At the blood forge, the mages and smiths continue to work hand in hand on recreating the red armor found at the blood forge. They attempt many different ideas, trying to heat pure blood in the fires of the forge, embedding the black, shiny rocks found at the forge with magic, or creating an alloy of blood and metals found at the forge. Last year, the sweat of their brows slaving in the fires of the volcano resulted in nothing but nuggets of charred metal. This year, they attempt to make at least some improvements, more gold being used to fund the project.(-29.25k towards blood metal, 50k total, I have 2 edu points.)

-Knut tries on the blood armor, exposing him to its effects.

The Morning Kingdom was rather busy this year. The emergence of two new cities on the other side of the Black Brume meant a rush of business and trade for the Western Territories. The Morning King elects to capitalise on this with the construction of numerous trade buildings in them, including Merchants Guilds and Trade Ports in both, and a Manufactory in Xian Shanguo. Anticipating a sharp rise in the Kingdom’s production and therefore goods, the Morning King also charters yet another trade company based in Yonghai, this time for the purpose of trading with the remnants of the Symon Empire.

Futhermore, two new towns crop up, one in the Orbita Basin, and another in the eastern sections of the Black Brume. They are granted their charters, the former named Richuguo, the latter named Shiwo. Expansion continues further, with settlers arriving en masse in the last stretch of unclaimed territory in the range to establish an outpost – territory bordering the Throats. Regardless, the Morning King orders the construction of 3 new areas of farmland to support the quickly growing population and settlements of the Kingdom.

Growing tired of the disappearances near Cairn, and the rumours and unrest accompanying them, the King also begins the training of troops specifically to handle this nuisance. 500 heavy infantry are drawn from the many of the Kingdom’s strongest unenlisted young men, trained with great intensity, and outfitted with steel arms and armour.

The Kingdom of Hilmedhi

The Great Port City of Dorhimi, was glistening in the early morning sunlight. The last stop for many fleets heading west. Which lead to its importance. It was the most populated city in the Kingdom from foreigners alone. Which entwined with crime, slave trade, and some poverty still struck the streets with its rag ridden vagriants. It was a jewel on the edge of the jungle. The gateway for many a nation looking to expand their horizons. Dorhimi’s Protectors had seen their fair share of atrocities committed. Especially by those foreigners who 27 short years ago would have never set foot in their homeland. Like most enforcers of the law, they were ruthless and corrupt when it came to those they did not approve of. It was reaching a boiling point, as Throck was away leading his great nation in a time of war and Ruth was away, administering the upper half of the Kingdom with Elizabeth one of the twin princesses. It was down to the two presumptive favorites in the eyes of their father to help quell the situation.

Ashur stood upon the dock, his dark hood covering his head. His staff was gripped in his right hand, solid oak wood, lined with silver and gold that ran through the shaft of the staff. At the top, laid a carefully crafted gold and silver infused nest that held the sapphire on top of it. It glistened off the sunlight like the waves themselves. He was joined by his sister Syndra, who carried the signature amber hair that blessed the Cinder family line. Freckles dotted across her nose and cheeks. Her light green eyes glowed, amplified by her tan complexion. She was one of the prettier Hilmedhians, which made this job much more of a risk. Her sword like her mother’s glistened at her hip when it was revealed. They looked out upon the sea, as the smooth waves moved under her feet.

Behind them stood their Ironbreakers, stout in nature. Sworn to protect their royalty. Everyone was dressed in their cloaks. To keep their surprise appearance hidden. Towards the back of the group, stood a 12ft tall stone giant. The latest of Ashur’s creations. It stood silent, as it watched over the street. Blocking all foot traffic.

“Sad sight. Seeing how Damien lost an arm and our fleet because he ceded his command to Arragin. No wonder father married her off when she hit adulthood. Ashur glanced over at his sister, a slight hint of hate filled his voice. “She let her ego get the best of her. The best thing we got from her is peace of mind and securing our peninsula.” he shifted his weight, as he heard the sigh coming from his sister.

“She did not completely fail. She captured the man responsible for your family’s slaughter. Ashur.” She turned on her heels to face him. “I see your anger. Without them, you would not be where you are today. She did cost our nation a great deal of resources and nearly our uncle. She cost those miserable blood worshippers their leader. She became what father fears Elizabeth will become. A bloodthirsty, power obsessed fiend.” Her voice tailed off, in the back of her mind she hated talking about her twin like this. Her best friend, but she knew it was true.

“This is to stay between us Syndra. Appearances must be kept, despite feelings. Elizabeth is still family. We must hope her mind stays sane.”

“Am I some nimwit to you? I know how this game is played Ashur.” She snapped back.

“No you are not daft. The game changes. Atleast I can account for you not being amazed by things you thought you never see. Like those peasants who gawked over Padma and her braindead companions who reek of ****.” The pair, chuckled a bit before the march of the Dorhimi Protectors echoed through the stone roads and alleys. It is time we made our appearance know.”  his face turned dark. As he mumbled a few words in prayer. As his golem came to life, the streets shook under the heavy stone footing. A sweeping justice was coming through Dorhimi. A change that would rattle the city in blood. Cleansing of filth had begun.

Being mounted and lightly armoured, they should be able to outrun any significant hordes. World Events

In the far west, the Xian Kingdom remains an inscrutable place. Horsemen now patrol their border with Surya, and their fleet has been seen sailing along the coast in small groups.

Generan Von Mokaü has struck another blow against the Auldic Tribes by capturing one of the key chieftains and having him carted back to the capital, where he was paraded down the streets and then executed in front of a large crowd. Mokaü’s Bastards and their Swine companions have no pushed back many of the Auldic tribes and brought a near complete halt to their raids, murdering thousands of them and causing many to flee back to the frigid islands from whence they came from.

As a reward for the destruction of the Republicans, and pressured by a court that fears for the stability of the Symon Empire, Emperor Almeric IV names Serros the Lord of the Southern Armies. There, he clamps down hard on dissent, forcing some reticent lords to send their unused armies north.

In the rest of the Symon Empire, dissent continues to bubble below the surface and in the far north, with Scezar Lockwater now in Ischyros, some lords have openly refused to pay taxes, send levies or acknowledge Emperor Almeric IV’s commands.

A particularly violent storm has swept across the Loba desert in the past year, raining fire across lands previously thought immune to such dangers. Winds poured tons of sand into the sky and sent them swirling through the desert in giant tornadoes. Who knows what may now lie uncovered…

In a historic move, Lord Lucius Blackmarrow has decreed that he will send Two-thousand men to guard the Stitches from the south, and stop any incursion from Ulyadar lands, or… beyond.

Trident, now relieved from the pressure of the Volarucian army, decrees that it due to the Volarucian unwillingness to repay their loan, it will now begin to fund the Lithborn empire in their war of defense against the Volarucian oathbreakers. The result is the massing of disparate mercenary groups gathered near Trident.

The Kingdom of Danwent

The peaks of the Aulem mountains are relatively small compared to those of the roots, but they are jagged and many of the nests are inacessible. Nonetheless, the adepts climb, risk their lives, and bait the eagles closer. Finally, after weeks, they gain their trust and through speech, manage to gain the subservience of a few of these proud creatures. Most are about 4 meters in wingspan, with the largest domesticated specimen having a wingspan of 5.5 meters.

The Games prove to be an ever more popular distraction from war and drudgery and once again, thousands flock to Danwent to watch the athletes display their skills to the world. (dealt with your own rewards in discord)

With the prospect of a marriage between Symon and Danwent, the empire sends a dowry of 25.000 gold to the Kingdom, along with various swords, armors and other artifacts of historical significance to adorn Thoryus’ home(s).

The Holy Kingdom of Elea

Eadni raids do not abate this year. If anything, they practically intensify as ports and villages are attacked from the sea repeatedly. One port is burnt to the ground by their raids, rendering it completely irreparable. (-12.500G)

Secret projects…?! (Discord)

A strange man approaches the capital, with a heavy cloak and whispered words of a vital opportunity for the king… (Discord)

The Kingdom of Five

The pirate raids continue, ever more violent as much of the Swine fleet is occupied in the south. The Meldans accept the apology in good grace and assure the Swine that they are doing _everything_ in their power to stop the pirates. (-10.000G)

A great wonder indeed, though the thought of it could strike fear in those not aligned with the faith of the pigfolk…

The Walrus of Öbergrad always appreciates the arrival of even more men lacking any sort of moral compass and willing to kill anyone they’re told to!

Another hastily built fortress to line up against the incoming Suryan menace.

The research into the walls prove that either within or without, the swinium beams prove to do little more than prop up the walls while having very little effect of anything at all. Ultimately, once the stone is bashed apart, the Swinium pillars contribute very little. Before that happens, they do not make the stones stronger.

But as the year wanes, a group of people approach the royal palace, asking to speak to Dakkar… (discord)

The Princedom of Volarucio

The newly appointed Lord of the Southern armies agrees to allow the Volarucian’s into his home, though he clearly holds little love for them. (Discord)

Jeryn of House Inkwater refuses to negotiate any further until the debt has been fully repayed. He stipulates that at this point, any other decision would be insulting to Trident’s treasured history as merchants. They have given ample warning to Volarucio, and now expect a repayment in full, immediately, or they will continue to fund the Volarucian enemies.

The Chapel welcomes the envoys. (Discord)

The Empire of Bourdeleaux

A sign of approval for Bourdeleaux’s actions in the north? Either way, two fervent men of the clergy find themselves uplifted with new powers this year. (+2 magi)

Dupuis and his men thus sail through the straights of Golûn and find themselves in ever more foreign lands, where the people are yellow of skin and wear strange, colorful clothes. Even stranger, they live in tiered cities, with the nobility rarely leaving the upper levels connected by bridges. (Xian Discovered)

Surya

At the cusp of the year, the Suryan’s receive word from the people of Sekh. It is a polite apology from a group of explorers, who ask the Suryans to overlook their masters dislike for their alliance. Contrary to their rulers, they would be glad to aid in an expedition into the desert! For they themselves have the ambition to explore it further, but they simply lack the resources. (Discord)

The Commonwealth of Ruhn

And as the year progresses, so does Melchior on his long journey. (Discord)

The Poopums dynasty continues to expand as he takes over many other farms and decides to make Poopums LLC. go public, gaining a historic start on the RUhn Stock MarkeT (RUST). He starts the day at 5 potatoes per share and ends it at 25 potatoes per share. Soon he will be rolling in them thar ‘taters.

The Galaharian League

In the Storm Keep, more men are caught wandering towards the forest with glazed eyes. Some are found dead at the foot of the walls that they apparently clambered over without a second thought. In total, at least 30 of them have disappeared into the woods last year and slipped through the watchful gaze of their brothers.

It does not take long for the explorers to find the Desert, as it dominates the northern horizon as they go along the coast. What lies inside of it is an entirely other story, however. Unfortunately, Princess Ori was present at the Danwenti King’s choosing of a bride and is thus incapable of being on the boat! (People of Sehk discovered.)

The People of Sehk are willing to buy 2000 slaves for the construction of their capital, at a price of 5.000G.

The Kingdom of Fyr-Darrick

The ballistae projects continue at a steady pace. Firing multiple bolts is no easy task and there is still work to be done.

The Duchy of Ulyadar

Grain indeed! In such a hostile climate it seems almost impossible, but there fertile slices of land around the ravines full of boiling lava allow for some truly spectacular growth! Including all sorts of vegetables and fruits that shouldn’t grow at such latitudes.

Finally, the Elean scientists have managed to create a functional telescope that one can handle with both hands. It offers a clear view of the sky and the stars above, though it will not hold up to the elements or to long trips. The eleans are the ones that have developed the expertise, while the ulyadi scientists remain quite clueless.

The research on the blood armor continues to yield no results.

As for Knut, as he puts on the armor, he feels a burning sensation throughout his body as the flesh melds with steel and the armor fuses itself to his body in an agonizing episode of pure torture. Hours spent within the rigid steel coffin until finally the pain begins to ease, though it never truly goes away, like a haze in the back of his mind. By the end, he can feel the armor fused to his flesh like a cage, but with it, he feels as if his mind has been expanded by a second entity, the mind of the armor itself. It is a raging torrent of bloodshed and endless fury, screaming for a battle, but acting like a second brain that aids his blows, helps him dodge and takes over a plethora of instinctive measures while sucking the blood from its surface to heal him and even mend the living metal with which it has been crafted. With all that, it also offers speed and strength that he could not have possessed before.

The Kingdom of Numeria

What more is there to say beyond the unending war at its very doorstep?

And the glow in the mountains continues to grow. This year, some report that it has even pulsed with brighter flashes, like a thundercloud rent apart by a flash of lightning.

The Morning Kingdom

A quiet year, apart from all those children disappearing within the crypts of the undercity!

The Kingdom of Hilmedhi

The Free Cities, as distant as they are, protest the outlawing of slavery with the rare merchants that come this far but for the most part, the ban does not pull much of a reaction from these nations within range of Hilmedhi trade.

Though confused, the men do practice how to raise the tents fast and manage it on a reliable basis.

The telescopes are most excellent, but to make them into a scope will still require work.

The enchantment for longer range on crossbows is not particularly complicated, but requires a lot of time and care. As such, it is rated as a Medium Enchantment.

The city of Dohrimi certainly appreciates the gift and puts it to good use for the poor of the city, boosting the entire city upward by starting at the foundations. (+2000 G per turn from improvements.)

As the now familiar flash of the Nexus fades, the Golem steps out of the area and looms over its creators. Then it breaks into four smaller man-sized boulders, forms rough balls and begins to roll around them like billiard balls!

The Fortress Libraries

The riders reave through the land, slaughtering hundreds of bloated throats in their messy little villages and camps. A few thousand-strong groups try to attack them, but they dodge them and burn a swath through the land, no doubt killing many thousand and pulling a lot of attention to themselves before riding back north with scouts reporting that many individual groups have begun to mass near the northern reaches of their territory.

The book of knowledge??! (Discord)

A printing press. A strange idea that still requires work after many a messy mess that resulted in ink-covered robes!

Kingdom of Danwent – 1528

There is promise in this new year. The king married a beautiful wife, a marriage that brings strong ties, but also duties to Thoryus and his fellowship. For the safety of Danwent and the surrounding realms. Duke Hasoran was still on campaign against the Throats in the East. How that would turn out is yet to be seen. At home, the recruitment of new troops is of absolute importance. And, Count Theodos, the Master of Ships has ordered the construction of new warships to bolster the fleet of the Kingdom and give them a presence on the seas.

Following the victory of the Numerians, Aywentos Rumaari is to investigate the political situation in the neighbouring Symonese Empire. It is clear that by now, the dissent of the Lords and the growing unrest has reached the Governmental Complex in Tzaria.

All in all, the stability of this neighbouring realm is of importance to King Thoryus Armon. Whilst there is still the conflict with Numeria to be considered, Peace is the goal he is working towards.

More RP to be added as required.

EMPIRE OF BOURDELEAUX

Ruler: H.I.M. Emperor Adrian II

Government: Imperial Constitutional Monarchy

Population: ~ 24,018,047 (next 25,759,355)

“...Your Highness?”

“Come, Gustave, bring some men. We must venture down to the squabbler’s district.”

“Sire, might I inquire, why?” the man asked. A young, though well-defined soldier of the Guard. A third son of an aristocrat, much like Francis to his father. Knowing he’d never inherit anything, he’d left home and enlisted his services for the Guard. To that, he found satisfaction. For there was no greater honor for a knight or aspirant. He possessed the characteristic blonde locks and blue orbs so desired throughout the nobility. In fact, appearing even more ‘noble’ than his eldest brother, who would come to inherit his family’s lands.

Francis on the other hand, was less concerned with such base appearances, and kept Gustave as a friend for his loyalty and reliability. Francis was the youngest of the three sons of Adrian, yet he struck a balance between the two. Who would’ve been Adrian III, was thick-skulled and preferred to think with his sword foremost. His next brother, Philip, was loose of morals, lavishing completely in the privileges of being a son to the Emperor. Since Adrian’s death, Philip was inspected to inherit. Meanwhile, Francis kept his eyes on the whole ordeal, opting for now to not speak on such matters. For the time, their father still breathed, meaning Bourdeleaux would be in good hands.

“Hm?” said Francis, his head buried in a manifest. He looked up, “Oh, yes. Every so often we must re-negotiate our contracts with the Guilds. In particular, the Blacksmith’s Guild.”

“Who forge the armor that I currently don, I take it.” said Gustave, brushing down his black and gold breastplate.”

“Precisely. And they who arm the majority of our nation’s armed forces. Gotta keep ‘em happy and working.”

“I understand.”

“And when the time for the armor and weapons shipments come, I’ll need you to oversee escort details, bringing them up to the Armory.”

“Aye, Your Highness. I can do that.”

“Good, let’s go then.” said Francis, lowering the document.

“...Are you sure, you should be going? Can’t someone else be sent?”

“Nonsense. If not me, then who? Certainly not my brother.” he scoffed. “Might do them good to see a friendly face rather than be bombarded with the drawl of quotas and numbers.”

“Hm. None other with your tact.” he said, grabbing his poleaxe. Standing in the midst of the chamber, he pointed out and selected other Guardsmen to come, “Right, you five, with me.” Without further delay and an aye, sir, the other men fell in line.

“Let’s not delay.” Francis said, beckoning his ally onwards.

The Guildmaster nearly spat out his drink, “Twenty-thousand suits of armor!” he exclaimed, followed by an airy chuckle, “Heh, are there even enough smiths in the country to fulfill that order?” He was a large, sturdily-built man with much of his weight found within his shoulders. He had a large, brown beard, which he audibly could be heard being scratched - like running a hand through sand paper.

“Mister Burgeon, hear me out, would you?”

“Hm.” he grumbled.

“We need that armor for our boys fighting abroad. Everyone serves, one way or another. Some with sword and shield in hand, while others forge the armor ‘pon their backs.”

“You tryna test me? I did my time in the Black.”

“Of course not. Just reminding you how crucial it is we get these arms to them.”

“It simply isn’t feasible. Y’know, we have lives outside of hammering away with sweat on our brows, eh? … families, children, wives…”

“I understand. Which is why, we are prepared to offer a 2 year tax break, throughout the duration.”

The Guildmaster rose a brow, practically risen from his seat, “Is that so? Hm, perhaps we could make it work.”

“So do we have a deal?”

“Aye, that we do.”

Just so you know, I would’ve done it for one.

Commonwealth of Ruhn

“... and in conclusion, it is the firm belief of the citizens residing in Arrogance and Demut that they are deserving of full representation in parliament as befitting a province, rather than a colonial territory.” The droning Lord Minister concluded. The rest of parliament nodded quietly and murmured their opinions to one-another.

Was a territory only a year in the hands of the Commonwealth truly deserving of a Lord Minister to represent them? The Islands was so sparsely inhabited compared to the other provinces, but its relative remoteness did make it seem unfair to be ruled from Shadowcliff. After twenty or so minutes of deliberation, the Lord Chancellor called a vote.

More than fifty members voted against the Islands ascension, while thirty supported it. After the vote was concluded, an addendum was put forth.

“Parliament understands the honest citizen’s desire for local governance, but at this time it would be a waste of resources and infrastructure. However, once the Islands have achieved the standard size for representation, they will be designated a province without need for a later vote.”

On this new motion, sixty Lords approved, while a mere twenty disapproved. The whole matter was thereby concluded, and the governing body moved on once more.

After several more hours of discussion on the annual budget, military reforms, and food distribution, the elder Lord Chancellor gingerly rubbed his tired eyes.

“At this time, I am obligated to move Parliament on to the topic of Ennoblement. If the... supplicant... would approach.”

The loud steps of cleated boots echoed through the stone chamber, and a rotund figure stood before the semicircular row of seats and tables that made up the Commonwealth’s parliament. A sweaty, dirty, heavily balding man had his arms respectfully pulled behind his back, while a ratty straw hat was rested on his paunch belly unassisted. He wore what seemed to be home-made dress-clothes sown from linen, which unnervingly resembled the black jerkins and trousers of parliamentarians.

Lord Chancellor Hanz Bruger shakily placed a set of bifocals upon his withered nose, and looked down at the paperwork before himself.

“If the honourable Lord Ministers could please open the red document upon their tables, we will begin our examination.” The words echoed around the room but not a single noise was made by the Lords, aside from the shuffling of paper and scribbling of quills that somehow sounded morose.

Lord Bruger cleared his throat, and looked upon the individual. “If you could please announce your name to Parliament, Sirrah.”

“Farmer Poopums, M’luds.” He half-belched.

“Your first name as well, if you would please.” Answered Hanz.

“Already did, m’lud. Me name’s Farmer, innit?”

Hanz froze, and quickly looked down to his papers. “I see. I had assumed that was some sort of title. Not your actual legal name. Very... unique.”

“Aye, M’lud, aye.” Chuckled Poopums, “But s’not as uncommon as ye might think! Me own father-in-law’s named ‘Farmer’ as well. Oh my, did we ‘ave a laff about that ‘un. Woo wee! Fine feller, that man.” He briefly guffawed, before devolving into a coughing fit and hocking a globule of mucus-filled spit on the floor. The members of Parliament winced very slightly.

“And your reason for seeking ennoblement, Mister...” Hanz closed his eyes for a moment with a sigh. “... Poopums?”

“S’because I wish t’ serve this ‘ere Common Wealth inna capa-city that I can’t prop’ly do in me current status as a private citizen.” He enunciated some of the larger, more unfamiliar words dreadfully, but appeared proud of himself none-the-less.

“And that service would be, Sirrah?” Spoke Hanz.

“Farmin’ o’course! Ain’t no crops worth a jar o’ spoiled lard compared te the Poopum’s standard! I wish to be ee-now-belled in order te bring forth the finest millet, wheat, barley, and cows what ain’t been seen in these parts not never!”

He placed his hand over his heart, knocking the precariously balanced hat from his stomach. “It’s me pat-riowtic an’ Ancesterr-driven duty te do so.”

“Right. Could I have the opinion of the Parliament on Mister- erm... on Farmer’s eligibility for ennoblement?” The statement caught most of the Lord Ministers somewhat off-guard. They had clearly expected this discussion to last far longer. After five minutes of vigorous speed-reading, a Lord Minister stood up from his chair.

“By the erm, standards set forth by the Ennoblement Act of 1456, Farmer Poopums currently meets all the necessary requirements.”

“I would be most pleased were you to elaborate on this, Lord Vechen.” Spoke Hanz through clenched teeth.

“Well,” the slightly cowed Minister continued, “He has attainted the maximum amount of land that can be allotted to a private citizen, he has shown great acts of piety both prior and after his successes...”

“Me gran-pappy was a shrine-tender, ye see. So I reckoned ‘if a man cannot build an’ look after a few shrines ‘ere an’ there for the poorer folks, what’s the point of ‘avin’ hands?’” He chuckled again while slapping his belly. “An’ that temple I ‘ad commissioned was mostly a promise I made te an old feller I used te help with harvest season. He always wanted one ‘er those fancy bone-‘ouses for the paupers out north, so I figured I’d spend a few years worth o’ savin’s to make one. What goods ye money iff’n ye do naught with it, aye?”

He rubbed a small tear from one of his milky eyes. “He were a good man, that ol’ feller. Always brought me butter on me birthday when I were a lad. Ooh ar.”

Hanz stared blankly at Poopums as the large man began to tear up in front of the lords. He quickly turned back to Vechen. “And his income also meets the standard, even after his generosity?”

“Well, yes, Lord Chancellor. According to these reports he makes quite a bit of money outside of the standard grain contracts by using his non-government land to grow large amounts of turnips a-“

“I see.” Interrupted Hanz, slightly louder than he needed to. “Thank you for your time, Mister Poopums. We will be in contact shortly after the vote and further examinations of your history.”

“Aye m’luds! Thank ye kindly, m’luds!” With some effort he bowed his bulging body, and scrabbled his hat back into his hands. After another low, strenuous bow, he clip-clopped out the main door--much to the relief of all the lords present.

“I would like to call a motion.” Hanz spoke immediately after Poopums closed the main door. “To stand for election in the Commonwealth parliament, an aspirant’s family must have been a part of the nobility for three generations.”

All eighty seats voted in favour.

-Poopum’s advancements are cut short! He doesn’t yet have the proper authorization to manage more than the allowed allotment of lands for a private citizen! Until Parliament comes to a decision on his ennoblement, he can no longer place his sweaty hands upon further farmland! Other citizens are given the land-contracts from Parliament, much to Poopum’s ire... (-19,000 gold towards four farm stacks)

-So many training facilities cover the lands of the Commonwealth that one can scarcely turn their head without seeing the walls of barracks or hear the marching of boots and the shouting of orders. (
-14,250 gold towards three barracks)

-With the growing dangers to food production in northern regions of the Commonwealth, larger fisheries are constructed to mitigate possible future shortages. (
-7125 gold towards a rare goods building [fisheries])

-The grim merchants of Brakkenbridge and Shatterbridge look farther afield for trade. Naros is apparently much larger than they initially thought. A modest investment is made into building further trading infrastructure. (
-11,900 gold towards two trading companies)

-The great mausoleum to He-That-Waits (the final phase of the Wonder’s construction) has begun. Going is slow, for the architects, engineers, and craftsmen know that their task is more than just a job. Their work is to be legendary, and awe the faithful and heathen alike. The vast chamber – carved deep beneath Mouth Ruhn – is starkly Ruhnnite in its appearance. Statues, intricate carvings, decorative buttresses, columns, and an enormous domed ceiling will be a testament to the Commonwealth’s devotion to their one true God. More sky-lights are dug hundreds of metres down from the top of the mountain and the light is redirected by mirrors. The space will have a dim, calming light to it; just enough that worshippers may see the reliefs that deck the walls with religious symbology and stories from the Five Books. And yet, despite this magnificence, there is not a hint of gold, silver or gemstones anywhere in the great shrine. The chamber’s glory must come purely from the faithful’s hard work, and not poisoned with debauched wealth. With this last great work, “The Tomb of the Righteous” will be complete. (

-A church pops up in Bruger, to replace an aging temple practically caked with moss and termites. Such is the fate of all pre-Tablet construction. (-23,750 gold towards a church in Bruger)

-Strange, unprecedented storms have surged across the cities unfortunate enough to have been settled along the Loba River--and this clearly entices the scouts and storm-watchers in the employ of the Commonwealth authorities. It was necessary to observe and keep track of any further ruins or dangerous ancient artifacts that the storm could have uncovered. Water, food stocks, and maps are stockpiled for the brave (perhaps foolhardy) scouts. Furthermore, tents, cloaks, and all manner of protective coverings are ordered to be fashioned from fire-resistant sand-crawler skin to better protect them from the violent elements. The Ruhnnites were the inheritors of the blasted lands of the Loba, and they would know its secrets. (-10,000 gold towards preparations for scouting the Loba desert, and all the dreaded things that it might entail...)

-Pious prisoners from Bruger and Ruhn begin their pilgrimage of repentance. The farthest, most ragged reaches of the Vulture Highway will see them redeemed, or in a ditch. Ne’er-do-wells from other cities are similarly gathered up by Speakers, and ferried to Fortress Bergen. By both crossbow and blade will the pious bring ruin to the enemies of He-That-Waits, and the Commonwealth.(-14,000 gold towards one unit of elite T4 Crag-Runners, one unit of elite T4 Hillmen)

-A force of well-drilled and vigorously trained soldiers march out of barracks of major cities. Like all Commonwealth Line Infantry, they step in unison towards the great foe in the north. Praise Him, and glory to Ruhn! (-50,000 gold towards 2500 T3 veteran medium infantry)

-Almost as an afterthought, a battalion of regular crossbowmen are recruited among the hardy farmers along the coasts of the Hungry Sea. These loyal men are willing to slay swine! ... from very far away... (
-5000 gold towards one unit of T3 crossbowmen)

-Within the deepest bowels of the Commonwealth bureaucracy, pencil-pushers count the beans and cut waste. Reports are sent out to grim looking messengers, and filed appropriately for future use by analysts and eventually Parliament. Gold is piled into chests and sent to builders, marshals, and Lord Mayors. The latter-most group is quite surprised to learn that their cities are to have heavy fortifications constructed around them. (
-42,750 gold towards Strong Tall Stone Walls being built around the cities of Shatterbridge, Aschengrube, and Deepwater)

Galaharian League

*Lorenzo Barbaro grits his teeth as he looks across the sweeping planes of the Passan Isthmus. He stood upon the strong walls of the Storm Keep, which towered in the horizon. But where this Citadel reached for the skies, the forest nearby loomed squat and ugly. Like a certain Duchess he mused. The Passan Commanders, League Captains, and his personal staff had all agreed. Though their position was sound, they were far too exposed. Giovenco had learnt of the forest long ago, on his adventures in the Passan cities. With more and more missing, he could not ignore the problem any more. And so his orders had been for his son to prepare as he sees fit. Reinforcements will be slower to arrive however..

A weary column of Leagues-Men escort slaves and worker farther south of the Storm Keep. Stiffened with some Heavy Infantry and Lights, a similar column marched parallel to theirs. Though still in League land, it now had an ominous tinge to it. None wanted to be far out of the Storm Keeps reach. But they were doing just that. Black Barbaro and his personal cavalry retinue screened the columns, ensuring eyes were kept on the forest. This would be a tedious year, one of building outpost for troops to better watch and defend the perimeter of their Citadel.

-

In the Capital the Duke after careful preparation reveals his plans for all to see. The Senate had over the past few years been swayed to the Barbaro cause. House Sforza and the Ravari Guilds though vastly richer, had their power far more dispersed. The Senate was a tool and housed in Batista’s Landing, also the ancestral seat of House Barbaro. Ormanno Sforza was far away, as were all his other influential lieutenants. Meanwhile Giovenco had counted his allies carefully.

Old_City.jpg

But in the League and especially with a Barbaro, there was no true violence. Both Houses bought up mercenary bands in the cities, that led to inconsequential skirmishes in the catacombs and alleys of the vast Capital. But soon enough the City Wardens cleaned up the scrum, and the Duke moved in with his personal levies. Ringed by Bankers, Senators, Generals [Including Flavio and his Fey Captors], Admirals, Scribes, and all other sorts march behind him. They pour into the senate building, and fill it’s halls. There the last session of the League’s senate is held. In a Legal takeover, the Duke had won the Senate over, and used their own system to pass the edicts with legal authority.

The Senate will here by dissolve, and all former members be ousted from their seats. A new form of government will be forged with the help of people like the Duke, Danwentii Senators, Bankers, Merchants, and land owning citizens. They will follow the inspiration of the parliament system in Ruhn, which had led to that nation’s stability and good morality. A interim government is formed with Giovenco Barbaro at it’s head. He forfeits his Ducal powers, though retaining rights to his Ancestral and political holdings. Sophia Sforza is invited to represent her house. Together they will oversee a campaign for any parties wishing to take part in this new experiment.

**In other news further measures are taken to improve the Capital. Batista’s Landing is a sprawling metropolis, with scores of nations having denizens there. However this was leading to a lot of transportation and housing problems. And so Guilds and Bankers will oversee the financial rejuvenation of investment into the city. The first project is transportation fixtures. Walkways, street plans, and even underground sections to quickly transport citizens, and freight. The Capital will ideally start to have a well planned and efficient grid work of public transportation.

----------------------------------=0=----------------------------------

The evening sun had just begun to set, its massive figure dipping slightly into the horizon. Its golden-red beams of light split through the mountains in the distance and glazed across the grasses of central Naros and over the several tents that dotted the Elean camp. Recently set, the activity within the camp had just begun to die down. The Leytouched had mostly retired early apart from the two men and Ser Edrich tending to the fire and keeping watch, running a whetstone over their blades as they talked quietly. Aleuas was in his tent, no doubt pouring over some dusty tome or praying. Since they had entered the lands of Volarucio, the party had taken a slight sigh of relief, It was nice to be in the lands of the faithful, despite their peculiar and borderline heretical ways of practicing the faith. A feeling of calm and peacefulness hung over the camp, one Koros hadn’t experienced since before he left Delos.

However calm was the last thing that Koros felt at this moment. His heart beat rhythmically in his chest as he stared for a moment at his now instructor, Priam. The young man, probably no more than ten years older than himself, stood across a small clearing, it’s grass hastily stamped out into a small yard. The two had been sparing back and forth for hours, resulting in many welts and bruises across Koros’ person. He tried not to focus on them as Priam began to close in once more, his blade in two hands. Koros’ heart beat even harder as he stepped forward to meet him. In an instant the two blades met, a strike, parry, and another strike. Priam batted away Koros’ sword like straw before a hurricane and littered him with several strikes. Koros only remained on his feet, desperately backpedaling because of how used to the crack of Priam’s blade he had become. However, the short duel was almost over, Koros was nearly spent as Priam slipped through his parry once more and swung to land a final blow. Panic filled his mind, from nowhere, like instinct he thrust his hand outward, And just like that, a minor shield appeared in the blades’ path. It bounced off it harmlessly while Koros delivered a blow from his own blade into the surprised Priam. As soon as he connected, the shield vanished and Koros withdrew. He tossed his sword onto the dirt and sat back on the ground, exhausted. He had finally won, at least partially.

The satisfaction of finally landing a hit on his instructor had only begun to fade when Priam rose from the grass. “Your skills are coming along well, I can’t say I’ve seen one of our adepts use a shield quiet like that before. Well done. Thought I believe that's all for today, we will continue tomorrow.” Priam says, a small nod given to the boy as he pulled his own blade from the grass, wiping off the blade before heading back towards the camp. The jubilant, though exhausted Koros responded with a nod and smile. He laid back into the dirt, staring up into the fiery red dusk sky.

The scene was calm, and quiet, apart from an occasional gust of wind, or the evening chirping of birds and crickets. The longer Koros stared into the sky, the quicker he forgot how long he’d been there. Gradually, the firey red sunset had dipped under the horizon. Replaced with a deep, dark sky. As he peered into the infinite cosmos, his mind began to shift towards prayer, as it had every night. He recited the words in his mind, though they meant little. His mind sharpened, focused on the one goal he had still yet to achieve. And though try as he might, it still eluded his grasp..

Thousands upon thousands of miles away, back in the Royal Capital, in the heart of the Kingdom, festivities raged. The King was getting married! And he would have no less than a Royal Marriage. The city of Pelos was far fuller than it had been before. Thousands of nobles, and citizens alike had come from across the Kingdom to partake in the festivities.

Drums beat, trumpets blared and banners snapped in the midday breeze. The wide avenues of expertly cut white stone are filled to the brim with onlookers, and soldiers alike. From the Palace district, the procession begins. Led by the King himself along with his bride in an extravagantly decorated chariot, pulled by a team of 6 white horses. Followed by the nobles and other guests invited to the actual wedding, it would proceed through much of the city and up the hill where the Great Temple was under construction. Here, the rest of the city is barred from entrance. Within its chambers, the ceremony actually takes place, and a feast is held for the privately invited guests.

Outside the walls of the Temple. The peasants and common folk are not forgotten about. Entertainers and exotic sites from across the world are gathered in the several large squares, where huge festivities, games, and feasts are held for all to enjoy.

As the ceremony and festivities for the nobles conclude, the great procession emerges once again from the hilltop chambers, now led by the King and Queen of Elea. The procession travels its same victory lap, touring much of the city before returning to the palace district. Nobles depart to their residences, guards and soldiers return to their posts, and the newly wed are left to their section of the palace.

The Liberation of Auld

By sword, pike and crossbow was the city of Auld freed from the iron fisted grasp of the Lithborn oppressor. Thousands of good Volarucian men had died, all in the name of restoring the Light of God over the Holy Lands, and freeing the believers from their heathen masters. Corpses, still fresh, strewed the field. Men wandered around, bereft of arms and armour, gathering equipment, valuables and the bodies of their fellow soldiery, in the low mist of the early morning. Above, on the high stone walls, the purple and black banners of Auldhau, unseen for centuries, once again fluttered over the ancient seat of Magic, the heart of Edios’ worshipers.

Damp grass was crushed underfoot as a single column, near five hundred men strong, dressed in suits of fine plate and purple cloaks, crossed the bloody field to the gates of Auld. Over their heads floated the banners of Volarucio and Auldhau, the coat of arms of both Prince August and the personal crest of the Knights of Auldhau. Into the city went this column, in their near religious ceremony, slow and methodical in their advance. Nobly to the fore went August III of Toulagoza, and immediately behind him rode his mages and his adepts, the priests and the chaplains of the army, the Cardinal of the Faith, and then the Knights – his honour guard.

Horse hooves clattered along cobbled streets as men, women and children watched this procession move through the blood stained pathways of the city, cleared of corpses but still overrun with the malodorous stink of death. Many houses had Lithborn soldiers hanging from their eaves, lifeless and rotting, slain in the great anger that followed their defeat. Still forwards rode the Knights, with the peasantry flocking to gawk at their advance. Suddenly, as the streets began to open up into a large market square, lines of pikemen screened the path through the crowds, who bustled and bristled to gain sight of the Prince August and his retinue. Finally, the procession reached their destination.

August, sallow faced and unattractive August, dismounted his steed to slowly ascend the steps to a large platform. He cast his steely eyes across the assembled common folk, there not for love but curiosity, and he began to speak, his voice ringing loud and clear over the quiet crowd. “My friends, until but days ago, you were ruled by heathen monstrosities conjured from the deepest depths of Hell. Creatures who robbed you and yours of your freedom, your honour and your faith.

Through blood and strength of arms have the men and soldiery of Volarucio sought to right these wrongs done unto your people by the Greenskins, and with such strength of arms shall they continue to strive to defend you, Volarucio, and the Faith.” None could claim this Prince to be a great orator, but his voice was clear, clinical and factual, and some slight emotion leached through into his speech. “It is my intention to not only defend the Faith, but to resurrect it to the fullest extent seen in nearly seven hundred years. It is my intention, good folk, to rebuild the ancient and holy Kingdom of Auldhau, to once again be ruled from this holy city.” Across the crowd, gasps of surprise caught in the throats of the commoners. “Let it be known, my brothers and sisters in God, that this is not just a war for the survival of Volarucio, but for the survival of the Faith itself. The war with the Lithborn is a Holy War – a great Crusade for God – and it is the duty of every believer, including you citizens of Auld, to prosecute it.”

-2500 T3 Volarucian Pikemen are raised from the regions surrounding Toulagoza. The men are drilled and equipped, before marching forth to join the ever continuing war against the Lithborn. (29'500)

-An emissary is dispatched early in the year, making his way to the Tribal Herzaka, to parley with their leadership. (Mod)

-August de Hontiveros, Prince of Toulagoza, enters the ancient city of Auld, and declares the rebirth of the Kingdom of Auldhau. He declares the Greenskin War to be a war not only for the survival of Volarucio, but for the survival of the entirety of the Faith and, blessed by his clergy and the Volaruci Cardinal, declares it to be a great Crusade against the heathen Greenskins, who fight to wipe out the last vestiges of the Magic Faith in the region. Furthermore, he calls upon each and every true believer – from Ischyros, to Volarucio, to Elea and from Auld itself, to volunteer for service to protect the Faith. (Mod)

-A Magi, Ferdinand of Tanovaz, investigates the PoI beside the city of Auld. (Mod)

How do we get there? How did you get here, by the way?' [Will asked].
He heard Halt's deep sigh and knew he'd done it again.

'Do you ever,' the older Ranger said with great deliberation, 'manage to ask just one question at a time? Or does it always have to be multiple choice with you?'

Will looked at him in surprise. 'Do I do that?' he asked. 'Are you sure?'

Halt said nothing. He raised his hands in a 'See what I mean?' gesture...

'Halt,' [Selethen said], 'I could be wrong, but I think you were just guilty of the same fault. I'm sure I heard you ask two questions just then.'
'Thank you for pointing that out, Lord Selethen,' Halt said with icy formality.
