“We’ve discovered life both extinguished and hostile.” The speaker coughed before staring out into the crowd nervously, his face giving off most of the speech already. “Our forces found a planet west of our nation’s borders completely wiped out four years ago by an unknown force.” Quickly the man shuffles some papers, his entire body seems to be shaking.

“We’ve entered a code red across the nation, if in your travels you see, hear, or even think something is alien in nature on world or near orbit… report it immediately.”

Bigolow turned off the TV and rubbed his weary eyes, the men around him staring blankly around and chattering. “Get up boys, we’re leaving in an hour.” he spoke to his squad as most of them began to stretch and groan. Everyone began to pack their duffel bags and slide their rifles over their shoulders, Bigolow motioned for them to begin moving. “Hangar A-2, first floor.”

As the squad arrived into the massive hangar doors, 2 corvettes sat within both surrounded by hundreds of men working on, loading and briefing around them. “Quite the ships we’ll be garrisoned on for the tour.” Sergeant Alvarez said. Bigolow turned and gathered all of his sergeants from his company after they filed through the large doors that left the hangar bay.

“At 1200 Hours we’ll be leaving to garrison the frontier by Leon’s belt, our naval forces found the most likely perpetrator to the annihilation of the dead aliens we found last year. This is a temporary tour aboard the LNS Vigil, we will be her marine complement for the duration until we receive our base. Questions?”

Silence and approval, the only thing that sat on the minds of the men afterward was the idea we aren’t alone anymore and the worst probable scenario… they aren’t friendly.

Talarak Clan

2207

Q8GByH1.jpg

Few now remember how the Alduu’uuraneans came to the space, and fewer still their world of birth. In their mythology they are those who chased the great star serpent Na-Khadiim as it rested on a high mountain and snuck upon its back. Those hunters sought to best the mighty beast, to prove their courage and their honour, their tact and their ambition. But Na-Khadiim was beyond such concerns, beyond the bite of mortal spears, and the hunters were beyond its attention as it moved to continue its eternal voyage. Those upon its back were carried forth into the Sea of Stars, to voyage there for all eternity, like great Na-Khadiim itself.

Such is legend and myth, but the clans of the Alduu’uuraneans have been spacefarers for many generations. They are of no single nation, no great empire enthroned on a mighty homeworld, for none in living memory have been able to bring all to heel under one banner. The clans roam the galaxy, offering their skills as warriors to all who would pay in coin or resources. They are mercenaries, but hold to ancient traditions and codes of honour. Theirs is a society of strictures and hierarchies, where those who disobey or do not conform are shunned and cast out on pain of death. Their word for this state of outlawry is “Talarak”.

For generations, this word has been one purely of shame. Those declared Talarak have lived short, lonely lives, far from their birth-clans, on the fringes of society. It is a slow sentence of death, a life bereft of companionship, for their crimes – whatever they may be – are of the kind unforgivable to their kindred. So it was, until the time of Djakai of the Halgai Clan. Djakai’s crime and life before exile are obscured in rumour and time, but what is known is that he has always been a man of singular ambition and ruthless pragmatism. Tradition without reason is useless, a shackle to those with the will to take what should be theirs. Strength was his scripture, not the whims of elders and mystics. So it was that Halgai Djakai cast off his clan name, as his clan had cast him off. He wore what was meant to be dishonour as an unshakable armour of conviction. He, and his followers, formed the clan of the Talarak, a home for outcasts, and those willing to free themselves from shame and petty moralities.

In the decades since, the Talarak have grown strong in the shadows. From materials stolen, bought or mined, they have crafted a mighty vessel – a home from which their clan will range across the universe. They call this mothership “Na-Khadiim”, for like the great serpent, it will carry the ambitious and worthy hunters of the Talarak across the Sea of Stars, to glory and fortune.

A year has passed since all of Na-Khadiim’s systems have been brought online. Ships have been constructed, thinkers put to work on shielding their vessels from prying eyes. Such was the necessity of secrecy, that the mothership was constructed far from the space of civilised races, and sensors and comms have long been shut off for fear of attracting unwanted attention before the time was right. Now, with ships capable of putting up a decent fight – of supporting Na-Khadiim in any potential engagement – the piratical Alduu’uuraneans strike forth into the great unknown!

Turn 7 – 2207

Tz7lyIn.pngFlag_of_Yaita_Tochigi_-_vector.svg

Flag of the Quercus

As the sun sets, and rises, the Adaaptar of the Quercus continue their toil, the work is never done.

The Exploration ship sailed into it’s cradle at the space port, the hull pitted with dents. As it is looked over, the Metal Bender tuts, fingering the micro-asteroid holes with some displeasure.

”This cannot be avoided it seems with the Fusion Power engines we have used... But, with the new Warp engines! Alas anything is possible.”

The work on refitting the exploration ship commences, the workers in their space suits using their plasma torches beginning to patch holes and other dents in the hull. A new warp drive is brought up to the ship, beggining the installation as the captain reads over the plans.

”Ah, this shall make our lives much easier...”

Two more sister ships begin construction, the crew of the original is dispersed amongst the new boats. They await their ships to be given the green light once more.

As the researchers continue their work, celebrations were abound for the discovery of Warp travel. The plane of Olea rejoiced in a public holiday, their religious fervour abound for the Old One. Dedications and prayer was sent out into the void, all voiced to rejoice in the One.

The Adaptaar, after months of busy work, began their work anew for the sensor program. The sensors were upsized, with power modules increasing in output to match. Advancements in the software allowed for more efficient data processing, with improved latency between the sensor and the controlling computer.

Meanwhile, a team headed by Fulva begins to look at the illnesses and sickness that have come all apparent in this new inter-stellar age.

”Why should we fear the sicknesses of the past?” asked the Archon.

The small institute began it’s work, formulating more powerful vaccines and anti-fungals that have plagued the adaptaar for millennia.

The recently made Colony ship roars into action, taking off into the void. The new warp drive causing the displacement to be mere minutes, a fleet of smaller vessels are used to ferry the colonists off into their new home.

The dust cloud of Morus were to be mined, but those who have came are not all of good intention.

”With this frontier town, we can operate more openly.”

“The discontent has died down for now... But we didn’t cause that.”

”Well, no worries to be had then!”

”I am not too sure, I shall look over the slates. Be wary out there.”

”Nonsense, I am here to help.”

The High Archon descended from his perch in the capital in Bombax, his robes fluttering. Travelling to the Life Institute, he began a flurry of activity. Blessed individuals found greater fervour for their work, operating with their minds of their patients.

Grand Empire

Deep troubles had caught the Empress off-guard, and now her resources had to be split between three causes at once.

To the West, the Resurgent Er rebels had spread from Pollon Tri, and in a measure rarely seen the Grand Empire has deployed a full army unit to the area. The First Foundation Regulars march on the city, even as the slaughter of Imperial citizens is broadcast daily. It is said most militia forces in the city’s region have, however, joined with the rebel cause, and the ensuing battle expected to take thousands of lives.

Further west, the Edict Military Project continues, launching supplies back and forth over the war-torn Ers in an attempt to de-escalate the situation.

To the North, though, lays news that worries the Empress far more. The existence of non-Da’nor life had become obvious, and so measures must be taken to protect the homelands. In Ium, like Ers, are hundreds of bunkers and other sector defenses built, aimed towards the rest of the galaxy. The Second Foundation Regulars is raised in its capital, prepared to defend it with their lives.

It is inevitable that dangers come with colonization, but the initiatives of the Empire cannot be stopped. The colony ship is sent out, and with it, full military groups to immediately build a set of fortification in the area.

On Lev’arum, a fleet is built. The first of its kind, the frigate Time of Av is crewed by officer-tier Resistance Psionics, and within it kept a Rosetta stone of the Levite language. To accompany it, two corvettes are also built and staffed by similar crews.

H’wong Nation

And so a new world begins under a glorious beacon of democracy. Millions of new citizens inhabit this world, and get to work! The Nation is in urgent need of cash to bail out the various rampant projects. The Navy alone was accumulating the budget of several nations from historic past. However in this modern age scale was ramping up yearly. They could, and would, accommodate for the growing cost. A cosmopolitan world of commerce and finance grows, fueling the research districts.

In planned breakthrough, the army eagerly continues their testing of handheld laser weaponry. Promising their troops proper kit and weapons, the scientist continue to toil away. The basic model will be a standard issue laser rifle. The focusing lens and energy clips will be simple, alongside the weapon itself. However the deadly bolts of light will introduce an entirely new era of war and possibility.

*Seeking armament of their own, the navy begins their own arms plan. Instead of focusing from complete scratch, cost are reduced. With so many other demands, the navy for now will focus on reworking their Kinetic based weapons. Scientist will work on more proper primary battle canons, capable of shooting bigger shells at further ranges. Testing will also focus on using kinetics on deflector shields, trying to build the guns around countering shields.

The Republic of Tassarea

fanny-poulain-concept-sci-fi-city.jpg?14

What determined life ? What determined wheter a species gains intelligence and senitence ? What determines the origin of a species. These are questions that would have been easy to answer just two years ago. Before First Contact happened. One would have said that the Tassareans were not created, they had evolved on the planet, they originated from primates. Yet now, that idea lay in jeopordy. At least, it was under heavy scrutiny.

What was the chance, that two species would evolve in almost exactly the same way. Being biologically nearly identical to the Tassareans, down to their very genome. It did not make sense, at least with the evolutionary theory. Thus, many Tassareans had turned to something that, whilst not entirely extinct, had faded into the background. Almost entirely dissapearing over the years.

Religion

For what other explenation could there be then that all life was created in the image of a god ? Well several. Including that evolution might have a certain hard-wired road, co-incidence etc. There were even several conspiracy theories that all species had been created by an evolved species and then scattered through the galaxy. The last one just being a conspiracy of course. But the easiest answer to the question was found in the spiritual realm rather than in the spiritual realm.

Thus, religion was starting to make a comeback in Tassarean culture. Becoming more prevelant as people sought it out in order to explain the question they asked themselves. One of these religions was the religion of the Stellar gods. An ancient religion based around the associations of the gods with the stars. It said that the gods were once mortals like anyone else, but that they had evolved beyond their original boundries and became gods.

It had never been a major religion in the past, yet now it was rapidly gaining in popularity. And as such, in one of the community halls Priestess Alisa Xanandros looked out over the crowd that had gathered. She allowed herself a small smile. Before the first contact she had already been interested in the religion of the Stellar gods. Or Stellars in short. Specifically relating to her education as an Astromonist and how they were on of the early establishers of that branch. Yet when First Contact happened it all just clicked. This was the explenation of life. Of everything, it all just fit, the legends, folklore, it all just made sense.

And as such she spoke to the assembled people before her.

My fellow Tassreans, thank you for coming together on this day.

As she spoke, several people listened intently, mostly curious on what she would say.

It is hard to believe. That it has been so long ago since First Contact, almost two years already. How has time flown by.” Alisa said, herself brimming with enthusiasm and dedication. “Almost two years since our entire reality has been turned around. All our previous preconceptions have been shattered. And now we have been tasked with find a new explenation.

Alisa then let out a short laugh. “I have found a new explentation, though even I myself am not sure if I am correct.” She then looked around the room. “But I have found my answer in the Stellar gods.” She then spoke in a bit of a lecturing tone.

Nearly two millenia ago the first sign of the religion appeared. The first legends spoke specifically about the mother. They said that she,  a being of infinite kindness, saw the galaxy and saw it to be empty. Thus she tasked herself with filling it with life. Spreading life accros many planets in her own image. When her task was done, after she created new races, she created a dozen other beings. Who would be the other gods. They were tasked with many different tasks, yet it is the mother that is venerated above all.

And as such the history and lore of the religion was explained further over some time. Until a certain point came.

As such I ask you all, is this not the explenation of life ? What else could have created life except the Stellar or other gods.

Most of the people were quietly nodding among themselves, tentatively agreeing to what she was said. Especially as all the things that she said seemed to fit, and after checking online sources seemed to be accurate of past lore as well. It all just fit so well.

No one answered for a moment, and Alisa looked happy with herself but then an old and wizened voice cut through the silence. “Many things young miss.” Alisa turned to where the sound came from, as a wrinkled man stood up from a chair. “Why is it necceserily gods that created life, though more importantly what truly makes a god ?

He then continued on speaking, slowly walking forward to where she was standing. Speaking slowly and quietely, but being heard all the same. “What would we look like to Tassareans two Millenia ago. What would they see if they looked at us. At our technology

There was silence for a moment, as Ford was silent and everyone was hanging onto his words and also thinking. “They would think it was magic, would they then not think that we are gods ?”

They probaply would. So if our predecessors would think us to be gods, why would it not be the same for us. What are gods except being who have advanced so far that we are not able to understand them. As our ancestors would not have understood us.

Then without realizing it, the old man stood in front of Alisa and he whispered. “And I ask you then. “

“ Can gods truly exist ?

Actions

I Seeing that the Tassareans are not the only life that is in the galaxy the general populace is worried about a theoratical attack from hostile races. If they do exist. As such to increase the protection of the nation the first dedicated Tassarean warship is built. A destroyer-class ship to be specific. [6M, building a destroyer]

The Exploration ship is to go with an ambassador to the capital of the Protorian assembly. In order to facilitate a good diplomatic contact between both nations. Furthermore, they are to begin on discussing the potential of a trade route between the two civilizations. [MOD]

With a new, and ideal, planet coming into possesion of the Republic it is rapidly developed into becoming a commercial hub. Whilst also being built to serve as a trade depot with the Protorians. On top of that, the planet also serves as a minor tourist hub. Seeing as it still has many natural sights that have long been lost to Tassarea.(100k C for 10 CI)

In order to improve the technological level of the Tassarean civilization more research is put into increasing the output of Researchers and research facilities. So as to create a greater understanding of the Universe. [12R on T1 Research facilities(12 already spent)]

The Foundry

The C.C.C. is finally completed. For now, it is built deep underground, though a large access tunnel leads up to the surface, through which the C.C.C. can be transported. It is covered in all the security the Foundry can afford it, and protected by layers upon layers of doors. (12.000C) (Finished.)

More heavy industry! The Foundry will not be deterred! (15.000C into 1 HI) (12 total, 1 inactive)

7.500 suplus C.

Work goes into improving basic industrial facilities, for they shall no doubt be needed soon. (11/25 R into BI)

Turn 8

2208

Map update, see Discord Chat.

For some it is peace, for others it is war. Chapters are being closed, to make space for new ones, where the races of this galaxy have found first friends and foes, to engage in exchange of words or in exchange of blows.

---

Democratic Laconian Systems

As an unremarkable tropical jungle planet gets claimed by the DLS, they begin to learn and understand the language of their new neighbours. They are the Tintra, of the Republic of Tintra. Their species, humanoid, a bit shorter, but strongly built with the distinct lack of color (grey skin, hair, eyes, and so on) has been in a devastating war against a race that was called Xryxik. This eight-limbed bug species was hostile from the very start, immediately engaging the Tintra’s ships where they could find them. Devolving into a war with no possibility of negotiating a peace, the Xryxik overstepped the boundaries of conventional warfare when they carpet nuked one of the Republican worlds, killing 230 million Tintra in the process. In a monstrous effort, the Republic mobilized all resources and power, built an ocean of warships to overwhelm the Xryxik first in space, and to obliterate their homeworld with their own nuclear arsenal. This gruesome war lasted for four years, and the DLS just made contact six months after its end.

Talarak Clan

They find a world that is apparently inhabitated by an early spacefaring species. There are numerous satellites in orbit around the celestial bodies, two small colonies on the moons of the homeworld this species holds. They have not detected the arrival of the Talarak Clan fleet yet on the very fringes of the solar system.

And the continue to study the wavelength breaking method to begin cloaking their vessel. So far they are still at the math, but they know quite well where they want to go.

The Remnant

Wormhole Project. Calculation 1078772. Results remain inconclusive. Continue. Calculation 1078773. Result designates as variable z88_3.1. Continue...

Solar wind collection analysis. Energy gain possible. Investigation to continue. Leviathan species appears to propel itself with energy conversion. Must investigate further.

Quercus Quorum

Dissolving resolution on a subatomic level allow for FTL pings and scans on shorter ranges. The sensors developed are capable of measuring an object’s speed, size and primary composition on a distance of several light years. This should allow for more efficient and careful search of moving objects in approach or similar, although finding objects of small size is difficult on such a distance.

Healthcare has always been a topic for the Adaptaar. Living a long and fulfilled and mostly spiritual life is beneficial to all and the society. Whilst they have decoded the grand scheme of the Adaptaar genetic code, much is still to be learned and discovered, as they are wondrous creations of the Old One, whose wisdom has no bounds.

The healers travel around the worlds of the Quercus Quorum, bringing aid to those in need. Wounded, ill, poor, there are still those that can not help themselves. (0.25% pop growth for the next three years, psionic powers in cooldown)

Republic of Korinth

Faster and faster they go, but not fast enough. At least going by the scientists who continue to push the limits of the fusion engines. Further and further, improvements here and there. Many more to be found, many more to be added and introduced to what may become a new generation of Fusion Engine.

The Republic at the same time, comfortably colonizes a lush world which appears to be teeming with flowers that seem to have a very aphrodisiac effect.

Grand Empire

Three weeks after the last ring of bunker fortifications on Ium go up, a hostile fleet is on approach. They attack and demobilize a few unfortunate civilian vessels, boarding them before they approach the planet itself. The militia and troops on the ground there are rallied prepared to defend against this unknown foe! For the Empress!

H’wong Nation

Neither projects reaches any point of conclusion. The laser weaponry is still being developed to be completely reliable and somewhat efficient, and the upgrades to the kinetic weaponry show little results by the end of the year.

The Republic of Tassarea

They can rejoice, as by the end of the year, the Protorian Council and the Republic of Tassarea formally sign a Non-Aggression-Pact, a trade agreement, a cultural exchange agreement and a migration treaty. The openess of both races is very compatible, so friendships between the two species should be very easy to establish, despite possible early linguistic barriers. (Discord)

The trade and tourist world has yet to show its results, but the Protorians show interest in its potential and begin to establish a world as such themselves for the people of Tassarea to come visit.

UNION OF SOVIET SOCIALIST PLANETARY REPUBLICS

Neither of the exploration ships find any habitable worlds, struggling with the sheer distance of things right now.

U N I O N   T H U L È E N E

The Union discovers a world inhabitated by a primitive species that is about in the early bronze age. Dangerous territory to approach into, lest they might be seen as gods. This species appears to be some kind of oversized cockroach, strong physiology, hard carapace, capable of rolling for quick and defensive movement. Hm, I wonder what they call themselves.

The Foundry

Massive energy buildup detected in facility X553-9-A-A-2. Analyzing. Distributing excess energy to maintain network integrity. No danger detected, source unknown. (+5,000 C)

CORRUPTOR DOMINION

No, says the Itoron and continues to resist.

Redon Empire

At long last, after many years of toiling away and trying to get together the high quality resources needed to finish the ship, it rises up, ready to claim another world for the Imperium. Red dar Imperiad!

Union of Mann

They find a lot of alien technology, hardware and wiring, power banks, magnetic generators, and so forth. The list of parts is highly complex and very long. But once the scientists can make head and tails out of them, they might be able to reproduce the effects of this definitive space bending engine, this warp thing, and start designing their own!

Being completely new lifeforms to mankind, analyzing their preserved frozen bodies is like discovering a new continent at once. So much to learn so much to see, so many mysteries behind the essence of life and creation, yet to be answered.
