Tech Update #1 - Bountiful Botany

Tech Update #1

It’s been quite a while since the last tech update. Monthly updates weren’t really working for us so I’ve decided to just release an update every time there’s something of significance to report. Bugs fixed in that time period will be rolled up at the end of the update. This update’s start is Botany, Wrynn’s new plugin for harvesting plants.


The Botany Plugin

It has finally arrived! After much anticipation all of the cogs have come together and we’ve been able to release the botany plugin. You’ll now be able to see various different plants all over the world of Arcas. I’ll give you a quick rundown of how the plugin actually works so that you can all use it!


Alchemists Shears

Harvesting alchemic botanicals can be rather tricky and without a steady hand the crop yield could be ruined in an instant! To get around you can now create the ‘Alchemists Shears whenever wanting to harvest a plant that you see around in the world! The recipe is listed as below:



(Please don’t ask me why that’s the recipe, it just is)


The Alchemist shears have around 20 uses before breaking, so you may find yourself needing to create quite a few pairs if you’re keen on harvesting a lot of plants.


Plant Nodes

Currently there are 636 nodes set up all around the world of Arcas that automatically refresh once harvested after a set period of time



You’ll be able to find these nodes all over the world of Arcas and each node has been specifically placed depending on what conditions that plant would thrive in; meaning you will find plants that like the warmth in areas such as savannas and deserts, and plants that like moisture in swamps and river-ways etc.


Some plants are much more rarer than other plants however, meaning their are much fewer nodes and much higher respawn times - hopefully this will create some ‘rarer plants that could be sold for more at market and be more valuable.


If you see any nodes that aren’t working or appear to be broken in some sort of way, I would appreciate it if you could make a /treq and simply point out that the node is broken, I’ll be able to come and fix it then!

Plant Harvesting

In order to harvest a plant you’ll need to have your alchemist shears in your hand and simply right click the block that the plant is on, a shearing sound will be made and a plant will pop off of the ground for you!


All of the plants that have been harvested from the plugin also feature special colored text at the bottom of their description saying, “ST APPROVED” - this is to make it known which plants are from the plugin and which ones are simply renamed VIP items. Since this plugin aims to tie into some sort of alchemy plugin in the future, it’s important that you only keep the legitimate items from this plugin; as they will be the only plants that will work.

Whenever you harvest a plant you’ll probably notice that in the description of the plant is a list of ‘Symbols’ - currently these don’t mean much however they are intended to tie into some sort of alchemy system in the future!


The Backend of the Plugin

A big issue with these types of plugins, plugins that tie in heavily with lore that is; is the fact that the lore is constantly changing. To counter that, I made everything about the plugin editable in-game, meaning if a large change is going around with the plants a coder such as myself isn’t needed to implement it into the plugin; everything can be done in-game with menus that are accessible to the staff team. Although this takes much longer to code, it allows for the plugin to have a much longer shelf-life and hopefully allows it to stay with us for a much longer period of time.



This is my first ever big live plugin that I’m releasing to the server, and I’m pretty proud of it; it’s taught me a lot of things and I’m constantly willing to adapt it to the server’s changing needs and wants. So I ask you if you notice that a certain plant is too rare or perhaps too common just comment on this thread and I’ll look at changing the distribution of the nodes. Heck, even if you don’t like the plugin at all please tell me - I don’t want to force you to use a plugin that you don’t think is very fun or is too grindy.


That being said I’d really like to thank the people that have helped me along the journey of this plugin’s creation, without them this wouldn’t have been possible.


The Tech Team

  • @Sporadic- The entirety of the plugin basically runs off of an API that sporadic created, so without him this plugin truly would never have been as good and would have taken much longer to develop. I’d also like to thank him for the constant help he provided in the coder chat; it was extremely helpful.

  • @Tofuus - Tofuus kept me right most of the plugin’s creation and without him I would’ve been pretty lost as to what I was doing most of the time

  • @Omar Grimmer’Lak - Tex helped me a lot with the testing of the plugin, a lot of bugs were spotted and fixed because of this man, so a big thanks to him.

  • @501warhead - 501 took the time to sit down and review the plugin with me and pointed out areas that could perhaps be optimized or simply coded more efficiently. It’s because of him that the plugin is in the state it’s in now.


The Community Team

I’d like to shout out a big thanks to the community team for the plentiful amount of art that was created for the plugin’s launch. A big thanks especially to @Rwk0 for drawing up beautiful representations of the plants.


The Story Team

Without the story team’s help the plugin wouldn’t have had any plants at all! A big thanks to them for spending time writing up the plants and helping place down the nodes of the plants.


KOPlus Automatic Head Dispensation

Some of you might have noticed a new addition when you kill a player. It’s a plugin addition from our other coder @Omar Grimmer'Lak. You no longer need to modreq for heads. Instead, you now have the ability to directly request the head from the player after you kill them.





After you’ve run the command you’ll have a lovely head to hang on your wall!




Glowing Items for VIPs

Botany wasn’t the only thing @Wrynn worked on these past few months. He also added a way for you to give a fancy glow to your items. Simply do /edit glow and it will consume one edit token to make your new sword extra special. This is an Ender+ perk.




As usual signed items can’t be edited so make sure to apply the glow enchant before you sign your item!


Forum Map Update

We’ve heard your pleas for a more up to date map on the forums! We kicked our hamsters into gear and fixed our scripts. The map should be much more consistently updated now.

Shop of Wonder Update

* Tokeballs have been moved to the SoW

+ Shulker boxes are now being sold at the SoW for 15k


General Bug Fixes

Here’s a quick fire of some bugs and issues we’ve fixed since the last update.


  • Fixed trident duping bug

  • Fixed issue with /roll that caused huge TPS drop

  • Fixed /cex aliases not working correctly

  • Updated /vip command to show relevant perks

  • Fixed staying in the same location whilst sitting and changing personas

  • Fixed /card being case sensitive for tab completion

  • Allow players to enter italicized and bold text at the same time in chat

  • Fixed 0 minutes on /seen showing “Unknown”

  • Fixed players not getting a map during the 2FA setup process
