THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE HALLOWED FLAME

♩ ♪ ♫ ♬ ♭

=THE ORDER’S HISTORY=

The Hallowed Flame has its origins in the Commonwealth of Kaedrin of the Savoyard Kingdom of Oren and early Johannian Empire; founded in the year 1520 by the Count of Roseden, Arstan Bedell, at the behest of Magnate Cantonus Chivay, a zealous Owynist warrior caste was established as the vanguard of the Commonwealth.  Embracing the fiery sun of their lord Owyn and his dogma as the basis of a new creed, the Order was established as a militant force dedicated to the pursuit of justice, and those ideals laid out before them. The first founding of the Order was comprised of the wilted remnants of the Flaming Rose, and other true-hearted Kaedreni men who served with zeal at the behest of the Chivay Lord of the Commonwealth.

However, as the early months of the Order panned out, dissent and mutiny arose amongst the ranks in the form of a certain Hadrian Chivay. Following the assassination of Cantonus Chivay, the title of Grandmaster fell upon his shoulders, and the Order subsequently stagnated following the excommunication of its founder at the hands of the Canonist Church as the result of an incident involving the murder of a Carrion claimant to the Imperial Throne. Its men scattered to the wind, and the Order reduced to a husk, it was dissolved in 1533.

Recently, however, the Order has been given new life in order to serve as the militant hand of the one true Canonist Church in an era of renewed strife, standing in opposition to the schismatic Pontiff of the pretender Marnas in support of High Pontiff Siegmund I. In contrast to its earlier iteration, the newly established Order touts the philosophy and virtue of the Imperial Cult, espousing a mixture of traditional Owynist belief and reverence for the cleansing fire of the Prophet alongside the exaltation of the Dragonblooded and the divine right of the House of Horen through Pertinax the Dragonknight, serving to that end in both the protection of their church, as well as their divinely-anointed Emperor, Godfrey III. Injustice across the Empire is met with fire and steel, and those who would dare threaten the virtuous are put to the stake.

Yet, their righteous crusade for the purging of all that is wicked and unjust does not end with the Marnantines rebels that threaten the unity of mankind. Maleficarum do not find solace in the wake of their march, nor do cultists of vile practices and dark creeds. Many a blasphemer has been put to the stake - burned aloft for all to spectate - at the hands of the most just. In this day and age, faith wanes and rising to supplement it is the zeal and piety of the Dragon’s adherents. A new age dawns, and it dawns in fire.

=TENETS OF THE ORDER=

The Order of the Hallowed Flame prides itself in discipline, and in this discipline comes a strict dogma in which each man is required to adhere to.

I. REMAIN ETERNALLY FAITHFUL TO HOREN’S COVENANT AND THE HOLY FIRE

It is they, Blessed Horens, that guides the realms of man, and their Holy Fire that assures our salvation when we pass on to the otherworld. Never lose faith in the Dragonsblood and Its’ Flame, for to do so would spell doom. Without faith, we cannot ever hope to succeed, and we shall fail as those who came before us have. Faith is our weapon, so wield it true.

II. TOLERATE NOT THE IDOLATOR NOR PAGAN, FOR HE IS UNCLEAN

Each man is required to show no sympathies towards those of nonhuman faith, unrenounced of vile origin. And why would they? Owyn led man against the Harrenites, and so have generations of Horen seen to the curtailing of fell realms since; it is foolish to believe one could redeem themselves.

III. BRING HIS LIGHT TO THE DARK FOR THERE ARE SOULS TO BE SAVED

If the basis of our order is built upon the reverence of Horen and the Hallowed Flame, then we must hasten to spread his teachings across the realm. And to those who openly shun his ways, they are no better than the mongrels who lay with elves and pray before trees. Death to him, in the most righteous of fire.

IV. RESPECT YOUR BROTHERS, WHO LIVE AND DIE BESIDE YOU

At the core of any order is tried-and-true camaraderie. Fight not amongst yourselves, but find it within to make brotherly ties with your fellow soldier. For mutual respect and friendship make a man fight harder on the field to battle, in defense of their comrade.

V. NEVER FALTER IN THE FACE OF THE ENEMY

To parade fear in the ranks, and to quiver before a foe is the greatest dishonor known. Have faith, for the Fire safeguards us against sword and lance. Falter not, and remain as a redoubt before your foemen and you will have no trouble in dispatching them.

=RELIGIOUS DOGMA=

NO EVIL CAN SURVIVE THE HOLY FIRE; THE HOLY FIRE ENLIGHTENS, IT BURNS AND IT CLEANSES. BEHOLD THE FLAME OF GRACE AND MERCY MADE MANIFOLD

Ever-evident, both through namesake and nature, is the Order’s veneration of the Hallowed Flame; the primordial light bestowed upon Mankind through their covenant with GOD and his earthly agents. All that stems from that light and covenant is revered as being a thing of great divinity; the dragonsblood of the Horen, bound with primordial fire and the right of Emperors, the words of Exalted Owyn, and the ever-cast shadows of Humanity’s most watchful guardians. They offer their prayer to it all through fire and flame: prayer, sacrifice, and carrying out Exalted Owyn’s work in purifying all of GOD’s creation.

It is those duties that compelled GOD’s most leal followers to join together and combat the decaying moral front that beset the edges of society; faith in the purifying light of creation and the mandate of GOD and Exalted Owyn alike. It breeds the necessity of deed over word, and of stringent measure before saccharine words and preaching; for, as the ancient and self-evident words go, soft time breeds weak men; hard times breed great men. Intolerance of false idolatry and pagan veneration is inherently necessary to maintain the goodwill of GOD and his Prophets, be they Dragonblooded Horen or the immaculate Owyn.

The enemies of duty and faith are manifold; from the perfidious and scheming Dwarven Merchants, revering bones and dust, to the idolatry of the Elven Druidics who revere aspects of the Lord GOD’s creation rather than Him and all that represents the eternal light he bestowed upon the mortal planes. Worse, yet, is the man who turns on his blood and fails to supplicate themselves before their Rightly Divine liege-lord Horen; for it was them GOD laid the Crown of Humanity on the brow of, and none other.

Much like the treasured sons and brothers of Owyn, the holiest rite one can enact in the eyes of the Brotherhood is to offer tribute to the Lord in Heaven; there is nothing that appeases our vengeful GOD more than the death of the foeman and give unto the fields of man his ashes as nutrient. It is known to the Brotherhood that the last noises that escape the enflamed witch & pagan mouths are nothing short of the tongue of God.

=HIERARCHY OF THE ORDER=

-SENIOR COMMAND-

GRANDMASTER

Incumbent: Friar Tuck [Key_of_Solomon]

The Grandmaster holds supreme command over the entirety of the Order, whose orders are to be followed without question and doubt. This office is to be held until death, and provided that the Grandmaster had not designated an heir, the Chapter Masters shall convene and appoint another through discussion and vote.

-HIGH COMMAND-

CHAPTER MASTER

Incumbent: Francois de Vignoble | Sigismund Bedell

The Chapter Masters are the appointed commanders of the Order beneath the supervision of the Grandmaster, always chosen from among the anointed knights of the faith. Holding authority over all other knights as well as enlisted members of the Order, they oversee pay, discipline and equipment across the board. Entrusted with leading men during times of war, drilling the soldiery and ensuring a standard of quality is maintained within the Order, they sit as advisors to the Grandmaster and offer their counsel in matters of faith, tactics and war.

HOLY KNIGHT

Anointed Knights of the Canonist Church, Holy Sers of the Order of the Hallowed Flame make up the core veterency of the Order, expected to be competent in both war and in faith. It is considered a high honor within the Order, and commands a certain level of respect in itself. They hold the authority to call upon a small detachment of Ordermen to serve at their behest, and are expected to take charge in the absence of ranking superiors.

-ENLISTED ORDER MEMBERS-

MAN-AT-ARMS

The Man-At-Arms is the rank-and-file soldier of the Order. Equipped with castle-forged steel and a higher salary than that of their footmen counterparts, they have been enlisted into the ranks for a significant amount of time, and are often promoted on the basis of merit or loyal service.

FOOTMAN

The Footman is the entry-level enlisted soldier. Given a bunk, an annual salary and armed with mail and steel, these men make up the backbone of the order and are by far the most numerous amongst its ranks. Discipline is expected, and those who step out of line are punished severely.

Richard de Reden, commander of Owyn’s Creed, is most gracious that the anti-Pontiff approves of a fellow scapegoat “Owynist” order. Now he could commit all the war-crimes he desired with plausible deniability!

One, reverent, god-fearing man recited the prayers, then set out to fulfill the holy duties bestowed upon him. For maybe then would the miscreant be cleansed of sin, and amend that which he had erred against God. Maybe then would he appease, and make proud the lone creator.

“I guess this explains the Azdrazi trying to kill Lochlan and burning down a church in the process, hardly virtuous.” said Zachery.
